CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS OF BATTERY POWER. (NAR) *PH *CB
SLIDING DOORS ON HONDA ODYSSEY (VAN) HAVE THE TENDENCY TO STICK AND NOT OPEN WITHOUT REPEATED EFORTS IF NOT USED FOR A DAY OR TWO. IN MANY INSTANCES THE HANDLE OF THE VEHICLE BROKE OFF. IT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS, INCASE OF AN EMERGECY THE CHILDERN IN THE CAR SEAT IN THE REAR OF THE CAR CAN NOT BE EASLY REACHED. THE MANUFACTURER IS WELL INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT GIVEN IT A SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.*AK
1)POWER SLIDING DOORS DO NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. INTERMITTENTLY, DOORS WON'T OPEN, DOORS OPEN PARTIALLY AND STOP, AND DOORS CLOSE PARTIALLY AND STOP. MORE IMPORTANTLY, POWER DOORS DO NOT STOP AND RETRACT WHEN PRESSURE IS APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUAL. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH TIME THAT ONE OF MY CHILDREN HESITATED WHEN EXITING THE VAN AND WAS STUCK WITHIN THE DOORWAY WHEN THE DOOR WAS AUTOMATICALLY CLOSING. NOT ONLY DID THE DOOR NOT STOP AND RETRACT WHEN IT REACHED MY CHILD'S BODY, BUT DID NOT STOP EVEN WHEN I PLACED THE FULL PRESSURE OF MY BODY AGAINST THE DOOR. TODAY, MY DAUGHTER WAS THROWN OUT OF THE VAN TO THE GROUND AND I INCURRED BRUISING ON MY LEFT SHOULDER WHERE I HAD BRACED MY BODY AGAINST THE DOOR TO STOP IT FROM ADVANCING OVER HER BODY. I HAVE REPORTED THESE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALERSHIP TIME AND AGAIN. IN 2000, THEY REPLACED SOME PARTS BUT THE PROBLEMS STILL OCCUR WITH REGULARITY. 2)SOME OF THE SEAT BELTS, PARTICULARLY THE ONE IN THE SECOND ROW, DRIVER'S SIDE, JAMS CONSTANTLY. WE ARE VERY OFTEN UNABLE TO USE THAT SEAT BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT GETS STUCK WHEN BEING DRAWN OUT TO BE BUCKLED. 3)THE REAR HATCH IS SOMETIMES INOPERABLE. THE UNLOCK BUTTON OF THE REMOTE MUST BE PRESSED 5 OR MORE TIMES FOR THE HATCH TO UNLOCK, AND EVEN THEN, IT RELEASES ONLY PARTIALLY. SINCE THERE IS NO RELEASE INSIDE THE CAR, THIS IS EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT AND COULD BE DANGEROUS, IN COMBINATION WITH THE DOORS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *JB
DOORS DO NOT SLIDE EASILY, THEY STICK AND I NOTICE A LITTLE BUMP PROTRUDING FROM JUST BELOW EACH HANDLE. NOW THE PAINT IS STARTING TO COME OFF WHERE THE BUMPS ARE!!*AK
BOTH OF MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY SLIDING DOORS COULD NOT BE OPENED TODAY. THEY GET STUCK VERY OFTEN. IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO MOISTURE GETTING INTO THE DOOR BECAUSE THEY GET STUCK MOST OFTEN AFTER BAD WEATHER. THE DANGER HERE IS IF THERE AN ACCIDENT AND THE DOORS CAN NOT BE OPENED TO GET OUT A CHILD FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE.*AK
PASSENGER REAR SLIDING DOOR STICKS. THE HANDLE BROKE WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR. I'VE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. MY FIRST VAN WAS COVERED UNDER THE LEMON LAW BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND OTHER SAFETY FACTORS. MY REPLACEMENT VAN HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 70,000 IN 2004 BECAUSE IT WENT OUT. NOW MY VAN HAS 150,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TRANSMISSION IN MY VAN. THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION CONSIDERING IT ONLY HAS 80,000 ON THE REPLACED TRANSMISSION. WHEN ONE PURCHASES A VEHICLE THEY ARE TRUSTING THAT THEY ARE PURCHASING A VEHICLE THAT WILL BE RELIABLE. I JUST WANT HONDA TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DEFECTED PARTS. *TR
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FAILED TO OPEN AFTER THE DOORS HAD BEEN UNLOCKED. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THIS MIGHT BECOME A PROBLEM IF A PASSENGER WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.*AK
