NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2017 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
AC is not working on Honda Accord LX 2017. There is a refrigerant leak. Now the Defogger does not work causing safety issue while driving if the windsheild requires defogging. Honda dealer diagnosed that the AC Compressor is leaking from the shaft seal which cannot be repaired unless entire compressor is changed. Honda does have recall/extended warranty for AC Compressor Shaft Seal other models such as Civic and CRV but on Honda Accord 2017 Models they have not extended the warranty on Compressor Shaft Seal yet.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the emergency brake warning light would intermittently flash on the instrument panel. One day while at a complete stop, the automatic emergency braking system activated without incident upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The dealer was notified about the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
After driving for about 20 -30 minutes there is a very, very loud noise that appears to come from the stereo speakers (even if the stereo system isn’t on). It is so loud that I do not hear emergency personnel coming. It has been several occasions that an accident is almost caused because of not being able to hear police or ambulance sirens. It just started happening out of nowhere. I have all factory equipment on the vehicle so I’m not sure why this is happening. Honda really need to fix this before there are fatalities.
The car is unable to be driven at no more than than 20 miles per hour. . I believe and other mechanic people believe that the problem was a fuel injection problem. Honda autopark Honda in cary, NC charged me $1500 to fix a water pump problem. No issues with temperature inside the car.
Radio emits loud static, on or off. Sometimes starts low and builds to high volume, sometimes full blast without warning. Cannot be silenced without stopping car and turning off. Dangerous especially in traffic. Honda defect reporting phone line acted as if they never heard such a thing, same from the service manager where the car was purchased new. Different honda dealer service manager said same. I told him online forums were loaded with reports just like mine. I asked him to take out his phone and search 2017 honda accord radio static....he said yeah I guess there alot of reports of this issue. I made one last at my original dealership to see if there was a recall in the works for the defective radio head. New from honda 2300 dollars just for the part. Definitely a safety Hazzard from a defective part. Problem is so pervasive multiple repair services have sprung up for this series of radios. All told cost me 500 dollars to do myself. Radio head has many functions including back up camera which is gone with fuse pulled. Honda lied to me when they acted as if they never heard of such failures. Last service manager admitted we change a couple of these radio heads a week.
Belt tensioner seized causing serpentine belt to slip and fail and loss of steering.
Back passenger door will not lock /unlock unless you do it manually..Daytime running lights on drivers side out and you have limited area of light at dusk/dawn.car is available for inspection
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and then lost motive power. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving on the highway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed fuel pump module. The contact was informed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I was driving straight on the freeway maintaining the speed limit when the driver side side curtain airbag and driver side seat airbag spontaneously deployed. Due to the loud noise and not expecting this to happen I was in complete shock but was able to safely move the car off the freeway with very obstructed vision due to the airbag being deployed. I lost temporary hearing in my left ear due to the loud explosive sound as well as it hitting me in the head. If it had been rush hour traffic this could have easily resulted in an accident killing myself as well as others on the road. The car was taken to a Honda dealership where it was inspected and a diagnostic test was done. There was no indication that the airbag should have deployed per the diagnostic test which concluded that no collision was suspected or detected thus deeming it as a result of a faulty sensor. There were no warning indicator lights at anytime that appeared prior to the incident. National Honda was notified by the dealership and they stated this was not their financial responsibility to repair but ours. I too contacted Honda services and field a claim and was told that we would be responsible for the cost of the repairs to fix the sensor and replace the airbag.
The driver seat belt has locked up, rendering it unusable. My mechanic confirmed that I needed a replacement seat belt; it cannot be repaired. I paid for a replacement seat belt 17 June 2024 from Val Strough Honda dealership in Seaside CA, a special order. Seat belts for 2017 Honda Accords have been back-ordered ever since. I have checked back every couple of months; still back-ordered 13 months later. At one time the dealer said there were 59 back-orders for that part. The dealer received one July 6th which went to a customer who had waited 2 years for it. Seat belts are required in California. I drive as many as 20,000 miles each year. If there is an accident, I have no seat belt that protects me from major injury or worse.
