AT 69,600 MILES THE WIPER MOTOR FAILED ON MY HONDA 2004 ACCORD EX V6 NAVI. HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED FOR $470. UPON DIS-ASSEMBLY CORROSION WAS DISCOVERED IN THE MOTOR HOUSING. THIS IS WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE HONDA 2003 ACCORD RECALL. PART NUMBER: 76505-SDA-A011. THE RECALLED PART WAS -A01; WITH REPLACEMENT PART BEING -A11. MY REPLACEMENT PART IS -A11. THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED IN MY DRIVEWAY; HAD I BEEN DRIVING AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. REQUEST HONDA ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V370000 (AIR BAGS) AND 15V320000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO FAIL. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, I STARTED TO GO AND WAS ENTERING ONTO AN INTERSTATE ON RAMP. I WAS IN 5PM TRAFFIC, WHICH WAS THICK. MY CAR WASN'T PICKING UP SPEED. I LOOKED DOWN AND THE RPMS WERE HIGH. I LET UP OFF THE GAS. THE CAR STARTED TO GO, AND THEN JERKED LIKE IT WAS STOPPING. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME. I WAS IN THE INTERSTATE ON RAMP WITH NO WHERE TO PULL OVER. I TRIED TO GIVE IT GAS, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED FAST ENOUGH. I LET UP OFF THE GAS AGAIN AND IT WOULD GO AND THEN JERK TO ALMOST A STOP. IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE HAD CONTROL OF THE GAS PEDAL AND BREAK PEDAL. IT DID THIS FIVE OR SIX TIMES UNTIL I COULD GET OFF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WOULD COST $4,000. AGAIN, I HAD NO WARNING THIS WOULD HAPPEN AND HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE FLUID HAD BEEN CHANGED JUST 3 MONTHS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR HAD ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX, 6 CYLINDER, WITH 134,000 MILES AT THE TIME. HONDA REFUSED TO HELP WITH ANY COST. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME 2004 ACCORDS, THEY SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE. A WEBSITE SHOWS 78 OTHER PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME THING...WITH NO WARNING AND WITH MILEAGE BETWEEN 80,000-140,000. SURELY, HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND IT WAS BROADER THAN THEY THOUGHT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED!! I PLAN TO BRING THIS TO THE MEDIA'S ATTENTION. *TR
IN EARLY 2011, I NOTICED THAT THE BACKLIGHTS FOR THE HVAC CONTROLS, RADIO, AND GEAR SHIFTER ALL WENT OUT. THE CABIN IS COMPLETELY DARK WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA, THEY SAID THAT THIS IS AN IDENTIFIED PROBLEM ON SOME 2003-2004 ACCORDS BUT THAT MY CAR IS EXCLUDED FROM THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE REPAIR IS $1,000 WHICH IS NOT A REASONABLE COST FOR A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT WITHOUT A PROPERLY LIT CABIN. *TR
ON JANUARY 2, 2004 WE PURCHASED A HONDA ACCORD EX. THE CAR IS RED IN COLOR. TOTAL COST WAS $25,998.50. WE HAVE ENJOYED THIS CAR SINCE WE PURCHASED IT AND ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WE MADE THE DECISION TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT. THAT WAS ON APRIL 8, 2011 AS THE MILEAGE NEARED 100,000. SINCE THAT TIME (PROBABLY IN MAY 2011) WE STARTED TO NOTICE SOME PEELING ON THE FRONT ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD AND ALSO SOME AROUND THE REAR WINDOW. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH EACH PASSING DAY. HAD WE KNOWN THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE REPLACED THE TIMING BELT. WE NOW HAVE A HONDA IN GREAT MECHANICAL CONDITION THAT LOOKS AWFUL. IT SEEMS THAT HONDA WHEN CONTACTED BLAMES THE ENVIRONMENT FOR THESE PROBLEMS EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T SEE THE CARS MADE BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS HAVING COMPLAINTS ABOUT A PAINT PEELING ISSUE. HONDA HAS CHANGED ITS PAINT PROCESS TO SAVE MONEY AND NOW THE CONSUMER IS GOING TO SUFFER THE COST OF REPAIR OR A CAR THAT LOOKS LIKE A JUNKER. WE ARE VERY UPSET THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL BY HONDA. MY 2004 ACCORD EX FAILED YESTERDAY ON THE FREEWAY, DROPPING FROM 65 TO 20 MPH AND THEN ZERO AND GETTING ME ALMOST REAR-ENDED IN HEAVY MORNING TRAFFIC WHILE TRYING TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED AAA AND THEY CONTACTED A TOWING COMPANY AND THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND WE'VE JUST BEEN TOLD IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION ($3800). WE CALLED HONDA TO CHECK ON KNOWN ISSUES BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ASSURED US THAT HE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE DASH THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND THIS HAPPENED VERY SUDDENLY. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS FAILURE DID NOT LEAD TO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. PLEASE ADVISE ON. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6. MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I ENTERED THE FREEWAY ACCELERATING TO FREEWAY SPEEDS (60MPH) AND AROUND 55MPH THE CAR'S ENGINE REVVED TO 6000RPM. KNOWING SOMETHING WAS WRONG I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. THE CAR BEGAN TO COAST AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT CAUGHT A LOWER GEAR AND VIOLENTLY STARTED TO ENGINE BRAKE. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. I'M CERTAIN THAT IF THE PAVEMENT WAS WET I WOULD HAVE. I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO KEEP US ON THE ROAD. IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THINGS MIGHT HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND HAS HAD ALL OF ITS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTIONS (WITH RECORDS). THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP AND WE WERE INFORMED THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS BAD. THE CAR HAS 121,000 MILES. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THIS CAR YEAR MODEL THAT INCLUDED CARS MANUFACTURED TO JANUARY 8, 2004. OUR CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN JANUARY 2004 AND NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE HAVE YET TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED BECAUSE OF THE INSANELY HIGH REPAIR COST. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED SEVERAL INTERNET SITES AND NEWSPAPER ARTICLES REFERRING TO HONDA TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I AM THANKFUL THAT I DIDN'T WRECK THE CAR, BUT NOW THE CAR IS SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY NOT DRIVE-ABLE. OBVIOUSLY, NOW I WONDER IF MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HOPE SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS PROBLEM IS BROUGHT TO LIGHT AND REMEDIED BY HONDA. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO WILL POWER ON AND OFF ON ITS OWN AND WHILE THE RADIO WAS TURNED OFF IT BEGAN TRYING TO EJECT COMPACT DISC ALTHOUGH NOTHING WAS IN THE CD PLAYER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE . THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
WHILE ACCELERATING IN 2ND GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV, BUT THE CAR REMAINS IN A NEUTRAL STATE. FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AND THEN SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE. ONCE THE TRANSMISSION CATCHES, THE VEHICLE SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD. THERE IS A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHILE ACCELERATING, THAT DIDN'T EXIST BEFORE. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED BECAUSE OF A SAFETY RECALL WHICH PERTAINS TO THIS EXACT PROBLEM. HONDA REFUSES TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEY STATE THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING LONG DISTANCE AT 80 MPH, SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION GEARS WERE BROKEN AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED NINE MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC, WHO THEN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SPEED SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE HAD RECURRED WITHIN ANOTHER NONE MONTHS. THE MECHANIC CONTRIBUTED THE RECURRING FAILURE TO THE SPEED SENOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IS NOW ON CONSTANTLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE DEALER MENTIONED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V001000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE), BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
FOR 3 DAYS PRIOR, I NOTICED A SECOND OR TWO LAG TIME BETWEEN THE CAR GOING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. THEN ABOUT 10 MINUTES INTO DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MPH THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED TO A LOWER GEAR AND THE CAR ABRUPTLY DROPPED TO ABOUT 10 MPH. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME OR THEY WOULD HAVE SMASHED INTO MY CAR. I THEN TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME WITH HAZARDS BLINKING. DURING THE ENTIRE TRIP BACK, THE TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY SLIPPED GEARS AT ALMOST EVERY SPEED. *TR
HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION FAILURE AFTER 107,000 MILES, WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STAY IN DRIVE A HIGHWAY SPEEDS. A COMPLAINT WAS REGISTERED WITH AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORPORATION, WHO DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. A SURVEY OF ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS INDICATED OVER 100 FAILURES HERE AT NHTSA, AND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AT OTHER FORUMS. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH EARLIER FAILURES OF HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS, WHERE THEY EXTENDED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTEES TO 109K MILES FOR REPLACEMENT. *TR
OUR 2004 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN V6 - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. 195,000 MILES THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS CORRESPONDENCE IS TO REGISTER A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT OCCURRED TO MY WIFE AND I ON MARCH 20 2011, AT 3:30 PM. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD HAD A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND LOCKUP. WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING NORTH ON 95 NORTH THE CAR SUDDENLY MADE A CLICK NOISE AND JERKED AS IF SOMEONE HAD JAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE RPM'S RACED. MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN BY TAKING HIS FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND NOT TOUCH THE BRAKE. THE CAR VIOLENTLY JERKED AGAIN AS IT SLOWED DOWN. AS HE ATTEMPTED TO GET ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, THE CAR VIOLENTLY LURCHED 4-5 MORE TIMES. WITH EACH OF THESE SUDDEN, UNEXPECTED JERKS, WE WERE THROWN FORWARD. THANKFULLY, OUR SEAT BELTS WERE ON, WHICH PREVENTED US FROM BEING THROWN FORWARD INTO THE WINDOW. WAITING TO HERE FROM THE SALEM NH HONDA DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT THE REMEDY WILL BE (REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT ONE IS MY GUESS). THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME WE HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION, I THINK THIS IS SUCH A SERIOUS ISSUE WHICH, IF CIRCUMSTANCES WERE DIFFERENT, COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE IS ON THE CAR. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A KNOWN PROBLEM TO HONDA AND THEY SHOULD DO AN OTHER RECALL LIKE THEY DID WITH THE 2003 MODELS AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.*TR

VEHICLE: HONDA ACCORD V6, 2004 PROBLEM: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE ON A BUSY STREET AND NEARLY WAS REAR ENDED AND LEFT ME STRANDED ON BUSY ROAD. HONDA IS NOT ADMITTING ANY FAULT AT THIS MOMENT WHEN THIS MODEL HAS A RECALL DATED 2004 WHICH I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS WORKED ON AT THEIR DEALERSHIP IN 2010. THIS DEFECT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS DROPPING OUT OF GEAR WHEN ON AN INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 70MPH. *TR

NO INDICATION THE TRANS WAS FAILING UNTIL SYMPTOMS BEGAN AND GOT WORSE IN A HURRY. CONSEQUENCES ARE TOWING TO SHOP AND EXPENSIVE REPAIRS WHICH ARE BEING MADE NOW. HONDA SAID I HAD TO BRING IT IN TO THEIR SHOP AND THEY HAD TO DO ANY REPAIRS. NO PRICE OR OFFER OF FINANCIAL HELP..JUST A "MAYBE" HONDA WOULD OFFER A "GOODWILL" DISCOUNT. DECIDED NOT TO TRY HONDA AS OTHERS ONLINE TOLD OF THE EXCEEDINGLY HIGH CHARGES HONDA IMPOSES. FEEL IT WAS A SAFETY RISK THAT SHOULD NEVER HAD HAPPENED. HONDA APPARENTLY HAS A HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES FOR SEVERAL YEAR MODELS. SEEMS THEY PROFIT FROM NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM IF THEY REQUIRE THEM TO REPAIR AND CHARGE MORE THAN ANY PRIVATE SHOP. *TR

I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE, ALTHOUGH I HAVE FOUND LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT ONLINE. WAS TOLD THAT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO OFFER ME SOME ASSISTANCE ON REPAIR, BUT NOT 100% AND NOT A COMMON ISSUE. *TR

WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION, SHE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD BUT THE VEHICLE STALLED; THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO RECALL 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO DRAINED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CLEANED METAL FROM THE PLUGS BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 134,257.

