TAKATA RECALL: I PURCHASED A 2009 HONDA CR-V IN FLORIDA IN JANUARY FOR MY DAUGHTER, JUST PRIOR TO THE RECALL BEING RELEASED. SHE HAD TO RETURN TO SCHOOL IN TEXAS WITHOUT THE CAR SINCE IT WAS UNSAFE FOR HER TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP IN FLORIDA WILL NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR FOR HER IN TEXAS BECAUSE THE HONDA IS IN FLORIDA. I HAVE NO MEANS TO GET THE HONDA TO A TEXAS DEALERSHIP AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SO WE ARE STUCK WITH AN UNDRIVEABLE CAR, AND MY DAUGHTER HAS NO TRANSPORTATION. WE WERE TOLD THE AIRBAG COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNTIL "SUMMER". IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFFECTING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS THE DOOR FAILED TO UNLOCK INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
ALL OF THE WINDOW AND DOOR SEALS ARE MELTING. IT STARTED LAST SUMMER. WHENEVER I ROLL MY SIDE WINDOWS DOWN AND UP THE BLACK RUBBER HAS MELTED AND IT LEAVES BLACK STREAKS ON MY WINDOWS. THE RUBBER STARTED TO FLAP IN THE WIND FROM UNDER THE METAL SEALS ON ALL FOUR DOORS OVER A YEAR AGO. MY RUBBER SEAL AROUND MY WINDSHIELD IS ALSO MELTING. I WASH MY CAR AND CANNOT DRY THE TOP ANY LONGER DUE TO THE RUBBER MELTING ONTO THE PAINT. THE SUNROOF AND BACK HAVE NOT STARTED YET. I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL NEW CARS PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE HONDA -NEW. I'VE ALSO PURCHASED 3 USED CARS BEFORE, I'VE KEPT CARS OVER 15 YEAR ; NONE EVER HAVE HAD THE RUBBER SEAL MELT. MY HUSBAND WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC "THAT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM".

WE GOT HIT MY ANOTHER CAR IN THE REAR OR SIDE.WE ENDED UP ON THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY WITH THE DRIVER SIDE ON THE GROUND. THE PASSENGER CURTAIN AIR BAGS INFLATED ALONG WITH OTHER PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS.THE ONLY AIR BAG TO INFLATE ON DRIVERS SIDE THAT WAS ON THE GROUND WAS THE ONE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. WE HAD TO CLIMB OUT OF THE PASSENGER DOOR,WHICH WAS ON THE TOP NOW. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORTED (WE SMELLED SMOKE) AND WE COULD NOT OPEN THE MOON ROOF. WHY DIDN'T THE CURTAIN AIR BAGS INFLATE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE? THIS SIDE OF THE CAR WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND. THE DRIVERS DOOR WAS AGAINST THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THERE WAS ONE INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT SUFFERED FROM WHIPLASH, NECK STRAIN, LOWER TO MIDDLE BACK PAIN, LOWER RIB PAIN, AND SOFT TISSUE DAMAGE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TAKATA RECALL. THIS RECALL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND, AS OF TODAY, APPARENTLY HONDA STILL DOES NOT "HAVE A REMEDY". THE AIRBAGS ARE A THREAT OF DEATH TO OWNERS, INCLUDING IN THIS CASE MY 20 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THE CAR IS NOT SAFELY USABLE UNTIL THE AIR BAGS (OR INFLATORS)- FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER - ARE REPLACED. FAULTY DOOR LOCK ON DRIVER PASSENGER SIDE (LEFT SIDE). WHEN LOCKED, THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH THE ELECTRIC BUTTON. ADDITIONALLY, NONE OF THE OTHER DOORS WILL UNLOCK EXCEPT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT. YOU MUST MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DRIVER PASSENGER DOOR TO OPEN UP THE OTHER DOORS.
WE HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN THIS CAR AT LEAST 9 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING IT IN 2010. TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR AND THE BULBS JUST BURNT OUT AGAIN WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TODAY IN THE DARK. WE HAVE PURCHASES OEM, AFTERMARKET, LONG LIFE ETC WITH THE SAME RESULT. THE CAR WAS MOVING THIS TIME WHEN THE LIGHTS BURNED OUT. THIS VEHICLE IS MOSTLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 100 MILES A DAY, WHICH IS WHERE MY WIFE WAS TODAY, AT APROXIMATELY 70 MPH. THE 2002-2004 CR-V HAD A RECALL AND THIS ISSUE IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET BUT THERE IS ZERO RESOLUTION. EVERY DEALERSHIP I CALL SAY THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS, WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING THE INFORMATION OUT ON THE WEB. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE.
