CAR SHUTS DOWN- EGINE DIES AND ALL ELECTRICAL. THIS HAPPENS WHILE CAR IS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I SEE THERE WAS/IS A RECALL FROM HONDA ON THIS ISSUE. TRYING TO DETERMINE IF STILL IN EFFECT. BOUGHT CAR FROM ORIGINAL OWNER
CAR IS SLUGGISH UP HILLS AND IS NOW STALLING AROUND TURNS WITH POWER STEERING GOING OFF. CAR IS A 5SPEED AND WHEN PUT ON GAS IT RESTARTS. MECHANIC REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND CRANK SENSOR BUT PROBLEM GOT WORSE. WONDERING IF IGNITION SWITCH COULD BE ISSUE AS I SEE IT WAS AN ISSUE ON OTHER CIVIC MODELS. MECHANIC BOTH AT HONDA AND OUR PERSONAL COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG AND PROBLEM KEEPS COMING UP DESPITE SUPPOSED FIXING. WE'VE SPENT OVER $1,000 ALREADY TRYING TO FIX IT.

I WOULD LIKE HONDA TO FIX, BUT THEY TELL ME MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BUT MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR ARE,NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V120000, AND MY CAR HAS THE SYMPTOMS OF AN IGNITION PROBLEM. ALSO THE IGNITION SWITCH IS ROUGH AND SOMETIMES THE KEY JAMS. NOTE THAT IT COULD BE THAT ITS PAST 15 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE WENT OUT, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTICE. I FEEL THEY ARE LIABLE FOR THIS REPAIR, I NEVER GOT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL AND HOPE FOR A REIMBURSEMENT AS WAS SUGGESTED BY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO COMPEL THEM TO FIX IT, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 02/25/18 EXITING THE FREEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED BILL PEARCE HONDA (780 KIETZKE LANE, RENO, NEVADA 89502; 775-789-7999) WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.

PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. MECHANIC (AAA-LISTED) DIAGNOSED MASTER WINDOW SWITCH, INSTALLED NEW OEM MASTER WINDOW SWITCH. THIS WEEK, SEPT. 2014, LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THE REPAIR, THE SAME WINDOW IS STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION. I AM REPORTING B/C 5 HOURS RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE INDICATES THE PROBLEM TO BE PERVASIVE, ONGOING AND DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE. REPAIRS CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE, CAUSING SOME OWNERS TO JUST LEAVE THE WINDOW CLOSED. I CAN FIND NO RECALLS FROM HONDA. DURING THE DAY THE INSIDE OF MY CAR HAD A BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. LATER THAT NIGHT, MY HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT WORK. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE PASSING BEAMS WEDGED ON. TODAY I TOOK THE HEADLIGHT/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OFF OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ASSEMBLY HAD STARTED TO MELT AND THE HARNESS CONNECTOR THAT WAS ATTACHED TO IT IS SINGED! I BOUGHT A USED 2000 HONDA CIVIC DX THAT WOULD SPUTTER VERY QUICKLY SPORADICALLY. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AS I DROVE IT MORE. NOW IT WILL JUST SHUT DOWN AND HAVE TO SIT BEFORE IT WILL START AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY EVENING, SEPTEMBER 16, 2005, AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM EST IN MY 2000 HONDA CIVIC LX 4DR SEDAN. I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP STREET, AND WAS ABOUT TO ACCELERATE AND MAKE A RIGHT TURN. I STARTED MOVING AND THEN MY CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, AND THEN RESTART IT. HOWEVER, FROM THAT POINT FORWARD, I FOUND AS I WOULD BE COMING TO A STOP AND IDLING, THAT THE CAR WOULD WANT TO GO COMPLETELY DEAD AND STALL ON ME. I TOOK MY CAR TO OUR DEALERSHIP, AUTOSPORT HONDA, IN BRIDGEWATER, NJ, AND HAD THEM TAKE A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS IN NEED OF A TUNE UP, AND THAT THE WIRES LEADING FROM THE IGNITION TO THE ENGINE WERE DETERIORATING. I DECIDED TO LOOK MY VIN NUMBER UP TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS. I FOUND, BASED ON THE HONDA CIVIC LX 4DR SEDANS, THAT THERE WAS A RECALL MAY 16, 2002 (CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V120000) FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPONENT, MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE RECALL STATES "ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED." THE RECALL FURTHER STATES THAT "WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." I BROUGHT THIS TO MY DEALERSHIPS ATTENTION, AND HE TOLD ME HE ALREADY RAN MY VIN NUMBER [XXX], AND THAT IT WAS NOT REGISTERED UNDER THE RECALL. I ASKED HIM IF THIS WAS THE SAME TYPE OF COMPONENT PROBLEM AS IN THE RECALL AND HE SAID YES. HE SAID IT IS MORE COMMON IN STICK-SHIFT HONDAS THEN AUTOMATICS. I AM BRINGING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION BECAUSE THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED IN MAY 2002, EXCEPT UNDER DIFFERENT VIN NUMBERS.
