TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED THREE TIMES. HE IS CURRENTLY ATTEMPTING TO GET HONDA TO REPLACE IT FOR THE FOURTH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WILL PAY 50% OF THE REPAIR COST; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE OTHER HALF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,454.
HONDA ODYSSEY 01 EX MODEL, POWER SLIDE DOORS. MANY TIMES IN THE PAST YEARS, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SLIDING DOOR ALARM CHIMES OR THE DOORS FAIL TO CLOSE/OPEN. WHILE DRIVING THE SLIDING DOOR ALARMS SHOWS THAT THE DOOR IS OPENED AND BUZZES. THIS CAUSES US TO STOP CAR AND CHECK THE DOORS WITH NO CLUE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. A FEW TIMES, THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED AND HAD TO BE OPENED MANUALLY. HAD TO USE EXTREME FORCE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS IS OK IF ONLY ONE SIDE FAILED, BUT BOTH DOORS FAILED LAST WEEK. I RESET THE FUSE BUT THAT ONLY FIXED ONE DOOR LEAVING THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR LOCKED. *NM
THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT ON MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS BECOME FRAYED ON ONE SIDE. I AM AFRAID THIS HAS COMPROMISED ITS STRENGTH AND SAFETY. HONDA REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, A CLUCK NOISE WAS NOTICED FROM THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHEN IT WAS SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES WAS CANCELLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO INFORMED THE CANCELLATION WARRANTY EXTENSION WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT A USED VEHICLE DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD IT AS A SALVAGED VEHICLE, WHICH WAS TOTALLY REPAIRED AND CERTIFIED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AS SAFE TO BE OPERATED.
THE SLIDING DOORS ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY WILL NOT OPEN. AT INTERMITTENT TIMES THE SIMPLY CEASE TO WORK. THIS CREATES A TERRIBLE SAFETY PROBLEM AS THE PASSENGERS CANNOT EXIT THE CAR, NOR CAN ANYONE GET INTO THE CAR IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AND STOPPING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS WHEN THE CONTACT RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR OTHER SERVICES AND WAS INFORMED THAT HIS TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER MADE THE REPLACEMENT FOR FREE. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. WITH LESS THAN 19,000 MILES ON THE NEW TRANSMISSION, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AGAIN FOR FREE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE FAILURE RECURS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,234 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,910. UPDATED 08/20/08 *BF THE CONSUMER HAS HAD 3 TRANSMISSION WITHIN SIX YEARS. THE TIMING BELT WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE WATER PUMP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. UPDATED 08/21/08. *JB
MY AIR CONDITIONER IN MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY STOPPED BLOWING COOL AIR, SO I TOOK MY VAN IN TO MY DEALERSHIP. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SOMETHING SIMPLE. BUT, APPARENTLY A ROCK MUST HAD HIT MY CONDENSER AND CAUSED A LEAK. MY CONDENSER HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH ENDED UP COSTING $750. THIS WAS A 5 HOUR JOB. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER HONDA ODYSSEYS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *NM
HEADLIGHT PLASTIC LENS ARE DETERIORATING (BECOMING UNCLEAR,FOGGING) TO THE POINT THAT IT LIMITS THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT THROUGH TO SEE WHERE YOUR GOING AT NIGHT. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, A DING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR SIDE DRIVERS WINDOWS AS IF A PEBBLE HAD BEEN THROWN AT THE WINDOW, THEN THE SIDE REAR WINDOWS IMPLODED SHATTERING IN PIECES. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND DETERMINED THE SHATTERED WINDOW WAS NOT CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE WINDOWS WERE NOT REPLACED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO EVALUATE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE WINDOWS TO IMPLODE. UPDATED 11/30/06.*JB
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT AND LOST ALL GEARS. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CHECK ENGINE AND OTHER LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION AND POWER STEERING WIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ON JULY 6 ,2006 THE SHIFT SOLENOID WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS HAD 4 TRANSMISSION'S. UPDATED 09/19/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR DID NOT CLOSE ALL OF THE WAY. THE DOOR HAD TO BE CLOSED MANUALLY. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CENTRAL ROLLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. OVER THE YEARS, THE CONTACT HAD TROUBLE WITH BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SLIDING DOORS IN COLD WEATHER.
