VERY NOISY SQUEAL REAR BRAKES WHEN NOT WORN. STARTLING WHEN BRAKING. SO LOUD THAT THEY MASK THE WARNING NOISE THAT THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE WHEN THEY WERE ACTUALLY WORN, THUS MAKING WARNING NOISE INEFFECTIVE. LOCAL HONDA DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS AN OBNOXIOUS PROBLEM ON 01 ODYSSEYS. HONDA AMERICAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TSB BUT REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS ON GROUNDS THAT IT WAS A "CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE". *TR
CONSUMER SMELLED A FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL CAMPAIGN# 04C002000, CONCERNING THE HARNESS STRAP. NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. *AK THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS IN LATE NOVEMBER. *SC *JB
THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK WITHOUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE OR THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
THE MIDDLE ROW SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVES SIDE HAS BROKEN/MALFUNCTIONED TWO TIMES IN UNDER TWO MONTHS!! IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BOTH TIMES FOR REPAIR. MY 51/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS BEEN IN THE SEAT BOTH TIMES WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED. THE SEAT BELT LOSES TENSION (FEEDS ALL THE WAY OUT ONTO HER LAP) AND THEN LOCKS. WE ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT ON OUR OWN. EACH TIME WE TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT. *NM
BOUGHT VEHICLE 2001. FIRST TRANSMISSION WENT SUMMER OF 2004. HONDA PAID TO REPLACE. SECOND TRANSMISSION WENT SUMMER 2009. WE PAID TO REPLACE. TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. VEHICLE HAS 157,000 AND IS 10 YEARS OLD. *TR

TRANSMISSION SHIFTING INCORRECTLY. ON ACCELERATION, WILL SLIP THEN SUDDENLY CATCH PRODUCING A SHOCK AND SPINNING WHEELS. ON DECELERATION, WILL DOWNSHIFT AND GRAB ABRUPTLY, PRODUCING A SHOCK OR SHAKING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER LUTE REILEY HONDA REFUSED TO FIX IN JUNE, 2004. SEVERE SHOCKS FROM TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAVE NOW CAUSED ENGINE MOUNTS TO FAIL. *JB
AT 53,000 MILES/2 YEARS, GEAR SHIFTS WERE SUDDENLY DELAYED, SUDDEN, NOT HAPPENING RESULTING IN UNRELIABLE PERFORMANCE AND DRIVING HAZARDS BUT NOT ACCIDENT HAPPENED PRIOR TO TAKING TO DEALERSHIP. FIRST TRANSMISSION REPLACED UNDER EXTENTED WARRANTY (7YR/100,00 MILES) ISSUED BY HONDA DUE TO RECOGNIZED WORKMANSHIP PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS. AT 81,000 MILES/3 YRS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCED SAME PROBLEM. SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACED UNDER SAME EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL LIKELY BE EXCEEDED WHEN/IF I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM A THIRD TIME AS I PUT APPROXIMATELY 25-30,000 MILES ANNUALLY. I SEE FROM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND I DON'T WANT TO BE PAYING FOR ANY REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSIONS IN THE FUTURE. CAN SOMETHING BE DONE SO THAT EACH REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION MUST CARRY A NEW 7YR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY? *AK
HONDA IDENTIFIES THAT DRUM BRAKES ON HONDA ODYSSEY ARE PROBLEMS. FOR OVER TWO YEARS, WE FOUGHT WITH DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND THEY ESSENTIALLY KEPT IGNORING COMPLAINTS OF LOUD SQUEELING (LIKE A SEMI-TRUCK) WHEN BRAKING. WE PAID FOR PADS AND THEY PAID FOR DRUMS IN FEB. AS OF SEPT., WE HAVE THE SAME CONDITION BACK WITH THE SQUEELING. HONDA HAS KEPT THIS PROBLEM SILENT AND WE NEED TO BRING THIS INTO THE SPOTLIGHT.*AK

CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER'S AUTOMATIC DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. THE DOOR CAN OPEN ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE DOOR'S SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK......*AK
VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING FROM PARK TO GEAR WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL. EVENTUALLY COMPLETE FAILURE OF SWITCH MEANT USING THE MANUAL RELEASE FOR TH ENGAGEMENT OF GEAR. UPON IDENTIFYING THIS FAILURE, IT IS NOTED THIS SWITCH ALSO CONTROLS THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE REAR EXTERIOR OF VEHICLE, AND PRESENTED A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. NEW SWITCH WAS PURCHASED AND INSTALLED, PROBLEM ELIMINATED. EXACT SAME PROBLEM OCCURED AT SAME MILEAGE ON 1999 VEHICLE FROM SAME MANUFACTURER, AND WAS SOLVED BY REPLACING THE SAME PART. *AK
