ON THURSDAY MARCH 11, 2010 MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING IN OUR 2004 HONDA ACCORD ON A 45 MPH ROAD. WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A GREEN LIGHT, MY SHIFTER POPPED OUT OF 2ND GEAR AND INTO NEUTRAL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV TO THE REDLINE. IN NEUTRAL, THE CAR LOST POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC SPEEDING DIRECTLY TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR WHERE MY WIFE WAS SITTING. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND US ALSO MAKING A LEFT TURN. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFTER IS OCCURRING WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY, AND HAS BECOME AN EXTREME DANGER TO ME, MY FAMILY, AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE SAME ROADS AS I. MY TRUSTED MECHANIC EXAMINED THE CAR AND DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. I WILL BE FORTUNATE TO HAVE THIS DONE FOR UNDER $2000. HE COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED TO A NEWER HONDA WITH AS LOW MILEAGE AS MINE. I'VE SPENT HOURS COMMUNICATING WITH MCGRATH HONDA (THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD THE CAR) AND HONDA OF AMERICA CORPORATION. I HAVE ONLY BEEN TREATED WITH RUDENESS AND UNWILLINGNESS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS SIMPLY A LEMON. NOBODY WILL EVEN OFFER TO EXAMINE THE CAR WITHOUT CHARGING ME AN EXORBITANT FEE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON BECAUSE OF A FAULTY SENSOR UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT. WHILE YOU PUBLISHED RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS PROBLEM, HONDA IS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE ME PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY CREATED. THEY STATED THAT IT IS NOT LISTED FOR MY VIN # HOWEVER, IF A RECALL EXIST FOR THE PROBLEM MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE FIXED FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
1. (THE EVENTS) MOVING THE DRIVER'S SEAT FORWARD FOR MY 5' TALL WIFE AND MOVING THE SEAT ALL THE WAY BACK WHEN I DRIVE, I AM 6' TALL, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON. 2. (THE FAILURE) AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, FROM JUST MINUTES AT A TIME TO DAYS AT A TIME, A FAILURE OF THE SPS CAUSES THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO DEFAULT TO FULL INFLATION PRESSURE, REGARDLESS OF THE SEAT POSITION. 3. (CORRECTIONS MADE) NONE. I NOTICED A RECALL FOR THIS CAR 'NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V001000' AND CONTACTED HONDA MOTOR CO. FOR RECALL REPAIR INFORMATION, THEY CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS CAR. I CONNECTED MY OBD2 SCANNER TO THE CAR AND THERE WERE NO CODES. I AM NOT ALONE, CHECKING DIFFERENT HONDA FORUMS, THERE ARE MANY HONDA OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
AUDIO UNIT DISPLAY WENT BLANK / EXTREMELY DIM. THIS UNIT CONTROLS RADIO AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE HEATING AND COOLING SETTINGS FOR THE CAR. COVERED UNDER EXTEND WARRANTY (7 YEARS /100K MILES), BUT CAR HAS 116K MILES, YET 6 YEARS OLD. SINCE ELECTRONICS FAILURES SHOULD BE BASED ON USAGE HOURS OF OPERATION), BELIEVE THIS FAILURE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR
NO INDICATION OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ISSUES. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, PRESSED ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. WAS ON INNERMOST LANE, HAD TO CROSS 3 INTERSTATE RIGHT LANES DURING COMMUTING HOUR WITH NO ACCELERATION (WAS LIKE DRIVING IN NEUTRAL). ABLE TO GET TO NEXT EXIT. WAS ON A DOWNSLOPE SO ABLE TO COAST DOWN. AT THE BASE OF THE HILL, STOPPED. COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANYMORE, PRESS THE PEDAL IN D AND R AND WOULD NOT MOVE CALLED TOW TRUCK TO TOW ME TO HONDA DEALERSHIP 40 MILES AWAY CONSIDERED AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THIS IS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH THIS VEHICLE. HONDA SERVICE REPAIR HAD TO REPLACE ALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PARTS. AS OF DATE, HONDA CORP. WILL NOT WARRANTY THE PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED AS SHE WAS DRIVING 40 MPH THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WITHOUT GIVING ANY WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE TRANSMISSION BURNED OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SCHOOL IN OUR 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6. ON THE TOP OF THE CRESCENT CITY CONNECTION (NEW ORLEANS BRIDGE), THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. BECAUSE SHE WAS ON AN INCLINE, IT STARTED ROLLING BACK. SHE PANICKED BUT PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THANKFULLY, A N.O. POLICEMAN PULLED UP AND PUT HIS LIGHTS ON CALLING FOR THE BRIDGE POLICE. BRIDGE POLICE PUSHED HER OFF BRIDGE. ONCE DOWN SHE TURNED OFF THE CAR, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON HER WAY HOME. SHE TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, IT JUST STOPS ACCELERATING. HONDA DEALER SAID TECHNICIAN HAD TO DRIVE IT AWHILE AND HAD SAME EXPERIENCE. THE CAR DIDN'T GIVE ANY PROBLEM CODE EITHER BUT SAID IF WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT, IT WOULD. SAYS TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TOLD HIM INTERNET SITE IS FLOODED WITH SIMILAR TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. SAID AMERICAN HONDA WOULD ASSIST US IF WE PAY $1,944.24 OF THE $4,500 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 AND 2004 TRANSMISSION AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. HONDA WILL ORDER THE TRANSMISSION TOMORROW TO DO THE WORK. *TR
04 HONDA ACCORD LX 4DR SDN SILVER. WHEN BRAKING AT STOP-LIGHT OR OTHER STOPS CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES AND I HAVE TO QUICKLY SHOVE IT NEUTRAL IT REVS TO HIGH RPMS A FINALLY RETURNS TO NORMAL RPMS, IT HAS HAPPENED ON DATES 2-8-10 4-5-10 4-23-10 AND 5-17-10 WAS TOWED TO RUSSELL & SMITH HONDA,IN HOUSTON TX. I WATCHED THEM DO TESTS ON CAR'S COMPUTER. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ALL THE TECH PART BUT THEY SAID EVERYTHING CHECKED OK. I HAVE THE FEELING THEY DON' BELIEVE ME. IT'S AT THE DEALERSHIP AS OF THIS DATE 5-21-10 AND I'M MEETING WITH THEM TODAY AT ABOVE DATE. I'M REALLY AFRAID OF DRIVING IT !! INCIDENTS DATES I JUST PUT THE FIRST OF 4 BELOW I LEFT OUT ONE THING WHILE I WAS IN THE OFFICE AND THE CAR WENT BACK TO THE SERVICE-BAY THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY UP-DATING THE SOFTWARE ON THE CAR'S COMPUTOR.QUOTE "WE DON'T TELL THAT TO HONDA". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE INOPERATIVE, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE HOW FAR THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AND HOW MUCH FUEL WAS IN THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
IN JANUARY 29, 2010, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY CHILDREN WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. WE HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO CHECKED IT AND TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. WE EVENTUALLY HAD IT REPLACED FOR $2300. I WAS REALLY SURPRISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED SO PREMATURELY BUT SINCE IT HAD PASSED ITS WARRANTY I DIDN'T BOTHER NOTIFIYING HONDA. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN THIS NOVEMBER 11, 2011 WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY CHILDREN HOME. THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION WE HAD PUT IN FAILED AS WELL AFTER 30,000 MILES. LUCKILY, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. NOW I'M HAVING IT REPLACED WITH THE USED ONE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER $2300. I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE ON THIS BUT I FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY NEIGHBOR HAS AN ACCORD AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEBODY DIES. *KB
