AUTOMATIC DOORS ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD DO NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY. SAFETY MECHANISM DOES NOT PREVENT DOOR FROM CLOSING ON CHILD. DOORS DO NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY AND ARE FAULTY. DOORS NEED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT AT 64K MILES DUE FAULTY EQUIPMENT. *JB
SECOND ROW SEAT BELTS DO NOT REMAIN IN LOCKED POSITION WHEN USING WITH AN INFANT CAR SEAT. THE SEAT BELT WILL REMAIN LOCKED FOR 1, 2, OR 3 DAYS. BUT WE HAVE FOUND THE BELT LOCKING MECHANISM TO EVENTUALLY RELEASE. CHECKING THE BELT TO SEE IT'S LOCKED AT THE START OF YOUR TRIP ONLY TO FIND AT THE END OF THE TRIP THE LOCK HAS RELEASED. SINCE THE VAN IS OUT OF 3 YR / 36,000 MI WARRANTY, WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE VAN IS MODEL YEAR 2000 WITH 32,000 MILES. *NM
DT: JUST CAME TO A STOP AND PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO GO AND IT WAS IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE HAD 98,000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. THIS HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2005. ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2005 PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND ON THE FREEWAY NOTICED IT WAS IN THIRD GEAR. HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER YET. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS BEEN REPLACED 2 TIMES AND NEEDS ANOTHER REPLACEMENT NOW. *NM
SLIDING DOOR FAILURES: 8/2005 PASSENGER DOOR FAILING TO OPEN. TOOK TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED DOOR CLOSER MOTOR ASSEMBLY. THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THE CAR HAS "OLD TYPE" DOOR SWITCHES AND THESE MOST LIKELY WILL FAIL AND THEN HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH "NEW" SWITCHES. COST $361.37 1/2006: DRIVER SLIDING DOOR FAILING TO OPEN. DEALER HAD TO REPLACE SLIDING ROLLER AND JUNCTION SWITCHES AND STOPPER. COST$ 631.35 HAVE HAD TO SPEND ALMOST $1000 IN 5 MONTHS JUST TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE SLIDING DOORS! *NM
BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR LATCH/CLOSERS FAILED. THE DRIVERS SIDE FAILED IN 02. AND THE LATCH WAS REPLACED UNDER THE WARENTEE. THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS FAILED RECENTLY, AUG. 05. THE FAILURE, AND REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AS DESCRIBED IN A 2000 HONDA RECALL ID # 00V119000, BUT, IN CONTACTING HONDA DIRECTLY, WAS TOLD MY VEHICLES VIN # WAS NOT A RECALL VEHICLE.
DT: THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE REAR CYLINDER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD SHOT GUN. THIS HAPPENED ON JULY 10, 2005. HAD NOT CHANGED ANYTHING UNDER HOOD. CONTACTED HONDA, THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO TOW VEHICLE TO DEALER. THE CONSUMER FIXED IT HIMSELF. IT MASSED UP THE IGNITION COIL, SHORTED OUT THE SYSTEM, AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. *AK
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY RECALL ISSUED/WARRANTY EXTENDED TO 7/100000 ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES, THUS VEHICLE HAS ITS FIFTH TRANSMISSION NOW. TRANSMISSION STILL NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. *NM
PROBLEM WITH 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MOTOR MOUNTS. VEHICLE WITH 70000 MILES. FRONT AND RIGHT MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED REPLACING. SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATES A VERY FREQEUNT OCCURANCE WITH HONDA ACCORDS AND ODYSSEYS POINTING TO A DESIGN DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. REPAIR EXPENSIVE TO OWNER. FAILURE CAUSES SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION OF ENGINE AND EVENTUAL PROGRESSION OF FAILURE TO OTHER MORE EXPENSIVE PARTS. TO FIX, PARTS WERE REPLACED.
OUR 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY IS ON ITS FOURTH SET OF BULBS FOR THE HIGH-MOUNT STOP LAMP FIXTURE. I NOTICE AN UNUSUAL NUMBER OF ODYSSEY MINIVANS WITH THESE LIGHTS OUT. I THINK THE FIXTURE MAY BE DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED.