WHILE DRIVING PASSENGER'S SLIDING DOOR INTERMITTENTLY OPENED. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO SHUT THE DOOR. DEALERSHIPS MECHANIC WASNOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
THE AUTOMATED POWER SLIDING DOORS ON OUR 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WE GET AN ALARM LIGHT ON OUR DASH INDICATING A AUTOMATED SLIDING DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY CLOSED, AND THEN WE HAVE TO REPEATEDLY HIT THE CLOSE DOOR BUTTON TO GET THE DOOR TO FINALLY ENGAGE. EVEN THOUGH ALL ODYSSEY'S MADE IN 2000 WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, HONDA MOTOR HAS TOLD US THAT OUR 2000 ODYSSEY IS NOT INCLUDED IN 2000 RECALL CAMPAIGN, AND WE WILL HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR IT OURSELVES. *JB
REAR BUCKET SEAT BUCKLE UNBOLTED FROM ITS STRUCTURE WITHOUT ANY IMPACT OR FORCE BEING APPLIED. *AK THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB. (THE ENTIRE HEAT A/C CONTROL PANEL WAS REPLACED), THE FRONT BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS HAD TO BE CUT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, AND GASOLINE WAS SMELLED EACH TIME THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. *SC *JB
SINCE PURCHASING A 2000 ODYSESSY EX, I HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH BOTH SLIDING DOORS. ONCE AGAIN TODAY, NEITHER DOOR WOULD OPEN. I HAVE HAD LATCHES REPLACED, HANDLES REPLACES, REMOTES REPLACED AND STILL THE PROBLEM IS AS BAD AS EVER. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR GENERALLY NEVER CLOSES PROPERLY AND THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CONSTANTLY FLICKERS ON AND OFF FORCING ME TO SHUT THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE OFF SO THEY STOP FLASHING. WHENEVER THE WEATHER IS DAMP OR COLD, THE DOORS WILL NOT WORK. TONIGHT I HAD THE CAR RUNNING FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR AND THE DOORS STILL WOULD NOT OPEN. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALER THERE IS EITHER AN ATTEMPT TO GET ME TO REPLACE EVERY CONCEIVABLE PART HOPING TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR THEY SIMPLY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR THIS SITUATION. NOT ONLY IS IT EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT TO GET 4 CHILDREN IN AND OUT THROUGH THE FRONT DOORS, BUT IT IS DANGEROUS. IF THERE WAS EVER A NEED TO QUICKLY EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM AN ACCIDENT OR OTHER SITUATION, IT OFTEN TIMES WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE SINCE THE DOORS WOULDN'T WORK. AFTER 18 MONTHS DEALING WITH THIS SITUATION, I'VE HAD ENOUGH. I THINK IT IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WHICH THE DEALERS SIMPLY CAN NOT FIX. I'M WILLING TO BET THE ORIGINAL OWNER TRADED IT IN BECAUSE OF THE SAME SITUATION BECAUSE IT STARTED FOR ME THE FIRST DAY WE OWNED THE VEHICLE. *LA
IN DECEMBER 2003, THE TRANSMISSION AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINI VAN. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND HAD ONLY 65,000 MILES ON IT--TOO SOON TO NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT HONDA HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS AND THE HONDA DEALER I TOOK IT TO ADMITTED AS MUCH. TO FIX THIS KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR VEHICLES, HONDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON TRANSMISSIONS ON MANY OF THEIR CARS INCLUDING MY YEAR MODEL AND MAKE. SO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT HONDA WOULD REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION FOR FREE. HOWEVER, WHEN THEY PULLED UP MY VIN I WAS GIVEN THE UNFORTUNATE NEWS THAT MY CAR HAS A CANADIAN VIN--A SUPPOSED "GREY MARKET VEHICLE" AND THAT HONDA VOIDS THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF A GREY MARKET