I BROUGHT MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L 4 CYL IN FOR THE SECOND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON JULY 7, 2009. I WAS SUBSEQUENTLY INFORMED THAT MY REAL BRAKES WERE SHOT, THAT I NEEDED REPLACEMENT PADS AND MY ROTORS TURNED. I WAS ASTOUNDED, I ONLY HAD 14,897 MILES ON IT. MY FRONT BRAKES WERE WORN DOWN TO 7 MM OUT OF 8MM! MY REAR PADS WERE WORN DOWN TO 1 MM OF SURFACE PAD! THEY WERE BASICALLY GONE! THE RED LINE FOR REAR BRAKE REPLACEMENT IS 3 MM OR 4/32 FOR DISC BRAKES. MY BRAKES NEVER SQUEALED AT ALL! NO WARNING! NO NOTHING?.. THE SERVICE REP STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING THESE THINGS AS OF LATE WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION OR WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT AND THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I TOLD HER THAT MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT YOUR FRONT BRAKES PRIMARILY DO THE STOPPING OF THE CAR AND THAT YOU SHOULD GET AT LEAST 30-35,000 OR MORE MILES OUT OF YOUR REAR BRAKES. ( MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS 40,000 ON THE REARS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED SHORTLY.) SHE SAID THE BRAKE REPLACEMENT WOULD RUN ABOUT $ 230+, BUT SHE WOULD TALK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER TO SEE IF THEY COULD OFFER SOMETHING OFF ON THE REPAIR JOB, MAYBE SPLIT THE COST. SHE STATED THAT THE CAR WAS OVER THE 12 MONTH/12,000 BASIC WARRANTY WHICH WOULD HAVE COVERED THIS PROBLEM. THEY GAVE ME A FREE RENTAL; I WENT TO MY OFFICE AND FOUND THIS SITE AND ALL THE HORROR STORIES. I CALLED THE SERVICE REP, SHE SAID THAT THEY WOULD SPLIT THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I TOLD HER WHAT I FOUND OUT AND THAT THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I TOLD THE REP THAT I WANTED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP. THAT I DON?T THINK THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR ANYTHING, THAT THEY KNEW THERE WAS A DANGEROUS FLAW WITH THIS CAR WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO ME. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT A HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS THERE THAT DAY; I ALSO WANTED TO SPEAK WITH HER. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L V6 COUPE, AND AFTER ONLY 13,000 OR SO MILES I BEGAN HEARING A TERRIBLE METAL ON METAL SCRAPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEEL WELL. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHO INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL CAR, BUT THAT IT WAS NOT ON RECALL "YET". AFTER ONE DAY OF DRIVING WITH THE NOISE I FELT A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN MY VEHICLE'S BREAKING AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. I INFORMED THE DEALER OF THIS AND WAS TOLD THAT ANY ABNORMAL BRAKE WEAR WILL EFFECT MY VEHICLES STABILITY ASSIST SYSTEM (SAS) WHICH CONTROLS THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION, SPEED, ACCELERATION, ETC.. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR INTO A REPAIR SHOP (NOT THE DEALER DUE TO THEIR ABSORBENT PRICES) THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT MY REAR INTERIOR BRAKEPAD WAS WORN DOWN TO THE INDICATORS. UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET THIS FIXED BECAUSE HONDA INFORMED ME THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT THEY ARE NOT COVERING THE COST BECAUSE A RECALL IS NOT IN PLACE YET. I HAVE CHECKED SEVERAL CONSUMER WEBSITES WHEREIN THIS HAS BEEN NOTED AS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. EVERY 12,000-15,000 MILES OR SO THE REAR BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. I AM CONCERNED DUE TO THE RAPID PACE THAT THE BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT AT AND AM FEARFUL THAT MY VEHICLE (AND OTHERS LIKE IT) WILL LOOSE STABILITY AND RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED. THE DEALERSHIPS MAKE EXCUSES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WHEN CONTACTING HONDA AMERICA THEY ACT AS IF THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. CARCOMPLAINTS.COM HAS 350 COMPLAINTS AND COUNTING AS OF 7/9/09 SO I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT HONDA AMERICA HAS NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM. I SAVED MY OLD PARTS AND THE RECEIPT/INVOICE FROM THE REPAIR PLACE I WENT TO AND AM EXPECTING A RECALL TO BE ISSUED (EVENTUALLY) SO THAT I AS WELL AS HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHERS CAN BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS UNNECESSARY EXPENSE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE TO GET A RECALL ?! *TR
