THE POWER SLIDING DOOR ON OUR HONDA ODYSSEY STOPPED WORKING. IT IS EXTREMEMLY DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND CLOSE AND OUR CHILDREN CAN NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE SAFELY. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ACCORDING TO DEALER IT IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY. ODYSSEYS FROM THE YEARS 1999-2001 HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED. SYMPTOMS: D4 LIGHT DIMS. DELAYED ENGAGEMENT OF GEARS. HARSH SHIFTING. HAVE THE CAR IN SHOP NOW. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD , HAD TO STOP AND PULL OFF ROAD TO GET HELP GETTING IT HOME. NOW IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUES AT HAND I SEE THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH HONDA TRANNYS. WHY CANT THEY FIND A SOLUTION AND SAVE EVERYONE SOME TIME AND MONEY. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED AND LEFT US STRANDED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. ANOTHER TIME I HAD TO DRIVE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY UNTIL I COULD GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY. VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE AN UNRELIABLE TRANSMISSION ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
PURCHASED A USED 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY IN 2005; AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE VEH WAS STILL UNDER LIMITED MANUFACTURES WARRANTY. VERY WELL AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSION RECALL. WE ARE NOW GOING ON OUR 4TH TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT SINCE THE PURCHASE. THE LAST REPLACEMENT WAS IN FEBRUARY 2008; THEY MADE ME FIGHT FOR A WARRANTY ON THAT REFURBISHED / REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION 3 YEAR OR 36,000 MILES. WELL THIS ONE BARELY LASTED 12,000 MILES AND I AM COMPLETELY FED UP. MY WIFE TRANSPORTS MY REMAINING 4 SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN AROUND. THIS VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON NUMEROUS TIMES IN BUSY TRAFFIC, AND THIS TIME AROUND I WILL NOT EXCEPT A REFURBISHED OR REBUILT OR USED TRANNY. I WILL FIGHT FOR A NEW ONE, OR A COMPLETE REFUND OF THE MONEY SPENT! *TR
I OWN A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. I AM SURE YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THEIR KNOWN TRANSMISSION ISSUES. HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, AND WITHOUT A RECALL, DECIDED TO SIMPLY EXTEND THE WARRANTY FROM 5YRS TO 7YRS, KNOWING THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD RUN INTO PROBLEMS AFTER THE 7YR MARK, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT THE 6YR MARK. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. AS THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, I WAS TOLD TO JUST IGNORE IT, AS IT MUST HAVE COME ON AFTER FILLING UP GAS, AND NOT TO WORRY, AS IT WILL GO OFF AUTOMATICALLY. FINALLY I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE CODES, AND NOW THEY TELL ME IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT, AS JUST BECAUSE THE LIGHT IS ON, THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT "DEAD" AND TO CONTINUE DRIVING UNTIL I NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS. WELL, AFTER A 4HR ROAD TRIP, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON, AND I DIDN'T REALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, UNTIL I STOPPED AND HAD TO MAKE A LT HAND TURN. AS I STEPPED ON THE GAS TO ENTER THE INTERSECTION, THE VAN HESITATED, AND THEN JERKED FORWARD. HAD THE DELAY BEEN ANY LONGER, MY FAMILY AND MYSELF WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT HONDA, AND NOW 18MONTHS LATER, IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL. WHY KEEP REPLACING A TRANSMISSION KNOWING IT WILL ONLY LAST ANOTHER UNDER 2YRS. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO SELL THIS VAN, BUT IT'S NOT FARE TO THE NEXT UNFORTUNATE PERSON. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED HONDA ODYSSEY IN 2008 . HAS VEHICLE FOR 4 WEEKS AND NOTICE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I-I0 WITH MY CHILDREN MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY STARTED JERKING AND JUMPING WHENEVER I HAD TO EXCEL. FINALLY IT CAME TO AN JERKING STOP I HAD TO MOVE MY CAR OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AND DID NOT SNOW WHAT TO DO I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF BEING HIT WHEN FINALLY MY 17 YEAR OLD SON JUMPS UP AND PUTS MY CAR INTO PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE AND SLOWLY JERKED IT OF THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I PURCHASED AN USED 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY (62000 MILES) FROM DREXEL HILL HONDA ( PA) ON 08/11/2008 IT HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ON 09/01/2008. I JUST GOT MY CAR LESS THAN A MONTH, AND PUTTED ON 500 MILES ON IT. TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALER, FOUND DTC P0740: TC FAILURE DTC P0730: INCORRECT GEAR RATIO THEY ADVISED TO REPLACE AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION. BUT AMERICAN HONDA DON'T REPLACE THEIR FAILED TRANSMISSION FOR FREE. THEY OFFER ME 50-50. I DON'T WANT TO PAY $1200 FOR THEIR BAD TRANSMISSION. *TR
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY DRIVER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE AND LOCK PROPERLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. HONDA RECALL#O2-031 IS RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT STATED HER VEHICLE IS NOT STARTING BECAUSE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE SHE IS DRIVING. THE DRIVE HAS TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF TO ALLOW THE IGNITION SWITCH TO RESET ITSELF. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
NOTICED CAR SLIPPING WHEN IN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. TOOK VAN INTO DEALER IN JUNE OF 2008 FOR DIAGNOSES. INTERNAL FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND IN AUG TRANNY WENT OUT AT 120,549MILES. HAD HONDA DEALER REPAIR ISSUE. WE WERE OFFERED A DISCOUNT THRU CUSTOMER RELATIONS. NOW IN 2013 WITH ABOUT 194,000 MILES TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO GO. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. TWO TRANSMISSIONS GO BAD IN 13 YEARS. HONDA NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR LOUSY PRODUCT. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE INVESTMENT. *TR
TRANSMISSION TROUBLE WITHIN 3 YEARS OF REPLACEMENT BY DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH SYLVAINIA SILVERSTAR II, MODEL NUMBER 90003/HB2 (NA). THE EPC CODE IS 046135317279. THE CONTACT PURCHASED REPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT BULBS AND EIGHT MONTHS LATER, THE LIGHT FIXTURE FAILED. HE FEELS THAT THE LIGHT FIXTURE SHOULD AT LEAST LAST A COUPLE OF YEARS. HE ALSO FEELS THAT THE BULBS MAY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING DUE TO THE 200 HOURS OF LIGHT THE FIXTURE OFFERS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE DESIGNED TO LAST ONLY 200 HOURS AND NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE MADE. THE MILEAGE WAS NOT APPLICABLE.
THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN/CLOSE USING ANY OF THE CONTROLS. WE HAVE TO CLOSE IT MANUALLY BUT IT WON'T LATCH COMPLETELY SO WE ARE FORCED TO DRIVE WITH THE DOOR SLIGHTLY AJAR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME WITH MY TWO DAUGHTERS SITTING THERE. BECAUSE THE DOOR IS SLIGHTLY OPEN WE HAVE TO TURN OFF THE MAIN POWER SWITCH TO THE SLIDING DOORS TO AVOID HAVING THE CONSTANT BUZZING NOISE. THIS MEANS THEY ARE LOCKED IN THE BACK SEAT AND UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN AFTER TRIPS TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY HONDA. *TR
2000 ODYSSEY, FULLY SERVICED BY DEALER SINCE PURCHASE. RECENTLY TRANSMISSION STARTED GIVING A PROBLEM SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND ALSO GOT A CHECK ENGINE SIGN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (100,000 MILES) FROM HONDA AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. LATER THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 109,000 FROM THEIR STANDARD WARRANTY. MY CAR HAS 141,000 MILES. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA -- BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THAT THIS MODEL YEAR HAS PROBLEMS AND THERE WAS ALREADY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IN PLACE. I THINK HONDA QUALITY AND SERVICE ARE GOING DOWN. *TR
