June 17, 2022 my daughter was hit on the driver side rear corner panel by a vehicle that ran a red light. The impact had enough force to spin her 2003 Honda CRV 180 degrees yet none of the airbags deployed. The rear driver side wheel was bent inward and had to be towed.
The contact received notification of a recall for a 2003 Honda CR-V she never owned. The contact received several post cards notifications for Takata air bag recalls and requested to be removed from the recall distribution list. The contact stated that the recall notification was addressed to an unknown individual who never lived at her address. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.
The SRS light in my Honda CRV recently went on, and remains on, when the vehicle is in operation. Last week, I took the car to Honda of Princeton (local Honda dealer), who diagnosed the problem as a DTC 15-3 Faulty OPDS Sensor, and further explained that this faulty sensor could potentially cause the passenger-side airbag (replaced in a prior Honda CRV recall) to NOT deploy in the event of an accident. Indeed, the repair documentation included a dealer statement that I had been made aware of the issue. I paid for this diagnostic work, which was overseen by [XXX], who is a service lane manager at the dealer (Tel: [XXX]). The dealer said it would NOT assume financial responsibility for the replacement of this faulty sensor since the defect is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall, and stressed that this defect is not covered by the various Honda airbag recalls, even though the faulty sensor could impair airbag deployment in an accident. This faulty sensor may cause non-deployment of the passenger-side airbag, and it would therefore seem self-evident that the defect places the safety of any front-seat passenger in my Honda CRV at grave risk. Today, I called American Honda Motor Company (Tel: 888-234-2138) concerning the faulty sensor, and spoke with "[XXX]", who opened Case #[XXX] based on our call. [XXX] said the faulty sensor is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall. She also confirmed (I had already found the bulletin online and asked about it) that the Honda CRV's faulty OPDS sensor was the subject of Honda Service Bulletin 06-006, which extended the warranty to 10 years for the faulty sensor, but she noted that the faulty OPDS sensor was no longer covered by this service bulletin or warranty. [XXX] said that American Honda Motor Co. would not assume financial responsibility for the faulty OPDS sensor on this basis, but suggested that I try to 'work with' the local Honda dealer to address the problem. [XXX] . I TOOK MY 2003 HONDA INTO LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY OR MARCH OF 2021 (UNSURE WHEN EXACTLY) FOR THEM TO WORK ON ANOTHER RECALL. I HAD RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL LETTER FROM HONDA NATIONAL CORP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I HAD ALREADY HAD THIS DONE. BUT NOW I LOOKED UP MY VIN ON NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT SAYS THERE IS ONE "UNREPAIRED RECALL" FROM JUNE 27, 2019. I PURCHASED THE 2003 HONDA CRV FROM ANTHONY AUTO SALES IN THOMSON, GA ON 2/21/2020. AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER/CHARGING PORT DIDN'T WORK. DID A FUSE TEST ON IT ONLY TO DISCOVER HALF OF THE FUSES WEREN'T WORKING IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. I CALLED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT MAY BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM I COULDN'T GET THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE I WAS HAVING SURGERY THE FOLLOWING WEEK. ON FEBRUARY 25 WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN BUT PICKED ITS SPEED BACK UP AND FOR SOME REASON IT SEEMS TO GET POOR GAS MILEAGE. I LIKE MY VEHICLE I JUST WANT TO KNOW OF ANY FUTURE AND PAST RECALLS AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THEM RECTIFIED SINCE I NOW OWN THE VEHICLE. PAST REPORTS HAVE ALSO SHOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAGS AS WELL. THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCKS AS WELL.
WAS TOLD BY LOCAL DEALER SRS LIGHT LED TO SEAT BELT BUCKLE.. WOULD NOT FIX WITHOUT BIG DIAGNOSIS FEE AND COST OF PART. DID SOME RESEARCH ON WEB AND FOUND THIS LOOKS LIKE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.
I HAVE RESPONDED TO HONDA'S REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION RE: I NO LONGER OWN MY VEHICLE AT LEAST FOUR TIMES! I PROVIDED TRADE IN INFO IN 2008 WHEN I PURCHASED A NEW CAR. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST, RIBS, AND ARMS, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.
AIRBAGS RECALL WAS TAKEN CARE OF AND THEN THE MAIN AIRBAG COMPUTER CAME ON FOR ALL THE AIRBAGS BUT HONDA SAID THAT IS NOT COVERED AFTER THEY HAD TAMPERED WITH THE AIRBAG RECALL THE SAME YEAR.

