OVER THE LAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE CAR SUDDENLY TURNING OFF....NO RPM'S, NO SPEED...WHILE I AM STILL IN DRIVE (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). IN VIEWING VARIOUS WEBSITES, THIS IS NOW BECOMING A COMMON OCCURRENCE...AND IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALTHOUGH HEADLIGHTS STILL WORK, POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE...SO I MUST HURRIEDLY SHIFT INTO N TO GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR DOES NOT RESTART RIGHT AWAY. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT INTERSECTIONS, ON THE HIGHWAY (AT 70 MPH) AND WHILE GOING 20 MPH. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ON THE IGNITION FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM IN/AROUND 2002-2003. I RECEIVED THIS LATE...BUT DID GO TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT REPLACED IN 2009 (HONDA RECALL #02V120000). AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM RECENTLY, I HAVE GONE ONLINE TO SEE COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF OTHER HONDA ACCORD OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEMS....EVEN AFTER HAVING THE RECALL FILLED. EVIDENTLY, THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN FAILING...OR IT WAS NOT THE FIX TO BEGIN WITH. THIS HAS WAS A VERY POPULAR MODEL..AND THERE ARE SURE TO BE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE ON THE ROAD...ABOUT TO RUN INTO SOMETHING WHEN THE POWER FAILS. I AM GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS RESOLVED...BUT IT IS INCUMBENT UPON YOUR ORGANIZATION TO HAVE THIS ISSUE REVIEWED..AND A SOLUTION AVAILABLE...ASAP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. THE CONTACT SAFELY COASTED TO A STOP AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000 UPDATED 02/06/12*BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG TRIED TO DEPLOY. UPDATED 03/05/12
UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC THE SUBFRAME(CROSS MEMBER) WAS FOUND UNSAFE AND RUSTED OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH HOLES AND BROKEN. IT WAS DETERMINED A SAFETY ISSUE AND FAILED INSPECTION. LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW THAT COLLECTED WATER. EXPENSIVE PART AND REPAIR. HONDA IS NOT COVERING IT. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND FRAME WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 30 TO 40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES WHERE THEY STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. UPDATED 8/31/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER DID REPLACE THE RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER SIX (6) MONTHS. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN (BRAKES, POWER STEERING, ETC.) AND DID NOT START UP IMMEDIATELY(5 MINUTES LATER). THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED ABOUT ONCE EVERY 5-7 DAYS. ONCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR (4) TIMES IN ONE (1) DAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. UPDATED 09/11/2012 *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO MADE AWARE OF A RECALL. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V423000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 178,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 205,000.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AT A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION AND THE HONDA TOTALLY STALLED AND THE GREEN KEY LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH . THE VEHICLE DID NOT LOSE TOTAL POWER BUT IT STALLED WHILE A FAST VEHICLE APPROACHED FROM THE RIGHT. I WAS AFRAID I WOULD NOT GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT A WRECK. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. AFTER THAT FIRST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE TOTALLY LOST POWER WHILE AT A STOP SIGN IN A MALL. IT TOOK 2 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE CAR. I COULD NOT IMAGINE WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY BE SO I RESEARCHED THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THIS HONDA HAD IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2007 AND IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 121, 200 MILES . I CHECKED THE PAPERS RECEIVED WHEN BUYING THE AUTO AND THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED IN 2002 DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. AN "IGNITION SWITCH UPDATE" WAS COMPLETED ON 10/1/02 AT 59,183 MILES BY AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. I HAVE HAD NOT ISSUES UNTIL JANUARY 2012. LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THIS SWITCH AGAIN BUT IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. CAN'T IMAGINE THIS PROBLEM AT 70MPH . *TT

LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THIS SWITCH AGAIN BUT IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. CAN'T IMAGINE THIS PROBLEM AT 70 MPH. UPDATE; TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALER ON 1/23/12 AND TOLD THE TECH WHAT I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE TEST SHOWED IT WAS INDEED THE IGNITION SWITCH ONCE AGAIN . THE COST FOR REPLACING WAS $206. 36. . SO, HONDA'S RECALL IN 2002 DID NOT CORRECT THIS DEFECT. *TR
HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL THEIR RECALL OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. AT THEIR SUGGESTION I HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. JUST RECENTLY I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEIR REPLACEMENT AND HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN. WHY WAS THE ORIGINAL SWITCH A SAFETY CONCERN IN THEIR EYES BUT THEIR DEFECTIVE REPLACEMENT SWITCH IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. I FEEL THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE FAILURE OF THEIR REPLACEMENT SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH WHEN HIS KNEE HAPHAZARDLY STRUCK THE GEAR SELECTOR, CAUSING THE GEAR TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL. THE GEAR SHIFTER LEVER CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED DURING THE TIME OF THE UNINTENDED FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
