THIS VEHICLE SPEED FROM 50 TO 70 MILES IF TAKE BRAKE THE CAR VIBRATE, THAT START FROM AROUND 30,000 MILES. AFTER FIXED IT, ABOUT 5,000 MILES, VIBRATE AGAIN. NOW THE TOTAL MILEAGE IS 79,300, ALREADY FIXED 3 TIMES. I FOUND HONDA ALL CAR MODEL HAS THE SAME ISSUE (ALL MY FRIENDS' DIFFERENT HONDA CAR MODELS) . ANOTHER PROBLEM IS WHEN DRIVE FEELING A STRONG VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL WHEN ACCELERATION FEELING FROM THIS APRIL 2017. LAST WEEK JUST FIXED IT, DEALER CHANGED BOTH SIDE OF DRIVESHAFT ASSY-. CAR DEALER TALKED TO ME MANUFACTURE USED THE BAD PARTS MAY FROM 2008 TO 2012.
WHILE DRIVING TO TEXAS FROM ST. LOUIS OUR VAN SUDDENLY DIED ON INTERSTATE 44. IT HAPPENED AT 1AM. WE CALLED USAA FOR HELP. THEY GOT US TO A REPAIR SHOP. WE LEARNED THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED CAUSING THE ALTERNATOR TO DIE. WE HAD ZERO POWER ON THE INTERSTATE AND MY FAMILY OF 5 WAS IN DANGER. WE LEARNED AT THE SHOP THE POWER STEERING WAS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY INSTEAD OF RECALL. THIS CAUSED OUR VAN TO DIE ON THE INTERSTATE AND PUT MY FAMILY IN IMMEDIATE RISK OF DEATH. WE WERE NOT TOLD OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE HONDA INFORMED US THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO. THE REPAIR SHOP IN OKLAHOMA CITY THAT FIXED OUR ALTERNATOR TOLD US THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL AND WE WERE PUT AT RISK. PLEASE REVIEW AND MAKE THE CALL FOR A RECALL INSTEAD OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY CHILDREN WERE CRYING AND CLEARLY SHAKEN BY THE ENTIRE EVENT. HAD AN 18 WHEELER PASSED US AT THE TIME, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE SEEN US AND SURELY WOULD HAVE KILLED US ALL.
PAINT/CLEAR-COAT ON THE ROOF PREMATURELY DETERIORATED CAUSING SIGNIFICANT BLEMISHES ABOVE FRONT WINDSHIELD, SIDE, AND REAR WINDOWS.
HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY 1000 MILES.
OUR ENGINE IS ALWAYS SO LOW ON OIL IT DOES NOT REGISTER ON THE DIP STICK. IN THIS STATE I ADD 1.5 QUARTS OF OIL. I READ ONLINE THAT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF HONDA VEHICLES HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN OUR VEHICLE TRIGGERED A CHECK ENGINE CODE AND LOOKED UP THE CODE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN WESTMINSTER CA AND THEY DID A CHECK FOR OIL CONSUMPTION AND HAD US RETURN IN 1000 MILES. WHEN WE HIT THAT MILEAGE 3 WEEKS LATER I CHECKED THE OIL IN THE MORNING BEFORE RETURNING TO THE DEALER AND AGAIN THE OIL DID NOT REGISTER ON THE DIP STICK. THE DEALER HAD THE VAN FOR 4 HOURS AND THEN TOLD US IT WAS CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE 0.60 QUARTS LOW AND THAT THEY CONSIDERED IT WITH NORMAL RANGE OF OIL CONSUMPTION. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THEY LIED AND THAT THE VAN WAS AT LEAST 1.25 QUARTS LOW. HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OUR OPTIONS ARE NOW SINCE I FEEL THE DEALER WAS DISHONEST, JUST KEEP ADDING 1-2 QUARTS EVERY FEW WEEKS AND HOPE THE ENGINE DOES NOT FAIL I GUESS.
