THE AIR CONDITIONER DASH BOARD OF MY 2004 HONDA CRV STOPPED WORKING ONE DAY, WITH NO SIGNS OF PROBLEMS BEFORE, THE AIR WAS ON AND TRIED TO TURN IT OFF AND CONTROLS DIDN'T WORK COULDN'T LOWER THE LEVEL OF AIR EITHER, TRIED TO MOVED THE SWITCH BACK AND FORWARD UNTIL FINALLY STOPPED, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUE FOR MONTHS UNTIL THE POINT OF NOT BEEN ABLE TO TURN IT OFF; I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE SO MY A/C WILL TURN OFF. ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON ONE DAY AND WENT OFF IN A DAY OR TWO THEN HAPPENED AGAIN LIKE A MONTH LATER TURNED ON AND THEN OFF IN A COUPLE OF DAYS , THE PROBLEM CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS WAS HARD TO GET DIAGNOSE SINCE BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT TO CHECK LIGHT GOT OFF, IT GOT TO A POINT WHEN ENGINE LIGHT PERMANANTLY STAYED ON- I TOOK MY CAR TO GET THAT CHECKED AND GAVE A VERY GENERIC CODE THAT NOT SPECIFYING THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHT SWITCH FAILS REPEATEDLY. WHEN I REPLACED IT, I NOTICED WHAT APPEARS TO BE HEAT DAMAGE ON THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR. I HAVE REPLACED THE COMBINATION LOW-BEAM/HIGH-BEAM/TURN SIGNAL UNIT THREE TIMES IN THE LAST 7 MONTHS. *TT UPDATED 01/17/12 *BF
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD BANG COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTED TO BLOW HOT AIR .I PULLED OVER AND FOUND UPON OPENING THE HOOD THAT OIL FROM THE A/C COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN FORCED OUT OF THE COMPRESSOR ON TO THE ENGINE. I BROUGHT THE HONDA CRV TO MY SERVICE STATION IMMEDIATELY. UPON THEIR INSPECTION, THEY FOUND THAT THE A/C COMPRESSOR HAD EXPLODED,SENDING REFRIGERANT OIL AND PIECES OF THE COMPRESSOR HOUSING DOWN TO THE GROUND UNDER THE FRONT TIRE. THE REPAIRS NEEDED WERE A NEW A/C COMPRESSOR,CONDENSOR,A/C HOSES,EXPANSION VALVE AT A COST OF TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V260000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: DRIVER SIDE INFLATOR MODULE). THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 12/19/12 *CN UPDATED 1/9/2013 *JS
THE AIR CONDITIONER AND ALL COMPONENTS STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY - I HAVE AROUND 110,000 MILES ON THE CRV. THE DEALER SAYS THE WHOLE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO METAL AND CONTAMINATION IN THE LINES, COST IS AROUND $2200.00. I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CRV'S. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? I THINK WE SHOULD GET IT REPLACED FOR FREE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF RANDOMLY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE CONNECTION TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND ROUTING CONNECTIONS WERE BURNED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. AC COMPRESSOR LOCKED TWICE IN 1 YEAR *TT
2004 HONDA CR-V. BOTH HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS STOPPED FUNCTIONING AT THE SAME TIME. HIGH BEAMS STILL WORK ON BOTH HEADLIGHTS. REPLACING HEADLIGHT LAMPS AND FUSES DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM (BOTH LOW BEAMS STILL NOT FUNCTIONING). I WILL BE GOING TO A MECHANIC THIS COMING WEEK TO GET REPAIRS. I SUSPECT IT IS A MALFUNCTIONING ELECTRICAL SWITCH. *TR