CAR WOULD JUST SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING CREATING DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. WOULD USUALLY RESTART AFTERWARDS AND RUN FINE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2002 WHICH I HAD PERFORMED. APPARENTLY REMAINS A PROBLEM AS THE VEHICLE AGES AS I JUST HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED FOR A SECOND TIME 9 YEARS LATER. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX-V6. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE ENGINE QUIT AND WOULD NOT RESTART AND GEAR SHIFT WOULD LOCK *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER WAITING FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES; SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE AS NORMAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. *JB
NHTSA CASE # [XXX] MY POWER STEERING RETURN LINE IN MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EQUIPPED WITH A 3 LITER V6 ENGINE FAILED AND STARTED LEAKING VERY BADLY. THE POWER STEERING LINE CONNECTS WITH THE POWER STEERING HOSES. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS QUITE FREQUENTLY ON ACCORDS WITH V6 ENGINES. THE REASON I'M CONTACTING YOU IS THE CURRENT RECALL OF DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING LINES AND HOSES ON 2003-2007 HONDA ACCORDS EQUIPPED WITH 6 CYLINDER ENGINES. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V025000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) FOR THE REDESIGNED INTERLOCK LEVER AND WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER JUST BOUGHT A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. AFTER LESS THAN 24 HOURS SHE NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN GOING INTO 2ND GEAR. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, THE TRANSMISSION CAUSES THE ENTIRE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHILE NOT ACCELERATING. THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN TO HONDA FOR MANY YEARS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF INSTANCES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM AND LITERALLY HUNDREDS DOCUMENTED ONLINE. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO BE INJURED OR EVEN DIE WHEN THE CAR FAILS TO RESPOND TO A DRIVER ENTERING TRAFFIC BEFORE HONDA WILL ADMIT THEY KNEW THE TRANSMISSIONS THEY WERE INSTALLING WERE DEFECTIVE AND PROVIDE A FIX? *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER VARIOUS ATTEMPTS. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH); HOWEVER THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
1999 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAD A POWER SURGE AND RPM, SPEEDOMETER AND OIL GAUGES WENT TO ZERO THEN FLICKERED BACK ON *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER HAVING THE DISTRIBUTOR REPLACED, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN ONE DAY LATER, ONLY THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONSUMER STATED WITH NO WHERE TO PULL OFF, SHE PLACED THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL, TAPPED THE REVERSE AND COMPLETELY DAMAGED THE REVERSE GEAR. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED A RECALL, BUT IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED ONCE BEFORE. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING EVER WRONG WITH THE DISTRIBUTOR OR THE REVERSE GEAR, BUT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT WAS THE PROBLEM ALL ALONG. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CUT OFF AND I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S WITH THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH AND IT WAS RECALLED..THIS IS VERY SCARY AND COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. IS THERE ANYTHING ONE CAN DO TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I WAS TOLD TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF..THANK YOU *TR

1999 HONDA ACCORD STALLS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT ALL SPEEDS. THIS IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS SINCE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ARE LOST. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR
ON THE WAY BACK TO HOME, SUDDENLY THERE WAS BURST SOUND, WHEN I CHECKED, THE RADIATOR TUBE HAD BURST. I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC, THEN HE SAID, THERE WAS PROBLEM WITH RADIATOR AND HE FIXED THE RADIATOR. IT WORKED WELL FOR A WEEK AND THEN STARTED LEAKING OF COOLANT. I TOOK IT AGAIN TO THE MECHANIC, THEN HE SAID IT MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH HEAD GASKET OR MAY BE WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HEAD. IF IT IS THE HEAD GASKET IT WILL BE 1200 TO 1500. IF IT IS THE HEAD THEN YOU END UP SPENDING UP TO 3000 TO 3500. I CAN'T IMAGINE A CASE IF THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS WHEN I WAS ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH. I HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR EXACTLY ONE YEAR BACK AND I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR. WHEN I CHECKED ON THE WEB, THERE WERE A QUITE A FEW SIMILAR CASES. GOD KNOWS ONLY WHY FEW CARS FROM HONDA GET THIS PROBLEM. MY FRIEND WHO IS HOLDING A SIMILAR CAR HAS 40K MORE MILES ON IT AND USES IT WITHOUT SPENDING ANY MONEY ON MAINTENANCE.

