NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.

I own a 2018 Honda Accord and have been experiencing an ongoing issue where multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard at the same time. The lights include several safety and system warnings, making it look like many different systems in the vehicle are malfunctioning simultaneously. I have taken the vehicle to be serviced and attempted to fix the issues that were identified. However, even after repairs were made, the dashboard warning lights continue to stay on or return shortly after. It has become frustrating because the vehicle continues to show problems even when something has already been repaired. This situation makes it difficult to know whether there is a real safety issue occurring with the car or if the warning system itself is malfunctioning. Having so many warning lights on at once also creates concern about the reliability and safety of the vehicle, especially since several of the warnings relate to important systems such as braking, driver assistance features, and engine performance. After researching the issue, I discovered that many other owners of the 2018 Honda Accord have reported experiencing the same problem with multiple dashboard warnings appearing at once. Because this appears to be a widespread issue, I am submitting this complaint so it can be documented and investigated further. I believe there may be an underlying defect causing these repeated warning lights despite repairs being made.
For the past three years, I have leased a 2018 Honda accord which I got for my wife and my child due to the "safety features " Of the vehicle. But all of a sudden throughout the years it has been breaking out of nowhere while driving on the highway with no objects obstructing front or sides. It was a kind of scary going from 70 mph for almost a complete stop in the times that it happened luckily there was no vehicle following close behind of could have been a pretty bad rear-end collision. I never took the vehicle in for repairs as it did it a total of 5 times in the three years. Now that I have purchased the vehicle it has a front camera issue that has disabled all safety driving features which are being looked into. The fact that other know Honda owners have experienced the same issue seems like a Honda needs to look into this problem.
Vehicle was placed into service June 2018 and ever since randomly will apply the brakes without driver input even when no obstacles are present. This has happened more than 25 times. There is no rhyme or reason for it, it just happens out of the blue. Luckily, the driver can override the automatic braking by quickly depressing the gas pedal.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at 25 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact drove safely to an unknown dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with spark plugs and electrical failures. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
From time to time my AEB will flash on my dash. A lot of my driving is highway so I can be driving anywhere between 40-65 mph given the road I'm on. On two separate occasions my car has flashed and braked abruptly while I was doing about 50 mph. The brake indication still flashes sometimes, the most recent was today.
2018 Accord tachometer LCD just black no showing of anything at all. Can’t see no mileage no information at all.
My vehicle randomly slams on the brakes without the touching the brake pedal. I’ve taken to my local Honda and they state there is nothing wrong and can’t fix anything if they see no warning lights
I just learned of the investigation the NHTSA is doing regarding the sudden braking issue on Honda Accords. My 2018 Honda Accord Sport has done this maybe 15-20 times, in most cases with no visual or audible alert before braking. There have however been a few instances when the vehicle DOES sound a visual and audible alert for no reason, but doesn't brake. Here's a clue: there are two very specific areas near our home in which it seems to happen most (I can tell you the specific areas if you are interested). I have not been involved in an accident as a result of this problem, but I can certainly see how it could happen.
The automatic collision avoidance, braking system sometimes when it has brought to a near stop locks down. It happens when I am on cruise control and let the system slow me down. When this happens it won't bring me up to speed when the car in front of me pulls away. I have to give it some some gas to break free. It's happened several times over the last few months.
Vehicle safety collision system has tried to stop my vehicle on at least 3 occasions when nothing was in front of it. Happened on highway. Vehicle sensed a ghost and slammed on the brakes. The cmbs system gives errors often and tries to shut systems down and brake the car while traveling. Happens often and has happened since the car was new. Dealer has no idea about issues.
Vehicle occasionally displays large orange "BRAKE" warning on dash when there are no vehicles or obstructions ahead. It then applies the brakes. This happens both when Adaptive Cruise Control is engaged, and when it is not.
I purchashed the Honda Accord new and it has 17,800+ miles. As I am driving usually highway driving it just suddenly decides to brake without my foot on the brake pedal. There doesn't seem to be any regular pattern. It has happened several times always on the highway at speed. A week ago it happened on a Sunday morning, changed lanes to ge into the off ramp lane and without warning it applied the brake. Fortunately there was nobody behind me. Thank you and if I can provide any furthe information please let me know. I do think there should be a recall issued to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. The Collision Mitigation Braking System, check engine, Lane Departure, brake warning lights and other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and continued to drive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the spark plugs were replaced; however, the warnings illuminated while driving hours later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown extended warranty as the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Driving on occasion the “brake” warning sign lights up on dash (no one in front of me) in one instance last week it activated the brake system for me while I was driving on the highway. Again no car in front of me!
