TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE SRS WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SRS SENSOR WAS NOT RESPONDING AND COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT TO FAIL IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,200. UPDATED 12/26/13*LJ
SUDDENLY, WHEN BRAKING, THE PEDAL WENT ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKING WAS EFFECTED BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AFTER SOME TROUBLE SHOOTING DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE BRAKE PROPORTIONING VALVE AND BRAKE LINES THAT HAD GOTTEN SO RUSTY HERE IN VERMONT AND DUE TO ITS DESIGNED EXPOSURE THAT THEY FAILED.ALL AT ONCE, NOT GRADUALLY. THE AGENCY THAT REPAIRED MY DAMAGE SAID THAT A 2003 CRV FAILED THE STATE INSPECTION DUE TO RUSTY FRAME DAMAGE. THE NHTSA SHOULD SPECIFY THAT BRAKE LINES AND FITTINGS SHOULD BE MADE OF STAINLESS OR BRASS. I HAVE HEARD STORIES FROM MANY SAYING THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V. I HAD MY AC ON AND IT BEGAN TO GRIND. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY MOTOR, BUT SOON REALIZED IT WAS MY AIR CONDITIONER UNIT. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. COST FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC - $106.00 COST TO FIX IT: $4000.00 DIAGNOSIS:A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED. ALL THE A/C PARTS ARE INTERNALLY CONTAMINATED WITH METAL FROM THE COMPRESSOR. NEEDS A/C KIT (C) AND CLUTCH AND COIL. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING ONLINE AND MANY 2003 AND 2004 HONDA CRV'S HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. I DON'T HAVE THAT MONEY TO SPEND, YET NEED AIR CONDITIONING. IS THIS FAIR FOR HONDA TO IGNORE THIS ISSUE AND COST THEIR FAITHFUL CUSTOMERS SO MUCH MONEY WHEN THIS PROBLEM DID EXIST IN THOSE YEAR MODELS? CAN YOU HELP? *TR
AC COMPRESSOR STOPPED WORKING. HONDA DEALER SAID THE COMPRESSOR IS CRACKED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE POWER DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO LATCH AND UNLATCH WHEN BEING ACCESSED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE POWER DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT FUNCTION WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
THUNK NOISE FROM ENGINE ON PASSENGER SIDE. WORSE WITH TURNING, HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AT ALL SPEEDS. DEALER SAID "SOMETHING" WAS NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY, MUTTERING ABOUT ENGINE MOUNT. I WAS NOT GIVEN A SERVICE RECORD FOR THE REPAIR AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET ONE AFTER THE FACT. AT THE SAME TIME HEAR A GRINDING NOISE THAT WAS NOT RESOLVED. CR-V AT REPAIR SHOP NOW AND SAID IT LOOKS AS IF AIR COMPRESSOR, CLUTCH AND FANS FOR AC ARE NOT RIGHT. IF NOT RESOLVED WILL BLOW AND DAMAGE ENGINE. I HAVE SEARCHED AND FOUND THIS IS AN ALARMINGLY COMMON PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY MOVE TO INVESTIGATE OR INITIATE A RECALL? *JS
NOT AN ACCIDENT. JUST CONCERNED THAT THE SAME PART HAD TO BE REPLACED IN JULY 2011 AND AGAIN IN AUGUST 2013, AND AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE DRIVER'S WINDOW BECOMES INOPERABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND TAILGATE DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE HORN NO LONGER WORKS. THE FUSE FOR THE HORN HAS BEEN CHECKED, AND IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE COVER FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE, SIMILAR TO HONDA'S SEATBELT COVERAGE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 55 TO 60 MPH ON THE FWY. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN I SAW 2 CARS THAT WERE AT A DEAD STOP IN MY LANE WAY AHEAD OF ME, THEY JUST SAT THERE SO I HIT MY BRAKES HARDER & MY BRAKES LOCKED UP. MY CAR THEN WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND I TRIED MY BEST TO CONTROL IT. I DID MANAGE TO KEEP MY CAR FROM ROLLING. MY CAR WAS GOING BACK AND FORTH ON 2 WHEELS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE PASSENGERS SIDE. I WAS ALSO SPINNING AND FISHTAILING AND THE BACK END OF MY CR-V (PASSENGER SIDE) HIT THE BACK END OF THE DRIVER SIDE OF A SEDAN IN THE #3 OR #4 LANE. THAT IMPACT SENT MY CR-V STRAIGHT INTO THE CEMENT CENTER DIVIDER OF THE FREEWAY. I HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER HEAD ON AND WENT UP AND IT FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO GO OVER IT ONTO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY BUT MY CR-V CAME BACK DOWN RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CENTER DIVIDER WITH THE SMASHED UP BUMPER FACING THE CENTER DIVIDER. MY CR-V HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER HARD ENOUGH FOR MY BODY TO BEND THE STEERING WHEEL BACK. NOT ONE OF MY 4 AIR BAGS WENT OFF. I HAD THIS CR-V IN THE HONDA DEALER 14 DAYS EARLIER TO REPAIR THE AIRBAG RECALL (I HAVE ALL OF THE PAPERWORK DETAILING THIS) I HAVE PICTURES OF THE INJURIES FROM HITTING AND BENDING THE STEERING WHEEL. I ALSO CHIPPED 3 TEETH. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE AIRBAG SENSOR AND THE BENT METAL AROUND IT. THE CHP OFFICERS, TOW TRUCK DRIVER, THE PERSON THAT I HIT AND THE BODY SHOP PERSONNEL ALL HAVE THE SAME QUESTION THAT DO; THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF, WHY DIDN'T IT AND WHY WAS I INJURED? I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. HONDA HAS HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF CR-V, YET THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT THEM. THE SEAT BELTS, & THE AIRBAGS DEFINITELY MALFUNCTIONED. I HAVE HAD 2 OTHER SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES LOCKING UP ON ME AND I THINK THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES OR WHEELS. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS W/ANY OF MY 4 HONDAS PAST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW COULD NOT BE CLOSED. IN ADDITION, A BURNING ODOR WAS EMITTED FROM THE WINDOW AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT INQUIRED OF A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V486000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , VISIBILITY). THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND THAT THE WINDOW SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
THE SRS DASHBOARD LIGHT STAYED ON WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE HONDA DEALER ON 2/18/2013. THE DTC CODE READ BY THE TECHNICIAN WAS DTC 15-2 (FAULTY SIDE AIRBAG INDICATOR CIRCUIT). THE OPDS UNIT (OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM) WAS REPLACED ON 2/25/2013. PER THE HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 06-009, THE VEHICLE VIN NUMBER WAS OUTSIDE THE VIN NUMBERS FOR THE 2004 CR-V'S ELIGIBLE FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IN THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. ON 6/6/2013 THE SRS DASHBOARD LIGHT AGAIN STAYED ON WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND WAS RETURNED TO THE HONDA DEALERS. THE MILEAGE WAS 110,242. THE DTC CODE DETECTED WAS THE SAME CODE AS THE PREVIOUS VISIT, DTC 15-2. THE OPDS SENSOR WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY AND IT WAS REPLACED ON 6/28/2013. SINCE THE LAST VISIT TO THE HONDA DEALER, THE SRS LIGHT HAS NOT STAYED ON PERMANENTLY. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW FROM THE HONDA DEALER IN 2004. *TR
UPDATE TO JULY/2013 COMPLAINT REGARDING SRS LIGHT COMING ON PERMANENTLY. 9/11/13 SRS LIGHT CAME ON PERMANENTLY AGAIN. DTC 15-2 CODE. THE HONDA DEALER REPLACED THE SRS CONTROL UNIT ON 10/1/13. MILEAGE 114,126. I HAVE THE OLD SRS CONTROL UNIT IN MY POSSESSION. 10/21/13 SRS LIGHT COME ON PERMANENTLY AGAIN. 11/4/13 HONDA DEALER RESET THE SRS LIGHT. DTC CODES WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE DTC 15-2. MILEAGE 114,925. NO CHARGE BY DEALER. 11/24/13 SRS LIGHT CAME ON PERMANENTLY AGAIN. HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS A SHORT IN ONE OF THE WIRING HARNESSES TRIGGERING THE DTC 15-2 CODE. DEALER RESET THE SRS LIGHT. NO CHARGE FOR 4 HOURS OF WORK. DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE ME ANY PAPERWORK ON SERVICE VISIT. MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 115,437 AT TIME OF VISIT. THE DEALER TECH SUGGESTED I CLEAR THE CODE WITH A CODE READER UNTIL IT WOULD NO LONGER CLEAR RATHER THAN BLINDLY REPLACING AT THIS TIME THE 4 WIRING HARNESSES TO LOCATE THE SHORT. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE HEAD LIGHTS BURNED OUT PREMATURELY, AND HE HAD TO REPLACE THEM SEVERAL TIMES. UPDATED 01/29/14
