ENGINE BLOCK HONDA CIVIC 2008 147000 MILES BEGAN LEAKING COOLANT AFTER DRIVING ON CITY STREET
MY USED 2008 HONDA CIVIC WAS OVERHEATING AND I DROPPED IT OFF AT MY GARAGE FOR EVALUATION. ON 2/14/2019, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED NORTH AMERICAN HONDA, INC. AND REQUESTED THEY REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY REFUSED AS THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND SALVAGED. I HAD NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH 2006-2009 CIVIC ENGINES AND THE WARRANTY. HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED BY HONDA, WHEN MY CAR WAS TOTALED IN 2014 BECAUSE OF A SEVERE HAIL STORM, I WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED THE $10,000 FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT CAR. SINCE MY CAR IN 2014 WAS SIX YEARS OLD, I THOUGHT THAT ALL WARRANTIES HAD EXPIRED LONG AGO AND SALVAGING THE CAR APPEARED TO BE A GOOD DEAL. I GOT $10K AND HAD A MECHANICALLY AND OPERATIONALLY SOUND VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE. RESEARCH HAS SINCE SHOWN THAT HUNDREDS OF CIVIC OWNERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED AND HONDA ROUTINELY STRICTLY ENFORCES THE WARRANTY. FOR FOUR YEARS HONDA WAS SELLING A DEFECTIVE CAR AND DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO HIDE FROM THE PUBLIC. MANY OWNERS RECOUNTED THE CAR JUST SHUTTING DOWN ON THEM. I OFTEN DROVE IN 70MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONES ON THE PA TURNPIKE IN HEAVY COMMUTER TRAFFIC. HAD MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN SUDDENLY THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT POSSIBILITY THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY NHTSA DID NOT FORCE HONDA TO ISSUE A PROVISIONAL RECALL. ALSO, HONDA SHOULD HAVE ISSUED AN UNLIMITED WARRANTY INSTEAD OF RESTRICTING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. IT APPEARS TO BE A CASE OF UNFAIR AND DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICE AT BEST AND OUTRIGHT FRAUD AT THE WORST.
HONDA NEEDS TO BE VERY CONSIDERATE AND MAKE SOME TYPE OF EXCEPTION TOWARDS WHAT PEOPE GO THROUGH WHEN THEY SELL CAR THAT HAVE A PROBLEM. I BOUGHT MY CAR BACK IN OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR AND I HAVE HAD SOME ISSUE EVERY SINCE. BACK IN FEBURWRY OF THIS I NOTICED THAT I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR STARTED SMOKING I LET IT COOL DOWN AND MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP WHO INITIALLY DIAGONOSED IT AS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET THEY TOLD ME IT WOUL BE $1500 TO FIX. I TOOK IT A HONDA REPIAR SHOP WHO DID SEVERAL TEST AND CAME TO THE FINAL CONCLUSION THAT BLOCK IS LEAKING. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT HONDA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MOST RELAIBLE CAR. PLEASE TRY TO MAKE SOME TYPE OF EXCEPTION THIS IS RIDICULIOUS.
DRIVER SEAT: BROKEN WELDS ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT FRONT OF THE SEAT DUE TO USE OF POOR MATERIAL (VERY THIN METAL TUBES BROKE). THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE SEAT LIFT SYSTEM IS ATTACHED TO THIS TUBE AND THE SEAT PULLED TO THE LEFT ABRUPTLY AND STARTLES YOU. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THAT IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT. THEN AFTER THIS OCCURS THE SEAT IS NO LONGER FULLY FUNCTIONAL. YOU HAVE TO DRIVE WITH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN BUT THE SEAT STILL MOVES DUE TO THE BROKEN TUBE. HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THIS OR SUPPLY A KIT TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE.