MY ODYSSEY WAS PARKED AND OFF I PUT MY PACKAGES AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE SLIDING DOOR. IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. AFTER I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL FOR HELP I FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS AND THE DOOR CAME OFF THE TRACK AND HUNG BY JUST A VERY THIN CABLE I COULD NOT DRIVE IT FOR FEAR OF IT FALLING COMPLETELY OFF AND DAMAGING SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR OR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT ALSO DID A LOT OF BODY DAMAGE. HONDA DEALER IN KENOSHA DID THE REPAIRS. THEY ONLY PAID FOR HALF AND WE HAD TO COVER THE OTHER $1500
THE FRONT DOOR DETENTS ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH, AND THEY WILL ALLOW THE DOOR TO CLOSE BY ITSELF. IF YOU ARE ON AN INCLINE, OR IT IS A WINDY DAY, THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN, AND MYSELF, WHEN GETTING IN OR OUT OF THE VEHILCE. OF NOTE, HONDA USES THE SAME DETENT, WITH THE SAME PART NUMBER, ON A CIVIC, WHICH HAS A MUCH SMALLER AND LIGHTER DOOR, AS IT DOES ON THE ODYSSEY, WHICH HAS A MUCH LARGER DOOR. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2003 CHRYSLER VAN, AND A 1998 BMW, AND NEITHER OF WHICH HAVE THIS PROBLEM. AND FOR THAT MATTER, NONE OF THE OTHER CARS I HAVE OWNED HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION IS A SIMPLE REDESIGN OF THE DOOR DETENT TO ACCOUNT FOR THE HEAVIER ODYSSEY DOOR. ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL. ALSO OF NOTE, I DID REPLACE THE DOOR DETENT, AND THE NEW DETENT IS AS BAD AS THE OLD DETENT. A REDESIGN IS REQUIRED.
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH IS LIT
PURCHASED THIS VAN 03/24/16.. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY,THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I PULLED OVER CHECK THE DIP STICK AND THERE WAS BUT A DROP OF OIL IN IT ...I TOOK A TAXI TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION BOUGHT 3 BOTTLES OF OIL AND I ADDED 2 QUARTS OF OIL THAT DAY, I HAD CALLED 2 DAYS PRIOR TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD WAIT TILL ITS AT 15%(IT WAS AT 30% WHEN I CALLED) THEN 2 DAYS IN THE LIGHT CAME ON... I DIDN'T DRIVE THE VAN AFTER I GOT HOME TILL THE DATE OF THE APPOINTMENT 08/18/16, THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT. TELLING ME THAT THEY ARE GOING TO PLACE THE VAN ON A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND I MUST CHECK THE OIL LEVELS EACH TIME I FILL UP AT THE GAS STATION.. AND RETURN AFTER 1000 MILES ( BASICALLY I HEAR DRIVE UNTIL THE ENGINE BRAKES AN THEN IT WILL COST YOU TO FIX OR REPLACE CAUSE YOUR AT FAULT) AN ENGINE SHOULD BE USING OIL AND THE DEALER SHOULD KNOW WHERE THE OIL IS GOING, DON'T TELL ME ITS NORMAL TO BURN AT LEAST A QUART OF OIL ITS NOT**** I KNOW ABOUT VEHICLES ... THEN TO CLEAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEY SAY I HAVE TO PAY FOR AN SOFTWARE UPDATE (4 MTHS AFTER BUYING THIS VAN) AND I HAVE A 2 YEAR WARRANTY FOR THIS VAN... TO MUCH DECEIT WITH THESE DEALERS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN SHE TRIED TO AVOID HITTING A DEER. THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD, HIT A DRAINAGE CULVERT, A TWO FOOT BOULDER, A MAILBOX, SKID ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY, HIT ANOTHER DRAINAGE CULVERT, AND CAME TO A REST IN A DITCH THAT RAN PARALLEL WITH THE ROAD. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL AND TIRE WERE INSIDE THE DOOR HINGES, THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE CORNER BUMPER, FENDER, AND DOOR WERE DESTROYED. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL, SUSPENSION, SUBFRAME, FLOOR, AND INNER STRUCTURE WERE ALSO DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,244.