VEHICLE. SO EVEN THOUGH MY HONDA ODYSSEY WAS MADE IN THE EXACT SAME CANADIAN PLANT WITH THE EXACT SAME SUB STANDARD TRANSMISSION AS THE CARS THEY ARE REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS ON, HONDA REFUSED TO PAY FOR MY TRANSMISSION. THIS IS IN MY OPINION A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT; WHEN MY TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING, MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE IN ACCELERATION. I WAS SO AFRAID THAT I WOULD PULL OUT IN FRONT OF SOMEONE OR BE TURNING AND MY CAR WOULDN'T GO AND THEY WOULD CRASH INTO MY VAN WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK. THANK GOD MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ABLE TO AFFORD THE $3200 BILL FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO DRIVE MY UNSAFE VEHICLE MORE THAN 2 WEEKS (ALTHOUGH THAT WAS TOO LONG IF YOU ASK ME). BUT I KNOW THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WITH THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO GET THEM FIXED RIGHT AWAY, SO THEY JUST DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THEY CAN AFFORD A NEW ONE. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE TO HAVE THOSE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. TO ME, HONDA SHOULD RECALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS; THEY ARE AN OBVIOUS THREAT TO EVERYONE'S SAFETY ON THE ROAD. THANK YOU. *CB
WHILE DRIVING AT 60MPH, WITH OUT ANY WARNING THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER STATED THE SWAY BAR CONNECTION BECAME LOOSE WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *PH
THE FUEL FILLER NECK HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK. AS A RESULT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON, AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO PASS INSPECTION. *AK A LEAK WAS COMING FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE FUEL FILLER PIPE. THE FUEL FILLER PIPE WAS REPLACED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE FUEL PUMP SEAL AND NUT. *SC *JB
DURING A RECENT (MILD) SNOW STORM, BOTH THE POWER SLIDING DOORS ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN REFUSED TO OPEN. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS, THE MOTORS OF BOTH DOORS GAVE UP ALTOGETHER; THE BEEPING SOUND THAT INDICATES THE BLOCKING OF DOORS ALSO STOPPED. WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, THE HANDLE BROKE OFF. I HAD THE DOOR MOTORS REPAIRED AT MY HONDA DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CONTACTS WERE MOIST AND THEREFORE THE DOORS DID NOT WORK. AT 42.000 MILES I THOUGHT THIS WAS ODD, BUT I COULD ACCEPT SUCH A DEFECT. I AM REALLY CONCERNED, THOUGH, ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF JUST LIKE THAT. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN (4 AND 5). THE YOUNGEST CANNOT GET OUT OF HIS CAR SEAT BY HIMSELF AND I COULD NOT GET TO HIM QUICKLY. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. I NOTIFIED HONDA ABOUT THIS AND I HEREWITH REPORT THE ISSUE. I HOPE THAT HONDA WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY FOR THESE MATTERS. I CONTACT THE NHTSA ALSO, SINCE I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE. I KNOW THAT I DID NOT APPLY ANY UNREASONABLE FORCE TO THE DOOR HANDLE TO MAKE IT BREAK. I CAN EASILY IMAGINE SOMEONE (IN A PANIC?) DOING THE SAME. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO SHIFT IRREGULARLY WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES TO NO AVAIL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
REAR DOOR LATCH WILL NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT THE LATCH BE REPLACED DUE TO A WORN PART.*AK
