2008 HONDA ACCORD- REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES, ALONG WITH THE ROTORS ONCE. I HAVE 70,000 MILES (MAINLY HIGHWAY MILE) AND THEY ARE HAVING TO BE REPLACED ALMOST EVERY 20,000 MILES. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD ALL MODELS BRAKE PROBLEMS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HONDA AND THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 400 COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITE CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. NUMBERS OF PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD HAS COMPLAINED TO HONDA FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE. HONDA WILL NOT RECALL THE PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR ON ALL 2008 HONDA ACCORD MODELS. MY BRAKES HAVE WENT OUT TWICE SINCE I HAD MY CAR AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN A YEAR. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE WHEN THE BRAKES GO BAD THEY JUST GO BAD NO INDICATION OR WARNING. HONDA IS NOT OWNING UP TO THE ISSUE AND THEY SHOULD BE. NOTHING HAS BEEN TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. HONDA JUST SAYS THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT OR THAT THEY NEED MORE PEOPLE TO COMPLAIN. MY REAR BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURELY ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD AT AROUND 18K MILES. HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE DEALERSHIP HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY EXISTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, HE WAS TOLD THAT HIS REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AND HE HEARD A PECULIAR NOISE DURING BRAKE APPLICATION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000. I HAVE HAD MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EXL FOR A LITTLE BIT OVER A YEAR. ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO, I HEARD MY CAR MAKING SOME SCREECHING NOISE. IT WAS NOT PERSISTENT BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME FEEL EMBARRASSED TO DRIVE MY CAR. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO THE SCREECHING NOISE BECAME SUCH A PROBLEM B/C 95% OF THE TIME I'M DRIVING BOTH REAR BRAKES SEEM TO BE MAKING THE NOISE. IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE IS RUNNING A METAL WIRE ALONG A METAL SHEET AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE BRAKES SLIP EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE. I RECENTLY GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND ITS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON THING. I JUST CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. I ALSO TOLD THEM ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ONLINE AND TOLD THEM THAT I WILL NOT PAY FOR ANY CHARGES THAT OCCUR. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED A BRAKE PROBLEM FOR ALL 2008/2009 HONDA ACCORD AND SAID THEY SHOULD BE RESOLVING THE ISSUE 12/22/09 AND THAT I SHOULD HOLD OFF UNTIL THEN AND THAT IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
HONDA ACCORD 2008 REAR BRAKES WORN PREMATURELY. AFTER 30,000 MILES, I WAS TOLD BY HONDA MECHANIC THAT MY FRONT BRAKES LOOK LIKE NEW (9 MM. LEFT), BUT BOTH REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (1 MM. LEFT). BOTH REAR BRAKES WORN EVENLY. AFTER SEARCHING FEW CAR FORUMS, I FOUND THAT I'M NOT ALONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. BRAKES WERE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD BRAKES ARE WORN DOWN TO 1.6MM AFTER ONLY 16676 MILES. CAR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION AND IS WELL CARED FOR AND DRIVEN SAFELY. SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH 2008 HONDA ACCORD REAR BRAKES. MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. REAR BRAKES SHOULD LAST 4 TIMES LONGER ?? *TR
I OWN A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A NOISE IN THE REAR. SHE WAS TOLD THE CAR NEEDED REAR BRAKES. THE CAR ONLY HAS 25,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I TALKED TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD I WAS LUCKY TO GET 25,000 MILES AS HE IS REPLACING BRAKES AT 15,000. I WAS TOLD BY A HONDA MECHANIC THAT THE BRAKE ISSUE IS DUE TO THE PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT BEING INADVERTENTLY TIGHTENED BY THE CAR SUSPENSION. HE SAID HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A FIX. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACE, WHEN HONDA KNOWS THERE'S A PROBLEM. *TR
PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR ON A 2008 HONDA ACCORD LX. 25773 MILES ON CAR. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER FOR SQUEALING SOUND.. THEY SAID IT WAS BRAKE PADS WORN ON REAR BRAKES, AND A REAR ROTOR NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH ADMITTING OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT PREMATURE BRAKE PAD WEAR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I PAID $347 ON REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BECAUSE OF HONDA'S PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY EVEN SOLD THE CAR TO ME 8/28/08. *TR
WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE 2008 HONDA ACCORDS. 2 REPAIRS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. ONE REPAIR REQUIRED AT 1.3 YEARS OLD SECOND AT 2.7 YEARS OLD. TOTAL FAILURE IN A QUICK STOPPING SITUATION IS POSSIBLE. I FOR ONE DO NOT WANT TO FIND THIS OUT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE ON THE BREAK, SHE EXPERIENCED SQUEALING AND REDUCED BREAKING CAPABILITY. BREAK FAILURE CAN CAUSE AN INCREASE IN THE VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF VEHICLE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE CALIPERS AND REAR BREAK SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. AS OF CURRENT DATE NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 12,000.
