TRANSMISSION FAILS TO ENGAGE DRIVE UNLESS PLACED INTO REVERSE. WHEN STUCK IN DRIVE, PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATING WILL CAUSE CAR TO MOVE FORWARD SLOWLY, UNTIL THEIR IS A LOUD VIOLENT SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AR WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE WILL ENGAGE DRIVE AND PROCEED IN A SLUGGISH FASHION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER WHO HAD INVESTIGATED AND FIXED THE PROBLEM SINCE NOVEMBER 2005 AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS TODAY (2-7-2006). THE PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF AFTER THE DEALERSHIP FLUSHED AND CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT APPROXIMATELY 53000 MILES (THE SERVICE DEPT RECOMMENDED THE SERVICE). THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN FAULTY EVER SINCE. THE VEHICLE IS 2002 GMC YUKON, 2 WD.*JB
2002 GMC YUKON FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TS AFTER THE RECALL FOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS COMPLETE THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT HUB ASSEMBLY DUE TO CORROSION. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE HUB WAS NOT GOING TO BE COVER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD EXPIRED. *NM
I AM WRITING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT MY RECURRING ISSUES WITH MY STEERING COLUMN IN MY 2002 YUKON XL. IN SHORT, IT RATTLES. ON THE ROAD, IT RATTLES AT A LOW THUD, THUD, THUD SOUND. TURNING CORNERS, IT RATTLES WITH THE SAME SOUND. INITIALLY, WHEN I TOOK IT TO BERGLUND CHEVROLET, IN ROANOKE, VA, THEY ATTEMPTED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH A LUBE KIT. WHEN THE PROBLEM SURFACED AGAIN, I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. 20,000 MILES LATER, I FACE THE PROBLEM FOR THE 3RD TIME. I DRIVE ON THE ROAD, NEVER OFF ROAD. I HAVE OWNED A NUMBER OF VEHICLES, AND ALWAYS HOLD ON TO THEM UNTIL THEY EXCEED 150,000 MILES. NEVER HAVE I HAD TO REPLACE ONE STEERING COLUMN, IN ANY VEHICLE, AND I OBVIOUSLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A VEHICLE REQUIRING MORE THAN ONE. I HAVE LEARNED FROM GMC THAT THERE WAS A FIRST GENERATION FIX AND A SECOND-GENERATION FIX. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHICH GENERATION I GOT, BUT I DO KNOW IT WAS NOT A FIX. AFTER SOME ARGUING, THE FIRST REPAIR WAS COVERED. THE SECOND WAS COVERED, AS WELL, BUT ONLY AFTER ARGUING ONCE MORE. IT SEEMS PERFECTLY CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED AGAIN, AT NO COST TO ME, BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A SATISFACTORY REMEDY TO THIS PROBLEM '' A PROBLEM ACKNOWLEDGED BY GMC AS NEEDING TO BE REMEDIED. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NOT GOT THE STEERING COLUMN SOLUTION THAT WORKS. I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS. NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT TO REPLACE A STEERING COLUMN ON A VEHICLE EVERY 20,000 MILES. IT IS NOT A FILTER OR FLUID THAT NEEDS CHANGING AT INTERVALS, AND I REFUSE TO HAVE THIS TREATED AS IF IT WERE REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF A UNIT THAT WEARS OUT SO QUICKLY, AND AM VERY DISTURBED BY THE COMPLACENCY OF GMC ABOUT SUBJECTING ME TO CONTINUOUS REPAIRS, AND APPARENTLY HIDING BEHIND POLICIES RATHER THAN DOING THE RIGHT THING WITH A CUSTOMER. *NM
CONSUMER COMPLAINT REGARDING 2002 GMC NOT BEING INCLUDED IN RECALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD SKID AND GRIND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. *TS THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE SERVICED FOR RECALL 05V379000. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT. THE SAME DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT UNITIZED BEARING AND FRONT WHEEL DRIVE HUB ASSEMBLY. *NM
