CAR SHUTS DOWN AT RANDOM INTERVALS WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THIS IS AN IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. USUALLY RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY. VERY DANGEROUS!! HAS DIED IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC!! IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED PREVIOUSLY DUE TO RECALL, EVIDENTLY THIS IS A RECURRING DEFECT. *TR
I HAVE A 98 HONDA CIVIC LX, IT SEEMS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ON THESE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE THEY CRACK AND THE GAS EMISSIONS ARE CIRCULATED TO THE CABIN OF THE AUTOMOBILE. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SHOULD NOT CRACK ON NORMAL USE. CARBON MONOXIDE CO COULD LEAK TO THE CABIN OF THE CAR, AND IS POISONOUS TO HUMANS AND CHILDREN. THERE ARE A LOT OF HONDA CIVICS OUT HERE WITH CRACK EXHAUST MANIFOLD, IT IS HARD TO FIND THE CULPRIT, BECAUSE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS COVERED WITH A METAL COVER, BUT YOU WILL NOTICE THE SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE CAR, WHEN THE CAR IS AT RUNNING. THE NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE ON THIS DEFECTIVE. *TR
FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH ON A 1998 HONDA CIVIC EX AT 110,000 MILES. IT WAS CAUSING FREQUENT STALLING AND DANGEROUS SITUATIONS AT TIMES. WE HAVE HAD IT REPLACED BUT NOT SURE IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE ON THIS CAR. *TR
WHILE DRVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE JUST QUITS. THERE IS NO STUTTERING, STALLING, OR ENGINE MISFIRES, IT QUIETLY JUST QUITS. THE RADIO, HEATER FAN, BRAKE LIGHTS STILL WORK BUT NOT THE SIGNAL LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND BUSY STATE ROADS, CREATING HAVOC AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STITUATIONS AS OTHER CARS SWERVE AND ANGRILY HONK HORNS TO AVOID A COLLISION. WHEN I FINALLY COME A STOP AND TRY TO RE-START, IT IMMEDIATELY RE-STARTS AND RUNS OKAY. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT WHEN IT WILL QUIT - WEATHER AND ROAD CONDITIONS ARE NOT CONSISTENT WHEN IT FAILS EACH TIME. MY MECHANIC FIRST REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I DID A WEB SEARCH AND SAW THAT THERE IS A HONDA RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND OTHER WORKTWO HONDA DEALERS HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO OTHER THAN TO WITH HONDA CIVICS AND OTHER MODELS, INCLUDING 1998. UNFORTUNATELY, MY HONDA DEALER SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THE POTENTIALLY FATAL DEFECT MY CAR HAS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IS THE SAME BASIS FOR THE HONDA IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ISSUED IN 2002. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CIVIC. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP BUT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT VARIOUS ENGINE AND FUEL COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND REFERENCED RECALL 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR STARTING. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN IT TAKES A WHILE AND WHEN IT STARTS AND I GET OUT AND THEN BACK TO START IT THE SAME THING HAPPENS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
SINCE 2006 WE HAVE HAD SEVEN REPLACEMENTS OF THE HEADLIGHTS. HONDA HAS CHANGED BULBS AND ENTIRE HARNESSES. WE HAVE NOT BEEN TICKETED YET AT NIGHT, BUT THAT AND HAVING AN ACCIDENT ALWAYS HANGS OVER OUR HEAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS CAME OUT OF THE ROLLING TRACK CONSTANTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO REMOVE THE DOOR PANEL IN ORDER TO PUT THE WINDOW BACK ON THE RAIL AND RESOLVE THE ISSUE EACH TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE MECHANISM THAT ALLOWED THE WINDOWS TO BE OPENED OR CLOSED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MADE THE REPAIR BUT FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES MENTIONED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 194,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 195,000.
MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE HONDA IGNITION SWITCH. MY VIN# SAYS OTHERWISE. HOWEVER, MY CAR IS HAVING ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS. I ALMOST HIT A WALL ON THE INTERSTATE TODAY BECAUSE MY CAR "QUIT". MY CAR HAS DONE THIS A COUPLE TIMES. IF IT DIES WITH OUT WARNING, USUALLY I CAN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND START IT AGAIN... IF IT STARTS. I AM HAVING TROUBLE TALKING WITH THE HONDA DEALERSHIPS AROUND HERE TRYING TO GET THIS FIGURED OUT. I DRIVE INTERSTATE EVERYDAY TO WORK AND BACK. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS AND DEADLY CRASH WITH ME AND/OR MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. *TR
MY !998 HONDA CIVIC EX STALLED ON FREEWAY WHILE GOING AT 50MPH. IT WAS DUE TO FAILURE OF IGNITION SWITCH. HONDA HAD A RECALL ON CERTAIN VAN MODELS ONLY AND MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST. MY SAFETY IS AT STAKE HERE SO ARE OTHERS WHO DRIVES A HONDA. ALTHOUGH I HAVE 162,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE SWITCH AS FAR AS I KNOW IS NOT AN ITEM CALLED OUT FOR REPLACEMENT AS PART OF THE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE. SO HOW WOULD I KNOW WHEN TO REPLACE IF IT IS NOT AN ITEM THAT IS A REQUIRED ATTENTION WHEN VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND LIFE ENDANGERING PROBLEM. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR STALLED. *TR
CAR WOULDN'T START, JAN 10, 2009 WAS TAKEN TO SERVICE STATION,BATTERY OK ENGINE OK, CHARGING SYSTEM OK, COMPUTER SYSTEM OK THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, CAR WOULD START FINE,NOTHING WAS DONE TO IT. 11 DAYS LATER CAR WOULDN'T START,SO IGNITION STARTER WAS REPLACED. CAR WAS OK UNTIL JAN 26(5 DAYS AFTER NEW CAR IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED) CAR IS STILL IN REPAIR SHOP. JUST FOUND OUT ON INTERNET ABOUT PROBLEMS AND RECALL OF 98 HONDA CIVIC IGNITION SWITCH. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO WHAT TO DO NEXT, NEED CAR FOR WORK TRAVEL. I AM AFRAID FOR MY LIFE TO USE THIS CAR NOW. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT AT ALL. *TR
HONDA, CIVIC DX, 1998, TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TRANSMISSION REFUSES TO SMOOTHLY OPERATE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR OVER TO SECOND TO THIRD, AND TO FOURTH, THE RPMS'S REVS UP/SPEED UP BETWEEN GEARS AND THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR. HAVE 120,000 MILES ON CAR. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BROADSIDE ANOTHER CAR WITH MY FRONT END. THE FRONT OF MY CAR ENDED UP BEING TOTALED AND MY 1998 HONDA CIVIC EX AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I CONTACTED BOTH HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY REFERRED ME TO THERE 2 FIELD SPECIALISTS. THERE REPLY WAS MY SEAT BELT SENSOR TOLD MY AIRBAG SENSOR IT DID NOT NEED TO DEPLOY. HONDA SAID I HAD NO CASE WITH THEM. I THINK ALL I GOT IS THE RUN AROUND. I HONESTLY WANT THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. ALSO TO KNOW WHY HONDA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY MAKE. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAG FAILED FOR SOME REASON!! I HAVE HAD 2 PRIOR NECK SURGERIES AND RECEIVED SEVERAL INJURIES FROM THIS ACCIDENT. *TR
WHEN MY 1998 HONDA CIVIC WAS AT 90,891 MILES, THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS ABOUT $1000. ONLY 2 YEARS LATER, THEY TOLD ME THE NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS REPLACEMENT PART SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER BUT HE WAS UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THIS REPAIR AND CHARGED ME ANOTHER $1000 TO REPAIR IT AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE HIM TO REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL HIS AFTERMARKET ALARM SYSTEM, IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RE-INSTALLATION. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 144,872.
ON FEB. 10, 2008, I WAS DRIVING MY HONDA CIVIC LX ON HIGHWAY 400, JUNCTION 89, MY CAR LOST CONTROL, AND BECAUSE THERE WERE SNOW ON THE GROUND, I CANNOT STOP THE CAR, I KEEP ON PUMPING THE BRAKE, AS IF I USED THE ABS, I WOULD HAVE SLIDE DOWN TO THE VALLEY. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT ABLE TO HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR AT ALL AND IT HIT HEAD ON THE GUARD RAIL, THE WHOLE FRONT AND ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY CRUSHED. WITH SUCH KIND OF IMPACT, THE AIR BAG SHOULD DEPLOY, BUT IT DID NOT DEPLOY, THE CAR WAS UNREPAIRABLE AND IS A TOTAL WRITE OFF. THE POLICE AND THE AMBULANCE TOOK ME TO THE HOSPITAL. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, AS ONE TIME A WOMAN CAME OUT FROM A PLAZA WITHOUT LOOKING THAT IT IS ALL CLEAR, HER TRUCK HIT THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE RIGHT FRONT OF MY CAR, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. *TR