HONDA PREMATURE REAR BRAKE WEAR. 2008 HONDA ACCORD 2-DOOR 4 CYLINDER AUTO TRANS. HAS 16,696 MILES AND REAR BRAKES WORE OUT. INNER PADS WERE METAL ON METAL ACCORDING TO REPAIR SHOP (PEP BOYS) THEY DID NOT WANT TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE AS THEY FELT THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE SAID THE DEALER SHOULD REPLACE THE CALIPERS UNDER WARRANTY. TOOK TO DEALER NEXT MORNING ON AUG 19 2009. GOT A STORY ABOUT HOW IT IS NORMAL FOR REAR BRAKES TO WEAR OUT AT 16,000 MILES. THEY WOULD NOT COVER A SAFETY ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY. TOLD REAR BRAKES DO NOT LAST AS LONG AS FRONT BRAKES. TOLD INNER PADS ON THE REAR AXLE WEAR OUT FASTER THAN THE OUTER PADS DUE TO THIS REASON OR THAT REASON. DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEN CHARGED ME FOR REPLACING REAR BRAKES. I EXPECT THE CURRENT SET OF BRAKES TO ONLY LAST ANOTHER 16,000 MILES. DEFECTIVE REAR BRAKES ON 2008 HONDA ACCORD I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 HONDA ACCORD LAST MAY AND HAVE APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR OF REGULAR HIGHWAY DRIVING MY REAR BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAL AND GRIND INCESSANTLY. MY HONDA DEALER ADMITTED THAT THE ACCORDS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKES BUT REFUSED TO SERVICE THIS AS A COVERED WARRANTY ISSUE. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY SIMPLY READ WHAT APPEARED TO BE A "CANNED" RESPONSE THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS AND THAT THIS WAS A "WEAR ITEM" THAT THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. AFTER CONDUCTING MY OWN RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE COME ACROSS HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER 2008 HONDA ACCORD INCLUDING MANY COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA. THE PROPER OPERATION OF A VEHICLES BRAKES IS CRITICAL TO DRIVER AND OCCUPANT SAFETY, AND HONDA REFUSES TO ADMIT TO OR RECTIFY WHAT IS CLEARLY A SYSTEMIC SAFETY ISSUE. I IMPLORE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND TO RECURRENT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE FOR THE THOUSANDS OF HONDA ACCORD OWNERS WHO MAY BE DRIVING UNSAFE VEHICLES. *TR
I PURCHASED AN 08 HONDA ACCORD IN JAN08. IN AUG 09 (7 MONTHS LATER) I WAS TOLD BY HONDA DURING AN OIL CHANGE THAT THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED REPLACED. THE CAR ONLY HAD 19K MILES ON IT. HONDA REFUSED TO COVER THE COST EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS 7 MONTHS OLD AND STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I PAID $205 TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED. IN MAY 09 (9 MONTHS LATER), I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO HONDA FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED REPLACED. AT THIS TIME, THE VEHICLE HAD 39K TOTAL MILES, WHICH WAS ONLY 20K MILES SINCE THE LAST TIME I HAD BRAKES PUT ON THE VEHICLE THE FIRST TIME. I ONCE AGAIN PAID $215 TO HONDA FOR THE REPAIR. I QUESTIONED HONDA ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT RELATED TO DRIVER HABITS AND THE FACT THAT I LIVED IN A CONGESTED AREA. I INFORMED THEM THAT THIS WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE REPLACED REAR BRAKES ON EVERY 20K MILES. I ADVISED THAT THE 2006 HONDA ACCORD THAT I TRADED IN WITH 94K MILES HAD BRAKES REPLACED ONCE, WHICH WAS AT THE 80K MARK. I ALSO ADVISED THEM THAT THIS WAS A COMMUTER CAR AND THAT I HAVE HAD THE SAME COMMUTE FOR 4 YEARS, SO THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RELATED TO ME OR THE CONGESTION. IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING THE CAR AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER MY SECOND BRAKE REPAIR, I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP AS QUICKLY AS IT SHOULD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BY HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES LOOKED FINE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. I AM NOW AT 59,000 MILES AND NOTICING THAT THE CAR IS MAKING SQUEALING NOISES WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THEREFORE, THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TIME I AM REPLACING BRAKES ON A NEW CAR. HONDA WILL NOT OWN UP TO THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I INVESTIGATED TRADING IT IN, BUT WAS TOLD BY HONDA THAT THE 09 & 10 MODELS HAVE THEM SAME PART NUMBER. THIS PROBLEM WILL ONLY CONTINUE TO GROW. UNFORTUNATELY, SOMEONE WILL END UP GETTING HURT BEFORE HONDA TAKES ACTION. *TR

BRAKES IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT AFTER 19,000 MILES. SERVICE MANAGER SAYS HE GETS 2 OR 3 CALLS/DAY ON THIS ISSUE AND WE ARE LUCKY THE BRAKES LASTED TO 19K. MOST ONLY LAST 15-17K. SERVICE MANAGER (AND COUNTLESS OTHERS FOUND ONLINE) HAVE MADE HONDA AWARE, BUT NO RECALL, NO NOTIFICATION TO CONSUMERS, NO COVERAGE UNDER BASIC OR EXTENDED WARRANTIES. IF THIS WAS PEELING PAINT, NO PROBLEM. THESE ARE BRAKES THAT LAST (ACCORDING TO SERVICE MANAGER) A LITTLE OVER A YEAR BEFORE REPLACEMENT WITH NORMAL DRIVING! 50% WEAR IN 6 MONTHS! HAVE NEVER OWNED ANY OTHER VEHICLE WITH THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIE BAG DEPLOYED ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN. MONDAY NIGHT, I SHUT MY PASSENGER DOOR, GOT INTO MY CAR AND 5-6 MINUTES LATER BOOM!!!. SCARED THE LIVING HECK OUT ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER IS TELLING ME ITS MY FAULT AND THEY ARE NOT PAYING FOR IT. THEY INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY SAW NO DAMAGES WITH MY CAR MEANING NO COLLISIONS, NO SCRAPES, NO HIT, BUMPS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT WOULD MAKE THE AIR BAG DEPLOY. INSURANCE WAS CALLED AND THEY TOLD THEM THE SAME; HOWEVER, THERE IS NO CLAIM BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. NOW HONDA HAS CHANGED THERE STORY SAYING THAT THERE ARE DAMAGES TO MY CAR. THEY'VE HAD MY CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND ALLOF A SUDDEN THERE ARE DAMAGES. I'VE CALLED AMERICA HONDA CUSTOMER CARE AND NOW I'M WAITING FOR AN ADJUSTER FROM MY INSURANCE CLAIM TO GO OUT TO LOOK AT MY CAR. IN THE MEANTIME, I'M WITHOUT A VEHICLE. HONDA SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY ARE FIGHTING TO AVOID A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2008 HONDA ACCORD AND DRIVE IT EVERYDAY TO WORK. THE TRIP IS ABOUT 20 MILES OF HIGHWAY AND 5 MILES OF LIGHT CITY DRIVING. AFTER 23K MILES WE TOOK OUR CAR SO SOMEONE BECAUSE THE REAR WHEELS WERE SCREECHING. WE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OFF. WE TALKED TO THE VIC BAILEY HONDA DEALERSHIP ING SPARTANBURG, SC AND THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT THEY'D COVER 60% OF THE COST. I AM HAPPY THEY ARE PAYING FOR PART OF THE COST, BUT I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY EVERY 25K MILES TO GET BRAKES REPLACED WHEN THEY SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL OR SOMETHING. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA ACCORD IN FEBRUARY 2008. I STARTED EXPERIENCING BREAK NOISES AROUND 10000 MILES, I CONTACTED HONDA REGARDING THE CONCERNS. HONDA ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS BECAUSE THE BREAKS GET WET DURING RAIN AND WASHING. WRONG, AFTER I REFUSED TO ACCEPT THIS AS AN ANSWER, AT 12,000 MI I DEMANDED A RECHECK BY HONDA. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT A ROCK WAS ENLODGED IN THE WHEEL. LIAR, AT 13,000MI, AFTER ANOTHER TRIP TO HONDA BECAUSE I WAS NOW HEARING GRINDING NOISES WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, HONDA REPLACED THE BACK BREAK PADS AND STATED THAT THEY WERE COMPLETELY GONE. APPROXIMATELY 26,000 MILES THE SAME EXACT NOISES STARTED AGAIN, I DROVE ANOTHER 2,000MILES AND DECIDED TO HAVE THEM CHECKED AGAIN AT HONDA. I WAS INSULTED BY HONDA INSINUATING THAT I WAS A BAD DRIVER. I RESPONDED THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SINCE THE AGE OF 13 AND THAT WAS AN INSULT BECAUSE I AM NOW AT THE AGE OF 44 YRS OLD. I THEN STATED THAT I HAVE ALOT OF HIGHWAY MILES ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER IS OUT OF TOWN IN COLLEGE AND I VISIT HER OFTEN, THIS IS WHY I PURCHASED A HONDA BECAUSE I ALWAYS HEARD THAT THEY WERE RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE AND GOOD ON GAS, NOT. I HAVE OWNED OLDSMOBILE, GMC, CHEVY, CADILLAC, MAZDA, MITSUBISHI'S AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF BULL. THEN HONDA SVC MGR AND GENERAL MGR INSISTED THAT I PAY FOR A BREAK JOB BECAUSE HONDA WAS GENEROUS TO REPLACE THEM THE FIRST TIME AT 13,000 MILES AND THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. DUH, I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD COVER ANYTHING FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER. HONDA THEN CAME BACK 5 HRS LATER WITH A PHONE CALL STATING THAT THEY WOULD TRY TO CONTACT HONDA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER HALF THE EXPENSE. THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME BECAUSE THE WAY IT LOOKS, I WILL BE REPLACING BRAKES EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE. THIS IS A DISGRACE AND HONDA NEEDS TO BE PULLED ON THE RED CARPET TO STAND BEHIND THIS MESS UP AND HONOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. MAYBE IF THE RECESSION AFFECT THEM THEN THEY WILL CHANGE. *TR
MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD WAS PURCHASED IN MARCH 2008. I WANTED A HONDA DUE TO THE REPORTS OF THEIR RELIABILITY AND SAFETY. I TOOK MY CAR FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN DECEMBER OF 2008 AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE SO FAR GONE THAT I WAS DIGGING INTO MY ROTORS. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL. NO SQUEALING NOISES, NO FORM OF WARNING AT ALL. I COMPLAINED ALOT. HONDA ENDED UP SPLITTING IT WITH ME 50/50. AT THAT TIME I HAD 25,476 MILES ON THE CAR. I'M SURE THE BRAKES WERE SHOT WELL BEFORE THAT POINT. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED NEW REAR BRAKES NOW. NO WARNING ONCE MORE. AND NOW I ONLY HAVE 21,000 MORE MILES ON THE CAR. HOW CAN IT BE ACCEPTABLE TO MANUFACTURE BRAKES THAT ONLY LAST FOR 20,000 MILES? MY WHOLE VIEW OF HONDA IS CHANGING RAPIDLY. I QUESTIONNED WHY ARE REAR BRAKES GOING OUT ON A CAR WITH LESS THAN 22,000 MILES, AND IS IT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, WHEN MY HUSBAND HAS A CHEV WITH 66,000 AND THE REAR BRAKES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME THEY WORE OUT WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 14,000 MILES WHILE THIS SECOND INSTANCE HAS HAPPENED AT ABOUT 26,000 MILES. THE BRAKES START MAKING A VERY LOUD METALLIC GRINDING NOISE AND REDUCED BRAKING POWER WITH ALMOST NO WARNING. HONDA'S SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS TO SIMPLY SAY IT'S NORMAL BRAKE WEAR ON THE VEHICLE AND THEN REQUIRE THAT THE ROTORS BE TURNED AND THE BRAKE PADS BE REPLACED, AFTER CHARGING AN ABSURD DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

