Just bought this used and am already having transmission issues. Happy to have it available for an inspection. My safety, the safety of their drivers and that of my passengers is put at risk frequently. The engine shudders at certain speeds under40. In order to remedy that it is necessary for me to take my foot off the gas with no warning of brake lights. I haven’t taken it to a Honda dealer yet but after I bought this CRV a month ago I learned they are rank with transmission issues. There is no warning in any way, shape or form other than the sudden shuddering which can range from a gentle shudder to one that feels like the car is falling apart. I don’t know when this issue started but may be why it’s been sold via private sale several times.
My vehicle mobile assist light came on it will not go off it is preventing my car from accelerating and stalls when I do try to accelerate
FAULTY VTC ACTUATOR, GRINDING NOISE ON STARTING THE CAR EVERYDAY IN THE MORNINGS
CAR WAS PARKED AND BURST INTO FLAMES FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS NO ISSUES WITH CAR. SOME BUILDING DAMAGE FROM FIRE. CAR TOTALED, ENGINE BLOCK MELTED FROM FIRE.
WHILE DRIVING, WHEN I STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE LIGHT, VSA LIGHT, AND THE ! WARNING LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND AFTER THAT WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR WILL BARELY RESPOND AND FASTEST IT WILL GO IS 10 MPH! I LITERALLY HAVE TO PUT ON MY HAZARDS AND WAVE CARS BY THEN FIND A PLACE I CAN STOP MY CAR, TURN IT OFF, RESTART IT, THEN THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE GONE AND I CAN DRIVE AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES IN THE PAST ONE MONTH. I TOOK TO A MECHANIC & HE STATED I NEED TO REPLACE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR & V-TEC SOLENOID. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
MY SUV WILL INTERMITTENTLY WON'T START. I HAVE A NEW BATTERY, AND THE STARTER AND ALTERNATOR ARE GOOD. I CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHEN I AM ON THE SHOP. SO HE SHOP CANNOT FIX IT. I CHECKED THE GOOGLE SITE AND THERE WERE NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH HONDA CR-V.
TRANSMISSION MODULE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON (CHECK ENGINE, CHECK BATTERRY, CHECK TIRES ETC). SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TRIED TURNING IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE CRANKING BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE RICK CASE HONDA DEALER WHERE MY CAR HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED. AFTER HAVING MY CAR CHECKED FOR A WHOLE DAY I WAS TOLD THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THE HONDA SVC ADVISOR TOLD ME THE CAR HAD OVERHEATED AND THAT'S WHY THE ENGINE BLEW. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THE CAR NEVER OVERHEATED BC THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER WENT PAST THE NORMAL TEMPERATURE. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR I SPOKE TO THE SHOP FOREMAN AND HE TOLD ME A METAL PIPE THAT HOLDS THE COOLANT HAD CRACKED AND ALL THE COOLANT LEAKED OUT AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND BLOW. HE COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT CAUSED THE METAL PIPE TO CRACK. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED I WAS TOLD THAT THE METAL PIPE THAT CRACKED WAS WORN OUT AT A SPECIFIC SPOT AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE METAL PIPE TO CRACK. I TRIED CALLING THE HONDA DEALER TO EXPLAIN THIS BC NOT TOO LONG BEFORE MY CAR HAD SOME HOSES REPLACED IN THE SAME AREA WHERE THE METAL PIPE WAS LOCATED BUT THE DEALER AND CORPORATE HONDA SAY I HAVE NO PROOF THAT THE WORK THEY DID PRIOR WAS WHAT CAUSED THE FRICTION TO THE METAL PIPE LEADING IT TO CRACK. I EXPLAINED IT WAS ODD THAT THE REST OF THE METAL PIPE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT THAT ONE SPOT WHERE THE CRACK WAS BUT THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN. HAD I NOT PULLED OVER WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON AND I KEPT DRIVING ON THE HWY WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME OR OTHERS ON THE HWY. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BUT HONDA STATES NOT ENOUGH PPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS.
THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING SOUND AND THE AIR CONDITIONER, WHICH WAS ON AND WORKING GREAT, STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN VERY COMMON ON HONDA CR-VS. FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND THE FOUR DIFFERENT FAILURE MODES THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE AC COMPRESSOR EXPLODED OR IMPLODED AND COULD HAVE LEFT SHARDS OF METAL ON THE HIGHWAY I WAS DRIVING ON. TWO OTHER FAILURE MODES OF THIS PROBLEM INCLUDE THE CLUTCH AXLE SHAFT SHEARING AND THE CLUTCH ITSELF MELTING. AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT WORKING. MY HUSBAND FOUND A VIDEO REGARDING THIS MODEL YEAR & MAKE WHICH SAID THAT HONDA HAD A RECALL GOING ON FOR THIS PROBLEM. CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, COULDN'T GET IN TILL JULY 13. WENT AWAY FROM THE PHONE FOR A LITTLE BIT, THE DEALER CALLED BACK & LEFT A MESSAGE TO SAY MY CAR ISN'T INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL FOR AIR CONDITIONING AND I CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. AFTER CHECKING NUMEROUS SITES I'VE REALIZED MY ORIGINAL CONTENTION IS CORRECT, THIS IS DEFINITELY AN ENGINEERING FLAW FROM HONDA AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY THEM AT LITTLE (MAYBE FOR COOLANT REFILL) TO NO CHARGE, JUST FOR THEIR POOR DESIGN.