MY WIFE'S SISTER IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR. SHE COULD NO LONGER DRIVE SO WE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM HER IN ABOUT JUNE OF 2015. IT HAD 11,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. WE NOTICED THAT THE BREAK PEDAL STARTED GOING ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR TO FRONTIER HONDA IN COLORADO WHERE WE LIVED AT THE TIME. THIS WAS REPEATED A NUMBER OF TIMES AS THE PEDAL CONTINUED TO START GOING NEAR THE FLOOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE REPAIR ATTEMPT. THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG AND WE ENDED UP PAYING FOR THE TROUBLESHOOTING MULTIPLE TIMES. WE MOVED TO OHIO IN JUNE OF 2018 AND IN OCTOBER FOR 2018 WE TOOK IT INTO MATT CASTRUCCI'S AUTO MALL OF DAYTON (HONDA 937-434-4723) WHERE AGAIN WE HAD TO PAY FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. IT HAD 66,278 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. EACH TIME WE TOOK IT IN THE TROUBLESHOOTING INCLUDED A BLEED OF AND INSPECTION OF THE BREAK SYSTEM AND EACH TIME THE PEDAL WOULD GO BACK TO NORMAL RANGE OF MOTION. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME, ESPECIALLY IN COLD WEATHER, THE PEDAL WOULD GO DOWN CLOSER TO THE FLOOR. THE LATEST TIME WE TOOK IT IN TO MATTS HONDA DEALERSHIP THEY DETERMINED THE ANOMALY IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART WITHIN THE ABS PORTION OF THE BREAK SYSTEM WHICH WOULD COST OVER $2000 TO REPAIR. MATT CALLED AND MENTIONED THAT HE WAS INFORMED THAT SOME CARS GOT EQUIPPED WITH THE DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER MATT CHECKED WITH HIS REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE HE CALLED TO INFORM US THAT HONDA WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. IF IT HAD LESS MILES ON IT THEY WOULD BUT AT SOME TIME THE OWNER NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REPAIRS. THE PEDAL WOULD START GOING NEAR THE FLOOR AFTER THE CAR SAT UN-DRIVEN ESPECIALLY WHEN COLD OUT. THE CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. THE BREAK PEDAL IS STILL GOING ALMOST TO WHERE IT IS TOUCHING THE FLOOR, AND MY WIFE WILL BE IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE PART.
TOOK CAR INTO DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD STEERING RACK IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1500.00. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS GARAGE KEPT. HONDA WOULD NOT DO A THING. BUYERS OF CR-V BEWARE.
THE BACK HATCH DOOR DOES NOT OPEN EVEN IF THE OPEN BUTTON ON THE KEYCHAIN REMOTE IS PRESSED THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF TIMES. EVEN THE BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WILL NOT OPEN THE HATCH DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR IS TO PRY OFF A SMALL PANEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HATCH DOOR AND PRESS A LEVER. THERE IS NO EXTERNAL WAY OF OPENING THE BACK HATCH DOOR. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR HAZARD ESPECIALLY IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE HATCH DOOR IS THE ONLY WAY OUT. IT IS UNLIKELY THAT ANYONE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A TOOL OR MAYBE TIME TO PRY OFF THE INSIDE PANEL TO ACCESS THE LEVER TO OPEN THE HATCH DOOR IN AN EMERGENCY/ACCIDENT. ANYONE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE HATCH DOOR MANUALLY. OF COURSE, NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO SEE IF THE HATCH DOOR WOULD OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
I NO LONGER OWN THIS 2009 HONDA CR-V. I TRADED IT IN FOR MY 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY
DRIVERS DOOR LOCK STICKS AND SOMETIMES DOES NOT UNLOCK AND CAN'T EVEN UNLOCK MANUALLY. THEY DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR IS PERMANENTLY STUCK CLOSED, CAN'T UNLOCK MANUALLY OR WITH THE KEY FOB. BACK HATCH IS PERMANENTLY LOCKED CAN'T OPEN AT ALL BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK MANUALLY. THIS HAPPENS WEATHER THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT HOW AM I TO GET MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY AND QUICKLY. JUST RUN ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CAR UNTIL A DOOR OPENS? WHAT ABOUT MY DOG THAT I USUALLY HAVE IN THE BACK, HOW DO I GET HIM OUT? WHAT IF THE CAR IS ON FIRE OR IF THE CAR IS FLIPPED ON THE SIDE WITH THE WORKING LOCKS? IT'S CRAZY TO ME SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS IN MY VEHICLE YEAR YET THEY LEFT US OUT OF THE SETTLEMENT TO REPLACE THE LOCKS.