UPDATE TO THE JULY 2013 AND DECEMBER 2013 VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINTS (NHTSA ID NUMBERS 10523929 AND 10555723 RESPECTIVELY) CONCERNING THE SRS DASHBOARD LIGHT COMING ON PERMANENTLY WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND RESULTING IN THE SHUT OFF OF THE SIDE AIRBAG. IN APRIL 2014, THE SRS LIGHT WITH THE DTC 15-2 CODE CAME ON PERMANENTLY AND WOULD NOT CLEAR WITH MY CODE READER. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE HONDA DEALER ON 5/27/2014. THE MILEAGE WAS 121,133. THE HONDA TECH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED PRINTED CIRCUIT IN THE DASHBOARD GAUGE CONTROL MODULE AFTER BEING UNABLE TO CLEAR THE SRS DIAGNOSTIC CODE. A NEW GAUGE CONTROL MODULE WAS INSTALLED ON 6/16/2014. I RETAINED THE OLD PART. SO FAR THE SRS DASHBOARD LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON PERMANENTLY AGAIN. UPDATED 08/18/14
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL FREQUENTLY WHERE THE BULB REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SRS UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
2004 HONDA CRV. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL NOTICES CONCERNING LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT AND AIRBAG INFLATOR. *TGW THE CONSUMER SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE TWO RECALLS NOTICES HE RECEIVED IN THE MAIL. HOWEVER, WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE WORK NEEDED AT NO CHARGE. THE DEALER STATED HONDA WOULD NOT ABSORB THE COST FOR THE AIR BAG RECALL, BUT THEY WOULD INSTEAD. THE AIR BAG RECALL, WAS PERFORMED BUT THE HEADLIGHTS CAMPAIGN WAS NOT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE REASON FOR HONDA NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE RECALLS, WAS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT AND WAS DEEMED TOTALED, BECAUSE THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE WITH OEM HONDA PARTS AND REPAIRED IT BACK TO OEM SPECIFICATIONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH AND CRASHED INTO A DEER. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. 2004 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE POWER WINDOWS. HE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 9.5 HOURS, AND WHEN HE RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, IT WAS AFTER DARK, SO HE DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING, THAT THE POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH UNIT WAS LOOSE, NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND WAS ELEVATED OUT OF ITS NORMAL HOUSING BY 3.8 INCH. IT WAS NOT SEALED WITHIN THE DOOR AS SECURELY AS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE SWITCH STILL APPEARED IMPROPERLY SEALED AND BULGED UP FROM THE DOOR HOUSING. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE RECALL REQUIRED THAT THE POWER MASTER SWITCH BOX BE STUFFED WITH INSULATION AND THEN THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT NEEDED TO BE FORCED BACK INTO THE BOX TO PREVENT WASTER FROM LEAKING INSIDE. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE REASON FOR THE RECALL WAS BECAUSE WATER COULD CAUSE THE WIRES OF THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT TO SHORT-CIRCUIT POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE AND HE FURTHER STATED THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT WOULD NOT FIT AS IT DID BEFORE THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED STUFFING THE POWER MASTER SWITCH UNIT HOUSING WITH INSULATION AND FORCING IT BACK INTO POSITION SO THAT IT WAS NOT SEALED AS SECURELY AS IT WAS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS NOT SAFE. THE SWITCH UNIT IS NOW MORE PRONE TO WATER EXPOSURE, SHORT-CIRCUIT AN FIRE. THE CONSUMER STATED HONDA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE ENTIRE POWER MASTER SWITCH INSULATED IN ITS BOX AS A SINGLE WATERPROOF-SEALED UNIT.
