TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF BRAKE DUST LOCATED ON THE REAR WHEELS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE BRAKING AT ANY SPEED THAT IT FELT AS THOUGH THE REAR BRAKES WERE PULLING ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE BRAKES EXHIBITED NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 50,000. UPDATED 03/24/11*LJ UPDATED 05/02/11
PURCHASED HONDA ACCORD EXLV6 IN 02/08. REAR BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING AT 3K MILES. BROUGHT THE CAR INTO BAY RIDGE DEALERSHIP IN BROOKLYN NY AND WORK WAS DONE TO THE ROTORS AND/OR REAR BRAKE PADS NUMEROUS TIMES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MGR ON EVERY OIL CHANGE AND THEY'RE WELL AWARE OF THE SITUATION. I WAS TOLD EVERYONE'S WAITING FOR HONDA TO ISSUE RECALL. I HAVE SENT LETTERS TO HONDA IN 2008 & 2009 TO FILE COMPLAINTS . THE ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AND IN VARIOUS MAGAZINES. HONDA TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, BUT THAT IS NOT SATISFACTORY. ASIDE FROM THE NOISE, THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE HERE AS THE BRAKING DISTANCE SEEMS LONGER. I WAS FINALLY SO FRUSTRATED THAT I WENT TO A TRUSTED LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE REAR BRAKE PADS NEEDED REPLACING IMMEDIATELY. APPROX 18K MILES. THE IRONIC PART IS THAT HE TOLD ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SOON BECAUSE HE KNOWS THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AND WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY.
REAR BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURELY AT 29,000 MILES. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE PADS ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD ARE WEARING TOO QUICKLY. I REPLACED THEM AFTER 23,760 MILES. MY CO-WORKER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THEN TAPPING THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, SUDDENLY THE RPM DISPLAY CONSOLE SHOW THE NEEDLE REVUP FROM 1.5 TO 3 , AND ENGINE ROAR LIGHTLY WHEN BRAKE IS TAPPED TO SLOW DOWN TO GET INTO THE RAMP. WHEN BRAKING AGAIN WHILE ENTERING INTO THE RAMP, THE RPM GET DOWN BACK TO ABOUT 1.5, AND THE ENGINE IS IDLE BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAPPEN EVERY TIME WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AT ABOUT 55-65 MPH TO GET IN THE EXIT. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD 30,000 MILES AND NEEDS A REAR BRAKE SYSTEM CHANGE FOR THE SECOND TIME. I ALREADY CHANGED THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM AT 17000 MILES AT 15 MONTHS OF PURCHASE AND NOW AFTER 7 MORE MONTHS THE HONDA ASKED ME TO CHANGE MY REAR BRAKES AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD THAT HAS PREMATURE BRAKE WARE. I HAVE 34,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE PADS TWICE AND THE ROTORS ONCE! THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS IN MY LIFE, AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A BRAKE SYSTEM DESIGNED SO POORLY. I HAVE FOUND ONLINE THAT HONDA KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO IMPLEMENT A FIX AND RECALL THIS MODEL, WHICH WOULD BE THE ETHICAL THING TO DO. THEY NEED TO OWN UP TO THE DESIGN FLAW AND COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. WE ALL KNOW HOW IMPORTANT GOOD BRAKES ARE TO THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE ON THE ROAD. *TR