GMC 2002, YUKON: THE REACTION SUNSHELL BROKEN INSIDE OF TRANSMISSION. ONLY 64,000 MILES. 1) NO EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE: CALLED GMC PETERSON IN GURNEE ILLINOIS, GMC KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND IN FACT CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE SUNSHELL YET WILL NOT RECOVER MY COST. I NOW LIVE IN MINNESOTA AND GMC HERE IS DOING THE TRANSMISSION FIX. 2) FAILURE AND CONSEQUENCES: COULD BE EXTREMELY SERIOUS IF DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. 3) CORRECT FAILURE: GMC IS DOING NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE THAT I KNOW OF. CUSTOMERS ARE BEING TOLD THAT THIS IS A RARE OCCURRENCE. HOWEVER, AFTER TALKING WITH GURNEE PETERSON GMC ILLINOIS AND VALLEY GMC FROM WACONIA MINNESOTA, THIS REPAIR IS NOT UNCOMMON AND IS OCCURRING EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. I FEEL THIS WARRANTS A CORRECTIVE ACTION. *NM
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. PARKING BRAKE NO LONGER HOLDS VEHICLE IN PLACE. DEALER CLAIMS LININGS WORE PREMATURELY. PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK, SO WAITING FOR REPAIR. VERY SIMILAR TO PARKING BRAKE RECALL ON 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP RECALL #05V161000. *NM
THE BRAKES ON MY CAR ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE EVERY DAY. I ALMOST RAN INTO MY GARAGE. WHEN I AM PULLING UP. ABOUT TO MAKE A STOP. THE BRAKES GO OUT. *JB
THE WEAR INDICATOR ON MY RIGHT REAR BRAKE WAS SIGNALING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD COMPLETELY WORN ON ONE SIDE AND THE SHOES HAD TO BE REPLACED; IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE ROTOR WHICH ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE ATTACHMENT OF THE SHOES (THE OPPOSITE OF HOW IT IS ATTACHED ON THE OTHER SIDE). *NM
ABS PROBLEM ON A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. LOW SPEED ABS COMING ON EVERY TIME BRAKE PEDAL IS USED UNDER 15 MPH. GMC RECALLED PROBLEM BUT ONLY IN EASTERN STATES, I LIVE IN UTAH WHICH IS NOT COVERED IN RECALL. *NM
DT: 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE ABS SENSORS REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL BUT IT DID NOT EFFECT THE CONSUMER'S STATE, WHICH WAS WISCONSIN. THIS COULD BE REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP FOR THE AMOUNT OF $924. THE CONSUMER PAID TO HAVE SENSORS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS STATED IN THE RECALLED VEHICLES . MECHANIC TESTED THE SENSORS AND STATED THIS WOULD NOT STOP VEHICLE.*AK THE FRONT HUB AND BEARING WERE CORRODED ALONG WITH THE SENSORS. THE LEFT REAR AXLE WAS WORN WHICH CAUSED A FLUID LEAK. *JB
FAILURE OF ANTILOCK BRAKES SENSOR AT LOW SPEEDS. RESULTING IN MULTIPLE NEAR MISSES WITH STRUCTURES AND VEHICLES. HAPPENED ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO MY TEXACO WHICH DIAGNOSED THIS AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A TEXACO BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE. I GOOGLED AND FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN BY GM AND CAUSED A RECALL IN CANADA. REFERENCE DETROIT NEWS ARTICLE "AGENCY CHECKS BRAKE SENSORS ON 1.3 MILLION GM TRUCKS, ROAD SALT BUILDUP IN COLDER STATES MAY HAVE LED TO AN ANTILOCK SYSTEM MALFUNCTION." (HTTP://WWW.DETNEWS.COM/2005/AUTOSINSIDER/0505/03/C01-169774.HTM). I PHONED MY LOCAL GM WHICH OFFERED TO "TAKE A LOOK" BUT THAT "THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY SITUATION WITH THESE VEHICLES." TEXACO REPLACED THE FRONT SENSORS AT A COST OF $520.40. *NM
