I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD 4DR EX THAT IS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SEEM TO DRIVE FORWARD. WHEN IT DOES GO FORWARD, SEEMS LIKE THE VEHICLE IS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEAR. THE RPMS GOES UP ABOUT 5000 AND THE CAR DOES NOT SEEM TO MOVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, IT WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER. IS THERE ANY RECALL REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER?*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON THE FREEWAY CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO EXIT BELTWAY OFF A RAMP, APPLIED THE BRAKES, BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE VEERED OVER THE MEDIAN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, AND CONSUMER SUSTAINED ABRASIONS TO THE CHEST, NECK, ARMS AND FACE.*AK
THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE DEALER CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS. TWO WEEKS LATER TRANSMISSIONS WAS NOT WORKING. *AK
CONSUMER SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATE PEDAL AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER COULD NOT RESOLVE THE DEFECT. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING 55MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THERE WERE A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER.THE LEFT FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM WHEEL. DUNLOP, SIZE 14, DOT # DBR48188E. *AK
ALL 4 RIMS ON VEHICLE ARE LEAKING AIR PRESSURE. MUST FILL TIRES ON A DAILY BASIS. CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND HONDA WILL NOT REPLACE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION THAT COULD CAUSE CRASH AND FATALITY IF TIRE WERE TO BLOW OUT BECAUSE OF UNDER INFLATION.*AK
IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE THIS IS THE THIRD IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE IN THIS VEHICLE. HONDA REPLACED THE FIRST TWO BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE THE THIRD. SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALER DECIDED IT WAS NOT THE SWITCH THIS TIME BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT THE CAR. CURRENTLY THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT START. MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC GOT THE CAR TO ACT UP AND SAID IT IS DEFINITELY THE IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME IT WENT THE CAR DIED ON THE BELTWAY AT 65 MPH. A BIG SUV CAME UP ON MY BUMPER. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON A HILL AND COULD NOT GET TO THE RIGHT BECAUSE CARS WERE PASSING ME ON THE RIGHT. IT WAS SCARY. *JB
GREETINGS, HOPEFULLY YOU CAN ASSIST ME, WELL MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN A 2003 AUTO ACCIDENT SO NOTED IN THE SUPPLEMENT OF RECORD FROM GEICO (CLAIM #0074801720101031-03) "LINE 17: AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, BUT DID NOT. THE CLOCKSPRING TRIGGERED BUT DID NOT INFLATE - LINE 26: SRS LIGHTS ON, NEEDED TO REPLACE CLOCKSPRING AND RESET LIGHTS. TIME IS NOT DIAGNOSIS AND R&R OF CLOCKSPRING." AFTER THE REAR-END COLLISION, I COULD NOT CATCH MY BREATH WITH MY THROAT, EYES WERE BURNING FROM SOMETHING I COULD NOT SEE. I DID NOT REALIZE THERE WAS A PROBLEM UNTIL LAST WEEK I PETITION MY MECHANIC TO LOOK AT THE HORN CONCERN, WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS A RESULT OF MY AIRBAG. I INITIALLY TOOK MY CAR TO QUALITY COLLISION CENTER ON SILVER STAR RD, ORLANDO, AS THEY ARE AN ELECTED REPAIR FACILITY FOR MY INSURANCE COMPANY, LIBERTY MUTUAL (LM). GEICO STATES THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS GEICO PAID FOR THE REPAIRS, YET THE QUALITY COLLISION CENTER DID NOT MAKE THEM AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE PREVIOUS OWNER'S MISTAKE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE UNDER LM'S TLC PROGRAM. PLEASE HELP ME, BECAUSE I AM POTENTIALLY OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH AN INOPERABLE AIR BAG SYSTEM. *TR
98 HONDA ACCORD, TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKAGE AND TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE SEALS ARE DAMAGED BECAUSE THE INTERNAL CV JOINT BEARING IS DAMAGED, CAUSING METAL TO RUIN TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR$5,000. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND I WAS TOLD TO" ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY CAR". THE CAR STARTED ACTING UP AT 103,000 MILES. I CURRENTLY HAVE 110,000 AND HOPE IT WILL LAST LONG ENOUGH TO SCRAPE UP THE MONEY TO BUY SOMETHING ELSE. NOTE PLEASED WITH THE ATITUDE OF ANY REPRESENTATIVE OF HONDA. *AK
CLUTCH FAILURE ON 1998 HONDA ACCORD-REPLACEMENT PART (CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER) ON EMERGENCY NATIONAL BACKORDER. TOLD THAT HONDA HAD EXPERIENCED "PROBLEMS" WITH THIS PART. ARE THERE NOT ENOUGH TO HANDLE NATIONWIDE DEMAND?*AK
THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ON THIS VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED ,WHEN THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED AND THE CAR IS PLACED IN GEAR THE CLUTCH AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGES AND THE CAR MOVES ON ITS OWN . THIS CAN CAUSE DEADLY CONSIQUENSES AT A RED LIGHT ,SCHOOL CROSSING, RAILROAD CROSSING , THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILS WITH USAGE ,ONE OF THE PROBLEM IS HONDA DOESN'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT! SO HERE WE ARE WITH A 5 YEAR OLD CAR W 70000 MILES IN IT AND THE FACTORY DOESN"T HAVE ANY PARTS.