HONDA 2001 TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE IS NUMBER 2. FIRST ONE WAS REPLACED AT 42,000 AT NO CHARGE IN JULY 2006. NOW AT 79,000 THE SECOND ONE IS FAILING AND HONDA WANTS $5000 FOR A REPLACEMENT. HELP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT WHEN IT CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE JERKED AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 15 MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT UPSHIFT. WHEN IT DID, IT SHIFTED VIOLENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND IT WAS REPLACED ONCE AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40-45 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SURGE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,342 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 210,152.
POWER SLIDING DOORS FAIL TO FUNCTION PROPERLY REQUIRING COSTLY REPAIRS. SERVICE DEPT. AT DEALERSHIP INFORMS ME THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM REQUIRING CORRECTION WITH THESE VEHICLES (PARTICULARLY THIS MODEL YEAR).
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF JUST BEFORE ALL POWER FAILED IN THE VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER 5 MINUTES AND WAS DRIVEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD VIOLENTLY ONCE IT DID SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY AND ON JUNE 24, 2006, HONDA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT PAID $1,092 FOR THE REPAIR, PLUS LABOR FEES. ON OCTOBER 24, 2007, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT UPSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR AND WOULD SHIFT DIRECTLY INTO SECOND OR THIRD GEAR. THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1,786 FOR THE SECOND REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 210,312 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,342. TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AT 116,000 MILES. DAVID HOBBS DEALER (MILWAUKEE) COULD NOT DUPLICATE. COMPLETE FAILURE AT 178,000 MILES. REBUILT AT MY COST OF $1900. FAILED AGAIN. AT 231,000, REBUILT AGAIN. AT 237,500 MILES SLIPPING AGAIN ON 1/3/12. HONDA SHOULD HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM AND PROVIDED A FREE REPLACEMENT TRANS AT ORIGINAL START OF PROBLEM. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM, BUT ONLY A MATTER OF DISAGREEMENT WITH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER CONCERNING PAYMENT OF REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. UPDATED 06/07/2006. *AK *TS
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT THE SHIELD UNDERNEATH THE BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE HIT THE CEMENT BARRIER CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RADIATOR AND THE AIR CONDITIONER. THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING COOLANT AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN ALERTED.
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY STALLED WHILE DRIVING. *TS THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. IT WAS THE SECOND TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS ALSO EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND SLIDING DOORS. *JB
FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A RAW GAS SMELL IN THE CABIN OF OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN CONSISTENTLY OVER THIS TIME. THEY SMELL IT TOO BUT CAN'T FIND IT. WE HAVE PAID TO HAVE REPAIRED EVERYTHING THEY HAVE SAID IT WAS AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. GOOGLE SHOWS ABOUT 4800 POSTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA OF AMERICA SAYS THEY ARE DONE LOOKING FOR THE PROBLEM AND SAYS TOO BAD. THE SMELL LASTS ABOUT 2-4 MINUTES AND HAPPENS SOMETIMES EVERY DAY, SOMETIMES TWICE A WEEK AND SOMETIMES WILL SKIP A COUPLE OF WEEKS. WHEN WE HAVE FRIENDS IN THE CAR, THEY ARE ALL AFRAID AS WE ARE THAT THE CAR WILL CATCH ON FIRE. IT LEAVES US SICK TO OUR STOMACH AND HEAD. *TR
