I was pulling into my parking spot after a 25 minutes long drive with the back windshield defroster on due to fogging. The back windshield popped and then completely shattered. The pop was startling and the shattering completely prevents the driver from seeing out of the back window l. There are several reports of the problem occurring to other drivers online. The car will be inspected by the dealer soon.
Rear windshield exploded randomly while driving. Nothing hit the windshield, no sign of impact, completely shattered. The noise it made was loud and distracted me while driving while also impaired part of my vision which is necessary for safety driving. It's an inconvenience where I have no responsibility in the cause and has now affected my commute to work, I will have to wait until a shop is able to fix this and can't drive anywhere since it's illegal to not have a windshield in CA.
Rear windshield shattered after using the rear defroster for less than 5 minutes
I was parked in a parking lot when the rear windshield exploded and the glass would fall apart with a single touch. There was no crash and no other damage, just the rear windshield cracking.
Rear windshield shattered with out any damage or impact
Back window of car shattered while driving. No impact from foreign objects. There was no warning- glass will be replaced by safelite in which they explained they had 6 cars with the same issue. As I googled the situation, it seems as if this has been an ongoing problem with Honda and some of the Acura models.
I drove the vehicle in the rain with the front and rear wipers on and the rear defrost on. After pulling into a parking space and turning off the car, I unloaded items from the car and closed all of the doors. Upon returning to the parking lot, others in the lot informed me that there had been a cracking sound and glass in the upper left-hand corner of the rear windshield had fallen into the trunk. They confirmed that there had not been an impact which caused the crack and there was nothing in the trunk to suggest an impact. While attempting to cover the rear windshield in the rain, more of the glass fell into the trunk. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for evaluation. Had this occurred while the vehicle was operating, it could have posed a safety risk for individuals in the back seat and a distraction risk for the driver.
Back windshield shattered after using defrost. Sounded like a gunshot and it shattered into a thousand pieces.
Within 10 minutes of turning on the rear defroster, the rear window shattered. Glass fell into the car, but no object was found inside the car. It was about 60F outside, and the sun had set ~5 hours prior. This specific vehicle has not been inspected for this issue prior to the incident, and the dealership was unable/unwilling to look at the rear defroster without first replacing the rear window. We still have the rear window, which could be made available upon request.
When trying to correct steering and to maintain position in a lane, the steering will stick. I must use additional force to turn the wheel, which leads to overcorrection.
In Oct. 13, 2023, I was driving and my back window exploded. The dealership said they could not do anything about it so I had to go to a glass store and have a new one put in when they had availability about 2 weeks later. So I drove with No back window during cold times. I had only had the cat a little over a year.
I used the rear window defroster this morning and when I arrived at work I smelled what seemed to be burning rubber but thought it was from the road. When in park my rear window shattered. Started in a spot in the upper driver side part of the window.
Today the rear windshield of my 2023 Honda HR-V shattered instantaneously while the car was parked in my driveway. The car was outside during a cold night and then warm day so I wonder if the temperature change impacted the glass. I see other reports online of rear windshield shattering, but no recall. When I called the service department at the dealer, they were unaware of the issue. I am thankful I wasn't driving the car when it happened which would have been really dangerous, but now I have an undriveable car that's less than a year old with pieces of glass everywhere.

Rear windshield shattered while stationary upon activating the rear defroster for less than 5 minutes. The initial hole was in the upper left side of the rear window.

While driving to work this morning I heard a LOUD POP and continued cracking. I looked up and seen that my back window was shattered. It was 39 degrees this morning and I did have the defroster on. Took my car to local dealership and was not offered a loaner.
Rear windshield shattered while driving with no impact occuring to the glass. Cargo area and interior of car covered with shards of glass. No prior cracks or blemishes observed in the glass. The rear window defrost was turned on.