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY SEAT BELTS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY ARE WORKING AS DESIGNED. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HONDA WOULD AGREE SEAT BELTS THAT DO NOT RECOIL WHILE THEY ARE ON YOU DRIVING AND SEAT BELTS THAT KEEP YOU FROM BREATHING ARE DESIGNED THAT WAY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. THEY ARE HOW THEY ARE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JANUARY 2004. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FRONT SEAT BETS INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT RECOIL WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST ALWAYS AFTER RELEASING THEM TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONCERN IS IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT THEY MIGHT NOT ENGAGE. SOMETIMES I CANNOT GET THEM TO ENGAGE BY MANUALLY PULLING ON THEM WHILE IN THE CAR. THE REAR SEAT BELTS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY TOUCHY. NOT HAVING ANY KIDS AND RARELY HAVING BACK SEAT PASSENGERS THIS PROBLEM WASN'T NOTICED. RECENTLY I RODE IN THE BACK SEAT AND EVEN SLIGHTLY BREATHING WOULD MAKE THE BELTS RE-TRACK TO THE POINT YOU CAN NOT EVEN BREATHE OUT. AGAIN THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. WROTE TO HONDA 9/28/2012 REQUESTING THEY REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS AND CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. *TR
WHILE DECELERATING ON A HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP, I HEARD A LARGE WHIRRING NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THEN A LARGE BANG FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED BY A THUMPING NOISE WHICH STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND ENDED BOUNCING UNDERNEATH THE BODY OVER SEVERAL SECONDS. STOPPED THE CAR AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND ON THE ROAD, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY BELTS OR MATERIAL. TOOK THE CAR INTO A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE AC WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE ESTIMATE TO FIX WAS OVER $4300 FOR THE COMPLETE SYSTEM WHICH OVER $3000 WAS IN PARTS. THEY INFORMED ME THE BANGING NOISE WAS THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH LOCKING THEN FLYING APART SENDING PIECES THROUGH OUT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF A THOROUGH INSPECTION OF THE REST OF THE ENGINE OR BODY FOR DAMAGE FROM THE FLYING DEBRIS OF THE BROKEN COMPRESSOR CLUTCH. THE DEALER INDICATED THE ALIN HONDA CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS NOT SETTLED AND COULD NOT GIVE ESTIMATES OF POSSIBLE PAYMENTS. *TR
MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH ON DRIVER'S DOOR STARTED TO BURN AND I COULD SEE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE SWITCH. THE RESULT WAS A MELTED SWITCH. I HAVE A JAPAN MADE 2004 HONDA CR-V WITH VIN # STARTING WITH JHLRDXXXXXXXXXXXX. BY LOOKING AT THE STATEMENT FROM AMERICAN HONDA, MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL REGARDING THE POTENTIAL OF FIRE AT THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH. WHAT CAN I DO? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR BUT IT'S NOT INCLUDED BY THE RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL THAT WAS RELATED TO A DEFECTIVE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAITED TWO MONTHS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS AND STATED THAT THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS HAD ALREADY BEEN SURPASSED. MY AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER EXPLODED. I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND AT FIRST HOT AIR WAS COMING THROUGH..THEN NOTHING. TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER IN MANASSAS AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER EXPLODED AND THERE WERE SMALL METAL PIECES THROUGHOUT THE LINE. THEY WANTED OVER $4000 TO REPAIR IT. THEY LATER COUNTER OFFERED TO FIX IT FOR $2600. AFTER I DID RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CRV'S 2002-2004. I WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE CONDENSER COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARING A DAMAGE AND DEFECTIVE PIECE OF MACHINERY THAT WAS INSTALLED BY HONDA. THIS IS MY CAR THAT I NEED SO THAT I CAN CONTINUE TO SERVE MY COMMUNITY AS A VOLUNTEER AND AS A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING, WITHOUT WARNING I HEARD A LOUD "METALIC" NOISE THAT SOUNDED AS THOUGH I HAD RUN OVER SOMETHING. AS I WAS SEEKING A PLACE TO TURN OFF OF THE ROAD, THE SOUND STOPPED FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN RETURNED. AT THAT TIME, I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND HAD DIFFICULTY PULLING OFF TO A SIDE ROAD THAT I FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET FROM WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I NOTED THAT THERE WAS A CHUNK OF METAL PROTRUDING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. WHEN THE CAR WAS FINALLY TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR HAD EXPLODED! I UNDERSTAND WEARABLE PARTS BREAKING BUT EXPLODING! I WAS WITHIN A MILE OF APPROACHING AN ON-RAMP TO A 3-LANE HIGHWAY AND SHUDDER TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE EXPLOSION OCCURRED ON THE INTERSTATE! BEYOND THE INCONVENIENCE AND COST (APPROACHING $2,000), THIS TYPE OF CATASROPHIC INCIDENT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. RECENT (MAY 15, 2012) REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY TO MY 2004 HONDA CRV BY HOEHN HONDA IN CARLSBAD, CA HAS CREATED WITHIN 5 MILES OF DRIVING A SEVERE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THE "IDLE" SPEED IS NOW 2,800 RPM. THE CAR ACCELERATES AND TRIES TO OBTAIN A SPEED THAT MATCHS AMOST A 3,000 RPM LEVEL. A DRIVER WITH LESS THAN MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COULD EASILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS IN ITS REPAIRED CONDITION BY THE DEALER.

THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN TO 50 MPH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HIS FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DURING THE FAILURE. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY HAD A REPRESENTATIVE PICK UP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN THE REPRESENTATIVE OPERATED THE VEHICLE. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HE DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE PROPER DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 182,200.

I TOOK MY 2004 CR-V TO HONDA DEALER FOR LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WIRING TO BE REPLACED UNDER RECALL. I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE PART AND WILL CALL WHEN THEY GET IT. FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS WE HAVE HAD THREE (3) MAIN ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE, 1) AIR BAG SRS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON, 2) THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL DOWN AND 3) THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM HAS NOT OPERATED. FROM THE BEGINING I HAVE CHECKED ON RECALLS/ CAMPAIGNS FOR THESE ITEMS AND THE ONLY RECALL WE RECEIVED FOR THIS VEHICLE VIN # WAS THE AIR BAG RECALL (BTW WE TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECAL AND THE SRS LIGHT IS STILL ON). WHEN YOU LOOK ON HONDA'S WEBSITE TO CHECK FOR RECALLS NO OTHER ISSUES COME UP WITH MY VIN#, YET IF YOU LOOK THE VEHICLE UP BY THE MODEL AND YEAR, A WHOLE LIST OF "CAMPAIGNS" COME UP UNDER THIS VEHICLE. MY VEHCILE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE SAID MAKE AND MODELS FOR YEARS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AMERICA (CASE # 04205532) THIS MORNING AND SPOKE WITH "SERINITY" OF THE PRODUCT CONCERN SECTION OF HONDA AMERICA AND BASICLLY SHE IS TELLING ME BECAUSE MY PARTICILAR VEHCILE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JAPAN (VIN # STARTING WITH A "J") THAT NO RECALLS APPLY TO ME. BUT YET I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE OF THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR. HONDA BASICALLY HAS STATED THAT THEY CANNOT OFFER ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER. PLEASE NOTE, THERE ARE OTHER SAFETY "CAMPAIGNS" THAT I NEVER GOT NOTICES, SUCH AS WIRING HARNESSESS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A NON-DEALER MECHANIC FOR AIR-CONDITIONING SERVICES AND THEY STATED TO ME 2 + YEARS AGO THAT THIS VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO HAVE A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE AC CLUTCH ON THE AC PUMP WAS DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE AND THUS HEATS UP AND SHATTERS INTO MANY PIECES AND FLOWS THOUGH THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM THUS REQUIRING THAT THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED (HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN # 12-072). HONDA HAS ISSUED A CAMPAIGN INCREASING THE AC SYSTEM WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS/ 100,000 MILES, BUT AGAIN THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE, YET I HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES ON MY VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP ON THIS MATTER.
I WAS GOING TO DRIVE TO WORK THIS MORNING AT 6:30AM AND MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON. MY HIGH BEAMS WORKED FINE BUT MY NORMAL LIGHTS DID NOT. I HAD NOTICED A BURNING ODOR A FEW DAYS PRIOR THROUGH MY VENTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC THIS MORNING AND THE HEADLIGHT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION AND THE WIRES HAD BEEN MELTED THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT MY LOW BEAMS STOPPED WORKING AND I COULD SMELL SMOKE. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO JUST ALL OF THE SUDDEN HAVE YOUR LIGHTS GO OUT. I COULDN'T SEE AND OTHERS COULDN'T SEE ME. I TURNED OFF THE LIGHT SWITCH, AND THE SMOKE SMELL DISSIPATED. MY HIGH BEAMS STILL WORKED. I GOT ONLINE AFTER THE INCIDENT AND REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT ALONE WITH THIS EXACT TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ISOLATED BY SEVERAL OTHER CR-V OWNERS AS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM INVOLVING THE WIRING HARNESS THAT PLUGS INTO THE HEADLIGHT/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. IN ADDITION, I FOUND AN ARTICLE STATING THAT THE NHTSA HAS OPENED AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM (NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER EA11012) . A CALL TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP RESULTED IN A VERY EXPENSIVE QUOTE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HARNESS (SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS). I FEEL THAT THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND THAT HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 12/19/11 *BF *TR

MEASURED ZERO VOLTAGE AT BULB CONNECTION FOR LOW BEAMS. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN ON THE FORUMS MANY OWNERS OF 2002-2004 EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. IT IS RELATED TO WIRING AT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN CONNECTION OVERHEATING.
