TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WHILE IDLING AT A STOP SIGN, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD DISPLAY 160 MPH. WHILE DRIVING, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD REMAIN AT ZERO. THE FAILURE BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR ON OCTOBER 1, 2007. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11,108.
I HAVE A COMPLAINT SIMILAR TO COMPLAINT NOS.10083555,10244075 AND 10151690. I OWN A 2003 GMC SERRIA PICKUP WITH 28,000 MILES. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER THAT I HAD NO EMERGENCY BRAKE AND NO REAR BRAKES. THE DEALER WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I FELT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. GMC REP CAME AND HE WANTED ME TO PAY HALF. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT THE OUTCOME OF OTHER COMPLAINTS. *TR
FUEL TANK DEVELOPED A LEAK WHERE FUEL LINE ENTERS THE TANK. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL NEEDLE STOPPED WORKING AND IT IS CURRENTLY STUCK AT 120 MPH. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL DISPLAYED 80 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $600, IN WHICH HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING. THE GM MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT HE WOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE SPEED CONTROL REPAIR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44,550.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INOPERATIVE. 2003 GMC SIERRA PICK UP. RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM AND DUE TO THE MILEAGE THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE CLUSTER EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS WITHIN THE DATE RANGE. THE MILEAGE LISTED IS NOT REASONABLE SINCE THEY ONLY ALLOW 10K PER YEAR. THEY WERE CALLED WHEN I RECEIVED THE LETTER AT 104K AND NOW AT 111K THEY CAN ONLY APOLOGIZE FOR THE PROBLEM BUT NOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THEY DO NOT. SO I AM HAVING IT FIXED FOR ALMOST 600 DOLLARS WITH NO HELP FROM GM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND IT HAS OCCURRED ENOUGH TO WARRANT SENDING OUT LETTERS NOTIFYING THE OWNERS OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *TR
SPEEDOMETER READS HIGH & LOW NO RELATION TO ACTUAL SPEED. CONSTANT PROBLEM. EXCESSIVE COST TO REPAIR USING HAND HELD GPS FOR NOW. 2003 GMC 2500 SIERRA HD 4X4.
I WAS HEADING NORTH BOUND ON I-45 NEAR NORTH AVENUE IN MILWAUKEE, WI WHEN IT BEGAN TO RAIN SLIGHTLY. IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 3:28 AM. I SLOWED DOWN TO 50 THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 55 AND THE I TURNED ON MY FOG LIGHTS TO HELP ME SEE BETTER BY THE TIME I GOT TO CAPITAL DRIVE IT WAS A COMPLETE DOWNPOUR. RAINING VERY HARD. I WAS IN THE VERY INSIDE LANE IE: "THE FASTLANE" I WAS APPROACHING THE HAMPTON AVENUE EXIT AND THERE WAS A SEMI ON MY RIGHT HIS REAR TANDOM AXLES WHERE JUST TO THE RIGHT OF MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE AND HE WAS COMING OVER TO MY LANE. I HIT THE BREAKS AND WAS STEERING TO THE RIGHT TO GO TOWARDS THE MIDDLE LANE. MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE ABS BRAKES NEVER TURNED ON. THIS IS A 2003 GMC 2500 HD CREW CAB ALL THE WEIGHT IS IN THE FRONT AN THE CAB. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES I WAS HEADING FOR THE RIGHT LANE AND THE TRUCK TURNED 90DEG TO THE LEFT AND HIT THE CONCRETE DIVIDER WALL. AT FULL 50 MPH SPEED AND THE PASSENGER REAR CAME AROUND AND HIT THE WALL AS WELL. THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. I HIT THE WALL WITH SO MUCH FORCE THAT THE BED OF THE TRUCK EMBEDDED IN THE REAR OF THE CAB. MIND YOU THIS WAS A 3/4 TON TRUCK IT TAKES A LOT OF FORCE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. I FEEL THAT IF MY ABS BREAKS HAVE PULSATED 10 TIMES PER SECOND PER WHEEL I WOULD HAVE CAME TO A CONTROLLED STOP ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITH THE TRAJECTORY I WAS HEADING. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. GOOD THING I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT. THE TIME OF THE CRASH WAS. 3:45 AM. *JB
