WHILE DRIVING ENGINE OVERHEATED AND CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE WITHOUT A WARNING. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA CIVIC. THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED A RECURRING FAILURE IN WHICH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL OR BRAKE PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECOME STUCK WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. DURING THE WINTER OR WHENEVER THE FLOOR MATS WERE WET THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR MORE FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000. UPATED 10/27/10
THE VEHICLES MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING A PROBLEM AFTER RUNNING 2,255 MILES WITHIN SEVEN MONTHS. THE ENGINE RAN VERY ROUGHLY AND HESITATED ON ACCELERATION, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE SERVICE DEPATMENT STATED THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSIS AND FIX THE PROBLEM BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. LATER THEY SAID THE VALVES WERE TO TIGHT AND CONSEQUENTLY ADJUST THEM. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT START. EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE STARTED VERY ROUGHLY AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY; THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP CAME BACK ON. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND THE FUEL INJECTORS LEAKING AND REPLACED ALL FOUR-FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER THESE MALFUNCTIONS AND REPAIRS, I NOTICED A CHANGE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLES ACCELERATION POWER, AND THE IDLING WAS NOISIER. THE GAS MILEAGE SEEMED LESS AND THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON A FEW OCCASIONS. THIS COMPLAINT TO THE NHTSA CONCERNS A DEFECTIVE AND NONCONFORMING VEHICLE THAT WAS LIKELY TO CAUSED SEVERE BODILY INJURY OR DEATH IF DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD WITH DEFECTS THAT NOT ONLY JEOPARDIZED THE SAFETY OF THE CONSUMER BUT THE PUBLIC WAS ALSO AT RISK.. THAT RISK OF FUEL LEAKING FROM INJECTORS AND ENGINE MALFUNCTION (VALVES) COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, POLLUTION, AND COLLISION HAZARD. SUCH DEFECTS AND NONCONFORMITIES BREACH THE IMPLIED AND EXPRESSED WARRANTEES AND VIOLATE VARIOUS FEDERAL LAWS INTENDED TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER AND THE PUBLIC. THE EXPECTATION OF A NEW VEHICLE TO PERFORM IN A SAFE AND RELIABLE MANNER SHOULD NOT BE COMPROMISED BY DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING, AND INADEQUATE SERVICE. I AM REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM. IT WOULD BE A LIFE SAVING SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC WHO IS UNSUSPECTING THAT A NEW, WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WOULD RUN FOR LESS THAN 2,300 MILES AND HAVE DANGEROUS DEFECTS APPEAR. THE PATTERN OF NEGLECT THAT BEGUN WITH THE MANUFACTURE, PERSISTED WITH THE SALE AND THE SERVICE OF THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALER. THIS LACK OF DUE CARE COULD GET SOMEBODY KILLED. *AK
MY CAR HAS A RECALL ON IT THAT HASN'T BEEN FIXED
POWER LOCKS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. AS LONG AS THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION THE DOORS WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO LOCK. THEY FLICKERED FROM UNLOCKED TO LOCKED. CONSUMER HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO GET OUT OF VEHICLE. DEALER SAID DRIVER'S SIDE LOCKING UNIT NEED TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEM STILL PRESENT AFTER REPLACEMENT. *AK *ML
WHILE DRIVING ON RURAL ROAD VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL DUE TO SLIPPERY ROADS, HITTING A FENCE HEAD-ON, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER.*AK *YH
UNEVEN HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHTTIME, THE RIGHT SHINES OUT FARTHER THAN LEFT, IT BECOMES TOTALLY DARK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AT THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE ON A SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY, WHEN YOU TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS THERE IS FOUR SHADES OF BRIGHT LIGHT WHEN TRAFFIC IS COMING THE OPPOSITE WAY. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, WHY DOES THE HAGERSTOWN HONDA REFUSE TO REPLACE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS TO GETTING THIS FIXED????*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY COME ON. VEHICLE BEEN IN/OUT OF DEALER SHOP, AND PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. *AK
