TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS YET THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX TIMES. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) BUT THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THAT HIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
HORN BUTTON NEEDS REPAIR BUT IS INTEGRAL TO A VERY EXPENSIVE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, MAKING THE HORN REPAIR FINANCIALLY UNACHIEVABLE, RESULTING IN CONSUMERS DRIVING CARS WITH INOPERABLE HORNS, VERY UNSAFE. *TR
WAS PASSING A CAR ON A RURAL ROAD AND THE VEHICLE JUST DIED THEN RESTARTED LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CAR COMING BUT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BAD LATER I FOUND OUT THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT THE DEALER TOLD ME IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY VIN NUMBER WELL... I SAY IT DOES! *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD V6 2 DR SOMETIMES STARTS AND NOT START. ONGOING ISSUE FOR 3 MONTHS. TOOK IT A HONDA DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TOLD VIA INTERNET IT MAY BE A MAIN RELAY, COIL OR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. WHAT'S SCARY IS HONDA HAS NO CLUE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. ALL RECALLS (2) HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. *TR
CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING... GOING 70MPH OR GOING 15MPH. ENGINE CLICKS OFF, LIGHTS STILL WORK BUT CAR ENGINE IS NO LONGER RUNNING. *TR
STARTING IN APRIL OF 2010, MY CAR STARTED STALLING AT "RANDOM" TIMES; THERE WAS NO RHYME OR REASON TO IT AND NO NOTICEABLE ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS. THE CAR WOULD SIMPLY STALL OR COMPLETELY CUT OUT ON ME IN AN INSTANT, WHETHER I WAS IDLING, STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MOST COMMONLY WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY IN TRAFFIC, BUT THREE TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. MOST OFTEN AFTER IT STALLED AND I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, IT WOULD START AGAIN IMMEDIATELY. HOWEVER, IT WAS ALSO COMMON FOR THE CAR TO STALL AND FOR IT TO TAKE 5-6 TRIES FOR IT TO RESTART. THIS STALLING OCCURRED NEARLY DAILY, MOST OFTEN ONCE BUT SOMETIMES 3-4 TIMES EACH DAY. I TOOK THE CAR INTO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP TWICE, IN MAY AND JUNE 2010, TO HAVE THIS STALLING LOOKED INTO, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE BOTH TIMES TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I FINALLY TOOK IT IN A 3RD TIME ON OCTOBER 11, 2010 AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD LX 4-DOOR SEDAN VEHICLE HAS AN UNWARRANTED ACCELERATION WHEN DRIVER TRIED TO SLOW IT DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION. SPECIFICALLY, THE DRIVER HIT THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A LARGE TREE. POLICE REPORTED THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, THE BRAKES WERE STILL DEPRESSED AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON BEFORE BEING TOWED AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT SCENE. *TR
MY POWER ASSISTED DRIVER'S SEAT BRACKET THAT ATTACHES THE SEAT BOTTOM TO THE SEAT BASE HAS FRACTURED BECAUSE OF THE WELD CONDITION OF BRACKET. MY SEAT WELD AT THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE SEAT BOTTOM NOW CAUSES THE SEAT TO ROCK WITH NO STABILITY. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WILL NOT HONOR THE PE02072 STATING THAT MY VIN NO. IS NOT IN THE RANGE AND THAT THE TIME PERIOD HAS EXPIRED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS WELD FAILURE THAT ODI SHOULD HOLD HONDA ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD KEEPS STALLING ON ME WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I'M ABLE TO RESTART IT AGAIN BUT IT CUTS OFF AGAIN. AFTER A FEW MORE ATTEMPTS IT WILL STAY RUNNING BUT WILL STALL AGAIN WITHOUT ANY SIGNS OF A PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE TRYING TO ENTER THE ENTRANCE OF THE FREEWAY. I'M LUCKY I WASN'T HIT FROM BEHIND...VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS IN THE CAR WITH YOU. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY HONDA DEALER THAT IT'S THE IGNITION SWITCH...A $400.00 PLUS COST TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL TURNED COMPLETELY TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION COLLAPSED AND CAUSED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO SINK TO THE GROUND. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, TIE ROD, AND PASSENGER SIDE AXLE WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A THIRD TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
1999 HONDA ACCORD 4DR AT WITH 77K MILES. WITHOUT WARNING, CAR STALLED WHEN DECELERATING ON FREEWAY OFF RAMP. "MAINT REQ" LIGHT CAME ON. POWER DOOR LOCKS CLICKED UP AND DOWN. ABLE TO SAFELY COME TO A STOP. CAR RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY. A FEW DAYS LATER, WHEN LEAVING MY WORKPLACE PARKING LOT, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN AFTER ABOUT 1 BLOCK, FORTUNATELY I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH. SAME SYMPTOMS -- MAINT REQ LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POWER DOOR LOCKS CLICKED UP AND DOWN. RESTARTED CAR RIGHT AWAY. LOCAL MECHANIC COULD NOT REPLICATE ISSUE, BUT SUGGESTED REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH DUE TO SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED. I HAD HIM PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT, EVEN THROUGH IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL IN SEPT 2005 WHEN CAR HAD ABOUT 35K MILES. *TR
CAR DIED AS IF SOMEONE TURNED THE KEY OFF. FIRST 5 TIMES IT WAS WHILE SLOWING DOWN. LAST TIME ON 2/7/11 WAS GOING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF TRAFFIC WHEN IT JUST QUIT RUNNING AS IF I TURNED THE KEY OFF. IT WAS DUE TO FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. HONDA CLAIMS THAT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL FOR THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM, HOWEVER, MANY HONDA'S OF THAT YEAR AND OTHER YEARS WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR ANOTHER PART OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM THAT COVERED MY YEAR AND MODEL. THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM.