WAS THE PROUD OWNER OF A HONDA CIVIC(2008) UNTIL RECENTLY. IN JANUARY 2019, MY HONDA UNEXPECTEDLY STARTED OVERHEATING WHEN I WAS WAITING IN LINE IN MCDONALDS. THE OVERHEATING OCCURED VERY FAST AND I I QUICKLY PULLED OVER AND TOWED THE VEHICLE TO NEAREST HONDA DEALER (HONDA OF NANUET). I LEARNED THE NEXT DAY THAT THE CAR HAD SUFFERED A ENGINE COOLANT LEAK WHICH HAD THE MADE THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK (HTTPS://HONDA.OEMDTC.COM/340/WARRANTY-EXTENSION-ENGINE-BLOCK-2006-2009-HONDA-CIVIC) WHICH IS A KNOWN DEFECT ON 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS. MY CARS SITUATION IS SAD BECAUSE IT IS OVER THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY BUT HAS VERY LOW MILES ON IT FOR A CAR OF ITS AGE. YOU CAN SEE MANY ENGINE BLOCK FAILURES LIKE THIS FOR 2006-2009 HONDA CARS AT HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/HONDA/CIVIC/2006/ENGINE/CRACKED_ENGINE_BLOCK.SHTML CURRENTLY ANYBODY HAVING THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE THEIR ENGINE OVERHEAT, STALL VERY QUICKLY AND HONDA IS NOT REFUNDING OR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND REFUNDING OWNERS FOR THE COST OF THE CAR. I ASK THAT HONDA ISSUE A RECALL INSTEAD OF A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS SERIOUS ISSUE CONSIDERING THAT THIS WOULD MAKE THE ENGINE INOPERABLE AND OVERHEAT VERY QUICKLY WITH THIS ISSUE.
ONCE PAINT WAS RECALLED BUT NOT FOR THE BODY OF CAR THAT IS DOING THE SAME. PAINT IS PEELING ON TOP OF CAR AND ON BOTH DOORS. ALSO SUN VISORS WERE RECAL YET THEY ARE BROKE AGAIN. ALSO CAR HAS 11633 MILES AND I HAVE REPLACED BRAKES 3 TIMES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE AT A STOP, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED. THE AIR BAGS EXPLODED, BUT DID NOT INFLATE AND DEBRIS CAME OUT OF THE AIR BAGS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CUT TO THE LEFT ARM AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE IMPOUND LOT AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. I WENT TO A MECHANIC TODAY, I HAVE 'PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT FLASHING' HE TOLD ME HONDAS HAVE RECALLED FOR AIRBAGS IN DEALERSHIPS SO I CHECKED MY VEHICLE REPORT IT SAYS THAT I HAD 2 RECALLS IN 2019 AND I DID THEM BUT I DIDN'T. 'RECALL SUBJECT: AIR BAGS: PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL REPORT RECEIPT DATE: 06/27/2019 NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 19V502000' I BELIEVE I HAD THAT PROBLEM WHEN I BOUGHT MY CAR, MY PASSENGER LIGHTS OFF BLINKING WHILE I'M DRIVING EVEN THO NO PASSENGERS THERE. SO I WAS TRYING TO CHECK MY RECALLS ON THE HONDA WEBSITE IT SHOWS THAT I DON'T HAVE ANY. ALSO, I HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN I DO REVERSE ENGINE LIGHT STARTS FLASHING P0812 CODE BUT NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT CODE
THIRD (HIGH) BRAKE LIGHT DID NOT FUNCTION UPON ANNUAL INSPECTION. APPEARS A SOLDERED CONNECTION WAS DEFECTIVE. ORDERED A REPLACEMENT 3RD BRAKE LIGHT AND IT TO, NEW OUT OF THE BOX, ALSO DID NOT WORK AND AGAIN HAD A FAULTY SOLDER JOINT AT CONNECTION TO LIGHT. SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND I NOTICED THE CAR WAS STARTING TO OVERHEAT. I PULLED OVER INTO A LOCAL BANK PARKING LOT AND OPENED THE HOOD TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK THAT THE COOLANT WAS SEEPING OUT OF. TSB 10-048
THE TPMS LIGH DOES NOT TURN OFF AFTER CHECKING IT. I HAVE 5 RECALLS FOR AIRBAG AT THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT I DID NOT KNOW OF.