MY HONDA ACCORD 2004 HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHEREBY IT WILL DROP INTO NEUTRAL DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THE MOST PRONOUNCED TIME I NOTICED IT, WAS DRIVING IN PEAK HOUR TRAFFIC AND TRYING TO CROSS LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. JUST BEFORE DOING SO THE CAR REVVED TO 6000RPM WITH VERY LITTLE FORWARD ACCELERATION. I HAD TIME TO CANCEL MY ACTIONS TO CROSS, HOWEVER HAD THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED OUT 2 SEC LATER I WOULD HAVE FOUND MYSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC INCLUDING TRUCKS AT HIGH SPEED. LUCKILY A MAJOR ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED HOWEVER I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE CAR AT HONDA FOR DETERMINATION OF THE FAULT. THEY ADMIT THERE IS A DEFECT AND HAVE OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH REPAIRS BY CHARGING ME 1600 TO FULLY REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. MY POSITION IS THAT SINCE HONDA HAS ALREADY RECALLED SIMILAR 2004 HONDA ACCORDS FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT THEY SHOULD INCLUDE MY VIN IN THE RECALL RANGE. HONDA HAD ISSUED A CORPORATE RELEASE REGARDING THE RECALL STATING IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN AND AFFECTED 1,000,000 VEHICLES WORLD WIDE. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK MY TRANSMISSION IS SUFFERING THE SAME FATE AS THESE OTHER ACCORDS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN DECEMBER 2003. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 30 MPH AND SLOWING DOWN, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE NEXT DAY, WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 50 MPH, SHE NOTICED THE RPMS DROPPED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO SLOWLY PICK UP SPEEDS. SHE IMMEDIATELY DROVE OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 123,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING. WITHIN 2-3 MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR. I CALLED TOW TRUCK AND WHEN HE ARRIVED I TRIED AGAIN AND WAS SUCCESSFUL IN TURNING THE CAR AROUND. I FOUND ON THIS SITE A REFERENCE TO A RECALL NOTICE BUT HONDA DOESN'T SHOW ANY RECALLS FOR MY CAR. ONE REPAIR SHOP WANTS TO PUT IN ANOTHER TRANSMISSION EST. $3,000. I AM PLANNING ON TAKING TO HONDA DEALER AND TRY AGAIN IN PERSON. *TR
CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED 100% ACCORDING TO HONDA'S OWNERS MANUAL. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WILL DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR CAUSING A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED AND FAST. COLD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEED 20 TO 40 MPH CAR STARTED JERKING BUCKING PULLED OVER TO STORE PARKING LOT WAITED 10 MINUTES SCARED TO DRIVE 10 MIN TO HOME BUT MADE IT. ATTEMPT TO DRIVE VEHICLE NEXT DAY AFTER DRIVING START JERKING TRANSMISSION SLIPPING PULLED OVER AGAIN . TRY TO MOVE VEHICLE AGAIN CARS WOULD NOT MOVE. CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA INFORMED TRANSMISSION FAILED WAS INFORMED MY VEHICLE ID WAS NOT ON THE 2004 ACCORD TRANSMISSION RECALL LIST. ASK FOR GOOD FAITH REPAIR REFUSED. *TR
