I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX. MY CAR WAS RUNNING AND PARKED. I CLOSED THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR AND THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS AND SEAT AIRBAG DEPLOYED. DEAFENING MY PASSENGER FOR APPROX. 1 DAY. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO HONDA AND THEY SAID THE VEHICLE DID IT'S JOB AND THEY ARE NOT COVERING IT. THERE IS NO ACCIDENT DAMAGE WHAT SO EVER. I CALLED HONDA CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE A NICE DAY. IT IS A LEASE CAR, A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, AND OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THE VERY SAME CAR AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BUT UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE TO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2008. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKE PADS AT 21,000 MILES. A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKES SHOULD NOT WEAR UNTIL 60 TO 70,000 MILES. A DEALER STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE. NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN PERFORMED. CONSIDERABLE BRAKE DAMAGE AFTER 26K, HAD TO REPLACE DRUMS, CALIPERS,ROTORS AND SHOES TO THE TUNE OF $546.00. 7K LATER, THE BRAKES ARE DOWN 25%, THEY WERE INSTALLED BY A HONDA DEALER WHO SAID TOUGH LUCK, ITS A FRICTION ITEM, NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY BY HONDA. LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE TO HAVE NEW BRAKES EVERY 15-20K AND ITS AT OUR EXPENSE. TIME FOR HONDA TO STEP FORWARD OR FOR HONDA TO LEARN FROM TOYOTA MISTAKES, MAYBE ANOTHER 16.5 MILLION DOLLAR FINE SHOULD BE UP FOR HONDA ALSO. LAST TIME WE BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS BEING USED, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER FROM HIGH TO A LOWER LEVEL INTENSITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WAS DESIGNED IN THAT WAY AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING TO THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000.
BRAKES ARE DEFECTIVE ON THE 2008 & 2009 ACCORD. MY REAR BRAKES & ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 14,100 MILES, APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO PRIOR TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST HONDA FOR THE DEFECTIVE BRAKES. ACCORDING TO HONDA THE NEW MATERIAL (BRAKES ARE TO BE RELEASED MID JUNE 2010. I CONTACTED HONDA (SEE CASE #[XXX]) I ADVISED THEM THAT I WANTED THE NEW BRAKES PUT ON THE VEHICLE AS THE EARLIER BRAKE SHOES APPEAR TO BE DEFECTIVE. THEY ADVISED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT. THERE IS WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE THAT STATES THE BRAKES ARE BAD AND THERE IS A NEW PROCEDURE TO PUT THE BRAKE PADS ON. AS THAT DOCUMENTATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN MY BRAKES WERE REPLACED I NOW STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE PADS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN INSTALLED ACCORDING TO THE NEW PROCEDURE. I WOULD ALSO NOTE THAT AT 17,500 MILES MY FRONT SHOES ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY WORN ALSO. THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION WHICH CAN LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. PREMATURE WEAR OF REAR BRAKE PADS. THE INNER BRAKE PAD WAS COMPLETELY WORN OUT AT 28,000 MILES. THE OUTER REAR BRAKE PAD WAS NOT WORN. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT HONDA DESIGNED WRONG. THE REAR PADS SHOULD WEAR OUT EVENLY. *TR
I HAVE AN '08 HONDA ACCORD EX AND DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN AND PART QUALITY HONDA USES FOR THEIR REAR-BRAKES I HAVE TO CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS ON THE CAR WITH ONLY 17,500 MILES ON IT. AT 15-20K MILE LIFE ON BRAKE PADS IS SUBPAR QUALITY AND DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM. THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM SPEEDING EXTRA MAINTENANCE DOLLARS ON A POOR DECISION/DESIGN BY HONDA AUTO. *TR