TAKATA RECALL - ON SEPTEMBER 11TH 2015, I GOT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG OF MY 2003 HONDA CRV REPLACED AFTER MONTHS OF WAITING. I HAVE UNTIL THIS DAY STILL RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS FROM HONDA THAT THEY STILL NEED TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG. I CALLED THE 1-844-758-9245 NUMBER OF HONDA'S TO DETERMINE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOW A PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG RECALL AND THEY SAID THIS IS WHY I AM STILL RECEIVING THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG NOTICE. THIS SOUND SUSPICIOUS TO ME. WHY IS HONDA TELLING ME THEIR IS A PASSENGER SIDE RECALL NOW BUT I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE FOR THIS? WHY CAN THEY NOT REPORT THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REPLACEMENT? WHY HAS THIS WHOLE PROCESS TAKEN YEARS AT THIS POINT?

ON 07-07-16 I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT SUPERIOR HONDA OF OMAHA DUE TO AN SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATING ON MY DASHBOARD. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE LIGHT COULD BE A RESULT OF SEATBELT FAILURE BECAUSE THE SRS SYSTEM IS A COMPONENT OF THE SEATBELTS. WHEN I HAD MY 2003 CRV SERVICED AT SUPERIOR HONDA OF OMAHA DUE TO AN SRS LIGHT PROBLEM DIAGNOSED, THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE SRS CONTROL MODULE. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THIS PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE HONDA LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR SEATBELTS AND I WAS CHARGED 820.35 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE SRS ILLUMINATES, THEN IT IS POSSIBLE THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT SYSTEM WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, SO FOR SAFETY CONCERNS I AGREED TO THE REPLACEMENT. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, I CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATE OFFICES AND SPOKE TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE (NICKY). SHE GAVE ME A COMPLAINT REFERENCE # 04820522 AND I WAS THEN REFERRED TO HER SUPERVISOR LIZ. LIZ CONTACTED ME EARLIER THIS WEEK AND REITERATED THAT THE SRS MODULE IS NOT A COMPONENT OF THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM IN HONDA VEHICLES AND THAT HONDA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REIMBURSING ME FOR THE REPAIR. I DISAGREE. ATTACHED YOU WILL FIND A COPY OF MY BILL FROM SUPERIOR HONDA, A COPY OF A SERVICE NEWS ARTICLE FROM HONDA THAT CLEARLY STATES THE SRS IS A COMPONENT OF THE SEATBELT SYSTEM AND A COPY OF THE PAGE IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL THAT STATES HONDA'S LIFETIME WARRANTY AND COMPONENT COVERAGE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS BILL. THANK YOU

THIS CAR, OWNED BY MY WIFE, WAS BROUGHT TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED. BECAUSE OF MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH SOME OF THESE PLACES, I DO NOT PUT A LOT OF TRUST IN THEM AND KNOW SOME WILL SAY THE WORK WAS DONE WHEN IN FACT IT WAS NOT. SO I PLACED A TINY PIECE OF MASKING TAPE ON THE INSIDE LIP OF THE STEERING WHEEL COVER TO MAKE SURE THEY WOULD ACTUALLY REMOVE IT. WHEN MY WIFE RETURNED HOME WITH THE CAR, THE TAPE WAS STILL THERE. I HAD ATTACHED IT LOOSELY AND IT FELL OFF AS SOON AS I TOUCHED IT. THIS SHOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF WITH THE STEERING COVER REMOVAL. BEFORE DOING THIS SWAP, THE BATTERY WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE DISCONNECTED. I CHECKED THE RADIO AND ALL THE CHANNELS WERE STILL PRESET, YET THE MEMORY SHOULD HAVE BEEN WIPED WHEN THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE RADIO CODE WAS WRITTEN IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL SO THEY COULD HAVE RESET THE CHANNELS BUT THAT WOULD BE UNLIKELY FOR THEM TO DO. I ASKED MY WIFE WHICH CD WAS PLAYING WHEN SHE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND SHE SAID THE SAME ONE THAT WAS PLAYING WHEN I ARRIVED THERE. AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND RESETTING THE RADIO, THE CD PLAYER WILL START PLAYBACK AT DISC 1, TRACK 1. NOW THEY MAY HAVE DONE THE WORK WITHOUT ACTUALLY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY BUT I WAS NOT CONVINCED SO I REMOVED THE STEERING COVER MYSELF. THE SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE NEW AIRBAG ON MY INVOICE IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND ON THE AIRBAG IN THE CAR. IT IS A TAKATA AIRBAG STILL, BUT I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE PROVIDING THE NEW AIRBAGS. I AM NOT ABOUT TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER TO ACCUSE THEM OF NOT DOING THE WORK AS I NEED TO BE 100% SURE OF THIS. I WOULD HATE TO CAUSE SOMEONE'S REPUTATION TO BE DAMAGED BY AN UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIM.