THE DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. FROM THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR-LOCK OPEN OR LOCK ANY DOORS IN THE CAR. THE REMOTE DOOR KEYS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE COMPLETELY BROKEN. THIS IS THE 2ND HONDA CR-V WHICH I HAVE SEEN THIS FROM. THIS BECOMES A SAFETY HAZARD IF THE DOOR MECHANISM IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING BOTH DIM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I PULLED OVER AND REALIZED THE BRIGHT HEAD LIGHTS DID WORK WHILE THE DIMS NO LONGER WORKED. AFTER REPLACING BOTH BULBS AND REALIZING THEY STILL DID NOT WORK. I INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND AFTER VISUALLY INSPECTING THE WIRING HARNESS THAT PLUGS INTO THE COMBINATION SWITCH (BLINKER/HEADLIGHT CONTROL) THERE IS OBVIOUS SIGNS OF HEAT DAMAGE AND ELECTRICAL CORROSION. *TR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK, DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS. BOTH HEADLIGHTS (LOW BEAM) WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY DUE TO AN OVERHEATED CONNECTION BETWEEN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND WIRING HARNESS (PLUG). UPDATED 12/12/11 *BF *TR PICTURES RECEIVED 04/20/12
BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE CONNECTOR TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH HAS MELTED PREVENTING THE SWITCH FROM WORKING. UPDATED 06/10/11 *BF *TR *TR
ON 5/24/2011, AS I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, MY 2004 HONDA MODEL CR-V EX-L, WITH A LOUD NOISE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I LATER LEARNED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM OF THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE HAD BROKEN OFF AND CAUSED THE FRONT RIGHT AXLE TO SNAP OFF AND THE TIRE BECAME DETACHED FROM THE BODY OF THE CAR. THE INSURANCE COMPANY GEICO, HAD THE ADJUSTER LOOKING AT THE CAR, ON 5/25/2011 AND HE DETERMINED THERE HAD BEEN NO COLLISION, NO UNRELATED DAMAGE TO CAUSE THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE CR-V WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE HAD THE CAR SERVICED , I HAVE ALL MY RECORDS. IN 2010, I WENT TO FIRESTONE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE, ALL OTHER SERVICES WERE DONE AT HONDA. THE HONDA INSPECTOR LOOKED AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED THERE WAS NO DEFECT, THE CAR WAS OLD AND THIS WAS THE RESULT FOR SUCH DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I REPORTED MY COMPLAINT TO HONDA, COMPLAINT # [XXX]. NOW I HAVE TO PAY A GOOD DEAL OF THE REPAIRS MYSELF, SINCE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL COVER THE AXLE AND THE LABOR COSTS. EVERY HONDA REPRESENTATIVE, I SPOKE TO, TELLS ME THAT THE CAR IS OLD, AND THIS SORT OF DAMAGE IS TO BE EXPECTED. AT THE TIME THAT THE HONDA INSPECTOR, SAW THE CAR, HE ASKED ME IF ANYONE ELSE HAD WORKED ON THE CAR, I SAID NO BECAUSE, I HAD ALWAYS USED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SERVICE MY CAR; LATER ON, I FOUND THAT IN JULY 2010, I DID HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AT A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AGAIN, AND THE FACT THAT ALL THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVES TELL ME THAT MY CAR IS OLD, AND IT IS TO BE EXPECTED. THE CAR HAD AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT A TOTAL OF 62,342. MILES ON IT. I SHOULD ALSO REPORT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE 4 SETS OF TIRES CHANGED FROM DATE OF PURCHASE TO 2009. AGAIN, THE HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE SAME LOCATION, TOLD ME THAT SUV'S REQUIRE FREQUENT TIRE CHANGES. THE MASTER CYLINDER OF THIS CAR HAS ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY. SUBSEQUENTLY REPAIRED AT A HONDA DEALER. REPAIR REQUIRED A NEW HI/LO BEAM SWITCH AND CONNECTOR/WIRING HARNESS. I REQUESTED OLD PARTS AND UPON INSPECTION, ONE OF THE METAL CONNECTOR PINS (MALE AND FEMALE) WAS DISCOLORED (BLACK) DUE TO HEATING WITH SOME DISTORTION AND DISCOLORATION OF THE CONNECTOR BLOCK DUE TO HEATING. ATTACHED WIRE ALSO DISCOLORED DUE TO HEATING. *TR