WE HAVE A 2008 ACCORD EX-L V-6 WITH 20,000 MILES AND PREMATURE REAR BRAKE FAILURE. REAR BRAKES WERE WORE DOWN TO THE SENSORS. THE DEALER SAID, YES THE BRAKES WEAR OUT QUICKLY, BUT THEY ARE NOT COVERED. I UNDERSTAND THE PART AS A WEAR ITEM, BUT IT IS ALSO A SAFETY RELATED ITEM. THE AVERAGE CUSTOMER CAN, AND SHOULD EXPECT THE BRAKES TO AT LEAST LAST UNTIL THE HONDA SPECIFIED INSPECTION PERIOD WHICH IS THE "SERVICE B". IT IS VERY UNREASONABLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE BRAKES AT EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE. PLUS THE DEALER COULD NOT TELL ME IF THE REPLACEMENT PADS WILL LAST ANY LONGER THAT THE ORIGINALS. APPARENTLY HONDA IS WORKING ON A COUNTERMEASURE, BUT NO DATE OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE. REAR BRAKES SHOULD OUTLAST THE FRONT BRAKES OR AT LEAST LAST AS LONG AS THEM. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE WITH IN THE WEAR PERIOD OF THE MILEAGE. *TR
I AM A FIRST TIME BUYER OF A HONDA AUTOMOBILE. I PURCHASED MY HONDA FOR THE RELIABILITY AND QUALITY REPUTATION THAT THEY WERE TO POSSESS. I FIRST NOTICED A LOUD SCRAPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR AT 37,000 MILES. I ASKED FELLOW AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING EMPLOYEES WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT COULD BE. THE RESPONSE WAS ALWAYS IT CAN'T BE THE PADS BECAUSE OF THE LOW MILEAGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE REAR PADS AND THAT THE WEAR WAS NORMAL. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT ANSWER, SO UPON PICKING UP MY ACCORD I ASKED FOR THE OLD PADS. THE INSIDE PAD WAS COMPLETELY WORN WHILE THE PAD FOR THE SAME WHEEL FOR THE OUTSIDE WAS QUITE THE OPPOSITE WITH PLENTY OF PAD LEFT. THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE INCONSISTENT WEAR DUE TO A EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE ENGAGEMENT. I DID NOT SEE THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP AT ALL. INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE FURTHER BECAUSE OF MY CONCERN WITH FAULTY BRAKES, I HAVE LEARNED I AM NOT ALONE. I WILL NOT TOLERATE REPLACING AND PAYING FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING ISSUE OF POOR QUALITY AND WHAT MAY TURN INTO A LIFE LOSS IF NOT UNDERSTOOD. SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE AT HONDA MANUFACTURING? *TR
I HAVE LEASED MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD COUPE WITH VSA FOR 13 MONTHS WITH 15,900 MILES CURRENTLY. VISITED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE RECOMMENDED 15,000 MILE SERVICE. TOLD THE REAR BRAKES NEED REPLACEMENT, THE SERVICE TECH STATED " THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE ACCORD, WE CAN HAVE THE BRAKE SERVICE COMPLETED FOR YOU IN 45 MINUTES". I STATED "IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM I WOULD GLADLY HAVE THE BRAKE SERVICE COMPLETED IF HONDA PAID FOR THE PARTS". SERVICE TECH SAID I HAVE TO CHECK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. A FEW MINUTES WENT BY AND THE TECH RETURNED, "THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS VSA, THAT THE BRAKES WEAR OUT VERY QUICKLY AND THAT HONDA WOULD NOT OFFER TO COVER THE COST OF PARTS. BUT, BECAUSE THIS IS A LEASED VEHICLE DO NOT PUT ON AFTER MARKET BRAKE PADS AT ANOTHER SERVICE SITE". NO WHERE IN THE HONDA VEHICLE MANUAL IS IT STATED THAT THERE WOULD BE EARLY BRAKE WEAR AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS VSA. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING HONDA AMERICA BY PHONE, BY FAX AND BY CERTIFIED LETTER. AS HONDA DRIVERS WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD RECEIVE THE WORK AND PARTS GRATIS BY HONDA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A VOLUNTARY RECALL INVOLVING THE REAR BRAKE PADS. THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS. AFTER THE REPAIR THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE REAR BRAKES. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO STOP AND EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
EVERY SINGLE DAY WHEN I START UP MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD 4 CYCL. AUTOMATIC FROM A COLD START THERE IS A HORRIBLE NOISE (RATTLE) FROM WHAT SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN WALDORF, MD HAS TRIED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM 3 OR 4 TIMES. NOW THEY SAY THEY WON'T TRY TO FIX IT ANYMORE, EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY HONDA THAT IT IS THE VTC ACTUATOR AND IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART. TIL THIS DAY 5/15/15, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I GOT THE CAR. IT IS THE ONLY ANNOYING AND UNNERVING PROBLEM WITH MY HONDA. WHY CAN'T THIS ISSUE