WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD MY SPEEDOMETER WAS SHOWING 120MPH AND I WAS ONLY RUNNING 75MPH. WHEN I STOP AND SHUT OFF MY VEHICAL THE SPEEDOMETER READS 45MPH INSTEAD OF 0MPH. IF YOU SWITCH THE IGNISTION OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES IT WILL EVENTUALLY GO BACK TO 0MPH. I WAS DOING SOME RESEARCH ON IT AND FOUND THIS WEB SITE WWW.TOPIX.NET. I FOUND OUT PRETTY QUICK THIS IS NOTHING NEW. THERE WERE SO MANY LISTINGS ON THERE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THAT IT WAS UNREALISTIC. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED CHRYSLER PRODUCTS UNITLL I PURCHASED MY GMC. I HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT BRAGG ABOUT HOWW I DON'T NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK BUT NOW SEEING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING I KINDA FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE EXSPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELING THE INTERSTATES. THIS COULD CAUSE SOME PRETY SERIOUS WRECKS WHEN YOUR SHOWING YOUR RUNNING 100MPH AND ONLY DOING 60MPH. THATS ASKING FOR A MAJOR REAR END COLLISION. IF ANY ONE IS LISTENING AND IS CONSERNED ABOUT THE CONSUMERS SAFETY THEN SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE PRETTY QUICK. I HAVE READ WHERE CONSUMERS HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING DONE PRETTY QUICK BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR EVEN KILLED. SO IF ANY ONE CARES DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE. THERE ARE NO WARNING SIGNS OR INDICATOR LIGHTS WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CONTACT IS TRAVELING 3-5 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME HE ATTEMPTS TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AND MENTIONED THE BRAKE PROBLEM , AND WAS TOLD THE SOLUTION WAS TO PULL THE FUSE ON THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO DISENGAGE THE ABS. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLES SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO STICK AND DID NOT SHOW THE ACCURATE SPEED TRAVELED. THE OTHER GAUGES WORKED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TO A SERVICE DEALER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
SPEEDOMETER WORKING ERRATICALLY OR NOT WORKING AT ALL. VERY DANGEROUS AS WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED. *NM
TRUCK WAS PARKED OUTSIDE AT WORK DURING THE DAY. WHEN I ENTERED THE TRUCK AND CLOSED THE DRIVER DOOR TO LEAVE, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHEN THE DOOR CLOSED. I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY OBJECTS HITTING THE WINDOW PRIOR TO THIS, OR DEFECTS, ETC. CONTACTED LOCAL GMC DEALER WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS AND THEREFORE DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. IT IS BEING REPAIRED AT A GLASS SHOP AT MY EXPENSE WITH A NEW WINDOW. *NM
WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES THEY RELEASE THEMSELVES JUST AS IF I LET OFF THE PEDAL AND I HAVE TO PRESS HARDER TO STOP. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT WHEN IT DOES IT'S SCARY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE OCT. OF 2006 AND STILL DOING SO. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS ? *JB
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY, SOMETIMES SHOWS OVER 100 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. *NM
THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING IN MY 2003 GMC SIERRA, IT JUST STOPPED ONE DAY GOING DOWN THE ROAD, HASN'T BEEN FIXED I THINK GM SHOULD SOMETHING ABOUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ON THAT HAS THE PROBLEM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE EXTERIOR PASSENGER SIDE REAR MIRROR WAS ROUNDED AND DID NOT HAVE A STATEMENT INDICATING OBJECTS IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR MAY APPEAR CLOSER THAN THEY ARE. DUE TO THE ROUNDED DESIGN, IT CREATED A BLIND SPOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I PURCHASED A 2003 DODGE RAM QUAD CAB TRUCK FROM PARSONS FORD IN MARTINSBURG WV. IT WAS SOLD TO ME IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE SHOT. THE TIRES ARE CUPPED. THE VEHICLE BOUNCES WHEN EXCEEDING 45 MPH. THE INSPECTION STICKER HAD BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED WHICH INVALIDATES IT THEREFORE IT WAS SOLD TO ME WITHOUT A VALID INSPECTION. I HAVE TRIED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN DAYS OF PURCHASING IT. PARSONS FORD REFUSES TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK STATING THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. *NM