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY LX MANUAL SLIDING DOORS "STICKING" PROBLEM SOLUTION: A) AFTER ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR, AND IT ONLY "POPS OPEN" SLIGHTLY AND STICKS; B) FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE, PUSH OUTWARD ON THE UPPER CORNER (OF THE SLIDING DOOR) WHICH IS CLOSEST TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD PUSH OUTWARD EASILY, AND THE DOOR SHOULD SLIDE OPEN FREELY. C) APPLY LUBRICANT TO THE UPPER REAR CORNER OF THE WEATHER STRIPPING RUBBER: TRY SILICON GREASE, OR SILICON SPRAY LUBRICANT, OR GRAPHITE POWDER, OR TALCUM POWDER. PROBLEM SOLVED. NO MORE STICKING WHEN RE-OPENING THE PREVIOUSLY STUCK DOOR. ITS PROBABLY THE PHYSICS OF THE PRESSURE OF THE DOOR AGAINST THE RUBBER CREATING SUFFICIENT FRICTION TO PREVENT THE DOOR FROM "POPPING" COMPLETELY AWAY FROM THE RUBBER WEATHER STRIPPING AND THUS PREVENTING THE DOOR FROM SLIDING OPEN. *LA
REAR HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP IS OUT AND INSTRUMENT INDICATOR FAILS TO LIGHT INDICATING BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT. *LA
THIS IS THE FIRST INCIDENT THAT I HAVE ON RECORD REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. I HAVE SEVERAL SERVICE RECORDS WITH RICK CASE HONDA IN DAVIE FLORIDA REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION. IN 12/08 I HAD TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION COST 1298.00. I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY HONDA THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE 2000 ODYSSEY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. ON JUNE 23 2010 WHILE TRAVELING FROM CANADA ON I-95 THE TRANSMISSION BLEW WITH HEAVY THICK BLACK SMOKE WHICH OBSCURED MY VISION. THICK BLACK OIL SPEWED EVERYWHERE AND WE WERE TRAVELING THROUGH MACON GA. THE VEHICLE BEGAN HESITATING AND IT STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HEAVY TRAFFIC ON I-95. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER BECAUSE ANOTHER VEHICLE COULD HAVE CRASHED RIGHT IN BACK OF US. I HAD MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE CAR, MY WIFE AND 4 CHILDREN AGES 16,15,11,9. I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR OFF OF THE RAMP. WE WERE GREATLY INCONVENIENCED AND HAD TO STAY IN MACON GA FOR TWO ADDITIONAL DAYS AND IT COST ME ADDITIONAL 525.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION THAT I JUST REPLACED IN DEC 2008. HONDA NEVER INFORMED ME ABOUT THE 2000 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF SINCE SEPT 2002. IN JAN 2007 I COMPLAINED YET AGAIN OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME DEALERSHIP. ON 11/26/11 THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURNPIKE WHICH IT BEGAN TO SMOKE AND SPEW OIL. AGAIN THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD HAVE CRASHED IN BACK OF MY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR OFF THE RAMP AT BIRD ROAD AND CALL AAA. THE CARE IS AT RICK CASE HONDA. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
POWER SLIDING DOORS OPENS BY ITSELF. DEALER REPLACED LATCHES. PROBLEMS STILL EXISTED. CALLED AND SPOKE WITH MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT PROBLEM AND I ASKED FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON DOORS. NO RESPONSE. CALLED DEALER TO FIX PROBLEM. DEALER WILL NOT DO REPAIRS UNLESS THEY SEE THAT DOORS ARE OPENS BY ITSELF. ALSO, SOMETIMES POWER DOORS WILL NOT CLOSE FULLY IN. SOMETIMES POWER DOORS BUZZER WILL COMES ON OCCASIONALLY. IT'S ANNOYING. I THINK THE DEFECTIVE DOORS ARE UNSAFE ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN. I NEED A LIFE TIME WARRANTY ON DOOR PROBLEMS. ALSO FAN BLOWER IS NOISY AT MEDIUM TO HIGH SPEED. DEALER FIX ONCE.PROBLEM ARISES AGAIN. 80-85% OF THE TIME THE FRONT BRAKES ARE GRINDING. NEW PADS, SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING FRONT PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR OPENED, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO PULL OVER TO CLOSE THE DOOR. RECALL . THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT REPAIR BECAUSE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED.*AK
