TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAITED FIFTEEN MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE; THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED NORMAL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
EXPERIENCED IN MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD SUDDEN EXTREME ACCELERATION ON 12/14/2009 CAUSING MAJOR ACCIDENT ON COMMACK ROAD, COMMACK, NY WHICH INVOLVED SEVERAL CARS, CAR DRIVEN FROM MASS. PARK, NY TO GRAND STREET, MANHATTAN TO PICKUP MOTHER-IN-LAW AND AIDE TO BRING TO EYE SPECIALIST IN BETHPAGE, NY, RETURNING HER TO HER HOME, BACK TO COMMACK FOR WIFE'S JOB. I TOOK CAR TO DO SOME SHOPPING, CAR STARTEDTO ACCELERATE ON LIE SIDE RIDE, ULTIMATELY LOOSING CONTROL. UNCERTAIN WHAT INJURIES OCCURRED, BUT NO DEATHS! HEARD OF OTHER INCIDENTS WITH HONDAS, 2005 ACCORD. NO INJURIES. SPOKE TO DRIVER. HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A 'GLITCH' AFTER TEST RIDE. ANOTHER STORY, TOO. *TR
THE SEAT BRACKET ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD BROKE AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE02072. HONDA REFUSED TO REPAIR THE SEAT AND DENIED THAT THERE WAS EVER A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND RADIO FAILED, AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM;IGNITION:SWITCH) IS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, AN AUTHORIZED DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
MY SON'S 1999 HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT IGNITION FAILURE, FORCING HIM TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY, AND THEN ATTEMPT TO RE-START THE CAR. THIS OCCURRED RANDOMLY OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT A MONTH, AND WAS VERY UNSAFE. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 117,000 MILES ON IT, AND WAS SUBJECT TO AN EARLIER RECALL CAMPAIGN 02-031, WHICH RESULTED IN CHANGING THE IGNITION SWITCH SEVERAL YEARS AGO AT ABOUT 52,000 MILES. NOW THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH FAILED. HE TOOK IT TO HONDA OF EL CERRITO IN THE BAY AREA AND THEY CHARGED HIM ABOUT $100 AND TOLD HIM THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED AN IGNITION SWITCH FROM A DISCOUNT HONDA PARTS SUPPLIER OVER THE INTERNET FOR ABOUT $50, AND REPLACED IT MYSELF. I FOUND SEVERAL INTERNET WEB SITES THAT DESCRIBED THIS PROBLEM IN DETAIL, AND I FEEL THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. I HAVE A 99 ACCORD AND A 92 CIVIC WHICH BOTH EXPERIENCED IGNITION SWITCH FAILURES, SO I HAD A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHAT WAS GOING WRONG, EVEN IF THE DEALER WAS NOT BEING VERY SMART ABOUT IT. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS. I WISH THE DEALERS WERE MORE HELPFUL. I SPOKE WITH AMERICAN HONDA IN TORRANCE, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AS PART OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN, THAT IF THE PART FAILED AGAIN, IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE AN IGNITION SWITCH THAT HOLDS UP LONGER THAN 50,000-60,000 MILES? THE LAST TIME IT FAILED WAS WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA ON HIGHWAY 50 ON OCTOBER 24, 2009. THE FIRST TIME IT FAILED WAS AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH. *TR
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF DURING DRIVING, THEN DIFFICULT TO START AGAIN. UNTIL REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION, THEN PUT BACK AND RETRY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT HAS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE GAS PEDAL IS VERY STIFF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE PEDAL IS HAVING A HARD TIME ENGAGING AT FIRST AND THEN AS THE VEHICLE WARMS THE PEDAL RESETS AND THE PEDAL WORKS PROPERLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AT NORTH LOOP 1604 WEST ON 9/26/09, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. I HAD TO SIT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND STRUGGLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN AND HOPE NO ONE CAME BEHIND ME. WHILE DRIVING ON UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, THE ENGINE STALLED OUT OF THE BLUE. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 6 TIMES PER DAY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON BUSY CITY STREETS. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE EXTREME STRESS AND FEAR FOR MINE AND OTHERS' SAFETY BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN THIS VEHICLE WILL JUST STOP ON ME. WHILE IT MAY BE TRUE THAT NOT ALL OF THOSE RECALLS MAY APPLY TO THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD THAT I DRIVE, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V120000 IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY CAR WHEN I AM DRIVING IT. *TR
A WELL MAINTAINED AND CARED FOR AUTO. ITS PAINT CAME OFF, OR IS DAMAGED. DAMAGE APPEARS AS THREE EACH SIX INCH WIDE STRIPES RUNNING THE LENGTH OF CAR. SIDE PANELS OF CAR NOT EFFECTED AND PAINT IN GOOD CONDITION . *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH MODULE WAS REPLACED PER THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT PART FAILED, TOO. THE IGNITION MODULE WAS REPLACED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE UNWARRANTLY ACCELERATED, CAUSING HIM TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE FAILURE HE SUSTAINED SEVERE BODILY INJURIES.THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 200,000.
YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH IS CAUSING SEVERE CHATTERING AND/OR LURCHING WHEN STARTING UP OR AT LOW SPEED. CAR IS NEAR STALL AND IS VULNERABLE TO AN ACCIDENT ESPECIALLY AT INTERSECTIONS AFTER A STOP. CAR HAS ONLY 83,000 MILES. *TR

I AM THE OWNER OF A 99 HONDA ACCORD COUPE AND HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR FAILING TO START IN CERTAIN TYPES OF WEATHER AND THE LONGER I'VE HAD THE CAR THE MORE THE PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED AND IT IS NOW STALLING WHILE I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, INCLUDING YESTERDAY WHEN I HAD MY 4 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN ON HONDA'S WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE RECALLS AND MINE HAVE BEEN FIXED LONG BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I AM STILL HAVING THE PROBLEMS I'VE CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY SEEM TO BE VERY UNWILLING TO HELP ME FURTHER AND SO I AM STUCK AT THIS POINT WITH A VEHICLE I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE BECAUSE I'D BE PUTTING MYSELF, MY DAUGHTER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD IN DANGER. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TAKE JABS IN THE DARK REPLACING PARTS THAT DON'T NEED REPLACED ESPECIALLY AFTER I'VE HAD TO PAY TO HAVE IT TOWED TWICE NOW (NOT CHEAP). I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WONDER WHETHER OR NOT A CAR THAT IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND UNDER 100,000 MILES IS GOING TO START OR NOT. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT WILL MOVE SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECEIVE HELP FROM ANYONE ELSE. IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING, A RECALL OF THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS COMPLETED IN 2002 FOR SIMILAR PROBLEM. NHTSA #02V120000 THE VEHICLE IS NOW EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL, I CONTACTED HONDA USA ON 08/11/2009 TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY REPAIR A RECALLED ITEM ONCE. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH IS ALSO DEFECTIVE AND CREATES A DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION, I WOULD HOPE NHTSA WOULD LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO HONDA'S LACK OF CONCERN FOR THEIR PARTS AND REPAIRS. *TR
MY CAR BEGAN QUITTING WHILE DRIVING MAY 2009, HOWEVER, IT WOULD IMMEDIATELY START AGAIN. 06/2009-7/2009 WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE IGNITION, THE DASHBOARD WOULD FLICKER. AFTER A FEW TRIES, THE CAR WOULD START BUT THEN QUIT. ON 8/4/2009, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR QUIT AGAIN BUT THEN SMOKE CAME FROM BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL ( STEERING COLUMN AREA). SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE CAR QUIT. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL BY TURNING THE IGNITION FORWARD. HOWEVER WHEN TURNING IT BACKWARDS IT WOULD TRY TO CRANK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO AND NOW CURRENTLY SITS AT BLUEGRASS HONDA IN PADUCAH, KY. ACCORDING TO HONDA, IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH I FOUND WAS UNDER RECALL BUT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED IN 2002. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS TRUE BECAUSE HERE I HAVE THE VERY PROBLEM THAT THE RECALL ACKNOWLEDGED. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT ON A RECALL,HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME $200.00. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. JUST FOUND OUT TODAY FROM MY MECHANIC DURING AN OIL CHANGE THAT OIL WAS LEAKING INTO MY ANTIFREEZE COMPONENT. AS A MATTER OF FACT, MY OIL CHAMBER WAS NEAR-EMPTY AND MY ANTIFREEZE COMPONENT WAS BLACK AND FULL OF OIL. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE HAD SEEN OTHER CASES OF THIS IN THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL WHERE THE ENGINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
1. CAR SHUTS OFF SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE IDLING AND WHEN MOVING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. 2. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL IN 2002 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS AT THE TIME BUT THE WORK TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DONE IN 2002. CAR BEGAN PROBLEMS EARLY IN 2009 WITH 125,000 MILES AT RANDOM INTERVALS. NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED BUT STILL A VERY SCARY INCIDENT. 3. SINCE THE RECALL WORK HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE MAIN RELAY AFTER DIAGNOSIS SHOWED NOTHING FOR A TOTAL OF $212. ANOTHER FAILURE OCCURRED THE VERY SAME DAY SO I RETURNED TO DEALER AND GOT THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED AT A COST OF $146. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX CAR STALLS RANDOMLY. *TR
ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR TO BREACH IN THE ENGINE DUE TO A POROUS ENGINE. I HAD TO HAVE A NEW2 ENGINE PUT IN CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. THE POWER STEERING ALSO FAILED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE RPMS AND ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES WOULD BECOME INOPERABLE UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD GAIN POWER ON ITS OWN. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER; THEREFORE, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 130,000.