DRIVING HONDA ACCORD ON SH 121, PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND ENGINE STARTED REVVING BUT CAR WOULDN'T GO. TRIED SHIFTING INTO OTHER DRIVES AND BACK INTO DRIVE THINKING THAT MAYBE IT WAS STUCK IN BETWEEN GEARS (EVEN THOUGH IT'S AN AUTOMATIC) AND THE CAR WOULD GO FOR A BIT THEN DO THE SAME THING. I EVENTUALLY HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON HOPING I WOULDN'T GET REAR ENDED. CALLED AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. FIRST THE KEYS WERE LOST SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE TOW TRUCK AND THE DEALERSHIP, THEN THE DEALER FIRST COULDN'T REPLICATE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND AFTER WE TOLD THEM TO LET THE CAR WARM UP SOME MORE, THEY DID REPLICATE IT. SO WE WENT FROM "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CAR" TO " YOU NEED THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION REPLACED". THIS FOR A HONDA THAT DOESN'T HAVE 100K ON IT YET. CHECKED WEBSITES AND SEEMS THIS ISN'T AN UNCOMMON THING WITH THIS CAR AND STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT, IF ANYTHING HONDA WILL DO TO CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM. THE CAR HASN'T HAD ANY SYMPTOMS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALER AND HAD ITS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. I BOUGHT A HONDA SO I WOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. I FEEL RIPPED OFF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT SINCE IT WAS SUCH AN UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACTS ROTORS WERE FAULTY. THE MECHANIC CLIPPED THE ROTORS TO MAKE THEM SMOOTHER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE THE ROTORS SHOULD HAVE NOT FAILED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE ROTORS AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO WRITE A LETTER TO CORPORATE EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
2004 HONDA ACCORD EX 5-SPEED MANUAL: DEC. 2009 WITH 1ST USE OF ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT GOODYEAR (T135/90D15 PART # 818216253) DONUT SPARE TIRE NOTICED ROUGH RIDE TO TIRE SHOP. ASK EMPLOYEE TO REPAIR MY FLAT AND LOOK OVER THE DONUT SPARE PLUS ROTATE TIRES. NOTHING UNUSUAL NOTED ON DONUT SPARE. JAN. 2010 HIT POTHOLE WITH REPAIRED TIRE WHICH CAUSES IT TO GO FLAT. INSTALLED GOODYEAR DONUT SPARE. NEXT MORNING NOTICED SPARE WAS FLAT. VALVE STEM BROKEN; ADDED AIR TWICE IN ORDER TO LIMP TO TIRE SHOP. THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH THE SPARE AND REFERRED ME TO HONDA. LEFT CAR AT TIRE STORE. NEXT MORNING WENT TO MY HONDA PARTS AND SERVICE DEALER LOCATION WITH SPARE. WE NOTICED A HARD BULGE IN SPARE SIDEWALL. SAID THEY DON'T WARRANTY ANY TIRES ONLY TIRE STORES DO. ONLY HELP THEY COULD GIVE ME WAS TO SEND ME TO A LOCAL TIRE SHOP. DISCOUNT TIRE TRIED IN VAIN TO LOCATE A NEW GOODYEAR DONUT SPARE AND COULD ONLY FIND A USED (MANUFACTURED WEEK 31 OF 1996) AFTER CONVINCING GOODYEAR THAT SPARE WAS DEFECTIVE (AIR BUBBLE FORMED INSIDE SPARE TIRE THEN TORE). HOW IS IT THAT GOODYEAR DOESN'T MAKE A WIDELY USED PRODUCT? OR HAVE THESE DONUT SPARES BEEN FRAUGHT WITH SUCH PROBLEMS THAT THE PRODUCT IS BEING OUTLAWED? *TR
MY HONDA ACCORD 2004, V4 , HAS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ESPECIALLY WHEN AFTER INITIAL IGNITION, THE BRAKES DO NOT SEEM TO HOLD THE ACCELERATION WELL. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON MULTIPLE DAYS THE MOST RECENT BEING ON JANUARY 5TH 2010. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC STOP WHEN THE PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS ONE REPORTED INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE POTENTIALLY OCCURRED BECAUSE THE CONTACT'S FEET WERE TOO WIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A SECOND CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, NEVER RESPONDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.
