On two different occasions, the automatic braking system engaged in an unprovoked circumstance. There was no accident that occurred, however, if a car had been following closely behind--we would have been rear ended. It also does create a stress/adrenaline rush and whips your head/neck due to the sudden nature of overly aggressive braking. In both instances, I was driving approximate 30 mph. There were no cars or obstacles in front of us that would have required the car to stop. In either instance, there was nothing that should have triggered the braking system. The car is available for inspection. I have not had it inspected. The first time it happened just seemed random. Within days of the 2nd incident, I learned of the investigation into the system. There are no warnings that come up or system alerts that anything is off. It is just the equivalent of slamming on the brakes, but your foot is on the gas. And then it recovers and returns to driving normally.
The dashboard and radio screen start to glitch, causing my steering wheel to lock up and making it complicated to turn. This hazard makes me feel unsafe for myself and others.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the emissions system warning message was displayed and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with emission system failure. The contact was informed that the emissions system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 9,800.
Automatic emergency braking system puts on the brakes and there would be nothing in front of me. Making my car slow down, I am afraid of getting hit from behind. The light flashed on dash. I took it to dealership they said I needed a new battery.
Vehicle was not running, and electrical components went haywire. Panic horn wouldn’t stop sounding, dashboard came on, all warning lights on. Brought vehicle to dealership and upon diagnosis, the BCM is faulty (body control module). In researching this, I found Honda had over 800,000 vehicle recalls for this particular issue, but my vehicle model was not part of this recall. I believe that it should. Case #12807731 was opened by me with Honda customer service for the issue. Currently, the part is backordered and not available until mid March. They informed me that I have to disconnect the battery when not in use and reconnect when I need to drive somewhere. My vehicle is just under 5 years old.
This vehicle equipped with a 1.5 L Turbo has fuel diluting the oil and causing stalling on occasion and acrid smells inside the vehicle. I changed my oil at 70% reaming life, but only 3,000 miles driven because the oil dip stick was 1/2 inch above above the full mark. The performance has downgraded and diluted oil can possibly cause a catastrophic engine failure while in operation. This has been going on since I have purchased the vehicle, but not to this extent. Honda has not recalled the vehicle, claiming it is not safety related, yet apprx 350,000 models were recalled in China for basically the same problem. I now will have oil samples tested from this time on to further verify my claim
On three occasions - most recently on May 22, 2022 - the emergency braking system stopped the car completely for no apparent reason. If there had been cars behind me, all 3 times would have cause collisions. Dealer service department would not acknowledge the problem, even though I explained I had read about other complaints. Vehicle has not been inspected for this specific issue. No warnings prior to the random failures

My 2017 Honda CR-V Gear Shifter Button popped out and fell apart. Luckily my car was not in motion on a busy freeway when this occurred otherwise it would have been very dangerous for my life and could have caused an accident. I see lots of reports of broken 2017 Honda CR-V Shifter Button on the internet so this is a well known problem that Honda must be made to fix for the poor quality product part that they have installed in their 2017 Honda CR-V car. Honda https://owners.honda.com/service-maintenance/recalls site does not show any recall/repair for my car's VIN which is surprising. Vehicle occasionally brakes without warning, with no vehicle ahead. Has happened dozens of times over the last 5 years.
On occasion, while using the Adaptive Cruise Control, the system will suddenly begin to brake or slow down without any obstruction being present. My sense of this over the past five years is that the system perceives a 'shadow,' typically from an overpass or a truck in the next lane, as an obstruction in front of my car. The braking is short-lived event and has not caused my car to come to a complete stop or caused an accident. I am reporting this now, due to the news stories about this issue with the CR V.
On multiple occasions, driving on a 5 lane road (2 lanes south, middle turn lane, 2 lanes north) at 45 mph in the right lane headed south, the auto brake system displayed "BRAKE" and auto brakes were applied to slightly slow the CRV. I did not apply the brake. There was nothing in front of me - clear road, no cars in front or behind me (thankfully), no debris, no people. I have not had Honda look at this and reported here due to it making national news regarding the potential issue.