I OWN A 2004 HONDA CRV AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SEAT BELTS FOR OVER 20,000 MILES. BOTH FRONT SEAT BELTS LOCK WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT AND WILL NOT RETRACT UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN UNFASTENED AND PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT AND RE-INSERTED INTO THE BUCKLE. AT WHICH POINT IT HAPPENS AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND ALL THEY DO IS LUBRICATE THE BELTS AND SAY THEY "CANNOT RE-PRODUCE THE PROBLEM." I ALSO CALLED AMERICAN HONDA COMPANY TO FILE A COMPLAINT, AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING IF THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T RE-PRODUCE THE PROBLEM. WHICH IS BULL, AS I BROUGHT THE SERVICE WRITER OUT AND SHOWED HIM EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. NOW THE SRS LIGHT IS ON THE DASH INDICATING THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH EITHER THE SEAT BELT TENSIONERS AND/OR AIR BAGS. I AM HOPING WHEN I BRING IT IN AGAIN THIS WEEK THEY WILL ACTUALLY REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS. NOT ONLY IS THERE SUPPOSED TO BE A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE SEAT BELTS, BUT IT IS A VERY OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEITHER AMERICAN HONDA OR THE DEALERSHIP IS WILLING TO ADDRESS UNLESS THERE IS NOT A PROVEN PROBLEM WITH THE TENSIONERS, THE DEALER GETS STUCK PAYING THE LABOR TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT BEFORE THE SRS LIGHT IS LIT, INDICATING SEAT BELT TENSIONER FAILURE, BEFORE THE PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED? (IT TOOK OVER 20K MILES BEFORE MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON TO INDICATE THE PROBLEM I KNEW EXISTED). *TR
2004 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH A/C UNIT BLOWING WARM AIR.*TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE AIR COMPRESSOR WAS BAD. *JB
THE GAS OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING THE TANK. IT LITERALLY FOUNTAINS OUT OF THE TANK. THE GAS RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR ONTO THE TIRES AND BRAKES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK OF FIRE WHEN THAT GAS HITS HOT BRAKES. I SEE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON VARIOUS WEBSITES, INCLUDING HONDA'S SITE. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2004. I HAD NO PROBLEM FOR A YEAR. THEN SUDDENLY THE GAS OVERFLOWED ONE DAY WHEN FILLING THE TANK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. OVER THE NEXT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS THE GAS OVERFLOWED SPORADICALLY, PROBABLY 3 OR 4 TIMES OVER FIVE YEARS. I ALMOST ALWAYS USE MARATHON GAS. I DON'T OVERFILL THE TANK. WHEN THE PUMP CLICKS OFF, I TYPICALLY WAIT A SECOND, AND THEN REMOVE THE NOZZLE. I WILL PUT THE NOZZLE BACK ON THE PUMP AND THEN TURN TO PUT THE GAS CAP ON, AND SPORADICALLY, I FIND THE GAS LITERALLY FOUNTAINING OUT OF THE TANK. IN JUNE OR JULY 2009, IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON A VERY HOT DAY AND I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED. I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY INFORMED ME THAT A VALVE, INTEGRAL TO THE GAS TANK, HAD GONE BAD AND THAT THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THAT WAS DONE. ALL WAS FINE FOR THE NEXT 20 MONTHS. BUT JUST LAST WEEK, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I AM VERY, VERY CONCERNED ABOUT A POSSIBLE FIREBALL HAPPENING BECAUSE THE GASOLINE FOUNTAINS OUT OF THE TANK, RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, HITTING THE TIRES AND BRAKES, AND THEN POOLS ONTO THE GROUND. I'VE HAD PROBABLY A HALF LITER OF GASOLINE FOUNTAIN OUT LIKE THAT. PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY HAZARD. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK IT WOULD BE SAFER FOR ME TO HAVE MY CHILD OUTSIDE OF THE CAR WHEN REFUELING THIS VEHICLE. IT'S TRULY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM. BOTH LOWBEAM HEADLIGHTS BOTH STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. I REPLACED BOTH BULBS BUT THEY STILL DID NOT WORK. NO FUSES HAD BURNT OUT, SO STARTED TO RESEARCH. AFTER CHECKING ONLINE, I OPENED THE PLASTIC CASING TO THE STEERING COLUMN, AND FOUND THAT THE SWITCH HAD BURNED AND THE PLASTIC MELTED. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE WIRING ON THE PART OF HONDA, OTHERWISE THE FUSE FOR THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD HAVE BURNED OUT BEFORE THE SWITCH COULD HAVE. I FIND THIS TO BE A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS IS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE AND INFANT SON. UPDATED 12/12/11 *BF UPDATED 12/13/11 *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVERS WERE VERY CLOUDY AND AFFECTING VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 6/4/12 *CN
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V EX WITH ALMOST 69K MILES. I HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED MY CAR TO THE GILLS AND JUST YESTERDAY MY A/C COMPRESSOR BLEW UP, LEAVING METAL SHARDS ALL THROUGH MY AC LINES. THE PULLEY AND CLUTCH (AC CLUTCH) WERE ALSO DESTROYED, LEAVING ME WITH A 2100 DOLLAR ESTIMATE. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS THAT IT IS HAPPENING A LOT IN THE 2002-2004 MODELS. I HAVE ALSO READ THAT THEY KNEW THE PART WAS FAULTY AND STILL CONTINUED TO INSTALL IT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THE PART HAS SINCE BEEN REDESIGNED. I HAVE ONLY GOTTEN AN ESTIMATE, I REFUSE TO PAY FOR THIS DAMAGE WHEN IT IS CLEARLY HONDA'S FAULT. THERE HAS BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THIS PROBLEM AND IF I CAN FIND A WAY TO ADD MY NAME, I WILL DO IT. LACK OF AC CAN LEAD TO HEATSTROKE AND OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS. ALSO, THE AC IS NEEDED IN THE WINTER FOR THE DEFROSTER, AND I CAN CLEARLY SEE A FOGGY WINDSHIELD LEADING TO ACCIDENTS. HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND OWN UP TO THE FACT THAT THIS PART/PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
MY A/C COMPRESSOR EXPLODED AT AROUND 47,000 MILES SENDING SHARDS OF METAL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COOLING/HEATING SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ABOUT $3000 TO REPAIR. THAT IS NOT A CASE OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE PART IS FAULTY. IT EXPLODED. HONDA SAYS IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT, SOMETIMES PARTS WEAR OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE AIR CONDITIONER FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED A FAULTY AIR COMPRESSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPAIR THE AIR COMPRESSOR. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY HOT DURING WARM WEATHER AND THE LACK OF AIR CONDITIONER MADE IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
SRS AIRBAG LIGHT SUDDENLY LIGHTS UP WITHOUT APPARENT REASON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING 3 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO A BRICK WALL. THE AIR BAGS THEN DEPLOYED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION AND INJURIES TO THE KNEE. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS PLACE OF RESIDENCE AND BEING HANDLED THROUGH HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,326.
HONDA CRV 2004, AC DEFECTIVE, 82,000 MILES JUST QUIT WORKING. *TR
AIR COMPRESSOR FAILURE AT 100,000 MILES ON 12/22/10 AFTER THE TOTAL A/C UNIT WAS REPLACED ON 9/24/07 INCLUDING EXPANSION VALVE, CONDENSOR, EVAPORATOR, COOLING FAN, AND COMPRESSOR AT 75,265 MILES. THIS IS MY SECOND A/C UNIT THAT DIED. *LN
SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON 2004 CRV. THE SWITCH IN THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BUCKLE WAS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS INOPERATIVE DUE TO FAILED SWITCH. BUCKLE MUST BE REPLACED. WARRANTY READS "A SEATBELT THAT FAILS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY IS COVERED FOR THE USEFUL LIFE OF THE VEHICLE". HONDA WILL NOT ACCEPT WARRANTY CLAIM, SINCE IT IS AN SRS SYSTEM FAILURE. *TR
LETTER FROM CONGRESSWOMAN GIFFORDS ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH HER HONDA 2004 CRV (ATTACHMENTS NOT IMAGED) *TGW THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR CONDITION UNIT FREEZING, THE ENGINE BLEW SPARK PLUGS INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD, THE PROPELLER PROTECTION SHAFT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE AT TIMES AND THE HOOD RELEASE LATCH FAILED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. *JB
STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THROTTLE STUCK AT FULL SPEED. PUMPED ACCELERATOR TO NO AVAIL. APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE AND, LITERALLY, STOOD WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES. ENGINE STILL RACED AT FULL SPEED, AND I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE. RIVER ON MY RIGHT AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON MY LEFT. SAW A LARGE, OPEN YARD AND DROVE THE CAR AT HIGH SPEED INTO THE YARD AND TURNED OFF THE KEY. WHEN TURNING THE ENGINE BACK ON, IT STILL RACED AT FULL THROTTLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NOT DEPRESSED. HAD CAR TOWED HOME AND EVALUATED BY INDEPENDENT (NOT HONDA) MECHANIC. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS "CARBON BUILDUP IN THE THROTTLE BODY." EMERGENCY BRAKE AND REGULAR BRAKES COMPLETELY RUINED DURING THIS INCIDENT AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. TWO GRANDCHILDREN IN VEHICLE WITH ME. EVERYONE TERRIFIED, BUT NO ONE HURT OR INJURED. REPAIRS QUOTED AS VERY EXPENSIVE, PLUS THE COST OF NEW BRAKES. DID NOT WANT TO EVER DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN AND DISPOSED OF IT FORTHWITH. ROUTINE GOOGLE SEARCH UNCOVERED SIMILAR INCIDENTS WITH THE 2004 AND OTHER YEAR CRV'S.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA CRV WHEN SOMEONE RAN A RED LIGHT. I HIT THE GAS AS HARD AS I COULD AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING TO RED LINING EVEN AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I HIT THE BRAKES AND THEY SEEMED TO BE TRYING TO WORK BUY THEY DIDN'T STOP THE CAR OR EVEN SLOW ME DOWN. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULD NOT TURN. I IWAS ALMOST HIT TWICE AS I HAD TO GO THROUGH A LIGHT. I HEADED TO A EMPTY BUILDING. I FIGURED I WOULD HAVE TO CRASH MYSELF TO KEEP FROM KILLING ANYONE. WHEN I TURNED TOWARDS THE BUILDING I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINALLY. THE CAR STILL RED LINED IN PARK. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AND THEY HAD TO FIX THE COVER OVER THE THROTTLE. IT HAD SLIPPED DOWN AND THE THROTTLE CAUGHT ON IT. TOWING NUMBER IS 330-995-2385 HONDA TOLD ME NO RECALL ON 2004'S BUT HEARD ABOUT THE HONDA 2005 HYBRID AND THAT WAS ACTUALLY WHAT I WENT THROUGH. GAS STUCK AND NO BREAKS, IT WAS THE MOST FRIGHTENING THING I EVER WENT THROUGH. IT ALSO HAPPENED TO THE MECHANIC WHO TEST THE CAR AND THEN FIXED IT. I ASK HONDA TO REPORT IT AND THEY TOLD ME TO REPORT IT TO AMERICAN HONDA BUT I DECIDED AFTER THE WAY THEY ACTED TO REPORT IT TO YOU. I COULD BEEN KILLED OR KILLED SEVERAL FAMILIES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