2010 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR RECALL SERVICE, 14-032 FUEL PUMP MODULE LEAK, AFTER NOTIFICATION IN AUGUST 2015. UPON COMPLETION, THE SERVICE REPORT INDICATED THAT A PCM SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS ALSO APPLIED FOR LOCK-UP CLUTCH FUNCTION PER RECALL 09-053 ODYSSEY LC JUDDER. WHILE WE HAD EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION JUDDER AND VIBRATION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING BETWEEN 25 TO 35 MPH, WE WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY NOTIFICATION OR RECALL AT ALL. AROUND JULY 2016, THE TRANSMISSION JUDDER AND HESITATION, COMBINED WITH SOME SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAME BACK AND WE SCHEDULED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME DEALER FOR INSPECTION IN EARLY AUGUST 2016. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND A MINIMUM HOURLY LABOR CHARGE OF $115 WOULD APPLY FOR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. AT THE END, THE SERVICE REPORT INDICATED THAT FLUID LEVEL WAS GOOD, TRANSMISSION JUDDER WAS CONFIRMED TO OCCUR BETWEEN 20 - 40 MPH ON ROAD TEST, AND THE TORQUE CONVERTOR SHOULD BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1,900 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT IT AND RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE. THE TORQUE CONVERTOR ON THIS VEHICLE IS APPARENTLY A DEFECT AND HONDA OFFERED ONLY A TEMPORARY QUICK FIX WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. OUR ODYSSEY HAS ONLY 46,500 MILES ON IT, BUT THE WARRANTY PERIOD HAS PASSED. PLEASE HELP AND INVESTIGATE.
(1) AIR CONDITIONING FAILED,(2) EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (3) POOR MILEAGE (EXTREMELY ROUGH RUNNING. ALL OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING (IN MOTION).
WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE, MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. THE PHOTOS THAT WERE TAKEN AFTER THIS INCIDENT INDICATE THE GLASS IS BOWED OUTWARD AS THOUGH IT WERE SUCKED FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS NOT THE RESULT OF SOMETHING IMPACTING THE CAR. THERE WAS NO OBJECT FOUND IN OR AROUND THE VEHICLE ON THE SUNROOF COVER. THE COVER ITSELF WAS NOT DAMAGED, ALSO DEMONSTRATING THAT THIS WAS AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION. IF THE SHADE HAD NOT BEEN CLOSED, I COULD'VE EASILY BEEN KILLED, OR AT THE VERY LEAST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD. THIS COULD KILL SMALL CHILDREN AND CAUSE MANY OTHER ACCIDENTS.
FUEL SMELL, FUEL LEAK.
VEHICLE JERKED LIGHTLY EACH AND EVERY TIME I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE VIBRATION IS MORE OBVIOUSLY WHEN VEHICLE CHANGED FROM STOP TO MOTION. HOWEVER, THE VIBRATION CAN STILL BE PERCEIVED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE FASTER THE CAR IS IN MOTION, THE LESS VIBRATION PERCEIVED. THE CAR RUNS SMOOTHLY IF IT IS RUNNING AT THE SPEED 60MPH OR MORE. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. CAR USED LIGHTLY, PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND ONLY HAS 35K ON IT. OIL CHANGES PERFORMED REGULARLY EVERY 3K, AIR FILTER CHANGED YEARLY. *TR
STOPPED IN A SERVICE ROAD AROUND A PARKING LOT WAITING FOR CROSS TRAFFIC TO CLEAR. FOOT WAS ON BRAKE. VEHICLE ENGINE BEGAN RACING. PRESSED HARDER ON BRAKE TO HOLD VEHICLE BACK TO PREVENT HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME. PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL TO STOP FROM GOING FORWARD. TURNED OFF IGNITION SWITCH. STARTED VEHICLE AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I OPERATE THE BRAKE AND GAS ONLY WITH MY RIGHT FOOT. I CANNOT PRESS THE GAS WHILE MY RIGHT FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. THIS VAN EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. DAY WAS SUNNY AND ABOUT 65F.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE APPROACHING A COMPLETE STOP, THERE WAS A DELAYED RESPONSE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
TRAVELING IN MOTION AT 40MPH THAN A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF ENGINE AND SPEED. VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP WITH BRAKES. HONDA ODYSSEY WAS PUT ON NEUTRAL THAN BRAKES WERE APPLIED TO STOP VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE WAS ON A SECONDARY RODE AT THE TIME OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. WE CALLED AAA TO PICK UP OUR HONDA ODYSSEY AND TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.
I HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP IN MY VAN. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PREVIOUSLY ISSUED FOR THE PROBLEM IN MY 2010 YEAR VAN. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR MY PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SIDE POWER SLIDING DOORS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR OR TWO AND THEY ARE BOTH GOING TO NEED REPAIR AGAIN AS THE DOORS WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THEY CLOSE ALL THE WAY AND THEN POP BACK OPEN LEAVING THEM ON AND THE OPEN DOOR SOUND INDICATORS REMAINS ON. ALSO WHEN TURNING, THE DOOR WILL CLOSE AND THEN OPEN BACK UP CREATING AIR TO COME THROUGH THE OPENINGS. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND VERY UNSAFE FOR OUR FAMILY TO TRAVEL IN. WE CAN'T EVEN TURN THE POWER OFF AND COMPLETELY CLOSE THE DOOR WITHOUT IT POPPING BACK OPEN. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM HONDA ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM.
OCCASIONALLY AS I COME TO A STOP (APPLY THE BREAKS, THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE UP TO 5,000 RPM), THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD UNTIL THE I APPLIED ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE BREAKS. THE ENGINE WOULD SHIFT DOWN TO THE IDLE CONFIGURATION. . I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2011 FOR MAINTENANCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT WITHOUT THE REPLICATION THEY CANNOT FIX IT. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED 2 MINOR ACCIDENTS AND I AM AFRAID THAT SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS MAY OCCUR. *TR
LETTER FROM SENATOR BURR ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT [XXX] RE 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY THIRD ENGINE FAILURE PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 2017 FOR HONDA TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. *LD INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE MUST FAIL A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME DEFECT BEFORE NOVEMBER, 2017. THE ENGINE FAILED A TOTAL OF 2 TIMES. THE FIRST FAILURE DID NOT MEET THE MANUFACTURER'S GUIDELINES DUE TO THE REPAIR NOT BEING SERVICED BY A HONDA MECHANIC. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE FAILURE BE REPAIRED REGARDLESS OF THE DEADLINE AND ANOTHER ENGINE FAILURE. UPDATED 08/23/2017*JS
THE NYLON GUIDE ROLLERS ON THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR BROKE. THESE ROLLERS APPARENTLY CONTRIBUTE TO KEEPING THE DOOR UP AND INSIDE THE GUIDE RAIL. THIS CAUSED THE DOOR TO DROP AND BE SUSPENDED BY THE MOTORIZED CABLE THAT OPENS/CLOSES THE DOOR AND CANTILEVERED OFF OF THE BOTTOM GUIDE. THIS HAPPENED AFTER BEING PARKED AND ACTUATING THE DOOR. THERE WAS A SOUND OF THE NYLON GUIDES CRACKING AND THE SLIDER HITTING THE BODY PANEL. THE VEHICLE HAS 62,000 MILES ON IT. I CONSIDER IT UNSAFE THAT THE DOOR BECAME UNUSABLE AND WOULD NOT RETURN CLOSED UNLESS UNBOLTED AND PUSHED IN. IT THEN DID NOT LATCH AND HAD TO BE CHAINED/TIED DOWN. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE DOOR. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I MUST HAVE HAD A COMMUNICATION ISSUE. IT WAS CHARACTERIZED IN THE ITEMIZED STATEMENT DIFFERENTLY THAN MY VERBAL DISCUSSIONS WITH THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE. IT WAS WRITTEN UP AS A DOOR JAM. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE PERSON WAS QUITE FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE I EXPERIENCED AND SAID IT WAS NOT UNCOMMON. I WAS ADVISED IF THE DOOR BECAME COMPLETELY DETACHED TO GO TO A BODY SHOP FIRST. MY INSTANCE WAS NOT THAT SEVERE.
