I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX THAT I PURCHASED NEW IN MAY OF 2004. ON 10/23/2011 I OPENED THE HOOD TO CHECK THE OIL. I WALKED AWAY TO GET A RAG AND THE HOOD SLAMMED SHUT WHILE I WAS LOOKING THE OTHER DIRECTION. I REOPENED THE HOOD AND WATCHED TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPENNING. 18 SECONDS AFTER THE HOOD IS OPENED, THE HOOD FALLS ABOUT 5" SLOWLY AND THEN FREE FALLS THE REST OF THE WAY. I CALLED AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER OF MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO SEE IF HONDA WAS WILLING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE 2 SHOCKS THAT HOLD THE HOOD UP FOR FREE BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, WHAT EVER THEY USE TO HOLD THE HOOD UP ON THE VEHICLES THAT THEY PRODUCE SHOULD NEVER FAIL. IF I WOULD HAVE HAD MY HEAD UNDER THE HOOD CHECKING THE OIL, I COULD HAVE HAD A VERY SERIOUS BLOW TO THE HEAD. I FAXED A LETTER TO THE HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE ON TUESDAY 10/25/2011 AND A WOMAN NAMED MARIBEL CALLED ME ON THE PHONE TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM (EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T GIVE THEM MY PHONE NUMBER IN THE LETTER THAT I SENT THEM BECAUSE I WANTED A RESPONSE IN WRITING), SHE PRETTY MUCH TOLD ME THE SAME THING. THE CAR ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY ANY MORE, SO IT IS ON ME TO REPLACE THE BAD SHOCKS THAT HOLD THE HOOD UP. ONCE THE HOOD OF A VEHICLE IS RAISED AND SEEMS TO BE SECURE, NOBODY WOULD EVER EXPECT TO HAVE THE HOOD FREEFALL ON THEM WHILE CHECKING FLUID LEVELS OR ANY OTHER THING THAT THEY WOULD BE UNDER THERE INSPECTING. IT SEEMS TO BE OF THE OPINION OF HONDA THAT THIS IS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED IN TIME. I THINK THEY ARE VERY WRONG. THESE SHOCKS NEVER GAVE ME ANY WARNING THAT THEY WERE GETTING WEAK AND WERE GOING TO NEED TO BE REPLACED UNTIL THE HOOD ACTUALLY SLAMMED SHUT. *JS
HONDA ACCORD EX-L V6 2004 116''000 I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH, AND WAS COMING UP ON SOME STAND STILL TRAFFIC. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. AS THE TRAFFIC STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET OVER TO RIGHT LANE AND MERGE OFF THE EXIT WHEN MY TRANSMISSION FAILED. I HIT THE GAS AS I PULLED INTO THE RIGHT HAND EXIT LANE BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST GET REAR ENDED. THE RPM GAUGE WAS AT 3 BUT THE CAR WOULDN''T ACCELERATE. I HAD TO REV IT AND COAST DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH CARS BEHIND ME BLOWING AT ME. THE FASTEST THE CAR WOULD GO WAS 10 MPH ON A SINGLE LANE EXIT ONTO ANOTHER HIGHWAY SO I GOT TO NEAREST EXIT (2 MILES AWAY) COASTED DOWN THE EXIT AND PULLED OVER AND SHUT MY CAR OFF. AFTER 10 MINUTES WITH THE CAR OFF I STARTED IT BACK UP AND ATTEMPTED TO GET BACK HOME THE CAR DID FINE FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL ARRIVED 3 BLOCKS FROM HOUSE AND HAD TO PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FROM THE SAME TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON, I CUT OFF THE CAR FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES AND MADE IT HOME. MY CAR HAS 116,000 MILES AND I''VE RESEARCHED RECALLS ON MY MAKE AND MODEL AND HONDA HAS 1,000,000 RECALLS ON 2004 HONDA TRANSMISSION. WHEN I CALL HONDA'S TOLL FREE NUMBER AND GAVE MY VIN NUMBER AND HONDA REPRESENTATIVE SAYS THERE''S NO RECALL ON MY VIN. THEY ALSO MENTIONED TO TAKE IT TO HONDA DEALER TO GET THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSE WHICH THEY WILL NOT COVER. I FELT LIKE MY LIFE WAS DANGER, I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED TWICE AND HONDA WILL NOT CORRECT THERE PROBLEM WITH THEIR FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. I''VE REVIEWED DOZENS OF FORUMS WITH THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM DIFFERENT HONDA OWNERS WITH THE SAME YEAR (2004) WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME- AND HONDA DID NOT HELP ON REPAIRS OR ANY COMPENSATION. *TT