WHILE DRIVING, CAR BEGAN MAKING LOUD WHINING NOISE. THEN A LOUD BANG, AND SOME BIG PIECE OF METAL FELL OFF THE CAR ONTO THE ROAD. AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED BLOWING COLD. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE PART THAT FELL OFF WAS THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. ENTIRE SYSTEM MUST BE REPLACED AT GREAT COST. WE HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2004 HONDA CR-V'S AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING ON THE AFTERNOON OF 9/24/10. THE AIR BLOWING OUT SEEMED TO BE WARM. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT A LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO INSPECT THE A/C FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING, 9/25/10. THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE LOWER PANEL A/C COMPRESSOR AND SHOWED ME A HOLE THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE A/C COMPRESSOR "EXPLODING" OUTWARD. THERE WERE A FEW METAL SHARD PIECES LEFT IN THE PLASTIC PANEL THAT COVERS THAT AREA OF THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BUT HAD NEVER SEEN IT. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, HIS PARTS SUPPLIER SAID THAT THEY HEAR OF THIS OFTEN. BOTH BELIEVE THERE IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THE COMPRESSORS. DUE TO THE WAY THAT THE A/C SYSTEM IN THE HONDA IS SET UP, THE ENTIRE THING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY MY MECHANIC WAS GENEROUS WITH HIS COSTS AND LABOR CHARGES. IT COST $1313.52 TO FIX. I CHECKED ONLINE FOR A RECALL AND CALLED HONDA AMERICA. THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL BUT I FOUND AN ONLINE DISCUSSION THREAD WITH BETTER THAN 900 COMMENTS OF FOLKS WHO ALL HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THEIR HONDA CR-V A/C COMPRESSORS. I SHOULD MENTION THAT I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT MY CAR HAS 160,000 MILES ON IT. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO OCCUR AT VARIOUS MILEAGES. IN SOME CASES, THE METAL SHARDS THAT BLOW OFF OF THE COMPRESSOR CAN EITHER SLICE INTO THE TIRES OR MAKE A HOLE IN THE OIL PAN. I GUESS I WAS "LUCKY" IT DIDN'T DO MORE DAMAGE. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS A HONDA CERTIFIED VEHICLE IN OCT 2007, WITH 47,250 MILES. ON SEPT 7, 2010, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER (WHO DRIVES THE VEHICLE AT COLLEGE) HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE THEN THE AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN BLOWING JUST HOT AIR. UPON HEARING THE CIRCUMSTANCES, I TOLD MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME FROM COLLEGE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AS A BLOWN A/C COMPRESSOR. WE HAD THE REPAIRS COMPLETED IN ONE DAY AT COST OF $757.00 AND MY DAUGHTER WAS BACK AT COLLEGE THE NEXT DAY. THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED BUT THE MECHANIC WILL ONLY HOLD IT FOR ONE WEEK. *TR
JUST PULLED OFF FREEWAY WHEN I HEARD A WHISTLING NOISE AND THEN A LOUD KATHUNK. THE AIR CONDITIONER IMMEDIATELY STOPPED PUMPING COLD AIR. WENT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAD BEEN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THEY ADMITTED IT WAS A KNOWN HONDA PROBLEM BUT STATED THAT HONDA WASN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. QUOTED ME $1,200 AND SAID I WAS LUCKY THAT IT HADN'T CONTAMINATED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY AND THE AIR CONDITIONER INDEPENDENTLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NEED REPLACING. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

ON MY 2004 HONDA CRV THAT I HAVE METICULOUSLY CARED FOR, STARTED HEARING CLUNKING NOISES, THEN THE A/C WAS NOT WORKING. THE AIRPORT HONDA DEALER (KNOXVILLE, TN) SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE 2 FANS FOR $460 (USING NON-HONDA PARTS) AND I HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR FOR 3 DAYS FOR ANOTHER $131. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT A/C PROBLEMS ARE COMMON ON CRVS. MY CAR IS WAY PAST WARRANTY. BUT I THOUGHT HONDAS WERE SUCH GOOD CARS. I THINK IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THEN THEY SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM FOR LOW OR NO COST. *TR
2004 HONDA CRV - AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR STOPPED WORKING. MADE LOUD POPPING NOISE. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD YOU COULD SMELL SMOKE. I NOTICED SPARKS AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE AC COMPRESSOR. I BOUGHT THIS CRV NEW IN 2004 AND HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS. 2004 CRV: AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF PROBLEM-FREE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, WE HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND SOME CLUNKING/RATTLING NOISES COMING FROM BENEATH THE CAR (SOUNDED LIKE WE RAN OVER SOMETHING AND IT WAS BOUNCING AROUND UNDERNEATH BUT THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD). SOUND CEASED FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN A FEW MORE CLUNKS/RATTLES BEFORE SOUND CEASED AGAIN. THEN WE NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NO LONGER WORKING. ALL INDICATORS WERE ON, FAN WAS BLOWING, BUT AIR WAS NOT COOLED. SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED SEVERAL YEARS AGO (APPROXIMATELY 2005-2006) WHILE OUR CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, ALTHOUGH IT WAS A MORE GRADUAL FAILURE, NOT QUITE AS CATASTROPHIC AS THIS EVENT. DEALER MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT METAL SHARDS GETTING BLOWN INTO THE AIR COMPRESSOR AND FIXED IT UNDER WARRANTY. WE HAD NO IDEA AT THE TIME THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM OR THAT IT MIGHT RE-OCCUR. CAR WAS JUST SERVICED AND HAS ~60K ON IT. GIVEN THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HONDA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE HAVE REPORTED TO HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA AND ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE CASE MANAGER. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE US TO INSPECT AND EVALUATE CAR. IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, MAKE HONDA PAY UP! DON'T LET THE DEALERS INTIMIDATE YOU AND MAKE YOU THINK IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. *TR

THE COMPRESSOR BLOWS AND CAUSES HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF $'S TO BE FIXED. CURRENTLY THE CAR IS AT A BODY SHOP WHO TOLD ME I GOT LUCKY AND THE REPAIRS WOULD ONLY AMOUNT TO $835 BECAUSE THE PART ALONE IS $550. CONTACTED HONDA AMERICA AND THEY BASICALLY LAUGHED AT ME AND SAID GOOD LUCK. VERY IRRITATED, BUT AFTER THE REPORT OF SO MANY HONDA'S BEING RECALLED IN THE PAPER YESTERDAY I SEE WHY THEY HAVEN'T YET RECALLED THEM FOR THIS ISSUE. ALTHOUGH I WASN'T STRANDED LIKE SOME PEOPLE REPORT ENGINE LOCKING DOWN FROM THIS BECAUSE WHEN THE COMPRESSOR BROKE IT BROKE THEIR TIMING BELT AND RADIATORS, IT IS STILL VERY FRUSTRATING AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN EXTREME HEAT WITH NO WARNING YOUR AIR WILL BE OUT AND HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR

AIRCONDITIONER QUIT WORKING. THOUGHT WAS JUST LOW FREON-WAS SHRAPNAL IN MY VEHICLE FROM THE UNIT DISINTEGRATED. WAS TOLD LUCKY I DIDN'T DRIVE ANY FURTHER OR THE SHRAPNEL WOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE ENGINE, SEIZED IT UP, POSSIBLY CRASHING IN THE PROCESS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HONDA KNOWS IS HAPPENING. IT COST ME ABOUT $1600.00 TO REPAIR, SOMEONE IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AFTER LOSING THE AIRCONDITIONING BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT FROM IT CRASHING. *TR

SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR FOUR AND A HALF HOURS. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP IN ORDER TO HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRED AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE NEEDED A COMPRESSOR AND AIR CONDITIONER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE COMPRESSOR HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR $2,646.23. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,612 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 133,652.

THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE ROAD GOING 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HEARD LIKE A EXPLOSION SOUND AND IT MADE US SCARED AND MADE US NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT WE HAVE PUT 3 COMPRESSORS TOTAL. 2 COMPRESSOR ALONE AND ANOTHER COMPRESSOR WITH THE WHOLE THINGS LIKE FANS, RADIATOR,FOR AIR CONDITIONER HOSE,ETC, EVERYTHING. VERY COSTLY AND REGARDLESS IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM NOT WORKING. I DON'T KNOW IF ITS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE I THINK IF IT MAKES THAT EXPLOSION SOUND THAT STUFF COMES OUT TO THE AIR. HONDA ERRORS ARE COSTING THE CONSUMERS A LOT OF MONEY IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND FIX AND REFUNDED IF POSSIBLE. I BROUGHT THIS CAR IN 2006 AND WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. PLEASE IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE SO THAT HONDA FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS BLACK DEATH ISSUE THAT'S WHAT THE COMPLAINERS AND MECHANICS ARE CALLING IT.