IN OUR DIRVEWAY WE FOUND A METAL CIRCLE, ABOUT 1/2 " IN THICKNESS, ABOUT 8" IN DIAMETER, APPARENTLY MADE OF IRON, WHICH WAS A RUSTED THROUGH, A BIT TWISTED AND OBVIOULSY SNAPPED IN ONE SECTION. WE DISMISSED IT AS GARBAGE. THREE WEEKS LATER WE HEARD A NOISE ON OUR VAN & BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON EXAMINATION OF OUR VAN, THE MECHANIC BROUGHT OUT ANOTHER PART TAKEN FROM OUR VEHICLE IDENTICAL IN CONDITION AS THE ONE FOUND IN OUR DRIVEWAY. HE SAID IT WAS A FRONT SUSPENSION SPRING AND THE VAN, A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH APPX 58500 MILES, WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *NM
THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING ON OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN WITH APPROX. 56,000 MILES IS BROKEN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE MADE PUBLIC BECAUSE MY NEIGHBOR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN. *JB SEE ALSO 10212265 *DSY
REAR MANUAL SLIDING DOORS STICK CLOSED. IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR PASSENGERS TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE FOR RESCUE. TOOK TO DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THEY PUT TAPE ON THE DOOR SEALS. THIS WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. THE SECOND TIME THEY PUT GREASE ON THE DOOR SEALS. THIS WAS EFFECTIVE FOR A SHORT TIME. *JB

DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE SPRINGS, STRUTS, SEALS...ETC. COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF FRONT SUSPENSION PARTS. {BOTH SIDES} RON AT EXT. 118038 AT AMERICAN HONDA STATED THAT PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE. AMERICAN HONDA PAID FOR ALL PARTS BUT NOT LABOR. TOTAL BILL OVER $2,000! *NM
FRONT RIGHT SPRING FRACTURED CAUSING THE SHOCKS TO FAIL ALSO. REPAIRS TOTALING $699.37 INCLUDED REPLACEMENT OF FRONT RIGHT AND LEFT SPRING AND FRONT SHOCKS. *JB
TRANSMISSION FAILURE 2 TIMES @ 76000.00 MILES DEALER SAID THEY REPLACED TRANSMISSION BUT @125000 MILES IT GAVE OUT AGAIN WORST THAN LAST TIME SHOP THAT DID WORK 2ND TIME SAID DEALER ONLY REPLACED CONVERTER ? DO NOT UNDERSTAND NOT VERY HAPPY. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE PULLED SHARPLY TO THE LEFT. FORTUNATELY, THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A RURAL ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE DEALER WHERE THE SHOCK, STRUT AND BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. *NM UPDATED 2/9/2006 - *NM
ON 12/28/05 THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE ON OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY LX WITH 79,662 MILES. THIS OCCURRED ON A RESIDENTIAL SIDE STREET AT LOW SPEED. THE VEHICLE PULLED SHARPLY TO THE LEFT, HOWEVER, THIS WAS CONTROLLABLE. NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED AS THE SPRING BROKE CLEANLY AND COLLAPSED VERTICALLY (TIRE, STRUT, STRUT TOWER ARE FINE). THIS WAS REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE BY OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER. AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT I NOTED THAT THIS SEEMED UNUSUAL, HOWEVER, I'M NOT SURE IF THE DEALER NOTIFIED AMERICAN HONDA OF THE ISSUE. I'M AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE OTHER SPRING AND PLAN ON CALLING HONDA TO DISCUSS. *JB
A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS AND DEADLY DEFECT IN THE SPRINGS OF 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINI-VANS. ON DECEMBER 9, 2005 WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE DRIVER-SIDE SPRING OF MY ODYSSEY SUDDENLY FAILED AND BROKE INTO TWO PIECES. THIS CAUSED MY VAN''S STEERING TO IMMEDIATELY PULL HARD TO THE LEFT AND INTO THE OTHER LANE IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED TO MY VAN OR TO OTHERS. WE REPLACED THAT SPRING AT OUR EXPENSE AND VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE REMAINING SPRING SHOWED NOTHING UNUSUAL. WE WERE TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT SPRING FAILURE IN RELATIVELY NEW CARS WITH AN NORMAL OR EASY DRIVING HISTORY WAS VERY RARE. WE CHALKED UP OUR EXPERIENCE TO A FLUKE. ON JANUARY 12, 2006 THE PASSENGER-SIDE SPRING SUDDENLY FAILED AND BROKE INTO TWO PIECES. AGAIN, THIS OCCURRED WHILE AT VERY LOW SPEED, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL WHILE THE STEERING PULLED STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT, AND NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED. AGAIN, WE ARE REPLACING THAT SPRING AT OUR EXPENSE. TO HAVE A FAILURE OF A SPRING IS A HIGHLY UNUSUAL EVENT FOR A ''YOUNG'' CAR WITH LOW MILEAGE AND AN EXCELLENT MAINTENANCE RECORD. TO HAVE TWO SUCH FAILURES WITHIN ONE MONTH OF EACH OTHER IS DEEPLY DISTURBING AND LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE SPRINGS. THIS FACT PRESENTS A GRAVE THREAT TO THE SAFETY OF NOT ONLY THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF HONDA ODYSSEYS, BUT OF OTHERS WHO MAY BY HIT BY A VAN WHICH HAS CAREENED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR OFF THE ROAD. *NM
TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND ENGAGING VIOLENTLY AND FINALLY DIDN'T WORK. *TR
WHILE CAR SHOPPING AT A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP WE OBSERVED THAT THE POWER SLIDING DOORS ON A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY DO NOT HAVE ANY EMERGENCY STOPPING MECHANISM SHOULD AN ARM OR OTHER BODY PART BE IN THE WAY OF THE DOOR WHEN IT IS CLOSING. MY HAND WAS IN THE DOOR WHEN IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE AND IT WAS SLIGHTLY PINCHED. I MOVED AWAY FROM IT AVOIDING SERIOUS INJURY. WE TESTED THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THIS AND IT RESPONDED THE SAME WAY EACH TIME. IT DID NOT STOP UNLESS THE KEY FOB WAS USED. WHEN WE POINTED THIS OUT TO THE SALESMAN WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WERE THE FIRST PEOPLE THAT HAD NOTICED THIS. IF YOU PULL ON THE DOOR HANDLE FROM THE EXTERIOR IT INITIATES THE DOOR CLOSING AUTOMATICALLY. FOR A SMALL CHILD THAT MIGHT USE THAT HANDLE AS A METHOD OF ENTRY THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. SUDDENLY, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. THE INTENSITY IS ANYWHERE FROM A MODERATE BUMP TO ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE TIRES TO ??SQUEAL?? AND LOOSE TRACTION. THE SAME SENSATION OCCURS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO THE NEXT GEAR. IN REVIEWING THESE CONDITIONS ON THE INTERNET, THE REPAIR IS A REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE OBD CODE IS A P0740. HONDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY AND VOLUNTARILY REPLACING THIS TRANSMISSION FOR VEHICLES ORIGINALLY DESTINED AND SOLD WITH IN THE US. MY HONDA WAS PURCHASED IN THE US AND IS REGISTERED IN THE US [NORTH CAROLINA] BUT WAS ORIGINALLY DESTINED AND SOLD IN CANADA. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE MINE TRANSMISSION SINCE IT IS WHAT THEY TERM A GRAY?? VEHICLE [A TERM HONDA USA USES TO REPRESENT VEHICLES THAT ARE NOW IN THE US, BUT WERE DELIVERED TO A CANADIAN DEALER]. HONDA HAS SAID THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION IS IF THERE IS A RECALL FROM THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, SOMETHING THEY DO NOT EXPECT TO OCCUR SINCE THEY ARE VOLUNTARILY DOING IT FOR US VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN THE US AND IS REGISTERED IN THE US AND SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME AS OTHER US VEHICLES. ACCORDING TO INTERNET SEARCHES THIS CAN EVOLVE TO FAILURE MODES OF SUDDEN DOWN SHIFTS WITHOUT NOTICE AND AT ANY SPEED. CURRENTLY THE FREQUENCY OF THIS CONDITION OCCURRING IS NOW 60% -70% OF THE TIME. THE SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD THESE SYMPTOMS AND HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED VOLUNTARILY INDICATE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH A POTENTIAL FATAL FAILURE MODE. SINCE A RECALL IS THE ONLY MECHANISM TO REMOVE THE DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES, A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED THAT REQUIRES ALL 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY REGISTERED IN THE US SHOWING THESE SYMPTOMS TO HAVE THEIR TRANSMISSION REPLACED. 