CONSUMER DISSATISFACTION WITH HONDA CONCERNING NOTIFICATION OF RECALLS TO THE NEW OWNER OF THE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR (COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS/EGR PORT CLOGGING) THE CONSUMER FELT THAT HONDA SHOULD CARRY OUT IT'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR AT NO COST TO HIM. *SC THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD TO BE PERFORMED BY 80,000, HOWEVER THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE HAD OVER 93,000 MILES. *JB
ON MAY 17, 2005 WE PURCHASED 4 DUNLOP SP SPORT 4000 TIRES FOR OUR HONDA ODYSSEY. WE HAD 4 WHEEL FRONT DRIVE ALIGNMENT AND COMPUTER BALANCING. ON MAY 30TH, WE NOTICED A BUBBLE ON THE SIDE OF THE WALL. SINCE THE TIRES WERE ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD, WE WERE VERY SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED. WHEN WE CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL TIRE SHOP, THEY SAID THAT SUCH BUBBLES WERE NOT THE RESULT OF POORLY MADE TIRES, INSTEAD, BY ROAD HAZARDS. THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES OR OTHER NOTICEABLE MARKS ON THE TIRE, BUT THERE IS A RIP ON THE INSIDE, NEAR THE RIM. THE TIRE WAS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE.
AT BASEBALL GAME BALL HIT HIS WINDSHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE. WINDSHIELD SHATTERED INTO MILLIONS OF PIECES THAT WENT ALL OVER THE CAR. THE CONTACT FEELS THE GLASS IS NOT SAFETY GLASS.*AK *NM
THE MANUAL DOORS ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY CONTINUALLY GET STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION. I HAD IT LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND IT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM IN HOT OR COLD, WET OR DRY WEATHER. PEOPLE GET STUCK INSIDE, AND CAN'T GET OUT UNLESS THEY PUT THEIR SHOULDER INTO THE DOOR, AND PEOPLE GET STUCK OUTSIDE NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. IF THE DOORS WON'T OPERATE PROPERLY UNDER NORAML CONDITIONS, HOW LIKELY WILL THEY OPERATE IN AN ACCIDENT SITUATION? PLEASE INSTRUCT HONDA TO INITIATE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING INSTRUMENT DASHBOARD PANEL FAILED TO LIGHT UP. DASHBOARD FAILED TO DISPLAY IN ORDER FOR THE CONSUMER TO SEE PROPERLY, THIS CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY. THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE INSTRUMENT DASHBOARD PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *SC
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH IN COLD WEATHER, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION IS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THE OTHER GEARS SHIFT SMOOTHLY. HONDA STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 92,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE SLIDING DOORS ON MY VAN COME OPEN AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN CLOSED. I TOOK IT TO BE REPAIRED TWICE AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED THEN SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT THE PART THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED HAD BEEN RECALLED SO I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT MY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER DID NOT FALL INTO THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT SAID ALL HONDA ODYSSEYS 1999-2001 MY HONDA IS A 2000. HE SAID THAT I COULD HAVE IT REPAIRED MYSELF BECAUSE THIS WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN NOT A RECALL ANYWAY,THAT THEIR PARTS DON'T LAST FOREVER. THE LADY AT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMIN. AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE SAID THAT IT WAS A RECALL AND TO CONTACT THIS WEB SITE. *JB

HONDA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UNDER A RECALL AND IT FAILED AGAIN 50,000 MILES LATER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, A CHIME SOUNDED TO INDICATE THAT THE DOORS WERE NOT LATCHED. BOTH SIDE SLIDING DOORS WERE SHUT AGAIN, BUT THEY WOULD NOT FULLY LATCH. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 2-5 MPH, THE SLIDING DOORS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNSURE OF WHAT REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V119000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.