On 10/9/2023 my back windshield exploded without any type of impact whatsoever. I was driving down a road headed to work driving about 40 mph and without any warning or impact I heard a loud exploding noise and then the entire back glass shattered into thousands of pieces. No back windshield wiper or no back defogger was being used at the time either. This happened without any type of warning or any type of incident at all. The noise this made would be enough to startle a driver and cause an accident not to mention the shattered glass that was everywhere. I have contacted the dealer where I purchased the car new and at first was told by the head of their service department that they had never heard of anything like this and that my insurance should cover it. After calling back a second time their receptionist acknowledged that yes they were aware of the problem and two other people had brought their HRVs in with the same thing happening to them. She said their sales manager would be giving me a call back. At this time I have not heard back. I have taken numerous photos of the damage and my insurance company has agreed to make the repairs even though this damage is clearly a defect in this Honda product. Numerous other incidents can be found online.
I was parked at a restaurant and come out to notice my whole back windshield is completely shattered. There was no cracks in it and nothing ever hit it. Completely annoyed about the situation and then have to be paying out of pocket
I was driving normally and my back windshield shattered
I was just driving down the road at approx 45mph when the rear window suddenly shattered with very loud BANG. Pieces of glass inside and out. Nothing hit the window, it just shattered.
I was driving my Honda hrv on a normal day like any other and had my defroster on and out of no where heard a loud pop and my whole back window shattered
The back windshield spontaneously combusted while the car was parked. There was no prior damage to the back windshield that would have compromised the glass.
My 2023 Honda HRV rear winshield imploded all by itself. I reached out immediately to my Honda dealership and they said there is no recall and they have not heard of any issue from other owners. There was nothing they could do for me. I filed a police report and took a lot of pictures. Please advise.
I drove my vehicle last night and had no issue. When I came down this afternoon my window was completely shattered but intact. The edging was falling to pieces but the tint film seemingly kept the glads together even though it wad webbed with cracks. There was NO sign of any impact, no hole, no chip, no nothing. Just a randomly cracked back windshield. I reverse park my vehicle and it would have been hard for anyone to access since it’s parked close to my garage door.
Car was parked. Upon arrival back to the car, I noticed the back windshield had shattered into a spiderweb. Car has never been in an accident and back windshield is all stock. No modifications to the car have been made.
Rear window exploded with no impact after using rear defrost
I was driving within the speed limit on a street and noticed lack of visibility in my rear window so I turned on the defroster. Within a matter of minutes I heard a loud shatter sound and looked back and saw my rear window shattered. I thought someone threw something at it at first, but after pulling over to the side I noticed the rear window just randomly shattered. At first it was a big hole, and then the rear window just kept falling down by fragments. I have turned on that rear defroster many times and nothing like this ever happened. There were no cracks in the rear window either because I inspect the car every time before I get into it. The window fragments were scattered over my trunk and it looked as it the window popped off my car, signaling a defect. The vehicle is available for inspection. My family member was in the back seat and I instantly was terrified they were injured by the glass. This random shattering of the window is seen by many people with the 2023 Honda HR-V, not just me. The vehicle should be inspected by the dealership, but they are claiming it might have been a rock that cracked it, which I do not believe as I am very careful when I drive and inspect the car. No warning signs were present when this happened, so it was very frightening for all of us in the car when our rear window randomly shattered with a loud noise.
On 10/03/2023, I was in stop-and-go traffic on the highway when I heard a loud pop towards the rear of my vehicle. When I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw that my rear windshield was completely shattered. There was a hole on the driver's side that gradually grew bigger as I drove off the highway. When I pulled over to assess the damage, it looked like the glass was protruding outwards. I did not find any objects inside my car that would suggest something was thrown at my car. The rear of my vehicle was untouched, so no signs of collision. My rear windshield just shattered without an identifiable cause.
The rear windshield shattered and broke. I was at a complete stop in a line when I heard a loud pop and saw the rear windshield had broken. I pulled into a parking space to inspect what had happened. There was a large hole on the left side of the rear windshield, the rest of the windshield was shattered and the side and bottom edges looked blown out. Thankfully my children were not in the back seat at the time of incident. Immediately drove home, where more of the windshield fell in, and called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle 10 months ago and explained what had happened. The lady I spoke with told me it was not an uncommon problem. She put me on hold and then told me I would need to file with my insurance company or bring it in and they could quote me a price to replace it. I explained it was a brand new car and I purchased the 8 year warranty and she stated they would not cover it. I requested to speak to the service manager but I was told he was in a meeting and would call me back. I have not heard back from the service manager at this point. We did file a claim with our insurance since it needs to be repaired. The soonest they can come out is next week. This occurred roughly at 7:50 am, it was 76 degrees outside, partially cloudy, and I had used the rear defrost earlier to see out my back windshield. There was no warnings of any kind of impending failure, it was a sudden malfunction.