At first I thought this was an electrical problem but now it looks like it is the fuel pump. There is a struggle to turn the vehicle on. There are time that I step on the accelerator and it stalls. There are times while driving that it seems that the vehicle is just going to turn off. I am scared that it might turn off while I’m driving. This can cause me to have an accident. I know there has been a recall to 2018-2020 Honda Accord vehicle but I think there are plenty of 2017 models that are going through the same situation.
Driving on freeway, car went from 70mph to 40mph and would not accelerate, the gas pedal went down rpm went up, but car continued to slow down. Code came on dash, pulled over to not have accident. Honda TSB 23-076 torque converter, but they said will have to pay for transmission, which is part of transmission, and I have to pay deductible. What deductible on warranty??
A red passenger airbag indicator appears sometimes on my dashboard. I took it to the dealership, and they said it is a airbag in the car seat that is sending an alert. The alert only occurs when a passenger is in the car in that seat, however, even then it does not always appear
There is a VERY loud noise, static-like noise that is coming from my speakers. It won't stop if I turn the stereo off. When the temperature is high from either the outside weather or the heater, it seems to happen then. It now does it all the time if I've been driving for about 20mins. Everything is stock in my car and not modified. There are no warning lights, I have not taken it in to have it looked at yet. I've read that others have had the exact same issue with this model.
Check engine light on while driving on the freeway engine looses power and wants to stall like the fuel pump is not working all of the sudden. this is a safety issue .there is a recalled on honda accord 6 cly fuel pump but not on the 4 cly engines
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormally loud static noise would emit from the vehicle without warning. The contact stated that the failure would occur intermittently and that the contact would be forced to pull over and restart the vehicle for the failure to stop. As a result of the failure, the contact experienced a persistent ring noise in both ears, mainly the left ear. The contact sought medical treatment from a doctor and would use ear plugs while driving the vehicle to prevent further ear damage. The manufacturer was initially notified about the failure, the contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the failure but that a recall had yet to be placed on the vehicle. The manufacturer referred the contact to a local dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was given an estimate for the repair; the contact was later informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was on backorder. The contact reached back out to the manufacturer and a complaint was filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the steering wheel seized intermittently, causing the vehicle to strike a wall. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where cosmetic damages were repaired but the failure was not determined. The contact stated that shortly afterwards the steering wheel seized again. The contact mentioned that the vehicle had routine maintenance therefore the battery and alternator were currently new on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.
I don't have any problem in car!
The vehicle turn off and on while driving on the highway, is like the engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. I'm aware there's no recall on my vehicle, however, it's a known issue that Honda had voluntarily recall approximately 2.6 million 2017-2020 Honda vehicles in the United States to replace their fuel pumps, for free due to a similar issue. I have experience this issue of the vehicle shutting down then on while driving in the last couple of weeks and it's increasing each day. The accord was bought for my son to use, if he encounter an accident due to this fuel pump issue and he lose his life, someone would have to be held accountable.
Four lights appeared simultaneously in my dash. It drives fine, just had brakes and rotors replaced, have new tires, the dealership is saying it’s the ABS module that needs replaced and this part alone without labor costs $2200. I have researched and this is an extremely common issue with these Hondas. My vehicle has under 50,000 miles and is in great condition, it’s not feasible that this should be from wear and tear. And it’s occurring with many others of this model and a range of years of these with Honda.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance Dynamic Brake Assist activated unexpectedly. The contact stated that the message “BRAKE” was displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake sensor was dirty and needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was being diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while at a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle soon after the failures and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The check engine warning light disappeared after restarting the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V060000 (Fuel System, Other). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Lights came on the dashboard, then call was stalling while driving, and car is hard to stop, issue with the fuel pump for my model car and honda doesn't have my vin listed in the recall in which it should be. The recall is NHTSA Recall# [XXX] . My vehicle is having the same issues as the recall states that honda should cover. Currently own a 2017 Honda Accord Sport just over 100k miles, regularly maintained and serviced. All of a sudden my vehicle takes longer to start and the most shocking issue is that I was driving to work as normal and when I went to accelerate onto the interstate my vehicle suddenly started jerking and it seemed as though my vehicle was not getting fuel even though I was pressing the accelerator. I had to get off the interstate as I was almost hit by other vehicles merging onto the interstate. It is very frustrating that other trims of Accords are included in the recall except this model. This recall needs to be revised to reflect all models for all owners. I literally almost lost my life due to this.