DURING ACCELERATION, TRANSMISSION LURCH AND SLIP OCCURRED CAUSING ENGINE TO OVER-REV RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF THIRD GEAR, FORTH GEAR, AND REVERSE. CAUSE WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE INSIDE TRANSMISSION @ ONLY 46K MILES. TRANSMISSION RE-BUILD WAS NECESSARY. *NM
THE PARKING BRAKE ON OUR 2002 YUKON DOES NOT HOLD ONCE THE REAR BRAKES HAVE WARMED UP. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ALLOWED TO SIT FOR A FEW HOURS AND THE BRAKES COOL, THE PARKING BRAKE HOLDS. SINCE NEW, THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL. I'VE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST WHEN I TOOK IT FOR STATE INSPECTION, AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS A MINOR ADJUSTMENT PROBLEM AND IT HAD BEEN FIXED. SINCE THE CAR WAS COLD WHEN I PICKED IT UP, THE PARKING BRAKE DID WORK FINE. I DIDN'T REALIZE UNTIL LAST SUMMER THAT THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T HOLD ONCE THE ROTOR ASSEMBLY IS WARMED UP. CLEARLY, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF PARKED ON A STEEP INCLINE. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY BECAUSE THEY SAY THE VEHICLE IS SAFE WHEN IN PARK. I DISAGREE. *JB
CONSUMER REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIR OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF BRAKING SYSTEM, FRONT AND REAR ON GMC 2002 YUKON. *TS ***NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** THE A/C COMPRESSOR WAS NOISY ON STARTUP. SOP COMPRESSOR HAD INTERNAL PISTON FAILURE IN COMPRESSOR. . THE SUNROOF WOULD NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY. THE DEALER HAD TO INSTALL A NEW SUNROOF FRAME. *NM
DT: THERE IS A AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION ON THE ISSUE CONSUMER WAS EXPERIENCING ,NHTSA INVESTIGATION PE05020. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS UNDER 5 MPH ABS ENGAGED WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IMPROPERLY RESPONDED WITH PEDAL DEPRESSED AND A LOSS OF BRAKES. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. SINCE THIS REPAIRS THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. CONSUMER DID CONTACT GM, WHO NOTED NO RECALL IN THE US. *AK
DT: WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE MAIN ROAD AT 45 MPH, THE CONSUMER TOOK HIS EYES OFF THE ROAD AND WENT INTO THE GRAVEL AND THEN INTO A DITCH AND HIT A MAILBOX . THE CONSUMER WENT THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD. THE RIGHT WHEEL FELL OFF AND THE FRONT BUMPER SMASHED INTO THE ENGINE AND THE FRAME WAS BENT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS NOT ON AND NEVER HAD BEEN ON. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE AIR BAGS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED, BUT WILL BE CONTACTED TODAY.THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. *AK
I HAVE A 2002 GMC YUKON. IT HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. I RECENTLY TRIED TO GET IT INSPECTED. IT FAILED BECAUSE OF THE PARKING BRAKE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL GM PRODUCTS THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TOLD ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT HAS BEEN RE-DESIGNED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS NOT RE-CALLED BEAUSE IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISUE.(ALTHOUGH I COULD NOT GET A SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF IT). I AGREED WITH THE DEALER TO PAY 50% OF THE COST TO FIX IT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED I NOTICED ON THE RECEIPT, AND THE CASHIER ACKNOWLEDED IT, THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER CALLED WANTING TO COLLECT $150.00 FOR THE REPAIRS. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I WOULD LIKE FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND E-MAIL ME THE RESULTS.
AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN MAKING LOUD NOISE WITH ACCELARATION, THAN WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS BEGAN BLOWING HOT AIR. THE COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH WERE REPLACED AND WITHIN 1 WEEK THE PROBLEM BEGAN AGAIN. I KNOW 7 PEOPLE WITH GM VEHICLES AND THEY ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR AC'S. IT SEEMS TO ONLY BE A PROBLEM WHEN THERE IS HIGH HUMIDITY. HOWEVER WHEN I WENT TO RETURN THE FAULTY COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH I HAD PURCHASED IT SEEMS THEY ARE ON NATION WIDE BACKORDER. IT SEEMS TO ME THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH OR LESS, THE ABS ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR. THE ABS WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK), HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE IT ONLY COVERED CLEANING THE SENSORS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,807 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. WANDERING ON ROAD EXCESSIVE NOISE FROM TIRES WEARING ON INSIDE. CUPPING OF TIRES CAUSED BY WORN IDLER AND PITMAN ARMS AT 42000 MILES. *JB
WHEN JUST ABOUT TO STOP IN DRY WEATHER, THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM KICKS IN AND MAKES STOPPING DISTANCE LONGER.
DT: CONSUMER GOT IN AN ACCIDENT AND TOTALED THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. CONSUMER WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND HIT HEAD ON AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED 4 TIMES. *AK *SB
(1) VEHICLE FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION (2) EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NON-OPERABLE (3) ROTORS AND BRAKE SHOES REPLACED AT REPAIR SHOP
DT: ON JUNE 7, 2005 WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE CONSUMER WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER CAR. THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER THAT SLOWED DOWN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AS WELL. THE CONSUMER PUSHED THE BRAKES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND IT TOOK LONGER THAN USUAL TO STOP. THIS ALMOST CAUSED THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO HIT THE OTHER CAR IN THE REAR END. THE CONSUMER WAS SHAKEN AND WENT TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE BRAKES WERE INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT BRAKES WERE FINE. THE REAR BRAKES AND DRUMS WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER. TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE REPAIR. THEY REPLACED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES . THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE BRAKES RUSTING. THE CONSUMER CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE BRAKES WENT OUT. THE CONSUMER DOID NOT KNOW EITHER. HAS NEVER HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES BEFORE OR AFTER THIS.*AK THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE REPLACED. *JB
2002 YUKON DENALI BRAKES WERE NOT RESPONDING WELL AND THERE WAS SHUDDERING UPON BRAKING.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR FOUR ROTORS WERE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE PARKING BRAKE DRUMS AND SHOES. THE INBOARD SURFACE OF ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED OFF IN SPOTS. *SC *JB
SEVERAL INSTANCES OF VEHICAL STALLING, NOT STARTING OR RUNNIONG PROPERLY DUE TO FUEL PUMP
2002 GMC YUKON. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES CYCLE AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE ACCELARATING AND NOT USING THE BRAKES. DEALER HAS CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM
COULDN'T GET CAR INSPECTED BECAUSE OF A WORN OUT EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT WE NEVER USE. *JB
(1) NONE (2) PULLED OUT ON HWY AT NORMAL SPEED, LOUD WINING, AND LOUD POP.TRANSMISSION FAILED, LEFT WITH ONLY 2ND AND 3RD GEAR.(3) CALLED TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY DESCRIBED IN DETAIL THE FLAW THAT CAUSED FAILURE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS QUITE COMMON IN THIS MODEL. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED AS A RECALL, TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT.
