CONSUMER MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR RECALL ON DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND DEALER HAS FAILED TO FIX IT. NAR 1-22-03 WHEN THE CONSUME ARRIVED TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR MADE, SHE WAS TOLD SHE WOULD HAVE TO DISCONNECT HER ALARM AT HER EXPENSE. THE CONSUMER INCURRED A COST OF $65.00. CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE DEALER, ON HIS HONDA ACCORD RECALL, ON OCTOBER 10, 2002 CONSUMER CALL THE DEALER TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT, AND DEALER TILL TODAY DON'T HAVE YET THE IGNITION SWITCH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER SEAT LOOSEN UP, BECAME VERY MOBILE. CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES IF VEHICLE IS IN AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS. TS
RE: 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX (VIN: [XXX]) WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT 25-30 MPH (APPROX), THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING CLANKING NOISE AND ENGINE DIED. SHE LET IT ROLLED, PULLED OVER AND PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET. WE DISCOVERED THAT THE MAIN PULLEY BROKE LOOSE AND THE DRIVE BELTS CAME OFF THE ROLLERS DUE TO A BROKEN (SHEARED OFF) BOLT THAT ATTACHED THE PULLEY TO THE CRANKSHAFT. THE CAR HAS ONLY 61K MILES ON IT AND I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS TOTALLY PREMATURE. THE BALL HONDA SERVICE REP TOLD US THAT HONDA MOTORS CO. WILL NOT COVER FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, BUT THIS IS TOTALLY PREMATURE I THOUGHT, AND MAYBE IT WAS CAUSED BY INFERIOR MATERIAL (BOLT) AND/OR BY POOR QUALITY WORKMANSHIP (OVER-TORQUE'D). THE CAR HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE BY HONDA DEALER AND HAS NO PREVIOUS ENGINE WORK DONE EXCEPT FOR THE MFR RECOMMENDED REGULARLY-SCHEDULED SERVICES. WHILE DRIVING AT 30/40 MPH, THE BOLT FOR THE MAIN PULLEY CAME OFF THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE BELT BECOMING LOOSE. *AK *JB
THE TRANSMISSON SHIFTS HARD. SOMETIMES IT EVEN SLIPS. IT STARTED DOING IT FEW MONTHS AGO. RIGHT KNOW MY CAR HAS ABOUT 80000 MILES ON IT. HONDA HAS A RECALL ON 2000 BUT SINCE IT IS A 1999 THEY ARE MAKING A EXCUSS. MY OLDER 91 ACCORD WAS PERFECT TILL 250,000 MILES . I GUESS WITH THIS KINDA QUALITY THIS WILL BE MY LAST HONDA EVER.
THE KEY OF THE CAR CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WITHOUT FIRST PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK. THIS MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR THE DRIVER TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH THE KEY WITHOUT FIRST LOCKING THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS NOT A ONE-TIME EVENT BUT CAN BE DONE AT ANY TIME.
ONCE THE RECALL FOR IGNITION SWITCH WAS DONE, THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY 79.99 TO HAVE THE ALARM REWIRED. PH
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. TS
TRANSMISSION MAKING GRINDING NOISE AND HAVING TROUBLE WITH GEARS AND ENGINE RPM. HONDA DEALER ADMITS IT'S TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. MILAGE IS ONLY 37500 MILES ON.VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND PUBLIC SAFETY. SHOULD RECALL OR EXTEND WARRANTY.
VEHICLE DRIFTS BACKWARDS WHILE ON INCLINE. TS
THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE DEALER HAD TO DISCONNECT THE ALARM IN ORDER TO DO THE REPAIR. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE ALARM RECONNECTED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *NLM *JB
TOOK 1999 HONDA ACCORD IN FOR IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. DEALER REPLACED SWITCH, HOWEVER DID NOT RECONNECT ALARM SYSTEM. WAS TOLD BY SERVICE REP THAT "IT WAS AGAINST FEDERAL LAW FOR THEM TO DO SO". ADDITIONALLY CARS ITERMITTENT WIPER SYSTEM IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. SPOKE WITH HONDA CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS ADVISED THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL DEALER ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR CAR ALARM ISSUES RELATED TO THE RECALL.
LTR FM CHRISTINA ILER (NY) REQUEST ASSISTANCE IN GETTING HONDA TO PAY FOR DAMAGES TO HER 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX DUE TO A RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED. *MR *TS BEFORE THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD OF A RECALL, THE VEHICLE STALLED, IT WAS THEN THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE STALLING WAS CAUSED BY THE IGNITION SWITCH. *JB *PH *CB *JB