MY ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, CAUSING BILLOWS OF STEAM TO ERUPT FROM UNDER MY HOOD, PARTIALLY BLOCKING MY VISION WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE NOW LEAKS COOLANT AND NEEDS TO BE CONSTANTLY REFILLED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE OPERABLE. ENGINE BLOCKS DON'T JUST CRACK. HONDA KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES, BUT THEY WANT ME TO PAY MORE THAN $7000 TO REPAIR THE ENGINE! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK DOES NOT FALL UNDER REGULAR MAINTENANCE OR WEAR AND TEAR, NOT AT ANY MILEAGE, AND ESPECIALLY NOT AT 130,000. I WANT TO REITERATE THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS THE INITIAL POINT OF FAILURE, AS CONFIRMED BY BOTH HONDA AND THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO (HENDRICK HONDA, CHARLESTON SC) AND THAT THE ENGINE GOT SO HOT THAT IT BURNED AND MELTED THE DIPSTICK/TOP OF THE ENGINE
DRIVING THE CAR ON THE ROAD IT OVERHEATED AND TURNED OFF, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP TECH, TO FIND OUT THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO LEAK THE COOLANT AND OVERHEATING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE PROBLEM DOES NOT GIVE ANY WARNING SIGNS! ALSO, IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. AMERICAN HONDA REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM...
WATER LEAKING AT SIDE PANEL AT AIR BAG ON PASSENGER SIDE. ACCORDING TO HONDA NO RECALL. HOWEVER WHILE RESEARCHING IT APPEARS A TON OF COMPLAINTS. THE DRIPPING OF WATER WAS NOTICED DURING HEAVY RAINFALL.
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC WITH 50500 MILES. I BOUGHT USED A YEAR AND TWO MINS AGO. I BOUGHT IT OFF SOMEONE I KNEW THAT HAD FULL MAINTENCE RECORDS. ABOUT A MONTH AGO I STARTED HAVING TEMPERATURE ISSUES WITH IT SLOWLY LEAKING COOLOANT. I TOOK IT TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC AND HE SAID I HAD CRACK IN MY ENGINE BLOCK. I CALLED HONDA AND THAT I WAS OUTSIDE OF THE TEN YEAR WARRANTY EXTENSION. THEY HAVE A KNOWN DEFECTIVE ISSUE WITH THERE ENGINE BLOCK AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 4000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I FOUND THIS RIDICULOUS THAT A CAR WITH 50000 HAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. I BOUGHT A HONDA BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE RELIABLE. NEVER AGAIN
I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN JULY 2018. SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE CAR RAN HOT. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD A CRACK AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I REPLACED THE MOTOR CAUSING ME $4257 DOLLARS. THE OWNER OF BOB MORTON GARAGE TOLD THAT SHE HAD BEEN TOLD BY THE HONDA'S REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE HAD BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINES ON THE HONDA CIVIC CARS AND FOR ME TO CHECK IT OUT. I WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SPURTING FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING, SO THEY SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH I DID. IT WAS THE IDLER CAUSING PROBLEMS. I ASKED ONE OF THE EMPLOYEE HANDLING MY CAR THAT MORNING IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS WITH THE HONDA CIVIC CARS AND I WAS TOLD NO. THEN I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING AND HAVING TO BE REPLACED. SINCE I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW IN TERMS OF REIMBURSEMENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CROWN HONDA (7671 US. 19 NORTH, PINELLAS PARK, FA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LOW ON COOLANT. COOLANT WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. WHILE CHANGING THE OIL, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS DISCOLORED DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS FAULTY AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO O'MALLEY HONDA (3405 STEWART AVE, WAUSAU, WI 54401 (715) 842-2131) BUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 143,000. *TR
ENGINE BLOCK CRACK AT 107,980 MILE. 3 MONTHS OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRENTY. HONDA TOOK 3 WEEKS TO GET BACK WITH US. THE GOOD WILL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ARGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE BLOCK REPAIR. COST FOR THE BLOCK ONLY WAS $2,200 WITHE THE DISCOUNT. THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE COST CLOSE TO $6000 FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX. JUST WANTED TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT. WASN'T SURE WERE TO DO THIS.