DT THE ABS ENGAGED ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE WHEN APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TOT HE DEALER WHO AGREED TO REPAIR THE BRAKES BUT AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. *NM
I HAD TO REPLACE A SET OF REAR DISC ROTORS THAT WERE RUSTED ON INSIDE DISC WALLS. WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. *AK
SPARE TIRE CARRIER WINCH CABLE FAILED ON 2002 GMC YUKON XL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE SPARE TIRE COLLIDED WITH THE AUTO FOLLOWING ME CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE.*AK
2002 GMC YUKON DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE BECOME INOPERATIVE.*MR *JB
WHILE PARKING THE TRUCK THE PARKING BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT HOLD THE TRUCK FROM MOVING , EVEN AFTER PARKING IN THE DRIVEWAY. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS AND MAY NEED TO REPLACE ROTORS AND PADS DEPENDING ON SEVERITY. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM AS NOTED IN OTHER COMPLAINTS. DON'T HAVE LARGE SUM OF MONEY TO CORRECT WITH NEW PART COSTS. *JB
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GARAGE FOR A ROUTINE INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERATIVE. WHEN DEPRESSING THE PARKING BRAKE IT FAILED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE. DRIVER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY POWER STEERING FAILED. DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT/RIGHT WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE HAD UNSTEADY STEERING CONTROL, VEHICLE WANDERED BACK AND FORTH ACROSS THE ROAD. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *AK
DT: 2002 GMC YUKON, THE VEHICLE'S FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORRODED. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 3.7 MPH, BUT LESS THAN 10 MPH, THE CORROSION CAUSED THE ABS TO ACTIVATION. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR WHERE STOPPING DISTANCE IS LIMITED A CRASH MAY OCCUR. VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION PERMITTING CORROSION TO OCCUR BETWEEN THE FRONT HUB-BARRING ASSEMBLE IN THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT THE CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING WITH HIS VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO, THE SAME INFORMATION THAT IS INCLUDE IN A MANUFACTURES RECALL IN THE NATION OF CANADA. RECALL DATE JAN. 25, 2005 PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL I.D. 04094 AND THE DOCUMENT I.D. 1587153. CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO DEALER THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNLESS THE HE PAID FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. THEY DEALER ALSO TOLD THE CONSUMER ABOUT THE RECALL IN CANADA. THE CONSUMER HAD CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE, WHICH TOLD HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE RECALL IS IN CANADA. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN IT TO THE FOLLOWING THREE DEALERSHIPS: DENOOYER CHEVEROLET 518-458-7700, DEPAULA CHEVEROLET 518-489-5551, GOLDSTEIN GMC 518-869-2291, ALL THREE ARE LOCATED IN ALBANY, NEW YORK. DT: THE STEERING IS HAVING A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN TURNING, AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO EVEN TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR 6 MONTHS. OWNER TOOK CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN #000235003G STATED THAT STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, OWNER'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE REPAIR FROM GM. THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A BROAD PROBLEM THAT THERE WAS A WAITING LIST TO GET THE PART. CONSUMER THOUGHT THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN , AND THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED DUE TO THE FEAR OF SAFETY ISSUES FOR THE OWNER AND HER CHILDREN. THE OWNER TALKED TO GM, AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO HELP FOR CONSUMER, AND SHE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE UNLESS THERE WAS A RECALL. OWNER TOOK CAR TO HER MECHANIC FOR A TEMPORARY FIX. GENERAL MOTORS ISSUED TEMPORARY FIX KIT SO CONSUMERS COULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY COULD GET THE PARTS MANUFACTURED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WAS A WAITING LIST.*AK
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 YUKON XL, THERE IS YELLOW LIGHT APPEARED ON THE I/P CLUSTER MESSAGE CENTER. "SERVICE 4WD" AND WHEN GENTLY APPLY/PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE IS SOME KIND OF LOUD MECHANISM NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVER SIDE, AND PREVENT THE BRAKE PEDAL FROM COMING DOWN. THREE TIMES THAT I ALMOST REAR END OTHER VEHICLES. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED, THE COST WAS $2212.93 FOR FIXING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE INCLUDING ANTI BRAKE SYSTEM AND 4WHEEL DRIVE. DEALER RECOMMENDED TO A REPORT TO NHTSA.