BE RESOLVED? I FOUND ALL THESE COMPLAINTS IN THE HONDA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THIS ISSUE WITH HONDA EVER SINCE. OBVIOUSLY HONDA KNOWS ABOUT IT. AT COLD START-UP, CUSTOMERS MAY COMPLAIN ABOUT A LOUD ENGINE RATTLE THAT LASTS FOR ABOUT TWO SECONDS. THE PROBABLE CAUSE IS A FAULTY VTC (VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL) ACTUATOR. THIS APPLIES TO ALL 2008 ACCORD L4 (TWO/FOUR DOOR) VEHICLES, 2009 ACCORD L4 TWO-DOOR VIN 1HGCS19A000001 THROUGH 1HGCS19A004953, 2009 ACCORD L4 FOUR-DOOR VIN 1HGCP29A000001 THROUGH 1HGCP29A029528, AND 2009 ACCORD L4 FOUR-DOOR VIN JHMCP29C000001 THROUGH JHMCP29C010096. I OWN A 2008 HONDA ACCORD WITH 24K MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER BECAUSE I HEARD A METAL GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. THE DEALER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE REAR BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 2MM OF BRAKE PAD REMAINING WHICH I VALIDATED WITH A VISUAL INSPECTION. MY FRONT BRAKES HAD JUST OVER 8MM OF BRAKE PADS REMAINING (NORMAL WEAR). IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFAULT IN EITHER THE BRAKE PADS OR DESIGN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT IS NOT A REASONABLE DEDUCTION BY MOST OWNERS OF A 2008 HONDA ACCORD THAT BRAKE PADS WOULD WEAR OUT WITHIN `20K MILES AND IGNORE THE SYMPTOMS. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $150 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. *TR
I,LIKE MANY OTHERS, HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD. I FIRST HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED AT 23K AND AGAIN AT 41K. AND, BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD IT LAST WEEK, I MUST TAKE THE CAR BACK TO GET ONE OF MY ROTORS COMPLETELY REPLACED (THE OTHERS WERE ABLE TO BE RESURFACED). APPARENTLY SOMETIMES BETWEEN 23K AND 41K MY BRAKES WORE BAD ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN INDENTION ON MY ROTOR. THIS IS STRANGE TO ME BECAUSE I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE THE BRAKES LOOKED AT AS SOON AS I HEARD THEM MAKING THE INDICATOR NOISE BOTH TIME, YET SOMEHOW MY ROTOR WAS ABLE TO BE INDENTED B/C THERE WAS METAL RUBBING AGAINST METAL... I'M NO MECHANIC, BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME! I WOULD JUST LIKE WHATEVER THE ISSUE IS THAT IS CAUSING THESE BRAKES TO WEAR DOWN SO QUICKLY TO BE FIXED. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, A QUALITY ISSUE AS WELL AS A FINANCIAL CONCERN (AT LEAST FOR ME). *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE IT WOULD MAKE A LOUD SCREECHING SOUND, THE FASTER YOU DRIVE THE LOUDER IT WOULD SOUND. IT IS VERY EMBARRASSING ON THE HIGHWAY, LET ALONE WHEN YOU DRIVE VERY SLOW AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD TO LOOK FOR PARKING, THE SOUND IS ALOT LOWER BUT YET EMBARRASSING AND ANNOYING. I NEVER THOUGHT MY BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF WITH THE VEHICLE AND I NEVER THOUGHT MY REAR BRAKES WOULD WEAR OUT AT 16,400 MILES. IT COST ME MONEY THAT I DID NOT HAVE AT THE TIME. *TR
MY REAR BRAKES HAD TO REPLACED AT 21,400 MILES BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE BRAKE PAD - I HAD READ OTHER REPORTS ABOUT THIS AND MY BRAKES HAD BEEN SQUEAKING SINCE 4000 MILES! *TR
THE REAR BRAKE PADS FAIL PREMATURELY, CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE AND LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. I'VE ALMOST HAD SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO BRAKE PROPERLY. I'VE HAD THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, EACH TIME AS A RESULT OF LOST BRAKING POWER AND SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE, INCLUDING AT INTERSECTIONS WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS ALMOST IN THE WAY OF OPPOSING TRAFFIC. THE ODOMETER AT THE LAST REPAIR WAS 56,075 MILES, COMPARED TO 37596 MILES ON THE PREVIOUS REPAIR, A DIFFERENCE OF ONLY 18,479 MILES! THEN, BEFORE THAT, MY MILEAGE FOR MY FIRST BRAKE REPAIR WAS 18,258 MILES, A DIFFERENCE OF 19,117 MILES! SO FAR, THE AVERAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAR BRAKE PAD CHANGES HAS BEEN 18,618 MILES. I NOTICED IT BECAUSE SUDDENLY I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF ME. CURRENTLY I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AS I AM NEARING THE 18,000 MILE MARK BETWEEN BRAKE PAD CHANGES.