I STARTED TO HEAR SQUEAKING AT AROUND 14K MILES, AT WHICH POINT I FOUND IT SUSPICIOUS AND RESEARCHED MULTIPLE SIMILAR OCCURRENCES ONLINE. I ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA ADVISING OF THE "POTENTIAL" SAFETY ISSUE, WHICH ALSO RECOMMENDED TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND ASKED IF THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR THIS INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT, AND THEY SAID THAT IF THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WAS NOT RELATED TO THE ISSUE THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED. I DID NOT LIKE THEIR RESPONSE AND ARGUED ABOUT IT, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY HAD TO SIGN A FORM TO ACCEPT THE DISCLAIMER IN ORDER FOR THE INSPECTION TO BE PERFORMED. THE PROBLEM WAS IN FACT RELATED TO THE SAFETY NOTICE AND WAS REPAIRED AT NO CHARGE. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND OFF FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. WHEN I BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAY I HAVE NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THIS GOES ON EVERY OTHER MONTH AND THEY HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. MY CAR IS STILL FORTUNATELY UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT IS THERE MORE DAMAGE BEING DONE THAT ONCE I REACH MY WARRANTY THE CAR WILL BE WORTHLESS? THE DEALER AND AMERICAN HONDA HAVE BEEN USELESS IN THIS MATTER AND HAVE TOLD ME TO DRIVE MY CAR WITH EVERY WARNING LIGHT ON UNTIL THEY CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT. I OWN A 2008 HONDA ACCORD AND IN FEB. 2009 I HAD 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED BY HONDA AT A COST OF $86.55 WHICH WAS ABOUT HALF THE PRICE OF THE REPAIR. IN FEB. 2010 AT 30,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES WERE DOWN TO THE SENSORS AND THEY HAD TO BE REPLACE AGAIN. I HAVE OWNED A 1999 AND HAVE A 2007 HONDA ACCORD AND NEVER REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES UNTIL THEY HAD AR LEASE 45,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR BRAKES ON THE 2008 AND 2009 HONDA ACCORD. CANADA HAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN FOR THE REAR BRAKES. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACE AT NO CHARGE IN FEB.2010 AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR MY $86.55 THAT I PAID IN FEB. 2009 BUT HONDA REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THE REAR BRAKES HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO DO THIS CAUSE IT WILL COST THEM MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. I HOPE WE ARE NOT LOOKING AT ANOTHER TOYOTA SITUATION. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES WEARING OUT SIGNIFICANTLY AT LOW MILEAGE. PERHAPS IN THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL/STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM; TWEAKED THE REAR BRAKES TO ENGAGE EARLIER/HARDER THAN NORMAL. I THINK AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR WAS TRYING TO ELIMINATE SOME FRONT END NOSE DIVE WHEN YOU APPLIED THE BRAKES. BOTTOM LINE, REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING OUT AT AN EXCESSIVE RATE. *TR
14,000 MILES ON 2008 HONDA ACCORD XL V6 ES, DEALER REPLACED ROTORS WITHIN 3 WKS OF OUR PURCHASE. 4 WKS LATER, STOPPING AT LIGHT, BRAKES PULLED ME LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAD CAR TESTED BY DEALER AND SVC MANAGER, COULD NOT DUPLICATE. WORRISOME! *TR
REAR AND FRONT BRAKE PAD WEAR UNEVENLY AND VERY FAST AT LOW MILEAGE. THESE BRAKES PAD SUPPOSE TO LAST ABOUT 80,000 MILES. ALSO BRAKES SQUEALS AND MAKES EXCESSIVE NOISE WHICH SHOULD NOT BE PRESENT ON BRAND NEW VEHICLE AT LOW MILEAGE. *TR
WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO WATER, WATER LEAKS IN THROUGH A SUNROOF DRAINAGE TUBE, ENTERING THE VEHICLE ADJACENT TO THE REAR, PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. PER HONDA, IT WAS CAUSED BY A LEAF ENTERING THE DRAIN, AND IS SOMETHING I RISK HAPPENING ANYTIME THIS SUNROOF IS OPEN, OPERATING UNDER "NORMAL USE." AS CONFIRMED BY HONDA, BECAUSE THEIR SUNROOF CASSETTE DESIGN ALLOWS FOR THIS, THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO MITIGATE THE RISK, AND THERE IS NO WAY I CAN BE AWARE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED UNTIL THE DAMAGE IS DONE. ADDITIONALLY, NOWHERE IN ANY MANUAL DOES IT WARN OWNERS OF THIS RISK, THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS, AND ACTIONS TO TAKE. PER HONDA, IT MAY OCCUR AGAIN, BUT ALL I CAN DO IS WAIT AND SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, IN