AT 13000 MILES MY REAR TIRES ON A 4 MONTH OLD CAR WERE SO WORN , (FLAT SPOTS) THAT IN THE NEAR FUTURE I FEEL THEY WOULD BE A FUTURE ROAD HAZARD POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. IN MY LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH ON INTERNET THIS IS A ON GOING PROBLEM FOR YEARS. DEALER REPLACED MY BACK TIRES AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO DIFFERENT REPAIR,TIRE SHOPS. EVEN WHEN SOME SHOPS PUT IT IN WRITING THAT EXCESSIVE WEAR WAS DUE TO MECHANICAL FAILURE THEY STILL SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH CAR. I HAVE A FEELING I'LL BE BACK TO DEALER BEFORE 5000 MI MORE FOR SAME THING. THIS IS TRULY AND UNSAFE SITUATION FOR PEOPLE WHEN IF THEY LISTEN TO DEALER AND THEY TELL THEM NOTHINGS WRONG WHEN CLEARLY SOMETHING IS CAUSING THE UNEVEN WEAR. *TR
PREMATURE REAR TIRE WEAR. *TR
BOTH SUN VISORS ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN SWING DOWN SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS ABRUPT MALFUNCTION BLOCKS VIEW OF BOTH THE ROAD AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, CREATING AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS DRIVING SITUATION. WHEN THEY SWING DOWN, EFFORTS TO RETURN THEM TO THE ?UP? (NEVER HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED) POSITION ARE COMPLETELY USELESS. BOTH SWING DOWN AGAIN AND REFUSE TO REMAIN UP AND OUT OF THE WAY. THE VISORS ARE MADE UP OF SEVERAL PLASTIC PANELS. AT LEAST ONE OF THE PANELS IN EACH VISOR SEEMS TO HAVE WARPED DUE TO NORMAL SUMMER TEMPERATURES. IT APPEARS THAT DEFORMATION IS WHAT PREVENTS THE VISOR FROM WORKING NORMALLY. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
SMALL PEBBLE HIT CONDENSER ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC WHILE DRIVING UNBEKNOWNST TO ME. THE DEALER SAYS IT HAS CAUSED A SMALL HOLE IN CONDENSER AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. ON EXAMINATION DAMAGE IS NOT READILY NOTICEABLE. THE CAR IS ONLY 3 MOS. OLD. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, AND HAVE NOTED THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, SO IT QUITE COMMON. I THINK HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT, AND HAVE IT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
SUN VISORS ON 2008 HONDA CIVIC EXL MALFUNCTION. WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR- THE SUN VISORS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. SEEMED TO BE CAUSED BY INTERIOR HEAT IN THE VEHICLE. THEY (BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT) FINALLY FAILED TO WHERE ONCE THEY WERE IN THE DOWN POSITION YOU COULD NOT PUTT THEM BACK IN THE STOW POSITION WITH OUT USING TWO HANDS - NEED NOT SAY MUCH ABOUT THE SAFETY HAZARD HERE AND WITH FOLLOWING. ALSO, FROM STOW POSITION THEY KEEP FALLING DOWN ON THEIR OWN ACCORD. CONTACTED THE DEALER - SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY THEY REPLACED THEM. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW PROBABLY CAUSED BY EXPANDING PLASTIC PARTS DUE TO HEAT. TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE NEW REPLACEMENT WOULD PROBABLY DO THE SAME THING WITH TIME AND HONDA CORP SHOULD BE NOTIFIED. NOT SURE THEY NOTIFIED HONDA OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM OR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE. I LEFT THE DEALER AND IMMEDIATELY HEARD A VERY LOUD ROARING SOUND FROM MY TIRES. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TIRES WERE NOT WEARING EVENING. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 12,000 MILES. I WAS LATER TOLD THAT OTHER HONDA CIVICS HAD A CONTROL ARM PROBLEM WHICH CAUSED THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SERVICE BULLETIN. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE IS DISPLAYING THE VERY SAME SYMPTOMS. *TR
EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN EX-L I HAVE HAD A VIBRATION, TIRE CUPPING AND SEVER NOISE IN THE REAR END SUSPENSION AND WHEELS. HONDA CLAIMS IT IS BECAUSE OF IMPROPER TIRE ROTATION INTERVALS. TIRE CUPPING IS NOT DUE TO IMPROPER TIRE ROTATION. IT IS DUE TO LACK OF PROPER SHOCK ABSORBING. I HAVE HAD MY CIVIC BACK FOR THIS PROBLEM EVERY 10,000 MILES WITH NO SOLUTION FROM HONDA. AT 26000 MILES I REPLACED THE REAR TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE BADLY CUPPED. NOW MY NEW TIRES ARE CUPPED AS WELL. AFTER REPEATED WHEEL BALANCING, ALIGNMENTS AND MANY ATTEMPTS TO HAVE HONDA FIX IT I REPLACED THE REAR SHOCKS WITH HEAVY DUTY SHOCK TO NO AVAIL. THE LAST CAR I OWNED THAT SHOWED SIGNS OF REAR TIRE CUPPING WAS MY 1970 FIAT 850 RACER. I REPLACED THE REAR PRODUCTION SHOCKS WITH KONI ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS AND THE CUPPING CEASED. AGAIN HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM AND NEEDS A REMEDY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2008, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HER SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LATCH. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, SHE WAS ABLE TO FASTEN THE SEAT BELT, BUT THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT KEPT ILLUMINATING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE WARNING CHIME SOUNDED AND THEN STOPPED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. SHE HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,250 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,198.