REAR BRAKES ON A 2008 HONDA ACCORD V6 PREMATURELY WORE OUT AT 26,000 MILES. *TR
THE HONDA 2008 ACCORD HAD A PROBLEM WHICH IS BRAKE PADS PREMATURELY WORN. THERE ARE 388 BRAKE PROBLEM REPORTS OUT OF 527 TOTAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT HONDA 2008 ACCORD AT JULY 2009. IT IS RELATED THE SAFETY ISSUE AND HONDA SHOULD RECALL THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT OF BRAKE. *TR
DURING REGULAR DRIVING, 2008 HONDA ACCORD HAS DISPLAYED EXCESSIVE REAR BRAKE WEAR. OVER 38,000 MILES, REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THIS INCLUDED NEW ROTORS AS WELL AS PADS. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES AIR CONDITION BLOWS OUT HOT AIR *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER, A ROCK MUST HAVE KICKED UP FROM THE ROAD AND PENETRATED THE CONDENSER FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS TWICE IN LESS THAN A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO TOLD HER THAT THE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS HAD TO REPLACED AGAIN. MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A THIRD TIME. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
PREMATURE WEARING OF REAR BRAKES ON 2008 HONDA ACCORD. I ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THEM ONCE AT 12,000 MILES AND JUST TOOK IT IN AGAIN FOR SERVICE AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN SOON. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2008 HONDA ACCORD ON NOVEMBER 30, 2007. MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING SHORTLY AFTER. SQUEAKY BRAKES DO NOT INDICATE A DEFECT SO I WAITED UNTIL MY FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 8K MILES BUT THE SQUEAKING DID NOT GO AWAY. I COMPLAINED TO THE SERVICE REP WHO SAID THEY VISUALLY INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. THEY SUGGESTED IT WOULD GO AWAY. AT 12K MILES AND MY SECOND OIL CHANGE, I HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT. AGAIN THEY INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND SAID THEY LOOKED FINE, AND THAT IT COULD BE A PIECE OF ROCK STUCK IN THERE SOMEWHERE, AND IT WOULD COST IF THEY WERE TO DO A THOROUGH INSPECTION. THIS TREND CONTINUED TO MY FOURTH OIL CHANGE WHERE THE TECH SUGGESTED THAT MY BRAKES WOULD BE DUE FOR REPLACEMENT DURING MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. I COULDN'T WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT OIL CHANGE BECAUSE MY BRAKES WERE SQUEALING TO THE POINT OF EMBARRASSMENT. WITHIN THE SAME MONTH, I HAD THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED. THE TECH AGREED THAT IT WAS TIME AND IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT TO THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. I PAID JUST UNDER $200 FOR THIS SERVICE. IT HASN'T BEEN A MONTH AND MY FRONT BRAKES ARE ALSO SQUEAKING TO THE POINT OF EMBARRASSMENT. I THINK THIS IS ABSURD FOR A NEW CAR. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, A SALES MANAGER, AND ONE OTHER PERSON WHO IS ABOVE BOTH OF THEM. THEY ARE ALL TELLING ME THE SAME THING. I INSISTED THAT IT WASN'T NORMAL FOR *NEW* CAR BRAKES TO START SQUEAKING AND TO *KEEP* SQUEAKING. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT I DO MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING SO THE BRAKES SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT THAT FAST. THE SALES MANAGER HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME THAT THE BRAKES ON THIS MODEL ARE KNOWN FOR SQUEAKING AND IT IS NORMAL FOR THEM TO CONTINUE SQUEAKING. THEY THEN OFFERED TO INSPECT THEM FOR $30 OR SERVICE THEM FOR $240, WHICH I DECLINED. I HAVE READ THE WARRANTY DOCUMENTATION AND HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW THE ADVISED PROCEDURE, HOPEFULLY TO A FAIR RESOLUTION. MY ONLY REGRET IS NOT STARTING THIS PROCESS SOONER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. WHEN THE CONTACT CLOSED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS AND THE FRONTAL PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HIS VIN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 20,000.