All brake lights are displayed on dash, along with steering, tire, and ABS lights. I spoke with the dealership two years ago and the part has been backordered. They could not tell me when it would become available. I checked today and it's available and expensive. When driving my brakes shake. I've had the brakes repaired at least for times and they still don't fully brake properly.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that there was abnormal fuel consumption while driving on trips. The starter was replaced at the contact’s expense at a local dealer; however, the failure persisted. The check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. In addition, the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
MY BACK UP CAMERA WAS REPLACED IN 2018 DUE TO THE ORIGINAL ONE INSTALLED DURING THE MANUFACTURING STATE BEING DEFECTIVE AND GOING OUT WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. LAST YEAR MY CAMERA QUIT PROJECTING AN IMAGE ON THE SCREEN. I CAN ONLY SEE THE DIRECTIONAL LINES ON THE SCREEN WHEN IN REVERSE THAT CHANGE COLOR AND APPEARS TO WORK IF I AM OUT OF THE PARKING LINES AND THE SCREEN IS BLACK. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE CAMERA WILL FLASH AN IMAGE FOR A NANOSECOND ON THE SCREEN BEFORE GOING BLACK. I HAVE GONE TO HONDA REGARDING THIS BUT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY VIN IS A 2017. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I AM UNABLE TO SEE WHEN BACKING OUT. PLEASE CONSIDER EXTENDING THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE THE 2017 HONDA ACCORDS. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE.
Backup camera failed. Honda is keeping cheap quality backup cameras that are failing easily. I have seen 1.2 million cars recalled for back up camera issues. My vehicle back up camera not working properly. Very frequently it shows black screen. It works some times and does not work sometimes. This is a serious safety issue. Honda should take responsibility for this. My car model is 2017 honda accord.
My honda accord has 68,000 miles on it and the CVT transmission is failing. It's jerking, especially in low gears and rides rough. I've been doing some research on the CVT transmission and it's not good. I've been to two dealers a total of 4 times. Because the diagnostic does not register a problem, nor does engine light come on, I've been told transmission is fine..