Breaks came on for no apparent reason and put vehicle into a side ways skid. Lane Landed up in meridian .
I was driving and there were no objects or obstructions near my car when all of a sudden the car randomly breaks on its own for no reason. It startled me and jolted me forward. Luckily I was only going about 40mph at the time and nobody was behind me. I thought it was strange and didn't think anything of it. Then I saw an article about other people having these same issues and it reminded me about what happened. I traded the car in and told the dealer what happened. They said they would take a look at it, but never heard anything about what caused it or why it happened.
Approximately 4 days ago came out to my car (in the garage) to discover a large stress crack in my windshield starting at the very edge of the lower right portion into the drivers view. No rock damage was visible the windshield nor was there any kind of accident. Took it to my Honda dealership, and got a shrug in response. They wanted insurance to cover it. I was told that this problem is quite common with the 2018 2.0 T models, but nothing has been done.
I was on a hill my car stalled I hit the gas pedal it wouldn't accelerate so I let off the padel and went to try to accelerate for the second time but as I did it took off and I hit a pole
The system regularly malfunctions and it has almost caused 2 accidents. You expect the car to stop but it fails. The brakes also have issues and now my car starts without even pressing my foot on the brake first. I have over 10 warning lights due to safety system issues.
Has going 35mph when the car suddenly applied brakes full force. There was nobody or anything in front of the car. Got a warning massage about the cmbs and to see dealer. Scary stuff. It could cause me to get rear ended.
Three or four times in the 4 years since we purchased our 2018 Accord Touring it has unexpectedly applied its brakes and illuminated the AEB (orange) warning light on the instrument cluster. This has happened when the car was being driven in heavy traffic at highway speeds and (the latest occurrence) when the car was stationary but traffic on each side was accelerating. Except for the time the car was stationary I could feel the car was being braked at a moderate rate and each time the dashboard instruments were lit up orange. Each time the event resolved by itself in a second or two and did not recure for months/years. I have not complained to the dealer as the symptom is so random.
Our AC system stops blow cold air. After doing some research, a lot of Honda owners have AC problems. Most likely the cause could possible be AC compressor, or condenser which can cost 2000 or more to replace. Our car is most latest model 2018 Honda Accord and AC has stopped working. This should have been a call so we don't have to pay dealers to fix AC issue. Please contact Honda corporation and help us resolving this AC as warm and hot days are approach in California. It is terrible that this AC can happen to new cars.
I want to report that I experienced the random emergency braking that you are currently investigating. It only happened once, about a month ago: I was driving along a paved country road on a straightaway (~40mph). Daytime/clear, dry paved roads. There was no traffic in either direction and no wildlife in my path. The car braked very hard very suddenly. The brake warning light did come on. Had there been someone behind me, my car would have been rear-ended. I was alone and uninjured. I did not report this to the dealer, even though I'm POSITIVE that there was no visible object in the roadway that would trigger the sudden braking.
Vehicle suppression system for the airbags switch failed at 54000 miles. The air bags do not work unless switch is working!
The car will automatically brake itself when no car in anywhere close to being in front of me. This only happens when I am going from the current lane to a left hand turn lane. It only happens when I do NOT have my blinkers activated. The braking does NOT happen when I use my blinkers. My best guess is the the use of the blinkers deactivates or overrides the sensors. This issue only happens at one particular turn near my house. I believe it has something to do with the lines painted on the road and how the sensors are reading them, but that is just a theory. This happens every time I drive by this intersection.
The emergency braking anti collision system will engage when I am driving and there is nothing in front of me, regardless if there is a car or even a shadow the system will start to engage. I've had this happen on multiple occasions whether driving on a highway or neighborhood street. This has not been inspected by anyone yet and has not yielded any damage or accidents just yet.
