1998 HONDA ACCORD V6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE REPAIRED SINCE THE COSTS IS APPROXIMATELY $3500 FOR A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL PERFORMED WITH THE RECALL CAME OUT. IN NOVEMBER 2008, I STARTED TO NOTICE STARTING ISSUES. THE DASH LIGHT WOULD FLICKER. AFTER TRYING A COUPLE OF TIMES THE CAR WOULD START. THE CAR RAN FINE UNTIL AROUND JANUARY 2009 WHEN THE CAR ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO START BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN FEB. 2009, THE ENGINE RPM STARTED DROPPING AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE TO GET MORE SPEED. I PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND STOPPED THE CAR WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL ON AND IN DRIVE POSITION. ONCE I STOPPED, I COULD ACCELERATE AGAIN. ANOTHER TIME THE DASH LIGHTS FLICKER WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR DID NOT START UNTIL AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES. EACH TIME, THESE PROBLEMS OCCURRED, I CHECK IF IT WAS RELATED TO A CERTAIN CONDITION (WEATHER, TEMPERATURE, ETC). THE PROBLEMS HAPPENED RANDOMLY. AFTER READING VARIOUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND OTHER SITES, I STARTED TO TRY TO REPRODUCE THE DASH BOARD FLICKERING JUST BY TURNING THE CAR ON BUT NOT STARTING THE ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE FLICKERING BY SLOWLY TURNING THE KEY TOWARD THE OFF POSITION. I TALKED TO HONDA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME THE RECALL WAS ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED AND THE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MY CAR NOW 142250 MILES. I TALKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD THE RECALL DONE AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I TALKED WITH ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHERE I GET MY MAINTENANCE DONE NOW. THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD BE $100 TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CAR. I TOLD THEM WHAT WOULD GUARANTEE ME THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FOUND IF THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE AT THE TIME. I WILL BE REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH ON I FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET TO THE WIRING SINCE HONDA WILL HELP WITH THIS ISSUES. THIS SWITCH IS PUTTING ME IN UNSAFE SITUATIONS WHEN DRIVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST IN A CRASH DUE TO THE VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF ON A SIX-LANE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 03V423000 OR 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). IN NOVEMBER OF 2008, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON THE ROAD, THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD FLICKERED OFF AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE SECOND BEFORE RESTARTING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RELEVANT RECALLS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 145,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.

DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE, A STRONG RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END EVERYTIME THE CAR GOES OVER A LITTLE BUMP ON THE ROAD. YEARS LATER THE NOISE GOT LOUDER, THE FRONT END, FRONT STABILIZER ARM, BALL JOINTS, BUSHES GOT WORSEN. THE CAR IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
CHANGED MY OIL PUMP, TIMING BELT, SPARK PLUGS, AND SPARK PLUG WIRES. ALSO FIXED THE ENGINE MOUNT PROBLEM. NOW I GET CODE P0740 ON MY CAR. HONDA ACCORD, 1998, V6. THE CODE TRANSLATE TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHICH IS VERY COMMON ON HONDA. *TR
THE IGNITION SYSTEM FAILS IN MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THE RECALL PROCESS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM (03V423000). DESIGN PROBLEMS WERE OBVIOUSLY NOT CORRECTED. THE RECALL APPEARS TO HAVE REPLACED EXISTING PARTS WITH NEW PARTS THAT ARE THE SAME. CAR CUTS OUT DUE TO FAILURE OF IGNITION CIRCUIT TO BE COMPLETED. THIS CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE. IT HAS HAPPENED DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH. SITTING FOR 1 MINUTE WILL SOMETIMES CORRECT THE SITUATION. JIGGLING THE KEY WILL SOMETIMES CORRECT THE SITUATION. CAN RESULT IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN TRAFFIC. *TR
I DRIVE A 98 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN. THE ENGINE AND THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DIED ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I-75. THERE WAS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, NO HYDRAULIC BRAKES, NO POWER STEERING, NO HEAD LIGHTS, IT WAS SO SCARY. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR AND GET THE CAR TO SHOULDER. THIS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE. *TR
THE VEHICLE IS CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING WHETHER YOU ARE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT CAUSES ONE. AS I LOOKED ON THE WEB I SEE WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
HORN WORKS ONLY ON RARE OCCASIONS, PRIMARILY WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED SHARPLY TO EITHER DIRECTION. DEALER HAS STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX, WHICH INCLUDES REPLACING PART OF THE DRIVER AIR BAG ASSEMBLY. OVER TIME, THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED, AND DEALER SAYS IT LIKELY THE HORN WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL COMPLETELY.*AK DUE TO FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES, I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX, THUS I NO LONGER HAVE A WORKING HORN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY ALSO FAIL IN AN ACCIDENT. I NOTICE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 5 OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, YET NO INVESTIGATION OR RECALL HAS BEEN INITIATED. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. MANY OWNERS OF THESE CARS MAY HAVE NON-WORKING HORNS AND NOT EVEN REALIZE IT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE. *TR