SO SOMETIME IN OCT. 2002 THE ELECTRIC IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AT ROBERTSON HONDA IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA. NO SUCH STALLING PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED UNTIL DECEMBER, 2010. BUT ON THE MORNING OF JANUARY 2011 THE CAR STALLED IN THE FREEWAY WITH FOUR PASSENGERS IN IT. EVERYONE IS SO FEARFUL BECAUSE THE FREEWAY IS BUSY WITH CARS DRIVING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 172,000 MILES AT THAT TIME. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS AGAIN FOUR TIMES WITHIN THE SPAN OF 6 MONTHS AFTER JANUARY 2011 ON THE FREEWAY AND ON SURFACE STREET . I BROUGHT THE CAR TO ROBINSON HONDA AT NORTH HOLLYWOOD ON JANUARY 30, 2011 FOR SERVICE TELLING THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE PROBLEM IS EXACTLY THE SAME BEFORE THE RECALL AND THAT IT MAY STILL BE COVERED BY THE NHTSA RECALL PROGRAM BUT HE SAID IF IT WAS FIXED BEFORE THEN YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE SECOND FREE SERVICE. AT 2:30PM , I CALLED [XXX] FOR STATUS OF MY CAR BUT HE SAID THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I AM SUSPICIOUS THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I MENTIONED TO HIM IT MAY BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. I TOLD HIM TO REPLACE THE ELEC. IGNITION SWITCH AND I WILL PAY FOR IT. THEY DID IN A FLASH FOR $180. I PLACE A COMPLAINT AT HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE AT TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA IN AUGUST 2, 2011. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER TO MEDIATE THE ISSUE BUT STILL YET TO RECEIVE THE OUTCOME OF MY COMPLAINT. THE CAR HAS REGISTERED WITH 180,326 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
ENGINE CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING. RADIO, LIGHTS AND OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICES REMAIN ON. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS; HOWEVER A GREEN KEY SYMBOL LIGHT DOES APPEAR ON THE DASH AFTER THE CUT-OUT. ISSUE HAS RECURRED THREE TIMES SO FAR. MECHANIC STATES ISSUE IS DUE TO IGNITION SWITCH AND THAT THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE AS DESCRIBED BY NHTSA 02V120000. HOWEVER, HONDA STATES THAT MY VEHICLE'S VIN IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL AND RECOMMENDED CONTACTING NHTSA FOR RESOLUTION.