OVER THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF WEEKDS SLIDING SIDE DOORS ON THE VEHICLE WOULD OPEN ON THEIR OWN. THEN, THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. IT WOULD NOT OPEN WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT APPLICATION OF MANUAL FORCE. *AK
RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR HAS BEEPED ON AND OFF SINCE OWNING IT. NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. NOW THE DOOR WON'T WORK AT ALL. WE CANNOT CLOSE IT MANUALLY OR ELECTRICALLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT NEEDS NEW ROLLERS AND MOTOR AT A COST OF $1339.00. *AK
DRIVER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. DEALER MADE THE CORRECTION. CURRENTLY, THE DOORS JAM BY EITHER OPENING OR CLOSING HALFWAY CONSUMER HAD TO FORCE THE DOOR BY HAND.*AK

NORMAL FREEWAY DRIVING BACK FROM WORK. SUDDENLY, RIGHT-HAND REAR TIRE WENT FLAT. NO PUNCTURES ON THE TIRE, BUT ON THE SIDE OF THE TIRE, THERE IS A CRACK ABOUT 1 INCH LONG. WE BOUGHT THIS HONDA ODYSSEY IN 2000, STILL ORIGINAL TIRE WITH 26,000 MILES. IT IS A FIRESTONE AFFINITY TIRE, P215/65R16, DOT# VN2H AAA 140. *AK
00 V 119 000/ SLIDING DOOR LATCH: THE VAN'S AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WOULD OPEN WHILE IN MOTION. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THEIR VIN # WAS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL. *JB *TC
DT: THE CALLER SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENS WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING. THE INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON , AND THE ALARM GOES OFF. THE CALLER SAYS THE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY. HAD IT TO THE DEALER 10 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. DEALER SAID IT WAS DIRTY CONNECTIONS AND DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. MANUFACTURER WILL OFFER NO HELP FOR FREE. ALSO, THE CALLER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER CONCERNING GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE ( EGR VALVE). THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT APPROVE THE RECALL WORK. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR VEHICLE SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
DRIVER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR FAILS TO CLOSE COMPLETELY - SOMETIMES LEAVES APPROXIMATLEY A FOUR INCH GAP BETWEEN DOOR POST AND EDGE OF DOOR. DOOR MUST EITHER BE PUSHED CLOSED OR RE-OPENED COMPLETELY AND THEN CLOSED WITH PRESSURE ON REAR DOOR EDGE. OCCASIONALLY, DOOR WILL SEEM LOCKED (DASHBOARD OPEN DOOR INDICATOR LIGHT IS OFF) AND WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS, BOTH THE OPEN DOOR INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES AND CEILING MAP LIGHTS WILL FLASH ON AND OFF WHEN TURN HAS BEEN COMPLETED, THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF. AFTER READING ALL THE OTHER CONSUMER COMPLAINTS, I AM EXTREMLY CONCERNED THAT EITHER THE DOOR(S) WILL OPEN DURING DRIVING OR THE DOOR(S) WILL NOT OPEN DURING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. I CANNOT BELIEVE HONDA WOULD SUBJECT ITSELF TO THIS TYPE OF POTENTIAL LIABILITY.*AK
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW IMPLODED, SHATTERING GLASS ALL OVER MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN. THE POLICE OFFICER WHO STOPPED TO HELP US ASKED IF THE AIRCONDITIONER WAS ON, SAID THAT IF THE WINDOW WAS HOT ON THE OUTSIDE AND THE COLD ON THE INSIDE A WINDOW COULD SHATTER LIKE THAT. WE ARE REPORTING THIS INCIDENT TO HONDA AS WELL, THE WINDOW IS BEING REPLACED.*AK
POWER DOORS CONSISTENTLY FAIL TO OPERATE PROPERLY. PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENS WHILE DRIVING AND, OFTEN, CANNOT BE SHUT MANUALLY. THE LAST VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP, 2 DAYS AGO, THEY INFORMED US THEY WOULD REPLACE SOME OF THE DOOR PARTS. DESPITE 'FIXING' THE PROBLEM, THE DOOR WILL NOT SHUT AT ALL AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSORS SO IT NO LONGER BUZZES WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN. THIS IS A SEVERE PROBLEM. VAN HAS BEEN IN 12X FOR THIS PROBLEM. DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OFTEN DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL. *AK
