TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING AND NEW REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED AT 76000 MILES. CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY WHILE DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY, AND APPRENTLY I AM NOT ALONE FOR THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT THIS LOW MILEAGE.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 1998 ACCORD IS SLIPPING BETWEEN GEARS. IT HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AND SOMETIMES ACCELERATES AND DECELERATES WITHOUT NOTICE. THE CAR HAS 90,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN SCRUPULOUSLY MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. THE TRANSMISSION IS SUPPOSED TO LAST AT LEAST 120,000 MILES, BUT I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY REFERENCES TO DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS ON LATE MODEL HONDAS THAT HAVE FAILED WITH EVEN VERY LOW MILEAGE. REPLACEMENT IS COSTING OWNERS UPWARDS OF $4,000 AND HONDA IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF MODELS AND YEARS, ALTHOUGH THE SAME TRANSMISSION IS IN MANY OF ITS OTHER CARS. MY MECHANIC IS RECOMMENDING A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR IT WLLL FAIL ON THE FREEWAY AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. UPON INSPECTION THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE HARMONIC BALANCER BOLT AND KEY WAY HAD CAME LOOSE. THE BOLT, PULLEY, KEY WAY AND TWO POWER BELTS WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT REOCCURRED.
JUST PURCHASED A 98 HONDA ACCORD V-6, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS REALLY HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. DEALER TELL ME THAT IT NEEDS A TRANSMISSION,AT A COST OF 3900 DOLLARS CAR HAS 110,000 MILES BUT DOING SOME RESEARCH LEARNED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO FAIL, IT SOMETIMES TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS TO CATCH INTO A GEAR, AND OFTEN HITS THE GEAR HARD CAUSING RAPID DECELERATION. HEN THE CAR STOPS, IT SLAMS INTO FIRST GEAR.*AK
FRONT TIRES STARTED SHAKING AND DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONE. TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AT 73 MPH ONE THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT, CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER TO COLLAPSE PLUS OTHER DAMAGE IN THIS AREA. TIRES WERE BRIDGESTONETURANZA H REVO P205/65R15 92H ON A 1998 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN. TIRES REPLACED. TIRE AVAILABLE AT DEALER. FRONT END DAMAGE ($1800.00) PENDING RESULTS FROM FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE OFFICE. *AK
AFTER THE IGNITION SWITCH REPAIR WAS PERFORMED NHTSA RECALL #03V423000. THE CAR WAS IN WORSE SHAPE THAN IT WAS BEFORE. HONDA REFUSED TO REPAIR THE CAR, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. *JB
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON A 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX-V6. TRANSMISSION IS DEAD AT 99,000 MILES. OTHER CASES HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED (HTTP://WWW.AUTOMOTIVETALK.NET/SHOWMESSAGES.PHP?ID=720). PROBLEM INVOLVING BROKEN SEAT RAILS ON 1998 HONDA ACCORD.*MR THE CONSUMER FOUND A RECALL THROUGH A HONDA SERVICE UPDATE 03-034 CONCERNING SEAT LINKAGE ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM THAT THE UPDATE INDICATED WAS THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE THAT THE CONSUMER'S CAR EXHIBITED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT ALTHOUGH HIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT BETWEEN THE DATES GIVEN THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE UPDATE DUE TO VIN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THAT MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE BUT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO PROVIDE ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. *NM
DT: HAD TO DIFFERENT PARTS ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE IGITION SWITCH AND THE INNER LOCK SWITCH. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE EGR FOR THE EXHAUST EMISSION.. HAD RECALL REPAIRS DONE, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. CONTACTED THE THREE DEALERS, AND MANUFACTURER AND STILL HAD NO HELP FROM EITHER. THESE PROBLEMS STARTING HAPPENING ABOUT A YEAR AGO AROUND JUNE 29, 2004. AFTER THEY FIXED THE IGITION SWITCH IT WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. THEN, VEHICLE COMPETELY STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. *AK
I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES STARTING THE VERY FIRST YEAR THAT I BOUGHT MY 1998 ACCORD. I HAVE RECEIVED ERROR CODE P0401 INSUFFICIENT EGR FLOW DETECTED AND P1456 EVAP SYSTEM LEAK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS. I HAVE TRIED THE "GAS CAP NOT BEING TIGHT ENOUGH TRICK", I HAVE HAD THE CAR TEST FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND RECIEVES NO ERRORS. I ONLY USE MID GRADE GASOLINE BUT HAVE RECENTLY TRIED PREMIMIUM. I HAVE USED FUEL CLEANERS AND HAVE HAD THE EGR REPLACED. THIS LIGHT STILL COMES ON.*AK
TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. WHEN TRYING TO GET OUT INTO TRAFFIC TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DISENGAGES, AND THE RPMS GO WAY UP. THEN, TRANSMISSION CATCHES, AND VEHICLE IS READY TO MOVE FORWARD. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. @ 25000 AND 1.5YRS OF OWNERSHIP, I REALIZED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS STARTING TO ACT UP. DEALERSHIP SHAID THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. I RETURNED @ 35000 BEFORE MY WARRANTY WOULD BE VOID, AND STILL THEY INSIST NO PROBLEMS. CAR WOULD MAKE A THRASHING SOUND WHEN ENGAGED INTO REVERSE. @ 77000 THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING ABRUPTLY AND HARSHLY. THE CAR WOULD MISS DOWN AND UP SHIFTS. NOW 111K000 THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A PRICE OF $4700. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT HONDA NEEDS TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM AND HANDLE ITS CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AT HAND. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE ACORDS BELONGING TO THE 1998-2002 MODEL YEARS. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK AT AXLE SEALS. *AK
VEHICLE LUNGED OR ACCELERATED UPON FINAL PARKING SPACE WITH FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR AND ON BRAKE. CAR JUMPED OVER, AND COLLIDED WITH THE CONDOMINIUM WALL. *AK
THE PAINT AND CLEARCOAT ARE BREAKING DOWN ON MY CAR. IT HAS NEVER BEEN WAXED OR BUFFED. IT STARTED WITH A SMALL SPOT, THEN GREW. NOW, ALL OF THE EDGES, THE TOP, SIDE PANELS AND TRUNK HAVE WHITISH GRAY AREAS WHERE IT USED TO BE THE ORIGINAL BLACK PAINT.
VEHICLE FAILED CALIFORNIA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. HONDA STOPPED MANUFACTURING THE 1998 CATALYTIC CONVERTER. *AK
I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX COUPE V6. I RECENTLY HAD THE CABLE REEL ASSEMBLY FAIL ON THIS VEHICLE (PN: 77900-S84-A22). THIS IS THE PART THAT ATTACHES THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE REST OF THE CAR. THIS PART FAILED CAUSING ALL OF MY SWITCHES ON MY STEERING WHEEL TO FAIL AND THERE IS A HIGH LIKELYHOOD THAT THE AIRBAG WAS INOPERABLE ALSO. THE HONDA DEALER TOLD ME THAT THESE PARTS ALMOST ALLWAYS FAIL ON 1998 HONDA ACCORDS. THIS PART IS CRITICAL TO THE OPERATION OF THE AIRBAG, AND THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE. HONDA DOES NOT LIST A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE. SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE TO SEE IF A RECALL NEEDS TO BE MADE.*AK
MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD HAS 80,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSIONS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE PULLING INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SPEED, AND CRASHED INTO A BRICK WALL. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK *SC
IF I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK, I HAVE TO FIGHT WITH THE SHIFTER TO GET IT OUT OF PARK THE NEXT TIME I DRIVE MY CAR SO I CONSTANTLY KEEP IT IN NEUTRAL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED ANY ACCIDENTS AND I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED YET. *AK

I WAS DRIVING TO LA FOR BUSINESS. ALONG THE FREEWAY, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN INCREASE IN WIND NOISE THAT GOT LOUDER, AND I REALIZED IT WAS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. BY THE TIME I REACHED LA, IT WAS A GEARING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 98 HONDA ACCORD. I STOPPED BY THE GAS STATION AND CHECKED THE AUTO TRANSMISSION FLUID, IT WAS FULL AND THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH. LATER, THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO TO 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. I BROUGHT IT TO THE LOCAL AAMCO, WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THIS WAS UNBELIEVABLE TO ME SINCE THE CAR HAD ONLY 93K MILES - MY TOYOTA'S RAN WELL OVER150K EASY. I CONTACTED HONDA MOTORS, I DESCRIBE THE SITUATION TO DARCEL (4/19/04) WHO TOLD ME TO BRING IT TO THEIR LOCAL DEALE ($100). THEN, HONDA MOTORS TOOK ONE WEEK TO ASSIGN TO A PERSON WHO NEGLECTED TO CALL THE DEALER, I HAD TO CALL THE DEALER TO CALL DAVID. IN ADDITION, DAVID HUMBRAY, 800-999-1009, EXT 118128, NEGLECTED TO READ THE INTAKE INFORMATION THAT I GAVE TO DARCEL. TWO WEEKS LATER, STILL NO ACTION. DAVID FINALLY CALLED AND ASKED FOR ALL THE OIL CHANGE AND OTHER MAINTENANCE RECORDS. GIVEN THE FACT THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGES MYSELF, INFORMATION I GAVE TO DARCEL DURING THE INTAKE, I DON'T HAVE ALL THE RECORDS. MY ARGUMENT IS THAT THERE IS A TRACK RECORD OF 98 HONDA ACCORD AUTO TRANSMISSION FAILURES WHICH SEEMS TO INDICATE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT - THIS SITE, THERE ARE 133 COMPLAINTS COMPARED TO ABOUT 8 FOR A 98 TOYOTA CAMRY. HONDA ACTUALLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY OF 2000-2001 HONDA ACCORDS WITH AUTO TRANSMISSIONS TO 100K. I WAS JUST ASKING FOR THE SAME. BUT THE RUN AROUND THAT HONDA MOTORS GAVE ME WAS RIDICULOUS AND ADDED INSULT. I ENDED UP PAYNG $100 JUST TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FINAL RESULT IS THAT I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND HAD IT REPAIRED. IT IS NOW FOR SALE AND I AM NEVER GOING TO BUY ANOTHER HONDA PRODUCT - SO MUCH FOR HONDA RELAIBILITY AND QUALITY.