I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED SUDDENLY I WAS UNABLE TO SEE OR USE THEM AND HAD NO PRIOR INDICATION THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. JUST SO HAPPENED I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 ACCORD EX-L V6. I BEGAN HEARING A STRANGE NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION WITH A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 25 TO 45 MPH.. MY HONDA DEALER SAID IT HAD AN INTERNAL FAULT AND WOULD REPLACE TRANSMISSION FOR $3800. I HAD A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP REPAIR TRANSMISSION FOR $2900. THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED REPLACING. CAR HAD 97K MILES. *TR
TRANSMISSION TOTAL FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGH WAY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTING SURROUNDING THE CENTER CONSOLE WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY REPAIR FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTING BUT THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT FALL INTO THE WARRANTY OFFER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A TRACTOR TRAILER ON THE HIGHWAY MY TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR & START TO SLOW DOWN. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF MY CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. MY RPMS SHOT UP BUT MY CAR WASN'T ACCELERATED. I WAS NEARLY HIT BY THE TRACTOR TRAILER & WAS NEARLY HIT SEVERAL MORE TIMES AS I COASTED ACROSS THREE LANES ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A LOCAL DEALER & THEY WANT APPROX $5000 TO REPAIR IT. I DID A SEARCH ONLINE & THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. *TR
ALL LIGHTS OF DISPLAY BOX (FOR RADIO, A/C, AUDIO, CAR INFO, TEMPERATURE, CLOCK, ETC), DISPLAY PANEL, AND BACKLIGHTS OF ALL SWITCHES ON THAT BOX, SUCH AS HEATER ON/OFF, A/C, FRONT AND REAR DEFROSTER, TEMPERATURE, AND ALL CONTROLS ABOUT ELECTRONICS, ARE GONE, I.E. NOT DISPLAYED. FUNCTIONS ARE WORKING BUT BACKLIGHT ISN'T WORKING. IT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR SAFETY. FOR EXAMPLE, IN THE NIGHT WHEN YOU DRIVE HIGHWAY, YOU CAN'T FIND THE DEFROSTER SWITCH TO TURN ON TO REMOVE FOG OF REAR WINDOW. YOU CAN'T ADJUST THE CHANNEL AT THE NIGHT WHEN YOU NEED TO HEAR EMERGENCY RADIO CHANNEL. NO INFO ABOUT CAR AT ALL. HONDA ADMITTED THAT IT HAD A PROBLEM AND SO THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANT PERIOD, BUT THIS PROBLEM APPEARED IRREGULARLY. FOR ME, JUST AFTER PASSING THE WARRANT PERIOD THEY SAID (100K). IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. I FOUND A LOT OF COMPLAINTS AND SAME ISSUES IN THE INTERNET. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ASK HONDA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WHATEVER THEIR WARRANT PERIOD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT! *TR
MY RADIO AND A/C DISPLAY WENT OUT. I HAVE TO TURN ON MY INTERIOR LIGHTS AT NIGHT TO ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE IN MY CAR. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF MY WINDOWS GET FOGGY AND I CANNOT FIX IT WITHOUT PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY $1000 FOR A PROBLEM THAT ALL OF THESE MODELS ARE HAVING. *TT