FRONT SEAT BREAKS WHEN VEHICLE IS HIT IN REAR 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY INJURING OR KILLING PASSENGERS BEHIND FRONT SEAT DRIVER AND PASSENGER.
VEHICLE BURNS OIL. OIL LIGHT ON DASH WILL ILLUMINATE AND DIPSTICK WILL BE DRY WHEN CHECKED. REQUIRES OPERATOR TO ADD NEW OIL BETWEEN ROUTINE OIL CHANGES. ON BOARD COMPUTER WILL INDICATE SIGNIFICANT OIL LIFE REMAINING THROUGH THE PROCESS.
SIMILAR TO CAMPAIGN ID # 12V062000 (FOR OLDER 2008-09 ODYSSEYS), THE TAILGATE ON MY 2010 ODYSSEY HAS FAILED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. OPENING IT VIA ELECTRICAL BUTTONS (IN-CAR DASHBOARD OR REMOTE BUTTONS) RESULTS IN THE TAILGATE RAISING, BOUNCING UP AND DOWN, THEN CLOSING RIGHT BACK DOWN. OPENING IT MANUALLY PRODUCES ADDITIONAL RESISTANCE TO OPENING THAT WASN'T THERE BEFORE THE FAILURE; THEN THE TAILGATE REFUSES TO STAY UP IN THE OPEN POSITION AND SLAMS DOWN WITH ADDITIONAL FORCE THAT CAN HURT AN ADULT, AND SERIOUSLY INJURE A CHILD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED AND ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE AN OBJECT FROM THE TRUNK, THE OBJECT WAS FOUND TO BE WET AND MOLDED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WHOLE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE REAR HEADLINER WERE WET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAMS THAT MEET THE ROOF RAILS WERE SEPARATING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

FINALLY (WITHIN 1-2 MILES) I CAME TO A SAFE AREA TO STOP (A SMALL REST-"TEXT" STOP) STOPPED ON BRAKE HARD AND PULLED HAND BRAKE, AND TURNED OFF ENGINE - SMOKE CAME OUT OF BRAKES . FRONT DISK BRAKES WERE GLOWING ORANGE. AFTER BRAKES COOLED DOWN RESTARTED CAR DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES AT 40MPH - ON HIGHWAY TO EXIT AND CHECKED INTO HOTEL.
RIGHT TAIL LIGHT FILLED WITH WATER, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. NOW THE LEFT ONE IS FULL OF WATER TOO. VEHICLE STATIONARY WHEN WATER OBSERVED EACH TIME, OF COURSE.
