Since purchasing my 2022 Honda HR-V in 2024, I have experienced ongoing unintended or “phantom” braking while driving at highway speeds with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and the Collision Mitigation Braking System activated. When a vehicle is traveling in an adjacent lane—most frequently on the right side—the dashboard displays an orange brake warning, and the vehicle abruptly brakes without driver input despite no obstruction in my lane. This issue occurs approximately four times per week, and the vehicle currently has about 75,000 miles. During each incident, I disengage adaptive cruise control using the steering wheel controls to regain manual control. Although no accidents or injuries have occurred, these sudden braking events have resulted in multiple near-miss situations and present a significant safety concern.
Subject: Safety Defect Report – Steering Wheel Lock-Up & Lack of Notification – 2022 Honda HR-V Description of Incident: I am reporting a severe, life-threatening safety defect regarding the steering system of my 2022 Honda HR-V. While driving, the steering wheel suddenly and unexpectedly locks up, making it nearly impossible to steer. This has occurred more than three times recently, with increasing frequency. Key Safety Concerns: •Sudden Loss of Control: The steering becomes rigid without warning, creating an immediate risk of a crash. This has occurred during each of my last three trips. •Lack of Manufacturer Notification: According to official NHTSA Recall 24V-744, the "sticky steering" gearbox recall includes certain 2022–2025 Honda models. However, I never received a recall notice for my vehicle. •Contradictory Information: My research confirms that the 2022 model year and the HR-V model are specifically named in the broad recall for this steering gearbox defect. Despite my vehicle exhibiting the exact "sticky" and locking behavior identified in the recall, I have not been contacted by Honda for the free repair. •Manufacturer Acknowledgment: Both my local dealer and Honda corporate have confirmed that 2023 and newer models are being recalled, yet my 2022 model—built within the same production window and using the same faulty supplier parts—is not being prioritized for service. Request for Action: I request that NHTSA investigate why 2022 HR-V models experiencing these dangerous failures were not included in the primary notification mailing. I urge NHTSA to ensure that all 2022 HR-V owners experiencing this steering gearbox failure are granted access to the free repair (gearbox or worm gear spring replacement) Google Search Yes, a significant "sticky steering" issue affecting nearly 1.7 million Honda and Acura vehicles from the 2022–2025 model years is being addressed through a massive NHTSA recall (Campaign 24V-744), initiated in October 2024. My transmission went before the car hit 100 thousand miles. It put me at risk because I was in the middle of the road and my car wouldn’t move. The problem was confirmed by the Honda dealer. There were zero warning signs before this happened.

I've been the only owner to this 22' Honda HRV and I have serviced it at the dealer 90% of the time. All oil changes, coolant flush, transmission services etc. done on time. I recently got it diagnosed at my local Honda dealer because it was starting to make a noise when you stepped on the gas. The noise started at about 95k miles and becomes louder as you increase the speed of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed it with an internal transmission failure. There were no warning lights or messages ever. No prior check engine lights on or mechanical issues prior to this. I am very disappointed with this vehicle. Hopefully this issue is looked into. I do not hope for this to happen to anyone with this vehicle.
