CAR WAS SLUGGISH WHEN BACKING UP. WOULD HAVE TO REV ENGINE TO GET IT TO BACK UP. DEALER SAID TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. MR
CONSUMER STATES THAT PART FOR RECALL HAVE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR OVER A MONTH, AND DEALERSHIP DOESN'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. TS
WE HEARD A LOUD BOOM, WINDOW "EXPLODED" AND COMPLETELY SHATTERED UNEXPECTEDLY. MR
ON 9/19/02, I WAS LEAVING A STORE WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE A RATTLING SOUND. I THEN LOST POWER STEERING, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STALLED. I POPPED THE HOOD TO FIND THAT ALL OF THE ENGINE BELTS HAD BEEN THROWN. AFTER TWO DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS ADVISED THE CRANK BOLT (KEY WAY AND CRANKSHAFT PULLEY) HAD FAILED. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP (DON CARLTON, TULSA, OK) COULD OFFER NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED, ONLY THAT I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY REPAIR BILL WAS $536.61. I ALSO INCURRED A $57.34 TOW BILL TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP.
VEHICLE HANDLING BECAME UNSTABLE. VEHICLE AS TAKEN TO OURISMAN HONDA (BETHEDSA, MD) FOR SERVICE. DIAGNOSIS WAS WORN BALL JOINTS. REPLACED AT COST OF $500. ISSUE IS NOT COST, BUT SAFETY. IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THE BALL JOINT(S) COULD HAVE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED, RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. THIS VEHICLE WAS NEVER DRIVEN ROUGHLY. THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE WAS FOLLOWED FAITHFULLY. I BELIEVE THAT THE MANUAFACTURER SHOULD BE NOTIFIED.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALER, HONDA OF HAYWARD IN HAYWARD CA. PHONE# 510/582-1300. STATED A RECONNECTION FEE OF $90.00 DOLLAR WOULD BE CHARGE FOR RECONNECTION OF THE REMOTE WIRING AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WAS DONE. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. NLM
THERE IS A CLUNKING SOUND AND VIBRATION IN STEERING, THE WHEEL DEFINITELY IS NOT TURNING AT THE SAME SPEED AS THE OTHERS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH HONDA TRANSMISSION YET NO SERVICE BULLITEN CAN BE FOUND ON THE ACCORD.HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT IS STILL ASKING OWNERS TO PAY FOR THE COST TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION WITH REBUILD.*AK
CONSUMER STATES AFTER LEAVING HER DRIVEWAY AND APPROACHING THE FIRST STOP SIGN THE AUTO DIED, THEN ALL THE PANEL LIGHTS CAME ON. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE AUTO. THEN AFTER DRIVING IT FOR ANOTHER 3-4 MINS AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT THE AUTO CUT OFF AGAIN. NOW SHE HAS A RECALL FOR THE IGNITION AND SHE IS TOLD BY HER DEALER THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART, AND WILL NOT HAVE IT FOR ANOTHER COUPLE WEEKS.
CAR DIED WHEN PULLING FROM STOP, HAD PREVIOUSLY DIED WHEN GOING 20 MPH. FIRST TIME DEALER SAID NO WAY TO CHECK. THIS TIME ANOTHER DEALER CHECKING AND SAID IDLE WAS LOW. CAR NOT PART OF IGINITION RECALL BUT VERY SAME SYMPTONS. WHEN CAR WS LESS THAN 1 YR OLD, TOOK TO DEALER FOR SOMEWHAT SIMILAR PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT KEYCHAIN MAY HAVE INTERFERRED WITH IGNITION. MADE DETAILED REPORT OF PROBLEM AT THE DEALER. HAD 1990 HONDA CIVIC DIE ON FREEWAY, HAD 49,000 MILE ON CAR. WAS A SWITCH AND UNDER WARRANTY.VERY CONCERNED THAT I WILL BE IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS FAR TOO COMMON WITH HONDA. WILL THINK TWICE ABOUT EVER BUYING ONE AGAIN. HAD 1980 HONDA THAT STALLED AT RED LIGHTS BUT CAR SO OLD -ABOUT 140,000 MILE THAT I JUST TRADED IT IN.
CONSUMER STATES THAT STEERING WHEEL TIGHTEN UP, DEALER NOTIFIED AND SAID FRONT WHEEL BEARING WORE OUT. TS
CONSUMER STATES THAT AFTER STARTING VEHICLE YOU HAVE TO PUSH VERY HARD ON GAS PEDAL FOR VEHICLE TO MOVE.VEHICLE WILL THEN JUMP.DEALER CONTACTED. NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE CHECK ENGING LIGHTS COMES ON AND STAYS ON, THIS OCCURS BECAUSE GAS IS LEAKING INTO THE SPARK PLUG,WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THAT SHE HAS TO CLICK HER CAP 3 TIMES TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM. NLM CONSUMER STATED THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER DIAGNOSED BAD EVAPORATIVE CANISTER CONTROL VALVE AND REPLACED THE VALVE. *YH
THE CAR JERKED AND STALLED IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CARS WERE ABLE TO MISS ME AT THAT TIME. THIS OCCURED AND I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO DEALERSHIP WHERE REPLACEMENTS OF OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL X 2 WAS DONE. IT HAS CONTINUED TO PULL AND STALL AND STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. THE TRASMISSION HAS BEEN SERVICED AND HAVE NEVER HAD PROBEMS. FEEL THAT A 99 HONDA SHOULD NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT THIS TIME. MR
THE HONDA ACCORD IGNITION SWITCH RECALL IN 2002 ARRIVED THE SAME DAY MY WIFE HAD OUR 1999 HONDA DIE ON HER WHILE DRIVING ON I-95. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DYING (TURN THE KEY AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP AGAIN) HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF SIX TIMES SINCE THEN. EACH TIME WE'VE TAKEN IT TO OUR HONDA DEALER. THEY EVENTUALLY SAID TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT TIME IT QUITS (WITHOUT RE-STARTING IT) SO THEY CAN FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. HOW DO I DO THAT? THE RECALL STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH A NEW IMPROVED ONE. ONLY RECENTLY DID I FIND OUT THAT THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE WIRING (TWICE) AND IT CONTINUES TO DIE. THE DEALER SAYS IT CAN'T BE THE CYLINDER/TUMBLER (AND I SAY IT MUST BE THE TUMBLER) AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $380 TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE IGNITION SWITCH (WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. HONDA SHOULD DO SOMETHING. TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM!
WHILE DRIVING, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES SHIFTS GEARS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT THE CHANGING OF SPEEDS. OTHER TIMES WHILE ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC (AT A STOP LIGHT OR MERGING) THE VEHICLE WILL SLIP INTO NEUTRAL AND WILL REDLINE BUT NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. *SCC
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WILL START TO VIBRATE AT OVER 75 MPH AND IT GETS TO THE POINT WHERE THE CONSUMER CANNOT SEE OUT OF THE MIRROR. CONTACTED DEALER.*JB