I HAVE HONDA 1998 ACCORD EX WITH A KNOW TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I HAVE THE P0740 TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. I WOULD LIKE TO VOICE MY COMPLAINT AT HONDA AND LET YOU KNOW MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
DRIVERS SEAT ACTS AS IF THE TWO FRONT SEAT MOUNT BOLTS ARE NOT BOLTED TO THE FLOOR IT ROCKS BACK WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. IT STARTED WITH JUST SLIGHT MOVEMENT BACK AND WITHIN A 30 DAYS IT NOW MOVES SEVERAL INCHES EVERYTIME YOU ACCELERATE. YOU HAVE TO KEEP A TIGHT GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN YOU DRIVE OR YOU COULD MOVE BACK FAR ENOUGH TO HAVE YOUR HANDS SLIP OFF THE WHEEL. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT I HAVE HAD ESTIMATE FOR A $1200 REPAIR AS THEY SAID THE ENTIRE SEAT TRACK AND MOTOR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THREE FAULTY VALVE STEMS FROM TIRES PLUS. THREE OF THE VALVE STEMS FAILED ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER INSTALLATION. CONDITION WAS SIMILAR TO A BLOW OUT. *TR
I HAVE HAD TWO VALVE STEM FAILURES IN AS MANY MONTHS. *TR
1998 HONDA ACCORD KEPT SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR STOPPED ON A BACK ROAD AROUND A TURN AND COMPLETELY STALLED. THEN WHEN DRIVING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP IT SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF REGARDLESS IF IT IS ACCELERATING, DECELERATING, OR AT A STOP. THE FAILURE OCCURS EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. AFTER PLACING FUEL IN THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTING IT INTO GEAR, THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC'S SHOP. THE MECHANIC INSTALLED A TEMPORARY LOWER BALL JOINT SO THAT THE CONTACT COULD DRIVE TO A LOCAL DEALER. ONCE AT THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BALL JOINT SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE WAS FOUND, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE BALL JOINTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 154,112. UPDATED 07/29/08. *LJ RECALL # 99V069000. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TRANSMISSION MADE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN IT WAS IN GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION HAD A LEAK AS WELL. UPDATED 07/29/08
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2002-2003 ACCORDS. ONCE THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE ROLLS AWAY. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. THE KEY SWITCH WOULD BLINK ON AND OFF SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $250. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
MY CAR STARTED LEAKING GAS. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT AND HAS HAD ALL OF ITS SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE GAS TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THIS DOESN'T SEEM LIKE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR A 10-YEAR OLD, DEALER MAINTAINED CAR THAT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. BUT HONDA COULD PROVIDE NO OTHER REASON FOR THE TANK TO HAVE BEGUN LEAKING. *TR
WHILE TURNING LEFT FROM A STOP SIGN, ACROSS TWO LANES OF EASTBOUND TRAFFIC, THE DRIVER-SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION COLLAPSED. CAR COULD BARELY BE DIRECTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OUT OF THE WAY OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC. ASSESSMENT AT REPAIR SHOP WAS THAT BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAD SEPARATED RESULTING IN COLLAPSE OF SUSPENSION. THIS ALSO CAUSED IN A BROKEN DRIVER-SIDE AXLE. REPAIR SHOP REPLACED UPPER AND LOWER DRIVER-SIDE BALL JOINTS WITH AFTER-MARKET PARTS. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD THE PASSENGER-SIDE, UPPER BALL JOINT REPLACED (FEBRUARY 2008) WITH HONDA PARTS. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD CONSISTENT SUSPENSION PROBLEMS, BOTH FRONT AND REAR INCLUDING LOOSENESS AND CLUNKING THAT HONDA DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT SHOPS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE EFFECTIVELY. THERE IS A RECALL ON 1998 HONDA ACCORD LOWER BALL JOINTS, BUT ALLEGEDLY THIS VIN NUMBER WAS NOT AFFECTED. VEHICLE HAD 117,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *TR
MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. IN HOT WEATHER, DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, MY CAR WILL EITHER NOT START AT ALL, START AND THEN IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF, OR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS TO THE POINT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY HONDA. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO NUMEROUS MECHANICS, INCLUDING AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER, AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THE HONDA DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE STARTER, WHICH HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THE OLD PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IN HOT OR WARM WEATHER. IT WILL HAPPEN A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK, AND THEN WON'T AGAIN FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I AM FEARFUL OF THE CONSEQUENCES ENOUGH THAT I AM NOT DRIVING MY CAR BECAUSE I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHEN OR WHERE MY CAR WILL RANDOM SHUT OFF. MY CAR HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD, AND MEN IN OTHER CARS HAD TO PUSH MY CAR ACROSS HEAVY TRAFFIC TO GET IT OFF OF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF REST, MY CAR STARTED AGAIN. I AM ALSO AFRAID OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT BECAUSE AUTHORIZED MECHANICS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. ONE YEAR LATER, THE FAILURE RESURFACED ACCOMPANIED BY A NO-START CONDITION. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) BECAUSE SHE ALLOWED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO WOULD NOT ASSIST. SHE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,111.