WE HAVE OWNED THE ODYSSEY FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS. THE CLOCK LIGHT HAS BURNT OUT TWICE, A HEATER LIGHT ONCE, THE PASSENGER HEAD LIGHT ONCE, AND THE DASH INSTRUMENTAL PANEL WENT DEAD AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IT CAME BACK ON AFTER I HIT THE GAS. DEALER CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE DASH INSTRUMENTS SO THEY CANT FIX IT. EITHER HONDA HAS LOW QUALITY BULBS SINCE NONE OF THESE LIGHTS HAVE EVER BURNT OUT IN ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED OR THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ALSO, WE BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BUMPER TO BUMPER COVERAGE. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO 2 DEALERS AND THEY HAVE SAID OUR WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER OUR PROBLEMS. I FEEL LIKE I GOT SCAMMED. NORMALLY, I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT 1 BULB BURNING OUT BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE A PATTERN HERE AND HONDA SHOULD FIND OUT WHAT IT IS AT THEIR COST. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ODYSSEY IS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED YET AGAIN ON THE 2001 ODYSSEY VAN. WE CALLED HONDA US TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. HONDA'S ONLY REPLY IS THAT THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND THAT THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DO ANYTHING ADDITIONALLY. WE APPEALED TO HONDA ON SEVERAL FRONTS, INCLUDING THE POOR DESIGN, HISTORY OF THE VAN BEING UNAVAILABLE, LOST VACATION AS WE WERE ACTUALLY DRIVING TO A DESTINATION ONE TIME THAT IT FAILED, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, SAFETY. WE REQUESTED THAT HONDA TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL EVEN THOUGH THE MILEAGE IS HIGHER BECAUSE OF THE OVERALL CUSTOMER DISRUPTION, POOR DESIGN, FAULTY MANUFACTURING, TIME WITHOUT USE OF THE VEHICLE (THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE AND THIS TIME AS WELL), EXPENSE OVER TIME, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SAFETY... THE AGENT HUNG UP ON ME EVEN THOUGH I WAS STATING MY CASE IN A RESPECTFUL MANNER. HE GOT AGITATED WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A REPRESENTATIVE WITH MORE DECISION AUTHORITY. HE INDICATED THAT IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO I TALK TO- EVEN THE PRESIDENT OF HONDA US WOULD NOT MAKE A DIFFERENT DECISION. WE ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND FACING YET ANOTHER COSTLY REPAIR AND CAR RENTAL THAT WE CANNOT REALLY AFFORD. IN THE LAST DAY, MY FAMILY HAS INCURRED EXPENSES OF (ORDER INCURRED) $99 DIAGNOSTIC FEE FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP, $70 INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC FROM A TRANSMISSION REBUILDER SHOP, $70 RENTAL CAR THROUGH THE WEEKEND, AND THE REBUILDER JUST CALLED TO HAVE ME AUTHORIZE ANY $865 TO GET INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. SO FAR THE TOTAL IS $1,104 AND THE CAR IS NOT OPERATIONAL. GIVEN THE POOR DESIGN, FAULTY MANUFACTURING, AND SAFETY OF THIS UNIT, WE RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT HONDA BE COMPELLED TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE INCURRED ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FOURTH GEAR INDICATOR FLASHED, FLOWING ENGINE. TRANSMISSION SHIFTED SLOW. DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM.*AK
THE DOOR HANDLES OF THE SLIDING DOORS OF MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN HAVE BROKEN AT LEAST ONCE, POSSIBLY TWICE, SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP FROM THE DEALER. THE DOORS HAVE A TENDENCY TO "STICK", MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN. AND OPENING EITHER OF THE SLIDING DOORS WHEN IN SUCH CONDITION MAY AND DOES CAUSE THE DOOR HANDLE TO BREAK AND BECOME USELESS. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I DO SEND MY VEHICLE TO FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HAS THE RECORDS OF FILE OF THESE INCIDENTS WITH THE BROKEN DOOR HANDLES. I ALSO HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE, AND THEY TOO HAVE HAD SIMILAR INCIDENTS WITH THE DOOR HANDLES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AS IF IT WAS SEARCHING FOR THE PROPER GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AGAIN. *JB