EVERY TIME ENGINE IS TURNED OFF VERY LOUD CLANGING AND BANGING NOISES COME FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER STATED THAT THE NOISES CAME FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER COOLING DOWN AND CONTRACTING, WHICH WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. HOW CAN A 2 MONTHS OLD RADIATOR BE SO FRAGILE? HONDA DENIED IT WAS A DEFECT BY MANUFACTURER WHICH I HAVE TO END UP PAYING $511.65 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF RADIATOR. I FEEL LIKE BEING CHEATED AND ROBBED. *AK
I BOUGHT A HONDA CIVIC 2000 AND THE VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR FLAW IN ITS CAR SEATS. IT PRODUCES HIGH ELECTRICITY SHOCKS WHEN YOU TOUCH THE DOORS (METAL). I THINK THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND A POTENTIAL LAWSUIT FOR HONDA IF SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN AN EXPLOSION. THIS IS AN EVERYDAY ISSUE AND MY FAMILY IS EVEN AFRAID TO GET IN THE CAR. *AK
I HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 5 CD PLAYERS IN STALLED, STILL NO WORKING RADIO! I HAVE ALSO BEEN SHOCKED SEVERAL TIMES AND MY CAR WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE WHEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A LIGHT WEIGHT CAR! *AK
WHEN THE CAR WAS 2 WEEKS OLD, WE RETURNED FROM A DRIVE AND FOUND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF, EVEN WITH THE IGNITION IN THE "OFF" POSITION AND THE KEY REMOVED. THE ENGINE SOUNDED AS THOUGH IT WAS TRYING TO START ITSELF, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL RUNNING. I PUT THE KEY BACK IN AND TURNED IT TO THE "ON" POSITION, AT WHICH POINT THE UNUSUAL NOISE DISAPPEARED, AND THE CAR SEEMED TO IDLE NORMALLY. I TURNED IT OFF AGAIN, AND THE NOISE RETURNED AS THE CAR KEPT RUNNING. I TURNED THE KEY ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE FINALLY STOPPED. AS I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT A FIRE WAS BURNING ON THE STARTER AND THE NEARBY RUBBER HOSES. I UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO BLOW OUT THE FLAMES, WHICH WE PUT OUT USING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM OUR APARTMENT BUILDING, WHICH WE WERE PARKED IN FRONT OF. ALL DAMAGED PARTS WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ALTHOUGH THERE IS STILL A BURNT SMELL EVIDENT AFTER DRIVING THE CAR. I INFORMED HONDA OF THE PROBLEM THROUGH THEIR "NEW OWNER SURVEY" AND A LETTER TO THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS ZONE OFFICE. *AK
TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE OF CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD DEVELOPED A BUBBLE. FIRESTONE DEALER REPLACED TIRE AT NO CHARGE AND TOLD ME THAT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. I AM NOW REPORTING THIS IN LIGHT OF THE OTHER FIRESTONE RECALLS AND PROBLEMS, THOUGH I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY ARE RELATED. (DOT NUMBER: W27JMNB TIRESIZE: P185/65R14)

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO PUT NHTSA INTO ACTION. MFG. UNABLE TO REPAIR VEH. MFG. DEALERSHIP DAMAGED CAR ATTEMPTING TO PRY ENG AND SUSPENSION TO ALIGN STEERING. MFG. DESIGN FLAW AFFECTING ALL CIVIC MODELS. POOR ALIGNMENT RUINED 3RD SET TIRES BEFORE 20K MILES ON VEHICLE. VEH AVAIL FOR TEST DRIVE TO NHTSA OFFICIALS. PLS RESPOND, URGENT/SERIOUS PROBLEM.
RIGHT PULL & WANDERING EXPERIENCED AT FREEWAY SPEEDS SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE OCT. 1999. RETURNED FOR ALIGNMENT SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. ALIGNMENT DONE, STILL SLIGHT RIGHT PULL AND DEFINITE WANDERING STILL PRESENT. RETURNED TODAY FOR RECHECK. MECHANIC TEST DROVE WITH ME IN CAR. HE ACKNOWLEDGES WANDERING/WASHBOARDING, BUT CLAIMS HE DOESN'T FEEL IT IS ABNORMAL. ANOTHER MECHANIC TOOK ME OUT FOR A DRIVE TO DETERMINE SOURCE OF PROBLEM, ME OR THE CAR. MECHANIC DETERMINED UNUSUAL WASHBOARDING. STATES WILL CONTACT HONDA TECH. FOR ASSISTANCE WITH PROBLEM. AFTER I LEFT, SVC. WRITER AND SECOND MECHANIC TOOK ANOTHER CIVIC FOR TEST DRIVE. EXPERIENCED SAME PROBLEM WITH HAVING TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT STEERING TO KEEP VEHICLE IN ITS OWN LANE. CALLED ME JUST BEFORE 5PM P.S.T. TO ASK ME WHAT I WOULD DO IF THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CIVIC'S SINCE ANOTHER NEW CAR ON THE LOT DROVE THE SAME WAY. I RESPONDED STATING I SAW NOTHING IN THE PURCHASE CONTRACTS THAT WARNED ME OF A "STEERING CHARACTERISTIC" THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH, NOR