I have a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. The Audio System or Radio has now become dangerous. I filed a complaint with American Honda and they said I had to take it to the dealer for diagnostic and that no Recall or Technical Service Bulletin on my car Audio exists. I created a YouTube video to show the problem. I contacted my local Honda Dealer but they want me to pay a Diagnostic fee. It is over $190 to diagnose the Audio system and no guarantee to fix. Replacement is estimated to be around $2,000. American Honda Customer Service should waive the diagnosis fee or reimburse me for any such independent dealer diagnosis fee. Here is my Youtube video complaint link: [XXX] I am asking for Honda America to Pay for or Reimburse me for getting a Diagnostic on my Audio System from any independent Honda Dealer. I am asking that based on previous customer complaints searchable on the internet that a Technical Service Bulletin or Recall of Audio Systems for Honda Accords from 2017 be created. I am asking for a free replacement of my Audio System despite the warranty being expired because the Deafening and Piercing Sounds are a HAZARD and danger to drivers like myself. There is terrible and Very Loud and Piercing Static coming from the Audio system and speakers even when the Audio system is turned Off on the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. It's intermittent but happens very often and lasts a long time. Many forums also describe similar problems across Hondas and years. Please recall or service bulletin this problem. The sound of Static is deafening and can't be volume controlled. I have been suffering from deafening sounds of intermittent static from the Audio system in my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. I can't afford to replace the Audio system and there are lots of Online comments from other owners with similar problems. Some say it is Antenna or loose wiring, but whatever the cause, it is dangerous and NHTSA should RECALL these cars. Speakers or Audio system. Randomly the speakers will get static or noise that comes through it with nothing plugged into it (USB or Bluetooth) and the radio can be off even. Safety issue that it gets progressively louder to the point where at hard to stay in car and drive it. Have to stop the car, turn it off and turn it on to keep driving but the sound returns if driving for more then 10 min. This might be issue that others having as well with 2016-2017 models. 2017 Honda Accord first noticed a tachometer that at town/hwy speeds would fluctuate a few rpm (surge and reduce) going down the road. Took to Honda dealer and they stated flushing the transmission fluid and to do so every 30K and have continued to do so, the surge and reduce subsided but, we also notice a loud cold start tic in the engine. After starting up cold, and engaging in drive the vehicle jerks and feels to stall suddenly causing forward motion of driver to the extent that the seat belt locks until the engine is normal temperature. This is a major problem in traffic with other vehicles around for your car to suddenly jerk back and may even cause rear end accidents from other vehicles behind putting driver and surrounding vehicles/drivers at risk for an accident. This tic and jerking in this 2017 Honda Accord V6 EX-L started at around 120K miles and has continued to tic and jerk until the engine is a normal temperature Tac surge/reduce has not been as prevalent with transmission fluid flushing. When vehicle is up to full temp the tic and jerking subside until normal temp the jerking/stalling continues at any rate of speed. There have been no warning lamps or messages since the onset of this problem. This 2017 Accord currently has 150K
Abs, traction, eps, and brake lights stay on. This causes the traction and brakes not to work properly. Bought my car 10 months ago from Honda and this started about 3 months after. The solenoid is faulty and have heard from several other owners the same. This can be a serious problem for drivers. Part is not available from private auto stores. Only dealership which causes more concern and they should be held liable for components that fault in breaking the vehicle. 2017 Honda accord. Was inspected by Honda on purchase 2023 is what they say. Took in for a oil change 2024 and they do full inspection for free and when I brought it up they said they didn't check it with all lights on.
Vehicle stalled while travelling. I suspect this is a problem of the high pressure fuel pump gathering particulates and not working as proper. There is a similar recall regarding the V6 models of my vehicle, however, the 4 cylinder models were left unaddressed.
Honda issued a recall for the torque converter on my 2017 Honda Accord. I had received the paperwork in June of this year and have been battling with them ever since. I had to have my transmission replaced due to repeated issues with my torque converter code appearing and lose of power over a year ago. After losing power going uphill several times and being fearful of causing a crash, I had to have it repaired. In January 2024, I paid an independent car repair facility(DynoTrans in Temecula, CA) $4,200 to replace my entire transmission because of this recurring issue. I have submitted the receipts from the facility to Honda and because they requested "proof" of our cash payment, screenshots of both mine and my husband's bank statements showing cash withdrawals(since we paid the owner in cash in order to get a cash discount), and Honda is denying to reimburse us for this repair, even though it is a nationwide recall, a known issue, that I had paid for out of my pocket to have repaired prior to them ever issuing a recall due to this recurrent issue with the torque converter. I feel like this is an illegitimate denial and therefore am filing this complaint. Sandra P. is the representative that I have been in contact with from Honda.
Infotainment system sends out massive distortion, crackling and popping noises through all of the car, audio speakers. Extremely loud and will even happen when you have pushed the power off button to the audio system. Car is undrivable. It’s so loud and could see someone being startled on the highway when this starts. It’s very frequent in hot weather and can stop and start very suddenly. This is all original Honda parts. No modifications.