THE PROBLEM IS THE CLEAR COAT IS PEELING ON ALMOST ALL OF THE BODY PARTS AND LOOKS ATROCIOUS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. TH DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH ) AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 205,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE JUST QUITS. THERE IS NO STUTTERING, STALLING, OR ENGINE MISFIRES, IT QUIETLY JUST QUITS. THE RADIO, HEATER FAN, BRAKE LIGHTS STILL WORK BUT NOT THE SIGNAL LIGHTS NOR THE DASHBOARD INDICATORS. AFTER A FEW HOURS TROUBLESHOOTING, I REALIZED THAT IF I WIGGLE THE LOWER OF FIVE WIRES ON THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATOR WILL RETURN TO FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE CAR WILL THEN BE ABLE TO START. WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, IF I WIGGLE THE SAME WIRE, THE ENGINE AND INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL NOT OPERATE. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD REPEATEDLY HAS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. SYMPTOMS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THOSE SURROUNDING PREVIOUS RECALL SUGGESTING AN IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. LOCAL DEALER INDICATED THE RECALL SERVICE WAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE IGNITION SWITCH MOVES AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND IT TOOK FIVE MINUTES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH). THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 142,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE RPMS DECREASED TO ZERO AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I HAVE 91,000 MILES ON MY HONDA ACCORD LX 99 YEAR MODEL. I HAVE MAINTAINED IT VERY WELL WITH REGULAR CHECK UPS AND SERVICES. TRANSMISSION ON MY CAR BEHAVES SO ERRATIC AND ITS BEYOND MY CONTROL. IT SUDDENLY STOPS IN MIDDLE OF DRIVE AND I AM AFRAID OF SOMEONE HITTING ME FROM BEHIND BECAUSE OF THIS NATURE OF MY CAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE JUST QUITS. THERE IS NO STUTTERING, STALLING, OR ENGINE MISFIRES, IT QUIETLY JUST QUITS. IMAGINE PASSING A CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, NO ENGINE!!!! THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS FOR US AND SEES TO HAPPEN REGULARLY ON WARMER DAYS, BUT OCCURS EITHER DRIVING 70MPH ON THE FREEWAY OR JUST TURNING THE CAR INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE SITUATION IS THAT VERY SITUATION TO THE CASE AT HTTP://WWW.VISUALIMPRESSIONS.CA/SWITCH/ AND WE'RE PLANNING TO GET THE SWITCHES REPLACED. I WAS GOING TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY TO GET THE CAR LOOKED AT AND FIXED BY GUESSWORK WITHOUT REALIZING IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE HONDA MODEL. WE OWN A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX. PLEASE SHARE THIS DEFECT WITH OTHER CONSUMERS OF THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS VERY INCONVENIENT AND DANGEROUS FOR US. TO RESTART THE CAR WHILE IN MOTION, I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN THE KEY TO START UP RISKING THE CAR MORE BY HAVING A HORRIBLE SCRATCHING SOUND. LUCKILY THIS WORKS IN THE MEANTIME WHILE I FIND THE WIRES, HOWEVER I WISH I'D KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECT AHEAD OF TIME. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH) WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INFORMED HIM THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
I HAVE A 99 ACCORD EX. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR STALLING AT ANY SPEED . AFTER SEEING ALL THE PROBLEMS ONLINE AND THEIR OWN TECH'S TELLING ME IT IS AN IGNITION SWITCH , I THOUGHT THEY WOULD HELP. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA MANY TIMES AND THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. I KNOW OF THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT THEY SAID MY ACCORD IS NOT ON THE LIST. I HAVE WORKED FOR HONDA FOR 15 YEARS AND ALWAYS BACKED THERE CARS BUT THAT DIDN'T MATTER TO THEM, I GUESS THAT'S HOW THEY TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES. I'D RATHER HAVE A TOYOTA . *TR