I APPLIED MY BRAKES APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT LOW SPEED. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD ALMOST NO BRAKES. I KEPT MY FOOT ON IT AND WHEN IT GOT AS FAR AS I COULD PUSH IT MY ENGINE ACCELERATED AT VERY HIGH RPMS. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN INTO PARK AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I HAD A TOW TRUCK COME AND PICK IT UP.
ON JULY 31, 2015, WHILE EXITING I-95 NORTHBOUND CROSSING FROM THE FLORIDA TO GEORGIA STATE LINE FROM HIGH DENSITY HIGH SPEED VACATION TRAFFIC, MY 2009 HONDA CR-V SERPENTINE (DRIVE) BELT SNAPPED. I IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER STEERING AND OTHER FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DRIVE SERPENTINE BELT. I WAS TRAVELING AT LEAST 45 MPH AS I HAD JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY; MY KNUCKLES WERE WHITE I WAS GRABBING THE STEERING WHEEL SO HARD TRYING TO ASSESS, AT HIGH SPEED AND WITH VEHICLES IN FRONT AND BEHIND ME GOING THE SAME SPEEDS, HOW TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. MY WIFE AND TWO YOUNG GIRLS WERE WITH ME AND I FEARED THAT ME AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY WERE BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION CLEARLY IDENTIFIED A FAILED AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR CLUTCH, THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF HONDA TSB 12-072 (SERVICE BULLETIN SB-10056005-7115), THAT MY VIN IS THE SUBJECT OF HONDA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY ASSOCIATED WITH TSB 12-072. THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH CAUSED THE COMPRESSOR TO WIND-UP/DAMAGE THE BELT WHEN IT COULD NOT TRAVEL OVER THE DRIVE WHEEL OF THE COMPRESSOR. THE ONLY WARNING WE HAD, IN HINDSIGHT, WAS WE LOST AIR CONDITIONING EARLIER IN OUR TRIP TO FLORIDA AND THE AC WAS BLOWING WARM AIR AND THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE COMPRESSOR AREA. MY ENTIRE FAMILY WAS TERRIFIED BY WHAT HAPPENED HERE - THIS SEEMS LIKE A DEFECT THAT PRESENTS AN UNREASONABLE RISK TO SAFETY AND SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY 1 MINUTE EARLIER, I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED AT HIGH SPEED BY CAR OR, WORSE, TRUCK. GIVEN THE NUMEROUS BLOG POSTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE TECH WHO SAID HE SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT CAN RESULT IN THE DRIVE BELT GETTING DESTROYED BY A FAILED AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH, IT SEEMS THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

AIR CONDITIONER DOES NOT WORK. BLOWS HOT AIR. DEALER HAS FIXED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. RECURRING ISSUE. LAST INCIDENT WAS 6/15/2015, DUE TO BE "FIXED" AGAIN.
LOCK ACTUATOR FOR PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK IS MAKING LOUD NOISE WHEN LOCKING DOOR. THIS NOISE IS IDENTICAL TO NOISE MADE BY PASSENGER FRONT LOCK ACTUATOR BEFORE FAILURE. REPLACEMENT OF PREVIOUS ACTUATOR COST ABOUT $400.00. THERE IS NO WAY TO LOCK DOORS TO SECURE VEHICLE WITHOUT ENERGIZING THIS ACTUATOR.