THE A/C COMPRESSOR UNIT HAS FAILED AND HONDA KEPT THE RECALL QUIET NOW MY VEHICLE HAS GONE JUST OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY COVERAGE REPAIR WINDOW THIS UNIT HAS A DESIGN FLAW AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE GIVEN A NO LIMIT ON THE REPAIR LIKE THEY DID WITH THE WINDOW ACTUATOR I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT RECALL ONLY HAPPENED DUE TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. *TR
I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WANTED TO MOVE TO ANOTHER ONE. I PUT CAR IN GEAR AND AS I STARTED OUT I HEARD THE ENGINE REV VERY LOUD AND CAR LURCHED FORWARD. I APPLIED BRAKES AND PLACED THE CAR IN PARK. ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING HIGH. I TURNED OFF ENGINE AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. CAR SEEMED TO BEHAVE NORMALLY AND I DROVE HOME (ABOUT 1 MILE). I CALLED A HONDA DEALER SERVICE NUMBER AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO CALL BACK BUT DID NOT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE SERVICE AT ANOTHER DEALER (DCH HONDA OF PARAMUS). I SPOKE TO AN [XXX] WHO TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FOR ANY 2008 CRV'S. I WROTE AN E-MAIL TO HER TO DOCUMENT THE PHONE CONVERSATION THEN CALLED ANOTHER INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO, PERIODICALLY, WHILE DRIVING (30-45MPH) WE WOULD HEAR AN UNUSUAL WHIRLING NOISE IN THE MOTOR; NOT HARSH BUT MORE A PURRING SOUND. THE NEXT TIME WE DROVE THE CAR WE WOULD NOT HEAR IT. IT CONTINUED BUT SPASMODICALLY. THEN IN NOVEMBER WE BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING THE ENGINE. WE HAD A NEW BATTERY INSTALLED BUT AGAIN, PERIODICALLY, BOTH THE WHIRLING NOISE AND NO ENGINE TURNOVER. YESTERDAY, AFTER MAKING A QUICK STOP BEFORE GOING TO WORK, WE HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK CO. WHO ALSO CHECKED THE BATTERY (NOW LESS THAN A MONTH OLD AND CHARGING PERFECTLY). WE ARE NOT CERTAIN OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE NOISE AND THE FAILURE TO START. *TR
THE AIR CONDITIONING GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE ~85F. THIS HAPPENED MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY UNTIL THE SYSTEM STOPPED PUTTING OUT COLD AIR ALTOGETHER. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CR-VS, AND HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH TO 100,000 MILES. A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THIS AS MY PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENED 4,000 MILES OVER THE EXTENDED LIMIT FOR WARRANTY SERVICE. *TR
AC COMPRESSOR /CLUTCH IS BROKEN, NO COLD AIR, ONLY HOT AIR BLOWING FROM AC. EXPENSIVE TO FIX. HONDA NEEDS TO REPLACE THIS FREE OF CHARGE!! I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE POORLY PLACED AC COMPRESSOR. *TR
THE AIR COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $700. THERES WAS NOT EVEN 100,000 MILES ON THE CAR YET WHEN THIS HAD TO BE DONE. *TR
A/C STOPPED WORKING. TOOK INTO MECHANIC AS I THOUGHT THE IT NEEDED RECHARGED. INSTEAD, THE A/C AND CLUTCH HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $1300. HAD TO TAKE BACK TO THE MECHANIC AS IT STILL WASN'T WORKING A 2ND DAY. THEY RECHARGED AGAIN. IT STOPPED WORKING THE 3RD DAY, AND THE COMPRESSOR RELAY WAS REPLACED. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. *TR
IN LINE WITH THE RECENT MAZDA RECALL FOR YELLOW SAC SPIDERS FOUND IN THE EVAC CANISTERS, MY HONDA CR-V HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS AFFECTED HONDA ACCORDS IN THE PAST BECAUSE HONDA HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON INSTALLING A SPECIAL FILTER FOR HONDA ACCORDS TO PREVENT THE SPIDERS FROM ENTERING. HOWEVER, NO SUCH BULLETIN OR PART EXISTS FOR THE HONDA CR-V. AS SUCH, AFTER PAYING NEARLY $100 AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE AND REMOVE THE SPIDERS, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS CAN'T HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THEY DID NOT ADD A FILTER TO PREVENT SPIDER RE-ENTRY. AT THE MINIMUM, THESE SPIDERS WITH THEIR RESULTANT WEBS CAN SEVERELY LIMIT GAS MILEAGE. AT THE WORST, A FIRE OR ENGINE FAILURE CAN RESULT. I PETITION THAT HONDA ISSUE A RECALL FOR HONDA CR-V'S AND COVER THE LABOR AND PARTS COSTS FOR PLACING A SPECIALIZED FILTER TO PREVENT SPIDER RE-ENTRY. *TR
AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF INTERMITTENT AIR-CONDITIONING (COOLING) FUNCTION, THE AC COMPRESSOR FAILED. DEALER MECHANIC REPORTS THE COMPRESSOR COIL FAILED (MELTED?). CONDITIONS AT THE TIME WERE HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES (CA. 90-100 DEGREES F). I'M FILING THIS REPORT TO CORROBORATE NUMEROUS ONLINE ACCOUNTS OF SIMILAR FAILURES IN NEWER MODEL HONDA CR-VS WITH 50,000-60,000 MILES OF USE. *TR