AT 10,000 MILES MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC DEVELOPED LOUD SQUEALING IN THE FRONT BRAKES. THEY WOULD MAKE THIS NOISE AT ANY SPEED. AFTER MUCH BACK AND FORTH WITH NEAREST DEALERSHIP THEY FINALLY REPLACED THEM FOR FREE. THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS DIRT IN THEM, OR, ALTERNATIVELY, I RODE THE BRAKES TOO HARD. NEITHER WAS THE CASE. ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER THE BRAKES SQUEALED SO LOUD PEOPLE BLOCKS AWAY STOPPED TO LOOK FOR HUNDREDS OF MILES ON A TRIP HOME AFTER A HOLIDAY VISIT. THAT STOPPED AFTER THE CAR GARAGED OVERNIGHT. CALLED HONDA CORPORATE TO REPORT PROBLEM, WAS TREATED BADLY, ALL MY FAULT, WHAT COULD THEY DO? THEY ACTUALLY ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED THEM TO DO LIKE THEY COULDN'T SEE THAT MAYBE THEY SHOULD INVESTIGATE IT AS A PROBLEM! NOW I SEE ONLINE THAT 2008 HONDA ACCORDS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. FEEL THAT ANYTHING THAT CAUSES BRAKES TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. SO FAR THE REPLACEMENT PADS HAVE HELD UP. WE HAD OUR LOCAL MECHANIC CHECK THEM OUT AFTER THAT SCREECHING LONG TRIP AND HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG, NO WEAR, CALIPERS NOT STUCK, ETC. *TR
WHEN I PURCHASES THE CAR IN 2008, EVEN DURING THE TEST DRIVE, THE CAR SEEMED EXCESSIVELY LOUD BUT THE SALESMAN STATED THAT IT WAS JUST THE BAD ROAD WE WERE ON. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THE SOUND JUST GOT WORSE, TO THE POINT THAT I COULD NOT EVEN HEAR PEOPLE WHILE USING MY CELL PHONE. I HAD TO PURCHASE 3 SETS OF TIRES IN ADDITION TO THE ORIGINAL SET. EACH TIME, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE TIRES WERE TO THE POINT OF BEING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. AGAIN,THE MECHANIC IS STATING THAT MY TIRES ARE TO A VERY DANGEROUS POINT AND I NEED NEW ONES. THIS WILL BE 5 SETS OF TIRES IN 5 YEARS. *TR
DEFECTIVE SUN VISOR: SPLITS OPEN & WON'T HOLD UP, OBSTRUCT VIEW. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES: RIGHT SIDE 09/08/08, LEFT SIDE 09/29/08, RIGHT SIDE 10/07/11, LEFT SIDE 06/12/12. HONDA KEEPS REPLACING IT WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE DESIGN. PLEASE READ OTHER FORUMS AND SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY FRUSTRATING ISSUE. WHEN IT IS BROKEN, THERE'S NO WAY TO HOLD IT UP BUT WITH YOUR HAND. I HAVE OWNED A BRAND-NEW '08 HONDA CIVIC LX FOUR-DOOR SEDAN, MT FOR APPROXIMATELY 4-5 WEEKS. I DRIVE MY CAR 5 DAYS A WEEK, ROUNDTRIP EACH DAY 140 MILES. ABOUT 3 WEEKS IN, I SUFFERED EXCRUCIATING NECK/SHOULDERS/BACK PAIN. I ADJUSTED THE SEAT ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT WAYS AND MOVED THE HEADREST UP AND DOWN, TO NO AVAIL. FINALLY, I RIPPED THE HEADREST COMPLETELY OUT AND THEN I DROVE PAIN FREE FOR ABOUT A WEEK. NOW, THE PAIN IS BACK, EVEN THOUGH THE HEADREST IS STILL FACING BACKWARD. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP BUT HAVEN'T HEARD BACK YET ABOUT A SOLUTION. I'M STILL IN SEVERE NECK PAIN, AND I CURRENTLY HAVE NO WHIPLASH PROTECTION, SHOULD I CRASH, BECAUSE THE HEAD REST IS TILTED TOO FAR BACK. THE FORWARD-JUTTING HEADRESTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A WHIPLASH SAFETY FEATURE, BUT WHAT GOOD IS IT IF I REMOVE IT BECAUSE I CAN'T TOLERATE THE PAIN I'M IN EVERY DAY? I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE SUN VISOR PASSENGER SIDE HAS CRACKED AND FAILED. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AT HONDA, BUT THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL OR REPLACE IT FOR FREE. *TR