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAD PREMATURE WEAR. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THERE WERE OTHER REPORTS OF IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 26,000.
THE REAR INSIDE BRAKE PADS ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD, WHICH HAS 23K MILES, ARE SEVERELY WORN AND HAD TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED. THE REAR OUTSIDE BRAKE PADS, HOWEVER, SHOW NORMAL WEAR FOR THE CAR'S MILEAGE. AN INTERNET SEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM INDICATED THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AFFECTING 2008 TO PRESENT HONDA ACCORDS AND REPRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *CN

2008 HONDA ACCORD - WENT IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT 16,000 MILES. REAR BRAKE PADS AT 2MM AND WAS TOLD THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR, THE BRAKES WERE NOT MAKING ANY NOISE OR INDICATION THEY WERE WORN OUT. BEING CHARGED BY HONDA DEALERSHIP $300 TO REPLACE. MY REAR BRAKES ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD ARE SHOT AFTER 25,000 MILES. I HAD TO GET THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND ROTORS FIXED AT A COST OF $276. THIS SEEMS VERY PREMATURE FOR A NEW CAR. MY HONDA ACCORD SEDAN EX HAD REAR BRAKES REPLACED AT 25,744 MILES. I STARTED HEARING A METAL SCRAPPING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR WHEN BACKING UP. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT MY REAR BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED. HE TOLD ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY AS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR & TEAR.HE ASKED ME IF I "BRAKE LIGHTLY" AS THIS MAY HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE REASONS WHICH LED TO THIS PROBLEM. BELIEVE ME, I AM A BIT NAIVE ABOUT CARS, BUT I DIDN'T THINK THAT I HAD THE CAR LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE TO HAVE NEW BAKE PADS INSTALLED, NEEDLESS TO SAY THE REAR VERSUS THE FRONT. I AM HOPEFUL THAT HONDA DOES THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUES A RECALL TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM (OR AT LEAST SUPPLEMENT OUR REPAIR BILLS. (AVG $212.00). MY FEAR IS THAT A DRIVER NOT ADDRESS THE SCRAPPING NOISE THEY HEAR IN A TIMELY MANNER AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE FAULTY BRAKES. THANK YOU. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE REAR DISC BRAKE PADS WORE OUT BEFORE 28,000 MILES & HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE HONDA DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY ACCORDS & AT THIS TIME HONDA HAS NO INFORMATION WHEN OR IF A REDESIGN OF THE REAR PADS IS BEING CONSIDERED. THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY COVERED ISSUE & OWNERS PAY FULL COST TO REPLACE THE PADS. THE SERVICING HONDA DEALER STATED THAT MORE FREQUENT BRAKE INSPECTIONS SHOULD BE DONE THAN WHAT MAY BE CONSIDERED NORMAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED EXCESSIVELY LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL. HE STATED THAT THERE WERE TWO QUARTS OF OIL USED FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
2008 HONDA ACCORD LX-P PURCHASED IN AUGUST, 2008 NOW REQUIRES COMPLETE BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 20,026 MILES ON THE REAR BRAKES. STRANGE THAT REAR BRAKES WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT ON A FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE CAR AFTER SO FEW MILES. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE SEEING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. SOME ONLY AFTER 6,000 MILES. *TR