WHICH CASE THEY'LL 'FIX' IT THE SAME WAY, AND AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE DRAINS WERE DISASSEMBLED AND CLEANED, AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT NO DAMAGE HAD YET OCCURRED TO THE AIRBAGS, ELECTRICAL, UPHOLSTERY (MOLD), OR METAL (RUST/CORROSION). HONDA IS NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE ANY RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE ACTIONS (IN ADDITION TO THEIR STANDARD RECOMMENDATIONS, WHICH DO NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE), THUS THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY TO CONTINUE TO OCCUR. *TR

I HAVE A 2008 ACCORD AND THE BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING AT AROUND 1000 MILES SO TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND IT NEEDED A BREAK IN PERIOD. THEN AROUND 10K MILES NOISE GOT SO LOUD THAT I CAN HEAR IT WITH THE WINDOW UP AND RADIO ON. NOW AT 20K MILES THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS FOR BOTH FRONT AND THE BACK. ON MY OLD TOYOTA TACOMA I DID NOT NEEDED NEW PADS UNTIL AROUND 70K MILES. I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE DESIGN. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CONCERNS ON THE WEB ABOUT THE PREMATURE WEAR. *TR
HONDA ACCORD FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED AT 10000 MILES. HONDA DEALER REPAIRED. BRAKES CONTINUE TO SQUEAL OCCASIONALLY. *TR
ON A 2008 HONDA ACCORD BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAK AT 24,000 MILES (HIGHWAY MILES), TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT REAR BRAKES ARE WORN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. ASKED WHY THE BRAKES WORE OUT WITH SO LITTLE MILES AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE BRAKES ARE A "SOFT PAD". REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND ROTORS WERE CUT. I PAID FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE BRAKES. *TR
VARIABLE CYLINDER MANAGEMENT TRANSMISSION UNEXPECTEDLY SURGES IN TRAFFIC. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, OR SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS, A SUDDEN UNEXPECTED SURGE IN THE CAR COULD RESULT IN HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING HE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE, BUT HE DID NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPING WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH REAR CALIPER WERE RUSTED AND IT WAS BECAUSE HE DIDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE ENOUGH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD REMOVE THE RUST. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE CALIPERS WERE BUILD WITH DEFECTIVE METAL AND THAT IS WHY THE CALIPERS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
PURCHASED MY ACCORD NEW OFF THE LOT.1ST PROBLEM CAME EXACTLY 1 MONTH LATER 2 SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. OIL LIGHT CONSISTENTLY STAYED ON I WAS HAVING TO CHANGE OR ADD OIL ALL THE TIME. IVE BEEN TO EVERY HONDA DEALER IN SAN DIEGO. MISSION VALLEY FINALLY AGREED TO A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BUT THEY ASSURED ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. THEIR SOLUTION WAS ANYTIME I NEEDED OIL I COULD STOP BY ANY HONDA DEALERSHIP & THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO TOP IT OFF FOR ME. BECAUSE OF THIS OIL PROBLEM & THE SENSOR CONSISTENTLY STAYING ON THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER & SHOT OUT THE TIMING BELT. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN MY DRIVEWAY SINCE LAST JULY2015. AFTER SENDING HONDA NUMEROUS LETTERS RON FROM HONDA MOTOR CO FINALLY CONTACTED ME. FINAL RESULT HIS RECOMMENDATION WAS TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST TO BE DONE & IF THERES ANY OTHER PROBLEMS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ONLY COVERED FOR 60,000 MILES. I'M SO OVER THIS CAR & HONDA. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING A HONDA!
