I BOUGHT TWO 2004 CRV'S NEW IN 12/2004. AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSORS IS NOT BLOW COLD AIR ANY MORE. THE JOB COST $4470 FOR FIXING ONLY THIS PROBLEM. SOUNDS CRAZY PRICE. DEALER -THEY WOULD NOT ADMIT TO ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM USA NATIONWIDE . HONDA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED IN MY OPINION. I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD ALSO HANDLED BY "NHTSA" . VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. IF HONDA DOES NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE I WOULD CONSIDER BUYING MY NEXT CAR FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY. NEVER HONDA CAR AGAIN IN MY LIFE. HONDA AMERICA HEADQUARTER COMPANY SHOULD ISSUE RECALL ON HONDA CRV 2004 BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. I BELIEVE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR IS DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. BECAUSE THEY ARE MANY COMPLAINT ON INTERNET. *TR
EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF A/C IN 2004 HONDA CR-V LX THAT WE PURCHASED NEW. THE COMPRESSOR SEIZED AND ALSO SENT SHRAPNEL INTO THE SYSTEM. *TR
AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR SEIZED AT 125K--THIS IS THE SECOND ONE--NEW PART IS ON ORDER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN THE SUMMER WHEN I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL OF SMOKE IN MY VEHICLE. WITHIN 5 MINUTES MY AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN TO BLOW HOT AIR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THEY SHOWED ME WITH THE VEHICLE IN THE AIR THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE CONDENSING UNIT OF MY VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT,THEY STATED THAT THE HOLE WAS BLOWN IN THE UNIT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AFTER THAT. THE MECHANICS THERE SAID THAT I MUST HAVE RUN INTO A PIECE OF METAL. THEN, OFF THE RECORD, THEY STATED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS HAD THEIR AC'S GO OUT IN THE SAME WAY AND THAT HONDA WOULD PROBABLY BE RECALLING THEM. I RESEARCHED IT A LITTLE AT THE TIME AND GOT NO-WHERE WITH HONDA. HONDA STATED SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. AT THE TIME I GAVE UP...HOWEVER, WITH ADDITIONAL REPLACEMENTS THAT I HAVE HAD TO MAKE THAT ARE UN-CHARACTERISTIC AND UNTIMELY FOR A HONDA, AND WITH ADDITIONAL INSPECTIONS BY BOTH HONDA AND NON-MECHANICS...I WAS TOLD THAT MY ENTIRE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WAS PUT IN SIDEWAYS BY DESIGN AND THAT DESIGN CAUSES MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MULTIPLE COMPONENTS. I ACTUALLY HAD ONE REPUTABLE GARAGE REFUSE TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS SO POORLY DESIGNED AND DIFFICULT TO WORK ON. SADLY, I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN. AND I HAVE HAD 5 HONDA'S PRIOR TO THIS ONE, BOUGHT THIS ONE NEW, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY ENOUGH HAD HONDA OWNED UP TO THE PROBLEMS. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 HONDA CRV THE AC COMPRESSOR FAILED AT 60K AND DESTROYED THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM THE ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR IS $2500. I LIVE IN ATLANTA AND CAN NOT OWN A CAR WITHOUT AC. I HAVE BEEN READING ON LINE AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE COMPRESSOR BELT IS DRIVEN BY THE ENGINE AND IF THE COMPRESSOR LOCKS UP THE ENGINE WILL STALL. IF THIS HAPPEN IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY THIS WILL CERTAINLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL THEIR COMPRESSORS AND REPLACE THEM WITH A RE-DESIGNED UNIT. 2004 HONDA CRV AIR CONDITIONER - WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND HEARD WHISTLE, FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY WHAT SOUNDED LIKE POPCORN POPPING. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND SAID THAT MY COMPRESSOR HAD EXPLODED AND THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR, CONDENSER, CLUTCH AND COIL (WHEN THE COMPRESSOR EXPLODES, IT SEND METAL SHARDS THROUGH THE SYSTEM)T FOR A COST OF $2100. I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE TO CONTACT HONDA USA CUSTOMER SERVICE. WHEN I CALLED THEM, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS UNFORTUNATE, BUT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AS MY MILEAGE IS APPROX 63K MILES, AND THAT I NEEDED TO SPEAK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO. CURRENTLY, THERE IS ONE SITE COLLECTING DATA TO FORM A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND NUMEROUS SITES WITH COUNTLESS ACCOUNTS OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUE - THE COMPRESSOR EXPLODING USUALLY BETWEEN 40K-70K MILES ON MODEL YEARS 2002-2005, WITH MULTIPLE INDIVIDUALS HAVING TO HAVE THEIR UNITS MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR

AC COMPRESSOR FAIL. COMPRESSOR SEIZED UP, BUILT PRESSURE, EXPLODED. HAD REPAIRED. 2 YEARS LATER, SAME THING. HAD IT REPAIRED. 3 YEARS LATER, 5/29/15, SAME THING HAPPENED. LOOKED ONLINE FOR RECALL. THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS, BUT NO RECALL. COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE INJURY.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SEAT BELT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER REVIEWING THE MANUAL, THE CONTACT LEARNED THAT THE WARNING LIGHT INDICATED A FAILURE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. ..UPDATED 07/13/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS REAR ENDED AND THE SEAT BELT DID NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN HIM. HE SUFFERED A SLIGHT HEAD INJURY. UPDATED 07/18/12
AIRCONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING AFTER HEARING A BANG AND HISS. *TR
AC COMPRESSOR HAS FAILED. VEHICLE MODEL AND MANUFACTURER HAVE A LONG HISTORY WITH THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. THERE IS NO RECALL IN PROCESS. MANUFACTURING DEFECT CAUSES EXPENSIVE REPAIRS FOR REPLACING ENTIRE AC SYSTEM AT COST OF $4000, AND EACH TIME AC FAILS, IT REQUIRES A RECHARGE WITH R TYPE FREON - WHICH MEANS THE R FREON HAS ESCAPED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. THERE IS LAWYER INVESTIGATING CLASS ACTION - [XXX].. [XXX]. THERE ARE MANY HONDA CRV FORUMS DISCUSSING THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. HONDA NEGATES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND REPAIR COSTS. *TR
THE LEVER WHICH LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL INTO AN UP OR DOWN POSITION IS SLIPPING CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE UP OR DOWN WHILE DRIVING. MY FEAR IS THAT THIS UNSTABLE WHEEL WILL CAUSE MY WIFE OR I TO HAVE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CAN THE MANUFACTURER BE MADE TO CORRECT THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION? *TR
THE LEVER WHICH LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE UP OR DOWN POSITION DOES NOT STAY IN THE LOCKED POSITION. IT SLOWLY LOOSENS, EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS SCARY, ESPECIALLY IF I'M MAKING A TURN WHEN THE WHEELS MOVES. I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR DO THIS. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WON'T WORK, EVEN THOUGH HIGH BEAMS DO.
PROBLEM: SUDDEN ACCELERATION DUE TO DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. THE IDLE RPMS ARE EXCESSIVE UPON STARTUP AND LEAD TO SUDDEN ACCELERATION DURING BRAKING TO A STOP. BACKGROUND: MALFUNCTION LAMP LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY TURNING ON AND OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ONLY FOUND THE ERROR CODE FOR THE O2 SENSOR. LATER TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO FIX THE O2 SENSOR AND THEY FOUND A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY (ERROR CODE P0122). THERE ARE SEVERAL FORUMS WHICH ADDRESS THIS EXACT ISSUE ON 2002-2004 HONDA CRV. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 20, WHILE DRIVING ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY OUR CAR SHIMMIED AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SIMULTANEOUSLY, MY WIFE HEARD A SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WE QUICKLY PULLED ONTO THE EXIT (JUST SOUTH OF BUFFALO) INTO AN AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SHOP THAT WAS RIGHT OFF THE EXIT RAMP. WHEN WE PULLED INTO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE CAR STALLED. A QUICK DIAGNOSIS BY THE REPAIR SHOP CONCLUDED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT REPAIRABLE THAT DAY AS THE SHOP WAS CLOSING IN 15 MINUTES. ON MONDAY, THE REPAIR SHOP REPORTED THAT THE SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER 2 HAD BLOWN OUT. TO ATTEMPT A FIX, THEY INSERTED A HELI-COIL AND PLUG BUT WERE STILL UNABLE TO GET THE PRESSURE ABOVE 40 P.S.I ON THE CYLINDER. A DEEPER DIAGNOSIS INDICATED SCOURING/SCARRING ON THE CYLINDER 2 BORE AS WELL AS THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSED BY THE SPARK PLUG DEBRIS. I WAS TOLD THE ONLY COST EFFECTIVE FIX FOR THIS WAS TO GET A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. TO GET ANOTHER OPINION, I CONTACTED A LOCAL HONDA DEALER IN THE BUFFALO AREA (RAY LAKS) AND THEY CONFIRMED OVER THE PHONE THAT SCARRING ON THE CYLINDER SLEEVE WOULD REQUIRE A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. THE PLUGS THAT WERE ON THE CAR WERE THE OEM FACTORY INSTALLED. I HAD PLANNED ON REPLACING THESE AT 110,000 MILES PER THE HONDA MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. MY CAR HAD 105,713 MILES WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. I AM THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS AUTOMOBILE. THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THE FAILURE OF THIS OEM COMPONENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIGHTS UP INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CHANGED GAS CAP TWICE BUT PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY. *TR