OUTSIDE PASSENGER SIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR DEFROST DOES NOT WORK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN,THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT END WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN NECK AND HEAD FRACTURES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE INJURIES ULTIMATELY LED TO THE CONTACT'S DEATH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. 2003 GMC SIERRA PICKUP W/49000 MILES. SPEEDOMETER HAS STARTED ERRATIC READINGS WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZZARD WHEN DRIVING. *NM
SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2003 GMC SIERRA HAS GONE ERRATIC. ZERO TO 120 MPH FLUCTUATIONS, STICKS. *JB
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THE ENGINE SEEMS TO BOG DOWN LIKE I AM PULLING SOMETHING. TOOK IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT AND THE REPAIRMAN HAD TO REPLACE A PART SAYING THAT IT WAS AUTOMATICALLY KICKING IN AND OUT. HE FIXED IT AND IT WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. YOU CAN EVEN HEAR IT IN THE ENGINE, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT DOWN SHIFTS TO PULL SOMETHING. *NM

VEHICLE BRAKE ANTI-LOCK ENGAGES AT LOW SPEED. 1 OCCURRENCE OF LOSS OF BRAKES WHILE SLOWING ON STEEP HILL. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM EVERY TIME I STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, STOP SIGN OR PARKING. MY MODEL YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN EARLIER MODEL YEARS. *JB
SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2003 GMC SIERRA. IT IS STUCK ON 65 MPH. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON ANY ROAD CONDITIONS, WHENEVER THE VEHICLE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING GEAR BOX. THE NOISE GOT LOUDER WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN AT 3 MPH, THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT LEFT DOOR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE OTHER VEHICLE RAN THE STOP SIGN. BOTH THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING THE SEAT BELT, BUT FRACTURED A BONE IN THE NECK AND INCURRED BRUISING TO THE BODY. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. UPDATED 10/31/2006 - *NM
STEERING COLUMN RATTLE. HAVE HAD SERVICE ON AT LEAST 6 OCCASIONS, ALL PROVING UNSUCCESSFUL. FIXES HAVE BEEN EITHER LUBE INJECTION, OR REPLACEMENT OF INTERMEDIARY SHAFT. NO FIX HAS LASTED LONGER THAN 5,000 MILES. *JB
MY SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 GMC SPEEDOMETER HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY FOR OVER A YEAR. I NOW HAVE 75,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND GMC SAYS IT WILL NOT COVER THE EXPENSE OF REPAIRING IT. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS OCCURRING ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND GENERAL MOTORS IS SCREWING ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS TO CUSTOMER SERVICE I WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPANY EXTENDED ITS WARRANTY TO SEVEN YEARS OR 70000 MILES IN SEPT. AND ALL GM OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED. I THEN ASKED THEM WHEN THEY MAILED MY NOTIFICATION BECAUSE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM NOTIFYING ME OF THE EXTENDED COVERAGE AS OF NOV. 8 2007. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME WHEN THEY MAILED A NOTIFICATION TO ME. MY POINT IS THAT IF THE COMPANY HAD NOTIFIED ME IN SEPT. I WOULD NOT BE OVER THE 70000 LIMIT AND WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I FIND IT EXTREMELY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A CORPORATION AS LARGE OS GM DOES NOT KEEP RECORDS OF WHEN THEY NOTIFY CUSTOMERS ABOUT POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS COMPONENTS ON THEIR VEHICLES. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH GM IS TRYING TO GET BY WITH OUT HAVING TO PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKES. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY LAWSUITS OVER THIS MATTER AND I FULLY INTEND TO PURSUE MY LEGAL RIGHTS AS WELL. *TR
STARTED FEELING LESS BRAKING POWER AND SQUEALING AT 25000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER TO CHECK IT , FOUND REAR BRAKES TO BE 100% WORE OUT. REAR ROTORS ARE FLAKING APART. *JB
SPEEDOMETER ON 2003 GMC SIE FAILED CONSTANTLY AND WHEN IT WORKS, IT WORKS VERY ERRATICALLY, TESTED ACTUAL SPEED ON POLICE RADAR AND SPEED WAS NEVER CONSISTENT AND SOMETIMES OUT BY 15KM/H. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. *JB
SPEEDOMETER ACTS ALL ERRATIC, SOMETIMES WILL SHOW I AM GOING 30 MPH MORE THEN I REALLY AM, MAY SOMETIMES SHOW THE NEEDLE BEING BURIED AND NOT GOING OVER 20 MPH ACTUALLY, SOMETIMES DOESN'T REGISTER AT ALL, NEEDLE IS JUMPY, AND AT OTHER TIMES IT WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. THIS ALL STARTED HAPPENING ONCE MY VEHICLE HIT 51K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT MAY BE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND COULD COST UPWARDS OF $1300 TO REPLACE.
