2000 HONDA ODY TRANS HAS FAILED FOR 3RD TIME. ORIGINAL WENT BAD AT 75K. COMPLAINED ABOUT IT 1ST AT 34K. DEALER SAID FOUND NO PROBS. NOW AT 75K WE ARE ON 3RD REBUILT TRANS TO BE PUT IN NEXT WEEK. 1ST 2 REBUILT ONES DIDN'T LAST 10 MILES BEFORE SAME LOUD CLUNK IN REVERSE STARTED AGAIN. HONDA NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO REPLACE THIS PROBLEM WITH NEW TRANS, NOT REBUILT ONE, AND 3/36 WARRANTY. I DIDN'T PAY TOP DOLLAR FOR A CAR TO HAVE A 3 REBUILT TRANS BY 75K. IT IS APPARENT THAT REBUILTS AREN'T ANY BETTER THAN ORIGINAL TRANS. THE 100K EXTENSION OF WARRANTY IS USELESS. HONDA CALLS IT 'GOODWILL'. SOUNDS MORE LIKE WILLINGFUL NEGLECT & FRAUD. LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS FILED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ALREADY.
THROTTLE STICKS WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE. THE VAN WILL ACCELERATE AFTER APPLYING ADDITIONAL PRESSURE, BUT IT IS NOT A SMOOTH ACCELERATION. RESULT IS GOING FROM 0 MPH TO 20 MPH WITHOUT GRADUAL ACCELERATION. THROTTLE HAS BEEN CLEANED IN THE PAST, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WORSEN. DEALER RECOMMENDS COMPLETE BREAK DOWN OF THROTTLE WITH BUTTERFLY VALVE BEING CLEANED.

WE HAVE HAD THREE TRANSMISSION FAILURES WITH THIS ODYSSEY. TWO WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE LAST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 50K MILES, SO IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE 36K WARRANTY. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT A VEHICLE COULD GO THROUGH THREE TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD OPEN. THE DOOR DOES NOT LATCH. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PH
CLEAR DRIVING CONDITIONS. NO WATER, OIL OR MUD ON PAVEMENT. DRIVER WAS ATTENTIVE. I HAD STOPPED IN TURN BAY, CROSSED OVER THREE TRAFFIC LANES TO SIDE STREET. THEN IMMEDIATELY MADE A LEFT TURN INTO PARKING LOT AND A RIGHT TURN INTO PARKING SPACE. AS I ENTERED PARKING SPACE THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY DECELERATION, JUMPED A SMALL CURB AND HIT A TREE. I NOTICED AN ODOR OF BURNING OIL OR RUBBER AT IMPACT. THE HONDA DEALER CHECKED THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECT AND THEN DENIED ANY LIABILITY FOR ACCIDENT. SINCE THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, AND I KNOW THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I AM AFRAID TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND BE A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM TO NHTSA. THE DEALER REFUSED TO BUY THE VAN BACK AT ANY PRICE EVEN AFTER THE DAMAGE WAS RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION. DT

VEHICLE REAR-ENDED PART WAY INTO RIGHT TURN PUSHING VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED AT STOP SIGN. RIGHT FRONT OF OUR VEHICLE COLLIDES WITH PARKED VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY ENGINE BEGINS RACING AND OUR VEHICLE, THROUGH QUICK MANUEVERING BY MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE RACES DOWN THE HIGHWAY. APPLYING BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS THE PASSENGER AND I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE ABOUT 500 FEET DOWN THE ROAD. IN ADDITION TO THE RACING ENGINE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF DRIVE WHEN WE FINALLY STOPPED. AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED ALTHOUGH THE IS EXTENSIVE RIGHT FRONT END DAMAGE. IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON A RURAL HIGHWAY, AND THE ROAD WAS CLEAR. THE ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE IN FRIENDSHIP/ADAMS WI. VEHICLE TOWED ON 18 OCT TO HYTECH CARSTAR IN ELGIN, 847.742.6969. OUR INSURANCE IS STATE FARM. DT
TIRE SIZE P215/65R16, DOT NUMBER M30D 99JX 2800, MICHELIN TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH ABOUT 21,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN DRIVING ON A REGULARLY DRIVEN 30-40 MILE ROUTE. NOTICED THAT THE REAR RIGHT TIRE AT THE END OF THE RIDE HAD BLOWN OPEN ON THE SIDEWALL AREA OF THE TIRE. MR
REAT SHOCK FAILED. TOLD HONDA THAT IT WAS MUCH EARLIER THAN SHOCKS USUALLY FAIL. NO SATISFACTORY ANSWER OR HELP OFFERED. MR

THERE WAS A SLIGHT OIL LEAK AT THE JOINT OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION AND THE SEALS WERE REPLACED. WHEN PULLING FROM A STOP SIGN, THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLANKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE COLUMN, ALSO THERE WAS A SQUEAK COMING FORM THE REAR SUSPENSION, THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE A LEAK FROM THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER.*TS *JB
I AM FAMILIAR WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO DEMAND A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES. THE DEALERS KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT ARE MISLEADING CONSUMERS BY DENYING ANY KNOWLEDGE OF SUCH ISSUES.THIS IS A BLATANT MISREPRESENTATION OF THE TRUTH, AND THE MANUFACTURER ALONG WITH THE DEALERS ARE DECEIVING OWNERS ABOUT THE TRANS. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 33000 MILES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD. NLM
TRANSMISSION STARTED TO CLUNK RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (12/01) AND THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON REPEATEDLY STARTING IN MARCH 02. *AK
THERE WAS A CREAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER LEFT SIDE SLIDING DOOR WHEN A TURN WAS MADE, THE SLIDING DOOR FAILED ON 2 OCCASIONS, WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGERS TO HAVE TO ENTER THROUGH THE DRIVER LEFT SIDE SLIDING DOOR. *AK *JB

AUTOMATIC DOORS FAIL. THE DOOR COULD NOT BE CLOSED COMPLETELY. THIS IS THE SECOND DOOR TO FAIL. HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE DEFECT AND TOLD ME THE WOULDN'T FIX THE SECOND DOOR UNTIL IT FAILED. IT DID SO WHILE I WAS 100 MILES AWAY FROM HOME. *AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION OF 25-30 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A DIRECT HIT ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT WAS WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *YH
REAR SLIDING DOOR STICKS AND IS HARD TO OPEN DOOR FOR CONSUMER TO ENTER OR EXIT THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPAIRED 6 TIMES AND THE SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. *AK *YH
VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND HONDA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT USED TRANSMISSION, CONSUMER BELIEVES THIS PROBLEM IS IN ADDITION TO THE MANY OTHER PROBLEMS THEY HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. *YD
WHEN THE ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CLOSES IT WILL NOT LATCH SECURELY. YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY PUSH IT IN ORDER FOR IT TO LATCH. SEVERAL 2000 ODYSSEYS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SYMTOM, HOWEVER, MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT MAKE A GOODWILL REPAIR. A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH HONDA BUT THEY STATE IF THEY APPROVE REIMBURSMENT FOR REPAIR IT WILL ONLY BE PARTIAL.
2000 HONDAY ODYSSEY W/40,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS PLUGGED AND WOULD OVERHEAT. TWO WEEKS LATER THE PART CAME IN AND THEY THEN ADVISED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSORS WERE ALSO BAD. ARE THESE UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY?