I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD V6 COUPE WITH 108,000 MILES. UPON REACHING AROUND 104,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED ABRUPTLY AT LOWER GEARS. HAD IT FLUSHED AND THE PROBLEM SOMEWHAT WENT AWAY BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS. THE ABRUPT SHIFTING IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN I GET STUCK IN A STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. IT DOESN'T DO THAT WHEN IT'S RAN COLD LIKE IN THE MORNING. I'M TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. I'M AFRAID THEY WILL TELL ME THAT I NEED A NEW OR REBUILT TRANSMISSION.*AK
I HAVE A 1998 HONDA ACCORD LX V4. I HAVE REPEATEDLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMMING ON. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE O2 SENSORS AND HAD THE CODE CLEARED AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. MY MECHANIC HAS NOTED THAT HE CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND THIS WEBSITE, HTTP://WWW.CARTRACKERS.COM/FORUMS/LIVE/HONDA/33.HTML AND IT HAS BECOME APPARENT TO ME THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS. BECAUSE I CURRENTLY HAVE 87,000 MILES ON MY CAR HONDA HAS SAID THAT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRENTY. MY CAR DOES NOT DRIVE ROUGHLY AND I HAVE DRIVEN FOR MILES WITH THE LIGHT ON. IT GENERALLY STAYS ON FOR ABOUT 1,000 MILES OR SO, THEN RESETS ITSELF FOR A FEW MORE THOUSAND MILES. AFTER WORRYING ABOUT THE LIGHT REPEATED COMMING ON AFTER IT HAD RESET ITSELF I BROUGHT IT INTO MY MECHANIC AGAIN, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT WHEN AN EMISSIONS CHECK IS RAN ON THE CAR THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. SINCE I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, HAVING THIS LIGHT ON MEANS THAT MY CAR WILL FAIL A SMOG CHECK, EVEN THOUGH THE EMISSIONS ARE WELL UNDER THE LIMIT. BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING OF AN ODBII CODE ISSUE AND OTHER EMISSIONS RELATED PROBLEMS, I FEEL COMPELLED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. HONDA WAS FORCED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THEIR 95,96,AND 97 VEHICLES AND I BELIEVE THAT THEY WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THESE PROBLEMS UNTIL THEY ARE FORCED TO. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED ME TO GIVE LESS IMPORTANCE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, COST ME OVER $200 WITHOUT SOLVING THE PROBLEM, AND HINDERS MY ABILITY TO SELL OR EVEN SMOG THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY, I WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, EVEN THOUGH THE TWO O2 SENSORS ARE NOT GIVING THE SAME OUTPUT, THUS SHOWING THAT THE CAT. IS IN FACT DOING ITS JOB. THIS WOULD COST AT LEAST $400, $1100 AT HONDA. I FEEL THAT A RECALL IS NECCESSARY ON THE EMISSIONS COMPONENTS, AND THAT THOSE OF US WHO HAVE TRIED TIRELESSLY TO FIX THE PROBLEMS SHOULD BE RECOMPENSATED FOR TRYING TO FIX A SIGNIFICANT DESIGN FLAW.
