I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOWER SPEED IN A PARKING LOT AT WAL-MART, AND SUDDENLY THE SIDE AIRBAG CURTAINS AND PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG WERE DEPLOYED. AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS 2004 HONDA ACCORD MODEL FOR MY VIN.
MY VEHICLE IS PART OF THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. I HEARD ON THE NEWS THIS MORNING THAT IT MAY TAKE 2-5 YEARS TO COMPLETE THIS RECALL. IN THE MEANTIME WOULD IT BE SAFER TO DISCONNECT THE AIRBAG UNTIL IT CAN BE REPLACED? IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS WOULD BE THE MOST LOGICAL SOLUTION SINCE, EVEN IN A MINOR FENDER BENDER THE AIRBAG COULD POSSIBLY DEPLOY AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY.
TEXTBOOK CASE OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR MY '04 HONDA ACCORD V-6 ON FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2015. CAR FAILED ON THE 15 FWY OUTSIDE OF BARSTOW, CA AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE LOS ANGELES AREA. WHEN I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. MY CAR, THOUGH 11 YEARS OLD, HAD ONLY 89.5K MILES ON IT. IT HAD BEEN SERVICED AT ALL TIMES BY MY HONDA DEALER, INCLUDING TRANSMISSION SERVICE 3 TIMES, INCLUDING JANUARY OF 2015. I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION. HONDA QUOTED ME $5,642.40 FOR THE REPAIR, AND ALSO IN A LETTER DATED 6/24/15 CONFIRMED THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. I "ESCALATED" MY COMPLAINT TO AMERICAN HONDA AND WAS OFFERED $250 "CUSTOMER LOYALTY CARD" WHICH I INITIALLY DECLINED. I THEN CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AGAIN AND RECEIVED A $300 CARD FOR THE INCONVENIENCE THAT WHEN MY CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME BY HONDA THE ENTIRE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM WAS MISSING!! IT TOOK THE HONDA DEALERSHIP 3 DAYS T CONTACT ME AND RETURN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM. I BOUGHT THIS HONDA ACCORD BRAND NEW FROM THE HONDA DEALER AND AM THE ONLY OWNER/DRIVER. I STILL AM WITHOUT A RELIABLE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO REASON THAT A TRANSMISSION, WHICH HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP, SHOULD FAIL WITH LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. HAD I NOT BEEN IN THE DESERT WITH LIGHTER TRAFFIC, I WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN EXTREME CRASH WITH OTHER VEHICLES. HONDA SHOULD REPAIR MY VEHICLE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE CURRENT RECALL FAILS TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL VIN THAT WERE AFFECTED. THEY FOCUS THEIR AD CAMPAIGN ON "HELPFUL", YET THEY DO NOT HELP THEIR HONDA OWNERS. SHAME ON HONDA AND I WOULD LIKE SOME RESULTS.
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ACCORD THAT HAS EXPERIENCE MAJOR PAINT CHIPPING. THE PROBLEM OCCURS ACROSS THE ENTIRE BODY OF THE CAR: THE HOOD, THE ROOF, AND THE TRUNK ARE ALL PEELING AWAY. WHILE THE CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD, THE PAINT WOULD NOT BE DESCRIBED AS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR." HONDA RECENTLY MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE PAINT PROBLEM UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT ONLY UNDER SPECIFIC VIN NUMBERS. MY ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR CLEARLY HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT, A PROBLEM THAT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE COMPANY, BUT IS NOT BEING AMENDED BY THE COMPANY. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO GET IT ON RECORD THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH 2004 HONDA ACCORDS AND THE PAINT USED ON THEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
I WAS DRIVING TO MEET A FRIEND AND NOTICE AN AWFUL SMELL IN THE CAR. I PARKED CAR AT HER HOME AND WAS GONE ABOUT 3 HOURS. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME NOTICE THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM WAS MELTED. I HAVE HEATED LEATHER SEATS. THERE WAS ALSO A SMALL MELTED AREA ON THE SEAT BACK. MY HUSBAND DISCONNECTED THE FUSES UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME. HE LOOKED IT UP ON THE WEB AND SAW REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS, BUT WHEN HE CALLED A HONDA DEALER HE WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS UNHEARD OF. I BEEN SEEING THE AIRBAG COME ON AND OFF WHILE AT A STANDSTILL AND WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION,YESTERDAY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY I UNBUCKLED MY SEATBEAT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON EVEN AFTER I REBUCKLED THE BELT I HEARD ON THE NEWS ABOUT A ISSUE WITH THESE TYPE OF CARS HAVING AIRBAG ISSUE
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, I EXPERIENCED A SPONTANEOUS TOTAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHEN SWITCHING THE DASH CONTROL WHICH POWERS THE DIGITAL THERMOMETER/ODOMETER CONTROL. THIS EFFECTED HEADLIGHTS, STEERING AND BRAKING, AS IF THE CAR WAS TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, BUT I WAS ABLE TO COAST TOWARD THE ROAD SHOULDER.