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH LINCOLN TUNNEL OUT OF NYC, BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY STOPPING POWER WITH THE FLOOR BRAKE (FRONT DISK W/ABS). FORTUNATELY, I WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TUNNEL AT THE TIME AND WAS ABLE TO USE A COMBINATION OF GRAVITY, DOWNSHIFTING, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW SPEED AND GET TO THE NEAREST REST AREA AFTER A FRIGHTENING THREE MILE JOURNEY. AAA TOWED THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM THE FOLLOWING DAY, AND HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA WAS EXTREMELY UNPLEASANT WHEN WE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE AWAITING THE REPORT FROM THE HONDA MECHANICS AT THIS TIME, BUT ARE NOW SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, WE'D HAVE HAD A MAJOR COLLISION. 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN'S TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE VAN WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 1999 AND HAS 51,200 MILES ON IT. THE VAN HAS HAD ALL THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE. A NEW VEHICLE WITH ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND PROPER CARE SHOULD NOT HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FAILING ALREADY. HAVE TALKED WITH HONDA MECHANIC WHO SAYS THAT 2000 V6 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN'S HAVE A KNOWN TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT HONDA MOTOR COMPANY IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY OR DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT DALLAS AREA HONDA DEALERSHIPS ARE SEEING MORE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEYS VANS WITH FAILED TRANSMISSIONS. FAY OIA HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED ON YOUR NHTSA AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD FAILED TRANSMISSIONS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL. WE WANT HONDA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND FIX THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE ALL 2000 V6 HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SLIDING AUTOMATIC DOOR WOULD NOT REMAIN CLOSED AND AS A RESULT, THE INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HER VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 00V119000 ( LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH) AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 162,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
PASSENGER SIDE REAR POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY. DOOR SLIDES FULLY SHUT, BUT THEN REVERSES ABOUT 1/2INCH AND IS VISIBLY NOT LATCHED/CLOSED. ALSO AT TIMES WHEN DOOR DOES VISUALLY CLOSE ALL THE WAY, WHILE DRIVING THE AUDIBLE WARNING NOISE FOR AN OPEN DOOR COMES ON BUT THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR DOES NOT SHOW WHICH DOOR. DEPRESS THE 'CLOSE' BUTTON ON THE RIGHT SIDE POWER DOOR WILL SILENCE THE ALARM WHILE DRIVING, YET THE PROBLEM RECURS....IT'S TOUGH TO DRIVE WITH THAT [XXX] NOISE BLARING AND YOU ALSO WONDER IF THE DOOR IS REALLY SHUT AND SAFELY LOCKED? I'M TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 5/30/02, BUT BASED ON THE COMPLAINTS SHOWN ON NHTSA WEBSITE FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS, I AM UNCERTAIN WHETHER IT IS EVEN POSSIBLE TO SATISFACTORILY AND COMPLETELY FIX IN ONE VISIT. I'M 12 MILES FROM PASSING THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON THE VEHICLE...CALLED THE DEALER WHEN I WAS 450 MILES AWAY BUT COULDN'T GET APPT. UNTIL 6 DAYS LATER...I CANNOT PARK THE VEHICLE JUST TO MAKE SURE I DON'T GO OVER 36,000 MILES.... I'M ALSO WONDERING IF THEY DO FIX, WILL FUTURE FIXES IF SAME OCCURS OR IF NOT FIXED SATISFACTORILY WILL BE COVERED AS THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TRUNK HANDLE CABLE FELL OFF. *YH