SPEEDOMETER STARTED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY, REGISTERING 80 MPH AT COMPLETE STOP. WOULD GRADUALLY RESET TO 0 MPH AT A STOP THEN STARTED REGISTERING 120 MPH AT COMPLETE STOP AND WILL NOT MOVE OFF THAT SPEED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD, AND A SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER REMOVED THE SHAFT SECTOR, REGREASED IT, AND REINSTALLED IT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT HEARD A RUBBING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE COLUMN WITH THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. ONE YEAR LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A NEW DESIGN FOR THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE NEW PART INSTALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND I SMELLED A WEIRD SMELL. I THOUGHT MY AIR CONDITIONING MAY BE MESSING UP SO I TURNED OFF MY AIR AND OPENED MY WINDOW. I STILL SMELLED THE WEIRD SMELL WITH THE WINDOW DOWN SO I ASSUMED IT WAS AN ODOR FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OR JUST GENERALLY OUTSIDE. I NOTICED IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS FLAGGING ME DOWN. I PULLED OVER AND SHE TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS SMOKING AND SHE THOUGHT SHE SAW A FLAME OUT THE BACK. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD BETTER AND GOT OUT TO LOOK. I LOOKED IN THE AREA BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE BED AND I SAW FLAMES. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE FLAMES GOT BIGGER AND FLARED UP OVER THE BED OF THE TRUCK. A PASSING MOTORIST STOPPED AND HAD A COOLER OF WATER AND POURED IT ON THE AREA AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. I HAD CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE TRUCK ARRIVED AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT. THE POLICE DID NOT ACCOMPANY THE FIRE TRUCK. AN INSURANCE ADJUSTOR HAS NOT BEEN TO THE MECHANIC TO LOOK AT THE TRUCK YET SO I DO NOT KNOW THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. *NM
THE VEHICLE HAS HAD FAILURE OF THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEATING. RESULTED IN FIRED IN THE DASH BOARD WIRING TWICE. HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONER EIGHT TIMES. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT LOOSE. THE PROBLEM WAS MORE OBVIOUS WHILE TURNING OR DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. THIS ALSO CAUSED THE FRONT END TO MAKE A CLUNKING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ONCE AND LUBED THE COMPONENT THREE TIMES. THE PROBLEM RETURNS AFTER 10,000 MILES.
OVER ONE YEAR AGO I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER MAKING NOISE AND GIVING ERRATIC READINGS. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO IT WENT OUT COMPLETELY WITH THE NEEDLE PAST THE 120 MPH MARK. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. GMC HAS BEEN NOTIFIED WITH NO RESULTS.*AK
2003 SIERRA STEERING MECHANISM MAKES A NOISE. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD WHEN THE PART IN THE STEERING WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, SOMEONE PLACED IT ON TOO TIGHT AND NOW THE PART WAS OUT OF SHAPE. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE PART WOULD HAVE TO BE LUBRICATED OFTEN BECAUSE THERE WERE NO GREASE FITTINGS ON IT. *JB UPDATED. 07/21/06. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT FEELS BUMPING OR BANGING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16491 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 36,000. UPDATED 10/14/08 *BF THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT TWICE. PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ON WET PAVEMENT MY REAR TRUCK TIRES SPUN A BIT AND THEN WHEN I GOT ON THE ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MPH MY SPEEDOMETER READ 120 MPH! WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE NEEDLE STAYED AT ABOUT 70 MPH. THE PROBLEM IS I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING, BUT I CAN GUARANTEE THAT IT WASN'T 120 MPH! :) TRUCK IS STILL NOT WORKING. VEHICLE IS A 2003 GMC 2500HD.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THEY REPLACED THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PADS, WHICH REMEDIED THE PROBLEM.