Driving at highway speed and sunroof glass spontanious exploded. Wasn't under any over passes or behind any vehicles. Luckily, I had the inside cover closed or I would've gotten shards of glass on my head and face while I was driving.
I have a 2017 Honda Accord that the back up camera is not working. I sent an incident report previously. I see the 2017 back up camera has a recall. How can I get my camera repaired? The broken camera did cause an accident.
On 12-7-2023 I was driving home from work and all of a sudden my car started sputtering and slowing down until it stopped completely in heavy evening traffic. It would not restart so I had it towed. I had a mechanic check it out and he said it was the fuel pump.
Computer sensor, fuel pump, starter the car stalls while cranking and stalls while driving like it wants to shut off. The car wont go over 60 miles without skipping the engine and when the car stops the engine cuts off.
I had noticed a couple of weeks ago that I would try and start the car and it was struggling to start. Two weeks ago I tried to turn on my car and it would not start. I had to jump start it. I went out to run errands. I tried turning the car on again and it would not start. Once again I had to jump start it. Thinking it was the battery, I took it to O'Reilly's since it was still under warranty. The battery was good. They told me to take the car to run a scan. The scan showed no issues with the car. I googled what was happening to my car and I saw it's a common issue with these cars. Since the time I bought the car, I have already had to replace the battery 4 times which is odd because batteries last about 3 years and they are only lasting 1.5 years. As of today, it has been turning on but I can still hear it struggling to turn on.
Multiple safety lights on dash including brakes, ABS, power steering, traction control. Multiple incidents where vehicle braking exceeded safety standards.
I was driving on the interstate when the car started to sputter like it was about to kill then several warning lights came on. The check engine light, the steering light and the road traction lights. I got off on the nearest exit and call the tow truck because I was afraid to drive it. It was hesitant to start. I had my new born grandson and daughter with me at the time. This was a very scary situation!
The paint on the hood of the car contains several chips and the paint on the entire hood has faded and has lost its color which was black, The appearance now appears to be faulted.
The high pressure fuel pump is failing on my 2017 honda accord. There is currently a recall for this issue on the 2017 honda accord v6 models but not mine. I was driving down the highway and my car went into safe mode causing the car to slow/power down and cause traffics issues. All of my warning lights came on alerting me that there was a problem. This affects the safety of others and puts everyone at risk.
Around [XXX] on [XXX], I was driving my 2017 Honda Accord LX on [XXX] East in northwestern New Jersey. The first signs of trouble were multiple warning lights (Check Engine and many others) appearing suddenly on the dashboard. There was a total loss of engine power and the tachometer dial dropped abruptly to zero. As I applied the brakes to slow down and move onto the shoulder of the highway, I realized that I also had no power brakes or steering. When the car was nearly stopped on the shoulder, I saw smoke filling the cabin and flames coming from under the engine hood toward the windshield. We quickly exited the car and called 911. The State Police and Fire Department arrived on the scene within 10 minutes but by that time the fire had spread to the interior cabin. The car was inspected by insurance representatives and declared a total loss. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Numerous complaints and visits to the Honda dealer and phone calls to American Honda, About the stereo system in my 2017 Honda Accord, while driving the radios abruptly cuts off and starts making extremely loud static noise, even after turning the system off the static persists with no way to shut it off without having to turning the car off or pulling over to remove the fuse that powers the system. I try buying a new stereo system from the dealer at extremely high price but the radios have been on back order for over 2 years. And an after market system will be extremely labor intensive and having to make major modifications. I bought the car new and been driving the car without the radio for 2 years. Please help.
1) ABS Module 2) ABS break is not working. So it puts myself and others at risk. 3) Yes. 4) N/A 5) It has traction control, steering wheel, and ABS lights on. It appeared when the vehicle hits 70k. Honda should do a recall on this issues. This is a wide known issues for 9th gen Honda Accord owners