REAR BRAKES PADS WERE WORE DOWN TO WEAR INDICATOR ON ONE SIDE OF EACH REAR DISC WITH VERY LITTLE WEAR ON OPPOSITE PAD, "VERY UNEVEN BRAKE WEAR". HONDA OF GREELEY IN COLORADO DID BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT WITH NO CORRECTIONS OR MENTIONS OF A PROBLEM WITH UNEVEN BRAKE WEAR. FRONT ROTORS AT THE SAME TIME HAD TO BE RESURFACED DUE TO WARP, HOWEVER THERE HAD NOT BEEN ENOUGH PAD WEAR TO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF PADS. *TR
I HAD A NOISE IN THE REAR BRAKES OF MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD, THE CAR ONLY HAS 17500 MILES ON IT, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY TOLD ME MY CAR NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKE PADS. THE REAR PADS DIDN'T REACH 60% OF THERE RECOMMENDED LIFE, I FELL THIS IS A PROBLEM IN THE NEW HONDAS. *TR
2008 HONDA ACCORD. DURING NORMAL SERVICE BY SELLING DEALER AT 9,300 MILES WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS NEED TO BE REPLACED. WAS TOLD THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH "THIS MODEL". WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THIS REPAIR AS WAS DEEMED A WARRANTY ISSUE. DEALER HAS CHECKED TO BE SURE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RE-DESIGN OF PADS- AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN. A CHECK ON CONSUMER REPORTS WEB SITE UNDER THE FORUM FOR HONDA SHOWS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH MOST GOT AT LEAST 12 TO 15 THOUSAND MILES. I LIVE IN HILLS WHICH MAY EXPLAIN PART OF THE DIFFERENCE. HAVING TO REPLACE REAR BRAKE PADS EVERY 9,000 OR 10,000 MILES IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. HAD I HAD THE CAR SERVICED SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN THE DEALER IT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN LOOKED FOR OR DISCOVERED. A RECALL IS NEEDED AND IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR HONDA TO NOT HAVE DONE SO AT THIS POINT. *TR
TODAY WHEN I HAD THE CAR SERVICED BY HONDA DEALER, WAS ADVISED THAT THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT 19,000 MILES. THE MAJORITY OF MY DRIVING, AT LEAST 80% IS HIGHWAY WITH VERY LITTLE STOP AND GO. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40+ YEARS AND I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. MY LAST CAR, A TOYOTA CAMRY, DI NOT REPLACE REAR BRAKES UNTIL 90,000 MILES. HONDA CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR. *TR
DEFECTIVE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN DOWN TO 2 MILLIMETERS. UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, SHE NOTICED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WHERE SQUEAKING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $159.74. SHE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE HONDA MANUFACTURER, BUT NO COMPENSATION WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE REAR BRAKES ARE FAULTY BECAUSE SHE USES THE FRONT BRAKES MORE THAN THE REAR. SHE FURTHER STATED THAT THE PADS SHOULD NOT HAVE WORN DOWN DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,310 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,480.