ON SUNDAY, APRIL 28 THIS YEAR, OUR VAN WENT INTO A WEIRD SHUDDERING DANCE AS I GOT ONTO THE SAW MILL ON-RAMP FROM I-287 EAST OF THE TAPPAN ZEE. THE CAR HAD APPARENTLY SLIPPED SLIGHTLY BUT INSTEAD OF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS SYSTEMS KICKING IN, THERE WAS A FAILURE OF ALL THE CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENTS REQUIRED TO BRING THE CAR TO A SAFE HALT. THE CAR STOPPED BECAUSE I HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES (THE REGULAR HYDRAULIC BRAKES). THE DEALER, CURRY HONDA IN YORKTOWN, SAID THAT THE RIGHT REAR SENSOR HAD FAILED AND REPLACED IT SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE WRITTEN HONDA TWO TIMES. IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRST LETTER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM AND THEY ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED. I ASKED THEM TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY BY ANOTHER THREE YEARS, REPLACE MY FRONT BUMPER, AND TO DO A COMPLETE SAFETY INSPECTION. THERE RESPONSES TO MY COMPLAINTS WERE COLD. I WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT IN THE HOPE THAT ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR NEAR CATASTROPHIC FAILURES IN THEIR VANS WE CAN GET HONDA TO DO THE RIGHT THING. I WILL SEND YOU COPIES OF MY LETTERS TO HONDA WHEN I SEND IN THE SIGNATURE CARD.*AK
MY WIFE STOPPED TO GET SOME GAS. THE VAN WAS STOPPED WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THE WENT TO TURN THE FUEL CAP AND JUST TURNED IT WHEN FLAMES SHOOT OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ABOUT 12-18 LONG . MY WIFE SAID IT WAS LIKE A BLOW TORCH. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE VAN ALSO WHO IS HANICAPPED AND HAD TO CRAWL AWAY FROM THE VAN BECAUSE MY WIFE THOUGHT THE VAN MIGHT BLOW UP. I CONTACTED HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT.*AK
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS DUE TO CARBON BUILDUP ON THROTTLE BODY. PEDAL REQUIRES ADDITIONAL TRAVEL IN ORDER TO PROVIDE RESPONSE FROM ENGINE. AS A RESULT, EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED ON THE ACCELERATOR, CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE SUDDENLY AND MORE RAPIDLY THAN NECESSARY. SUDDEN ACCELERATION HELPED CONTRIBUTED TO DAMAGE IN A REAR-END COLLISION AT A STOP SIGN. THE THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN CLEANED TWICE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE AND NEEDS TO BE CLEANED AGAIN.*AK

WE WERE BEING BLAMED FOR OVERFILLING THE GAS TANK. WE DO NOT DO THIS. FINALLY MECHANICS FIND ANOTHED CHECK CODE INDICATING THE FUEL FILLER NECK HAS A VACUUM LEAK. 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. THROTTLE HAS BECOME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS DURING INITIAL ACCELERATION. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES UNEXPECTED RATES OF ACCELERATION. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING IN PEDESTRIAN AREAS SUCH AS SCHOOL AND SHOPPING PARKING LOTS. DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM AND CLEANED THROTTLE BODY. PROBLEM RETURNED WITHIN 5000 MILES. WHEN I BUMPED A METAL SIGN IN THE WALMART PARKING LOT ON FEB 18 2002 DRIVING 5 MPH, MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELTS FROZE. I FOUND IN THE MANUAL THAT THEY ARE ONLY SUPPOSE TO DEPLOY UPON MODERATE TO SEVERE IMPACT. I ALONG WITH 3 OTHER BODY SHOPS AND MY INSURANCE, STATE FARM, FELT THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FAULTY AND NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, DEMONSTRATING HOW LIGHTLY THE SIGN WAS HIT. REPLACED SOLENOIDS IN TRANS AT 62000K THEN A WEEK LATER REPLACED TRANS/TORQUE CONVERTOR (500 OUT OF POCKET) WITH FACTORY REBUILD TRANSMISSION 10,000 MILES LATER AT 72000 HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WON'T LAST AND NEXT TIME I WILL HAVE TO BEAR TOTAL COSTS. THESE TRANSMISSION DON'T LAST. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS REPLACED TRANSMISSION MORE THAN ONCE WITH LOW MILEAGE. I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY LX. THE CUP HOLDER IN THE REAR SEAT DOES NOT HOLD THE CUP PROPERLY AND OFTEN FALLS OFF. THIS HAS CAUSED BEVERAGE SPILL ON THE PERSONS IN THE CAR AT THAT TIME. AT LEAST TWO OF THE SPILLS WERE FROM HOT BEVERAGE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOT A RECALL. INTERESTINGLY THEY HAVE CHANGED THE CUP HOLDERS IN THEIR NEWER MODELS. *LA
