THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LYNNWOOD HONDA (22020 HWY 99, EDMONDS, WA 98026) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 132,000.

THE ABS BRAKES PERFORM NORMALLY 90% OF THE TIME . HOWEVER AT LEAST ONCE DURING A TRIP USUALLY AT 5 OR 10 MPH SPEED I STEP ON THE BRAKES AND MUST FLOOR THEM WITH EXTREME PRESSURE TO GET THEM TO WORK .I END UP STOPPING 5 TO 10 FEET PAST WHERE I SHOULD . THE REMAINDER OF A TRIP THE BRAKES SEEM TO BEHAVE NORMALLY . NO BRAKE WARNINGS APPEAR ON THE DASH AND MY FLUID LEVEL IS NORMAL WITH NO VISIBLE LEAKS .
WHILE DRIVING ON !-25 SOUTH, THE CAR STARTED TO CHOKE AND ALMOST COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE ON THE LEFT LANE. TRIED TO MERGE RIGHT AND SLOW DOWN THE CAR. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CAR WAS STILL CHOKED AND THEN GIVES IN AND GOES AGAIN. TOOK THE FIRST EXIT AND CONTINUES TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR. IT CONTINUED ON FOR A WHILE BEFORE REACHING A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER STOPPING, CHECKED THE ENGINE FOR LEAKS OR SMOKE AND THERE WAS NOTHING. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT SEEM TO START FINE. THEN THERE WAS SOME KIND OF LIGHT NOISE. I DROVE IT TO JUST THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHERE THERE WERE SOME STORES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT JUST PERFORMED PREVENTIVE TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT. SAID THAT THEY FOUND BROKEN/SEIZED SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER 2. THE WORK WAS DONE AT 76000. CURRENT MILES IS 77990. THE ISSUE SEEM TO BE HAPPENING TO 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIX FOR THE BRAKE GRINDING COMPLAINTS IN SUMMER WHILE BRAKING ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE. IT HAPPENS TO MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING FREQUENTLY TOO. IT HAPPENED IN THE MORNING OF JUNE 1 2012 AND WHEN I GOT HOME, I POWER WASHED MY VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE WHEELS WHICH WERE DIRTY WITH BRAKE DUST. WHEN I BRAKED ON THE SAME HILL TWO HOURS LATER, NO GRINDING AND NO FADING OF BRAKES. HOPE THIS CONTINUES TO WORK AND HELPS OTHERS. *TT
FAULTY VSA MODULATOR / ABS PUMP. THE VSA INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON AND DIAG CHECK BY DEALER SHOWS ERROR CODES 76-1 AND 66-1. THE ADVISE IS TO REPLACE THE MODULATOR. THIS EQUIPMENT IS ALREADY PROVEN FAULTY IN SIMILAR HONDA MODELS (ODYSSEY 2007-2008) AND RECALLED. HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 ALSO NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO SPEND A COUPLE OF THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THIS. *JS
COME ON HONDA .... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I LIVE IN A HILLY TOWN. ALL WINTER LONG, NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. AS SOON AS IT GETS WARM AND I BRAKING WHEN COMING DOWN A HILL (EVEN A VERY GENTLE SLOPE), THE FRONT BRAKES MAKE THE MOST HORRIFIC GRINDING NOISE. THE ODYSSEY VSA LIGHT WENT ON IN AUGUST 2010. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE BRIGHTON HONDA DEALERSHIP IN MI, THEY SAID I NEEDED TO HAVE MY VSA MODULATOR ASSEMBLY REPLACED FOR THE PRICE OF $1257.44. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANICAL ENGINEER THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AT THIS LOW MILEAGE. I CONTACTED HONDA AUTOMOBILE DIVISION IN TORRANCE, CA LAST MONTH. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT, HOWEVER, THEY WOULD GO 50/50.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE NOISE WAS INTERMITTENT AND WAS HEARD DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD THE CONTACT WOULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

SINCE I HAD BEEN HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM FOR A WHILE, WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I HAD THEM CHECK THE BRAKES WHILE IT WAS IN FOR OTHER THINGS. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE AND THAT THEY BARELY HAD ANY WEAR ON THEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT'S JUST THE WAY HONDAS ARE. BUT WHEN I FIRST GOT IT BRAND NEW, I DIDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I FOUND AN ARTICLE TODAY ABOUT THE PENDING RECALL FOR 2007-2008 HONDA ODYSSEYS, AND IT DESCRIBED THE EXACT PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH MY ODYSSEY. I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO STOP, OR EVEN TO GET IT TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO TURN. I CALLED HONDA THIS MORNING AND REPORTED IT, AND I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE MY ODYSSEY IS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, HAVE THEM INSPECT IT, AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN DID NOT STOP WHILE I WAS BRAKING DURING A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BRAKES GOT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING A MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE PENDING RECALL FOR 2007-2008 HONDA ODYSSEYS, AND IT DESCRIBED THE EXACT PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH MY 2005 ODYSSEY WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES. WHEN THE BREAKS ARE HEATED FROM FULL LOAD OR MULTIPLE STOPS WE HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO STOP. ONCE THE PEDAL HITS THE FLOOR THEN THERE IS A METAL ON METAL GRINDING SOUND. 1. DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE ON 12/22/2009 THE DEALER TECH / MECHANIC ADVISED THAT BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS ON MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY WERE RUST PITTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT ON A RELATIVELY NEW CAR SINCE I OWN A 10 YEAR OLD 2001 HONDA ACCORD WHICH HAS NOT HAD ANY SUCH PROBLEM SO FAR - UNDER SAME DRIVING CONDITIONS. 2. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND WILL REQUIRE A EXPENSIVE FIX (APPROX. $1500 QUOTED BY THE DEALER) FOR A CAR UNDER WARRANTY. CANNOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH RUSTED ROTORS AND 2MM PADS. 3. THE DEALER HAS QUOTED $1500 TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT / REAR ROTORS AND PADS. *TR

2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING HAS SOFT BRAKES AT LOW MILEAGE AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 25,000 MILES SINCE THEY WERE RUSTED OUT, EVEN THOUGH BRAKES HAD BEEN SERVICED BY HONDA AT ALL PRESCRIBED SERVICE INTERVALS. HONDA REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS AND PADS AT MY COST, CLAIMING THAT THIS WEAR WAS NOT ABNORMAL AND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN COVERED EVEN IF THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER ORIGINAL 3-YEAR WARRANTY. MY CONCERN (WHICH I SHARED WITH THEM) IS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE PARTS FAILED AFTER A VERY SHORT INTERVAL EVEN THOUGH THE VAN WAS SERVICED AT THE INTERVALS PRESCRIBED BY HONDA AT A HONDA DEALER. THE SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKING DISTANCE WITH THE RUSTED-OUT ROTORS INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE DRAMATICALLY, EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR
