JUNE 2015: TORQUE CONVERTER: CAR WHEN ACCELERATING SLAMMED OUT OF GEAR AND FELT LIKE WE HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. RADIO: RADIO SYSTEM BACK LIGHT BROKE AT 60,000 MILES CURRENT ISSUE: GEAR SHIFT KNOB FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING. DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING CAR AND BUMPED GEAR SHIFT AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING. CALLED HONDA COMPLAINT LINE TO COMPLAIN AND THERE WAS NO ACTION OR CONCERN REGARDING THE CURRENT ISSUE OF THE GEAR SHIFT KNOB.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V370000 (AIR BAGS) AND 15V320000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN AUGUST 2015 FOR THE AIRBAGS. AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED, WHEN I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES FROM THE DEALER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SO I CALLED THE DEALER ON MY WAY HOME AND TOLD THE SERVICE TECH THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON AND HE SAID TO BRING IT BACK IN THE MORNING. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALER, THE LIGHT HAD WENT OFF. AND THEY STATED IT HAD TO BE ON BEFORE THEY COULD EVEN LOOK AT IT! SO FOR THE PAST 3 WEEKS I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH THIS LIGHT STAYING ON, THEN GOING OFF FOR 10 MINUTES THEN COMING BACK ON. I DON'T THINK MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE LIGHT WASN'T ON WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND NOW IT'S ON? SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT!
DRIVER'S SIDE AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY SNAPPED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THIS OCCURRED WHEN I WAS TAKING A SLOW LEFT TURN.
I HAVE A 2003 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN. IN AUG 2015, I HAD BEEN NOTICING A WHEEZING, STRAINING SOUND WHEN I TURNED MY CAR WHILE DRIVING. IT BECAME HARDER TO TURN AS WELL. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID, AND IT WAS EMPTY. I GOT THE APPROPRIATE POWER STEERING FLUID SPECIFICALLY FOR HONDAS AND REFILLED IT. IN SEPT 2015, ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE MORNING, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. IT IS A 10 MINUTE COMMUTE FOR ME THROUGH THE CITY STREETS. THE SMOKE BEGAN WHEN I WAS OUTSIDE MY WORK AT A STOPLIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE PARKING LOT WHEN I REALIZED THE UNDERSIDE OF MY HOOD HAD CAUGHT FIRE. (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS) THAT DAY, I GOT IT TO THE MECHANIC, AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE CRACKS IN THE POWER STEERING AND FLUID WAS EVERYWHERE UNDER MY HOOD, ALL OVER MY ENGINE. DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I SAW A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, WITH MY EXACT CAR: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# IS: 12V222000; MAY 17, 2012. IT STATES THAT "PROLONGED UNDER HOOD AND POWER STEERING FLUID TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO DETERIORATE PREMATURELY, RESOLING IN CRACKS AND POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKAGE. IF THIS OCCURS, POWER STEERING FLUID CAN LEAD ONTO A HOT CATALYTIC CONVERTER, LEADING TO SMOKE AND UNDER HOOD FIRE." WHEN I CALLED INTO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO CONFIRM MY CAR APPLIED TO THIS RECALL, THEY SAID IT DID NOT. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS EXACT PROBLEM CAN EXIST FOR MY CAR, BUT MY CAR NOT BE LISTED AS EFFECTED. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY SAY, MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR THE SAME REASON HONDA RECALLED 625,762 OTHER VEHICLES FOR POWER STEERING DEFECTS. AS I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THE POWER STEERING, I WAS HOWEVER FORCED TO REPLACE THE BELT THAT IS CLOSEST TO THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR (SEE PHOTOS), BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN BURNED AND MANGLED. NEARLY $200 JUST FOR THE BELT.