PURCHASED HONDA ODYSSEY NEW IN LATE SUMMER/FALL OF 2000. VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED HARD WHILE BRAKING SINCE NEW. THOUGHT IT WAS HOW THE VEHICLE OPERATED. I GOT A POSTCARD IN THE MAIL A FEW YEARS AGO STATING HONDA WAS GOING TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I CURRENTLY HAVE 136,000 MILES ON THE VAN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 2 WEEKS AGO. I TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE TO HAVE INSPECTION DONE & TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 3-4 YEARS AGO AND HONDA SAID IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE DEALER (PIAZZA HONDA OF READING, PA) REPLACED IT FOR FREE. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP THE VAN FROM THE INSPECTION AND THE GARAGE WOULD NOT PASS THE INSPECTION. THE ERROR CODE THAT CAME UP WAS "PO740" AND THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED, BUT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO VERIFY. I TOOK THE VAN FROM THE GARAGE TO THE DEALER AND GAVE THEM THE RECEIPT FROM MY INSPECTION (WHICH HAD THE ERROR CODE ON IT). THE SERVICE GUY TOOK THE RECEIPT WITH HIM INTO THE GARAGE BAY, TALKED TO THE MANAGER AND CAME BACK OUT. HE TOLD ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD COST ME $2500-$4500 TO REPLACE IT. I ASKED HIM IF THEY WERE DOING ANY "GOODWILL" WITH THE ON GOING TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND HE SAID NO. I ALSO ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF THEY WOULD SPLIT THE COST AND HE SAID NO. I HAVE HAD THE VAN SERVICED SEVERAL TIME AT THAT SPECIFIC HONDA DEALER AND NOTHING WAS EVER SAID TO ME ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. HONDA EXPECTS ME TO PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION ON A KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING FOR WORK IN MY HONDA ODYSSEY (2000) , MY TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND I EXPERIENCED "BUCKING" AS I ACCELERATED FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THE ENGINE WOULD ALSO REV. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALREADY ON FROM A PREVIOUS PROBLEM THAT HONDA HAS NOT RESOLVED FOR 2 YEARS. I BROUGHT MY ODYSSEY INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE (P0740) AND AN EMISSION PROBLEM (T1457). I CALLED HONDA AMERICA AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD PAY 25% OF THE BILL AND I WOULD COVER 75%. I AM NOT SATISFIED SINCE 2000 ODYSSEY'S HAVE A HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I WILL HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED HOWEVER FELT THAT MY SAFETY WAS JEOPARDIZED DURING MY TRAVELS AS I HAD DIFFICULTY ACCELERATING ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND THROUGHOUT MAJOR CITIES. *TR
MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS HAD TROUBLE (SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES) WITH ITS SLIDING POWER DOORS NOT LATCHING PROPERLY AND I'VE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS ON THEM OVER THE 8 YEARS I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. AS OF A FEW DAYS AGO, MY DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL USING THE POWER. I HAVE A BABY CARSEAT INSTALLED IN THE SEAT BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT, SO I'VE HAD TO GET MY BABY IN AND OUT OF THE CAR THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS, AND I REALIZED THAT IF THERE WERE AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE IN MY CAR, THIS WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET MY BABY OUT QUICKLY. IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR, I WOULD HAVE TO REACH INTO THE CAR FROM THE DRIVER'S DOOR, SLIDE THE LOCKING MECHANISM INTO THE "UNLOCKED" POSITION, TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE SLIDING DOORS, AND THEN USE A LOT OF FORCE TO MANUALLY OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR. AND SOMETIMES WHEN I HAVE TRIED THIS, THE LOCKING MECHANISM IMMEDIATELY SLIDES ITSELF BACK INTO THE "LOCKED" POSITION BEFORE I AM ABLE TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. *TR
I HAD ONE TRANSMISSION REPLACED, NOW MY SECOND ONE AT 3.5 YEARS OLD IS SOMETIMES GOING OUT OF REVERSE AND INTO DRIVE ALONG WITH DRIVING ALONG IN DRIVE AND ALL THE SUDDEN DOES NOTHING WHEN YOUR FOOT IS ON THE GAS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRACKING CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS) LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE TCS LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN 40 MPH IS REACHED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DIAGNOSTIC PRODUCED ERROR CODE AP0740 (A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT WILL LEAD TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE). THE CONTACT REFERENCED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBERS 0104101 (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND 10013844 (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