SHIFT LEVER MOVES OUT OF PARK WITHOUT KEYS IN IGNITION. *LA
TRANSMISSION FAILURE: SLIPPING AND JERKING DURING LOW SPEED AFTER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING. SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND DOWN SHIFTING AROUND 3RD GEAR. CONFIRMED BY DEALERSHIP AS FAULTY TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. NOT BEING COVERED BY MANUFACTURER'S EXTENDED 7 YEAR WARRANTY SINCE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY MARKETED FOR CANADA DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AT BEAVERTON HONDA IN OREGON. *LA
REAR SLIDING DOORS STICK AND WILL NOT OPEN. DEALER HAS GREASED THE SEALS MANY TIMES. THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM SOR ONLY A SHORT TIME. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS PASSENGERS IN THE REAR CANNOT GET OUT IF THE DOORS ARE STUCK. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED VIBRATION AT ANY SPEED WHILE DRIVING. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. *AK
THE CHILD WAS STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLIDING DOOR WHEN IT CLOSED WITHOUT THE OWNER PRESSING THE CLOSE BUTTON. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC HAD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *JB

REPEATED ENGINE MOUNT FAILURE. NO EXPLAINABLE CAUSE. VEHICLE IS NOT 3.5 YEARS OLD.*AK
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. ON AUGUST 2ND, I WAS PUMPING GAS AT A GAS STATION ON THE NORTH SIDE. THE GAS NOZZLE WAS IN THE GAS TANK. THE SLIDING AUTOMATIC DOOR IS NOT SUPPOSED TO COME OPEN WHEN GAS IS BEING PUMPED, HOWEVER IT DID. I TRIED TO STOP THE DOOR, BUT COULDN'T, ENDED UP CUTTING MY HAND, THE DOOR JAMMED, THE PUMP WAS STUCK, GAS CAP HOLDER CAME UNDONE AND COULDN'T GET THE GAS DOOR SHUT. MY PAINT IS SCRATCHED ON THE GAS DOOR AND THE GAS DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED WITH THE GAS LEVER RELEASE BUTTON INSIDE THE CAR. AN ATTENDANT AT THE STATION CAME TO HELP, BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SEVERE FIRE HAZARD.*AK
WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER BUT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *NLM
THE VAN TRANSMISSION SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS DELAYED IN ENGAGING, THEN IT SUDDENLY LUNGES FORWARD. HAD IT CHECKED OUT, TECH SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH TRANSMISSION. VAN HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE UNTIL NOW IT SLIPS CONSTANTLY. SINCE IT HAD UNDER 100,000 WHEN IT STARTED DOING THIS IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY HONDA BUT THEY WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT HONDA MINIVANS CONSISTENTLY ARE BEING BROUGHT IN FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *JB

HAVE HAD POWER SLIDING DOORS LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. EACH TIME DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, TILL NOW. DOOR AJAR BUZZER WOULD SOUND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FROM DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. TURNING OFF POWER SWITCH SILENCED THE BUZZER & DOOR SEEMED OK. LATELY, THE DOOR WAS NOT LOCKING. DEALER DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM, REPLACED JUNCTION CONTACTS WITH "UPGRADED" ONES. THEN NOTED THE CLUTCH MOTOR THAT CLOSES THE DOOR DID NOT COMPLETE THE JOB & THAT THE DOOR WAS NOT LATCHING! HE DID NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD OPEN ACCIDENTALLY. WE HAVE PLACED 2 CALLS TO HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA, WITHOUT RESPONSE, LOOKING FOR AN EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY TOWARD THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS MOTOR. STILL WAITING FOR RESPONSE AFTER 6 DAYS.