AFTER EXITING MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD AFTER PARKING IT ON MY FLAT DRIVEWAY, MY CAR THEN ROLLED DOWN MY BACKYARD HILL AND 100FT INTO THE WOODS ON MY PROPERTY. THE KEY HAD COME OUT NORMALLY WHEN I EXITED THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE CAR WAS IN THE "DRIVE " POSITION. NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT THE CAR HAD $6500 DAMAGE. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE I THOUGHT A SAFETY FEATURE OF MOST IGNITIONS IS THAT THE KEYS DO NOT COME OUT UNLESS THE CAR IS IN PARK. 2 MONTHS AFTER THIS EVENT HONDA HAS COME OUT WITH A STATEMENT REGARDING '98 ACCORDS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE KEY COMING OUT WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT IN "PARK." *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND WITH NO WARNING FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEWOUT, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD.*AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON & OFF INTERMITANTLY SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IN 2002. THE LIGHT HAS NOW BEEN ON FOR OVER 3 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD THE DEALER CHECK THIS NUMEROUS TIMES, AND GOT ERROR CODES RANGING FROM O2 SENSOR FAILURE, WHICH WAS REPLACED, TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. TWICE THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND RESET THE COMPUTER. THE MOST RECENT TESTS REVEALED A CATALYTICCONVERTER PROBLEM, WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED BY ANOTHER HONDA DEALER LAST SPRING. THE COST OF REPLACING THIS ITEM WAS ESTIMATED TO BE OVER $1000. AS A GESTURE OF GOOD FAITH, HONDA OFFERED TO GOODWILL THE PARTS. I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT 2 DAYS AFTER THE TEST, BUT THE LIGHT WENT OFF & STAYED OFF FOR SEVERAL MONTHS,. IN JANUARY THE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. I HAD THE TEST RAN BY AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY HAD THE SAME CONCLUSION. THE LIGHT IS STILL ON TO THIS DATE (APRIL 28, 2005). I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION AND MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE & MODEL HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SITUATION, REPAIRED THEIR VEHICLES AT GREAT EXPENSE, ONLY TO HAVE THE EMMISIONS LIGHT COME BACK ON AND THE CAR BEING DIAGNOSED WITH THE INITIAL PROBLEM AFTER ONLY A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I WOULD LIKE HONDA TO REPAIR THE CONDITION AND GUARANTEE THE VEHICLE WILL PASS EMMISIONS TESTS, WHICH ARE MANDATORY BY THE END OF MAY. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT IN THE FUTURE, WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRUST IT TO TELL ME THERE IS A REAL PROBLEM OR NOT.