Gar parked in garage and rear windshield shattered randomly without any kind of impact to the vehicle. Windshield started cracking around the edges and then progressed more inwards towards the middle. Huge safety issue as someone could have potentially been sitting in the rear seats when this occurred and could have gotten severely injured. I do not see any open recalls about this issue on Honda’s website, but it seems like this issue is happening to other individuals too.
I was driving about 35 mph, in morning on 10/3/23. Suddenly the rear windshield shattered accompanied by a very loud noise at the rear or hood of car. At first I thought someone threw a rock, or fired a gun, on my car. Pulled car over to inspect. I was very shaken. The road had a few pine trees adjacent, I thought perhaps a large heavy pine cone could have fallen on the back windshield, but had no evidence of that happening specifically. I have read subsequently about this happening with other 2023 HR-Vs. I don’t know if I turned on the defroster that morning or not. It is possible, because it was a chilly morning. I reported it to my insurance, they covered the entire rear windshield replacement cost.
Rear window shattered randomly on a cool day with the rear defrost on. I was parked and bearded a boom and looked back and my rear window was shattered. No damage to the vehicle, no accident with vehicle, and object thrown at window. The window just shattered randomly. I’ve read this is a common issue with this year and model, I’ve heard the rear defrost overheats and shatters the glass.
While the car was parked in a parking lot, the rear windshield shattered. Luckily, no one was in the car or near it. We are trying to schedule an appointment with our local Honda dealership, but no one has inspected the damage. There were no warning indicators or other problems prior. The glass just popped. We have a video of the incident but cannot upload it.
Rear windshield shattered when I started the parked car this morning.
Today is October 1, 2023 I was driving home from church going about 35mph and we heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit the car, but they didn’t. I looked in the rear view mirror and the windshield shattered. My [XXX] mother and [XXX] Aunt (sitting in the back) were terrified and shocked. I was scared and shocked too. When I puked the car over to see what happened there was a hold on the glass and the entire windshield shattered. This is insane and extremely dangerous for anyone to experience. I am still shaking in shock now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
No incident has happened yet. The issue I am having is with the steering. When driving, it seems as though the steering is almost sticking and when it finally adjusts, it does like a small jerk. It's almost like the car doesn't want you to turn or adjust the steering at all and wants you to stay straight. Seems worse now that it's getting cold outside, but it could be that it's just getting worse with time. I'm worried about how its going to drive when it's raining outside. I took it to the dealer and the service advisor blamed it on my car getting hit when it was parked and said that it had to do with that. The damage to my car was very minimal and didn't affect anything other than cosmetics. When I told him that I started feeling this sticking feeling with the steering wheel, he said that it had nothing to do with Honda. I thought maybe it was all in my head, but the more I drive it, the more I know that there is actually something wrong. Today I did some research and it turns out that I'm not the only one having the issue. Obviously, this needs to be investigated before someone gets hurt or possibly even killed. It's definitely a safety issue. Please look into this!!
Steering wheel sticks when temperature is cooler and driving on highway. No warning lights come on and no accidents.
The first of October 2023, I was sitting in my car in a parking lot. I started my engine and I heard a loud boom, I looked up and around my car when I noticed the large hole in my rear window. I did not turn on my rear defroster. I went home and called my insurance company. The next day I went to the dealership where I purchased my HR-V. the service technician said "oh no not another one. I asked her what did she mean by that remark. She said that this particular model 2023 HR-V, their dealership has had a lot of customers come in for the same problem. My dealership scheduled for me to get the rear shatterered window replacement. I immediately called my insurance company to cancel the appointment. Why should I file a claim on my insurance when this incident wasn't my fault. The Honda Motor Corporation need to acknowledge that the rear window is faulty and a danger to all its customers.
This vehicle was purchased new, (03/03/2023). At 5,460 miles (10/23/2023) returned to the dealership with steering complaint. Steering is sticky and seems to lock up at highway speeds. In order to turn the steering wheel when this happens you must apply additional pressure left or right to move the steering wheel pasted this condition which could cause an oversteer situation at higher speeds. Dealership test drove vehicle and was unable to duplicate condition. Vehicle now has 8,973 miles and condition is still present!! There are no warning lamps or messages to indicate referenced problem. Vehicle is available for any inspection to verify .