Half of my front and back windows don’t defrost making it hard to see also I keep getting a supplemental restraint system problem
Supplemental Restraint System failure will pop up at random times maybe every other drive, then that code goes away. Just recently the ACC and Brake System flashes "Problem see dealer" as well as the head unit/display turning off and then back on intermittently. Front interior lights will turn on then turn off, sometimes immediately, and this has all been in the last year they've compiled. Closer to when I got my car a couple of years ago, the cruise control would just turn off and the automatic braking would start to slow the vehicle down. I attribute this to the "emergency braking" feature that would stop me with nothing in front of me, so it has been disabled ever since. Unfortunately my car doesn't fall under the VIN registry for the software recall, and from the looks of the other complaints this seems to be common problem with this car. If these issues are present I'm not sure why Honda would be so reluctant to accept that the recall affected a larger number of vehicles than they had initially thought. May have to get in contact with Honda Corporate.
My vehicle will randomly lose power while driving, lights will flash and then car will just stop and turn off. Try to turn car back on and all these lights are flashing and engine light stays on with codes. Taken my car to performance Honda MULTIPLE of times, paid to get it towed, Honda continues to say they don’t know what’s wrong with it. I’ve recorded videos of my car losing power and given them to Honda and they still couldn’t provide any answers after having my vehicle for 6 months on and off. My car continued to do the same thing all over again after Honda ended up putting used spark plugs in my car and I returned my car to Honda again. They replaced fuel pump and I made it 30 minutes home and my car broke down in the middle of an intersection on the highway again and all my fuel was all over the road. Honda came and got my car again. Car is not even reliable to have my kids in. This has been the worst vehicle I’ve ever owned and no dealer will even let me trade the car in because of all the recalls this model has had and how many customers have complained. I’m at a total loss and now a loss of a vehicle I have to pay on and can get rid of it for something safe to have my kids in. I’ve only had this car for 3 years and the last two years have had the same continuous problems with no explanation. Honda just clears the codes and gives the car back every time they have it. I’ve had to call 911 to have cops come and block my vehicle on the highway because it’s broken down with me and my kids in the car and my car wouldn’t start so I could move it. Honda knows about the continuous problems and has record of having none stop. No lights or anything on prior to car just losing power and turning off or not going over 20 mph and going into limp mode.
Randomly the car will just stop itself and it’s happened several times on the freeway. It has happened while driving straight, exiting and in traffic. There’s never something in front of me like another car, person or animal. It’s happened more than 5 times when both my husband and I are driving.
The door locks on my vehicle don't always work as they should. Often times only one or two of the doors lock and unlock, and it is not always the same two doors. I was told that the BCM recall would likely fix the problem when I took in for recall about a year or so ago. During my most recent trip on January 14, 2022, I was told that the problem is my actuators. After a quick inquiry I found that Honda has experienced this issue with this model before as well as other models. I wasn't aware that the locks weren't engaging for quite some time which meant that I was driving with unlocked car doors. There were no indicators that the doors were unlocked.
While driving there was no vehicles in front of me, my car started flashing “BREAK, BREAK,” and then the car completely stopped. There was a semi behind me, fortunately he was able to get into a different lane to avoid hitting me.
My vehicle randomly applies the brakes during normal driving with no obstacle in its way. This happens intermittently but poses danger as there will be no car in front of me so applying the brakes and halting my car could cause the car behind me to drive into my vehicle.
The air conditioner in the car had stopped working and is only blowing out hot air
fuel injector, pipe set and ring had to be replaced. Car kept on displaying misfire and did not run good
1-When I would hit the remote to unlock the doors it would make a weird noise. 2-After a few days I started hearing the noises in the gas cap area and in the gearshift when I put the car in gear. 3-Shortly after that, all of the warning indicators on the dashboard began to come on at the same time-3a- Brake Performance may be reduced, then the automatic emergency brake came on when there was nothing in front of me getting off on an exit ramp; 3b- Brake System-Electric Parking Brake Problem-3c- Vehicle stability 3d-Safety support system; 3e-ABS Anti-lock brake system; 3f-Systems Initiating message while in driving and in park; 3g Failure to disengage the parking brake. All of the above issues have the ability to put mine and others at risks of injury or worse if not properly addressed! Thankfully, there were no injuries or accidents. I took it to the Honda Dealership and left it, The tech called and told me that I had a problem with the fuel induction and I needed battery, which does not address any of the issues- so I feel like no one is taking these issues serious which is a problem. I am sure there are some details that I have forgotten, I will resubmit if that is the case. Please do something to address these issues. This vehicle is only 3 years old and should not have these major issues. With so many complaints of the same issues with the same model and year, I am appalled that NTHSA NOR HONDA is taking this seriously enough to issue a recalls or open an investigation. It seems that our safety and the safety of others is of no consequence to you all! PLEASE ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY!!!