WHILE TURNING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END DUE TO FRONT TIE RODS WEARING OUT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I HAVE HAD TWO UNIROYAL TIGER PAW TIRES BLOWOUT WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE INTERSTATE. THE BLOWOUTS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS APART WITH ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. WHEN THE FIRST TIRE BLEWOUT MY DAUGHTER WAS USING THE CAR AND THE TIRE STORE TECHICIAN SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE, BUT WOULD NOT SAY THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. WHEN THE SECOND TIRE BLEW, THE TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE AND WHEN SHOWN A PICTURE OF THE FIRST TIRE SAID IT WAS DEFECTIVE TOO. AFTER TALKING WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE AT UNIROYAL, THEY REPLACED THE REST OF THE TIRES. I HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE TIRES.*AK

I HAVE HONDA ODYSSEY 2000. TRANSMISSION BRAKE DOWN. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEED NEW TRANSMISSION IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS ON HONDA ODYSSEY 2002 AND LATER MODEL WITH TRANSMISSION WHICH THEY RECALLED TO FIX. I AM WONDER WHY THEY EXCLUDE 2000 MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *NM

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED, THE CHECK ENGINE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE OWNER THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
IN APRIL, OUR FAMILY TOOK A RIDE (SPEEDS TO 50 MPH). OUR VAN'S ENGINE BEGAN TO REV UP AT STOP LIGHTS TO APPROX. 5000 RPM'S. WE HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES VIOLENTLY IN ORDER TO STOP, THEN PARK. (DEPRESSING THEM ONCE DIDN'T SLOW IT DOWN ENOUGH.). *AK AFTER A FRIGHTENING DRIVE, AND SIMILAR EPISODES ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER (APPROX. 5 MILES AWAY), THE ENGINE HAD QUIT RACING. THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE ANYTHING, BUT MENTIONED THAT PERHAPS MY HUSBAND HAD PRESSED BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE GAS TO CAUSE THIS. NO WAY! NOT AFTER DRIVING THE VAN FOR FOUR YEARS. IN MAY, WE DROVE TO COLORADO (FROM INDIANA). AFTER THE FIRST 3 HOURS, WE PULLED OFF THE HWY., THE ENGINE ROARED WHEN WE SLOWED TO ABOUT 30 M.P.H.. AGAIN, WE PUMPED THE BRAKES, TERRIFIED THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO STOP. THE BRAKES ARE BARELY EFFECTIVE, ALTHOUGH THEY WERE JUST CHECKED. A COLORADO DEALER TRIED TO PUT THE VAN ON THE COMPUTER TO FIND A PROBLEM CODE, NONE EXISTED. THEY COULDN'T HELP. ONCE HOME,I BROUGHT THE VAN TO OUR DEALER AGAIN. THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NO SERVICE WAS LISTED ON THE RECEIPT (ALTHOUGH HONDA USA CLAIMS THEY DID SOMETHING WITH THE THROTTLE BODY DURING THAT VISIT). THIS WEEK, I WAS SLOWING DOWN AT A STOP SIGN, AND IT HAPPENED AGAINL. THE NEXT DAY, I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT (COLD ENGINE). ONCE STOPPED OR ALMOST, IT BEGAN REVVING (50000 RPM'S). I PUT IT INTO "PARK" AND IT SLOWED DOWN IMMEDIATELY. HONDA USA INFORMED ME THAT THEY CAN'T HELP ME. IF THE PROBLEM ISN'T DUPLICABLE IN THEIR SHOP(S), IT CAN'T BE DIAGNOSED. I AM TERRIFIED FOR THE LIVES OF MY 2 CHILDREN THAT FREQUENTLY DRIVE WITH ME. PLEASE UNDERSTAND: ONCE YOU ARE ABLE TO STOP THE VAN, AND PUT IT INTO PARK, IT NO LONGER REVS OR FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO TAKE OFF. THE PROBLEM VANISHES ONCE I STOP AT A DEALERSHIP. IT OCCURS ONLY SPORADICALLY. I NOTICED AT LEAST TWO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE; ONE DATED JULY 18, 2001, ANOTHER JUNE 12, 2000.
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH TRANSMISSION FAILED. AS A RESULT, CONSUMER COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS FAILURE INTERRUPTED THE VEHICLE'S MOVEMENT WITH ENGINE STILL RUNNING. DEALER STATED THEY WILL REPLACE THE PART WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT HER AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND IS STAYED ON. ALSO, SHE STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON BEFORE, BUT WENT OFF. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART TO REPAIR IT, AND IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 4 DAYS TO GET THE PART. *LA
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
ANOTHER CAR TURNED LEFT IN FRONT OF ME, WITH NO SIGNAL OR NO NOTICE. I HIT HER AND MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND MY SEAT BELT HELD ME FINE. MY KIDS WERE IN THE SECOND ROW SEAT WITH SEAT BELTS ON. THEY BOTH HIT THE SEAT IN FRONT OF THEM. I THINK THE HANDLES THAT ARE ON THE SEATS (BAD DESIGN). MY SON LOST 4 PERMANENT TEETH AND HAD LACERATIONS TO HIS FACE. MY DAUGHTER HAD A CONCUSSION AND NOW HAS A HUGE SCAR ON HER LIP AND CHIN. I GUESS THE SHOULDER STRAPS FAILED TO LOCK?*AK