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. NLM

CONSUMER STATED HAS CONTACTED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING RECALL REMEDY 00V257000. DEALER CONTINOUSLY ADVISES THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. FIRST CONTACT WAS 1 WEEK AFTER RECEIPT OF RECALL LETTER IN 09/02. TS
99 ACCOURD V6 TRANSMISSION GRINDS, SLIPS AND CLUNKS. ALL MAINT DONE WITHIN SCHEDULE. MANY UNITS IN SIMILAR SITUATION. PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE. RECALL DONE ON 2000-2001, HOWEVER 1999 IS ALSO WIDELY EFFECTED BY THE PROBLEM AS WELL.
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH. CONSUMER WAS PLACED ON A WAITING LIST FOR PARTS AND THE RECALL REPAIR STILL HASN'T BEEN HONORED. *JG PH
THE TRANSMISSION WAS SKIPPING SECOND GEAR AND WOULD NOT REVERSE UP A HILL. LESS THAN ONE YEAR AGO TRANSMISSION WAS DOING THE SAME THING, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK A YEAR LATER, THE TRANSMISSION WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME DEFECT. CONSUMER LEARNED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2000 AND 2001 ACCORDS BUT NOT 1999. CONSUMER REPORTED BOTH INCIDENTS TO NHTSA IN CASE THERE'S A RECALL ISSUED FOR HIS MODEL YEAR VEHICLE. *PH *NLM

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED MORE THAN TWENTY TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NLM
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 02V120000 FOR IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT. CONSUMER TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. DEALER HAD VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS, AND THEN TOLD CONSUMER DID NOT HAVE PARTS. CONSUMER PICKED UP VEHICLE, AND CONTACTED HONDA. HONDA ADVISED CONSUMER VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. CONSUMER VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE DEALER NEVER ADVISED THAT VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN.*AK

WHILE CHILD WAS GETTING OUT OF VEHICLE WITH WITH NO WARNING SLIDING DOOR STARTS TO CLOSE CAUSING CHILD LEG STO GET CRUSHED IN BETWEEN THE DOOR, CAUSING INJURIES. DEALER WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK

THIS PROBLEM EFFECTS EMISSIONS, WHICH THE GOVERNMENT HAS MANDATED AN EXTENSION ON HONDA WARRANTIES TO 8 YEAR/ 80,000 MILES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. ONE TO WHICH THE HONDA CORPORATION FAILS TO RESPOND. THERE APPEARS TO BE EITHER A FAULTY INDICATION OF EMISSION PROBLEMS OR PARTS THAT ARE TRULY DEFECTIVE - WEARING OUT BEFORE THEIR NORMAL LIFE EXPECTANCY.*AK

MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD WAS AT HOWDY HONDA ON 6/26/2002 FOR TROUBLE WITH HARD, JERKY SHIFTING AT 20 MPH. WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. ON 7/31/2002, EXPERIENCED EXTREMELY HARD SHIFTING AT 40 MPH. THE ENGINE WOULD REV, DIE DOWN, AND THEN SUDDENLY JERK INTO GEAR. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN UNTIL TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON 8/2/2002. WAS INFORMED AT THIS TIME BY SAME DEALERSHIP (6/26/2002) THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