DID I KNOW HONDA MADE THEIR CARS WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO HAVE THE CASTER OR CAMBER ADJUSTMENTS CORRECTED. IF I KNEW THIS CAR WAS GOING TO HANDLE AS POORLY ON THE FREEWAY AS IT DOES, I WOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED IT. THE SPECIFICATIONS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL CANNOT POSSIBLY BE MET DUE TO THE LACK OF FORESIGHT BY HONDA. I HAVE A COPY OF THE ALIGNMENT SETTINGS BEFORE THE FIRST ALIGNMENT WAS INITIATED AS WELL AS THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST ALIGNMENT, WHICH ARE UNACCEPTABLE BASED ON THE UNSTABLE, UNPREDICTABLE STEERING AND HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS EXHIBITED BY THIS "NEW" CAR. IF HONDA CAN NOT FIX THIS CAR CORRECTLY SO AS NOT TO SHORTEN THE LIFE OF THE TIRES OR PUT UNDUE STRESS ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION, REAR SUSPENSION, AND RELATED WHEEL BEARINGS, THEN THEY CAN JUST TAKE THIS CAR BACK AND REIMBURSE ME FOR MY PURCHASE. I HAVE ALREADY WASTED 3 HOURS BUYING THIS CAR AND OVER 5 HOURS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DEALING WITH THE CURRENT PROBLEM. *

VEHICLE WAS IN AN HEAD-ON COLLISION AT 35 MPH, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HONDA WAS CONTACTED. *AK
THE LCD DISPLAY IN THE CD RADIO IS UNREADABLE UNDER MOST ALL LIGHTING CONDITIONS, BUTTON LABELS ARE SO SMALL THEY CAN'T BE READ. THIS CREATES A SIGNIFIGANT POTENTENTIAL HAZARD IN OPERATING IT. SINCE IT IS A PART OF THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMS IT IS AN ISSUE FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION VS A CONSUMER ELECTRONICS ISSUE, BUT IT IS SOMEWHAT BOTH. FACTORY OEM RADIOS HAVE MUCH BETTER DISPLAY, BUT ARE THEY REQUIRED TO, BUT AFTERMARKET SEEM TO HAVE NO STANDARDS AND I THINK THEY SHOULD. DO THEY. THE UNIT I HAVE IS A CLARION MODEL RDB365D. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED AND WHILE GOING UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL THE CONSUMER TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF. *SLC
IS THERE A LAW/REGULATION ON THE ACCEPTABLE SEAT HEIGHT OF A MOTORCYCLE? MY BIKE SEAT IS APPROX 38" OFF OF THE GROUND. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE HEIGHT WAS ADJUSTABLE AND IN FACT IT IS NOT. I REALLY FEEL AS THOUGH THE EXTREME SEAT HEIGHT IS A HAZARD WHEN RIDING THE BIKE ON THE STREET. I CAN ONLY TOUCH THE GROUND WITH MY TIP TOES. HOW IS IT THAT THEY CAN SELL ME A BIKE THAT IS WAY TO TALL FOR ME TO RIDE SAFELY? *AK
THE CAR IS EITHER DIFFICULT TO START OR STARTS AND DIES WHEN THE LEVEL IN THE FUEL TANK IS NEAR OR BELOW THE 1/4 TANK MARK. THIS PROBLEM IS PREVALENT IN THE 1999 AND 2000 CIVICS, AND HONDA IS AWARE OF IT. THEY CLAIM TO HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM, BUT I COULD NOT FIND IT ON YOUR WEBSITE. HONDA REFUSES TO FIX IT.THIS IS A SECURITY ISSUE FOR ME. I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER, SO THAT SHE WOULD HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. SHE IS IN LAW SCHOOL, AND HAS TO SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF TIME IN THE LIBRARY, LATE AT NIGHT. SHE PARKS IN THE PARKING DECKS AND BY THE TIME SHE LEAVES, HERS IS ONE OF THE FEW CARS LEFT. IT CONCERNS ME THAT SHE MIGHT BE PURSUED BY SOMEONE, REACH HER CAR AHEAD OF HIM, AND THEN THE CAR FAILS. WITH THE POPULATION OF CIVICS OUT THERE WITH YOUNG PEOPLE DRIVING, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TO SOMEONE. WE HAVE A RIGHT TO EXPECT THAT OUR KIDS ARE SAFE WHEN WE GO TO THE EXPENSE OF BUYING THEM A NEW CAR. I BELIEVE THAT MANY PARENTS PAY THE EXTRA MONEY REQUIRED TO BUY A HONDA, BECAUSE OF THE SUPPOSED QUALITY OF THE VEHICLES. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY THAT THEIR CARS WON'T START WHEN THEY ARE IN DANGER.*AK

WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER WILL JUMP UP ONE INCH EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS SLOWING DOWN. THERE IS A METALLIC CLACKING OR KNOCKING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARMED UP IN GEAR AT IDLE WITH THE BRAKE ON. *TT
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN BRAKING, TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT DOWN ON A SLIGHT TO MODERATE INCLINE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK HALF OF THE TIME THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS WITHOUT WARNING AT UP TO 55 MPH UNDER LIGHT TO MODERATE BRAKING. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER SMELLED GAS FUMES. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