HEARD NOISE ON LEFT REAR OF CAR. SCHEDULED A SERVICE WITH DEALER. DEALER FOUND REAR BRAKE PAD HAD WORN AWAY. DEALER RESURFACED ROTORS AND INSTALLED NEW PADS. CAR IS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD WITH 18,879 MILES. DEALER STATED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. CALLED HONDA AND FILED A COMPLAINT, THEY ALSO SAID THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS CAR WAS CHANGED AND THE REAR PADS DO WEAR OUT SOONER THAN EXPECTED. BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD STEP-UP AND COVER THIS PROBLEM. 2008 HONDA ACCORD DRIVERS WINDSHIELD WIPER DRAGS THE WATER IT WAS SUPPOSE TO WIPE AWAY BACK INTO THE OPERATORS FIELD OF VISION. STARTS AT 40 TO 45 MPH WITH STEADY RAIN AND WORSENS AS THE VEHICLE SPEED INCREASES, AT 70 IT IS BAD. I HAVE PICTURES. BLADE REPLACED 3 TIMES, ARM REPLACED ONCE, NO HELP. HONDA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. HONDA IS STONEWALLING ME BY NOT CONTACTING BACK AFTER THEIR INITIAL CALL, THREATENING TO ASSUME THE CONCERN IS REPAIRED AFTER SENDING ME A LETTER THAT SAID IN 10 DAYS THEY ASSUME THE COMPLAINT IS NO LONGER A CONCERN. I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD INTO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 22K MILES. I LATER RECEIVED A CALL THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE FINE AT ABOUT 8MM, BUT THE REAR BRAKES ARE UNDER 3MM AND THAT THEY FALL OUTSIDE THE MARYLAND REQUIREMENT AND THUS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS ANYWHERE NEAR THAT LOW MILEAGE FOR ANY OF THE PREVIOUS CARS I HAVE OWNED. HONDA SHOULD RECALL THIS BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH ONLY 17,800 MI. I HEARD MY BRAKES SQUEAL AND BROUGHT IT IN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. I WAS INFORMED MY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT IS ABSURD SINCE 90% OF MY DRIVING IS ON THE HIGHWAY. REAR BRAKES HAVE WORN SEVERELY AND PREMATURELY. ONCE AT 20,000 MILES AND THE SECOND AT 40,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE BRAKES WERE CLOSE TO TOTAL FAILURE. BRAKES HAD TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED TWICE. WHEN I DRIVE MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L I4 AT NIGHT, WITH THE A/C ON, THE HEADLAMPS FLICKER. *TR
I OWN A 2008 HONDA ACCORD LX-P. ON WED., SEPT. 16, I HIT A PIECE OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS IN THE ROAD. THE METAL PUNCTURED THE FRONT DRIVER-SIDE TIRE. WHEN I STOPPED TO INSPECT THE TIRE AND REPLACE IT WITH THE TEMPORARY SPARE, I FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURES FOR USING THE STANDARD-ISSUE JACK THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE TO GET THE DAMAGED TIRE OFF THE CAR. THE JACK, HOWEVER, BENT UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE; THEN IT SLIPPED OUT FROM UNDER THE FRAME, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE METAL BELOW THE DOOR. THE JACK, WHICH DOES NOT FEATURE A SLOT (MORE OF AN INDENTED PLATE) TO FIT NEATLY AROUND THE REINFORCED PART OF THE FRAME, DID NOT HOLD UP THE CAR. BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE POORLY DESIGNED JACK CONTRIBUTED TO THE DAMAGE, I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND STARTED A CASE. FOLLOWING THE DIRECTION OF MY CASE MANAGER, DAVID KITCHEN, I VISITED THE BREAKAWAY HONDA, WHERE THE PARTS TECHNICIAN COMMENTED THAT I DID INDEED HAVE A "DEFECTIVE JACK." HE TOOK PICTURES, GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE, THEN COMMUNICATED THIS TO DAVID KITCHEN. THIS WAS ON OCT. 21, 2009. SINCE THEN, I HAVE FALLEN INTO A "BLACK HOLE" WITH AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAVE LEFT MANY MESSAGES FOR DAVID KITCHEN, WITH VERY LITTLE RESPONSE OR FEEDBACK. I EVEN SENT A LETTER TO HIROYUKI YAMADA, COO OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHICH HE NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED. FINALLY, ON JANUARY 19, 2010, I WAS INFORMED BY MR. KITCHEN THAT MY REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS REJECTED BY AMERICAN HONDA BECAUSE THE HONDA ENGINEERS "COULD NOT VERIFY THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH I USED THE JACK." I SHARED THAT THIS ANSWER WAS UNSATISFACTORY -- THAT I WAS TOLD BY THE PARTS TECHNICIAN THAT I HAD A DEFECTIVE JACK -- AND REQUESTED ANOTHER PERSON WITHIN AMERICAN HONDA TO WHOM I COULD APPEAL. MR. KITCHEN SAID THE DECISION WAS HIS AND THERE WAS NO OPPORTUNITY FOR APPEAL. MR. KITCHEN HAS ALL PHOTOS, ESTIMATES AND CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING THIS CASE. FOUR MONTHS OF WAITING ON A RELATIVELY SIMPLE MATTER IS INEXCUSABLE. *TR