NOTICED LURCHING AND TRASNMISSION SLIPPING. THE CAR WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY CHANGING GEARS. NEXT DAY I HAD CAR CHECKED OUT WAS ADVISED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BLACK( BURNT) AND THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS ALSO WEAK. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO ED VOYLES HONDA FOR MY 45,000 MILE/3 YR SERVICE. I WAS THEN ADVISED BY SERVICE ADVISOR, JIM VARTIAK, THAT LARGE METAL PIECES CAME OUT WHEN THE TRASNMISSION FLUID WAS BEING DRIANED AND WAS A SIGN OF DETERIORATION OF THE TRASNMISSION. AFTER MY SERVICE ON 10-28-02 I WENT TO WORK. ON MY COMMUTE BACK, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ACCELERATING WELL, THE GEARS WERE NOT SHIFTING. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I NOTICED THAT I WAS PARKED . WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REVED UP TO MAKE THE SLIGHTEST MOVE. IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES TO MOVE THREE FEET. THE NEXT MORNING, 10-30-02, THE CAR WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH THEN SUDDDENLY DROPPED TO 10 MPH DURING A BUSY HOUR APPROX. 7:30 AM. AT TIMES THE HONDA ACCORD WOULD NOT EVEN MOVE AT ALL AND THEN IT WOULD SUDDENLY JOT OUT. I MADE IT HOME, BUT THE CAR IS COMPLETELY IMMOBLE THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE. THE WORST PART IS THERE WAS NO HELP OFFERED FOR A RESOLUTION. I HAVE MADE CALLS AND ALSO WRITTEN TO AMERICA HONDA MOTOR CO., INC, BUT I HAVE NOT YET RECIEVED ANY RESPONSE FROM MY. CORRESPONDENCE. DT
CONSUMER STATES HER BRAKES LIGHTS STAYS ON, EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. AFTER SHE DRIVES THE CAR FOR A WHILE THE LIGHT GOES OUT. ALSO THE POWER OUTLET SWITCH DOES NOT WORK EITHER. SHE HAS TAKEN THIS AUTO TO THE DEALER SHIP THREE TIME ALREADY. TS

CONSUMER STATED TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL AAA OFFICE FOR INSPECTION. INSPECTOR ADVISED THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE DRY ROTTING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO TIRE DEALER WHO INFORMED THAT ROTTING WAS DUE TO OZONE CRACKING, BUT TIRES ARE SAFE. 1999 HONDA ACCORD. TRANSMISSIONS SLIPS AND SHIFTS ROUGHLY AND INCONSISTENTLY. WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED BUT ONLY FOR '00 & '01 MODELS. SAME FAULTY TRANSMISSION STANDARD WITH 1999 ACCORDS. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE PEOPLE START GETTING HIT AND DO THE HITTING AS SHIFTING BECOMES UNPREDICTABLE.

HONDA CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL SCHEDULED ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR 1999 ACCORDS INVOLVING THE IGNITION SWITCH. THIS FAILURE CAUSES THE CAR TO QUIT WHILE DRIVING AND/OR NOT START PROPERLY. THESE HAVE BOTH HAPPENED TO ME, BUT HONDA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AS MY VIN IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BAD SWITCH. MY VEHICLE IS ACTING EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED ON THE WEBSITE. IT HAS QUIT WHILE DRIVING TWO TIMES AND NOT STARTED ONCE. BOTH TIMES IT QUIT I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. IT STARTED RIGHT UP AGAIN. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO GET MY VEHICLE FIXED UNDER THE RECALL.