THE TRANSMISSIONIS FAILING ON MY 3-YEAR-OLD HONDA ODYSSEY AT 65,500 MILES. HONDA ADMITS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WILL NOT DO IT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY SAY THE VEHICLE IS A "GRAY MARKET" CAR. IT WAS PRODUCED IN CANADA LIKE ALL OTHER 2001 ODYSSEY'S AND "IMPORTED" TO THE USA ONE-YEAR-OLD WITH 18,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT USED. HONDA SAYS THEY WON'T COVER IT UNDER THEIR NEWLY ANNOUNCED EXTENDED WARRANTY ON DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS BECAUSE IT WAS INTENDED TO BE DRIVEN IN CANADA. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT CANADIAN ROADS WERE SO DIFFERENT FROM THOSE IN MINNESOTA. I ASKED IF THAT MEANT THAT THEY WERE IMPLYING THAT I DID SOMETHING ILLEGAL. THEY SAID "OH NO, BUT "BROKERS" BRING THESE CARS IN FROM CANADA BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORTAGE IN THE USA AND THE PRICES ARE LESS IN CANADA." SOMEHOW IT IS MY FAULT THAT HONDA USA PRICE FIXING CREATES A GRAY MARKET? DOES THE VEHICLE NOT SAY HONDA ALL OVER IT? WAS IT NOT MADE ON THE SAME LINE IN THE SAME PLANT WITH THE SAME PARTS AS ALL OF THE OTHER 2001 ODYSSEY'S? IS CORPORATE DIVISIONAL INFIGHTING PUTTING ME THE CONSUMER IN THE MIDDLE? THEY MAKE A DEFECTIVE TRANNY AND NOW THEY WON'T STAND BEHIND IT. HONDA HAD A STERLING REPUTATION UNTIL THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE STARTED TO SURFACE. A QUALIFIED TRANSMISSION SHOP RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME IT IS A SAFTEY HAZZARD AND COULD LOCK-UP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. DO THEY REALLY THINK IF SOMEONE IS KILLED BY THIS THEY WON'T BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN COURT? THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR POOR PRODUCT QUALITY. THEY ARE TRYING TO GET ME TO GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME HIGH AND DRY WITH A $5,000 FIX-IT BILL (DEALER QUOTE) ON A 3-YEAR-OLD VEHICLE I PAID BIG BUCKS FOR. SEEMS FRAUDULENT TO ME! THIS IS A DISASTER IN THE MAKING AND MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE AN INNOCENT LIFE IS LOST.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER SMELLED GAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED GAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS BOTH STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I LEARNED THAT THEY COULD BE RESET BY REMOVING FUSE #13 FOR A FEW SECONDS AND REPLACING IT. THIS WORKED UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. THIS TIME IT DIDN'T HELP. NOW ONE DOOR WORKS BUT BECAUSE THE OTHER DOESN'T I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE AUTO-DOOR SWITCH BECAUSE IT BUZZES CONSTANTLY. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE CLOCK LIGHT BURN OUT AND MY HONDA MECHANIC (WHO SPECIALIZES IN HONDAS) CANNOT REMOVE THE COVER TO REPLACE IT. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER WARNING LIGHT INCIDENTS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH SLIDING DOOR FLEW OPEN AND CAME OFF THE DOOR TRACK. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ON MY 2001HONDA ODYSSEY STOPPED WORKING ON 3/12/2004. I CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME ,AND WAS TOLD THAT THE "DOOR CONTACTS WERE TOO SMALL, AND IT WAS FIXED ON THE NEW MODELS. THEY CHARGED ME $250 TO GET THE DOOR OPEN AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST APROXIMATELY $800 TO FIX IT PROPERLY. THE DOOR STOPPED WORKING WITHIN 2 MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A RECALL, BUT NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THAT DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND IF I HAD A COLLISION OR AN EMERGENCY THE PASSENGER ON THE DRIVER SIDE COULD NOT EXIT THE VAN QUICKLY. I HAVE OWNED MANY, MANY HONDAS AND CONSIDER MYSELF A HONDA PERSON BUT THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSING ME TO RETHINK MY LOYALTY. I WANT SOMEONE TO TAKE HONDA TO TASK FOR THIS PROBLEM!!!!!*AK
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR A ROUTINE GENERAL MAINTENANCE, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ENGINE MOUNTS WORE OUT PREMATURELY.*AK
CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER FINGER BECAME WEDGED IN THE HOLE IN THE MALE SECTION OF THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE BUCKLE WAS CUT FROM THE VEHICLE AND CARRIED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR REMOVAL. THE CHILD SUFFERED TISSUE DAMAGE AND MUSCLES BRUISING.*AK