ON 8/5/15 APPROXIMATELY 7:10 PM, I WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY 37 TOWARDS VALLEJO. IT WAS ONE LANE HIGHWAY, MARSH LAND ON THE RIGHT AND CONCRETE BLOCK ON THE LEFT. A MAROON VAN LOST CONTROL, BUMPED INTO MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND HIT US FROM THE BEHIND. OUR ODYSSEY MINIVAN HAD A COSTCO SIZE IGLOO ICE CHEST, COMPUTER TOTE, AND A PLASTIC CRATE IN THE TRUNK, BUT IT WAS CRUSHED TO THE BACK ROW SEATS. ALL THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT AND PASSENGER. DUE TO THE FACT THAT FRONT AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY, I HIT MY HEAD AND NECK FROM FRONT AND BACK MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE CRUSH. I HAD PAIN IN MY NECK AND HEAD IMMEDIATELY, AND I WAS TRANSPORTED TO KAISER PARMANENTE HOSPITAL. I WAS DISCHARGED NEXT DAY, BUT DUE TO THE CONCUSSION I HAVE BEEN SUFFERED BY MASSIVE, PAINFUL HEADACHE AND NAUSEA. THE BACK OF OUR MINIVAN WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH THIS UNSPEAKABLE FORCE. IF I WERE DRIVING 6 INCHES SLOWER, TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE SITTING IN THE VERY BACK ROW WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE FRONT AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED TO SAVE ME FROM INJURY. APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE HARDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM LURCHING OUT INTO ONCOMING VEHICLE. THREW THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO NEUTRAL. ENGINE NO LONGER WENT INTO ACCELERATION AND BACK TO NORMAL. I MADE SURE THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY FLOOR MAT OR SOMETHING ON THE ACCELERATOR TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS VEHICLE. TODAY JAN 2ND 2015 AROUND 6:40AM CST, MY VAN ENGINE SUDDENLY MADE A LOUD NOISE WITH HIGH ACCELERATION. I WAS DRIVING AT THE SPEED OF 40 MILE/HOUR WHERE SUDDENLY WITH ACCELERATION IT STARTED INCREASING IT SPEED FROM 40M/H TO 45M/H, 50 M/H AND THAT MOMENT I WAS SCARED AND AFRAID AND WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS GOING ON AS I WAS NOT DRIVING MY VAN IN CRUISE CONTROL. IT WAS VERY HARD TO BREAK AND I HAVE TO USE MY BOTH THE FEET TO BREAK MY VAN TO BRING TO THE COMPLETE STOP. AFTER STOPPING AND PUTTING MY VAN IN PARK, I TURN OFF THE ENGINE WAIT FOR A MINUTE AND START THE ENGINE. VAN STARTED BUT AS IT WAS PARKED AND IT STARTED ACCELERATING AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO PUT IN DRIVE GEAR. TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY LOCK. I CALLED MY INSURANCE ALL STATE TO ARRANGE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW MY VAN TO NEAREST HONDA DEALER. CURRENTLY IT MY VAN IS AT FRANK KENT HONDA DEALER (34000 WEST LOOP 820 SOUTH, FORT WORTH, TX 76116). THIS IS VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE AND I WAS DRIVING ALONE AT THAT TIME. I HAVE FAMILY WITH 2 KIDS 9 & 6 YEAR OLD AND I AM WORRIED WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING WITH MY KIDS IN FREEWAY AT THE SPEED LIMIT OR IN THE BUSY STREET WITH HEAVY OR FREEZING ICY ROAD. FOR A VEHICLE LIKE THIS WITH 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES IT SHOULD STOP ON A DIME LIKE IT USED TO. HAD THE BRAKE FLUID CHANGED AT THE DEALER. NO DIFFERENCE. THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A SPEC FOR THE PEDAL HEIGHT. INTERESTING. I GUESS THE PEDAL CAN NEVER BE TOO LOW IF THERE'S NO SPEC, ONLY SUBJECTIVE TO WHAT HONDA WANTS TO ADMIT IS BAD OR NOT. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH I HAVE A 1989 LINCOLN MARK VII WITH THE ORGINAL FORD SERVICE MANUAL. THERE IS A SPECIFIC RANGE FOR THE PEDAL HEIGHT WHEN MEASURED FROM THE FLOOR BOARD. SURPRISING HOW FORD HAS HAD IT SINCE 1989 AND HONDA IS NOT REQUIRED. AGAIN - WE CAN ALL THINK THE PEDAL IS TOO LOW BUT IT'S ULTIMATELY HONDA'S OPINION SINCE THERE'S NOTHING TO MEASURE IT AGAINST. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW SO I KNOW HOW THE BRAKES USED TO, AND SHOULD FEEL. GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB WITH SIMILAR STORIES FROM THE DEALERS AND HONDA I HOPE NHTSA WILL FINALLY FORCE THIS ISSUE INTO A RECALL BY REASSESSING THE VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE AGAINST WHAT WAS ADVERTISED. A PRIOR INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 01/15/2014 WHERE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE DTC CODE P3400.