NOISE FROM ENGINE WHEN STATIONARY OR PARKED. IN 2010, SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER AND PIVOT BOLT REPLACED NOISE WENT AWAY BUT DEALER DID NOT KNOW HOW LONG WOULD LAST. NOW, SAME NOISE IS RETURNING WHICH CAN ONLY BE TENSIONER AND PIVOT BOLT AGAIN. VERY DISTINCT NOISE FOR THIS PROBLEM.
CAR TEMPERATURE STARTED TO INCREASED RAPIDLY, SMOKE FROM ENGINE, REVVING BUT NOT ACCELERATING MUCH AND FINALLY IT OVERHEATED AND DIED. CAN TO FIND OUT THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED FROM RADIATOR LEAK THAT HONDA KNEW ABOUT AND DID NOT INFORM ME OF. MAINTENANCE DONE AT DEALERSHIP REGULARLY AND WAS THE ONLY OWNER OF CAR. BECAUSE I DRIVE SO LITTLE MILES PER YEAR, PROBLEM HAPPENED JUST AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY HAD TO 'RESOLVE' THIS PROBLEM FOR OWNERS. WHY WOULDN'T THEY TELL ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEY KNEW ABOUT IT. HAD TO MAKE TOO MANY PHONE CALLS TO FINALLY HAVE THEM REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR $3500. IT'S UNSCRUPULOUS FOR A CORPORATION TO KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM BUT JUST EXTEND THE WARRANTY AND NOT RECALL IT AND THEN NOT HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS JUST OUTSIDE THE TIME WINDOW. VERY DISPLEASED WITH HONDA.
SEEPING COOLANT FROM THE ENGINE ,SMALL CRACK ON MOTOR BEHIND ALTERNATOR
CATASTROPHIC MANUFACTURING ENGINE BLOCK FAILURE, AS SET FORTH IN HONDA TSB 10-048 & 08-044, WHICH RESULTED IN THE SUDDEN AND IMMEDIATE EXPULSION OF ALL COOLANT FROM THE VEHICLE RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT IN ITS' TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS, HONDA DESCRIBES THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS "THE ENGINE (CYLINDER) BLOCK MAY LEAK COOLANT" . HOWEVER, IT IS NOT A SLOW LEAK, BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT SYSTEM IS UNDER PRESSURE, WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, WHEN THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKS ALL THE COOLANT IS SUDDEN EXPELLED FROM THE SYSTEM FORCING A MOTORIST TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER. BECAUSE YOU CANNOT KEEP DRIVING WITH NO COOLANT IN THE VEHICLE, IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT FORCES A DRIVER TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO SAFELY STOP THE CAR. IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAN IF A CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ITS' OIL OR ITS' BRAKES BECAUSE ALL THESE EVENTS FORCE YOU TO IMMEDIATELY AND UNEXPECTEDLY STOP DRIVING, WHICH IS DANGEROUS TO YOU, YOUR PASSENGERS, AND TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.
THIS CAR STARTED LEAKING COOLANT ON THE DRIVEWAY. ONE DAY LATER MY WIFE DRIVES CAR AND WHEN SHE RETURNS HOME STEAM IS COMING FROM ENGINE AND A LOT MORE COOLANT IS LEAKING ON DRIVEWAY. TOWED IT TO THE DEALER. TURNS OUT THERE IS A FACTOR DEFECT CAUSING ENGINE BLOCK TO CRACK PREMATURELY. LUCKILY ENGINE DIDN'T OVERHEAT AND LOCK-UP WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. SCARY THAT THE SYMPTOMS AND ONSET OF CRACK WERE SO SUDDEN. ONLY STARTED DRIPPING ON DRIVEWAY ONE DAY PREVIOUS TO NEAR OVERHEAT. NOT SURE IF MY WIFE OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IF IT OVERHEATED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY.