AT TIMES, ENGINE SUDDENLY DIES OUT WHEN COMING TO A STOP (TRAFFIC LIGHT; STOP SIGN). THE CAR HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I CAN EASILY PUT THE CAR IN "PARK" AGAIN AND RESTART WITH NO PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS 80K MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. AFTER A FEW OF THESE SCARY EXPERIENCES, TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN ATLANTA GA. COST OF $160 (DESCRIPTION - ROUTINE MAINTENANCE - BG FUEL SERVICE ALL - CLEANED THROTTLE BODY). ASSUMED THIS WOULD HAVE CORRECTED THE ISSUE. I WAS WRONG. IN TWO MORE OCCASIONS - HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A "STOP SIGN". THE CAR STARTED AGAIN (TAKES A WHILE IN AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THOUGH). I WAS LUCKY A CAR BEHIND ME HAD ENOUGH SPACE TO STOP. THIS TIME, I RESEARCHED THE WEB AND NOTICED MANY OWNERS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH HONDA ACCORD 1999. I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THOUGH (THE CAR HAD NOT YET STOPPED WHILE DRIVING IN A BUSY TRAFFIC). AT 20,374 MILE, THE SAME HONDA DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE "2002 SAFETY RECALL - ACCORD IGNITION SWITCH" - "ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH FP NUMBER : 3510-S84-305 (SWITCH E 79530)", THIS WAS DONE ON 12/03/02. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP ON 10/28/11. I ASKED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO LOOK INTO THE 2002 IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ; CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS & WHAT ELSE WAS PERFORMED TO CORRECT IT. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS SERVICE ADVISER WAS AWARE OF THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH HONDA ACCORDS (1999). THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP SURPRISED ME WITH REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. THIS WAS A $405 REPAIR. THE FP NUMBER IS 35130-S84-A01 (SWITCH S 79530). I ASSUME THERE ARE TWO PARTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. I AM NOT CERTAIN WHY THE 2002 SAFETY RECALL DID NOT ADVICE THE DEALERSHIPS TO REPLACE BOTH PARTS (E & S SWITCHES). THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THE "S" SWITCH IS BEHIND THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V025000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH), BUT THE RECALL ONLY COVERED THE INTERLOCK FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL HOWEVER, THE IGNITION SWITCH ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 199,000.
THE NHTSA SHOULD BE AWARE THAT HONDA HAS FAILED TO NOTIFY MANY ACCORD OWNERS OF A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, NAMELY, AN IGNITION SWITCH THAT MAY CAUSE THEIR CARS TO QUIT AT ANY TIME AND AT ANY SPEED. NHTSA RECALL 02V120000 OF MAY 16, 2002 INCLUDED THE 1997-1999 ACCORDS; HOWEVER, HONDA CLAIMS MANY OF THESE ACCORDS, INCLUDING OURS, WERE EXCLUDED DUE TO THEIR VINS AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE SWITCHES WITHOUT CHARGE. OUR 1999 ACCORD EX RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND EXAMINATION OF THE OLD SWITCH (PHOTOS INCLUDED IN A LETTER TO THE NHTSA) SHOWED THAT DETERIORATION OF THE SWITCH CONTACTS CAUSED THE SWITCH TO REACH A TEMPERATURE SUFFICIENT TO MELT THE SOLDER ON THE V+ WHITE WIRE/SWITCH BOND. REPLACEMENT OF THE SWITCH REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE SWITCH FAILS THE CAR QUITS IMMEDIATELY AND THE DRIVER IS LEFT WITH NO OPTION OTHER THAN TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD -- WHICH AT HIGH SPEED AND IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC MAY LEAD TO A SERIOUS/DEADLY COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE IGNITION RELAY. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE HAD RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 230,000.