ANTI- LOCK BRAKES ON MY 2003 GMC SIERRA ARE CHATTERING AND NOT STOPPING PROPERLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS IS THE SAME DEFECT THAT IS SUBJECT TO RECALL BUT ONLY UP TO THE 2002 MODEL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INCLUDED IN THIS OR SUBSEQUENT RECALLS. *JB
COOPER TIRES CAME APART AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK AND 5TH WHEEL TRAVEL TRAILER. I'M BEING JACKED AROUND BY CRAWFORD COMPANY. DON'T RETURN PHONE CALLS STILL TRYING TO GET TRUCK FIXED. THE BLOW OUT NEARLY TORE THE FRONT BUMPER OFF. TORE OUT THE WHEEL WELL LINER THEN WENT UNDER TRUCK AND DAMAGED MY 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. INCIDENT OCCURRED SAME DAY OF COMPANY RECALL. *TR
UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED PRIOR TO PURCHASE THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DID NOT READ ACCURATLY. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF THE FIX. AFTER A DAY OR TWO DURRING A SHORT IN TOWN DRIVE I NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER WAS ACTING "JERKY". I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION, BUT WHEN I LEFT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 60MPH AT A STOP. AT WHAT I ESTIMATED TO BE 65MPH THE SPEEDOMETER READ 120MPH. GM HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM FOR ALMOST A YEAR BUT THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL ON A OBVIOUSLY FLAWED PRODUCT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. RECALL # 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2003 MODEL. THE CONTACT FELT THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 26,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP, THE ABS WOULD SHUT OFF. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF AND STATED THAT IT WAS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURES MENTIONED IN THE 2005 SIERRA K1500 RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,580.
ODOMETER FAILURE. BEGAN SHOWING ERRATIC, INCORRECT SPEEDS, STARTING AROUND 80,000 MILES. AT +/-85,000 MILES THE ODOMETER IS STUCK AT 120MPH AND COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, AND OTHER GAUGES ON MY 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH GM PRODUCTS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH UNDER ANY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE'S ODOMETER FAILS. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPS AND STARTS. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE SPEEDOMETER WORK PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 27,051. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT FUNCTION AFTER DRIVING 45 MINUTES WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL. ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES DURING LOW SPEED STOPPING ON DRY PAVEMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. HE ALSO FELT A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE ABS UNIT. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIPER PULSE MODULE SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE DEALER MADE THE REPLACEMENT AND NO OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 34,025 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I ENTERED THE TRUCK STEPPED ON THE CLUTCH PEDAL, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND STARTED TO EASE THE CLUTCH OUT WHEN THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY CHIRPED THE BACK TIRES AT NO MORE THAN 950 R.P.M.'S AND BEGAN TO IMMEDIATELY GO BACKWARDS TOWARDS ANOTHER VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. I QUICKLY STEPPED ONTO THE BRAKE AND STALLED THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. I THEN PROCEEDED TO LOOK UNDER THE DASH TO SEE WHAT HAD "POPPED" AND FOUND THAT I COULD SEE LIGHT THROUGHOUT THE FIREWALL, AS I MOVED THE PEDAL UP AND DOWN. I OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND THAT THE BLACK PLASTIC FLANGE THAT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER MOUNTS TO HAD BROKEN OR SHATTERED RELEASING THE MASTER CYLINDER THEREFORE, COMPLETELY DISENGAGING THE CLUTCH. HAD I NOT BEEN QUICK TO REACT, I WOULD HAVE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE SIDE CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. HAD I BEEN IN 1ST GEAR WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED I WOULD HAVE LUNGED FOWARD AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY AND OFF A 10' LEDGE STRAIGHT DOWN INTO MY NEIGHBORS BACKYARD, RESULTING IN PERSONAL AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY APPROX 104 THOUSAND MILES. THIS WAS A POOR DESIGN AND HAS FAILED IN A VERY DANGEROUS MANNER. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 SIERRA PICKUP 4X4, 64,000 MILES. IT HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. 4 WHEEL DRIVE HAS ONLY BEEN ENGAGED LESS THAN A DOZEN TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. MILEAGE HAS BEEN APPROX 50/50 BETWEEN HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING. ON A RECENT TRIP FROM PRESCOTT AZ TO PHOENIX AZ, THE PASSENGER SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED ON 2003 GMC SIERRA PICKUP; 2500HD WITH DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE. ONCE HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED, THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE BROKE AND BASICALLY ALLOWED FOR THE WHEEL TO BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND HAD IT FAILED APPROX 10-15 MILES EARLIER IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAINS BETWEEN PRESCOTT AZ AND PHEONIX AZ. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM; PEORIA PONTIAC GMC, PEORIA, AZ. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED THE HUB ASSEMBLY FAILURE AND AXLE BREAKAGE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE DRIVER'S SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY; IT WAS ALSO BAD. I ASKED THE SERVICE PERSON IF THERE WAS SOME ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE THAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM. THE RESPONSE WAS A DISCONCERTING NO; THIS JUST SEEMS TO HAPPEN ON SOME OF THE PICKUPS. I HAVE PAID TO HAVE BOTH FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES REPLACED AND THE PASSENGER AXLE; APPROX $2500. MY BIGGER CONCERN IS FIRST THAT 65000 CITY & HIGHWAY MILES SEEMS PRETTY LOW FOR A FAILURE POINT OF SOMETHING SO CRITICAL AS THE STEERING AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SECONDLY THAT THERE IS APPARENTLY NO FIX OR ADDITIONAL EXPLANATION OF HOW TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM ON THIS VEHICLE. MY IMMEDIATE SUSPICION IS THAT GM INADEQUATE HUB ASSEMBLIES ON THEIR DIESEL PICKUPS AND ARE NOT ABLE TO HANDLE THE ADDITIONAL STRESSES OF THE HEAVY WEIGHTS AND TORQUES, ETC. I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY ELDERLY PARENTS AND WE WERE LITERALLY LUCKY THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON A FLAT OPEN AREA OF ROAD AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. *JB
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE WHILE DRIVING.. HAD NO IDEA HOW FAST I WAS GOING, ENDED UP GETTING A SPEEDING TICKET AND HAD TO GET IT REPAIRED PER POLICE OFFICER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. HE HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 9,669 MILES ON IT SINCE IT WAS DEFECTIVE. HE WAS CONCERNED THAT HE HAD TO REPLACE THE PART WITH SINCE THE MILEAGE WAS SO LOW. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,669.
I OWN A 2003 GMC SIERRA WITH 39,543 MILES AS OF 3/5/07. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN READING ERRATICALLY AND HAS NOW COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *JB
ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER; WILL NOT RESET TO 0; WILL NOT CORRECTLY MEASURE SPEED . *JB
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. REPLACED AT A COST OD APPROXIMATELY $450.00. FAILURE ON MY OTHER TRUCK. GMC 2500HD 4X4 IN 2006. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OR LESS, THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE TWO FAULTY ABS SENSORS. BOTH SENSORS WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,195 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT BURNED OUT. WHEN I REPLACED IT THE BOTTOM OF THE BULB WAS BURNED AND THE PLASTIC WIRING SOCKET WAS PARTIALLY MELTED AND BRITTLE AROUND THE BULB BASE. I CHANGED THE BULB AND THE LIGHT STILL WORKS. HOWEVER, I ALSO HAD TROUBLE WITH ONE OF MY TWO HORNS NOT WORKING, BUT AFTER REPLACING THE BURNED OUT BULB, BOTH HORNS WORKED. WIRING SEEMS TO BE IN SERIES WITH HORN(S) AND BURNED OUT BULB DISABLES HORN. *JB
SPEEDOMETER ON MY 03 GMC SIERRA TRUCK STOPS WORKING THEN WORKS ERRATICALLY,SHOWS IM GOING 120 WHEN ONLY TRAVELING AT 35 OR SO. I HAVE BEEN READING POST ON FORUM SITES AND SEEMS TO BE A CHRONIC PROBLEM FROM GM. *JB