THE REAR INSIDE BRAKE PADS ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD, WHICH HAS 25K MILES, ARE SEVERELY WORN AND IHAD TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED. THE REAR OUTSIDE BRAKE PADS, HOWEVER, SHOW NORMAL WEAR FOR THE CAR'S MILEAGE. AN INTERNET SEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM INDICATED THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AFFECTING 2008 HONDA ACCORDS AND REPRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR

VERY ODD SINCE 90% OF MY DRIVING IS INTERSTATE AND MY LAST CAR WENT 80K+ MI BEFORE MY FIRST BRAKE JOB. WENT ON LINE AND IT SEEMS MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT HAS INSTALLED AND OWNS A BRITAX MODEL # E9L0227 REAR FACING CHILD SAFETY SEAT WHICH WAS MANUFACTURED ON 7/7/09 . THE TETHER STRAP BECAME TANGLED ON THE SECOND DAY SHE INSTALLED IT INTO THE VEHICLE. SHE ALSO ADJUSTED THE STRAPS ON THE CHILD SEAT; HOWEVER, THEY REPEATEDLY BECAME LOOSE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SHE NEEDED TO RETURN THE SEAT AND REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER CHILD SAFETY SEAT. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE SECOND CHILD SAFETY SEAT WHICH WAS THE SAME BRAND NAME AND MODEL. I DIDN'T BELIEVE THEM BECAUSE IT ONLY HAD 23K ON IT. I PICKED IT UP FROM THEM, WITH NO REPAIR, AND TOOK IT TO JUST BRAKES FOR THE SECOND OPINION. THEY CONFIRMED THE NEED FOR THE BRAKE REPAIR. I HAD THEM DO IT. I AM NOW IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR $144.00. *TR

AT 25,111 MILES BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING AND WORE DOWN. REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND CLEANED ROTORS STILL SQUEAKED. PAID $195.00. HAD A COUPLE OF SERVICES AND COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKES BUT THEY TOLD ME SINCE THEY WERE NEW THEY WILL SQUEAK FOR A WHILE UNTIL THEY BREAK IN. FINALLY HAD ENOUGH OF THE SQUEAKY BRAKES, WENT BACK IN FOR SERVICE AT 33,037 MILES. BRAKES STILL SQUEAKING. FRONT PADS 7.8MM REAR PADS 6.2MM. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACE PADS AGAIN!! AND RESURFACE ROTORS $249.00 SPECIAL. DID NOT REPLACE!! AT 60,601 MILES HAD TO REPLACE REAR BRAKES AGAIN CHARGE $257.00. *TR
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED PREMATURE REAR BRAKE PAD WEAR AFTER 21500 MILES ON A 2008 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX-L SEDAN. I PURCHASED REPLACEMENT PADS FOR THE FRONT BRAKES, BUT WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED WHEN I FOUND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS SHOWING LITTLE TO NO WEAR. A QUICK CHECK OF THE REAR PADS REVEALED THE BRAKES COMPLETELY WORN DOWN! WE HAVE NEVER LEFT THE PARKING BRAKE ON THE CAR, WHEN IN MOTION. I AM 44 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NEVER WITNESSED A CAR WEARING ITS REAR PADS BEFORE THE FRONT ONES AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE FRONTS LOOK NEW. ALSO, I AM WONDERING HOW THIS EXCESSIVE BRAKE WEAR HAS BEEN AFFECTING OUR GAS MILEAGE, AS WE HAVE YET TO ACHIEVE HONDA'S MPG RATINGS EVEN WHEN RUNNING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON ONLY 4 CYLINDERS (ECO MODE ONE V6 EX-L). THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST HONDA FOR THE 08-09 ACCORD REAR BRAKING SYSTEM AND HONDA AND THEIR DEALERSHIPS ARE BLAMING THE OWNERS FOR IMPROPER DRIVING HABITS. GIRARD GIBBS LLP AND CO-COUNSEL FILED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN SEPTEMBER 2009 AGAINST HONDA, RELATED TO THE REAR BRAKING SYSTEMS IN THE 2008-2009 HONDA ACCORD VEHICLES. THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA SEEKS CERTIFICATION OF A NATIONWIDE CLASS ON BEHALF OF OWNERS AND LEASEES OF 2008-2009 HONDA ACCORD VEHICLES. THE CASE IS PENDING IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA BEFORE JUDGE MORROW. ALSO, APPARENTLY HONDA OF AMERICA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS THE NEW SAFETY DESIGN THAT COMES STANDARD WITH THE CAR (VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST, TRACTION CONTROL, ANTI-LOCK, ETC) HAS HAD AN UNANTICIPATED AFFECT ON THE LIFE OF THE REAR BRAKE PADS. AT THIS POINT HONDA SHOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL ON ALL 2008-2009 ACCORDS TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. *TR