PURCHASED 99 HONDA ACCORD V6 IN 2007. ONE OWNER CAR. IM SECOND OWNER. ALL MAINTENANCE DONE ON SCHEDULE. ON 5/29/11 TRANSMISSION FAILED. 1999 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR AN IGNITION INTERLOCK *TGW THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM WHEN THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THEY HAD TO WAIT FOR A SHOP FOREMAN TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT SINCE THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE HIM 2 HOURS OF LABOR TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS APPARENTLY RELATED TO THEM TRYING TO FIX THE IGNITION. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A PRE-EXISTING ISSUE WITH THE SHIFTER AND THAT THE 2 FREE HOURS NO LONGER APPLIED. THE DEALER LATER CONTACTED THE CONSUMER AND INFORMED HIM THE COST WOULD BE $650 TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER MECHANISM.*JB

SEVERAL TIMES I OR ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER HAVE RETURNED TO THE CAR TO FIND IT IN DRIVE, BUT ON LEVEL GROUND, SO IT DID NOT ROLL MORE THAN A FEW INCHES AT MOST. HOWEVER, THE POTENTIAL TO ROLL FURTHER AND CAUSE A CRASH IS DEFINITELY THERE IF ONE FAILS TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE. HONDA (NATIONAL LEVEL) CLAIMS THIS RECALLED ISSUE WAS REPAIRED 10 YEARS AGO AND WILL NOT DO A DIAGNOSTIC WITHOUT GUARANTEE OF PAYMENT BY ME. THE IGNITION SHUTS OFF. THE GM RECALL ON IGNITION SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR. THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF ON THE FREEWAY GOING ANY SPEED 20-70 MILES PER HOUR AND SOMETIMES AT A STOP SIGN. NO WARNING AT ALL. I HAD THE MECH GIVE IT TO ME. WHEN HE TOLD ME IT WAS SWITCH I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL SO HE CHECKED AND YES SO I CALLED HONDA. THE WOMAN I SPOKE TO WAS VERY MEAN/SNOTTY SAYING MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST. SO, I HAD TO GO AHEAD AND PAY OUT OF MY POCKET AT THE DEALERSHIP MY INSURANCE COMP TOWED TO FOR FIXING. I HAVE HAD INCIDENTS WITH MY HONDA ACCORD FOR MONTHS. MANY TIMES, PARTICULARLY WHEN THE WEATHER WAS EXTREMELY HOT, IT WOULD TAKE AS LONG AS 15 MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED. I TOOK IT TO MY HONDA DEALER (WHERE IT HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT!) AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. THEY CHARGED ME $100 TO TELL ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. MY SISTER FOUND THIS WEBSITE AND THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES, SO I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND TOLD HIM TO CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH. HE CHARGED ME $40 TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO SAID THE IGNITION SWITCH LOOKED FINE, BUT MAYBE IT WAS THE FUEL SWITCH. HE REPLACED THAT AND I STILL HAD ISSUES. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE LAST GUY AND TOLD HIM TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH ANYWAY. THE CAR FEELS GREAT! IT HASN'T RUN THIS WELL IN A YEAR. MY POINT IS THAT IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS, AND THEY TELL YOU IT LOOKS FINE, INSIST ON THE SWITCH REPLACEMENT. THIS GUY CHARGED ME $180 (AND THAT INCLUDED AN OIL CHANGE) AND IT WOULD HAVE SAVED ME TIME, MONEY AND SOME VERY SCARY SITUATIONS HAD HONDA DONE THAT TO BEGIN WITH! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN INCREMENT WEATHER. THE CONTACT LOST POWER STEERING AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE IGNITION DEFECT ADDRESSED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 157,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 1999 WHILE WORKING AS A SALESMAN FOR A HONDA DEALERSHIP.ITS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AS IT IS THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION I HAVE.I NO LONGER WORK AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT MY LITTLE BOY NEEDS A WAY TO GET TO VARIOUS ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS SCHOOL.WE DEPEND ON THIS MACHINE AND HONDAS REPUTATION TO GET THINGS DONE.AROUND 76000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT HARD AND NOT WANT TO GO INTO GEAR. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY, MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF AND HAD TO PULL OVER THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY IT WAS NOT BUSY, BUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT LATELY. THAT MEANS I DON'T HAVE A CAR. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THEY HAVE A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. AT FIRST I CHANGED THE MAIN RELAY TO A BRAND NEW ONE FROM HONDA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A HONDA SWITCH RECALL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON HIS VEHICLE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND IT COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE HAD BEEN STALLING FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, BUT ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. HOWEVER, WITHIN THE PAST MONTH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS HE WAS DRIVING. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THEREFORE, THEY WERE NO LONGER CLAIMING ANY RESPONSIBILITY. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *JB