2003 GMC 2500 HD 6.0L HAS AN ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *NM
2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD W/DURAMAX TRANS SPEEDOMETER FAILURE IN READING ACCURATE SPEEDS STUCK AT 120 MPH PERHAPS LEADING TO TRANS FAILURE/ LEAKING FLUIDS DUE TO IMPROPER SHIFTING. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT 30MPH OR LESS, THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES REQUIRES AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. AS A RESULT, THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED TO AVOID POSSIBLE COLLISIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
THE TRANSMISSION CLUNKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND - 3 RD AND AT TIMES THE ENGINE WILL REV AND FINALLY IT WILL TAKE OFF, THIS HAS CAUSED AN ISSUE WHEN GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED FOUR REPAIRS AND IT IS NOT FIXED. THE ISSUE STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 6K MILES ON IT AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. THE SPEEDOMETER IS SPORADIC IN THAT IT WILL SHOW SPEED REDUCTION/INCREASE IN SEGMENTS - AS IF IT WERE STICKING. THE ERRONEOUS SPEED INDICATION CAUSES AN ISSUE WHEN GOING TOO SLOW OR TOO FAST IN TRAFFIC. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS HIT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK, IT FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN. THE CONTACT WAS BUCKLED IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. HOWEVER, THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RETRACT AND HOLD THE CONTACT IN THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT'S HEAD HIT THE PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW AT SUCH FORCE THE WINDOW SHATTERED AND BROKE. THE CONTACT'S HEAD WAS LYING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE ON THE ASPHALT. AFTER THE INITIAL IMPACT, THE CONTACT RELEASED THE SEAT BELT AND CLIMBED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND NECK WERE SUSTAINED. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT AT THE SCENE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DID AN ASSESSMENT OF THE VEHICLE AND DEEMED IT TOTALED. UPDATED 03/03/06.
MY 2003 GMC SIERRA PICK-UP SPEEDOMETER BROKE WITH 50000 MILES AND NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST IM GOING. GM HAS NOT OFFERED A RECALL AND NEEDS TOO. *NM

I OWN A 2003 GMC SIERRA WITH A DIESEL ENGINE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOCK HEATER 5X IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. IT QUITS ABOUT EVERY 4 MONTHS DURING THE "WINTER MONTHS" OR THE FIRST TIME I PLUG IT IN AFTER THE SUMMER IT FAILS TO WORK. *NM
SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T READ CORRECT SPEED. SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE STICKS AND THEN WHEN YOU START AGAIN IT WILL START READING FROM WHERE IT WAS STOPPED SO IF IT STICKS AT 30 MPH AND YOU RESUME SPEED TO 60 MPH IT WILL READ 90 MPH. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENTIRE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK BED WAS RUSTED, INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (FREEDOM CHEVROLET, 7052 W 48TH ST, FREMONT, MI 49412, 321-403-0016) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT CHEAP METAL WAS USED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
INACCURATE SPEEDOMETER - AFTER AN HOUR WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET ON 65 MPH DURING EACH DOWN HILL SEGMENT THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD INCREASE ABOUT TWO MILES PER HOUR. ON THE UP HILL SEGMENT IT DID NOT DECREASE TO 65. AFTER THE SECOND DOWNHILL SEGMENT IT READ 67, THE NEXT IT READ 69, AFTER ABOUT 20 UP HILL, DOWN HILL CYCLES, SPEEDOMETER INDICATED OVER 100 MPH. THE RPM WAS ABOUT 1900 WHICH IS ABOUT 65 MPH. WHEN I STOPPED FOR GAS, THE SPEEDOMETER RESTED AT 42 MPH. OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS IT WORKED BACK TO ZERO WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. ONE WEEK LATER THE EVENT OCCURRED AGAIN. TODAY I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT MY DEALERSHIP AND HE SHOWED ME A LIST OF PEOPLE WAITING FOR "INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS" FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING UNWARRANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED IN MICHIGAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 12/15/06 WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED AT COST. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL #05V379000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT MANY DEFECTS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUALLY HAD AN INACCURATE READ OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP BELIEVED THIS FAILURE COULD BE RELATED TO THE WIRING HARNESS. SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM NO REPAIRS WERE DONE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE STALLED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE THE STALLING OCCURRED THE CONTACT PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKES TO ELEVATE THE STALLING. HE BELIEVED THIS WAS DUE TO THE POWER BRAKES. THE VEHICLE STALLED ON OCCASION AND WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART. THE DEALERSHIP MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM W AND ALL ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THIS INCLUDED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP AND ELECTRICAL CONTROL MODULE. *AK