TAKATA RECALL: I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE TAKATA AIRBAG IN MY CAR IS NOT BEING RECALLED "AT THIS TIME." AS I WAS TOLD BY HONDA IN TORRENCE. "AT THIS TIME" IS A LOUSY ANSWER AND I HARDLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE OUT OF FEAR. IT IS 2003 AND I HAVE 51,000 MILES ON IT. I LIKE THIS CAR BUT I AM BEING TREATED LIKE MY LIFE IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING. I WANT AN ANSWER AS TO WHY MY TAKATA AIRBAG IS NOT BEING REPLACED. PERHAPS THE MEDIA CAN HELP ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE DIVIDER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE HIS FACE WAS SWOLLEN AND HIS NOSE BONE WAS CRACKED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED HIS FACE WAS WOUNDED BY THE SHRAPNEL THAT CAME OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG. THE POLICE WERE PRESENT, BUT A REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY AND WAS TOWED TO A SCRAP YARD. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET THE AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL DONE. WHEN THE DEALER (AUTONATION HONDA 2999 WEST 104TH AVE. WESTMINSTER, CO 80234) ADVISED ME THE CAR WAS READY TO PICK UP AND THE SAFETY RECALL WAS COMPLETE...THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I POINTED THIS OUT TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THEY MADE THE REPAIR, BUT THEY WILL CHARGE ME TO TURN THE LIGHT OFF (AN ADDITIONAL $99 FOR AN ALLEGED NO CHARGE SAFETY RECALL). THE WARNING LIGHT ADVISES THE DRIVER THE VEHICLE IS SAFE, OR NOT SAFE. RIGHT NOW THE LIGHT ADVISES THE DRIVE THE REPAIR IS NOT COMPLETE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE REPAIR WAS DONE TO SAFETY STANDARD WITH THE LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE FACTORY INSTALLED RADIO, COMPONENTS AND BACK LIGHT DEFECT ISSUES. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED RECENTLY, THE CD PLAYER WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE RADIO BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. THE RADIO WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE BOTH THE RADIO, ALL COMPONENTS AND VEHICLE WERE TURNED OFF AND THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START THE NEXT MORNING. ON TWO OCCASIONS AFTER DRIVING, THE CONSUMER SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR FIVE MINUTES AND IT WOULD NOT RE-START. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND IT WAS ALL BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE RADIO. A MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THEY HAD RECENTLY COME ACROSS NUMEROUS 2003-2007 VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE WAY HONDA INSTALLED AND MOUNTED THE RADIO, COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT THE BRAINS OF THE RADIO WAS DEFECTIVE, THEREFORE DRAINING THE BATTERY AND CAUSING THE RADIO AND BACK LIGHT TO FAIL. THE BACK LIGHT WORKED OCCASIONALLY AND THEN STOPPED ILLUMINATING. UPDATED 05/04/16*LJ *JS *JS
PURSUANT TO RECALL NOTICE ISSUED BY AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. (DATED JULY 2015) REGARDING DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG INFLATOR, THE REFERENCED VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER WHERE AT THE REPLACEMENT DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG INFLATOR WAS INSTALLED. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT, THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON MOST OF THE TIME. SOMETIMES IT GOES OFF AFTER STARTING BUT THEN COMES ON WHILE DRIVING. IT'S NOT ONLY DISTRACTING, BUT FRIGHTENING NOT KNOWING WHETHER THE INFLATOR WILL DETONATE. IT'S ALSO UNNERVING HAVING TO DRIVE WITHOUT AN AIRBAG SYSTEM AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL. CAN WE HAVE THE OLD INFLATOR PUT BACK IN, AT LEAST THERE WOULD BE A FUNCTIONING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
