ENGINE WANTS TO LURCH FORWARD WHILE AT STOPS--WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED, THEN HESITATES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELEARATE. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND DISCUSSED TWO TIMES, EACH TIME DEALERSHIP CAN'T REPLICATE PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED OF THE POTENTIAL "ACCIDENT" WAITING TO HAPPEN. UPON SHIFTING VEHICLE FROM PARK TO REVERSE ON FLAT SURFACE WITH FOOT DEPRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, RUNNING INTO A FENCE/TRASH CANS, AND A STREET SIGN EFORE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. I NOTICED THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM AT AROUND 7K MILES, BUT I DID NOT BELIEVE IT AT FIRST. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL ONCE A WEEK. THE ENGINE BURNS CLOSE TO 3/4 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES, BUT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID IT'S FINE. I BELIEVE IT IS EXCESSIVE FOR A RELATIVELY NEW CAR, AND HONDA HAS A KNOWN REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE IN RELABILITY AND LOW MAINTENACE. *AK
HORN INTERMITTENTLY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER REPLACED AIRBAG MECHANISM AND CABLE INTO STEERING WHEEL, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. VEHICLE BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED STEERING COLUMN AT RECOMMENDATION OF HONDA, PROBLEM SOLVED. *AK *ML
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW OR HIGH SPEEDS AND APPLYING NORMAL BRAKING PROCEDURE, VEHICLE WILL SHAKE POSSIBLY DUE TO ROTORS WARPING. 2. AFTER DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL BY APPLYING BRAKES , IT WILL NOT RESUME DUE TO BRAKE PEDAL STICKING.*AK

WHEN DRIVING 20-25 MPH AND UPON DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A NORMAL STOP BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING VEHICLE TO GO INTO A SKID, LET UP ON BRAKES. REAR END LINK IS BROKEN WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE REAR SWAY BAR. APPEARS THAT THE WELD ON THE END LINK DID NOT HOLD. *AK
ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, ENGINE, RADIO, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AS IF KEY TURNED OFF . AT A 4 WAY STOP, MOVING INTO INTERSECTION, HALFWAY THROUGH A RIGHT TURN. WHEN FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CAR SHUT DOWN WITH SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, COULD NOT STEER OR BRAKE PROPERLY, CAR CROSSED ONCOMMING TRAFFIC LANE ENDING UP ON WRONG SIDE OF ROAD. RESTARTED OKAY, RAN FOR 2 SECONDS THEN FAILED AGAIN. RESTARTED AGAIN AFTER 10 MINUTES AND RAN LONG ENOUGH TO GET HOME 2 MILES THEN TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER CANNOT FIND ROOT CAUSE, REPRODUCE THE FAILURE, AND HE DOES NOT CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE. WE CANNOT DRIVE IT THINKING IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN WITH POTENTIAL LETHAL CONSEQUENCES. *AK
EXCESSIVE PRESSURE NEEDED TO MOVE STUCK ACCELERATOR, THEN SUDDENLY LOOSENS AND CAR LURCHES. *AK
IN JANUARY 2000, I TOOK MY HONDA IN TO THE TRICKET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A STICKING GAS PEDAL REPAIR. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 35, 187. THE PEDAL WOULD STICK AND REQUIRE A HARD PUNCH WITH THE FOOT TO COME LOOSE. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE AND TOLD ME IT WAS CAUSED BY A HONDA FLOOR MAT. THIS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT. ON JANUARY 16, 2002 I TOOK THE HONDA INTO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED MY GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I USED NO FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP CLEANED THE THROTTLE AGAIN WITH A CHARGE TO ME OF $35.18 WHICH SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN I ASKED WHY THIS ELEMENT HAD FAILED TWICE, AT FIRST I WAS TOLD IT WAS BAD GAS, THEN THE DEALERRSHIP ADMITTED 98-99 HONDA ACCORDS HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT NORMALLY STICK WIDE OPEN. I GUESS DANGEROUS IS A MATTER OF OPINION. A GAS PEDAL STUCK HALF WAY DOWN COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I CALLED THE NATIONAL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS TOLD TO GET THE THROTTLE CLEANED AS PART OF MY NORMAL MAINTENANCE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER HONDA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS DILEMMA. IT APPEARS TO ME TO BE AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND HONDA SHOULD BE CORRECTING IT. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT LATER MODEL HONDA ACCORDS. I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE A NEW PROBLEM. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. BY THE WAY, MY HONDA IS A "LX" MODEL. *AK

I HAVE HAD A STROKE. MY LEG IS GETTING BETTER AND MY LEGS ARE 34". I DID'T REALIZE THAT THE 1998 CAR DOES NOT HAVE AS MUCH ROOM AS THE19 89(MY PREVIOS CAR). I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO APPROVE MODIFIFYING MY CAR,SO I CAN HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO DRIVE. THANK YOU. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE CASSETTE PLAYER FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. *YH
MY CONCERN IS THAT THE LUG WRENCH PROVIDED WITH THIS CAR AND MOST OTHERS WILL NOT ALLOW MOST PEOPLE TO REMOVE THE LUG NUTS AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN TORQUED BY A TIRE DEALERSHIP. EITHER THE TORQUE BEING APPLIED IS TOO MUCH OR THE WRENCHES ARE NOT ADEQUATE. MANY PEOPLE THERES DAYS HAVE SOME TYPE OF ROAD-SIDE INSURANCE AND NEVER REALLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL, HOWEVER IF A FLAT HAPPENS IN A REMOTE AREA AND THE ONLY EQUIPMENT AVAIABLE IS THE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR, MANY PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOOSEN THE LUG NUTS. MY CONCERN IS NOT ONLY THE EQUIPMENT IN THE CAR, BUT ALSO THE AMOUNT OF TORQUE APPLIED. I BELIEVE THE TORQUE BEING APPLIED BY THE TIRE DEALERSHIPS IS WITHIN THE SPECIFICATIONS, HOWEVER I ALSO BELIEVE IT IS MORE THAN NECESSARY. IF YOU HAVE LUG NUTS TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION ON YOUR CAR, ASK YOUR WIFE TO TRY AND LOOSEN ONE. NLM