THE CAR MAKES A BUMPING NOISE WHEN BACKING UP, IT ALSO SLAMS INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN THE CAR IS COLD.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALL#99V06900, LOWER BALL JOINT. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR BECAUSE VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED. *PH
MASTER CYLINDER ON CLUTCH FAILED. HAD NO CLUTCH. IT TOOK HONDA A WEEK AND ME CALLING CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT AMERICAN HONDA TO LOCATE THE PART. THE CAR RENTAL WAS $315. CUSTOMER RELATIONS IS "PLAYING GAMES" WITH CUSTOMER REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR CAR RENTAL. THEY ARE NOT "USER FRIENDLY." I HAVE HAD TO RENT A CAR OR LOOSE TIME FROM WORK MANY TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS CAR. HONDA IS NOT RESPONSIVE TO THESE PROBLEMS. *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT ANYONE TOUCHING THE GEAR SHIFT AND WITHOUT WARNING.*AK
1998 HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION FAILED. HAD ALL DEALER PRESCRIBED MAINTENANCE AT DEALER AND I SUDDENLY HAVE A TRANSMISSION THAT IS BEYOND REPAIR, ACCORDING TO THEM. LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD - 114,000 MILES. HONDA WEBSITE DID HAVE TRANSMISSION RECALL ON SIMILAR MODEL ACCORDS (SAME BODY TYPE, LATER YEAR), BUT NOT MINE.*AK
MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT (SLIPPED IN AND OUT OF GEAR LURCHING FORWARD) AT 81,000 MILES EVEN THOUGH I HAD MAINTAINED THE CAR JUST AS THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. AFTER SEEING MANY OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS OF THE V6 ENGINE FOR YEARS 1998-2002 ON THE INTERNET, I CONFRONTED THE DEALER AND ASKED THEM TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA. I GOT THEM TO GIVE ME A NEW (RECONDITIONED/REBUILT) TRANSMISSION AND IT DID NOT COST ME ANYTHING. UNFORTUNATELY IF THE CONSUMER IS NOT INFORMED AND FAIRLY DIRECT, THEN YOU COULD END UP PAYING WHAT THEY WANTED IN THE BEGINNING WHICH WAS $4,500 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. FROM WHAT I COULD TELL ON THE INTERNET, THE BEST DEAL EVERYONE ELSE GOT WAS A TRANSMISSION BUT THEY PAID FOR THE LABOR (AROUND $500). I PAID NOTHING, EXCEPT BEING WITHOUT A CAR FOR A WEEK.
98 HONDA ACCORD WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAUSED BY A CLOGGED EGR VALVE: I'VE HAD MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM FOR HONDA FOR 10+ YEARS.*AK
I HAVE A 1998 ACCORD EX, ONLY 75000 MILES. AT FIRST I HEARD NOICES UNDER THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEED. LATER I NOTICE MY TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKS AND THEN THE NOICE GOT LOUDER. THE GEAR SEEMS TO SLIP AND NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY WHEN ACCELLERATING AND DECELERATING, THIS OCCURRED MORE ESPECIALLY AT COLD START. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY FAMILY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MY TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REBUILT, THAT I HAVE A BROKEN BEARING WHICH CAUSED THE FLUID TO LEAK AND MAKING ALL THE NOICES. LATER HE TOLD ME THAT ONE OF THE SOLENOID SHIFT VALVE WAS BAD IN WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT OUT OF THE ORDINARY AND WOULD NOT SHIFT UP AND DOWN AT LOW GEAR PER ENGINE ROTATIONAL SPEED (RPM). HE TOLD ME THAT IF I HAD DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE LONGER IT WOULD COST ME A FORTUNE TO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH HONDA, WHY IT'S NOT RESOLVING THIS ISSUE WITH A RECALL. I AM SO SKEPTICAL OF BUYING ANOTHER HONDA VEHICLE. MY LAST 1993 TOYOTA 4RUNNER DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM AT 189,000 MILES. IF YALL OUT THERE KNOW ANY INFO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN '1998 ACCORD LX(2.3L) DOES NOT UP/DOWNSHIFT PROPERLY WHEN COLDONCE ENGINE/TRANS GET UP TO FULL OPERATING TEMP ALL FEELS OK. NO USEFUL RESPONSE FROM HONDA DEALER TO ON GOING PROBLEM (@ LAST YEAR+). *AK