On Sunday, 02/08/2026, I parked briefly to drop something off. When I tried to restart the car, it was clicking but would not start. An engine light came on, and a flashing message appeared saying “Park.” I initially thought it was a battery issue, but the warning light remained on. The next morning, the car started, but the engine was locked and the vehicle would not move forward or backward. I called the Honda dealer, and the technician advised me to tow and bring the vehicle in as soon as possible. I restarted the vehicle, and the message on the screen cleared and the vehicle was engaged. I then dropped the vehicle off at the dealership. After inspection, they told me the front passenger seat weight sensor needed to be replaced, which is very expensive ($1,300) When I researched the, Honda has already recalled their vehicles for this same issue, and I am not sure I need to pay all this money for something that is caused by an identified defect of the vehicle system. My car was impacted by the exact issue impacting Honda HRV's manufactured in 2022, but my VIN does not show that I am eligible. This is a mistake and I would ask NHTSA to investigate other 2022 HRVs which may be impacted by this recall (information posted below). Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2019-2022 model year HR-V vehicles. The power circuit in the display audio unit was improperly designed. When the engine is started with an ignition key, the cranking can cause the battery's state of charge to drop, which may prevent the display audio from booting up, resulting in the failure to display the rearview camera image. Additionally, vehicles previously repaired with the initial software update received a version that insufficiently corrected the display audio unit boot up procedure, resulting in the failure to display the rearview camera image. Safety Risk If the display audio unit does not boot up, the rearview camera image will not display, which may affect the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash or injury. Remedy Registered owners of all affected vehicles (including previously repaired vehicles) will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will reprogram the display audio unit with updated software containing the proper boot up procedure. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. While driving, multiple warning lights suddenly illuminated and the vehicle immediately lost power and became undriveable with no prior warning signs. I had to pull over for safety and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. The dealership diagnosed CVT belt deterioration and advised the transmission requires replacement. This sudden loss of drivability created a safety hazard because the vehicle became disabled while on the road.
I am reporting a transmission failure in my 2022 Honda HR-V at approximately 129,000 miles. While driving on the interstate highway at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly began revving excessively without accelerating. The engine RPM increased, but the vehicle failed to maintain proper speed or respond as expected. This occurred without any prior warning signs or indicators. Shortly after, the vehicle continued to have issues where it would shift into gear but not properly move or engage. All dashboard warning lights became illuminated following the incident. I took the vehicle to a dealership for diagnosis, and they confirmed that the transmission is failing. They reported finding metal shavings inside the transmission, indicating internal mechanical damage and premature wear. This sudden loss of power and inability to accelerate properly while driving at highway speeds created a serious safety hazard. The vehicle could have been rear-ended or caused an accident due to the unexpected loss of performance. A major component like the transmission should not fail in this manner, especially without warning, as it poses a significant safety risk to the driver and others on the road.
When I turned my car on, the airbag system (SRS) Problem light was on. I was worried if it was an airbag problem, or sensor problem, so I brought the vehicle in for inspection at two locations. The first location was an independent service center, in which I was told it was a sensor problem. They weren't available to repair or needed an appointment to thoroughly check the problem. Therefore, I made an appointment for the next day at a Honda dealership. I thought that my vehicle may have been a part of the safety recall from the service bulletin 24-036. Upon inspection and a partial diagnosis (they didn't took apart my vehicle near the wheel or touch screen/audio for the sensor underneath), I was told I had a sensor problem under the front passenger seat with the code error U3000-49. However, I was told that my vehicle was not covered under the safety recall. I'm afraid of whether my airbags will be working properly if the sensor isn't working. There was no warning lights, symptoms of problems, or messages prior to the sensor light turning on.
Car transmission went out
The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while attempting to have the front windshield replaced, the contact was informed that the independent mechanic was unable to replace the windshield due to an issue with the static and dynamic angling calibration. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who also experienced the same issues. The contact was informed by the dealer that six windshields had been used and each was defective. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 14,000.
I took my vehicle to a local Honda for an airbag light. Was told even though there is a recall on the 2022 HRV, my model is not included, but the exact issue I am experiencing with my vehicle is what is happened with the recalled 2022 HRV. I was told it would cost over $2000 to repair the air bag and since it has 60,000 miles it is no longer covered under the Honda warranty. Can this issue with the air bag be corrected or added to the recall for a free replacement/repair?
A catastrophic failure occurred in the continuously variable transmission (CVT) of a 2022 model year vehicle at approximately 81,000 miles. While driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power; the engine revved rapidly without transferring any power to the wheels. The failure was diagnosed by an authorized dealership service center (documented on Repair Order #349133). The diagnosis confirmed that the transmission failed due to an internal component breakdown, stating: "FOUND SEVERAL METAL DEBRIS FOUND WHEN DRAINING AND STRAINING FLUID." The manufacturer (American Honda) has since confirmed in writing that the root cause was a manufacturing defect, effectively acknowledging that the failure was not due to wear, tear, or maintenance neglect. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer. The component is available for inspection. This premature, total failure of a major powertrain component on a relatively new vehicle poses a safety risk due to the sudden loss of power while operating at highway speeds.