THE RADIO AND INSTRUMENT DISPLAY LIGHTS WENT OUT...I HAVE READ VIA THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD, AND CALLED HONDA AND THEY DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS 100,000 MILES, BUT UNFORTUNATELY MINE WENT OUT LAST WEEK AND I HAVE HAD MY CAR 7 1/2 YEARS, AND HAS 100,500 MILES, SO I GOT SCREWED...I FEEL AS DO MANY THAT IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE..WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT TIME, TO BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL YOU HAVE TO TURN ON A LIGHT...I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CARS/TRUCKS IN MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE EVEN WITH CARS/TRUCKS THAT I HAVE HAD MUCH LONGER THEN THIS ONE...PLEASE MAKE HONDA FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE...THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TT
MY TRANSMISSION WAS RECALLED IN 2004 HOWEVER THE "FIX" WAS TO INSTALL AN OIL JET KIT AND EXTRA LUBRICATION TO THE GEARS. THE TRANSMISSION STILL FAILED AT ONLY 65K MILES. HONDA NOW REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. HONDA KNOWINGLY PUT MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AT RISK BY NOT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND I BECOME STUCK GOING UP A HILL AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *KB
NOTICED LEAK ON GARAGE FLOOR, TOOK IT INTO HONDA DEALERSHIP, TOLD BY TECHNICIAN CARRIER BEARING IN TRANSMISSION IS VERY LOOSE CAUSING LEAK, LIKELY NEED TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, LOW MILEAGE 70,730. WONDER IF THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED IN RECENT RECALL DATE OF 8-4-11 SINCE THIS CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY, 2004. *TR
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX COUPE V6 ENGINE...AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AT 79,000K MILES. A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AS I WAS TRYING TO GO UP A HILL AND THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO GO FORWARD ANYMORE ALTHOUGH IT WAS IN DRIVE AND I WAS PRESSING THE GAS...IT KEPT ROLLING BACKWARDS AS IF IT WAS IN REVERSE, AND I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!!!! I HAVE A 2004 V6 ACCORD WITH 110,000 MILES AND HAD A PREVIOUS THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED A YEAR AGO B/C THE TRANNY DID NOT SHIFT DOWN INTO LOWER GEAR INTERMITTENTLY ON HIGHWAY. NOW I HAVE THE OPPOSITE PROBLEM, WHERE TRANNY DOESN'T SHIFT UP INTO OVERDRIVE. SO THERE IS ANOTHER SENSOR PROBLEM. TURNING OFF/ON THE CAR RESETS IT. BUT LOCAL MECHANIC SAID TEST DRIVE SHOWED JERKINESS FROM 1 TO 2ND GEAR, AND I'VE ALWAYS NOTICED/IGNORED A JUDDER FROM HIGH GEAR TO LOW GEAR, E.G., SLOWING DOWN AT OFF RAMP. AND HE SAID THE TRANNY FLUID LOOKED BURNT. AND THERE IS AN EMISSIONS CONTROLLER FAULT AND LEAK TOO. THE RECALL FOR 2004 TRANSMISSIONS DOES NOT INCLUDE MY VIN...AND READING THE NYT BLOG FROM JAN 2011, SUGGESTS IT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN A GOOD RECALL FIX ANYWAY. BUT IN MY CALL TO DEALER SERVICE DEPT AND TO HONDA N.AMERICA, THEY CAME ACROSS VERY DEFENSIVE PEOPLE ON PHONE. CAN'T SEE BUYING ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED. ONE DAY IT IS WORKING FINE THE NEXT DAY PER THE HONDA DEALER THE TRANSMISSION IS UNREPAIRABLE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST TO ME WAS QUOTED AT $4100.00. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION, I WONDER WHEN HONDA IS GOING TO NOTIFY ME OF THE RECALL? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO SLIP OR SKIP SINCE THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,100.