THE TRANSMISSION WAS ROUGH IN SHIFTING WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED TOTALLY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONE DAY AND THE TRANSMISSION ALL OF A SUDDEN SWITCHED DOWN TO FIRST GEAR WHILE I WAS GOING 55 MPH. I THOUGH THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY'RE TELLING ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAVE 8OK MILES, BUT I FEEL HONDA HAS MADE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND NOW I HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. *AK
VEHICLE CRASHED DUE TO IGNITION SWITCH INTERLOCK SYSTEM FAILURE. *LA THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE COST OF THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND COMPENSATED FOR THE LOSS OF THE USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR 58 DAYS. *SC
TRANSMISSION STARTED TO JERK THEN FAILED IN ALL BUT LOW GEAR DAELER SAYS HONDA HAS SO MANY REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSIONS THAN NONE ARE AVAILABLE. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 85,000 ON 1998, HONDA, ACCORD. DEALER SAYS NEW TRANSMISSION NECESSARY AT $5000.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE KEY CAN COME OUT THE IGNITION WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS ON OR OFF. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AFTER A HEAD ON COLLISION INTO AN EMBANKMENT. MY SON RECEIVED FACIAL & HEAD LACERATIONS, AN ACUTE CONCUSSION, AND OTHER INJURIES. HE HAD TO BE AIR LIFTED TO A TRAUMA CENTER IN MISSION HILLS, CALIFORNIA FROM PALMDALE, CALIFORNIA. BECAUSE OF HIS INJURIES, HE IS HAVING A LOT OF MEDICAL PROBLEMS THAT HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD IF THE DRIVERSIDE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED AS IT WAS MADE TO DO. *AK
THE PROBLEM WITH MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES EARLY ON. HONDA SAID THAT I EITHER LEFT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHILE REFUELING OF DIDN'T PROPERLY TIGHTEN THE GAS CAP. THE LIGHT CAME ON AT APPROXIMATELY 95,000 MILES. THE HONDA DEALER IN GAINESVILLE, FL SAID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BAD. THEY QUOTED $800 FOR THE PART AND ABOUT $300 FOR LABOR. I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT THE SENSORS ARE BAD, RATHER THAN THE CONVERTER. THE CAR RUNS FINE AND THE GAS MILEAGE IS STILL GOOD. HONDA SAID THA EARLIER MODELS WITH SIMILIAR PROBLEMS HAD THE EMISSION CONTROL WARRANTY EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES, BUT NOT ON THE 1998. I ALWAYS DRIVE MY CARS AT LEAST 200,000 MILES AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A FAILURE. THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.
ALTERNATOR DIED, WITH ONLY WARNING WAS ABS LIGHT ON, COULD NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE SHOP 10 MILES AWAY. CAR DIED COMPLETELY. I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THESE ALTERNATORS FOR THE 1999 AND 1998 MODELS.
I WAS BACKING UP IN A PARKING LOT. MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THEY DID NOT WORK. IT WAS LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED AFTER I CRASHED THROUGH A FENCE AND HIT A TREE.