Vehicle lost power 3 times within a 3 month period, with inability to go above 40 mph on the freeway. Dates of loss of power are: 8/31/25, 9/14/25, 11/16/25 Safety is of grave concern due to loss of power and inability to drive over 40mph on freeway. Took into (2) dealerships three times and they were unable to diagnose issue. The vehicle has been inspected 3 times. This vehicle should be added to the recall listing as this is the same engine issue with losing power. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failures.
At 85,500 miles, the car stopped in the middle of am intersection and would not movemunder its own power- after being towed to a Honda Dealership, car was diagnosed with catastrophic transmission failure - only solution was to fully replace the transmission at a cost of over $9000
DTC 66-=13 and 66-11 found module failed function All warning lights are on suddenly including ABS
The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the CVT transmission suddenly failed after approximately 50 miles of driving. The contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the transmission before the vehicle lost motive power. There were no warning lights. The contact coasted to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the CVT transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Cape Girardeau Honda (385 Siemers Dr, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701); who confirmed the first dealer’s diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired because a replacement transmission was difficult to find. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 98,982.
On [XXX], the vehicle unexpectedly shut down while I was driving. After having the car towed to Honda of Fort Myers for inspection, I was informed that the ground wire had been tampered with—something typically associated with prior accident damage. This is deeply concerning as I was not made aware of any such damage or tampering at the time of purchase. Additionally, I was charged $738 to retrieve my vehicle from Honda of Fort Myers. Despite multiple attempts to contact your Customer Care department, including a call where I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes, I have yet to receive any meaningful assistance or follow-up. I have also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, to which I received a response from JP directing me to a Carfax report that does not address the actual issue at hand. For your reference, the vehicle has only had one oil change since purchase, which was performed through Kia of Cape Coral. I am requesting immediate attention to this matter and a resolution to hold the dealership accountable for selling a vehicle with undisclosed damage or tampering. Thank you. I was driving to work when suddenly my car lost motor function and just stopped, despite me pushing the gas pedal. This has happened to me at least 4 times now since owning the car for less than two years. I have almost been rear-ended each time. This time, however, my car did not want to start back up again. It flashed the battery and oil light on my dash and proceeded to tell me to hit the brake and push button to start (even though it was running), so I turned the vehicle off and attempted to start it again like I have in the past when encountering this issue. When I went to re-start the car, it sputtered and wouldn't start until I waited and tried again. I am very concerned, as I have a dog that I have in the backseat and if I get rear-ended, I will sue if there are injuries. I want a call about this immediately, as it is often pushed aside and I am fed up.
Driving on the highway loud clunk heard and car started rattling. Pulled over to inspect underneath car and couldn’t see anything. Brought it to the dealership and they confirmed the rear differential seized due to a bad seal causing a leak and both rear CV axels broke. Going over 55 mph causes vehicle to severely shake.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact waited before restarting the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart immediately, and several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the battery had failed. The battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle failed to start when the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the dealer four times; however, the failure became persistent, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,200.
Pulling out on a busy road making a left turn across traffic my hrv lost all ability to accelerate. I coast off the road put in park and turned off the ignition. I the restarted the vehicle and have not had the issue again, it's been a week. However I had this happen twice last year and took my vehicle back to jones honda to have them diagnose the issue. They can find no issue. When this happens I'm always making a left turn. No lights on the dashboard come on either.
I was driving in the [XXX] at 70 MPH when suddenly, and without warning, the car refused to accelerate. It was in effect switched to "neutral." I managed to guide the car to the very narrow shoulder of the turnpike. It was an incredibly dangerous situation. I was fortunate that there were no cars in the immediate area, otherwise I would have been hit. The car would not move in any gear. I took the car to the Honda dealership and they confirmed the transmission was shot. It will need to be replaced. The vehicle has 56,000. On [XXX] while driving on [XXX] , the driver’s airbag in my 2022 Honda HR-V suddenly deployed without any impact or collision. This created a major safety hazard, obstructing vision and forcing the driver to pull over immediately. The seat belt tensioner also engaged, restricting movement. There were no warning lights, no forward collision warnings, and no external factors that could have caused deployment. A diagnostic inspection at Larry Hopkins Honda (Sunnyvale, CA) confirmed that the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) recorded NO impact prior to deployment. This exact issue aligns with Honda’s Safety Recall 24-036 (Seat Weight Sensor Defect) for the 2020-2022 HR-V, yet my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall. Despite multiple attempts to escalate with Honda Corporate and the dealership, Honda has refused to acknowledge this as a defect or cover the repair. This is a critical safety failure that could have caused a serious accident or injury. I request NHTSA to investigate this issue, as other 2022 HR-Vs may also be at risk for random airbag deployment. Two times I have been driving in busy areas and when I brought my car to a stop at red lights and it’s turned green, my car will no longer move, but stays running so then I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to gain motor function again. I have almost been rear-ended twice.
After filling up the gas tank, the next morning when started the electric parking brake and check engine warning lights appeared with flashing red parking light on. Everything seemed to be working fine. The parking brake worked, and engine was fine. After internet research I narrowed it down to either a battery (3-years old), or a bad tank of gas, I checked the gas cap, ok. I hooked up my OBE engine monitor and it coded P2DE1, with its 5 potential issues. The internet has many complaints and issues about this dating back to 2016. People have replaced fuel injectors, O2 sensors, etc., costing a lot of money on unnecessary repairs. I replaced the battery, and all the dashboard lights went out. The OEM battery lasts about 3-years. Apparently, if the voltage drops below what is needed numerous warning lights come on. It is unsafe. Mandatory software upgrade for pcm U0155, or other safety recall to rectify?
Dash lighting up and draining Battery and not able to start Also alarm going off by itself draining battery
On Thursday last week, I went out to my car that I have parked in the garage the day before I had no issues with the vehicle drove it all day, but on Thursday, I left home to go out to make some errands hopped in my car and I tried to start it. First car wouldn’t turn on, so I thought maybe I should turn off headlights and interior lights. Then I waited a few minutes and thought maybe the cold temperatures was messing with the car. So I just walked away from the car and I got a battery slow drip thinking that the battery might be dead but battery said it had a full charge at 100% charge. So I tried my battery tester battery said battery was about 100% fully charged. So I waited until my friends got home so they could witness that I wasn’t crazy. The only thing the car did after trying to start again was make a clicking sound for about three minutes then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Every light came on every hazard that was built into the car was on saying that it needs a dealer to be checked or fixed so I called my local Honda dealership and they said that I should call roadside assistance because the car wouldn’t start. So before I could call roadside, I tried to jumpstart the car and nothing happened. So I went back in the house and about a two minutes later, the car crank and started itself, and it stayed on, but when I tried to turn it off, it told me that it could not be turned off due to some reason, I can’t remember from what it said on Thursday. So Thursday afternoon, I drove it up to our local Honda dealership and on the way up there the car shut off twice on the highway in motion which scared the mess out of me because I thought I was going to have an accident then about a mile from the dealership, the dashboard went black and so did the touchscreen, but then it came back on. But long story short local dealership said there’s nothing they can do to duplicate the issue in the car would not be fixed so I’m concerned that something else might happen
My car frequently accelerates or brakes on its own. It gives brake warnings when no one is near me and the brake or accelerator get stuck.
When driving on the highway at around 76 mph, the vehicle suddenly presents power loss and won't accelerate nor rev even if I step into the pedal all the way (No light in the dashboard). Going in the high speed lane, I had to stop in the shoulder lane and turn off the vehicle. After turning it on again, a couple of minutes later the problem was back. This would be the third time I have had the problem. Took it to Honda for a checkup and told them that no light came on in the dashboard, and also told them that the problem has been present when going over 70mph, and what they did is try to replicate the problem at 70mph.