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER STATES TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS AND DISSATISFACTION WITH HONDA DEALER. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T SWITCH GEARS SMOOTHLY AND IT MADE NOISES. FIVE MONTHS LATER, THERE WAS A WEIRD VIBRATION ABOVE 35 MPH. THE NOISES WERE STILL PERSISTENT, THE D4 LIGHT WAS FLASHING, THE CHECK ENGINE AND TSC LIGHTS WERE FLASHING. THE DEALER PERFORMED SOME WORK ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION. OCTOBER 18, 2006 THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FROM 3RD TO 2ND GEAR WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONSUMER A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED WHICH WOULD COST $4,200. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION FLASH SINCE THE CONSUMER REFUSED TO PAY FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. AFTER THE FLUSH, THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO PERFORM MUCH BETTER. HOWEVER, OCCASIONAL GEAR SLIPPING AND NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION COULD BE HEARD FROM TIME-TO-TIME. NOVEMEBR 27, 2007 THE VEHICLE BECAME SLUGGISH, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK ENGINE AND TSC LIGHTS WERE FLASHING, THERE WERE NOISES COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND THE CONSUMER ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND TSC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. *JB
AT 83,000 MILES THE SECOND TRANSMISSION ON MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILED (REGISTERED IN MY WIFE'S NAME, LYNN ROESSLER). ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 43,000 MILES IN 2003 AND WAS REPLACED BY HONDA UNDER WARRANTY. IN JULY 2005 THE SECOND TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, D4 LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK, TCS LIGHT CAME ON. RETURNED CALL TO HONDA DEALER, WHO AGAIN REPLACED TRANSMISSION AND LEFT INBOARD JOINT. I DO NOT KNOW IF I HAVE NOW HAVE A NEW OR REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE TWO TRANSMISSIONS I HAVE HAD SO FAR HAVE LASTED, ON AVERAGE, ABOUT 41,000 MILES.

TRANSMISSION DEFECT, FAILURE OF DEALER TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY
WE PURCHASED A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY FROM GARCIA HONDA AND STILL OWN THE VEHICLE, HE VIN IS [XXX]. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VAN HOME WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE 2ND ROW SEATING. SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM ACADEMY ROAD (IN ALBUQUERQUE), ONTO VENTURA (NORTH) WHEN SUDDENLY THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW IMPLODED INTO A PILE OF GLASS, ALL OVER THE CAR. MY WIFE THOUGHT THE WINDOW HAD BEEN SHOT OUT OR OTHERWISE MALICIOUSLY DESTROYED FROM SOME EXTERNAL SOURCE, AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE POLICE FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE FILED A POLICE REPORT ABOUT THE INCIDENT AND HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED VIA ALLSTATE INSURANCE. NO PROJECTILES WERE FOUND IN THE VEHICLE, AND WE JUST HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED AND WENT ABOUT OUR BUSINESS. AT NIGHT ON LEAVING OUR SON'S BIRTHDAY PARTY AT HINKLE FAMILY FUN CENTER, AND MERGING ONTO I-40 WEST AT JUAN TABO (MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY), THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WINDOW IMPLODED (BY ITSELF) INTO ANOTHER PILE OF GLASS, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND SHOOTING GLASS ALL OVER MY WIFE (DRIVING) AND THE INSIDE OF THE CAR (WHICH HAD THREE OTHER CHILDREN IN IT AT THE TIME), CAUSING