I bought the 2005 Odyssey van in 12/2015. It now has 192,426 miles on it. Three or four times every year since I bought it, the engine will suddenly surge when coming to a stop sign or light, with my right foot on the brake pedal, braking and slowing the van for the stop sign or light. The engine revs to about 5000 or 6000 RPMs. It is as if the engine is flooring the gas pedal. Every time, I have been able to push the brake pedal down hard, even though the car continues to slowly roll forward, and shove it into neutral. I have to then tap the gas pedal to stop the engine accelerating. It then goes back to idling normally. Note, it even happened to me one time when I put it into reverse while parking! So very scary each and every time it happens. On [XXX], I took the van to Don Jacobs Honda Dealership, Lexington, KY. They said there were no reports of this ever happening to anyone else. They charged me $3216.06, with most of the cost for a new timing belt/water pump and a valve adjustment. When their repairs did not solve the problem, I called them. They said they would like to put a monitor on the van and drive it until the surge happened again. I told them to let me drive the van with the monitor, as the next surge might not happen for several months, and I needed to drive the van on a daily basis for work. They said they weren't allowed to let customers use the monitor! I finally had time today to research the surging problem. I noticed on [XXX] that this problem with Honda has never been figured out or fixed! And it keeps happening on even newer Honda Odysseys! I now have the resources to quit driving this van. I would be willing to donate the van to the NHTSA so that they may research and try to figure out how to stop this defect! No telling how many people have been injured or killed due to this defect. While servicing the timing components I notice the timing belt not damage. But the tensioner was out of place with a bolt broken and the other was missing like it was never bolted
ENGINE MOUNT FAILURE, LOOKING AT A 2000 DOLLAR REPAIR TO REPLACE, SEEMS IS A COMMON PROBLEM NEEDS ATTENTION. HAS CAUSED AN ADDITIONAL MOUNT TO FAIL , AND IS AFFECTING THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AS WELL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED A GAPING HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK FROM WHERE THE IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
FRONT & REAR ENGINE MOUNTS BOTH WENT BAD AND THE ENGINE SHAKES AT THE SAME TIME IS THEIR ANY RECALL ABOUT THIS ISSURE

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION WITH 3.5L VTEC ENGINE FOR WHICH HONDA WAS FOUND LIABLE ON 2008-2013 ODYSSEY AND A SLEW OF OTHER MODELS. MY 2005 IS DOING THE SAME THING YET 2005-2007 CARS ARE NOT INCLUDED. SAFETY WISE - WHEN THE OIL PRESSURE IS LOW ENOUGH, THE ENGINE WILL LOSE NEARLY ALL POWER AND CANNOT SAFELY ACCELERATE (BARELY MAINTAIN SPEED) YET, THE ENGINE OIL WARNING LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON IN THE VEHICLE...
MY HONDA ODYSSEY IS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL THAN IT SHOULD. I AM NEEDING TO ADD 1 QUART EVERY 2 WEEKS IF THAT AS IT IS ALREADY DOWN 1 QUART. IT IS REGULARLY ON TIME GOING IN FOR OIL CHANGES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED SINCE I'VE BOUGHT IT IN 2015. IT HAS HAD MANY OTHER ISSUES AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED. NOW THIS IS SEEMINGLY A PROBLEM. THE OIL PERCENTAGE IS NOT TELLING ME THAT IT IS LOW OR NONE AT ALL. NO OIL DUMMY LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WHEN I HAVE NOT A DROP OF OIL. I HAVE SWITCHED AND USED HIGH MILEAGE OIL RATHER THAN CONVENTIONAL AND GO EVERY 3,000 MILES & EVEN DID A TREATMENT RECENTLY. NOTHING IS DOING THE JOB.
DEALER SAID 2 ENGINE MOUNTS BAD. THE FRONT ONE, IS OVER $500 JUST FOR THE PART. TWO ISSUES: HOW WAS IT DETERMINED THIS PART WAS BAD AND WITH SUCH A SIGNIFICANT PRICE FOR ONE OF THEM (THERE ARE TWO ON THIS MODEL), I TAKE ISSUE WITH THE OBVIOUSLY FLAWED DESIGN. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTION REFERENCING BOTH THE ABOVE ISSUES. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS A FAULT DESIGN TO DRIVE SERVICE SALES LATER IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
THE BACK MOTOR MOUNT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE LOW MILEAGE IN THIS VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE SHUDDERS WHEN IT IS IN THE ECO SETTING.
DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 THEN ACCELERATION, THE CAN STARTS TO SHACK BAD, TO THE POINT DANGER TO DRIVE, I WAS ABLE TO ADVOIDE A CRASH, DON'T KNOW ABOUT NEXT TIME. LOOKED ONLINE THIS HAPPENED TO ALLOT OF PEOPLE AT DIFFERENT NUMBER OF MILES, AS LITTLE AS 50K AND DIFFERENT SPEEDS (40-65)ODYSSEY'S 2005-2010. DESIGN PROBLEM. MAY HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN LIFE OF VAN, CAR BE EXPENSIVE TO FIX EACH TIME. I BOUGHT THIS VAN USED WITH 145K EXPECTED SOME PROBLEM. BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM TO ALLOT OF DRIVES. DANGER, DANGER, DANGER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE SERVICE CENTER FOR MAINTENANCE, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

CAR JIGGERS AND VIBRATES WHEN ECO MODE KICKS IN. CAR ALSO VIBRATES CONSTANTLY. MULTIPLE MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BEEN DEEMED BAD AND NEEDING REPLACEMENT. MOTOR MOUNTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE ECO SHIFT AND LAST LONGER THAN THIS. *TR
MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L HAS ONLY ABOUT 66,000 MILES ON IT AND A HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT ONE OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS HAS BROKEN WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR A HONDA'S FUEL PUMP SAFETY RECALL SERVICE. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF HONDA'S OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH HONDA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2000 - 2012. THE ENGINE MOUNTS ON HONDA VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY THE ODYSSEY, BREAK EASILY AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW THAT HONDA HAS NEGLECTED TO CORRECT. ENGINE MOUNTS SHOULD NOT BREAK AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES. THEY SHOULD LAST EVEN MUCH LONGER THAN 100,000 MILES. THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENGINE MOUNT RUNS AT APPROXIMATELY $1000/MOUNT, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. PLEASE HELP LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. TORQUE CONVERTER GOING IN THE TRANSMISSION. I SEE THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THAT HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS AND HAS DONE A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR.
ONE MORNING AS WE WERE STARTED UP THE ENGINE I NOTICED A SOMEWHAT LOUD NOISE AS IS THE MUFFLER HAD A HOLE IN IT. I DROVE IT FOR AWHILE AND NOTICED AT THIS POINT THAT THE NOISE WAS HEARD AS WE ACCELERATED AND WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO ECO MODE. I HAD STOOD OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE MY WIFE DROVE AWAY BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY NOISE. THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER ON A RECALL, FUEL PUMP, AND ASKED FOR THEM TO LOOK UNDER IT. THEY REPORTED THAT IT WAS THE MOTOR MOUNT THAT WAS WORN DOWN. I SEE THAT HONDA ODYSSEY, 2005 (OUR YEAR MODEL) THROUGH 2007 HAS THIS PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY TYPE OF ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO HAVE HONDA REPAIR THIS INCIDENT WITHOUT THE COST COMING FROM ME. *TR

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