CONSUMER BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND VEHICLE HESITATED AS IF GOING TO STALL. DOWN THE STREET FROM HOME CAR STALLED. CONSUMER RESTARTED VEHICLE, AND ATTEMPTED TO RETURN HOME, AND WITHOUT WARNING FLAMES "SHOT" OUT FROM UNDER HOOD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. EVERY COMPONENT UNDER THE HOOD BURNED COMPLETELY. **REQUEST CALLBACK FROM ODI** *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH THE VEHICLE WAS IN A HEAD ON ACCIDENT. CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO, MY IGNITION STARTER FAILED DUE TO WORN CONTACTS. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY HONDA DEALER. IT COST ME OVER $500 TO REPLACE. I DO NOT RECAL RECEIVING A RECAL NOTICE ABOUT THE PROBLEM ON NTSA ID 021V120000. AND THE DEALER MADE NO MENTION OF THIS.*AK
VEHICLE WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. HAD CAR CHECKED, WORK COMPLETED, LIGHT STAYS ON. *NM
THE BEARINGS WENT BAD IN THE OUTPUT SHAFT CAUSING TRANSMISSION FLUID TO LEAK. HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT 89,000 MILES. HONDA PAID FOR 50% OF THE REPAIR COST, BUT AFTER REVIEWING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL. *AK
AT 87,200 MILES MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THE DIAGNOSTIC EXAM ($83.00) SHOWED A FAILURE IN MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER, IT WOULD COST $891 (NO LABOR). THE SERVICEMAN SAID THAT THIS "MIGHT" SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *JB
THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED BUT WAS UNDER SOME SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY A CENT. BUT, IT FAILED, AND I AM NOT PLEASED. THE SECOND PROBLEM WHICH IS MY MAJOR COMPLAINT IS THAT I AM BEING TOLD THAT I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION ON A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 83K MILES ON IT! HONDA KNOWS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH 98 - 01 ACCORD MODELS, BUT ONLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 00-01 MODELS. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD BE FORCE TO DO A RECALL! I HAVE A 1998 HUNTER GREEN HONDA ACCORD EX AND THE PAINT IS FADING ON THE TOP OF THE CAR. IS THIS A FACTORY DEFECT BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL HUNTER GREEN ACCORDS WITH ITS PAINT FADING IN THE SAME AREA AS MINE OR EITHER ON THE TRUNK. *LA
BACK LAST YEAR IN MAY I HAD TO REPLACE MY V-6 3.0 AUTOMATIC TRANSMITION AT 74,000 MILES! I CAN UNDERSTAND IF THE TRANSMITION GOES OUT AT 125,000 MILES OR MORE BUT 74,000 DOESNT SOUND RIGHT TO ME. THEY SAID WHEN I HAD THE TRANSMITION REPLACED THAT THE GEARS IN THE TRANSMITION COMPLEATLY WORE AWAY! THIS REPAIR COSTED ME $2,000 AND AT THE TIME I DIDN'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. THE CAR HAD REGULAR CHECK UPS AND WAS WORKING FINE FOR YEARS. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO CHECK MORE ACCORDS IF THEY HAVE TRANSMITION PROBLEMS LIKE I HAVE HAD, I HAVE TALKED TO MANY PEOPLE ONLINE WHO ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND I HAVE ONE FRIEND WHO ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT FOR HIM HE JUST HAD TO PAY FOR THE PARTS BECAUSE HE COULD FIX IT HIM SELF. LAST SPRING (4/25/03) , I TOOK MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD IN TO THE DEALER FOR BRAKES AND WHILE THERE, THEY FIXED THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH HAD BEEN RECALLED. NTIL THEN, I HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM STARTING MY CAR. AFTER THE RECALL REPLACEMENT, I NOW HAVE STARTING PROBLEMS! IT SEEMS THAT MY CAR WILL CRANK NORMALLY BUT NOT TURN OVER. IT APPEARS NOT TO BE GETTING FUEL. THE CAR WILL THEN START NORMALLY AFTER AN HOUR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY AND THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED BUT I STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. STRANGELY ENOUGH, IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAPPEN IN THE COLD WEATHER, ONLY ON HOT DAYS. I AM TOLD BY THE DEALER AND PRIVATE MECHANICS THAT THEY NEED TO SEE IT WHEN IT WILL NOT START IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE & FIX THE PROBLEM. AS I HAVE STATED ABOVE, IT WILL START AFTER AN HOUR OR SO, IT WILL START BEFORE I CAN HAVE IIT TOWED TO THE DEALER. I HAVE 39,963 MILES ON THIS CAR AND I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. MY DAUGHTER'S FRIEND HAD THE SAME YEAR & MODEL CAR AND HAD THE SAME STARTING PROBLEMS. SHE GOT RID OF THE CAR. I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS.*AK
SIX MONTHS HAD PASSED, AND THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD NO RECALL PARTS REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH WERE AVAILABLE. RECALL #02 V 120 000. *JB
FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT FAILED 4 TIMES: 12/98, 12/99, 8/00 AND 4/03. AMERICAN HONDA WOULD NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS A GENERIC DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT. DID NOT OFFER TO REPLACE THE 4TH FAILED SENDING UNIT FREE OF CHARGE. *NLM