System Failure: Fuel Emissions System Problem and all other warning lights are on. Safety: Cruise control does not function and automatic breaking does not function. Dealership: Yes, the problem was reproduced even after the spark plugs and rocket arm assembly were replaced inside the limits of the 6 year unlimited mileage warranty. The dealership acknowledged that 5 or 6 other customers were in with similar complaints this month. Others: an independent garage inspected the vehicle and confirmed that a warranty should cover this problem some 8 months ago. Indications are a weak cylinder may be the root cause of the fuel emissions system problem in addition to the fuel injectors and pipes. Warning lamps, messages and other symptoms were present prior to the failure and appeared well before the manufacturer's warranty expired. The dealership we purchased the vehicle from failed to locate the problem and did not repair when we first discovered the problem and brought the vehicle in for repair in 11/2020. We recently contacted Honda Corporation directly and they gave us a case number for reference while they review this complaint.
My car’s automatic emergency brake has engaged ~4x when there was undoubtedly nothing in front of me on the road. Luckily it has never engaged the brake long enough to cause a rear end collision which is way I didn’t report it earlier. I know you’re collecting reports for affected cars and mine indeed has done this before. I’m hopeful it won’t happen when more cars are around.
Bought new 2017 Honda CRV in 2017. Battery drain left me stranded at long term airport parking after 3 days of parking. I got it fixed at a Honda dealer with a TSB. Now battery dies and needs to be replaced about every 2 years. I've had to replace the battery 3 times already. This is unacceptable. Honda knows the battery size is insufficient.
Wire harnesses failed on both the driver and passenger side rear doors. These wire harnesses control the lock/unlock, window, and speaker functions of each door. The failure was premature cracking/breaking of the electrical wires controlling the aforementioned functions. There are two safety risks. One is the fact that the rear doors will not lock when either a) the vehicle accelerates and all doors automatically lock or b) the driver goes to lock the doors by engaging the lock function on the driver side front door panel. Related, the rear doors will not unlock when either a) the vehicle is set to Park or b) the driver goes to unlock the doors by engaging the unlock function on the driver side front door panel. In an emergency or other time sensitive situation, this would prevent timely egress from the vehicle (especially with children in the rear seats). The second safety risk is that the up/down functionality of the windows which would prevent either a) timely egress in an emergency or other time sensitive situation or b) temperature control via natural air flow. The components have been inspected by my mechanic and will be replaced with OEM parts at a somewhat significant cost including parts and labor. It has not been inspected by any other party. The symptoms first appeared about three months ago. Symptoms include a) doors not unlocking when vehicle is set to Park and b) windows not engaging (i.e. going up/down).
While driving my 2017 Honda CR-V I was shifting from park to drive & the button on the shift knob broke off & I couldn’t put it back in park. This is a serious safety issue with many complaints. Very disappointed there is not a recall on this issue yet.
Merging onto highway and car completely stalled. I almost got rear-ended by tractor trailer behind me. All warning lights went on. I shut down and restarted the engine and car will not go above 55mph. Dealer says one of my fuel injectors is bad so they all need replacing. This a huge hazard to anyone driving this vehicle due to faulty fuel injectors as many other owners have complained about which can lead to sudden stalling and vehicle collision.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the Forward Collision-Avoidance system activated and the brakes were applied. The vehicle then returned to normal operation. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated when the vehicle was started. The contact stated that the brake would malfunction intermittently. The local dealer was contacted however, the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle independently stopped with an orange-colored warning symbol on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance system had engaged while driving under a highway sign. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that an investigation had begun on the vehicle for NHTSA Action Number: PE22003 (Forward Collision Avoidance) which he linked to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Sticky steering while driving moderate to highway speeds while driving straight. Steering is not smooth as turn slightly from neutral straight position to keep staight driving line. Not noticeable whenever turn back and forth on corners. Stickiness only noticed while trying drive straight
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while parked at his residence, he went to change gears in his vehicle, and the gear shift was unable to shift. The contact stated that the piece that is attached to the gear shift had suddenly broken off The contact stated that he had to manually pair the broken peace to the gear shift in order to change gears. The contact stated that he contacted the dealer and he was advised that there were no recalls on his vehicle ,however there has been several complaints about the same failure on other vehicles, same year, make, and model. The contact stated he has not contacted the manufacture at this time. The contact stated he will be getting his vehicle repaired ,however he is concerned that he could experience the failure while driving the vehicle. The mileage failure was 40,000.
All my safety features lights turned on and they stopped working , I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the fuel injectors the suv is a 2017 80,000 miles on it , they told me my car isn’t covered under warranty my car is mixing the oil and gasoline and it’s driving rough
Fuel Injector failure Car appears to be on the verge of stalling. If this happens during driving, could cause an accident. Yes, dealer confirmed fuel injector failure Not been inspected by manufacturer Yes, for last several weeks car seems to hesitate once started or have trouble starting and also the entire car shakes for several seconds before settling down.
All warning lights on dash show up upon starting vehicle. Used to be intermittent, now constant. When lights are on, none of the safety or advanced driving features work--eg cruise control, lane keep assist, anti lock brake, parking brake. It has been taken to the dealership twice for this issue, and dealership has tried various things from replacing battery to updating software with no effect, costing hundreds of dollars and weeks of it being in the shop. From my internet search, this problem seems widespread and I do not feel safe driving without the safety features, ABS, etc.
Emergency braking system erroneously activated causing car to suddenly brake; no direct consequence at time however could easily cause accident; has not been investigated by any entity; no warnings prior to incident
I have experienced problems with this since December 2021. All warning lights start flashing with Hill start problem, brake system problem, brake hold problem, adaptive control problem, stability problem, TPMS problem, Road departure mitigation problem. These warning continue to cycle over and over. Once the warnings are cleared, there are no issues for a few weeks to a month, but it returns. This has occurred 5-6 times since December. I replaced the battery three weeks ago and the issue reappeared today, 27 Apr 22. While researching the issue, I discovered many Honda users experiencing the same issue. This is an issue Honda has to address this issue. I am the only owner of my vehicle which only has 39K miles on it.
While driving at 35 mph on street with no cars in sight, car went into "panic stop". Speed dropped to about 5 mph then resumed normal driveability. Only happened that one time. Stop was so severe that a following car would have crashed into me.
The shift button broke off the handle to control drive train and car was in drive. Could not turn engine off or shift to park.
Automatic system brakes even when no car or object is in front. Brakes for no reason Also the display screen goes berserk and goes completely black and car has to be restarted for screen to work
I was driving and suddenly, for no apparent reason, all of the hazard and warning lights started flashing. I received all of the following errors on the dash: "Emissions System Problem" "Brake System Problem" "Brake Hold System Problem" "Power Steering System (EPS) Problem" "Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem" "Hill Start Assist Problem" "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Collision Mitigation System Problem" "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem" "Keyless Remote Not Detected" "Electric Parking Brake Problem" "Tire Pressure Monitor Problem" I was then informed by the dealership that there was a software update that would solve the problem. After completing the software update, the error lights and flashing started again a couple weeks later. After taking the vehicle back to the dealership for further testing, it was advised that new fuel injectors are needed. I was appalled by this and took the vehicle to an independent auto repair shop and after more testing was advised again of needing new fuel injectors. This ultimately cost me $1500 and can't fathom needing new fuel injectors at 50,000 miles.
