During the incident, the driver sustained a head injury that required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 210,000.
UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION - DRIVER EXPERIENCES SUDDEN ACCELERATION FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT MOVING THE GAS PEDAL CAUSING AN IMPACT. THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING JUST A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT. SOME ONLINE REPORTS HAVE SUGGESTED THAT A FAILING OR FAILED A/C COMPRESSOR MAY RESTRICT MOVEMENT FROM THE DRIVE BELT SLOWING DOWN THE ENGINE AND REDUCING POWER. I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN MY GAS PEDAL WENT DOWN ON ITS OWN AS IF I WANTED TO SPEED UP. A FEW MINUTES LATER IT DID THE SAME THING, BUT THIS TIME THE GAS PEDAL STUCK. I PUT MY 4-WAY FLASHERS ON, TRIED BRAKING AND PUT MY RIGHT FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL TO TRY AN "LOOSEN IT". IT FINALLY "UNLOCKED" AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. IT WAS NOT MY FLOOR MATS IN THE WAY EITHER, BECAUSE I CHECKED THAT. AFTER RESEARCHING OVER THE WEEKEND IT LOOKS LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN 295 HONDA COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO INVESTIGATE THIS AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED? A FEW YEARS AGO THE TOYOTA PRIUS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THIS. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK WITH THEM.
EXITING THE SMALL TO MODERATE SIZED PARKING LOT I WAS STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT. THIS IS A T INTERSECTION WHERE ONE MUST TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. AFTER THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO TURN LEFT WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED IMMEDIATELY TO ABOUT 50 MPH WHILE I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION, I MANAGED TO TURN LEFT. DESPITE VIGOROUSLY BRAKING, THE CAR CONTINUED AT WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN INCREDIBLE SPEED, IT FELT LIKE AN ACCELERATING RACE CAR. I HIT A TRUCK AND ANOTHER CAR SIDESWIPING THEM AS I TRIED TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AND PARKED CARS. THE CAR TRAVELLED APPROXIMATELY 1/5 OF A MILE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *JS
I WAS TRYING TO PARK MY CAR BACKWARDS. MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I COULDN'T CONTROL THE SPEED OF MY CAR. I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO STOP MY CAR. *TR
MY MOTHER WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VSA LIGHT (TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION POINT IN THE MIDDLE) CAME ON. SHE THEN STARTED TO HEAR A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE TIRES. THE LIGHT AND THE NOISE CAUSED HER TO REDUCE HER SPEED TO ABOUT 55. SHE DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES TO THE NEAREST PULL-OFF RAMP. SHE WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN, BUT AS SHE PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL FURTHER TO STOP THE CAR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT GO DOWN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. SUBSEQUENTLY, SHE ROLLED UP ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE AND HIT A LIGHT POLE, WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE. SHE DOES NOT NECESSARILY RECALL THE ENGINE REVVING OR ACCELERATING AS OTHER COMPLAINANTS HAVE REPORTED, BUT THE BRAKES CLEARLY DID NOT WORK AND THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME UNDETECTED ACCELERATION AS THE CAR CLEARLY NEEDED ENOUGH SPEED TO GO OVER THE CURB. NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 3500 MILES. SHE HAS HAD NO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH BRAKING. THE VEHICLE REQUIRES BODY WORK DUE TO THE COLLISION. HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETECTED NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. CLEARLY, THERE IS AN ISSUE AS A CURSORY SEARCH OF COMPLAINTS ON THE CR-V SHOW AT LEAST 2-3 COMPLAINTS PER YEAR ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH OTHER HONDA VEHICLES AS WELL. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND INSTEAD, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,335.