HORN RANDOMLY GOING OFF, WHILE STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING. ITS A STEADY BEEP AS IF SOMEONE IS LAYING ON THE HORN. THIS PAST SATURDAY THE HORN WAS GOING OFF FOR HOURS UNTIL I RETURNED HOME. I HAD TO GET IN THE CAR AND TAP THE STEERING WELL AND IT STOPPED. IT WENT OFF AGAIN THIS MORNING. A MECHANIC SAID THAT ITS THE AIRBAG PUSHING PRESSURE ON THE HORN. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON A MONTH OR SO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (THE HONDA STORE, 448 BOARDMAN-CANFIELD RD, YOUNGSTOWN, OH 44512, 800-211-9345) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL HIM BACK IN ONE TO THREE DAYS. NO ONE CALLED THE CONTACT BACK. DESPITE METICULOUS MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED 13 MONTHS OUT OF HONDA'S TWICE-EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE ISSUE. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND COOLANT WAS SEEPING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION FROM HONDA IN REGARDS TO THE ISSUE AS THEY CLAIM I WOULD HAVE IN THEIR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048. HONDA WILL NOT OFFER ANY KIND OF DISCOUNT ON THE REPAIR OF THE BLOCK EITHER.
CHANGED THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS AT RECOMMENDED DEALER BY HONDA. THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED IT AND SHOULD HAVE DONE THE PROPER CHECKS TO MAKE SURE ALL IS WELL BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT DONE AS THE CAR ENDED UP LOCKING UP SEATBELTS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER FROM A MINOR POTHOLE THAT THE CASE MANAGER IS CALLING A COLLISION. I COULDNT BELIEVE HE INSISTED THAT THIS (HITTING A POTHOLE AND AIRBAGS GOING OFF) HAD HAPPENED TO HIM ALREADY TRYING TO MAKE IT SEEM NORMAL. MORE IMPORTANTLY, FROM THE CODES THAT THE SHOP INFORMED ME OF, SEAT SENSOR ON PASSENGER SIDE WAS NO GOOD AND ALTHOUGH NO ONE WAS SITTING ON IT IT LOCKED BELTS AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO INFLATE. THEY ARE WITH MY CAR 60 DAYS AND COUNTING.... NEVER HONDA AGAIN.

TAKATA RECALL I CAME HOME FROM A 200 MILE TRIP & NOTICED COOLANT LEAKING FROM ENGINE WHEN I GOT OFF MY CAR AT MY HOUSE. THE ENGINE DID NOT GET HOT OR DID THE TEMPERATURE GAGE MOVE TO INDICATE ENGINE WAS HOT. I HAVE OWNED MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC SINCE 09/05/2009 & NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES. I REMEMBERED I HAD A LETTER FROM HONDA MAILED TO ME ABOUT 10 YR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE OF MY CIVIC . I DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE UP UNTIL JULY 2018. I WAS IN DISBELIEF THAT THE WARRANTY HAD ALREADY BEEN EXPIRED. I WAS SO UPSET THAT I ALWAYS TOOK GOOD CARE OF MY CAR. I CHANGED OIL WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FLUIDS WERE NEVER LOW. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES UNTIL AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT WAS NOT MY FAULT AND THERE WAS NOT ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THE ENGINE BLOCK FROM CRACKING SINCE IT WAS A KNOWN DEFECT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP 50 MILES AWAY ON A FLAT BED TRAILER TO GET IT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID WARRANTY EXPIRED GAVE ME A BILL STATING ,SHORT ENGINE BLOCK ,RADIATOR ASSY, THERMOSTAT, RADIATIOR HOSES, BYPASS HOSES, TOTAL COST $7504.99 PARTS & LABOR HONDA WOULD COVER PORTION OF THE BILL. THEY DIDNT STATE WHAT PORTION OF THE BILL OR HOW MUCH OF THE BILL THEY WOULD COVER. I AM OUTRAGED THAT I PAID $16,450.00 FOR A HONDA CIVIC WITH A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECT IT HAS ON ITS ENGINES AND SOLD ME A HARD WORKING AMERICAN CONSUMER A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIER LEAKING COOLANT ENGINE PRODUCT. INSTEAD OF OFFERING TO PAY A PORTION OF THE BILL SINCE IT WAS NOT MY FAULT . I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITHOUT A VEHICLE SINCE JULY 2018 I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND CAR SHUT OFF, HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FIRESTONE AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR OVERHEATED AND CRACKED THE BLOCK. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A "SERVICE BULLETIN EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS. HONDA SAYS IT IS RELATED TO A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BUT WILL ONLY COVER 25% OF THE COST CAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY GO BY THE DELIVERY DATE, NOT THE PURCHASE DATE WHICH THE SERVICE BULLETIN STATES. HONDA DOES NOT NOTIFY CUSTOMERS WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THESE CARS ARE AWARE THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUES.