All sensor warning lights came on the dashboard. Car would not move. Code showed no gas (tank was full). code for emergency brake (not engaged). Service department. of Honda dealer finally diagnosed fuel sensor getting stuck. Dealer said they would order part and replace it. They never ordered part and will not return our phone calls. They said they would talk to Honda to see if this model Honda was having this problem. No feedback. This situation has happened several times over the last 10 months. Usually happens when parked with engine running or moving very slowly. We turn off car for a few minutes. We are then able to move vehicle. Sensor lights eventually go off. We are afraid to go far from home because we never know when this will happen and if we can get it moving again. This car has about 31000 miles on it.
Windshield wipers suddenly just stopped working without warning while I was driving my 2022 Honda HRV (36,603 miles) during a rainfall. Thankfully I was not on the interstate and I was able to pull over into a parking lot. I took my car to the Napleton Honda Morton Grove Illinois where they inspected my vehicle. They said I need to replace the windshield wiper motor and linkage ($1100!). The car gave me NO warning messages leading up this this event. This could have been catastrophic to me and other drivers if I were in a heavy rainstorm on the interstate when this windshield wiper failure occurred. Please investigate to see if a recall is needed.
Vehicle loses throttle response multiple times a day while traveling on the highway or roads where slowing/stopping isn't frequent. Vehicle will be traveling 50-80mph and will not accelerate even with the pedal on the floor. Vehicle will either maintain speed or start slowing down, occasionally it will rapidly slow down. I will have to fully release the accelerator pedal and lightly slam it all the way to the floor and then the vehicle will decide to respond. A few times while driving in moderate traffic (30-45mph) the throttle will lose all response and will not respond to any pedal input at all for about 5-8 seconds and then will all of a sudden start functioning as intended again. I assume the third issue the vehicle is having with acceleration is related to the first two as well, occasionally it will have very slow acceleration when trying to get up to speed to merge onto the highway. It will take about ¼-⅓ of a mile or about 45-60 seconds to reach 60-70mph. When this occurs I will have the pedal all the way to the floor from the beginning of a fairly long on ramp and by the end of the ramp I will be going no faster than 50mph maybe 55mph. I assume all of this is caused by the CVT transmission or possibly the ECU. I have contacted Honda regarding these issues and they stated that they are aware of these issues and that they are fairly common, and that they also believe that it is a transmission or computer issue, but there is nothing they can nor will do about it because Honda corperate requires them to diagnose every issue through the vehicles computer. So if the vehicle doesn't have a warning light or any DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) set in the computer they can't (or wont) do anything about it eventhough there is clearly an issue that is entirely able to be diagnosed without a DTC. 90% of the time a bad CVT will never set a DTC. I don't speak on all this because I THINK I know, I speak on this because KNOW I know as I am an ASE certified master technician
My HRV with 1800 miles suddenly stopped in an intersection only after owning the vehicle for 2 weeks. The Honda dealership tested the computer system, drove the car, and found no abnormalities. The dealership then asked that i pick up the car and drive it as they were unable to replicate the problem. If it were to happen again I was to let them know. I made it clear that I was not going to take the car back as I believed that the driving the car was posed a safety issue.
The transmission is making a growling sound, also while driving at time when go to accelerate faster on freeway it stays where it's at even if you push pedal all the way down. Took to Honda dealer they acknowledge something is wrong with transmission but don't know what, so they want me to wait until a light comes on and to bring it back. I called Honda Corp but they were no help at all. Told them I was only 2500 miles from being out of warranty and if they could extend the warranty but was told no, but they would note about the problem. I am worried about my safety as they do acknowledge that there is a problem but dont know what and want me to continue driving it. I drive lots of miles everyday due to the type of work that I do. I was told not to worry because even if transmission fails while driving I always have my brakes still. Not much comfort in that responce.
Sticky Steering: Experienced a clunking sound from front drivers side steering the last two weeks. Last night while driving approximately 15mph the steering got stiff then overcorrected, veering off to the left into oncoming traffic. The car came to a rest after hitting a curb and the airbags deployed. Both injuries and damaged sustained. This is the second occurrence of the vehicle suddenly veering off to the left lane.