LIGHT DISPLAY WENT OUT THAT CONTROLS RADIO AND HVAC COMPONENTS 2 YEARS AGO. DARK AT NIGHT WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN THE WINDOWS GET FOGGED UP YOU CAN NOT SEE THE SWITCH TO TURN ON DEFROST BECAUSE THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD HAS STOPPED WORKING, SO IT REQUIRES YOU TO TURN ON INTERIOR LIGHT TO FIND THE DEFROST BUTTON, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. AFTER RESEARCHING LAST NIGHT I FOUND HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS UNTIL 2011 OR 100,000. DEPENDING ON MILEAGE, THE CORRECTIVE ACTION INVOLVED EITHER REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION OR INSTALLING A FAN TO REDUCE THE HEAT BUILDUP. FOR MY CAR, THEY INSTALLED A FAN BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. RECENTLY, I HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S REQUIREMENTS. ON MY SERVICE RECEIPT, THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER STATED, "THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BLACK AND SMELLED BURNED WITH METAL FLAKES IN THE FLUID". THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ITEM, AND REALIZING THE 2008 RECALL OF THE SAME ISSUE, SAME PART IN THE 2003 MODEL, I SUGGEST THAT THE RECALL BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE VIN'S BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS AS A RESULT. I AM APPALLED THAT AMERICAN HONDA KNOWS THEY HAVE A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT, BUT IS FAILING TO DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO DOWN SHIFT CAUSING THE VEHICLE SPEED TO DECREASE TO 25 MPH. THE CONTACT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT AFTER THE GEAR SHIFT WAS PLACED IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 92690.
I WAS TRAVELING ON ROUTE 50 AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING ON THE KENT NARROWS BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DOWN POURS THAT WE WERE HAVING HERE IN CENTREVILLE MARYLAND ON SATURDAY 8-22-2009. I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA TODAY AFTER SPEAKING TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME OF THE ACCORDS FOR THE MOTORS CORRODING DUE TO WATER GETTING UNDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVERS. HONDA OF AMERICA TOLD ME THAT ONLY COVERED THE HONDA ACCORDS FOR THE YEAR OF 2003. THIS RECALL OCCURRED JULY 2008. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND MY MOTOR STOPPED WORKING ON ROUTE 50 IN TRAFFIC TRAVELING WITH NO VISIBILITY. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AS I COULD NOT SEE A THING IN FRONT OF ME AND I HAD MY 13 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR WITH ME. I HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED TODAY 8-24-2009 IF YOU NEED THE PART I WOULD HAVE TO KNOW BY TOMM SO THAT I COULD GET MY MECHANIC TO KEEP IT FOR ME. I HAVE SEEN OTHER PERSONS ON LINE THAT HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. PL;EASE HELP AS THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO BE IN A DOWN POUR AND TO HAVE YOUR WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING IN TRAFFIC. AUTO PURCHASED NEW, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT OR DAMAGED. AIRBAG LIGHT ON, DEALERSHIP REPLACED SENSOR FREE, REPLACED COMPONENT AT A COST TO ME FOR 300.00, AIRBAG LIGHT STILL ON. THEY NOW SAY THE HARNESS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF 300.00. WHY IS THIS NOT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM? NO ONE CAN ANSWER WHY I MUST PAY TO HAVE THIS DEFECT FIXED. *TR
MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 HAS ABOUT 88K ON IT. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45MILES/PER HOUR THE CAR STARTED JERKING, THEN IT STARTED REVVING THE ENGINE, INCREASING THE RPM'S TO 5000 REVS EVEN WHEN MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR WOULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 15/MILES PER HOUR. ITS BEEN TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE I'VE NEVER HEARD OF A CAR'S TRANSMISSION FAILING BEFORE HITTING 100K, LET ALONE A HONDA WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE RELIABLE. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND 100'S OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2004 HONDA ACCORDS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, AND ONE OF THE POST LED ME TO THIS WEBSITE. I'M A VERY CAREFUL DRIVER AND MOST OF THE MILEAGE PUT ON THE CAR HAS BEEN HIGHWAY MILES. I CALLED A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS AND TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD COST ME ABOUT $3500. PLEASE HELP IN THIS CASE AS I'M SURE YOU'VE GOTTEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT HONDA NEEDS TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF RECALL. *TR