MANUAL SLIDING DOORS STICK TO THE POINT THAT OCCUPANTS CANNOT GET OUT OF THE CAR. IT HAS TAKEN TWO LARGE ADULTS (ONE PULLING FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE OTHER KICKING FROM THE INSIDE) TO OPEN THE DOORS. PROBLEM BEGAN IN SUMMER, 2003. WE BROKE AND HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THE DOOR HANDLES IN 11/04 BECAUSE WE WERE PULLING SO HARD TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. COMPLAINED WHENEVER WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE, BUT OUR COMPLAINTS NEVER APPEAR ON OUR INVOICES. THEREFORE, ACCORDING TO HONDA, THERE IS NO RECORD OF A PROBLEM WITH OUR DOORS. HONDA'S RECOMMENDATION HAS BEEN TO LUBRICATE THE DOORS, BUT WE NEVER NOTICE ANY IMPROVEMENT IN THE PROBLEM. MY DEALER JUST INFORMED ME THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED RECOMMENDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DOOR SEALS AT A COST TO US OF NEARLY $400. AS A "GOODWILL" GESTURE, THEY HAVE OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS, BUT WE WILL PAY NEARLY $200 TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA SHOULD CORRECT, BUT AS THE PROBLEM AROSE AFTER OUR 30,000 MILE WARRANTY, THEY FEEL THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I KEEP THINKING ABOUT MY CHILDREN BEING TRAPPED, PERHAPS WITH THE CAR ON FIRE, AND WONDER HOW HONDA CAN TREAT THE ISSUE SO CASUALLY. *NM
I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF BRAKE PADS IN THE JUST UNDER 45000 MILES. I TOOK MY VAN TO TWO LOCAL BRAKE STORES AND THE DEALER. I TOLD THEM ALL THE SAME INFORMATION I WAS HEARING GRINDING WHEN I STOP. JUST BRAKES TOLD ME THE CALIPERS ON MY VAN WERE NOT RETRACTING. THIS CAUSED MY BRAKE PADS TO GLAZE BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE I WAS ALWAYS APPLYING MY BRAKES. THEY ALSO DISCOVERED MY BRAKE PADS WERE CRACKED. THEY ALSO HAD A LIST OF OTHER THINGS THAT HAD TO BE RESURFACED BECAUSE OF WEAR. THEIR ESTIMATE FOR THIS WORK WAS JUST OVER $400. IT WAS TIME FOR MY 45,000 MILE MAINTENANCE, SO I TOOK MY VAN TO GOODSON HONDA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I TOLD THE DEALER MY CALIPERS WEREN'T WORKING. IT HAD CAUSED MY BRAKE PADS TO CRYSTALLIZE AND I WANTED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE DEFECT IN THE CALIPERS AND TO FIX MY BREAK SYSTEM UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THIS DEFECT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CALIPERS AND THE BRAKES SHOULD LAST ANOTHER 5000-7000 MILES. WHEN I ASKED WHY THE PADS WERE GLAZED, THEY SAID BRAKES USUALLY DO NOT LAST 45,000 MILES. WHEN I TOLD THEM IT WAS MY SECOND SET OF BRAKE PADS, THEY SAID IT COMES FROM RIDING THE BRAKE. I LIVE PRETTY FAR OUT FOR THE HOUSTON AREA AND MY JOB REQUIRES ME TO DRIVE ALONG A WELL SURFACED COUNTY ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO STOP AND GO DRIVING. THE DEALER DIDN'T CATCH THE CRACKED BRAKE PADS AND ADMITTED THAT THEY HADN'T EVEN CHECKED THE PADS. I HAD MY BRAKES REPAIRED YESTERDAY AT A LOCAL BRAKE CHECK. THEY OILED THE CALIPERS, (THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE STICKING) REPLACED MY CRACKED BRAKE PADS, AND RESURFACED MOST EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE SYSTEM AT A COST OF $234.