RADIO STOPPED PLAYING MUSIC AND MAKES LOUD CRACKING NOISE THAT IS STARTLING WHEN DRIVING. WHEN SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS ONLINE, IT WAS SUGGESTED "A CHIP FOR THE AUDIO OUTPUT HAS FAILED AND EXPLODED ON THE INTERNAL PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD." THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS POSTED ONLINE BY OTHER HONDA ACCORD OWNERS. HONDA WON'T FIX AND SOME COMMENTS SAY THAT THE NON-DEALER MECHANICS HAVE FURTHER DAMAGED THE VEHICLE WHEN TRYING FIX THE ISSUE. THE COSTS TO POSSIBLY FIX WITH CHANCES OF CAUSING MORE DAMAGE IS GREATER THAN $500. IF IT'S NOT A COMMON ISSUE, HONDA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECT THE ISSUE. IT IS DANGEROUSLY LOUD SOMETIMES AND CAUSES ME TO LOSE FOCUS ON THE ROAD.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE RPM NEEDLE WENT UP AND DOWN AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND THEN DID NOT RESPOND, AND THEN ACCELERATED AGAIN. THE CAR CONTINUED TO DO THIS A FEW TIMES. WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND MY SPEED WAS REDUCED TO 30 MPH THE CAR STOPPED MOVING ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THEN BACK ON, AND IT MOVED AGAIN BUT, CONTINUED TO STOP MOVING A FEW TIMES AGAIN AFTER THAT. THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS ON A BUSY STREET WITH A LOT OF TRAFFIC, CARS WERE BEHIND ME AND BY ME SUDDENLY STOPPING WITHOUT NOTICE BECAUSE THE CAR STOPPED ON ITS OWN, COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN I COULD HAVE RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS REPORTED ISSUE IS NOT SPECIFIC TO MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD, BUT APPLIES TO MANY VEHICLES. ON ALMOST A WEEKLY BASIS, I SEE PEOPLE DRIVING THEIR CARS AT NIGHT ON FREEWAYS AND CITY STREETS WITHOUT THEIR LIGHTS ON, POSING A DANGER TO OTHER MOTORISTS WHO MIGHT NOT SEE THEM. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THIS CAN BE SOLVED SIMPLY: CHANGE THE LIGHT SWITCH TO NOT ILLUMINATE THE DASHBOARD UNLESS THE LIGHTS ARE ON. MY CAR ALWAYS HAS ITS DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE LIGHTS ARE ON OR NOT. THERE IS A SMALL "IDIOT LIGHT" OF A GREEN HEADLIGHT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT IT HARDLY NOTICEABLE. IF INSTEAD THE CAR'S DASHBOARD WOULD BE DARK WHEN THE LIGHTS AREN'T ON (LIKE IN 25+ YEAR-OLD CARS), I BELIEVE MOST DRIVERS WOULD BE MUCH LESS LIKELY TO FORGET TO TURN THEIR LIGHTS ON -- DO YOU AGREE? *TR