DURING 2004 STATE VEHICLE EMISSIONS AND SAFETY INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT WORK. AS A RESULT VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION AND WILL NOT PASS UNTIL ISSUE RESOLVED. WHEN PARKING BRAKE IS PRESSED, THE PEDAL EASILY REACHES THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT HOLD VEHICLE. GMC CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE NOTIFIED 01/25/05. NOT SURE ON RESOLUTION. DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY, QUOTE HIGH COST FOR WORK, NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, DEALER BLAMING ON NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WE ARE NOW REPLACING THE BUSHING IN THE STEERING COLUMN FOR THE SECOND TIME WITH LESS THAN 42,000 MILES. THIS COMPONENT WAS REPLACED ORIGINALLY AT 28,000 MILES AND HAS FAILED AGAIN. WITH THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED LEFT WHEEL BEARING TO GO OUT. AT 58,000 MILE THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING IS NOW IN NEED OF REPAIR, SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, NONE OF THIS IS COVERED AFTER 36,000 MILES. ALSO, THE REAR AIR WILL EITHER BLOW COLD UNTIL THE THERMASTAT IS CHANGE TO THE RED SETTING COMPLETELY. WHEN TAKEN IN WITH THE INITIAL FAILURE OF THE STEERING COLUMN, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SETTING WORKED FINE BUT WOULD BE NOTED INCASE OF LATER FAILURE SO IT MIGHT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
OWNER COMPLAINED ABOUT A STEERING SHAFT PROBLEM. THE POWER STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT WHEN DRIVING. OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE SHOP PRIOR TO RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS DEFECT. *AK
ON 11/23/04 LEFT FOR VACATION NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING ABOUT TWO HOURS INTO OUR TRIP. STOPPED AT DEALERSHIP IN BARSTOW, WHERE WE WERE TOLD TRANSFER CASE WAS HEATING UP AND EXPANDING AND THAT IT HAD TINY CRACKS THAT THE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF. NEEDED A NEW TRANSFER CASE ORDERED ON 11/24 AND AUTHORIZED OVERNIGHT SHIPPING. CALLED FROM 11/29 TO 12/3 WHEN I WAS FINALY TOLD THAT PART WAS ON NATIONWIDE BACKORDER AND WOULD NOT BE SHIPPED. MY CAR WAS NOT READY UNTIL 12/15. I HAVE CONCERNS THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM SINCE THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER AND THAT GMC WILL NOT REIMBURSE PARTS AND LABOR OR RENTAL CAR FEES. I WAS ALSO VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. CONTACTED THEM AND WAS TOLD WHAT INFO. TO SEND. SENT IT DID NOT HEAR FROM FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS THEN WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT RECEIVE ALL INFO. LEFT AT LEAST 15 MESSAGES AND NEVER RECEIVED PHONE CALL BACK CALLED AND ASKED TO SPEAK TO SUPERVISOR AND FIRST WAS TOLD NO THEN FINALLY FOUND A REPRESENTATIVE THAT GAVE ME SUPERVISOR. I RESENT PAPERWORK THAT WAS SUPOSSEDLY MISSING AND WAS TOLD ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF LATER THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME CREDIT TOWARD A NEW PURCHASE OR OIL CHANGES FOR THE EQUIVELANT OF 1 YEAR. *AK
FUEL SENSOR WAS NOT WORKING. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO READ THE GAUGE TO DETERMINE IF FUEL WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS DEFECT.*AK *JB
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2002 YUKON XL TRUCK. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK TWO YEARS AGO FROM A GMC DEALER IN MACON GA. I NOTICED THE STEERING COLUMN FELT LOOSE AND MADE UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND WHEN TURNING. I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO A LOCAL DEALER UNDER A WARRANTY CALL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPAIRED/ADJUSTED THE STEERING SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. HOWEVER THE SAME NOISE CAME BACK AND THE TRUCKS ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHT AND TRACTION ASSISTANCE LIGHTS CAME ON. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED. THE SHOPS OWNER DISCOVERED ONE OF THE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE OWNER TOLD ME THE HUBS BEARINGS HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND THERE WAS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THE WHEEL COULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS TRUCK IS 2 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. *JB