I OWN A 4 CYLINDER 4 DOOR 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX. THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT REASON IN JUNE OF 2009. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES. EACH TIME THEY RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE LIGHT WILL THEN TURN OFF WITHOUT ILLUMINATING THE CAUSE. SHORTLY AFTER PICKING THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALER, THE LIGHT WILL TURN BACK ON. THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY AS LONG AS THE LIGHT IS ON. I BOUGHT A HONDA BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT THEY HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE SEATBELTS BUT NOT THE AIRBAGS. THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN USED. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS REPLACE THE AIRBAGS. THIS WILL COST CLOSE TO $1000. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. EVEN IF I CHOOSE TO START REPLACING THE UNIT, IT WON'T GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. THEY DON'T KNOW THE REASON THAT THE SRS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. IT SHOULD BE HONDA'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT OBVIOUSLY WASN'T CAUSED BY ME, THE CONSUMER. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. NOW PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE IS CAUSING PROBLEMS. THIS ISSUE WITH 1999 V-6 AUTOMATICS IS DOCUMENTED EVERYWHERE. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE AWARE THE ISSUE IS WIDE SPREAD AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS A WIDE SPREAD DEFECT AND THE NHTSA SHOULD PUT SOME PRESSURE ON HONDA TO STEP-UP. A WELL MAINTAINED ENGINE SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 90K MILES ON THIS HONDA. WHILE CHANGING MY BRAKES, I NOTICED SIGNIFICANT RUSE ON THE VEHICLE SUB-FRAME. IT IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NEAR THE REAR OF THE FRONT TIRE. THE SUB-FRAME COMPONENT IS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE TOP SIDE, LEAVING ONLY THE LOWER PORTION OF IT HOLDING THE ENGINE AND SUSPENSION IN PLACE. ON THE WAY HOME, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO A TRANS REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CHECKED THE TROUBLE CODE TO BE THE SAME P0740 CODE. THEY CHECKED THE RESISTANCE OF ALL THE SOLENOIDS AND REPLACED THE LINEAR SOLENOID WHICH WAS OUT OF SPEC. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN ON THE DRIVE HOME. I HAD IT SCANNED AGAIN AND THE CODE WAS P0740 AGAIN. THE TRANS SHOP SAID THAT THEY MAY EVENTUALLY NEED TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND MAY COST AROUND $3500-4000. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT $400 SO FAR. I NOW DRIVE THE CAR SPARINGLY UNTIL I CAN HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET A REBUILT TRANS. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN RUN OVER BY OTHER MOTORIST TRYING TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. I CONTACTED HONDA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY CAR AND TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE THE IGNITION SWITCH. SO I IMMEDIATELY CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE NEXT DAY THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TUMBLER FOR THE KEY HAD BEEN RECALLED AND WAS REPLACED BACK IN 2003. I BOUGHT A NEW KEY AS THE OLD KEY WAS WORN AND THE CAR DID NOT STALL FOR OVER 2 MONTHS BUT YESTEDAY CAR STALLED OVER 3 TIMES. I HAVE HAD A DIAGNOSITIC DONE WHICH SAID IT IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH MY MECHANIC SAYS IS TOTALLY UNREALATED TO THE STALLING PROBLEM. BUT I PLAN TO HAVE A NEW ONE INSTALLED SOON. YESTERDAY MY WIFE HAD THE CAR ON THE CITY OF MEMPHIS BUSIEST STREET WHEN IT STALLED WITH HER IN THE CENTER LANE WITHOUT ANY WARNING BY THE INDICATOR LIGHTS. SHE CALLED ME FRANTIC TELLING ME THAT ALMOST EVERY CAR PASSING HER NEARLY HIT HER. I CALLED THE POLICE TO HELP GET TRAFFIC CONTROL TO HELP HER. SHE AS A FEW OTHERS HAVE INDICATED COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO SHIFT GEARS TO NEUTRAL WHILE STALLED. FINALLY AFTER SITTING 10 MINUTES SHE WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR. THE DEALER SWITCHED OUT THE IGNITION SWITCH AT A COST OF $300 ON TOP OF THE $75 DIAGNOSTIC AT THE DEALER ONE MONTH AGO AND A $49 DIAGNOSTIC AT A SMALL SERVICE STATION NOT TO MENTION THE SENSORS THAT WERE SWITCHED OUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA INDICATING THAT THIS PROBLEM IS A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE WHICH THEY SHOULD REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE.