AFTER GETTING OUR 30000 MILES MAINTENANCE COMPLETED WHICH INCLUDED (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) AN OIL CHANGE AND REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, WE STARTED NOTICING A HESITATION IN THE CAR WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED, IT TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED THUS I ASSUMED THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THEM ASSESS THE SITUATION AND THEY FOUND THAT TWO OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. THE CAR ONLY HAS 34K MILES ON IT. IT SEEMS PREMATURE THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN, THEREFORE, I FEEL IT NECESSARY TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY OF THIS PART (THE ENGINE MOUNTS).*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WHILE EXITING OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN, MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER GOT HER FOOT CAUGHT IN THE MOTORIZED DOOR MECHANISM AS THE DOOR WAS OPENING. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS SOME TYPE OF SENSOR TO DETECT AN OBSTRUCTION WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSING BUT THERE IS NO SENSOR TO DETECT AN OBSTRUCTION WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENING. SHE HAD HER FOOT PINCHED IN THE MECHANISM ALONG THE DOOR SILL. HER FOOT WAS "SQUASHED". WE TOOK HER TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE XRAYS DID NOT REVEAL ANY DAMAGE; HOWEVER, THE DOCTOR WHO EXAMINED HER SAID THAT PERMANENT DAMAGE MAY NOT BE DETECTED OR NOTICEABLE UNTIL SHE IS FULLY GROWN. WE CONTACTED HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THE EVENT. WE ASKED THAT SOME SORT OF SENSOR BE INSTALLED IN FUTURE MODELS OR AT THE VERY LEAST A WARNING APPEAR SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR. WE ALSO ASKED THAT SOME SORT OF NOTIFICATION BE SENT TO ALL OWNERS OF THEIR VANS WITH MOTORIZED DOORS. THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM HONDA SAID THAT HONDA WOULD NOT DO THAT. *NM

THE 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILS TO RESTART FROM TIME TO TIME REQUIRING JUMPSTART. BATTERY WAS CHANGED EARLY LAST YEAR WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENS. THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM SO FAR. THE LATEST ONE OCCURRED YESTERDAY WITHIN ABOUT THREE WEEKS OF THE PREVIOUS SUCH INCIDENT. THE VAN HAS BECOME VERY UNRELIABLE NOW. *LA
TRANSMISSION FAILED 3 TIMES. TRANSMISSION OBVIOUSLY HAS DESIGN FLAWS. WAS REPAIRED BUT THE BASIC DESIGN FLAWS WERE NOT CORRECTED. BEARING FAILURE COULD HAVE LEAD TO WHEEL LOCK UP AND LOSS OF CONTROL. *JB
AT 49,000 MILES THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A ROARING NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHICH BECAME LOUDER AND LOUDER DAILY. THESE BEARINGS ARE SEALED AND SHOULD AT LEAST LAST FOR 100,000 MILES. THEY WERE REPLACED AND THE NOISE STOPPED.*AK
ODYSSEY SURGES AT SPEEDS OF 40-45 MPH. DURING THIS TIME THE RPM SURGES TO 4000 AND THEN BACK DOWN TO 1.5-2000. DEALER HAD ATTEMPTED TO FIX PROBLEM 5 TIMES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM IS SO INTERMITTENT THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN OR DUPLICATED THE ISSUE. THEY EVEN KEPT THE VAN FOR A FULL WEEK AND DROVE IT. AMERICA HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY UNRESPONSIVE AS I HAVE FILED ISSUE WITH THEM AS WELL. THEY JUST SEEM THAT THEY WOULD RATHER HIDE THE PROBLEM THAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND HOPE THAT THE ISSUE BECOMES LARGE AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THIS HONDA PRODUCT.*AK
HONDA IS NOT HONORING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY HAVE ON THE TRANSMISSIONS OF THE 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. I PURCHASED A HONDA RECENTLY AND IT TURNS OUT THE SELLER DID NOT DISCLOSE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. I FOUND OUT 5 DAYS AFTER BRINGING IT HOME FROM A HONDA DEALER. I ALSO FOUND OUT HONDA HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS BUT WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THE CAR CAME FROM CANADA WHICH WAS ALSO NOT DISCLOSED. BOTH HONDA US AND HONDA CANADA HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON THIS BUT WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE IT IS A CANADIAN HONDA (ALTHOUGH IT WAS SOLD BY A US DEALER IN THE US TO THE PARTY I BOUGHT IT FROM) AND BECAUSE I AM A US CITIZEN. I READ AN ARTICLE IN USA TODAY THAT SAID HONDA HAD SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THEIR TRANSMISSIONS THAT WERE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THIS YEAR OF HONDA ODYSSEY AND OTHER VEHICLES THEY MAKE TO 100,00 MILES OR 7 YEARS DUE TO CONSUMER COMPLAINTS MADE TO THE NHTSA BECAUSE NHTSA WAS GETTING READY TO ISSUE A RECALL. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THE HONDA I PURCHASED AND IT ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT AND IS A 2001. I DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AS HONDA TERMS GRAY MARKET CARS. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED MOST OF THE HONDA'S ARE MADE IN CANADA THAT COME INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST , SOME ARE ALLOTED FOR CANADA AND SOME FOR THE US AS I HAVE FOUND OUT. BUT ME AS THE AVERAGE CONSUMER KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS AND HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO HONOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THAT. HONDA MADE THIS AUTOMOBILE, THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS. THEY HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON IT IN BOTH COUNTRIES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE NOW AS I DO NOT WANT TO RISK MY CHILDRENS SAFETY OR MINE IF THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD FAIL COMPLETELY, SAY ON THE FREEWAY. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY HONDA 2001 ODYSSEY SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED WHILE DOING ABOUT 50 MPH. THE SHIFTING WAS CRAZY AND HIGHLY ERRATIC. IT HAS BEEN FIXED BY THE DEALER BUT HAS TO BEGGED FOR A LOANER CAR FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *LA
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO ACCELERATE WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AS IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE MECHANIC, BUT HONDA MOTOR CO HAD THE FINAL WORD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ONCE INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V260000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE INFLATOR MODULE). THE SLIDING DOORS DO NOT STOP WHEN SOMETHING, ACTUALLY WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THE WAY. ISN'T THERE A SENSOR OR SOMETHING WHICH SHOULD STOP THE DOORS FROM CLOSING ON SOMEONE?
WHILE THE VAN WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VAN LIKE METAL HITTING METAL. THE NOISE WAS DUE TO THE COIL SPRING BREAKING. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED, "WE'VE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM". THE SLIDING DOOR CAN'T BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM
CONSUMER STATED ON 11/25/03 HE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT, WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THAT HIS SEAT, WHICH WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION, COLLAPSED. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLEW OUT. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. HAD MANAGED TO PULL TO SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CHANGE TIRE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. *AK
THE POWER SLIDING DOOR FAILS TO OPEN ELECTRONICALLY, EITHER THROUGH THE REMOTE, THE DRIVER'S CONTROLS ON THE DASH, OR THE HANDLES (BOTH INTERIOR & EXTERIOR) ON THE DOOR. THIS ONLY AFFECTS ONE DOOR (SO FAR). THE DEALER SAYS THAT WASHERS HAVE TO BE ATTACHED TO FOUR GROUNDING WIRES INSIDE THE DOOR IN ORDER FOR THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITRY TO WORK CORRECTLY, AT A COST OF $240. IT IS ALREADY OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT IT SEEMS THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR WHAT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN EITHER THE DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING OF THE VEHICLE.
A FEW DAYS AGO WE HAD TO TAKE OUR 01 ODYSSEY TO THE HONDA DEALER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR THE THIRD TIME. LIKE CLOCKWORK EVERY 15000 TO 20000 MILES THIS CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. IS THERE ANYTHING WE ALL CAN DO TO ELIMINATE THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM FOREVER. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON 2001 ODYSSEY'S AREN'T LIMITED TO US MODELS. WE PURCHASED A CANADIAN MODEL, AND ARE ON THE 3RD TRANSMISSION, AND NONE OF OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIPS WILL ASSIST US BECAUSE IT'S A CANADIAN MODEL. DEALER WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CANADIAN MODEL, AND THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE WARRANTY COVERAGE WAS. DEALER INFORMED US THAT 2ND TRANSMISSION WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEN SUED US BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T COLLECT FROM AMERICAN OR CANADIAN HONDA. WE HAVE BEEN A LOYAL HONDA PRODUCT CONSUMER, BUT THE TREATMENT WE'VE RECEIVED FOR SUCH HAS BEEN A SEVERE DISAPPOINTMENT. WE WON'T BE PURCHASING HONDA IN THE FUTURE. *AK

VEHICLE FIRE WHILE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED.*MR THE CONSUMER HAD BACKED HIS CAR INTO THE PARKING SPOT, AND THE TAIL PIPE WAS JAMMED INTO THE MULCH. THE BLOCKING OF THE TAILPIPE CAUSED THE HEAT OF THE EXHAUST TO START THE MULCH ON FIRE SPREADING TO THE PLASTIC BUMPER OF THE CAR AND INTO THE CAR. AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED IT CAME TO THE CONSUMER ATTENTION THAT THE TAIL PIPE WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD PAY FOR ALL EXPENSES AND REPAIRS MADE AS A RESULT. *CB