My car had been parked, and when I shut one of the passenger doors, the back window shattered. My car is only about a year old and has never had any previous issues. My safety was obviously put at risk due to shattered glass and having to drive a car without a back window. Online forums state the same issue with other 2023 Honda HR-Vs.
The unsettling incident took place on on Sep 30, 2023 when I returned home and was about to park my prized possession, a sleek HRV Sport, within the safe confines of my garage. As the hum of the engine lulled to a gentle stop, I was ready to ease the car into its resting place when an unexpected and startling sound pierced the air, resembling a gunshot. My eyes darted to the rearview mirror, revealing a distressing sight: the back window on the driver's side had shattered into a constellation of glass fragments, cascading like crystalline rain. The eerie sight left us three occupants of the car in a state of shock and disbelief. We searched our surroundings, but neither the roadway nor any object within the car appeared to be the source of this sudden catastrophe. Strangely, the glass had shattered from the inside out, defying all conventional expectations of impact. Convinced that no external force was to blame (rubber seal of the windshield was lying on the floor), we attributed the shattered window to a manufacturing flaw within the vehicle. A deeper investigation corroborated our suspicions, as we stumbled upon a disconcerting truth: this particular make and model had a history of such defects. Scores of individuals had shared similar harrowing experiences online, cementing the notion that we were victims of a pervasive manufacturing issue. In the wake of this disheartening discovery, a wave of determination surged within us. We resolved to take collective action, raising our voices against the lack of quality control that had put countless lives at risk. Our ordeal had not only unveiled a flaw in our beloved HRV Sport but had also ignited a sense of responsibility to ensure that others were spared from the potential dangers lurking within these seemingly innocent vehicles. Thus began our journey to seek justice, shedding light on the hidden truths behind the glimmering facade of the automobile industry.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, she heard an abnormal gunshot-like sound and immediately pulled over to the side of the road. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear windshield had imploded. The contact stated that she contacted the police department, and a police officer arrived and inspected the vehicle. The police officer determined that there was no external cause to the failure. The contact covered the rear windshield with plastic and duct tape, and then drove to her destination. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that it was known failure. The dealer informed the contact that the rear windshield needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My rear window shattered on September 29th, 2023 on my 2023 Honda HRV Sport. My car had some frost on the windows early that morning, so I used the remote start to start my vehicle and let it run for about 5 minutes before leaving for work. I left the defrost on during my short 10 minute drive to work. When I came out to my car at lunch, the entire back window was completely shattered and had a large hole approximately 3 inches in diameter on the left side. The glass completely fell into my car once the driver door was shut gently. The company ran back the cameras to see if there was an incident that caused my rear window to shatter. The camera footage catches the rear window shattering about 4 minutes after I turned the car off. Nobody was near the car when it happened and it appeared that the window just shattered on its own.
I was driving on my way home and I heard a large pop. It turned out to be my rear windshield that was spider cracked and a huge hole on the passenger side
On 09/29/2023 evening at Trenton NJ it was drizzling. I see water droplets on side mirrors and back glass, so turned on rear defogger and drove just 2 minutes, with no reason by back glass shattered with blow sound. I immediately stopped car and saw glass particals fallen inside and few on road. Luckily no one injured. We are traveling with infant and elders. Honda is responsible for this cheap quality glass . Please help us to cover the cost and recall this defect in the car for future people safety
Rear window shattered while in the garage
I left work at about 430 p.m. and at just that time, it started to rain and then some torrential rain. Because of the heavy rain, I did use my rear defroster, the rear wiper, front wiper and front defroster. My drive as far as distance is about 18 miles, but because of the weather, traffic was slow. Then the rain stopped so I did not need to use the rear wiper. About 1-1/2 miles from my exit I heard a pop, pulled over to the shoulder of the road and saw that the back window on the left side had a hole and the rest of the glass was shattered. As time went by, as I was slowly driving home (the rest of the drive is about 5 miles), more and more of the glass was falling in. Now most of the glass is missing.