PROBLEM WITH CRUISE CONTROL. WITH CRUISE ON CAR HAS A TENDENCY TO SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN AND SPEED UP AGAIN. DOES NOT MAINTAIN SET SPEED BUT WILL READ SET SPEED. IT HAS A HABIT OF SPEEDING UP ON TURNS AND STRAIGHT A WAYS. MUST USE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN RESET SPEED. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW CAR HONDA CIVIC HYBRID 2008 AND AT 6000 MILES HAD TO HAVE ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED DUE TO CUPPING. HONDA REALIGNED ALL FOUR AND PAID FOR TIRES. AFTER ANOTHER 6000 MILES, I HAD ALL FOUR TIRES WORN DOWN AGAIN. THIS TIME I DID NOT HEAR FROM HONDA AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT. DRIVERS SUN VISOR ON 2008 CIVIC EX COUPE SUDDENLY SWINGS DOWN CREATING HAZARD ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THIS VISOR IS USELESS AND REFUSE TO REMAIN UP. FRONT DRIVER WINDOW CAME OUT OF PLASTIC WINDOW CHANNEL (SEAL) DURING CLOSING AND WOULD NOT SEAL PROPERLY. TEMPORARY FIX: COULD MANUALLY PUSH/PULL WINDOW INTO CHANNEL DURING CLOSING, BUT WATCH YOUR FINGERS! OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 6000KM. I BELIEVE ROOT CAUSE WAS FAULTY SWITCH WHICH DIDN'T PROVIDE SIGNAL TO WINDOW MOTOR TO STOP IF WINDOW CLOSED. AFTER WINDOW CLOSED, IF BUTTON ACTIVATED, COULD HEAR MOTOR STILL PUSHING WINDOW GLASS UP. EVENTUALLY, THIS WOULD CAUSE WINDOW GLASS TO DAMAGE CHANNEL (SEAL) DEALER REPLACED WINDOW REGULATOR,SEAL AND GLASS UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE TIRE AREA. THE NOISE BECAME AUDIBLE WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE TIRES BE ROTATED. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED, BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE STILL CONTINUED. THE TIRES REQUIRED CONSTANT ROTATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH DEFECTIVE TIRES, BUT POSSIBLY A MALFUNCTION WITH THE VEHICLE'S SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL, AS A RESULT OF REAR SUSPENSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WITHIN THE ALIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS AND THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I BOUGHT MY HONDA CIVIC EXL IN MARCH OF 2008. AFTER 9 MONTHS (APPROX 18 K MILES) OF USE I AM FINDING I HAVE TO REPLACE MY TIRES DUE TO UNUSUAL WEAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO A TIRE DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY EXCEPT DEFECTS FOR OEM TIRES ON THIS CAR AND DIRECTED ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I HAD THE TIRE PLACE ROTATE AND REBALANCE THE TIRES ' THE PROBLEM WORSENED TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE SEVERELY VIBRATED (LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS)AND MADE NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND WHO SAID THE TIRES IN QUESTION WERE WORN AND HAD FLAT PLACES PROBABLY DUE TO SKIDDING (THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN 'SKIDDED') AND THAT IF I HAD ISSUES WITH THE TIRES I SHOULD GO TO BRIDGESTONE (THE OEM FOR EL400). I WENT TO FIRESTONE (BRIDGESTONE DEALER) AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CAR CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION AND GETTING NOWHERE CONVINCED THEM TO CHECK ALIGNMENT AND SUSPENSION. THEY DID AND FOUND THE REAR TIRE ALIGNMENT OFF. THEY ALIGNED THE REAR TIRES (THE FRONT TIRE ALIGNMENT HAD NO ISSUES) AND SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH NO OBLIGATION TO REPLACE THE WORN/DEFECTIVE TIRES. I REPLACED THE TIRES AT MY OWN EXPENSE TO AVOID POTENTIAL HAZARD OF KEEPING THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND FEARFUL FOR SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND OTHERS. NEW CAR ' NEW TIRES IN 9 MONTHS ' THIS AIN'T RIGHT. I WAS SHOCKED AT THE FACT THAT THE OEM TIRES HAD NO MILEAGE WARRANTY AND WERE ONLY WARRANTED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER FOR DEFECTS. I WAS ALSO CONCERNED WHY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT PROVIDE SUCH INFORMATION TO THE CONSUMER AT THE TIME OF SALE. I HAVE GRAVE CONCERN THAT SOME FOLKS WHO CANNOT AFFORD NEW TIRES AFTER 9 MONTHS OR SOONER WILL CONTINUE TO USE AND DRIVE THEIR CAR IN THIS UNSAFE CONDITION. AFTER RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM EXISTED ON 06 AND 07 HONDA'S ' HONDA PUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN SO STATING WITH A REPAIR OFFER. ALSO FOUND OUT OTHERS WITH 2008 CIVICS ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2008 (CAR WAS 3 MONTHS OLD) AND WRITTEN OFF AS TOTALED BY STATE FARM AND I NEVER SAW IT AGAIN. SO CAN NOT VERY WELL DO THE AIR BAG RECALL. AND BY THE WAY, THE AIR BAGS WORKED PERFECTLY. I WALKED AWAY AND BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE.
THE HUSH PANEL UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS STARTED TO DROOP, CAUSING IT TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE TOP OF MY SHOE WHEN I MOVE MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE HUSH PANEL WAS NOT DESIGNED WITH ENOUGH RETAINING CLIPS TO AVOID THIS INTERFERENCE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS SIMILAR TO A LOUD SMACKING SOUND. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY WOULD NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,000.
THERE HAS BEEN NO WRECK OR FIRE---THIS IS A COMPLAINT FOR YOUR TSB COMPILATIONS....WE HAVE AN 08 CIVIC LX: THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ROUGHLY, AND WITH DELAYS. SLOWING DOWN AND THEN RE ACCELERATING LIGHTLY CAUSES A DELAY----AS IF THE TRANSMISSION/CONTROL MODULE CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH GEAR TO GET INTO--- AND THEN A ROUGH ENGAGEMENT. FROM D TO REVERSE, THERE IS A HARDER ENGAGEMENT THAN SHOULD BE. IT'S AS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL MODULE OR THE TORQUE CONVERTER. MY DEALER SAYS ALL THESE THINGS ARE NORMAL IN A CIVIC AUTO TRANSMISSION. WE HAVE AN 07 ACCORD EXL AND IT HAS NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS, NOR DID ANY OTHER VEHICLES I'VE HAD IN THE PAST WITH A.T. IT SEEMS THERE SHOULD BE SOME CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING OR SOFTWARE PATCH FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. ALSO, AS A SAFETY PROBLEM, IT IS HARDER TO SEE OUT OF THIS WINDSHIELD DURING RAIN, ESP. AT NIGHT, THAN ANY CAR I'VE DRIVEN. POSSIBLY THE EXTREME SLANT OF THE GLASS? AS A SAFETY PROBLEM, AS WELL, THE BRAKES HAVE A SOFT PEDAL, AS WELL, AND REQUIRE MORE FORCE THAN OUR ACCORD(MUCH MUCH MORE)OR THAN ANY CAR I AM USED TO, EXCEPT ONE WITH AIR IN THE LINES....DEALER SAYS THIS SOFT PEDAL IS NORMAL, AS WELL. *TR
BOTH REAR CONTROL ARMS ON 2008 HONDA CIVIC CAUSING CUPPING ON INSIDE OF REAR TIRES.
APPARENTLY A ROCK HIT MY A/C CONDENSER AFTER OWNING MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. IT CREATED A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER AND NOW THE A/C DOESN'T WORK. THE DEALER ORDERED THE SECOND BEARING FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,700. THE PAINT ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC SI A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS FROM ROCKS. THERE ARE PAINT CHIPS ON THE CAR WHERE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR A ROCK TO HIT IT. MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC RAN OVER A PIECE OF TIRE FROM A TRUCK. IT PASSED UNDER THE CAR AND BENT THE REAR MOST BRACKET HOLDING THE HANDBRAKE CABLE. I BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO A NASTY ACCIDENT IF THE REAR WHEEL BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I THINK THE DESIGN CHANGE REQUIRED WOULD BE SIMPLE.