There have been two incidences in the last couple of months (Fall of 2021). Last one was 11/29/2021, while I am driving on surface street that the emergency brakes engaged without warning and jerked me to a stop. There were not cars directly in front of me that would have warranted a quick brake. Luckily there were no cars following closely behind me that would have hit my car since I suddenly stopped for no reason. Which would have resulted in an accident occurring. I’m not sure why the emergency brakes activated with no warning and for no apparent reason. The emergency brakes have not been inspected by manufacturer.
honda crv 2017 touring vehicle with 1.5 engine. On several occasions he has lost the acceleration force, he feels flooded, I had to stop at the side of the road, turn off the vehicle and turn it on again to be able to go to a safer place, I have already visited 2 authorized Honda drivers and my mechanic personal ! I have bought original parts and nothing to stop the problem. I have spent thousands of dollars changing the injectors, pipe set, manifold, throttle body, spark plugs ect. for two times now and this is my 3rd time and still the problem continues. I have been afraid to drive the vehicle because I am risking my life by not knowing when it might happen again, I do not drive with my children in fear, I have had to stop working because of everything that happens. I'm even thinking about changing my vehicle and never buying a Honda again
when starting the car, the display panel behind the steering wheel that displays the speed/tachometer, speed control info, general status etc was dark (blank) It came back on after about 10 mins on the road but then after turning the car off, then on it several times that day would not come back on. It happened to my wife on 21 and 22 November but after restarting the car the screen came back for her. I have not taken to dealer. that is scheduled for Tuesday next week
On at least two occasions, I have been driving at Interstate speeds in the Peoria IL and Danville IL metro regions, and the car has braked hard, with the warning of a forward collision imminent. In one instance I was driving west on I-74 at the east most end of the Murray Baker Bridge when the car break was applied automatically, reducing my speed by about 20 miles per hour while there was traffic behind me. No injuries. At the time I assumed it was the angle of the car going up the hill onto the bridge, and that the car detected the bridge structure above. In the other incident, I was driving in Danville IL with no traffic anywhere near me, and the car beeped, alerted that the forward collision was imminent, and the breaks were applied hard. It possibly reduced my speed 10 MPH or so, but was hard enough for my body to move forward. No cars around, no obstacles around. I had no idea what the vehicle detected. It was not raining or snowing, or anything like that at the time of either incident.
The adaptive cruise control was set on the highway. When an attempt was made to increase speed to pass a vehicle, the engine started chugging, the check engine light came on and the vehicle lost power. After, I was able to pull to the side of the highway, I turned the vehicle off. Restarted the vehicle and check engine light was no longer on and was able to proceed as normal.
Recently my 2017 Honda CRV started flashing these 3 warning 1. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 2. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem 3. Collision Mitigation System Problem. But once in quarter these warnings flash but after engine power off/On warning message goes away. Last week when I was driving on the Interstate Highway, All of sudden this warning flashed, after a while I stopped at a service station. Off/ On the engine but all of the 3 warnings didn't go off. From a safety point of view Cruise/Collision Mitigation/Collision Mitigation Control is very important on Highway. At-least these features prevent and keep you alert while changing lanes, apply proper braking system on the highway from safety measure. The vehicle has not been driven more than 42k miles in the last 4 years. Although the 3 year 36 miles standard warranty is already passed. Today when I went to the service center after diagnosticians they mentioned that the Cruise control sensor has failed due to these issues. Due to pandemic the supply chain is impacted and part is not available. So I ordered the part to the service center. The BRAKE SYSTEM light is also on. Similar issue occurred sometime in 2018 after purchase of the new car in 2017. Initially I informed this issue to the service center. Case no was open with Honda - Case # 06624477. But the issue was not able to be replicated, the service center people told me that the software is updated and that it is not going to flash again. Looks like these new generation cars start creating problems once it completes its life cycle of 3 years and 36k miles warranty period. At least going for a new car was for peace of mind, but looks like this went the other way for me. Last 6 month back I had to get repaired the complete Air conditioner unit, service center people mentioned that AC hose pipe has leakage.