VEHICLE SHIFTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING....HAD SWITCH REPLACED AND STILL STOPS WHILE DRIVING INTERMITTENTLY. UPON INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE ISSUED FOR THIS EXACT ITEM IN JUNE 2002 (AND THE RECALL ITEM WAS FIXED BY PREVIOUS OWNER IN OCTOBER 2002. THE DEALER AND HONDA OF AMERICA BOTH TOLD ME THAT IF THE RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED, THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE, EVEN THOUGH EVIDENTLY THE REPAIR HAS THE SAME DEFECT ORIGINALLY IDENTIFIED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX AND WHILE PASSING A TRANSPORT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED AT 140KM/HR. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL BUT IT DIDN'T START,SO AS WE SLOWED DOWN ANOTHER TRANSPORT WHICH WAS COMING UP BEHIND US TO PASS THE SLOWER TRANSPORT AS WELL THEN STARTED HONKING THE HORN AND WE COULD NOTHING BUT WAIT TILL THE TRANSPORT WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO PASS GOT FURTHER AHEAD OF US SO WE COULD PULL OVER TO SHOULDER AND ALLOW THE TRANSPORT BEHIND US TO GET BY. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SCARY SITUATION. THE CAR DID RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. WE HAD JUST HAD THE IGNITION CHANGED UNDER THE RECALL ABOUT TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS. WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 SOUTH BOUND ALL OF SUDDEN MY CAR (1999 HONDA ACCORD) STALLED, IMMEDIATELY I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND MOVED TO THE SHOULDER, I REALIZED THIS WAS AN ISSUES WITH MY IGNITION SWITCH. I COULD HOLD THE IGNITION KEY AND DRIVE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HE TOOK ME TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH. HE GAVE ME TEMPORARY FIX THAT WOULD GET ME HOME AND I COULD TALK TO MY HONDA DEALER. THE ISSUE IS IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND IF WAS FIXED (NEXT MY DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY RECALL WAS FIXED) WHY DID IT OCCUR AGAIN. WAS THE FIX DONE DURING THE RECALL WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH? IS THERE A REALLY AN PROBLEM WITH IGNITION SWITCH? I HAD THE CAR FIXED AT THE DEALER AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ENGINE AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SHUT OFF. IT WAS DETERMINED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD. IT HAD BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY UNDER RECALL. DEALER REFUSED TO FIX AGAIN WITHOUT PAYMENT. THIS HAZARD PRESENTS A POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY OR WORSE. *TR
OCCASIONALLY THE CAR HAS DIED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS OR INTERSTATE. THE TACH DROPS IMMEDIATELY TO ZERO AND I THINK ALL OR MOST OF THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON LIKE THEY WOULD WITH THE KEY IN THE START POSITION. WHEN I TRY TO RESTART THE CAR, IT STARTS AND RUNS FOR ABOUT ONE SECOND THEN DIES AGAIN. SOMETIMES, IT WILL TAKE FOUR OR MORE ATTEMPTS BEFORE IT WILL KEEP RUNNING LIKE NORMAL. IT DOES THIS WHEN THE CAR IS COLD OR HOT AND HAS DONE THIS IN INTERSECTIONS. MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION SHIFTS BADLY. WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1ST AND SECOND GEAR IT JUMPS BADLY AND SOMETIMES WONT SHIFT AT ALL. AND EVEN FROM SECOND TO THIRD IT DOES IT TOO. AFTER I'M IN THE HIGHER GEARS IT SHIFTS BETTER. BUT IN THOSE EARLY GEARS MY CAR IS DANGEROUS. I'M AFRAID IT MIGHT COMPLETELY STOP WORKING ONE DAY. THE DEALER SEEMED FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM AND RECOGNIZED IT AS BEING RELATED TO A 2002 RECALL OF THE 1999 ACCORD V6. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE WIRING ASSOCIATED WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN FIXED IN THE RECALL. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2010, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE BATTERY, ABS AND DOOR LIGHTS SUDDENLY DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CARE WAS DRIVING FINE AFTER THIS BUT ABOUT A MILE LATER, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I NOTICED THE DRIVE BELTS HAD COME OFF. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CONTACTED TO TOW THE CAR TO THE NEAREST LOCATION WITHIN 15MILES. HENCE, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MY DESTINATION, THEN EVENTUALLY TOWED TO RICHFIELD-BLOOMINGTON HONDA WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT KEY WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY CAUSING THE PULLEY TO BE WOBBLY FORCING THE BELTS TO COME OFF WHILE DRIVING. BROOKDALE HONDA PERFORMED THE MAINTENANCE REPAIR THAT HAS BEEN LINKED TO THIS INCIDENT SINCE THE CRANK SHAFT BOLT WAS NOT TIGHTENED TO THE RIGHT TORQUE. THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF TECHNICIAN ERROR. *TR