DRIVING AT APPROX 50-55 MPH, MY CAR SUDDENLY AND ABRUPTLY JERKED SEVERAL TIMES, LIKE A SUDDEN HARD BRAKE, THEN LET LOOSE. DID THIS INTERMITTENTLY A FEW TIMES THEN NO MORE ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE IT, IT DID ONE HARD SUDDEN JERK, SO I PULLED OVER. THE CAR DID NOT MOVE IN DRIVE AFTER THAT, HAD TO BE TOWED, SINCE THE FRONT AXLE BROKE FROM THE SUDDEN JERKING. THE JERKING OR BRAKING, AS IT SEEMED, WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AS IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD THROW ME OFF THE ROAD OR SOMEONE FROM BEHIND WOULD HIT ME. THE CAR'S TIRES SQUEALED BECAUSE IT JERKED SO HARD AND IT WOULD THROW MY HEAD AGAINST THE HEAD REST. VERY FRIGHTENING AT 55 MILES AN HOUR!! I TOOK IT IN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE CLUTCH WAS SENDING DEBRIS INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IT TO PLUG UP AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS TRYING TO GO INTO 2 GEARS AT THE SAME TIME CAUSING IT TO STOP SUDDENLY, THEN LET LOOSE. IT DOES THIS AFTER ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES OF DRIVING WHEN IT HAS WARMED UP THE FLUIDS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REBUILT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A RECALL ISSUE, AS THIS IS COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE THEY SAID. COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE DEATH OR INJURY IF IT HAPPENS ON ICY ROADS OR IN TRAFFIC!! THANKFULLY I DID NOT HAVE TO DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY AND THAT IT IS NOT WINTER, BECAUSE IT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE THROWN ME INTO ANOTHER CAR OR ANOTHER CAR HIT ME FROM BEHIND OR LOST CONTROL ON AN ICY ROADWAY AND SPUN INTO THE DITCH OR WORSE, BEEN KILLED!! IT VERY MUCH SCARED THE MECHANIC WHEN HE DROVE IT ALSO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
I WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN I HIT THE TRUCK. MY CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE FRONT HOOD IS BENT DOWN TO THE ENGINE AND MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. MY CHEST AND MY FACE HIT THE STEERING WHEELS GOOD THING I HAVE MY TWO HAND ON THE STEERING WHEELS.
THE CAR IS SHIFTING WHILE IN MOTION. TRANSMISSION JUMPS WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR. CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. CERTIFIED TECHICIAN ADVISED US NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE MAIN ROAD AND I HEARD A NOISE, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED, I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, THE HAND BRAKES DID NOT WORK EITHER, WAS VERY SCARY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT SUDDENLY STOPPED ON ME. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE. I AM SCARED FOR MY SAFETY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULD HAVE ENDED UP IN A BIG ACCIDENT LIKE THE ONE THAT RECENTLY HAPPENED IN SEATTLE TO THE "DUCK TOURIST BUS" BECAUSE OF A BROKEN AXLE. I CONTACTED HONDA ABOUT THIS ISSUE, MENTIONED ABOUT MY CONCERNS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE, BUT THEY DID NOT CARE.

IN JULY OF 2015, I WENT OUTSIDE TO START MY CAR AND ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT MY CAR WON'T START. AFTER TRYING FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND A DAY LATER, I WENT BACK TO TRY AGAIN, MY CAR FINALLY STARTED. FEW DAYS AFTER THAT INCIDENT, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND IT WON'T START UNTIL AFTER TWO DAYS OF TRYING AND IT FINALLY STARTED. THE MOST RESENT TIME WAS ON AUGUST 4, 2015 IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA WHILE ABOUT TO LEAVE, I GOT INTO MY CAR AND START IT, IT WON'T START. I SAT THERE TRYING FOR TWO HOURS BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTED.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKING FLUID PRODUCING AN ENGINE FIRE HAZARD BY SPRAYING FLUID ON HOT ENGINE PARTS AND/OR TOTAL FAILURE OF POWER STEERING. THE LEAK OCCURS ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING EITHER PARKED OR MOVING.