MY ENGINE OVERHEATED DUE TO A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE HONDAS, IT IS WHAT I HEARD. ANYWAY, THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME AN ACCIDENT SINCE I WAS DRIVING AT 65MPH, AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED. HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO HONOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALER LATER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS REMOVED FROM THE WARRANTY LIST AND THE REPAIRS WERE NO LONGER COVERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OPENED A CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THEY STATED IT HAD A NEW ENGINE THAT IT HAD BEEN REPLACED BY HONDA DUE TO BLOCK BEING REPLACED IN 2006 TO 2008 BECAUSE THE DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK. ON 1/16/2018 AFTER BUYING IT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND GAUAGE FOR HOT/COLD WENT TO HOT. TOOK IT BACK TO S&W AFTER CALLING AS THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO. THEY STATED WAS A LOOSE WIRE AND THAT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT AND NOT TO WORRY IF THAT HOT/COLD THING SHOULD HOT AGAIN. HOWEVER IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON JULY 8 2018 AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START. TOOK IT TO GARAGE AND FOUND OUT HAD LEAK AND NEEDED WATER PUMP REPLACED. HOWEVER MECHANIC CALLED AND THAT WAS FIXED BUT COME TO FIND OUT ENGINE BLOCK HAD A LEAK/CRACKED AND YOU CAN SEE FROM TOP WATER POOLING. I DID THIS AM 7/20/2018 AT 7:00 AM AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $110 TO LOOK AT IT. I WORK TWO JOBS AND DON'T HAVE THIS KIND OR MONEY TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT WAS TO BE FIXED AND WAS TOLD WAS A NEW ENGINE THAT HONDA REPLACED. ON MAY 23, 2018, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 78 MILES FROM HOME, MY A/C STOPPED WORKING AND THE TEMP. GAUGE WAS UP TO H. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE HEAT ON TO COOL THE ENGINE. ACCORDING TO A PARTS PERSON AT HONDA THIS CRACK DOESN'T HAVE ANY PHYSICAL WARNING SIGNS UNTIL IT OVERHEATS. . I BOUGHT MY CAR MAY 5, 2008, SO I AM 21 DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE BEST THE DEALERSHIP WILL DO IS COVER 75%. SO I WONDER HOW LONG BEFORE MY WARRANTY WAS OUT WAS IT LEAKING? THE REASON THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED WAS BECAUSE HONDA USED A CHEAPER METAL. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US IT WOULD COST AROUND $6,000 BECAUSE THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ENDED. MY MOTHER AND I WERE STRANDED FOR 4 DAYS WHILE WE WAITED THIS OUT. PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WHERE ATTACHED TO CLAMP ON TO HINGE MECHANISM HAS COME APART. THE LITTLE TEETH THAT ARE INSIDE ARE THIN PLASTIC AND HAVE BROKEN OFF. VISOR CAN ONLY STAY IN THE STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN POSITION, AND CANNOT BE USED ON THE SIDE WINDOW BECAUSE IT BOUNCES AND IS UNSTABLE. THIS WAS NOT THE RESULT OF ANY ACCIDENT. FOR SOME REASON IT WON'T LET ME ADD THE PICTURES, BUT I CAN EMAIL THEM TO YOU IF TELL ME WHERE TO SEND THEM.