REAR BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING DOWN PREMATURELY. I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L AND HAVE GONE THREW TWO PAD REPLACEMENTS AND ONE SET OF ROTORS REPLACED AND AM ABOUT TO REPLACE ROTORS AGAIN. I CONTACTED HONDA TO INFORM THEM THAT TWO MECHANICS HAVE SEEN THE BRAKE PADS FROM THE FRONT AND THE REAR. THEY WERE AMAZED AT HOW QUICKLY THE REAR PADS WEAR DOWN. HONDA RESPONSE THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NEW AND THE BRAKING POWER NOW HAS A 60 - 40 DISTRIBUTION. 60 % ON THE REAR AND 40% ON THE FRONT. EVERY MECHANIC THAT I'VE SPOKE TO ABOUT THIS STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS REAR WHEEL DRIVE THEN THEY CAN UNDERSTAND "SOMEWHAT" BUT FOR A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE THE FRONT BRAKES SHOULD BE TAKING MOST OF THE POWER TO STOP. NEVER THE LESS , HONDA STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND THAT THEY WERE CORRECTING THE ISSUE BUT MY CASE IS NOT THE SAME. EVERY ONLINE ARTICLE I READ SHOWED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I ENCOUNTERED. ALL I WANT IS MY BRAKES TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE I DIE OR ANY ONE OF MY KIDS DIE. SOMEWHERE ONLINE I WAS TOLD THAT A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED WITH HONDA WITH REGARDS TO THE BRAKE WEAR. *TR

BRAKES STARTED MAKING NOISE. TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN INSPECTION. PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH LESS THAN 25,000 ON THE NEW CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 08 HONDA ACCORD EX-L IN MARCH 08. AROUND 10K MILES I STARTED NOTICING DURING LIGHT BRAKING THE BRAKES WOULD SQUEAK. I FIGURED THE PADS WERE JUST BRAKING IN AND THAT THE BRAKE DUST WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. AFTER WASHING AND WAXING MY ACCORD I INSPECTED AND CHECKED THE BRAKE CALIBERS, PADS AND SHIMS TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE NOISE. I NOTICED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAD LITTLE TO NO PAD REMAINING. I REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS WITH LESS THAN 13K MILES. I PAID IT NO MIND BECAUSE I'M A MECHANIC, BUT NOW I'M CONCERNED. I CURRENTLY HAVE 24K MILES ON IT AND AGAIN I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME BRAKE SQUEAKING NOISE. I HAVE PURCHASED EIGHT HONDAS, THREE NEW AND FIVE USED. I CURRENTLY HAVE FOUR WITH OVER 850K MILES ON THEM TOTAL. THROUGHOUT MY HONDA MANIA, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A HONDA DEFICIENCY. TODAY, I HAVE READ COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS AGAINST HONDA DEALERSHIPS AND HONDA AMERICA. MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD VIBRATES VERY RAPIDLY WHEN BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AT 29,500 MILES. I THEN CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AND TOLD THEM MY PROBLEM THINKING THERE MUST BE A DEFECT IN THEIR BRAKE PADS TO CAUSE SUCH A PROBLEM AT 20,000 MILES BUT WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL "WEAR AND TEAR" AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT MY SITUATION. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST VEHICLE I HAVE BEEN THE OWNER OF AND HAVE PURCHASED MANY HONDAS BEFORE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE PROBLEM AT 20,000 MILES LET ALONE ONE THAT SHOOK THE CAR SO VIOLENTLY THAT I THOUGHT I WOULD LOOSE CONTROL AND HAVE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND MANY 2008-2010 ACCORD OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE BEING TOLD THE SAME THING FROM THEIR HONDA DEALERS AND AMERICAN HONDA. BUT IT SEEMS THE REAL PROBLEM IS HONDA'S NEW "ORGANIC BRAKE PAD" THAT HEATS UP SO MUCH THAT IT WARPS THE BRAKE ROTOR WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE; THIS IS WHY HONDA JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW REPLACEMENT BRAKE PAD MADE FROM DIFFERENT MATERIAL FROM THE ORIGINAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. DURING A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION HE WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED SINCE THEY WERE WORN OUT PREMATURELY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE NO LIABILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER STATED THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IS DATED JANUARY 10, 2010 FOR THE EXACT FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 25,000.