MY CARS STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. WHEN I SEARCHED THE RECALLS FOR 98 ACCORDS, IT CAME BACK AS SAYING THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION SWITCH) ON OTHER 1998 HONDA ACCORDS. HOWEVER, HONDA SAYS MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 0 AND 5 MPH WHEN I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND. THE VEHICLE THAT HIT ME WAS A 1997 TOYOTA CAMERY. HIS APPX. SPEED WAS BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH. WHEN I EXITED MY VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS COMPLETLY LAYED BACK. I DIDN'T KNOW IT AT THE TIME BUT IT APPEARS THE METAL IN THE SEAT BROKE, CAUSING THE BACK OF THE SEAT TO COLLAPSE. THE SEAT WAS IN THE TOTAL RECLINED POSITION. WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED TO COMBS COLLISION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE METAL HOLDING THE TOP OF THE SEAT TO THE BOTTOM HAD BROKEN. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO PUSH THE SEAT BACK UP ALL THE WAY. THE PASSENGER SEAT ALSO HAD DAMAGE TO IT.
FAULTY TRANSMISSION IN 1998 HONDA ACCORD. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING FLUID. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS WERE WORN OUT AND DAMAGED THE AXLE SEALS. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB

THIS DID NOT HELP AND A WEEK LATER THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT HAD COME ON. A PRIVATE TRANSMISSION SERVICE ADVISOR RUN COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND CAME UP WITH A DIAGNOSIS CODE OF P740 AND PO230. THEY COULD NOT PINPOINT THE EXACT FAULT. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE WAS LUNGING FORWARD WHENEVER IT CAME TO A STOP AND IT WOULD HAVE A TROUBLE CHANGING GEARS (ESPECIALLY THE SECOND GEAR). THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVABLE CONDITION IT SEEMS LIKE A BIG SAFETY HAZARD AND A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A HONDA DEALER WHO RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF ABOUT $5600+LABOR. GIVEN OTHERWISE EXTREMELY GOOD CONDITION OF MY VEHICLE I CAN ONLY ATTRIBUTE THIS PROBLEM TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WHEN I DID SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF 98 ACCORD OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN FACING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION. I AM EXPECTING HONDA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY SINCE MANY HONDAS EXPERIENCE A SIMILAR FATE AND THE HONDA SERVICE WHO CHANGED THE OIL THE FIRST TIME COULD HAVE TRIED HARDER BEFORE MORE DAMAGE MAY BE DONE. AT MY LAST SERVICE, THE TECH MENTIONED THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE BUT IT SEEMED DIRTY SO I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY HONDA DEALER WHERE I WAS GIVEN THE NEWS. ON APPLYING MORE THAN NORMAL PRESSURE IT SUDDENLY RELEASES AND VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. MY MILEAGE IS ONLY 54,000 NOW. TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN HARTFORD AND HE SAYS I NEED TO SHELL OUT NEARLY 200 BUCKS TO GET THROTTLE CLEANED, THIS DESPITE REGULAR MAINTAINANCE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE SEEN OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND WHO GOT THROTTLE CLEANED AND IT WAS GIVING SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AFTER 2000 MILES, SO WHAT'S THE GURANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. MONEY IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ME, BUT SAFETY OF ME AND MY FAMILY. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH HONDA SHOULD BE FIXING AND NOT DENYING. HORN WORKS ONLY ON RARE OCCASIONS, PRIMARILY WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED SHARPLY TO EITHER DIRECTION. DEALER HAS STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX, WHICH INCLUDES REPLACING PART OF THE DRIVER AIR BAG ASSEMBLY. OVER TIME, THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED, AND DEALER SAYS IT IT LIKELY THE HORN WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL COMPLETELY.*AK DUE TO FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES, I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX, THUS I NO LONGER HAVE A WORKING HORN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY ALSO FAIL IN AN ACCIDENT. I NOTICE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 5 OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, YET NO INVESTIGATION OR RECALL HAS BEEN INITIATED. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. MANY OWNERS OF THESE CARS MAY HAVE NON-WORKING HORNS AND NOT EVEN REALIZE IT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE.

I OWN A 1998 HONDA ACCORD AND THE RETRACTOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT SEAT HAS FREQUENTLY FAILED TO RE-COIL CATCHING ON THE LEVER THAT MOVES THE SEAT TO A RECLINING POSITION. 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX-V6 NEEDS NEW TRANSMISSION, 108,000 MILES - PROBLEM SINCE 86,000. SEEMS THAT QUITE A FEW CONSUMERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL; HOWEVER, AMERICAN HONDA HAS IGNORED THE COMPLAINTS OF 1998-1999 OWNERS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. FORTUNATELY, FOR THE 2000-2001 OWNERS GOT A RECALL. THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IS THE SAME IN THE 1998-1999 MODELS. JOIN THE CLUB, I HAVE A 1998 ACCORD WITH 120,000 AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS ALMOST RAN OVER BY A TRACTOR TRAILER.