MY TRUCK ONLY HAS HALF OF IT'S BRAKING POWER. THE BRAKE PADS ARE RUSTED TO THE SLIDES & HAVE NOT MOVED FOR A VERY LONG TIME THE ROTORS ON ALL 4 WHEELS ARE COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN RUST. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL BRAKES. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO GMC FOR SERVICE [OIL CHANGE] & THEY STATED THE REAR ROTORS WERE "VERY RUSTY". I ASKED THE SERVICEMAN WHAT TO DO & HE SAID EITHER I NEEDED TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED OR THE BRAKES WOULD WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. IT IS OBVIOUS TO ME NOW [AFTER LOOKING AT THE BRAKES PERSONALLY] THAT THEY WERE NOT WORKING OR THE ROTORS WOULDN'T BE RUSTY AT ALL. THERE WAS NEVER ANYTHING SAID ABOUT THE BRAKES NOT WORKING OR THE EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE OF A 3/4 TON TRUCK GOING DOWN THE ROAD WITH ONLY HALF OF IT'S BRAKING POWER. I TALKED TO THE BBB AND THEY SAID WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK IN IT HAD 48000 MILES ON IT & WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THIS SITUATION STARTED BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED BUT I WAS NOT AWARE OF IT. MY TRUCK IS A 2003 AND I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT [SERVICED REGULARLY AND GARAGE KEPT] AND THERE IS NO REASON THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE RUSTED THIS WAY UNLESS INFERIOR PARTS OR WORKMANSHIP IS INVOLVED. I KNOW TWO OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR TRUCKS AND ONE OF THEM HAS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE. WE LOOKED AT HIS AFTER I DISCOVERED MY PROBLEM. HE, AS I, WERE UNAWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I THINK THERE ARE A LOT OF GENERAL MOTORS TRUCKS OUT THERE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM THAT PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE OF. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR AT LEAST AN INDEPENDENT STUDY ON THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION BEFORE SOMEONE DIES IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. OUT OF THE BLUE, THE SPEEDOMETER ON OUR 2003 GMC SIERRA STARTED ACTING ERRATICALLY. AT REST, IT READS ~50 MPH, AND OVER 120 MPH WHEN DRIVING. *JB
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MANY OF THE 01-06 MODEL GMC/CHEV TRUCKS INCLUDING MY 2003 GMC SIERRA WILL GO OUT. THE FAILURE STARTS WITH THE SPEEDOMETER STICKING 20-30 MPH HIGH AND WILL FUNCTION CORRECTLY WITH THAT DELTA. EVENTUALLY THIS DELTA WILL GROW AND CAN ONLY BE REDUCED BY STARTING THE ENGINE REPEATEDLY. THE SPEED WILL GO DOWN BY A CONSTANT 5 MPH EACH TIME YOU RESTART BUT THIS WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO BURNING A STARTER. THIS ALSO LEAVES THE DRIVER TO GUESS WHAT THE CORRECT DELTA IS. THIS MORNING THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO CLIMB EVEN THOUGH I WAS GOING A CONSTANT 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I WAS SPOKE A FRIEND THAT IS A COUNTY SHERIFF THAT WAS CLOCKING TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO CLIMB UP TO THE LIMIT SPEED OF 120 MPH WHILE I WAS STILL GOING 30 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER EVENTUALLY PASSED 120 MPH AND RESTED AT 245 DEGREES FROM THE 0 POSITION. THIS LEFT ME WITH ZERO SPEED INDICATION WHETHER IT BE A DELTA OR TRUE. THIS WAS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY EVENT AND I DIDN'T FEEL VERY SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THIS WAY. AFTER I ARRIVED AT WORK I BEGAN SEARCHING THE WEB TO FIND A SOLUTION, AND THAT I DID. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IN MANY GMC/CHEVROLET TRUCKS. THIS VEHICLE WILL BE PARKED ONCE I GET IT HOME AND I WILL DRIVE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE BECAUSE THIS LOSS OF A BASIC SAFETY INDICATION CAN BE DEVASTATING TO NOT ONLY MYSELF AND FAMILY, BUT TO ALL MOTORISTS. MANY PEOPLE THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ARE NOT FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A SECOND VEHICLE AND THEREFORE PLAN ON CONTINUED USE OF THE FAULTY VEHICLE. 2003 GMC SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH GMC AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *NM
DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT BURNED OUT. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE IT (STILL THE ORIGINAL BULB) THE BOTTOM OF THE BULB WAS BURNT BAD AND THE PLASTIC WIRING SOCKET WAS STARTING TO MELT AROUND THE BULB BASE. I CHANGED THE BULB AND THE LIGHT STILL COMES ON. I THOUGHT I BETTER CHECK THE HEADLIGHTS. CHANGED THOSE BULBS BUT THE WIRES LOOK LIKE THEY ARE BLISTERING FROM OVER HEATING. NEVER DID BLOW A FUSE. SEEMS TO ME LIKE WIRES ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE AMPS THE LIGHTS DRAW, ESPECIALLY THE DAYTIME LIGHTS. NO FIRE YET BUT SEEMS LIKE THIS COULD POSSIBLY SET THINGS UP FOR A FIRE. *NM
ON 08/10/04 RATTLE OR CLUNK CAN BE FELT IN STEERING. GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT VERIFIED CONCERN AND LUBED THE STEERING SHAFT. ON 09/09/04 CLUNK IN STEERING COLUMN CAME BACK. GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, REFERENCE TO BULLETIN 00-02-35-003F. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN SO MANY VEHICLES ARE INVOLVED. *NM
RECEIVED LETTER FROM GMC ABOUT CLUSTER PANEL GAUGES STICKING OR FLUTTERING. I DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS AT THAT TIME AND MILEAGE WAS OVER THE 70,000 STATED IN LETTER. LATER THE OIL GAUGE STARTED FLUTTERING AND BATTERY GAUGE REGISTERS BATTERY AS DEAD. CONTACTED GMC ON 1/17/08, WAS TOLD THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD BE DIAGNOSED BY CERTIFIED GMC SERVICE PERSONAL. I WAS GIVEN A REFERENCE NUMBER TO USE WHEN CONTACTING GMC. I HAD HPR AUTOMOTIVE IN SULLLIVAN,IL. DIAGNOSE THE PANEL.-COST $85. DIAGNOSIS WAS CLUSTER PANEL DEFECTIVE. GMC CONTACTED HPR TO VERIFY PANEL WAS DEFECTIVE. THE COST WOULD BE $600 PLUS FOR THE REPAIR. AFTER SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH TWO GMC SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES .I WAS TOLD ON 2/29/08 BY A THIRD REPRESENTATIVE THAT GMC WOULD NOT COVER THE PANEL REPLACEMENT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS ON THE DEFECTIVE CLUSTER PANEL. MOST STATE GMC REFUSED THE REPAIRS, OTHERS STATE DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED DID REPAIR FOR NO COST EVEN THOUGH THE MILEAGE WAS OVER 70,000. I FEEL THAT GMC SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE IS, SINCE THEY STATE IN WRITING THEY KNOW THE PART IS DEFECTIVE, THANKS M.G. *TR

DROVE 2003 GMC SIERRA PICKUP TO MOUNTAINS, STAYED 5 DAYS. GOT IN TRUCK TO COME HOME AND SPEEDOMETER WAS ERRATIC AT TIMES AND DIDN'T MOVE AT ALL AT OTHER TIMES.HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED. PROBLEM 3 MOUNTHS OLD.

I HAVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA AND THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AT 45-60 MPH, AND GOES UP PAST THE 120 MPH MARK WHEN IN MOTION. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, AND FROM A SEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS FOUND ON MANY OTHER 2003-2006 GM TRUCKS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED AND THE NEEDLE BECAME STUCK ON 40 MPH. THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE ALSO FAILED. AS OF OCTOBER 31, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,700.
AFTER SITTING IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC I NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING AT 100 MPH AND I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. AT THE TIME, I HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. SINCE THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ALMOST ALWAYS INCORRECT. IT HAS OCCASIONALLY FIXED" ITSELF, BUT USUALLY DID NOT LAST MORE THAN A DAY OR TWO. THE NEEDLE WAS OFTEN BURIED PAST 120 MPH. A NUMBER OF MY FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. CURRENTLY I HAVE NOT PAID TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED, BUT HOPE THAT IT WILL BE RECALLED AT SOME POINT SOON.*AK
I HAVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA EXT CAB SHORT BED PICKUP. AT 24,000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS WORE OUT AND CAUSING A POPPING NOISE WHEN I TURNED OR WENT OVER A BUMP. I NOW HAVE 44,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND THE SHAFT IS ALREADY WORN OUT AGAIN! IT SEEMS LIKE THESE ARE ONLY LASTING FOR ABOUT 20,000 MILES. *JB