Possible glitch that sometimes causes the car randomly slam on brakes or slow down with out the driver touching the brake pedal.
Front suspension makes rattling noise when driving over small bumps. Additionally, the suspension system makes loud knock sound when coming to a full stop.
When driving this car at any speed above 30 mph the steering wheel sticks when attempting to turn or make any steering adjustments. This happens while the steering wheel is centered and the car is moving strait forward. This is a dangerous situation when driving in heavy traffic at highway speeds .
Two times, pulling into my driveway at a slow speed, the car automatically stopped suddenly. There were no shadows to provoke this. I have not seen a dealer about this because I did not want to incur any fees. No warning, no dash lights appeared and no other messages were displayed. The first occurrence happened about 3 months ago, the second was about 4 weeks ago.
Transmission unable to go into reverse. Terrible vibration when shifting and abrupt deceleration. Required a new transmission.
I will just be driving down the highway and sometimes the orange BRAKE light will light up and sometimes it will light up and just start slowing down. Several times I will be the only car moving thru an intersection with a green light and it will light up BRAKE and hit the brake. Not being ready to brake for no reason it throws us forward luckily we wear our seat belts, but I'm pretty sure safety equipment isn't supposed to do that.
All warning indicator lights came on and I took car to a Certified Auto Mechanic who said it was caused by the fuel pump problems surrounding Honda cars. Said it affected the fuel injectors (mis-fire) and I should take it to Honda dealer for fix. Honda dealer said this VIN of my 2018 Honda is not on the recall. I asked about being covered by the 5 year power train warranty and was told that this did not fall under that warranty. The auto mechanic said he would have to charge around $2000 to replace the fuel injector (1), but the others would probably go bad unless everything (Pump and injectors) were replaced. There over 500 complaints with NHTSA on this year model and over 200 of those are similar problems that match prior recalls for same model and year but different vin numbers. The reports from Honda to NHTSA regarding selected "recall" units does not prevent other problems identified due to Indian defective parts surrounding the fuel pump problems. If I read all the details correctly only hundreds of just 10,000 recalls have been completed. Why would Honda/NHTSA not want to include the few other hundred that may be present to prevent accidents and uphold the Honda reputation of quality?
Ive noticed my rear brake pads are wearing out faster than my front brake pads. In which this is a front wheel drive car and the engine is in the front
The passenger side air bag is not working. Even with a passenger on the seat, the air bag indicator is OFF. Sometimes the airbag indicator works but most times it does not detect a passenger
Supplemental restraint system malfunction which could lead to failure of airbags to deploy. This is a fairly new car and the indicator for failure of this system appeared with no prior collision, deployment of airbags, or tampering with system. Non-deployment of airbags in the event of a collision is a major safety hazard due to a randomly malfunctioning system. The problem has not been confirmed by dealer or independent service and has not been inspected. There is a warning message that appears that does not state what the issue with the restraint system is (electronic or mechanical).
Rear brake pads wore out prematurely due to electric parking brake malfunction. Three different service writers at the Honda dealership acknowledged this as a known issue and stated they’ve seen it multiple times on this model. Honda refuses to acknowledge the issue and take responsibility. Front brakes show no signs of premature wear and are still in good “safe” condition. Mechanic at non-Honda service center agreed rear brakes wore out long before they should have and in a manner not related to normal wear and tear.
It randomly brakes even on highway with no obstacle in front.
Vehicle suddenly stopped turning over, replaced battery incase it wasn’t enough. Vehicle had a little under a quarter tank of gas so added another gallon or two and that brought it up to 1/2 a tank. Vehicle turned on once rough then smoothed out and then shut off in the road 10 minutes later. There are recalls for this exact problem with other Honda Accords my year but my vin did not qualify in the listing.Car belongs to grandmother Diana evans my name is Quinten and I am currently using my friends phone because mine is broken and she has been helping me with the vehicle.
Passenger airbag cutoff indicator shorted-out, causing my passenger side airbag to have the potential not to deploy in the event on an accident. Vehicle is less than four years old and numerous problems are cropping up with the electrical equipment, including this short of the passenger airbag cutoff indicator, which I believe is a safety issue.