DROVE ABOUT 30 MILES IN RAINY WEATHER WITH THE WIPERS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE AT A STEADY SPEED, WHEN SUDDENLY I NOTICED THAT THE WIPERS WERE SLUGGISH. THEN THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO WORK BUT THEY WOULDN'T BUDGE. THE REAR WIPER WAS STILL WORKING. I PANICKED AS I THOUGHT I MAY HAVE ENGINE PROBLEMS. I HEADED FOR THE NEAREST EXIT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE CHECK, THEY SAID THAT THE WIPER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEFECTIVE WIPERS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD AS MY VISIBILITY WAS IMPAIRED WITHOUT THE USE OF FUNCTIONING WIPERS. HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT IS VERY COSTLY OVER $500. *TR
THE DOOR LOCK ON MY 2009 CRV DOES NOT WORK, NEITHER MANUALLY NOR WITH THE ELECTRONIC "FOB". I CANNOT GET INTO THE CAR. I WENT ONLINE ON EDMUNDS CAR FORUM AND NOTED THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH HONDA CRV. PERHAPS HONDA SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN THE WIPERS WERE ON DELAY AND TURNED ON COMPLETELY BY THEMSELVES. I TRIED TO TURN THEM OFF AND THEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I TURNED THEM BACK TO DELAY AND EVENTUALLY, THEY STARTED TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE INCIDENT RE-OCCURS FROM TIME TO TIME.
I OPENED THE AUTOMATIC GARAGE DOOR AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE. WHEN THE DOOR OF THE GARAGE OPENED THERE WAS A PLASTIC RECYCLE CAN IN THE MIDDLE OF WHERE THE CAR WAS TO BE PARKED. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AFTER PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK TO MOVE THE RECYCLE CAN. I HAD TO GO AROUND THE BACK OF THE CAR TO ENTER THE GARAGE AS A BUSH BLOCKED MY WAY INTO THE GARAGE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. AS I WALKED AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR I PUSHED THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR IN (THE ENTRANCE TO THE GARAGE IS TIGHT WITH THE MIRRORS IN THE EXTENDED POSITION). I WENT INTO THE GARAGE AND WAS PUTTING THE RECYCLE CAN AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME INTO THE GARAGE ON ITS OWN. I THOUGHT I COULD OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR HIT THE BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TOWARD ME AND I COULD SEE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO HIT AN EXTENSION IN THE GARAGE WALL WHERE THE POWDER ROOM WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE. I BACKED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER SIDE DOOR AS I HAD NO ROOM TO OPEN THE DOOR AND THE CAR CRASHED INTO THE EXTENSION OF THE WALL AND STOPPED. I WAS QUITE RELIEVED AT THAT POINT AS THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE CONTINUED INTO THE REAR OF THE GARAGE AND THROUGH THE WALL INTO THE LAUNDRY ROOM. I SURVEYED THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR AT THAT TIME AND DECIDED THAT WHILE SOME DAMAGE DID HAPPEN IT WAS NOT THAT MUCH AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL DRIVABLE. SOME MONTHS LATER WE TOOK THE CAR FOR A REPAIR ESTIMATE AND TO MY SURPRISE THE ESTIMATE WAS FOR ABOUT $1,900.00. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS MY FAULT AS I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK BUT DID NOT SET THE PARKING BRAKE AS THE WHOLE SITUATION WOULD NOT TAKE TWO MINUTES TO PUT THE RECYCLE CAN AWAY AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE. I WAS QUITE SHAKEN WHEN I SAW THAT THE VEHICLE WAS COMING INTO THE GARAGE BY ITSELF. THE DRIVEWAY SLOPES DOWN TO THE STREET AND I HAD BEEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 30 SECO. *TR

THE LOCKING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING. A WHITE VAN APPROACHED FROM THE RIGHT PARKING LOT OFF RT 100 THE DRIVER LOOKED RIGHT AND THE TRUCK DRIVER IN FRONT STOPPED SHORT FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC GOING SOUTH ON VT 100. THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF DRIVER WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO STAGECOACH ROAD.TOO LATE TO STOP, DRIVER HIT THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. DRIVERS VEHICLE WAS TOTALED THE DRIVER WAS WEARING SEAT BELTS BUT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN WHEN THE FRONT END WAS DEMOLISHED...UPDATED 11/12/14 *BF UPDATED 7/28/2015*JS *TR
THE VEHICLE WILL LOCK ITSELF WHILE SITTING IN THE GARAGE OR ELSEWHERE. IT HAS HAPPENED QUITE OFTEN BUT THIS PARTICULAR TIME I UNLOCKED IT WITH THE KEY FOB AND WALKED TO THE MAILBOX (ABOUT 60 FT) AND BACK AND IT WAS LOCKED. IT HAS DONE THIS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY, TOO.