BRAKES ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE, PARTICULARLY DURING HIGH IDLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELING AS THOUGH IT'S GETTING SUCKED DOWN DURING A SLIGHT APPLICATION. ONE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AND START APPLYING THE BRAKES INCREDIBLY SLOWLY BEFORE THEY WISH TO START STOPPING. THUS, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO STOP QUICKLY WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING HEAVILY APPLIED AGAINST ONE'S WILL. DURING AN EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATION, WHICH LUCKILY I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, I SUSPECT IT'D BE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE SLOWING DOWN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE VEHICLE HAS ABS. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. UPON RESEARCH ON MANY DIFFERENT WEBSITES, I HAVE FOUND OTHER DRIVERS OF 2004 HONDA ACCORDS THAT COMPLAIN OF THE SAME ISSUE. ONE COMPLAINT EVEN CLAIMED THAT THEY APPLIED THEIR BRAKES NORMALLY ON AN OFFRAMP, AND THE ISSUE CAUSED THEIR VEHICLE TO SPIN AROUND COMPLETELY, LUCKILY NOT STRIKING ANYONE OR ANYTHING. OTHERS SAY THAT THEY HAVE COMPLAINED TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS, BUT WERE JUST TOLD THAT THEY NEED TO GET USED TO THE BRAKES. I FEEL THAT A LIKELY PROBLEM MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM PROVIDING TOO MUCH ASSIST WITH EVEN LIGHT APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. I'M NOT SURE WHETHER ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED DUE TO THIS ISSUE, OR IF THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE THE CAUSE OF ANY ACCIDENTS. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

ON JANUARY 6, 2011 THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD V6 (WITH ~84,695 MILES) BEGAN SLIPPING. THE ENGINE WOULD REV WILDLY AT ODD TIMES WHEN I WAS NOT ACCELERATING, AND WOULD SLIP INTO NEUTRAL WHEN I WAS ON DRIVE OR REVERSE. AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES IN CITY TRAFFIC THESE PROBLEMS WOULD GET REALLY BAD AND FINALLY THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS ON AND IN DRIVE. AFTER BREAKING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR ARTERY IN WASHINGTON, DC, AND HAVING TO BE PUSHED AROUND THE CORNER BY TWO GOOD SAMARITANS, I FINALLY DISCOVERED THAT IF I SIMPLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RE-STARTED THE CAR, I COULD DRIVE AGAIN, ALBEIT SLOWLY AND WITH THESE PROBLEMS PERSISTING. AT FIRST MY HONDA DEALER MISDIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BATTERY PROBLEM, BUT FINALLY AFTER THREE TRIES THEY REPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I INFORMED THEM OF THE RECALL ON ALL 2003 ACCORD V6'S AND SELECT 2004 ACCORD V6S. I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THAT SAME SECOND GEAR PROBLEM. WE COMPLAINED TO AMERICAN HONDA AND ASKED THEM TO MAKE THIS GOOD. AFTER HAVING BOUGHT THIS CAR PRECISELY BECAUSE I WANTED THE MOST RELIABLE CAR ON THE MARKET AND BECAUSE HONDAS HAVE THE REPUTATION FOR GOING FOR 200,000 MILES, I WAS INCENSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIED AT 85000 MILES. AMERICAN HONDA AGREED TO PAY JUST $500 WHICH BARELY COVERED THE COST OF MY RENTAL CAR FOR THE PERIOD DURING WHICH I WAS WITHOUT MY CAR. I FEEL THIS SITUATION WAS HANDLED VERY POORLY BY HONDA AND THAT, BASED ON ALL THE CONSUMERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH THEIR V6 ACCORD TRANSMISSION, IT IS CLEAR THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT BROAD ENOUGH IN TERMS OF THE SPECIFIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IT ADDRESSED. *TR