THE PLASTIC SUN VISOR SPLIT AT THE SEAM. NOW IT WILL NOT FOLD UP FLAT AGAINST THE CEILING, CAUSING IT TO BE A VISIBILITY ISSUE. THE VISOR WILL NOT FOLD ALL THE WAY OUT, THEREFORE BLOCKING MORE OF THE ROAD THAN PREFERRED. SINCE IT WILL NOT FOLD UP EITHER, IT STICKS OUT DIRECTLY AT MY HEAD. THIS VISOR BREAKS ABOUT EVERY 10,000 MILES, WITH BELOW AVERAGE USE OF THE VISOR (LESS THAN 10 TIMES A WEEK). *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD EX 6544 KMILES- HAD FRONT BRAKES CHECKED FROM SQUEAL AND SAID NOTHING WRONG 9724 MILES- THEY CHANGED FRONT BRAKES AND GOT 4 MORE MPG. 21K MILES- THEY SAY I HAVE 1MM OF BACK BRAKES LEFT AND MAY HAVE ROTOR DAMAGE. NO SQUEALS OR ANY SIGNS OF BRAKE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER. *TR

2008 HONDA ACCORD HAS CHRONIC REAR BRAKE ISSUES. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 31,000 MILES ON A 2008 ACCORD AND MY REAR BRAKES HAVE NEEDED REPLACEMENT TWICE. I HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES. HONDA SAYS THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, BUT I DISAGREE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PART OF THE CAR. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT LOOKING TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AT 15,000 MILES AND THIS CAN EASILY LEAD TO MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA ACCORD IN FEBRUARY 2008 AND SO FAR I HAVE GONE THROUGH 2 SETS OF REAR BRAKE PADS IN 28,000 MILES. ALL THE WHILE MY BRAKES CONTINUE TO MAKE NOISE (SQUEAK AND GRIND). I HAVE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR TRYING TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM WITH NO CURE. THE DEALER INSISTS THAT THIS KIND OF BRAKE WEAR IS "NORMAL" FOR THIS CAR AND THE REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED EVERY 15,000 MILES. I FIND THIS INCREDIBLE. I'M AFRAID THAT MY BRAKES MAY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW BY HONDA. REAR BRAKE PADS ON 2000-2009 HONDA ACCORD WEAR OUT WITHIN 1 YEAR OR SO -- 18 MONTHS IN OUR CASE. USUALLY REAR BRAKE PADS LAST FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS A SERIOUS POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. HONDA HAS RECEIVED MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, BUT IS STILL REFUSING TO ADMIT ANY PROBLEM THROUGH A TSB OR RECALL. I DON'T THINK ANYONE IS EXPECTING TO HAVE THEIR BRAKES BE COMPLETELY GONE THAT FAST. PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR ON 2008 HONDA ACCORD. HAD THEM REPLACED BY OWN MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT MONTHS LATER HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. CONTACTED THEM IN 1 DAY THEY AGREED TO REIMBURSE US IN FULL. THIS IS VERY DISTRACTING FOR ME & MUST BE FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS THAT MEET ME ON THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR AND WAS TOLD THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC CAUSED BY THE ELECTRICAL LOAD DETECTOR (ELD) SYSTEM. THEY ARE NOT ABLE OR NOT WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFELY HAZARD. I WONDER WHETHER IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT DIMS ITS HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2008 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR LX-P SEDAN (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION), WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN JANUARY OF 2008. BEGINNING IN DECEMBER OF 2008, I DETECTED AN INTERMITTENT NOISE WHICH CAN BEST BE DESCRIBED AS THE SOUND OF AIR MOVING THROUGH A STRAW WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, WHICH WAS SUSTAINED THROUGH SUBSEQUENT ACCELERATION UNTIL REPEATED APPLICATION AND RELEASE OF THE BRAKES CAUSED THE NOISE TO CEASE. IT WAS AUDIBLE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, AND COULD NOT BE ISOLATED TO ONE PARTICULAR AREA OF THE CAR (REAR OR FRONT), THOUGH IT APPEARED TO ORIGINATE IN THE WHEELS AREA. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER DURING VISITS FOR OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS, AS WELL AS A SEPARATE VISIT SPECIFICALLY TO ASSESS THIS ONGOING OCCURRENCE. I WAS REPEATEDLY ASSURED THAT THEY HAD NOT HEARD THE NOISE, BUT HAD CHECKED THE BRAKES AND TIRES AND ALL WAS FINE, THERE WERE NO SUSPECTED OR VISIBLE CONCERNS. ONE DAY PRIOR TO MY MOST RECENT SERVICE APPOINTMENT OF JUNE 11, 2009, THE NOISE CHANGED (THOUGH WAS STILL VERY INTERMITTENT) AND BEGAN TO SOUND AND FEEL LIKE A GRINDING, METAL-TO-METAL NOISE, AS WELL AS A VIBRATION FELT IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN INSPECTED DURING THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN AND DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE TO THE ROTORS AS A RESULT. THE REAR BRAKE PADS ON THE NEWER HONDA ACCORDS (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS) WEAR EXTREMELY QUICKLY, AT APPROXIMATELY 18-20,000 MILES. THEY ALSO WEAR UNEVENLY, SUCH THAT THE INNER PADS WEAR MUCH MORE QUICKLY THAN THE OUTER. THE REAR PADS ALSO WEAR MUCH MORE QUICKLY THAN THE FRONT. THIS PROBLEM IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND VERY COSTLY. *TR

THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 17,000 MILES AND THE BRAKES WERE SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR 12,000 MILES. IN ADDITION, THE CALIPERS WERE LOCKING AND NOT RELEASING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. FURTHERMORE, THE REAR BRAKES WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ON THE VEHICLE. THE ADDITIONAL REPAIR WAS MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,701 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,834.

I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP A FEW MONTHS LATER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME IMMEDIATELY THAT THERE WAS SOME KIND OF BULLETIN RECENTLY RELEASED BY HONDA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON 2008-2009 HONDA ACCORDS. THEY TOLD ME THERE WASN'T YET ANY "TECHNICAL SERVICE ADVISORY" BUT WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THAT IT WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE THEN, I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING MORE ON THE ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING, A MAJOR NUISANCE FOR A BRAND NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES AND BRAKE PADS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. WHEN I TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED COMFORTABLE ENOUGH. IT WASN'T UNTIL A 3 HOUR ROAD TRIP A FEW MONTHS LATER THAT I REALIZED HOW UNCOMFORTABLE THE FRONT SEATS ARE. WITH THE NON-ADJUSTABLE FORWARD ANGLE OF THE HEAD RESTRAINTS, NOTHING FROM THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK TO THE TOP OF MY HEAD TOUCHED THE SEAT. OVER TIME, THIS RESULTED IN CHRONIC NECK AND UPPER BACK PAIN THAT I ATTEMPTED TO RELIEVE WITH CHIROPRACTOR AND MASSAGE THERAPY, BUT THE RELIEF WAS ALWAYS TEMPORARY. AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2 YEARS, I GOT SO FRUSTRATED THAT I PULLED THE HEADRESTS OUT, WRAPPED THEM IN A BLANKET, AND RAN THEM OVER WITH MY VEHICLE UNTIL THE RODS WERE FLATTENED. NOW THE HEAD RESTRAINTS ARE VERTICAL, A MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE ANGLE FOR MY BODY. I NO LONGER EXPERIENCE DISCOMFORT AND CHRONIC PAIN FROM DRIVING MY VEHICLE. THE ACTIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM STILL WORKS PERFECTLY. AS I UNDERSTAND THE NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING HEAD RESTRAINTS, A MANUFACTURER MUST EITHER USE A FIXED ANGLE HEAD RESTRAINT OR AN ACTIVE SYSTEM THAT MOVES THE HEAD