THE VEHICLE IS AUTOMATIC AND TAKES UP TO 3-5 SECONDS BEFORE WANTING TO ACCELERATE ONCE ITS PUT INTO DRIVE AND THEN SLIGHT KICK ONCE IT GETS INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO VIBRATE AT THE SPEED OF 55 AS WELL. THE VEHICLE KICKS ALSO WHEN IN DRIVE AND IT SWITCHES GEARS AROUND 30 MPH. *TT
THE INTERIOR LIGHTING ON THE RADIO AND OTHER COMPONENTS WENT OUT. IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE FAN AND OTHER BUTTONS ARE IN THE DARK. I SHOULD NOT NEED TO USE A FLASHLIGHT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CLEAR FOG FROM THE WINDOWS. IF I HAVE A RELATED ACCIDENT MY INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD CONSIDER IT MY FAULT EVEN THOUGH IT IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL AT 65 MPH. ALL OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS REPORTED INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AND AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS DEEMED AS DESTROYED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL CIRCUIT BOARD FAILED. THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

I HAVE NO LIGHTS IN THE TOP OF THE CAR; A/C LIGHTS NOR A/C WORK AND THE DOOR LIGHTS. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE WHEN I GET IN OR OUT OF MY VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELT TIGHTENS UP WHETHER BRAKES ARE APPLIED OR NOT. NOT HAVING ANY DASH LIGHTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFETY OF ANY VEHICLE. WANT ASSIST!!!!!!!!! *JS
TRANSMISSION FAILURE - STARTED AS A VIBRATION AROUND 60 TO 65 MPH. DEALER ASSESSED AND INDICATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 78000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED AND BECAME STUCK IN MID-OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE MOTOR FOR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISES THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
ON JUNE 30, 2004, HONDA'S NORTH AMERICA WEBSITE RELEASED A STATEMENT ABOUT THEIR VOLUNTARY RECALL TO CERTAIN HONDA & ACURA AUTOMOBILES. MY 2004 V6 HONDA ACCORD IS MENTIONED ON THIS RECALL. ON 4/30/05, HONDA DEALERSHIP SHOWS IN MY REPAIR HISTORY REPORT THAT THE V6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SECOND GEAR IS INSPECTED. THE REPORT SAYS "INSPECT 2ND GEAR AND INSTALL LUBRICATION KIT ON TRANSMISSION. INSPECTION SHOW NO PROBLEMS". THIS CLEARLY DOES NOT INDICATE THAT THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. CASE IN POINT, ON OTHER REPAIRS MADE BY THE DEALER, THEY WILL CLEARLY STATE THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE BY STATING "PERFORMED TIRE ROTATION" OR "REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS". ON 3/19/11, I TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER RECOMMENDS THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BE REPLACED. THIS WORK IS COMPLETED BY THE CLEAR DEFINITION ON THE REPAIR ORDER FORM "DRAIN AND INSPECT TRANSMISSION FLUID, CLEAN MAGNETIC PLUG, REPLACE DRAIN PLUG SEAL, REPLACE WITH NEW HONDA TRANSMISSION FUIDE. INSPECT SEALS AND TRANS FOR LEAKS. PERFORMED TRANS FLUID SERVICE". CONTRARY TO THE 4/30/05 SERVICE REPORT, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. AT THIS TIME, SHOULDN'T THE INSPECTION SHOW WEAR AND TEAR AND CAUSE OF CONCERN TO THE AUTO TECHNICIAN THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED? THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY FLAG THAT GOES OFF TO THE DEALER WHICH WAS NOT NOTIFIED IN THE HISTORY REPAIR LOG OR TO MYSELF. ON 8/12/11, TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP AND CAR FAILS ON THE INTERCHANGE OF HIGHWAY 270 AND HIGHWAY 40 ' TWO MAJOR HIGHWAYS IN ST. LOUIS. HAVE TO PULL OFF TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR AAA TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER QUOTES ME A PRICE OF $5100 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM MY ASSIGNED HONDA CASE MANAGER FOR ANY ASSISTANCE FOR THIS HIGH QUOTED PRICE. WHEN CONTACTING OTHER AUTO TECHNICIANS, THE PRICE QUOTED IS 1/2 THE COST. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WENT OUT IN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD. I HAVE HAD OLDER CARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. NOT TO MENTION, I LIVE IN THE DESERT, SO IT WASN'T DUE TO OVERUSE. I WAS DRIVING 70 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY FREEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED ABRUPTLY AND DRASTICALLY REDUCED IN SPEED. IT REFUSED TO SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEARS, RANDOMLY SPIKED IN ENGINE RPM, AND RESULTED IN A HAZARD DUE TO QUICKLY-APPROACHING TRAFFIC FROM BEHIND. THE VEHICLE'S SPEED HAD REDUCED TO NEARLY 20 MILES PER HOUR IN BUSY FREEWAY TRAFFIC BEFORE I HAD SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATED THE VEHICLE ACROSS 3 LANES AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK. I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON A FEW MINUTES LATER, AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT AND DRIVE NORMALLY UNTIL THE END OF THE OFF-RAMP. UPON REACHING THE OFF-RAMP'S STOP LIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION DIED AGAIN, AND REFUSED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR. THE ENGINE WAS RESPONDING TO GAS PEDAL INPUTS AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL, ALTHOUGH THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE. I WAITED FOR SEVERAL TRAFFIC LIGHT CYCLES, UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AND AMID IMPATIENT DRIVERS' CAR HORNS FROM BEHIND ME. THANKFULLY, THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION RESPONDED TEMPORARILY AGAIN, LONG ENOUGH TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO A NEARBY DEALERSHIPS PARKING LOT. WE HAD TO PUSH IT THE LAST FEW FEET INTO THE PARKING SPOT. HERE, THE TRANSMISSION HAD FINALLY FAILED TO THE POINT THAT I COULD NO LONGER SHIFT IT OUT OF PARK. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET A TOW TRUCK TO TOW THE VEHICLE 15 MILES BACK TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE, WHICH REQUIRED A NEW TRANSMISSION ALTOGETHER. THEY WERE SURPRISED BY THE RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE, BUT SAID IT WAS A FREQUENT PROBLEM LIKELY DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE V6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE ACCORDS. I WAS ESPECIALLY DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I HAD JUST SPENT OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS IN MAINTENANCE COSTS AT THIS SAME HONDA DEALERSHIP A WEEK BEFORE, WHERE I HAVE CONSISTENTLY MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE.

I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO LOOK AT IT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHICH WOULD HAVE COST ME $120.00 TO TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNEW...MY TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT. I TOOK IT INSTEAD TO AN INDEPENDANT GARAGE $45.00 AND THEY SAID IT WAS AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I CALLED HONDA BACK AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL AND IT WOULD COST 3800.00 TO GET A REBUILD TRANSMISSION. CORPORATE SAID MY VIN DID NOT HAVE A RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY. FOR THE RECALL WORK TO BE PERFORMED (IT HAD NOT BEEN DONE, ISSUED IN 2004). THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY VEHICLE FOR A FULL DAY BEFORE I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING MY VEHICLE NEEDED AN OIL KIT INSTALLED WHICH WAS PART OF THE RECALL. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD THE KIT WAS INSTALLED AND IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT DURING THE TEST DRIVE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP ON THE TECHNICIAN DRIVING IT. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE FAILURE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SECOND GEAR WHICH THE RECALL STATES AND THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR APPROX. $4,000. THE NEXT DAY I CALL BACK STATING THAT I BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE CHANGED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE INSTALLING THE KIT. THEY THEN TOLD ME THEY NEVER INSTALLED THE KIT AND THE FAILURE IS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. MANY OTHER 2004 HONDA OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IF IT'S NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL SHOULDN'T THERE BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO WHY THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING LIKE THIS NOW? OR ARE THE DEALERSHIPS NOT PERFORMING THE RECALL INSPECTIONS CORRECTLY?