CHECKING ON AIR BAG RECALL
HI! AS YOU CAN SEE, I AM AN OWNER OF A HONDA ACCORD 2003. I HAVE RECENTLY TAKEN IT FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. WHILE I WAS DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS SPECIFIC YEAR AND MODEL, HAD SOME OTHER ISSUES OR RECALLS TOO. FOR EXAMPLE, THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. HIS CAUGHT MY ATTENTION SINCE I THINK I DO HAVE A PROBLEM PROBABLY RELATED TO IT. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MAY LAST YEAR, FROM AN ACQUAINTANCE, AND SOON AFTER, I NOTICED A SHAKING IN THE GAS PEDAL, EVERY TIME I WAS ACCELERATING BETWEEN 25 TO 35 MPH (CITY AND HIGHWAY). THE SHAKING ALWAYS GO AWAY WHEN I STOP SPEEDING IT FOR A SECOND, AND THEN CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT FIRST, AND BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE TURN ON, I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC, AND I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC. WELL, I DID IT AND...THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. AM I IN DANGER HERE?. OK, I WILL WAIT FOR YOUR RESPONSE. IN THE MEANTIME, AS MIGHT UNDERSTAND, I WILL DOCUMENT THIS REQUEST, JUST IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION!!! *TR
THE PANEL BUTTONS ON THE AUDIO/HVAC UNIT ARE NOT ILLUMINATING WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE 2003 HONDA ACCORD ARE TURNED ON. I CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE (SVC BULLETIN 04-027). FOR THIS RECALL, THE WARRANTY EXTENSION COVERAGE IS 7 YEARS OR 105,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA TO INQUIRE ABOUT A "GOODWILL REPAIR" AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER COVERED BY THIS RECALL. THE RECALL IS BASED ON A COMPONENT FAILURE ON THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) AND HONDA SHOULD REPAIR THIS FAILURE PAST THE 7 YEAR OR 105,000 MILE MARK. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, BECAUSE YOU NEED TO TURN ON THE DOME LIGHT TO FIND THE CORRECT BUTTON OR KNOB ON THE AUDIO/HVAC UNIT AT NIGHT, SUCH AS THE FRONT OR REAR DEFROSTER BUTTONS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, ALL THE SUDDEN, IT VIOLENTLY DOWN SHIFTED, FELT LIKE I WAS REAR ENDED. AS I LET UP THE GAS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT NOT ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. LUCKILY NO OTHER CARS WERE BEHIND ME AT THE TIME. WHEN I GOT TO THE OFFICE, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V169000 (VISIBILITY). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE OWNED FOUR HONDAS AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED OR HEARD OF ISSUES LIKE THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CARS AND DO NOT DRIVE THEM HARD EITHER. I BOUGHT MY 03 ACCORD IN 2010 AND HAD NO IDEA THAT I WAS DRIVING WHAT IS TANTAMOUNT TO A TICKING TIME BOMB. ROUGHLY A MONTH AGO, MY TACH STARTED SLIPPING AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND CLUNKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE PROBLEMS DO NOT BEGIN AT A SET AMOUNT OF TIME BEHIND THE WHEEL. IT STARTS I THE LOWER GEARS AND I CAN TELL IT IS STARTING WHEN I DECREASE MY SPEED TO A STOP, AT 10 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR ?SHUDDERS? AND ?CLUNKS?. IT PROGRESSIVELY GETS WORSE AND THE HIGHER GEARS BECOME AFFECTED. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY, ON MY WAY HOME FROM AN APPOINTMENT IN THE MIDDLE LANE. I WAS TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 55 ? 60 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE ENTIRE CAR VIOLENTLY JERKED. IT WAS ENOUGH TO THROW MY HEAD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS NOW IN NEUTRAL. I BABIED THE CAR HOME AND CHECKED THE FLUID. IT WAS FINE. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT BEING WILLING TO BE INJURED OR WORSE. THE COST OF REPLACING OR REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT A POSSIBILITY. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT FIX AND CANNOT DRIVE. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT A CAR COMPANY THAT IS BUILT ON ITS RELIABILITY WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. DOES SOMEONE NEED TO DIE FIRST? I GUESS THAT I AM UNWILLING TO RISK GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A HONDA AGAIN. THE SCARIEST PART OF THIS WHOLE SITUATION WAS THAT I WAS GOING TO PUT MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THIS CAR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE?NOW.
PURCHASED 2003 HONDA ACCORD FROM A LOCAL CAR DEALER FOR $5,000.00 ON 4/8/15. PICKED UP TAGS, TITLE AND REGISTRATION ON 4/20 AND WAS PLANNING ON TAKING VEHICLE TO INSPECTION ON 5/2. ON 5/1/15 AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A WAWA PARKING LOT AT 20MPH AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THE DEALER PULLED UP HONDA RECALLS FOR 2003 HONDA ACCORDS AND ADVISED US TO TAKE THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER. WE THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO HONDA OF TURNERSVILLE. THEY INFORMED US THAT HONDA DID HAVE A RECALL BUT IT DID NOT PERTAIN TO THIS VIN#. SERIOUSLY???? I GOT AN ESTIMATE FROM THEM TO REPAIR WHICH WAS $3890.00 BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE THE LIABILITY. WE CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT 8 DAYS LATER. THE INSPECTOR SENT HIS REPORT TO CORPORATE AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. REALLY? SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE WE HAVE TRAVELLED A TOTAL 0F 429 MILES AND NOW IT APPEARS THAT WE ARE OUT THE $5,000.OO THAT WE SPENT FOR THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE NO CAR. WE ASKED FOR A COPY OF THE REPORT FROM THE HONDA INSPECTOR BUT WERE TOLD THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE ONE BECAUSE THEY CAME OUT AS A COURTESY.
ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR GET STOP THOUGH ENGINE WAS RUNNING ON HIGHWAY. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE WARNING. AUTO GEARS STARTED SLIPPING.
ON 7/21/15 I TOOK MY HONDA TO THE DEALER AT 9213 HARFORD ROAD, 21234, FOR SAFETY RECALL 15V-320 & 370, AND IT WAS REPAIRED. THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND THEY SCANNED FOR CODE AND SAID THAT THE SRS UNIT WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. A REPAIR PRICE WAS QUOTED OF $735. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND OUT THAT MANY OTHER HONDA OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WERE QUITE UPSET OVER THIS SAFETY MALFUNCTION. I WROTE A LETTER TO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ASKING FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE IN COVERING THE COST OF REPAIR OR "LIFETIME" WARRANTY COVERAGE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MAINTENANCE OF MY VEHICLE WHICH HAS ONLY 64,000 MILES. A REP RESPONDED BY PHONE AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE CAR WAS "OLD." WHETHER THE CAR IS OLDER OR NEW, THIS IS STILL A "SAFETY" PROBLEM THAT MANY OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE HONDA COMPANY OR THE NHTSA. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE ME A CODE NUMBER AFTER THE SCAN SO I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT WAS CORRECT. I REQUEST YOUR ASSISTANCE IN CHECKING OUT THE SAFETY ISSUE ON THE SRS UNITS IN THE HONDA ACCORD. I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE HAS BEEN HURT BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION, BUT IT COULD HAPPEN. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RECALL AND ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE UNIT, IF THAT IS THE CAUSE. I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND IN PEABODY, MASSACHUSETTS ON 128 ALMOST ON TO 95 WHEN AT CENTENNIAL DRIVE EXIT WHEN MY VEHICLE, WITHOUT WARNING, SLOWED FROM 60 MPH TO 30 MPH , I PUT ON HAZARDS AS CAR WENT FROM 30 MPH TO 10 MPH TO DEAD ALL IN A MATTER OF 45 SECONDS TOPS. IT WAS AROUND 12PM AND TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE TO HEAVY. CARS BEHIND ME WERE FORCED TO SLOW AT A SIGNIFICANT RATE, LUCKILY A PILE UP DID NOT OCCUR AS THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH A ACCIDENT WAS EXTREMELY POSSIBLE WITH ONE DRIVER NOT FULLY PRESENT I DON'T WANT TO IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES. I WAS ABLE TO SEMI SLIDE CAR INTO BREAKDOWN LANE SAFELY ENOUGH AND AAA CAME 1 HOUR LATTER AS THEY LISTED MY CALL A PRIORITY CALL.. I HAD CAR TOWED TO HOME TOWN AND MECHANIC WENT THROUGH CAR IN ITS ENTIRETY TO DISCOVER THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF TESTIMONIES FROM HONDA OWNERS REGARDING THEIR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS OCCURRING AROUND 126,213 MILES. I HAVE A RECALL ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAG. I HAVE CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN GRAND ISLAND NEBRASKA 7 TIMES AND TRIED SCHEDULING ONLINE 2 TIMES TO HAVE THE RECALL FIXED IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 90 DAYS NOW, AND I HAVE YET TO HAVE THEM CALL BACK WITH A APPOINTMENT. I DRIVE THIS CAR 45 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY DAILY AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE. THE LETTER I WAS SENT IN JANUARY 2015 SAID TO GIVE THE DEALERSHIP 60 DAYS TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I WAS ON AN OLD SIX-LANE HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEEDS WERE 45-50 MPH. MY CAR SUDDENLY FULLY ACCELERATED, JUST AS IF I HAD FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE IT TO A FULL STOP WITHOUT HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME OR GOING THROUGH A RED LIGHT AND FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT PART WAY ONTO A MEDIAN STRIP AND THROW IT INTO PARK AND THEN SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR. A