THE CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS WIRING HARNESS THAT CONTROLS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND DRIVER AND PASSENGER SAFETY. THIS CAUSES THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON AND PREVENTS PROPER DEPLOYMENT. THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY COMMON IN HONDAS, SPECIFICALLY 8TH GENERATION CARS. THE CAUSE IS A POORLY MADE WIRE THAT GETS CAUGHT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT TRACK, CAUSING A SHORT IN THE WIRE. IT CAN ONLY BE REPAIRED PROPERLY AND SAFELY BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS AND REPLACING IT. THIS REQUIRES THAT THE CARPETING AND THE DASHBOARD BE REMOVED AND TAKES 6-8 HOURS WORTH OF WORK, AND IS REPLACED WITH A $200-400 PART DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU TAKE IT. IT CANNOT BE FIXED EASILY OR AFFORDABLY BY THE CONSUMER, AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING SAFE TO DRIVE OR PASSING INSPECTIONS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE OCCURRED SOONER, AS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY PURCHASED USED A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT HAPPENS IN MOST HONDAS AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S 150,000 MILE WARRANTY ON OTHER PARTS DESPITE HAVING RELEASED A TSB TO ALL DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON. IT PRESENTS A DANGER TO DRIVERS AND DESERVES TO HAVE A RECALL ISSUED.

I FOUND OUT THE SAME DAY THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2008 HONDA CIVIC ENGINES AFTER GETTING MY AIRBAGS FIXED (DUE TO A RECALL @HONDA). I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO HONDA TODAY TO FIND OUT IF MY CAR QUALIFIES FOR THE ENGINE BLOCK RECALL, EVEN IF I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR. I AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE ABOUT THIS MATTER, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHERE THEY PERFORMED THE DIAGNOSIS TO FIND THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY IDENTIFIED THAT THERE WAS CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK WHICH HAS CAUSED THE COOLANT TO LEAK FROM THE ENGINE AND HENCE OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE HAS HAPPENED AND MADE IT TO MALFUNCTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WHOLE ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED (USED ONE) AND FEW OTHER PARTS AS WELL (LIKE SPARK PLUG ETC.) TO MAKE THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN WHICH WOULD COST ME AROUND $2500. IT WAS DEVASTATING TO HEAR THIS. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MOST OF THE 2006 TO 2009 CIVICS HAD THIS ENGINE CRACK ISSUE AND HONDA IS ALSO AWARE OF THIS. DESPITE THIS HONDA HAS NOT CALLED FOR THE RECALL OF SUCH THOSE ENGINES AND JUST DID A WARRANTY EXTENSION. TSB 10-048 WAS ISSUED FOR THIS. BUT STILL A LOT OF 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS ARE FACING THIS ISSUE EVEN AT VERY LOW MILES LIKE MINE. MINE HAS 166,000 MILES. I CHECKED WITH THE SERVICE CONSULTANT IF THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SHE DID A VIN INQUIRY AND SAID THAT MAY CAR IS STILL IN WARRANTY (THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE OF THE CAR WAS 20-APRIL- 2008 AND THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ME ON -15 MARCH-2018). THIS IS A BIG BLOW TO ME. I RAISED THIS CONCERN WITH HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY FILED A CASE.WITH NUMBER 07506763 WITH COUPLE OF DAYS LATER (ON 09/07/2017) THE CASE MANAGER PROBABLY WILL CALL ME ON MONDAY MARCH 18, 2018.