I EXPERIENCED THE KNOWN ISSUE OF PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR WITH THE 2008-2009 ACCORDS. I HEARD A HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND SO I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE SHOP. THEY SAID I MY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE BAD. SO I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT IT IS GOING TO KEEP OCCURRING EVERY 12-15,000 MILES. APPARENTLY HONDA SWITCHED THE REAR BRAKES TO USE SMALLER (AND APPARENTLY UNDERSIZED) ROTORS & THAT'S WHY THE REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING OUT SO FAST. MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L STARTED MAKING A SMALL RATTLE NOISE IN DECEMBER 2009, THE CAR SALES MAN SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THE CAR NEEDED TO WARM UP AND BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SITTING FOR A WHILE. A COUPLE YEARS LATER I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD IT CHECKED, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT HEAR THE SOUND. THIS WAS NOT DOCUMENTED BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. IN JUNE OF 2012, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN AFTER I NOTICED THE SOUND MORE FREQUENTLY. THEY LET THE VEHICLE SIT OVER NIGHT AND INFORMED ME THE NEXT MORNING THAT THE VTC ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS TIME I HAD EXCEEDED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES WHEN THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. ON OCTOBER 3, 2012 MY OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON AND THEN BACK OFF. I HAD MY FATHER TO CHECK THE OIL AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO OIL IN THE CHAMBER. I IMMEDIATELY WENT AND PURCHASED 3 QUARTS OF OIL UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER. I CALLED STERLING MCCALL HONDA AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE THAT I WAS EXPERIENCING AND WAS SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE TO VEHICLE CHECKED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE REP, I BEGAN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WERE ON THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. (THE RATTLE AT A COLD START UP AND OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES RELATING THE VTC ACTUATOR.) AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH I OBTAINED A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE RATTLE AT COLD START UP AND FOUND A COURT DOCUMENT RELATING TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN MARCH 2012 RELATING TO THE FAULTY VTC ACTUATOR. THE NEXT MORNING OCTOBER 4, 2012 I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN, HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND ASKED FOR A GOODWILL CONSIDERATION. AFTER SPEAKING TO A HONDA SERVICE REP ABOUT THE ISSUE HE STATED THAT HE DOUBT THE POSSIBILITY OF GETTING A GOODWILL CONSIDERATION BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS NOT ASSISTED IN GETTING REPAI. *TR
ON MARCH 25, 2009, I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 HONDA ACCORD. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, I'VE NOTICED BRAKE NOISE SMELLS, WHICH I WAS SURE COULDN'T POSSIBLE BE COMING FROM MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS TOO NEW. WHEN I WENT FOR MY 5000 MILE SERVICE CHECK, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE BRAKES WERE SHOWING SOME SIGN OF WEAR, BUT WERE OK FOR NOW. I PLANNED ON HAVING THEM CHECKED AGAIN DURING THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. ON 12/29/09 WHEN LEAVING WORK, MY BRAKES DID NOT STOP MY CAR ON COMMAND AS IT USUALLY DOES. I WAS GOING NO MORE THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR WHEN I STOPPED FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I FELT A DRAGGING OR SCRAPING WHICH TOLD ME IT WAS TIME TO GET THE BRAKES CHECKED REAL SOON. THAT EVENING, MY SON WENT ON A GROCERY RUN FOR ME. ON HIS WAY HOME, HE TRIED TO STOP FOR A STOP SIGN, WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR DID NOT STOP AND RAMMED INTO A TREE. MY 9 MONTH OLD ACCORD IS NOW TOTALED DUE THE FAILING BRAKES. IS HONDA GOING TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THIS? *TR
TOOK MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE DISC/DRUMS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. MY CAR HAS ONLY 17693 MILES! I WAS SHOCKED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT HONDA HAS A REPLACEMENT PART - 43022-TA0-A51AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT WAS PUT IN MY CAR. HONDA SPLIT THE COST. IF HONDA HAS A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE DEFECTIVE ONE, THEN THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE WHOLE THING. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD PAY ANYTHING.