04 HONDA ACCORD V6- D(4) LIGHT STARTS BLINKING. BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSES; 4TH GEAR PRESSURE SWITCH. REPLACED 4TH GEAR PRESSURE SWITCH. CAR SEEMS TO BE WORKING BETTER. 3 DAYS LATER; CAR ONLY GOES UNDER COOL CONDITIONS (TRANNY SEEMS TO WORK WHEN THE CAR HAS NOT REACHED REGULAR / RECOMMENDED OPERATING TEMPERATURE). WHEN IT REACHES NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, THE MOTOR STARTS REVVING, EVEN IN D. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE AT A STOP AND ON A HIGHWAY. WHEN I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR HAD ALREADY WARMED UP, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THEN SUDDENLY JERKED BACK. THE FEELING IS LIKE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR DOWNSHIFTING WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE GAS; IT JERKS THEN DECELERATES. AND FROM THERE IT JUST REVS AND REVS, LIKE IT'S NOT CATCHING THE GEARS. SO I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY A FEW TIMES, THANKS TO THIS NON-WORKING TRANSMISSION. WHEN THIS OCCURS ON THE SMALL ROADS, I WOULD THEN HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE CAR WILL ENGAGE INTO GEAR AGAIN, BUT NOT FOR LONG. THIS IS A PROBABLE SIGN OF OVERHEATING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH CAN PROBABLY CAUSE THE TRANNY TO SLIP? NOT 100% SURE BECAUSE I'M NOT A MECHANIC. SO I WAS REFERRED TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA FOR A RECALL INQUIRY, AND OF COURSE, MY VIN# DOESN'T HAVE AN OPEN RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION, MEANING I PRETTY MUCH SCREWED MYSELF FROM THE START WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE'S A SKETCHY TRANSMISSION IN IT. EVEN IF I GOT IT REPLACED, WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT THE REPLACED ONE DOESN'T DO THE SAME THING? I UNDERSTAND THAT TRANSMISSIONS DO NOT LAST FOREVER ON ANY VEHICLE, BUT IF YOU JUST GOOGLE: 7TH GEN ACCORD TRANSMISSION, YOU CAN READ ALL THE WONDERFUL STORIES ABOUT FAIL HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS, STARTING FROM YEAR 2003; THERE'S A COMMUNITY OF AUTHORS. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD AND WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30 MPH. SHE HAD MY 12 YR OLD IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF A ROAD THAT DIDN'T HAVE A SHOULDER. IT PULLED THE TIRES OFF AND SHE OVERCOMPENSATED SWERVING BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR COMING SO SHE SWERVED BACK TOWARDS THE DITCH AND HIT A POWER POLE HEAD ON. THE AIRBAG ON DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOYED BUT SLOWLY AND WITH VERY LITTLE FORCE AT ALL. MY DAUGHTER DESCRIBED IT AS FALLING OUT AND BARELY INFLATING. HOWEVER, THE OTHER DAUGHTER'S AIRBAG SHOT OUT HARD AND FAST AND CAUSED HER TO BREAK A BONE IN HER RT DOMINANT HAND. SHE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON THAT KNUCKLE/FINGER USING THREE PINS. THEY HAD TO EVENTUALLY GO BACK AND DO SURGERY TO REMOVE THEM SINCE THEY BURIED UNDER THE SKIN. I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS SINCE I WASN'T THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR.