I am writing to formally report a recurring safety defect regarding the infotainment system in my 2022 Honda HR-V. For over a month, the system has remained completely non-functional (blank screen). Prior to this total failure, the unit exhibited intermittent power cycles since the date of purchase around February 2024. Upon inspection by an authorized Honda dealership, technicians confirmed that this is a known computer hardware issue frequent in this model year. Despite their admission that they "see this a lot," there is currently no active recall to address the defect. Safety Implications This failure is not merely a convenience issue; it creates several significant safety hazards: • Loss of Driver Assistance: The rearview camera and LaneWatch camera are completely disabled, significantly increasing the risk of collisions during reversing or lane changes. • Distracted Driving: I am unable to use integrated navigation, forcing reliance on handheld devices for directions. • Emergency Communication: The internal USB ports have failed along with the unit, preventing phone charging. This leaves me at risk of having no communication during a roadside emergency or breakdown. Evidence I have documented video evidence of a certified Honda technician stating that this is a pervasive and "very common" issue with this vehicle's architecture. I urge the association to investigate these systemic failures. A safety-critical component like the rearview camera should not be subject to such widespread hardware instability without a manufacturer-led remedy.
2022 HRV battery is draining while parked. I have had the new car for 2 years, low mileage with no problems until this past month October/November 2023 the battery has drained 3 times. Honda of Frankfort, KY replaced the battery (said it was defective). The car worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the battery drained again yesterday, November 13, 2023. I had it towed to Frankfort, Ky Neil Huffman Honda yesterday. I have had a tow company come to the car 3 times in the past month. The problem is probably not the battery, but something is draining the battery. Definitely a safety issue if car will not start when it is needed. No warning lights came on.
Use this vehicle as a daily commuter for work/school/other personal trips in good faith it would be a solid, reliable car. Had it since February 2022, brand new right off the lot no issues. One morning driving to work, the tire pressure, parking brake, and check engine light indicators all come on while I'm on the highway. I exit to an off ramp and pull into a parking lot to go through the different gears and everything seems okay, so I proceed to return to my commute. Start coming to a stop light at an intersection and the vehicle stalls completely as I decelerate. I go to start the vehicle again as I'm in an active lane of traffic and it won't start. Try starting it again and it starts but the parking brake is fully engaged (not by me setting it but the vehicle self-engaged it) and I can't move the vehicle as it won't dis-engage the parking brake when I hit the gas. I had to get it towed to the dealership and mechanics told me later it was a fuel canister failure, and it isn't uncommon for the sensor in that element to fail which certainly didn't inspire great comfort. I drive it 5 miles after they assured me it was taken care of and all the same indicators come back on. Return to the dealership and they re-assessed the issue is farther down near the tank. Been driving it since the second repair attempt and so far no issues. Very disappointed and hesitant about this model's safety and reliability especially hearing about the rear-differential investigation and others having it decelerate at highway speeds suddenly. As this is my first car, I had hoped this was the right choice and would be solid for years to come, but now I question whether I trust the HRV model and Honda in general.
Engine failed to start when turning the key in the ignition. Occurred three separate occasions within 30 days @ 18,000. Engine light and electronic steering system lights remained on. Vehicle started after waiting one hour. On the third occasion, the car was towed to the dealer, and a service advisor experienced the same issue. However, 30 minutes later, a mechanic was able to start the engine at every attempt. There were no warning lights, other than the lights remaining on the dashboard when attempting to turn the key. (I have video of the experience - please see photo). I am submitting this notice because on all 3 occasions, Honda dealer performed diagnostics, but could not find an issue that caused the failed start. I was reluctant to keep a car with a problem that statistically would reoccur in the future, or perhaps might experience an even worse electrical problem. The dealer "bought" the car back, and sold me a 2024 - same model. There were some additional costs and of course the interest rate was higher. I agreed to all of the conditions for the new purchase, and I believe the dealer did right by me with the purchase of the newer model. HOWEVER, 3 days after I purchased the 2024 HR-V, the dealer put the 2022 HR-V on the lot and is attempting to resell it. I find this wrong and possibly a risk to the new owner. I have every reason to believe the issue for the faulty electrical system was not discovered over the short time (3 days) from when I turned in the car, and when I saw it on the lot for resell. Other than the electrical issue, the vehicle was very reliable and I took very good care with it. If not for anticipating the problem would reoccur when I was driving or wouldn't start in an emergency, or perhaps reoccur after the warranty expired, I traded it in to the dealer and purchased a new 2024 model. Thank you.