IN ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN MY GARAGE, MY VAN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED THROUGH THE WALL INTO MY DINING ROOM. I IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES. MY HOUSE WAS DAMAGED BUT NO INJURIES OCCURRED. I WAS CONFUSED BLAMED MYSELF. ONLY A FEW DAYS LATER, IN A SLOW MOVING LINE OF TRAFFIC, I AGAIN FELT THE ACCELERATION BUT WAS ABLE TO STOP IT PRIOR TO A COLLISION. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT 5/5 08-TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT WENT ON. BROUGHT IT TO HONDA DEALER THE RAN THE CODE AND STATED INTERNAL TRANS FAILURE. SINCE WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND HAD ALL TRANS SERVICE AT HONDA THEY AGREED TO SPLIT HALF THE COST. I ASKED WHAT IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN THE SERVICE REP STATED "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT" IT WILL LAST AT LONG TIME. WELL HERE I AM AGAIN WITH 45,000 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM. BROUGHT IT TO HONDA AND THEY SAID "SORRY YOU ON YOUR OWN" 4-5 THOUSAND TO REPLACE. THAT IS MORE THAN THE VAN IS WORTH. I THINK IT'S TERRIBLE THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BUT REFUSE TO RECALL OR FIX THEM CORRECTLY. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTING SLIPPING ON 12/8/12 I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND IT SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT WARNING. I ALMOST WAS HIT. I COULDN'T MOVE, THE VAN HAD NO POWER, JUST REVERTED UP THE 3000 RPM'S I WAS SCARED. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I GUESS WHEN PEOPLE START GETTING KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENTS FROM THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS FROM HONDA MAYBE SOMETHING WILL HOPEFULLY BE DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
HONDA 2000 ODYSSEY LX IRREGULAR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN WHILE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE IN THE CAR, A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY THAT WE HAVE HAD CONTINUAL "DESIGN FLAW" PROBLEMS WITH FROM VIRTUALLY THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT NEW. I HAD TO PAY CLOSE TO $535 TO GET THIS DOOR LATCH REPLACED!! AND AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORP. IN TORRANCE REFUSED MY REQUEST FOR ANY ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER!! I DO NOT THINK A DOOR LATCH SHOULD EVER HAVE TO BE REPLACED, ON ANY CAR, AS THIS IS PART OF THE BASIC CAR CHASIS/FRAME AND SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR. WE HAD NO CHOICE BECAUSE THIS DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL AND MY WIFE HAD TO CRAWL IN/ACROSS FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE DOOR TO GET IN UNTIL WE COULD GET IT FIXED. *TR
DRIVING ON I270 SOUTH TOWARDS 33 EAST AT 65 MPH WITH 4 TEENAGERS AND 1 8 WEEK OLD BABY IN MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY AND THE REAR SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR FLIES OPEN ON ITS OWN. MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT NEXT TO THE DOOR WHEN IT FLEW OPEN. IT SCARED HER HALF TO DEATH AS SHE WAS STARING AT THE PAVEMENT GOING BY AT 65 MPH. THE DOOR WASN'T EVEN ON. I TURN THEM OFF BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF THEM OPENING WHEN THEY SHOULDN'T AFTER HEARING ALL THE STORIES ABOUT THESE DOORS. IT'S A GOOD THING MY DAUGHTER HAD HER SEATBELT ON AND SITTING IN HER SEAT OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY TRAGIC. NO ONE DIED THIS TIME. WHY WILL HONDA NOT SEE THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE HERE. THE LATCH HAS BEEN REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES AND YET IT IS STILL FAILING TO THE POINT THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY SHUT ON IT'S OWN. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE DIES HERE!!! *TR
TRANSMISSION JERKING, TCS LIGHT ON, MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON, NEED TO REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. KNOWN PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL/MAKE/YEAR. *TR