I NOTICED THAT THE SRS LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. HONDA STATES IN THEIR SEAT BELT LIMITED WARRANTY: TIME PERIOD: THIS WARRANTY CONTINUES FOR THE USEFUL LIFE OF THE VEHICLE WARRANTY COVERAGE: HONDA WILL REPAIR OR REPLACE, AT ITS OPTION, ANY HONDA SEAT BELT COMPONENT THAT FAILS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING NORMAL USE. THIS INCLUDES ALL PARTS AND LABOR CHARGES. MY HONDA DEALER (FAIRFAX HONDA 703-934-8500) INFORMED ME THAT THIS WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE COMPONENT NEEDING REPAIR WAS AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. HOWEVER, THE HONDA WARRANTY CLEARLY STATES ANY HONDA SEAT BELT COMPONENT, AND DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL COMPONENTS. FURTHERMORE, BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT, THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL FAIL TO DEPLOY PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT. I FEEL THAT SINCE HONDA HAS INSTITUTED A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON ANY SEAT BELT COMPONENT FAILURE, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT WITHOUT ANY CHARGE TO ME. I WOULD APPRECIATE NHTSA LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER.

AFTERWARDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED WALKER JONES HONDA (2700 MEMORIAL DRIVE, WAYCROSS, GA 31503; 912-283-4250) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR MAY HAVE A FAULTY LIGHT BULB. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 225,000.
HONDA ACCORD WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG SENSOR DID COME ON BUT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG SENSOR REMAINS ON AFTER IMPACT. *TR
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE RECALLED PART SINCE MARCH 2015. I'VE BEEN REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ANY TIME IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR I WORRY THAT I WILL DIE DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE PART WHICH HONDA REFUSES TO SEND TO ANY OF MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, IT STARTED POURING RAIN. I TURNED ON MY WIPERS. WHEN THE WIPERS WERE IN A VERTICAL POSITION THEY STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY LOST VISIBILITY BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING SO HARD. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUT THE WIPER SPEED LEVER IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT POSITIONS BUT NOTHING WOULD MAKE THEM WORK. I CHECKED THE FUSES WHILE I WAITED ON THE RAIN TO STOP. ONCE IT STOPPED RAINING, I RETURNED THE WIPERS TO THE DOWN POSITION AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WIPER MOTOR AND ALSO THE WIPER SWITCH. THE WIPER MOTOR WAS RECALLED FOR THE 2003 ACCORD. I FEEL LIKE A SIMILAR RECALL SHOULD BE DONE FOR THE 2004 ACCORDS. *TR
BATTERY LIGHT CONTINUALLY FLICKERS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT FLICKERS, MY HEADLIGHTS GET VERY DIM, MY A/C FANS FLUCTUATE IN SPEED, AND MY AFTERMARKET STEREO AMPLIFIERS (2) CUT OUT. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THEY TESTED THE BATTERY, STARTER, AND ALTERNATOR. BATTERY HAD A DEAD CELL BUT WAS STILL HOLDING A CHARGE. STARTER AND ALTERNATOR TESTED OK. I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY ON THE SPOT. THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO GET CHECKED AT MULTIPLE AUTO PARTS STORES AND THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP. NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG. EVERY DAY SEEMS TO GET A LITTLE WORSE. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE THE BATTERY LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AND THE CAR LOSES POWER INTERMITTENTLY ALONG WITH ALL OF THE OTHER SYMPTOMS I HAVE ALREADY LISTED. *TR

TAKATA RECALL OF AIR BAGS. HOW CAN I KNOW IF MY CAR IS IN DANGER OF KILLING ME OR MY PRECIOUS GRANDDAUGHTERS IF MY CAR IS IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY? I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH 2015. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED HONDA OF SANTA CRUZ AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. I WENT TO THE APPOINTMENT AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WAS OUT OF PARTS AND UNABLE TO ADDRESS MY AIRBAGS AT THAT TIME. IT IS NOW THE MIDDLE OF JUNE AND NOTHING HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. I AM WORRIED FOR MY LIFE AND MY TEN YEAR OLD SON'S. I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE MY CAR AND CONSTANTLY ANXIOUS ABOUT THIS SAFETY RECALL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE WAY THAT THIS RECALL WAS DEALT WITH.. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW THIS IS GOING TO BE SOLVED.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE RPM NEEDLE BEGAN OSCILLATING RAPIDLY BETWEEN LOW AND HIGH NUMBERS AND THE CAR WAS IN A DISTRESSED STATE. I PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER AND DROVE SLOWLY TO AN EXIT AT WHICH POINTI HAD TO STOP AT A REDLIGHT. ONCE GREEN, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR, INCLUDING REVERSE. I CALLED THE POLICE WHO PUSHED ME OUT OF THE ROAD TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE HONDA FACILITY I USE FOR MAINTENANCE ADVISED THAT I HAVE A TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE COMPANY TO ASSIST. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS . SPECIFICALLY, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR WENT FROM 60 MPH DOWN TO 35 MPH AND WOULD NOT SLIP INTO GEAR. THIS HAPPENED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO ANOTHER FREEWAY. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL WHICH IT WAS NOT. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE AS OTHER VEHICLES WERE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS MY CAR NEARLY CAME TO A HALT ON THE FREEWAY. LUCKILY, I PRAYED MY WAY INTO GEAR AND IT WORKED. IT WAS QUITE SCARY SINCE I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY CHILD I EASILY COULD OF BEEN REAR ENDED. NO SENSOR LIGHTS TURNED ON, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED ROUTINELY AND 2 DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I READ UP ON THE PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO BE COMMON. ON ONE SITE I SAW OVER 200 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND SAME MAKE OF THE CAR. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW MANY MORE COMPLAINTS THERE HAVE BEEN. I HOPE THAT THE FEDERAL AGENCY AND HONDA ACT RESPONSIBLY AND PAY FOR THE RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, MOVED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND ATTEMPTED TO PASS, STEPPING DOWN ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE. SUDDENLY MY (AUTOMATIC) TRANSMISSION SLIPPED COMPLETELY OUT OF GEAR, MY TACHOMETER RED-LINED AS THE ENGINE REVVED HARD, AND THE CARD DECELERATED RAPIDLY. I WAS NEARLY HIT FROM BEHIND BUT FORTUNATE THAT THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION. I SLOWED RAPIDLY, BUT MY BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T COME ON, BECAUSE I WASN'T BRAKING! MY CAR SLOWED TO DANGEROUSLY LOW SPEEDS IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO GIVE THE CAR GAS IT WAS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEUTRAL AND WOULDN'T PROVIDE DRIVE. FINALLY AT AROUND 20MPH IT STARTED GRIPPING, BUT IF I TRIED TO ACCELERATE MUCH THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO MERGE BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE, WHICH WAS SCARY BECAUSE THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE GOING FULL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I DROVE ALONG THE SHOULDER VERY SLOWLY UNTIL I COULD MAKE IT TO THE FIRST EXIT AND LIMP MY CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP. MY TRANSMISSION NEEDED A COMPLETE REBUILD. NO ONLY SHOULD THIS NOT HAPPEN ON A CAR WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, BUT THIS FAILURE WAS DANGEROUS! IT HAPPENED COMPLETELY WITHOUT WARNING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE. IT CAUSED A RAPID DECELERATION AND A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PLACED ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION TRYING TO REGAIN CONTROL. I RESEARCHED MY PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT HONDA HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS ON A LARGE NUMBER OF 2003/2004 ACCORDS. I CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AGAINST THE RECALL (NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 04V-176) AND FOUND THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH I EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME FAILURE THAT THE RECALL DESCRIBES. WHY MY VIN SPECIFICALLY WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE CONSIDERING THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR

I SUFFERED LUNG/HEART/BODY TRAUMA (ESPECIALLY DUE TO AIRBAG AND SEATBELT) AND A MAJOR CONCUSSION. WHEREVER THE AIRBAG HIT AND SEATBELT LAY- I'M A RAINBOW OF COLORS. I AM LOOKING AT A LENGTHY RECOVERY AND UNABLE TO RETURN TO WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS, UNABLE TO TAKE COLLEGE FINALS, NOR CAN I RETURN TO COLLEGE NEXT SEMESTER DUE TO HEART TRAUMA.