WHEN DRIVING FROM VA TO MI, GOING THROUGH MOUNTAINS OF PA, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWN SHIFT FROM 4TH TO 3RD. AS I PROCEEDED DOWN LONG STEEP MOUNTAIN GRADES, BUT ONLY AFTER I TOUCH THE BRAKES JUST A BIT. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 3 TIMES. THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH TRANSMISSION. THEN I FIGURED IT WAS AN INGENIOUS DESIGN IN KEEPING THE CAR WITHIN A REASONABLE SPEED. ONCE I REACHED LEVEL GROUND AND PUT MY FOOT GENTLY ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR UPSHIFTED TO 4TH AND OVERDRIVE WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSIONS YET. YET! ADVICE: DRIVE IN 3RD GEAR WHEN DRIVING AROUND TOWN. ONLY PUT GEAR SHIFT INTO 4TH WHEN YOU KNOW YOU'LL BE DRIVING AT 50+ MPH FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I TOO HAVE HEARD THE CLATTERING IN THE ENGINE BAY WHEN THE ENGINE RUNS AT ABOUT 1500-1700 RPMS, SO I KEEP IT IN 3RD GEAR UNLESS I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 32000 MILES ON 2000 ODYSSEY AND NO PROBLEMS YET. I AM THE SECOND OWNER. FIRST OWNER BOUGHT 100,000 MILE WARRANTY FROM WARRANTY DIRECT UPON PURCHASE BACK IN 2000, WHICH WAS TRANSFERABLE TO ME WHEN I BOUGHT IT JUST AFTER CHRISTMAS 2002. *PH

FROM THE NEXT DAY THE ACCELERATOIN DROPPED AND STARTED HEARING NOISE/VIBRATION WHEN THE TRANS SHIFTS FROM 1 TO 2. CALLED AMERICAN HONDA, THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DO, SINCE ITS A CANADIAN VEHICLE. CALLED CANADIAN HONDA, THEY SAID THE WARRANTY IS GOOD ONLY IF ITS WITHIN CANADA. HONDA WHICH IS SUCH A BIG COMPANY, SHOULD NOT PLAY SUCH CHEAP TACTICS WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS. I AM STILL TRYING TO GET SOME ANSWER FROM HONDA.

HAD THE DOOR LATCH BREAK ON RIGHT SIDE AND WAS REPAIRED. THEN HAVE ON GOING ISSUES OF TRYING TO OPEN THE SLIDING DOORS. AT TIMES YOU COULD NOT OPEN EITHER SLIDER DOORS WITH OUT TRYING TO GET TO RELEASE BY PULLING ON IT WHICH YOU HAD TO OPEN THE OTHER DOOR AND EITHER TRY PULL IT OR PUSHING ON THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. HUSBAND CAME HOME THEN FORGOT HE HAD TO BE VERY GENTLE WITH DOOR OR THAT COULD NOT BELIEVE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN THEN BROKE THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR HANDLE OFF. NOW IT HAS NO HANDLE AT ALL. CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND SAID IT WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID. HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WHEN TO HAVE IT REPAIR SAID DOOR LATCH WOULD BE COVERED. THEN WAS TOLD SINCE IT WAS A DESIGN FAULT (WELL KNOW) IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. SINCE THEN I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND IM THE PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD COVER THE LABOR COST AND NOT THE PART COST. AFTER REVIEWING HOW MANY TIMES SOME ONE HAS TAKEN THE TIME TO FILE IT HERE. CONCERN WHY IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. AS IT STANDS NOT COMFORTABLE ABOUT THE FACT THE SIDE DOORS DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY, IF SOMETHING HAPPENED WERE MY CHILDREN WOULD HAVE TO EXIT THE VAN QUICKLY. DID CALL HONDA TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. WAS TOLD IT MAY TAKE 3 DAYS. *NLM

THE SLIDING DOORS ON MY ODYSSEY HAVE FAILED THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO THE DEALER HAS BEEN REPLACING THE MOTORS AND LATCHES. THE CONCERN IS THEY ARE NOT LATCHING AFTER THEY FAIL. THE OTHER CONCERN WAS THEY TRIED TO TELL MY WIFE THAT SHE NEEDED TO PULL ON THE TOP OF THE DOOR TO RELEASE THE TENSION SO NOT TO BURN OUT THE MOTOR. $26,000 AND WE NEED TO PRY THE DOORS OPEN? I LOCK THEM MANUALLY NOW BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT THEM OPENING WHILE TRAVELING.