RESTRAINING FORWARD IN A REAR COLLISION. I AM NOT SURE WHY HONDA DID BOTH THINGS. WHEN I LOOK AT OTHER NEW VEHICLES, THE EXTREME FORWARD ANGLED HEAD RESTRAINTS ARE IN EVERY CAR I'VE SEEN AND I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THEM. IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO HAVE BOTH SAFETY AND COMFORT. I SUGGEST REVISING THE REGULATION TO ONLY ACTIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEMS OR HAVING FULLY ADJUSTABLE HEAD RESTRAINTS AND INCLUDING INFORMATION ON PROPER ADJUSTMENT. I BELIEVE THERE IS NO NET BENEFIT OF THESE FORWARD SLOPING HEAD RESTRAINTS. ANY REDUCTION IN WHIPLASH CLAIMS WILL PROBABLY BE OFFSET BY A LARGER INCREASE IN THERAPY SERVICES AND ATTEMPTS TO ALTER THE HEAD RESTRAINTS. IS IT TO MUCH FOR ME TO ASK THAT HONDA ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS FLAW AND REMEDY THE SITUATION. IF THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH PREMATURE WEAR AND IT WAS ADDRESSED IN THE NEWER MODELS, SHOULDN'T SOMETHING BE DONE ABOUT THE EXISTING MODELS WHICH HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
PREMATURE REAR BRAKE WEAR ON 2008 HONDA ACCORD LX-P. CAR TAKEN FOR 20K MILE SERVICE TODAY, WAS INFORMED REAR BRAKES WORN TO 2MM WHILE FRONT BRAKES HAVE 8MM. NO MECHANICAL DEFECTS ADVISED BY DEALER, CLAIM NORMAL WEAR-AND-TEAR. THEY ARE COVERING PARTS AND LABOR UNDER WARRANTY EXCEPT THE BRAKE PADS. COST TO ME IS $75 IN ADDITION TO THE NORMAL SERVICE CHANGES OF $148, TOTAL BILL $213 PLUS TAXES AND FEES. *TR
THIS INCIDENT INVOLVED FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD WITH NO ANNUNCIATION OR WARNING THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. FORTUNATELY, I WAS TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEEDS WITH VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT A MILE AND A HALF AND HAD MULTIPLE STOPS FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND/OR STOP SIGNS WITH NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAD JUST ACCELERATED AFTER LEAVING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WAS TRAVELING 25 ? 30 MPH. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. AT THE POINT OF BRAKING, I OBSERVED ABSOLUTELY NO SLOWING IN RESPONSE TO APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE. THERE WAS LITTLE RESISTANCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL. STILL WITH NO SLOWING IN RESPONSE TO BRAKING, I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER SAFELY STOPPING, I ATTEMPTED TO BETTER CHARACTERIZE THE BRAKING PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO REPEATEDLY REPRODUCE THE FAILURE, HOWEVER DID CONFIRM THAT IF THE BRAKE HAD BEEN FULLY DEPRESSED AND THEN A VERY QUICK PUMP TO THE BRAKE, EXCESSIVE AND DRAMATIC PRESSURE WAS TEMPORARILY AVAILABLE. I PHONED MY HUSBAND FOR ASSISTANCE AND HE WAS ABLE TO CAREFULLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE, USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ONLY TO LYNWOOD HONDA FOR INVESTIGATION AND SERVICING. WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY LYNWOOD HONDA THAT THE ABS MODULATOR HAD FAILED, HOWEVER, THERE WERE NOT FAULTS RECORDED IN THE VEHICLE?S COMPUTER WHICH IS WHY NO DASHBOARD INDICATION OCCURRED. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND SUCH CASE REPORTED ON THE 2008 ACCORD. I PERSONALLY ATTEMPTED TO CALL HONDA OF AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE EXPLANATION AND / OR ACTION THEY WERE ABLE TO ADVICE ME THEY WERE TAKING AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT. NOTE THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO HONDA'S RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE AND HAS BEEN DONE EXCLUSIVELY BY THE LYNWOOD HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *TR