The braking system did not work when pushed. It is not available for inspection as it is in a totaled state. My safety was at risk as it sped into a building. It has not been attempted to be reproduced. Vehicle was inspected by police. To be inspected by insurance. There were no warning lamps of any sort.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the "Electric Emergency Brake Unavailable - See Dealer" message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and lost power steering and braking functionality. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact stated that she had experienced the same failure with the vehicle stalling and stopped driving the vehicle out of fear of stalling on a busy road. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,309.
Brakes failed, air bags didn't deploy, seat belt failed, collision mitigation system failed

Subject: Safety Complaint – 2022 Honda HR‑V – Intermittent Unintended Acceleration While Braking I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect in my 2022 Honda HR‑V. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has unexpectedly accelerated while I was pressing the brake pedal. This behavior is intermittent, unpredictable, and dangerous. Description of the Issue: While slowing down or coming to a stop, the vehicle will occasionally surge forward despite my foot being firmly on the brake. The engine revs and the vehicle attempts to move forward against braking force. This is not driver error. It occurs without any warning lights, alerts, or diagnostic messages. Operating Conditions When the Problem Occurs: - Low‑speed braking (parking lots, stop signs, traffic - Foot fully on the brake pedal - No cruise control active - No pedals obstructed - Normal road and weather conditions Safety Concerns: This defect creates a clear risk of: - Rear‑end collisions - Pedestrian injury - Property damage Loss of vehicle control The behavior is consistent with an electronic brake/throttle control malfunction, including possible issues with the brake pedal position sensor, accelerator pedal sensor, brake booster pressure sensor, or driver‑assist modules (ABS, ESC, CMBS). Other HR‑V owners have reported similar incidents. Dealer Response: The issue is intermittent, and the dealership has been unable to reproduce it. No repairs have been performed. No diagnostic codes were stored. Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential unintended acceleration defect affecting the 2022 Honda HR‑V. This problem poses a significant safety hazard to me and to the public. Thank you for your attention to this matter. 100% system failure vehicle totalled personal injury I have all data retrieved and filed by expert
I purchased the vehicle on 2/17/22 and shortly afterwards started noticing problems starting with acceleration car wouldn’t go past 45 mph or lower. The car radio system has static can’t get reception; the battery died requiring a jump. On 9/21/22 and January 10, 2023 I took car to dealer about these problems and other concerns and they said couldn’t verify my concerns. On 5/9/23 I set out for my first long distance trip from Vallejo CA, to Las Vegas NV after driving approximately 200-300 miles the dashboard light up light a Christmas tree with several system problem warnings as follow: Power Steering System (EPS) problem, Road Departure Mitigation, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) problem, Emissions System problem, All Wheel Drive System problem, Brake System problem, Brake Hold system problem, Hill Start Assist problem, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) continuously flashing, Hold Brake light, Oil light flashing and the Drivers and Front Passenger Airbag light flashing. I had to stop in Los Angeles CA, Honda service center and they couldn’t do a diagnostic test that day and warning lights went off after technician disabled the Road departure mitigation system and was told it was safe to continue on to Vegas. However, all warning light as mentioned came back on and remained on. I took the car to Honda West in Vegas on 5/11/23 and was told car had a misfiring code. Diagnostic test performed and multiple repair codes were detected but they couldn’t duplicate concerns, took fuel sample test and it passed, cleared DTCs performed final test verified no DTCs returned or currently present/stored and they returned car to me. On 5/15/23 left Vegas and the same system warning lights came back on, stopped in Los Angeles again and stayed overnight and the lights were off the next morning. I took vehicle to Avery Green Honda after speaking to Sales Manager Sean Shahid where the car remains to date for further diagnostic testing.