TILT STEERING LOCK MECHANISM WILL FAIL AND ALLOW STEERING COLUMN TO FLOAT. THIS FLOAT CONDITION LEADS TO A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT BUT MOST OFTEN OCCURS AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 40 DEGREES F. *TR
ON APRIL 11 2009 I PURCHASED FOUR NEW BRIDGESTONE DUELLER H/T 684 TIRES FOR MY 2004 HONDA CRV. ON APRIL 23 I HAD R & M AUTOMOTIVE IN NORTHRIDGE, CA ALIGN THE WHEELS ON THE CRV. R & M IS MY REGULAR MECHANIC FOR THIS CAR. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 83875. ON NOVEMBER 26, 2009 I NOTICED EXPOSED STEEL BELTS ON THE LEFT REAR TIRE AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE OTHER THREE TIRES. THE CAR MILEAGE WAS 92763. I WAS TOLD THIS EXTREME TIRE WEAR WAS THE RESULT OF IMPROPER ALIGNMENT WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE STORE WHERE I BOUGHT THEM. THEY DID HOWEVER NOTE THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE LEFT REAR TIRE AND INSTALLED THE SPARE TIRE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO R & M WHERE THEY CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. R& M THOUGHT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE TIRES AND OFFERED TO PROVIDE A RENTAL. R& M REPLACED THE TIRES AT NO COST. I STILL HAVE THE TIRES IN MY POSSESSION AND I BELIEVE THEY WERE FLAWED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I DISCOVERED THIS SITUATION BEFORE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THE TIRES HAD ONLY 8,400 MILES ON THEM AND I WASN'T CHECKING THEM BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOOD FOR ANOTHER 30,000 MILES. I HAVE USED THESE TIRES BEFORE AND THEY PERFORMED WELL AND I GOT 40-50,000 MILES OF WEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH SHE NOTICED A LOUD POPPING SOUND FOLLOWED BY A CLANKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. MOMENTS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO WANDER TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FROZE AND BLEW OUT THE CASING. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIVING IN A SLUGGISH MANNER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 72000.
I HAVE REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT BULBS FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF IN MY 2004 HONDA CRV. THE FIRST THREE TIMES I REPLACED THEM MYSELF. THE FOURTH TIME I TOOK MY 2004 HONDA CRV TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKED TO ENSURE THERE WAS NOT A SHORT. THE DEALERSHIP PROCLAIMED EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT BULBS. SO FAR THEY HAVE LASTED SIX MONTHS. I WILL BE SURPRISED IF THEY LAST ANOTHER MONTH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WHILE DRIVING TO PORTLAND, OR. FROM WA HEARD A LOUD SQUEAL FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. TURNS OUT THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS BURNED OUT AT 84K MILES. HONDA SAID IT WAS MY PROBLEM AND NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. THE ONE SERPENTINE BELT DRIVES THE WATER PUMP, POWER STEERING PUMP, ALTERNATOR AND THE A/C COMPRESSOR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THE PORTLAND DEALER WOULD NOT ADVISE ME TO DRIVE IT AT ALL. IF THE BELT BURNS OFF DO TO THE A/C COMPRESSOR SEIZURE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WOULD STOP POSSIBLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
AFTER 5 YEARS OF PROBLEM FREE DRIVING, MY CRV STARTED MAKING A LOUD RATTLING SOUND AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. I TRIED TURNING THE BLOWER FAN OFF , THEN AIR CONDITIONER OFF AND REALIZED IT WAS THE AC MAKING THE NOISE. I LEFT THE AC OFF FROM THEN ON AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST DEALER THE VERY NEXT DAY. THEY TOLD ME THE COMPRESSOR HAD "SEIZED" AND THAT METAL PARTICLES HAD BEEN FORCED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM. THE REPAIRS FOR THIS WERE QUOTED AT $2650. I THEN SAW ON THE INTERNET WHERE THERE WERE 678 POSTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM IN DIFFERENT YEAR CRV'S AND THAT HONDA HAD REIMBURSED A FEW OF THEM. I FEEL LIKE THIS MUST BE A VERY PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH CRV'S AND THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF REIMBURSEMENT, BECAUSE A CAR WITHOUT AC IS PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS. *TR
THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR ON MY 2004 HONDA CRV INTERNALLY DISINTEGRATED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE COMPLETE SYSTEM ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE CRV'S. *TR
AIR CONDITIONING FAILURE ON 2004 HONDA CRV. WORKING FINE, SUDDENLY STOPPED COOLING. TOLD I HAD TO REPLACE COMPRESSOR AND OTHER PARTS AS IT IMPLODED WAS THE WORD USED. METAL, ETC ALL IN SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER DENIED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WILL BE AROUND $2400. IT SEEMS CLEAR THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE. *TR
ON AUGUST 13, 2009 MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT IN WHICH HE WAS HIT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THE TWO FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT. HIS INJURIES WERE NOT LIFE THREATENING BUT HE STILL SUFFERS WITH PAIN FROM THE BRUISES AND ABRASIONS PLUS A SMALL HAIRLINE FRACTURE OF A LOWER VERTEBRA. PERHAPS SOME OF THESE INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED OR LESSENED HAD THE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. WE CALLED OUR HONDA DEALER AND HE REFERRED US TO HONDA COMPANY. I TALKED WITH A CHRISTINE AT HONDA AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HER REPLY WAS THAT HONDA DOES NOT INVESTIGATE ACCIDENTS. I TOLD HER THAT I WOULD BE REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA AND WOULD LIKE IT DOCUMENTED THAT I HAD ALSO REPORTED IT TO HONDA. SHE GAVE ME A CASE # N012009-0800615081700615. I WILL BE CONTACTING HONDA AGAIN AS I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESPONSE I RECEIVED FROM THEM. I AM REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO YOU IN HOPES THAT IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SIDE AIRBAGS SOMETHING MAY BE DONE ABOUT IT. THANK YOU. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH A REPAIR ESTIMATE. HE WAS INFORMED THAT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FAILS, IT SENDS METAL PARTICLES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THE A/C COMPRESSOR IN MY 2004 CR-V "BLEW UP" AND STOPPED WORKING ON MAY 2, 2009. A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART ON MAY 5, 2009. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 62K MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WERE ISSUES WITH EARLIER MODELS OF THE CR-V, BUT THAT HONDA HAD CHANGED THE TYPE OF COMPRESSOR IN THE 2004 MODELS. HOWEVER, THERE ARE A LOT OF BLOGS ON THE INTERNET DEVOTED TO A/C COMPRESSOR ISSUES WITH THE CR-VS, INCLUDING THE 2004 MODELS. ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP WROTE OFF PART OF THE REPLACEMENT COST AS WARRANTY COVERAGE (ONLY AFTER I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA), I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF COMPRESSORS IN 2004 MODEL CR-VS AND ANY REPAIRS PAID FOR BY CUSTOMERS REFUNDED. *TR
HEARD A VERY LOAD NOISE UNDER THE CAR AND METAL DEBRIS FLEW ALL OVER THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH, THEN THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING ON MY HONDA CRV EX (2004 MODEL/50,000 MI). WHEN WE COMPLAINED THAT THE COST WAS SO HIGH AND POOR QUALITY FOR A CAR THAT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD, THEY REPLIED "THAT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM AND YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY." AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH ONLINE, WE DISCOVERED THAT THOUSANDS OF HONDA OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM RAISING SAFETY CONCERNS AND THE NEED FOR HONDA TO TAKE ACTION. I DRIVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V WHICH APPEARS TO HAVE AUTOMATIC LOCKING RETRACTORS ON THE SEAT BELTS. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND THE BIGGEST, NOW 4 1/2, HAS JUST MOVED INTO A BOOSTER SEAT. BECAUSE THE SEAT BELTS RETRACT AUTOMATICALLY, GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER WITH EVERY MOVEMENT, MY CHILD ALREADY GOT TERRIFIED WHEN SHE WAS PINNED BACK IN HER SEAT BY THE SEAT BELT, WITH HER CHEST SMASHED INTO HER BOOSTER SEAT. WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO ASSIST HER. ALSO, ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED AN EXCELLENT CAR SEAT, THE AUTOMATIC RETRACTION OF THE SEATBELT MEANS THAT EACH TIME I NEED TO GET MY CHILD IN AND OUT OF THE SEAT, I MUST FIRST UNTHREAD AND THEN RETHREAD THE SEATBELT THROUGH THE SEAT'S GUIDES, CREATING AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO INCORRECTLY. FINALLY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, B/C OF THE AUTOMATIC RETRACTION OF THE SEATBELT, I AM QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK OF STRANGULATION, SUCH AS WHAT HAPPENED TO A LOCAL CHILD, DEANDRE HARRIS (SEE WASHINGTON POST STORY ON DECEMBER 17, 2008).