ON OCTOBER 30, 2004, I HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED ON MY 1998 HONDA CIVIC PER THE RECALL. IN LATE DECEMBER OF 2007, I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY CAR. ON SIX OCCASIONS, MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING -- ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE (UNDER CONSTRUCTION -- WITH NO SHOULDER). THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH, BUT SAID THAT SINCE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN CARE OF PER THE RECALL, I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE 3 YEAR OLD REPLACEMENT ($364.). I SAVED THE IGNITION THAT THEY REPLACED THIS TIME -- THEY DID NOT ALLOW ME TO SAVE THE IGNITION THE FIRST TIME (2004) (THEY SAID, BECAUSE IT WAS A RECALLED PART). NOTE: THIS IS A HONDA CIVIC (THIS SITE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT MODEL FROM THE PULL-DOWN MENU). *CN
THE CAR STALLED ON THE FREEWAY, RESTARTED THE CAR AND PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. PROBLEM THEN CONTINUED AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY. IT WOULD RESTART EACH TIME. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR FACILTY.FOLSOM CAR CARE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND ADVISED ME OF A HONDA RECALL CAMPAIGN. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER (MEL RAPTON HONDA, SACRAMENTO, CA. THEY ADVISED ME THIS VEHICLE BY VIN WAS NOTE INCLUDED. I CALL FOLSOM CARE BACK AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HAD HONDA DENY A CAMPAIGN SO HE CALL SHINGLE SPRINGS HONDA AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. I THEN AUTHORIZED FOLSOM CARE CARE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH P/N 35130-S04-305 (SAME ONE AS IN THE RECALL)AND THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED. THIS IS A 1998 CIVIC THAT BY MODEL AND YEAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT HONDA HAS DENIED MY CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT SYMPTOMS, FAILURE MODE, AND REPAIRS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. THIS WAS A VERY UNSAFE FAILURE (STALLING ON THE FREEWAY). *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAVE A BIG CRACK CAUSING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND EXHAUST FUMES TO MIGRATE TO THE CABIN SINCE IT IS IN FRONT OF THE CAR. HONDA HAVE AN EXISTING SERVICE BULLETIN 98-081 THAT ONLY COVERS 96-97 CIVICS AND NOT 1998 MODELS BUT THEY DID NOT DO THE RE-DESIGN UNTIL 99. IT IS A WELL KNOWN FLAW BUT HONDA DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR IT. *TR
1) TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN A 1998 HONDA CIVIC LX FOR THE SECOND TIME AND WITH ONLY 115,000 MILES. 2) TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED PRIOR WHEN CAR HAD 59,000 MILES. 3) TRANSMISSION (THIRD ONE NOW) REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE DISTRIBUTOR AND THE IGNITION CABLE. THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURE WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V120000 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UNLESS THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE BLOCK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 10/24/07. *JB
HEADLIGHTS/INTERIOR LIGHTS BEGAN TO "FLICKER", SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR STALLS/ENGINE CUTS OFF WHEN CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED. PROBLEM WITH POWER MANAGEMENT. CAUSED BY A CHAFFED WIRE UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GROUNDING OUT. *JB
I AM LOOKING FOR HELP. MY 98 HONDA CIVICS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I PARKED MY VEHICLE, TURNED THE IGNITION OFF & BOTH AIR BAGS EXPLODED IN MY FACE! DON CARLTON HONDA IN TULSA DID LOOK AT THE CAR & STATED IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SAYS THE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT IS A MANUFACTURER MALFUNCTION. AS I AM CONDUCTING MY RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THE INFERIOR ALGORITHMS IS A KNOWN AIRBAG DEFECT AND THAT THEY CAN DEPLOY OR FIRE FOR NO REASON, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT BELIEVE ME. I AM OUT $3,800 ASSETT, I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION, I AM A SINGLE MOTHER GOING TO SCHOOL FULL TIME, THIS IS VERY STRESSFUL. I AM SO AFRAID THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AS I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WITH MY 2 YR OLD IN THE CAR! WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! HOW MANY OTHER HONDA DRIVERS ARE AT RISK? *TR THE CONSUMER STATED INCURED $188 IN TOW CHARGES AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR SUCH CHARGES. YEAR 2003: 1 O2 SENSOR REPLACED YEAR 2007: ENGINE LIGHT ON. WAS INFORMED DUE TO OXYGEN O2 SENSOR BAD AND ALSO A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD. CAR ACTS LIKE IT WILL STALL WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT. I AM VERY CONCERNED. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, ONLY SOME HONDA CIVICS WITH A PARTICULAR VIN # QUALIFY FOR REPLACEMENT OF OXYGEN/O2 SENSOR AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THEY STATED THAT MINE DID NOT (ONLY UP TO 1997 QUALIFY) AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR 1998. ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET, THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR 1998 HONDA CIVICS. I COMPLETELY LOST BY BRAKES ON MY 98 HONDA CIVIC WITH NO WARNING. I LOST MY FRONT BRAKES AND REAR BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME AND MY FOOT COMPLETELY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESISTANCE. I DOWN SHIFTED AND USED MY HAND BRAKE TO GET TO THE HONDA DEALER. THE HONDA DEALER CLEANED AND REPAIRED THE BRAKES (THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE BRAKES). THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY CAR ONLY HAS ONE MASTER CYLINDER. WHEN ONE OF THE PISTONS IN MY REAR BRAKE POPPED OUT, I LOST ALL 4 BRAKES. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO SEND THEM THE TIRE FOR AN INVESTIGATION. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, PURCHASE DATE, AND # OF CYLINDERS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 104,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE WINDOW HAS A HARD TIME OPENING AND CLOSING. SOMETIMES THE WINDOW WOULD GET STUCK WHILE IN OPERATION AND THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP WINDOW MOVING IS TO CONSTANTLY SWITCH THE WINDOW SWITCH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN OPENING AND CLOSING. WORST IS WHEN THE WINDOW WOULD SLIP OUT OF ITS SLIDING BRACKET. WHEN THIS HAPPENS,THE WINDOW IS TOTALLY STUCK AND THE DOOR HAS TO BE TAKEN APART SO THAT THE WINDOW CAN BE PUT BACK INTO ITS BRACKET. MY HONDA CIVIC 1998 ENGINE STALLED AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC, AFTER INSPECTION HE TOLD ME THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS A FLAW AND HONDA HAD A RECALL. I CHECKED WITH HONDA AND THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL # IS 97V193000. I BELIEVE MY CAR HAS THE PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
MY DAUGHTER SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 65/67 MPH AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO TAP THE BRAKES AND TURN THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON OFF, THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 90 MPH. WHEN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE SHE HAD TO DESPERATELY PRESS ON THE BRAKES USING TWO FEET TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. AFTER THE CAR WAS STOPPED, SHE PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WITH RPM'S RACING AT 7500, SHE THEN DISENGAGED THE POWER. SHE THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE 4 TIMES AND THE RPM'S WERE STILL RACING AT THE SAME LEVEL. SHE HAD TO TO BE TOWED FOR THE AMOUNT OF $325.00 FROM NJ TO PA. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. PIAZZA HONDA TOLD ME THAT SHE GOT DIRTY FUEL AND IT CAUSED A DEPOSIT ON THE THROTTLE BODY AND STRETCHED THE CABLE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT IS SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF IT WOULD RESET. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE BECAUSE AS STATED BEFORE THE CAR PRODUCED THE SAME RESPONSE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON. NO DEATHS - NO INJURIES - NO CRASH BUT SHE COULD OF BEEN KILLED IF THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC. THANK GOD THIS HAPPENED AFTER 8:20 P.M. WHEN THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC.

THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND WINDOW MECHANISM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE DOOR CAN NOT BE UNLOCKED WITH A KEY, WITH KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE OR FROM UNLOCK HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY UNLOCKED EVEN AFTER TURNING KEY IN KEY SLOT. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IS TO INSERT KEY IN KEY SLOT, TURN KEY AND PULL DOOR HANDLE AT THE SAME TIME. THE PASSENGER CAN NOT OPEN DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. WHEN OPENING OR CLOSING WINDOW, THE WINDOW WOULD GET STUCK. THE WINDOW SWITCH WOULD HAVE TO BE SWITCHED BETWEEN OPEN OR CLOSE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE WINDOW WILL CONTINUE MOVING. BOTH OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS ARE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. I HAVE A 1998 HONDA SHADOW AERO (VT1100-C3) VIN[XXX] THAT HAS DEVELOPED AN OIL GUIDE PLUG LEAK. THIS LEAK RESULTS IN OIL BEING PUMPED OUT OF THE LOWER PORTION OF THE ENGINE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE WHILE RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE. IT HAS BEEN A PROVEN INHERENT DESIGN PROBLEM IN MODEL YEARS 1998 THROUGH 2001. HONDA HAS ISSUED A WARNING AND THE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS IN THEIR SEPTEMBER 1999 ISSUE OF THE HONDA WRENCH PUBLICATION. THE DEALERSHIPS THAT I HAVE CONTACTED DO NOT CLAIM KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM OR THE ARTICLE FROM HONDA. MY UNDERSTANDING IS HONDA STILL REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. I STAY IN CONTACT WITH A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS SAME STYLE MOTORCYCLE VIA THE INTERNET AND THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. 1998 HONDA CRV, WITH ABOUT 100,000 MILAGE,ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. REPAIRED THE DISTRIBUTOR SENSOR. TOOK IT BACK FOUR MORE TIMES AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUE TO STAY ON. A WEEK LATER, TOOK IT IN TO DEALE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, VALVE #3 & 4, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THEY RECOMMENDED A NEW CYLINDER HEAD. NOTIFIED HONDA MANUFACTURER AND THEY DECIDED TO PAY HALF OF THE COST. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF MY CAR, AND HAVE THE INVOICES TO PROOF IT. I THINK HONDA KNOWS THERE IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COMPLETE REPAIR COST.