WE HAVE A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT. GREAT CAR, EXCEPT THE POWER SLIDING DOOR LATCHES KEEP GIVING OUT. THIS HAPPENED DURING WARRANTY PERIOD TOO AND WAS RETURNED TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. HOWEVER, NO PARTS WERE REPLACED; THEY JUST RESET THE COMPUTER (CLEARED ERROR CODES). BUT THE PROBLEM RECURS. NOW HONDA HAS RECOMMENDED WE PAY $700 TO INSTALL NEW RE-DESIGNED LOCK MECHANISMS ( WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD). HONDA HAS NO OFFICIAL RECALL COVERING THIS PROBLEM FOR OUR VAN AS THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT DURING THE DEC-JAN PERIOD COVERED BY THE DOOR LATCH RECALL. BUT THE PROBLEM IS CLEARLY AFFECTING MANY MANY OTHER VEHICLES: WITNESS THE MANY HONDA SERVICE BULLETINS PUBLISHED ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN EITHER DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE DOOR LATCHES, IF NOT REPLACED/REPAIRED, LEAVE THE DOORS SUBJECT TO OPENING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IT SHOULD NOT BE THE OWNER'S PROBLEM TO FIX BY BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN REPEATEDLY TO CLEAR COMPUTER ERROR CODES OR PAY $700 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY LATCHES. THE LEFT AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR NO LONGER CLOSES ALL THE WAY ON ITS OWN (MISSES BY ABOUT 1/32") AND TO KEEP THE BUZZER FROM SOUNDING CONTINUOUSLY, YOU HAVE TO "BUMP" THE DOOR CLOSED WITH YOUR HIP. THERE IS ALSO A SMALL, SHARP POINT THAT IS TRYING TO WORK ITS WAY THROUGH THIS DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, AND IT'S GETTING WORSE. I TOOK IT TO HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY'VE SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND FIXING IT WOULD COST APPROX. $700. I ASKED "IF YOU'VE SEEN IT BEFORE, HOW COME THERE'S NOT A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM?", AND THEY SAID TO TALK TO THE MANAGER (WHO WASN'T THERE AT THE TIME), AND HE NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. ANYWAY, I NEVER GOT THE REPAIR DONE BECAUSE IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE. THEN THE NEXT WEEK MY OTHER DOOR STARTED BUZZING CONTINUOUSLY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS CLOSED ALL THE WAY. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THAT BUZZING WAS TO DISABLE THE DOOR ENTIRELY (USING THE DASHBOARD DOOR SWITCH). FOR SOME REASON, THAT PROBLEM STOPPED ALL BY ITSELF ABOUT A WEEK AFTER IT STARTED, AND HASN'T COME BACK....BUT I'M STILL STUCK WITH THE DOOR FROM HELL ON THE OTHER SIDE. SINCE THEN, I'VE GONE TO OTHER CAR COMPLAINT WEBSITES AND SEEN JUST HOW COMMON THIS PROBLEM IS WITH ODYSSEY SLIDING DOORS, AND THAT EVEN WHEN PEOPLE GET THE PROBLEM FIXED, IT SOMETIMES RETURNS WITH THE NEW INSTALLED EQUIPMENT TOO -- REQUIRING ANOTHER FIX FOR $700. CAN'T HONDA JUST RECALL THIS MODEL AND FIX THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL AT HONDA'S EXPENSE, IF IT'S SO WIDESPREAD?? I LOVE MY ODYSSEY, BUT THIS MAKES ME THINK TWICE ABOUT GETTING ANOTHER ONE (MY VERY FIRST ODYSSEY, A 1999 FIRST-YEAR MODEL, HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS (INCLUDING THE SAME SHARP POINT COMING THROUGH THE DOORS) THAT I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER A YEAR AND 1/2 AND SAID THEY'D BETTER SWAP ME OUT WITH SOMETHING BETTER BECAUSE I WAS FED UP. THAT'S HOW I GOT MY "NEW IMPROVED" ODYSSEY.*AK
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED IN HER VAN. THE WARRANTY FOR A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION IS 36,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS. *KB THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BAD AND THE THREADS TO THE OIL PAN SCREW WERE STRIPPED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS VEHICLE STALLED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH WITHOUT APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. *AK THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS EITHER DIRT OR CARBON BUILD-UP IN THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH CAUSED THE BUTTERFLY VALVE TO STICK. *JB
THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WOULD AUTOMATICALLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. INTERMITTENTLY THE SLIDING DOORS WOULD LOCK BY THEMSELVES, AND NOT OPEN FROM EITHER SIDE. ALSO, THE DOOR AJAR/OPEN ALARM REMAINED ON WHILE DRIVING, AND BOTH DOORS WOULD BE CLOSED. CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF THE SLIDING DOOR SWITCH TO TURN OFF THE ALARM, WHICH CAUSED BOTH DOORS NOT TO OPEN IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER. *AK