I was driving on a city street with no vehicles in front of me or behind me. There was a patch of road that had a metal plate from construction (there was no active construction). Out of the blue and for no reason, the Automatic Brake light flashed and my CRV slammed on the brakes. If there had been a car behind me it would have hit me... if I had been on the highway and went over a plate it could have been tragic. Everything on my front passenger seat ended up on the floor. The CRV (which I own) is my daughter's car. I called Honda as soon as I got to my office to see if there was a recall and there was none. I am presently looking into how t turn this feature off.
While driving on the highway at 50 miles per hour, the tailgate opened by itself. The tailgate has opened by itself on five separate occasions, but three of them while the car was parked. Two of them while the car was moving. The first one at 15 mph and this second one at 50 mph.
While I was driving on the highway with cruise control on, the car kept slowing down because of shadow from car in the other lane.
MY REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. THIS POSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!!! ALSO THE TAILGATE ONLY OPENS ON OCCASION!
Corroded battery cables causing battery failure and electrical malfunctions. If left unchecked may have led to a fire
While driving through a construction zone at approximately 30mph my Automatic Emergency Braking system suddenly engaged and brought me to a complete stop. It seemed to be sensing a metal plate that was placed on the road in the construction zone to cover a hole. There were cars directly behind me and this very nearly caused a collision. Luckily the driver behind me was alert and reacted quickly enough. This is now the second time this has happened to me, both times with a metal plate on the road covering a hole. Very serious safety issue.
I was turning left onto another road at the same low speed as I have made this same turn at the same location many times before. The weather was dry and sunny. During the turn the brakes grabbed hold for no apparent reason. There were no other cars in front of me nor behind me. I have made this same turn subsequent to this event with no problem. The braking released on its own within 2-3 seconds. This car had about 70,000 miles on it when this occurred. If a car had been behind me, it is very likely I would have been rear ended.
I noticed the car lights flicker when the car was parked and when I would reverse the car into a parking spot the infotainment system would just shut off abruptly and the lights would extremely dim. I took it to a local mechanic to have it inspected. He suggested changing the battery and alternator. After changing the alternator and battery the car was unable to start 2 months later. It required a jump and needed was taken to the dealership. The dealership said it was a software issue and uprgraded/reprogrammed the vehicle. After the upgrade the car was still having drain issues the next day. This time the lights were flickering while driving and felt like it was sputtering at 72mph. The car is not safe to drive due to possibility of shutting down at any moment and the constant drain on the battery. Honda will not address the issue but will only suggest unneeded costly repairs (chaning the alternator). There is currently a class action lawsuit against HONDA regarding a parasitic drain on the battery. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!!!
I was driving and the car in front of me braked. My car suddenly slammed on the brakes and stopped. It was very scary, as it was completely unnecessary and I was not in danger of hitting the car in front of me. It almost caused an accident with the car before me that had to suddenly stop.
Last October I was driving home on a quiet 2 lane road with no apparent traffic at approximately 30th when out of nowhere the automatic safety BRAKE warning came on and my car stopped dead on the road. There were no other vehicles or animals visible in the area. I then traveled home without further incident.
Car shut off and there was no power. Battery was dead and I had to get a jump from a family member. This is the 6th or 7th time my battery has died. I've had it replaced 4 times and going for a 5th this weekend. I've had my car jumped multiple times by my father and i lost count really. There a well known parasitic draw issue which drains the battery, which causes component failure. This car is unsafe to drive.
For some unknown reason all the warning lights will come on in the instrument cluster. This includes all the safety features of the vehicle. When the lights are on none of the safety features work. This includes the emergency braking, lane keep assist, and the cruise control just to name a few. I have reached out to the Honda Corp. with no luck on getting the issue fixed.
vehicle stutters when cold, and strong fuel smell when operating vehicle. There were no warnings message, problems has not been confirmed by a dealer.