WHILE HAVING MY 2008 ON THE ACCORD ES IN FOR ITS ANNUAL INSPECTION THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR BRAKE PADS HAD WORN TO THE POINT WHERE THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MILEAGE OF A VEHICLE AT THIS TIME WAS 22,000 MILES. WHEN I COMMENTED TO THE DEALER THAT THIS SEEMED LIKE EXORBITANT WEAR CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN 80% HIGHWAY DURING NON-RUSH-HOUR THEY REPLIED THAT THIS TYPE OF WEAR WAS NORMAL FOR THIS MAKE MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE. AFTER SOME QUICK RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED THAT MY ISSUE IS NOT UNIQUE. FORTUNATELY I HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE. 2008 HONDA ACCORD HAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM SPECIFICALLY REAR BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT EXTREMELY PREMATURELY AND FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARP. *DT THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS ONLY 5% REAR BRAKE PADS REMAINING. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NEVER ANY INDICATIONS OF GRINDING OR SQUEALING. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER WARRANTY. ON NOVEMBER 13, 2009 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE A SHIMMY WAS FELT ON TOP OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE CONSUMER BRAKED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE CONSUMERS WIFE NOTICED A SQUARE TIRE FEEL WHEN BRAKING SHORTLY AFTER THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED, BUT NEVER MENTIONED IT. THE DEALER FOUND THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND MACHINED THEM. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA ACCORD COUPE FROM HONDA OF SUPERSTITION SPRINGS IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA IN JANUARY 2008. I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THE VEHICLE UP UNTIL NOW. I RECENTLY MOVED TO ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING AND STARTED HEARING A STRANGE NOISE WHEN I DROVE MY VEHICLE, SO I TOOK IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT. I CAME TO FIND, THAT MY VEHICLE, WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES ON IT, NEEDED A NEW REAR BRAKE JOB. ROTORS AND PADS. THIS COST ME $496. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL WITH THE SAME ISSUE.HONDA WOULD NOT COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED MY PREVIOUS SERVICE ADVISOR IN PHOENIX, AND HE TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN THE SAME ISSUE ON NEWER ACCORDS. SEPTEMBER 14, 2008 AND ALSO ABOUT 8-10 DAYS BEFORE THAT DATE I EXPERIENCED A GET UP AND GO WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE RPMS CLIMBED AND I HAD I ALL COULD DO TO STAND ON THE BRAKE. I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND ON A SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE (4-6%) IN BOTH CASES. THE CAR WAS CREEPING FORWARD INSPITE OF MY EFFORTS TO BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL BEFORE THE LIGHT CHANGE. THE CAR ACTED NORMALLY AFTER THAT. MY LATEST EXPERIENCE PERHAPS 100 MILES LATER WAS MUCH MORE DRAMATIC. IN THIS CASE THE ENGINE RACE WAS MORE VIOLENT AND THE CAR SHUTTERED AS I STOOD ON THE BRAKES. I BELIEVE THE WHEELS WERE SPINNING AND I WAS CREEPING UPHILL. I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF MY FOOT WAS SQUARELY ON THE BRAKE AS DIDN'T WANT MY FOOT TO SLIP. MY RIGHT FOOT WAS SQUARELY ON MID PEDAL. I DO NOT DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT AND AM VERY SAFETY CONSCIENCE. THIS TIME I AGAIN WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. I DID SEE THE ENGINE RPM NEAR 5000 WHEN I WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I ENGINE WAS QUIET AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I RETURNED HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS. I LEFT THE CAR OUTSIDE, FEARING AN INCIDENT IN MY GARAGE. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON WET PAVEMENT OR SNOW? I PROMPTLY CONTACTED MY HONDA DEALER. AFTER TWO DAYS THEY HAVE YET TO REPRODUCE THIS PROBLEM. THEY APPEAR TO HAVE NO ANSWER. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE CAR OF LESS THAN 10,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR NOR ANY OF THE OTHERS BROUGHT THERE. THIS IS A GREAT DEALER.