SOME SMALL CUTS ON HER ARMS, AND RUINING THE CLOTHES SHE WAS WEARING. THIS IS WAY TOO BIG OF A CO-INCIDENCE FOR BOTH OF THESE PASSENGER WINDOWS TO JUST SELF DESTRUCT BY THEMSELVES ON THE SAME VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY EX MINIVAN. WHEN AT A STOP, FACING UPHILL IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACKWARDS AS SOON AS YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. IT ROLLS AS IF IT WERE A VEHICLE WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, OR AS IF YOU WERE IN NEUTRAL. PARKED FACING DOWNHILL, THAN STARTING IN REVERSE (BACKING UP THE HILL) THE SAME PROBLEM PRESENTS ITSELF, BUT IT IS EVEN WORSE. THIS HAS LED TO SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS AS WE HAVE ADJUSTED TO THIS UNUSUAL SITUATION, AS ALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AUTOMOBILES WE HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST DOI NOT BEHAVE IN THIS MANNER. THEY "HOLD" ON HILLS, AT LEAST MOMENTARILY, WHEN THE BRAKE IS RELEASED AND THE AUTOMOBILE IS IN DRIVE. I WONDER HOW MANY ACCIDENTS THIS DEFECT HAS CAUSED WHILE THE DRIVERS DISCIOVERD THIS FLAW AND ADJUSTED THEIR DRIVING HABITS (IT'S A LOT LIKE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). I CONTACTED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER, AND THEY SAID THIS IS "NORMAL" WITH THESE VANS AND ACCORD AUTOMOBILES.

WE HAD TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUES AND AS A RESULT OF A VOLUNTARY RECALL BY AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY, OUR TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILT UNIT IN APRIL 2005. THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 78,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF REPLACEMENT. WE NOW HAVE 202,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE IS EXHIBITING THE SAME SHIFTING PROBLEMS AS BEFORE. I CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT HONDA IS NOT OFFERING ANY "GOODWILL" WITH RESPECT TO REPLACING THE TRANSMISSIONS. MY CONCERN IS THAT HONDA REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION IN 2005 WITH A REBUILT, UNMODIFIED (NOT REDESIGNED) TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ ON INTERNET FORUMS THAT NUMEROUS BUYERS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD 2,3 EVEN 4 REPLACEMENTS. WHAT IS BEING DONE BY NHTSA TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM? 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY LX FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE. THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. WHEN THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE SPRING FORM THE VEHICLE, IT WAS FOUND COMPLETELY FRACTURED AND JAGGED IN VARIOUS PLACES. *SC *JB
AT APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION ON MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILED. THIS REPAIR WAS COVERED BY AN EXTENSION OF THE BASIC WARRANTY OF 36,000 MILES AS HONDA IS AWARE THAT THE TRANSMISSION THAT THEY ORIGINALLY INSTALLED WAS DEFECTIVE. THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION HAS NOW FAILED AT 67,000 MILES AND WAS ALSO REPLACED BY HONDA. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED WITH ANYTHING BUT THE SAME FAULTY TRANSMISSION. I REQUESTED HONDA TO EXTEND THE NEW TRANSMISSION'S WARRANTY PERIOD TO 100,000 MILES FROM THE TIME OF REPLACEMENT BUT WAS REFUSED MY REQUEST. I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE AWARE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED AND ARE INSTALLING DEFECTIVE PARTS IN MINE AND OTHER VEHICLES. I WOULD REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA LOOK INTO OTHERS (AS THERE ARE MANY) REPLACED TRANSMISSIONS AND FIND OUT IF MY EXPERIENCE IS UNIQUE OR PART OF A TREND. I CAN BE CONTACTED TO SUPPLY EVIDENCE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED PROPERLY AND THIS FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO FAILURE TO FOLLOW GUIDELINES OF THE MANUFACTURER. *JB