THE FAILURE OCCURS UNDER REGULAR DRIVING WHENEVER A ROCK OR DEBRIS HITS THE FOG LIGHT LENSES CAUSING IT TO CRACK OR SHATTER. IT HAS OCCURRED 5 TIMES IN THE LAST SIX YEARS, AND ALSO HUNDREDS OF TIMES TO OTHER HONDA AND ACURA OWNERS. THE CONSEQUENCES INCLUDE GLASS SHARDS FALLING ONTO THE ROAD, AND SOMETIMES CAUSES THE BULBS TO BREAK AND THE FOG LIGHTS TO GO OUT. THE DEALER REPLACES THE FOG LIGHT ASSEMBLY WITH AN IDENTICAL UNIT WHICH IS ALSO SUBJECT TO THE SAME PROBLEM. A SIMPLE SOLUTION WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE GLASS LENS WITH A HARD PLASTIC ONE (SUCH AS THE ONE USED ON THE HEADLAMPS) BUT HONDA DOES NOT PROVIDE SUCH A UNIT. *TR

THE DEALER (NAPLETON'S RIVER OAKS HONDA, 17220 TORRENCE AVE, LANSING, IL 60438) STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DID NOT REPAIR OR DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE ON THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR WIRING HARNESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. ON DECEMBER 28, 2010 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR THROUGH THE WINDY AND SNOWY BACK ROADS OF THE ADIRONDACKS WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOWLY DECELERATE. LUCKILY THERE WAS A SMALL SHOULDER WHERE THE SNOW WAS PLOWED OFF ENOUGH FOR ME TO PULL OVER AND CALL AAA. I HAD TO WAIT 35 MINUTES ON THE SIDE OF THIS ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE FOR MY CAR TO BE TOWED. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN 2004 AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY DRIVER SINCE. IT HAS BEEN EXCELLENTLY MAINTAINED AND ALWAYS BROUGHT IN FOR OIL CHANGES AND CHECKUPS. THIS CAR, OTHER THAN WHAT HAPPENED ON THE 28TH, IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALERSHIP IN PLATTSBURGH NEW YORK. THE NEXT DAY THE MECHANIC CALLED ME AND SAID IT WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. HE GAVE ME THREE OPTIONS, NONE OF WHICH ARE APPEALING. THE FIRST OPTION COSTS $2,500 FOR A USED TRANSMISSION, SECOND OPTION COSTS $3,000 TO REBUILD THE EXISTING TRANSMISSION AND LASTLY $3,300 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. AGAIN, NO OPTION IS APPEALING. WHEN LOOKING UP THE TYPES OF FAILURES THAT OTHER HONDA ACCORDS HAVE HAD, THIS IS RIGHT IN LINE WITH THEM. IT INFURIATES ME TO NO END THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND THAT IT WILL COST ME OVER $3 THOUSAND TO FIX THIS CAR. WINDSHIELD WIPER DO NOT WORK PROPERLY WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN. I LIVE IN SAN DIEGO AND IT RARELY RAIN HERE SO I RARELY HAD TO USE MY WIPERS. EVERY TIME I USE MY WIPERS IN THE RAIN IT WOULD STOP WORKING AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES - THE WIPER WOULD START MOVING SLUGGISH AS IF GETTING STUCK THEN IT WOULD ACTUALLY STOP MIDWAY ON THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD TO TURN THE WIPERS OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN AND THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I NO LONGER DRIVE THIS CAR IN THE RAIN FORTUNATELY IT DOES NOT RAIN VERY OFTEN IN SAN DIEGO. IT WORKS FINE WHEN NOT RAINING (WINDSHIELD FLUID CLEANING WINDOW). I CHECKED THE RECALL FOR HONDA AND FOUND THAT THE 2003 ACCORD WAS RECALLED FOR DEFECTIVE WIPER MOTOR AND THIS RECALL WAS ISSUE ON 4/17/2008. I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER HOW MANY OTHER ACCORD YEARS WERE AFFECTED WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE WIPER MOTOR ISSUE. HONDA ACCORD 2003-2007 ARE BASICALLY THE SAME BODY STYLE SO IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THE SAME TYPE OF WIPER MOTOR DEFECT EXIST IN ALL THESE MODELS. I WAS GOING TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER LAST MONTH, SAN DIEGO HAD A HUGE RAIN STORM AND I HAD TO USE MY ACCORD AND NEARLY GOT IN AN ACCIDENT SINCE I WAS UNABLE TO SEE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE WILLING TO PAY 50 PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. SHE REFERENCED RECALL 04V176000, POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL PER THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,900.