PASSING TAXI DRIVER CHECKED THE ENGINE AND SAID THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK FULLY OPEN. HE WAS ABLE TO FIX THE THROTTLE AND DROVE THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY, WHERE I WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK. MY MECHANIC RAN COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR BUT COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. HE WAS ALSO UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM UNTIL ONE OF HIS STAFF EXPERIENCED IT WHILE BACKING UP THE CAR. THE ONLY THING HE COULD PROPOSE WAS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH DID NOT APPEAR TO NEED REPLACING. MY RESEARCHES LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A COMPUTER FAILURE. I NO LONGER OWN THE CAR. *TR
I CAME TO A STOP AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I STARTED UP, TAKING A RIGHT TURN, AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO HIGH RPMS AND LOUD CLINKING NOISES STARTED. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED IN THE INTERSECTION. PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT NEW NOISES STARTED, TRIED L1, SAME THING. HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND LEAVE IT AT THE INTERSECTION WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON, BUT CARS STILL WERE ALMOST REAR-ENDING ME. TOW TRUCK CAME 1.25 HOURS LATER. HARROWING EXPERIENCE BEING STUCK OUT THERE IN THAT INTERSECTION! AUTO REPAIR SHOP CALLED AND SAID THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AND I NEED A NEW ONE. NOW I CAN'T GET TO/FROM SCHOOL! THE AXLE CRACKED IN HALF AT MID SHAFT AT THE LOCATION OF THE AXLE DAMPER UNDER WHICH THE AXLE HAD CORRODED EVIDENTLY RESULTING IN ITS FAILURE. THIS SUGGESTS THAT WATER (AND SALT IN OUR CLIMATE) CAN COLLECT UNDER THE AXLE DAMPER LEADING TO CORROSION AND POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. *TR

THEY HAVE NOT CALLED. IT HAS BEEN OVER FOUR MONTHS, SEVERAL PHONE CALLS AND ONE TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA OF NC REFUSES TO REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS.
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN. AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED. THE RPMS REGISTERED APPROX. 5000 THEN RETURNED TO AROUND 2000. I TURNED AND WHILE ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED, THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED THEN CORRECTED 3 TIMES. I PARKED ON THE SHOULDER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, THEN ON AGAIN. I PROCEEDED WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES. THE NEXT DAY, FEB 26, 2015, THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AT APPROX. 45 MPH THEN CORRECTED. EACH TIME THE RPMS JUMPED TO APPROX. 5000 BEFORE SETTLING BACK TO APPROX. 2000. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE MORE TIMES. LATER THE SAME DAY, I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING ON CRUISE CONTROL AT APPROX. 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED THEN CORRECTED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE MINUTES LATER. I PARKED ON THE SHOULDER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT DRIVING TO MY DESTINATION. FEB 27TH, I HEADED TO MY FINAL DESTINATION. ABOUT 150 MILES INTO MY TRIP, I WAS SLOWING DOWN ON THE FREEWAY FOR A SLOWER CAR IN FRONT, WHEN MY CAR DOWNSHIFTED THEN CORRECTED. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES BEFORE GETTING TO MY HOME. AT NO TIME DID ANY DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER YET, AS THEY ARE CLOSED TODAY. CHROME PLATING OF INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE PEELED BACK AND CREATED A THIN SHARP EDGE. WHEN I REACHED FOR THE HANDLE, TO OPEN THE DOOR, I CUT MY MIDDLE FINGER ON THE RAISED CHROME PLATING. I SUFFERED A LACERATION THAT BECAME INFECTED AND ULTIMATELY PUT ME IN THE HOSPITAL. I RECEIVED I.V. ANTIBIOTICS FOR A WEEK AND WILL CONTINUE TAKING ORAL ANTIBIOTICS FOR ANOTHER WEEK. *TR