MY STEPDAUGHTER'S CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. BEING AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC I SPENT A LOT OF TIME TROUBLE SHOOTING THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND WAS QUITE SURE THIS WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHICH CAN BE THE HARDEST PROBLEM TO NARROW DOWN SO I CHANGE QUITE A FEW OF THE COMMON PART AND TUNED UP THE VEHICLE I CHANGED THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: DISTRIBUTOR CAP ROTOR, TIMING BELTS WIRES CLEANED THE FUEL INJECTION AND A FEW OTHER COMPONENTS YET THE VEHICLE WOULD MYSTERIOUSLY SHUT DOWN. GOING IN TO FLORIDA WINTER THE PROBLEM SEEM TO GO AWAY HOWEVER I WAS NOT SURPRISED ONCE IT WARMED-UP THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN AND MORE FREQUENTLY. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA AND THE INFORMED ME THE RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE I WAS LESS THAN CONVINCED. I FINALLY SWITCHED VEHICLE FOR A WEEK TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM. HAVING TO MAIN SUSPECT IN MINE THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE MAIN RELAY I WENT TO THE LOCAL JUNK YARD TO SEE IF I COULD FIND THESE TWO COMPONENTS WITH OUT SPENDING. FINDING THESE TWO COMPONENTS ON MY WAY HOME THE CAR STALLED ' I QUICKLY CHANGE THE RELAY CAR STILL STALLED THEN CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE PROBLEM HAS AGAIN SEEMED TO GONE AWAY SINCE HONDA SAID THE PERFORMED THE RECALL WORK I CAN ONLY SURMISE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ALSO FAULTY OR THE RECALL WORK WAS NOT DONE, HOWEVER DOCUMENTED. I HAVE THE SWITCH AS AN EXHIBIT SHOULD ANY ONE WANT TO SEE THE FAULT. I NOTICED THE SOLDER HAS FLOWED OFF TWO OF THE CONTACTS AND THE INNER WORKING LOOK EXCESSIVELY HEAT WORN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. AFTER TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE KEY MUST REMAIN IN THE RUN POSITION TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON, EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THE KEY IS CURRENTLY STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, HE WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO REPROGRAM THE KEY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 176,360.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRUNK ON THE VEHICLE KEPT OPENING AT ANY TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR; THEY FOUND THAT THE GIST OF THE FRAME WAS BROKEN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE, AND THE DEALER INFORMATION WASN'T AVAILABLE.
ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. ENGINE STALLS IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO START. PROBLEMS ARE RANDOM AND OCCUR BOTH IN TRAFFIC AND WHEN PARKED. PROBLEM STARTED MID-2007 WITH MOMENTARY LOSS OF ENGINE POWER (<1 SEC) COMBINED WITH LOSS OF POWER TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. PROBLEM IS MUCH WORSE NOW. ENGINE NOW STALLS AND DOES NOT RESTART FOR 2-3 MINUTES WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. INCIDENT DATE IS THE LATEST DATE. *TR

EVENTS THAT LED TO COMPLAINT: VEHICLE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRICAL COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN LEAVING NO CONTROL OVER VEHICLE: NO LIGHTS, NO BRAKES, NO STEERING, NO SIGNALS, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL WITH 2-3 KIDS IN CAR AND 2 ADULTS. WE WENT ON LINE FOR RECALL NOTICES AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING: COMPLIANT: RECALL # 02V120000,MAY 16TH, 2002' & 03V423000 OCT 27,2003' "IGNITION SWITCH CONTACTS WORN OUT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL WITH OUT WARNING". I OWN AND DRIVE A '98 HONDA ACCORD EX 4-CYLINDER WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN HAVING A ROUGH SHIFT IN THE 2ND GEAR FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FROM STATIONARY TO MOVING. BUT THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE ON THE HIGHER GEARS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS TILL FEW WEEKS AGO. AROUND THE 15TH OF DEC 2007 I SUDDENLY STARTED TO HAVE VIBRATIONS IN THE CAR AND STRANGE HITTING NOISES CAME FROM THE ENGINE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR STILL RUST, BUT I'M NOT USING IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW BECAUSE OF FEAR OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD CASES WITH SIMILAR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WHERE THE CAR DOWN SHIFTS TO 2ND GEAR SUDDENLY ON A HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING, WHICH WILL LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT WITH THE CAR COMING BEHIND ME. THE 90000 MILE SERVICE WAS DONE AT THE RIGHT TIME AND THE TRANSMISSION OIL WAS CHANGED AT THAT TIME USING GENUINE HONDA MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION OIL. I ALSO HAVE CHANGED ENGINE OIL REGULAR AND DONE ALL MAINTENANCE AS PER THE SCHEDULES PROVIDED IN THE '98 HONDA ACCORD MANUAL. THE CAR HAD BEEN UNDER PROFESSIONAL CARE ALL THROUGH THE TIME I OWNED. THIS TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WHICH WAS ADDRESSED IN THE 2001, 2002 AND 2003 HONDA ACCORDS BY VOLUNTARY RECALLS BY HONDA MOTOR CORPORATION. HONDA HAD CHANGED THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE CARS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. THERE ARE 130K ON IT. IN SEPT 2007 THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP IT WOULD JUMP. THE MORE THAT I DROVE IT WOULD SHIFT HARD INTO EVERY GEAR. ON OCT 30 2007 THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO JUMP FROM 1ST TO 3RD GEAR AND THEN WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR AT ALL. 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX 4-DOOR: HORN FUNCTIONS INTERMITTENTLY. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD (NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING), HORN USUALLY DOES NOT WORK. ISOLATED THE MALFUNCTION AND FOUND THAT THE STEERING SHAFT IS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY GROUNDED, AND THE HORN REQUIRES THAT GROUND IN ORDER TO FUNCTION. THE HORN (AND THE STEERING SHAFT GROUND) OPERATES PERFECTLY WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT APPEARS THAT SOMETHING IN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS CAUSING THE LOSS OF GROUND. THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD TWO DIFFERENT RECALLS FOR DIFFERENT PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. I KNOW OF AT LEAST 2 OTHER PEOPLE WITH IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS, AND ONE OF THEM HAS ALREADY HAD AN ACCIDENT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH A WORKING HORN. CLEAR COAT BEGAN PEELING BACK IN 2005 AND I DEALT WITH IT UNTIL 2007 AND HAD SOMEONE REPAINT THE ENTIRE CAR FOR $900. 8 YEARS LATER, THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING. MUST BE THE METAL THAT HONDA USED ON THEIR CARS. IT IS VERY ANNOYING TO SAY THE LEAST. I SEE IT ON SEVERAL HONDA ACCORDS FROM THE SAME GENERATION.

I PURCHASED A FULL SET OF FUTURA 775 P205/65R15 TIRES FOR 1998 HONDA ACCORD ON 05/01/2005 FROM PEP BOYS STORE. WITHIN APROX. 6 MONTHS, TWO OF THE TIRES DEVELOPED BROKEN/ SEPARATED BELTS CAUSING SEVERE HANDLING/ DRIVABLE PROBLEMS. THE STORE WAS RELUCTANT TO REPLACE ALL TIRES, BUT REPLACED THE TWO FAULTY TIRES WITH 2000LTE TIRES. NOW A THIRD TIRE HAS DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUE. I REPLACED IT WITH A GOOD USED TIRE AND HAVE KEPT THE BROKEN ONE FOR POSSIBLE RETURN TO STORE. *TR