THAT WORKED ON IT HALF A DAY TO FIND THAT THEY REALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND CAN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. NO REMEDY. TOOK TO A HONDA/ACURA SHOP TO HAVE LOOKED AT. SAME OUTCOME. SAID EVERYTHING LOOKS TO BE IN WORKING ORDER HOWEVER THEY COULDN'T DETERMINE WHY DOOR WAS NOT OPENING AND COULD NOT GET THE DOOR OPENED. CLAW THAT HOOKS TO LATCH WILL NOT RELEASE. DEALER SERVICE CENTER SUGGESTED CUTTING THE LATCH WITH PLASMA CUTTERS IN ORDER TO GET THE DOOR OPEN, HOWEVER THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN THEN. WE CAN'T FIND ANYONE WHO CAN FIX THE DOOR. WE ARE IN A SAFETY DILEMMA AS OUR 2 YEAR OLDS CAR SEATS SITS ON THIS SIDE OF THE DOOR. WHILE DRIVING RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN SUCH A FASHION THAT THE NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED AS THE BROKEN PIECE WAS PINCHED BETWEEN THE COILS. THE SPRING WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE BROKEN SPRING IS STILL IN THE CAR AND WILL BE SAVED. *TR
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY EX - EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION SLIP, FOLLOWED BY A JERK WHILE DRIVING. I THOUGHT IT WOULD NEED A FLUSH, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NOT REACHED THE HONDA MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. HAD THE MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND FLUSHED OUT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WITH NEW HONDA ATF. ISSUE STARTED ARISING A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE FLUSH AND IT BECAME A PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AGAIN AND FOUND OUT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS ROUGHLY CLOSE TO 82K MILES AND DEALERSHIP STATED THIS IS OUT OF THE EXTENDED 7YR WARRANTY PHASE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS VEHICLE IS UNDER THE CLASS LAWSUIT FOR '99-'01 ODYSSEY MODEL (HTTP://WWW.HONDATRANSMISSIONSETTLEMENT.COM/PHP/LOGIN.PHP), WHICH EXTENDS THE WARRANTY TO 109K MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (ROUTE 20, TRAVELING EAST, DOWN TOWN NORTHBOROUGH, MA, SPEED ~20 MPH) AS VEHICLE PASSED OVER A RAILROAD EXPANSION TYPE JOINT, THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. APPROXIMATELY .5 TO 1 SECOND AFTER LOUD METALLIC NOISE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED CAR OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG, CONTINUED HOME CAUTIOUSLY ~ 1/2 MILE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND A PIECE OF THE BROKEN COIL SPRING HANGING DOWN FROM THE LEFT FRONT HALF SHAFT. DISASSEMBLY OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL ALLOWED FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE BROKEN COIL SPRING. IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE BROKEN PIECE OF COIL SPRING HAD STRUCK THE ABS WHEEL SENSOR LINE, RIPPED THE LEFT FRONT OUTBOARD CV JOINT BOOT AND WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND THE HALF SHAFT. I FELT LUCKY IN KNOWING THAT THE BRAKE LINE THAT WAS ~ 2 INCHES TO THE LEFT OF THE ABS SENSOR APPEARED UNDAMAGED. HAD THE VERY SHARP BROKEN PIECE FROM THE DAMAGED SPRING HIT EITHER THE BRAKE LINE OR THE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE OR A TIRE BLOW OUT. HAD THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE SHARP BROKEN PIECE OF COIL SPRING WRAPPED AROUND THE HALF SHAFT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE, MOST LIKELY A CUT BRAKE LINE. IN TALKING WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY FELT THERE WAS / IS NO ISSUE (EVEN THOUGH I RAISED THE ISSUE OF SAFETY), YET MY OWN RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THE COIL SPRING ON THE ODYSSEY HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED IN THE PAST WITH NO FINDING AND MANY FAILURES ARE DOCUMENTED ACROSS THE INTERNET. REPLACEMENT OF THE COIL SPRING, STRUT, ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND CV JOINT BOOT ARE REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SINCE A SPRING FAILURE FROM THE LEFT SIDE HAS OCCURRED, THE SPRING ALONG WITH STRUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE WILL BE REPLACED AS A PRE-CAUTION. I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY EX ALONG THE LOMBARD STREET IN SAN FRANCISCO WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY FAILED. I HAD 2 CHILDREN AND 3 ADULT PASSENGERS IN THE CAR. I STOPPED AT THE INCLINED ROAD WAITING FOR OTHER CARS IN FRONT TO DRIVE UP. I THEN SWITCHED THE GEAR TO "2" HOPING THAT IT WILL BE ENOUGH TO DRIVE THE CAR. RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVANS AND MY 2000 MODEL APPEARS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE LIST THAT HONDA HAS EXTENDED THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 100K MILES.