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT EXPLANATION (BOTH THE BAG THAT DEPLOYS THROUGH THE CEILING LINER AND THE BAG THAT DEPLOYS THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT). DUE TO THE VIOLENCE AND CONFUSION OF THE DEPLOYMENT EXPLOSION, I FIRST THOUGHT THAT THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE MUST HAVE BEEN CRUSHED IN A COLLISION WITH AN UNSEEN SEMI-TRAILER TRUCK. EARS RINGING FROM THE CONCUSSION, I INITIALLY FOUGHT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, BUT SOON REALIZED THAT THE TIRES WERE STILL INTACT. AS THE SMOKE CLEARED, I SAW THAT THE NEAREST VEHICLES WERE 100+ YARDS AHEAD OR BEHIND MY VEHICLE. AT THE NEXT EXIT, I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE UNDER A STREET LIGHT. THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR. DURING LATER INSPECTIONS BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTOR AND THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, NO CAUSE FOR DEPLOYMENT WAS FOUND. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND HENCE NO EVIDENCE THAT AN OBJECT HIT THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO TRIGGER THE DEPLOYMENT. THE ONLY EXTERNAL DAMAGE WAS A SMALL GOLF-BALL SIZED DENT IN THE ROOF OVER THE RIGHT CENTER PILLAR. THE DENT WAS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY THE STRONG TORQUE THAT THE DEPLOYING SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAG APPLIED TO THE WELDED ROOF MOUNT TO WHICH THE AIR BAG PACKAGE BOLTS. HENCE, ALL INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE (>$3000 USD) WAS CAUSED BY THE FALSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT ITSELF. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONCLUDED THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A COLLISION AND REFUSED TO COVER THE DAMAGES. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SIMILARLY REFUSED TO COVER THE DAMAGE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP FURTHER CLAIMED THAT THE AIR BAG CONTROLLERS DO NOT SAVE THE STATE OF THE SENSORS WHEN A DEPLOYMENT IS TRIGGERED, AND HENCE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DIAGNOSE FAILURES. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOT A CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. MY 2004 ACCORD V6, 117K MILES...TRANSMISSION SLIPPED ON THURSDAY OF LAST WEEK FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND BY SATURDAY THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. CAR REVVED WITH NO ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT 50 MPH, WAS ON A HIGHWAY RAMP WITH TRAFFIC ALL AROUND ME, VERY DANGEROUS. IT CONTINUED TO SPUTTER AND SLIP, THEN WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE ONCE PARKED. I JUST CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY DENIED KNOWLEDGE OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THIS PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO "BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ ON THE INTERNET." THIS IS MY SECOND, BUT LAST HONDA. I BOUGHT HONDAS BECAUSE OF THEIR SUPPOSED RELIABILITY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND HONDA SHOULD MAKE CONCESSIONS AND OWN UP TO THE PROBLEM. SOMEONE WILL END UP DEAD BEFORE THIS IS OVER IF THEY DON'T MAKE THIS PUBLIC. THERE IS NO WARNING THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMING ON. WHEN STARTING, MY 2004 ACCORD, A GREEN D LIGHT CAME ON THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO DRIVE VERY ROUGHLY AND WITHOUT POWER. IT WAS THEN THAT I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL ON CERTAIN CARS OF THAT YEAR, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SO THE HONDA DEALER SAID IN ESSENCE TOO BAD THAT DOESN'T EFFECT YOUR CAR BECAUSE YOUR VIN WASN'T INCLUDED! NOW I'M GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION IN A CAR WITH ONLY 77,000 MILES! *TR
