WAS TRAVELING ROUGHLY 70 MPH ON HWY 45 JUST OUTSIDE OF BUCKATUNNA, MS WHEN 2 DEER WERE SEEN ON THE MEDIAN OF THE HWY A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY. AS SOON AS THEY WERE SEEN, THE DEER SAW OUR HEADLIGHTS AND JUMPED INTO OUR LANE OF TRAVEL HITTING THE DRIVERS FRONT CORNER DAMAGING THE BUMPER, GRILL, HEADLIGHT, AND LEFT FRONT PANEL. WHAT'S CONCERNING IS EVEN THOUGH THE IMPACT WAS ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND 99% OF DAMAGE TO DRIVERS SIDE, ONLY THE FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG DEPLOYED, NOT THE DRIVER SIDE.

THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 215,000.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2018, WE WERE OUR GRANDCHILDREN TO THE ZOO TRAVELING FROM THEIR HOME . WE WERE USING THEIR FAMILY'S 2012 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE SIX YEAR OLD WAS ON A BOOSTER SEAT IN THE THIRD ROW OF SEATS. I HAD HELPED THE THREE YOUNGEST OUT OF THEIR SEATS AND GOTTEN THEM OUT OF THE CAR WHEN THE 6 YEAR OLD CALLED OUT THAT HE WAS STUCK IN HIS SEATBELT. IT WAS TWISTED AROUND HIM AND I COULDN'T SEEM TO FIND THE RELEASE BUTTON. WHEN I ASKED HIM HOW IT HAD GOTTEN THAT WAY, HE SAID HE LAID DOWN WHILE WEARING IT. HE SAID IT HURT AND SEEMED VERY TIGHT. MY HUSBAND LIFTED THE BACK DOOR THINKING HE COULD GET SOME SLACK FROM ABOVE. INSTEAD, THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENED AND IT BECAME TIGHTER THAN EVER. WE HAD NO TIME TO ANALYZE THE BELT ANY LONGER; THAT WAS CLEAR. IF HE STAYED THAT WAY FOR LONGER THAN A FEW MINUTES, HE WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY HAD ORGAN DAMAGE DUE TO LACK OF BLOOD SUPPLY. I PUT THE FINGERS OF MY HAND BETWEEN THE METAL PART OF THE BELT AND HIS BODY WHILE MY HUSBAND SPRINTED TO THE ZOO OFFICE. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THE TRAPPED GRANDSON REMAINED CALM AND DIDN'T THRASH AROUND OR THE OUTCOME WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE BEEN A WORSE ONE. MY HUSBAND SPRINTED BACK WITH TWO PAIRS OF SCISSORS. THE BELT WAS TOO TIGHT AT THE WAIST TO GIVE ME ANY ROOM TO WORK WITH THE SCISSORS. THEN MY HUSBAND CUT THE SEATBELT FROM ABOVE JUST BELOW WHERE THE BELT ENTERED THE CEILING AND OUR GRANDSON WAS SUDDENLY FREED.
MY SON WAS STUCK IN THE DRIVER SIDE 3RD ROW SEAT BELT. WE WERE STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THE SEATBELT DID NOT GIVE OR TO RELEASE TO ALLOW US TO LOOSEN THE STRAP ACROSS HIS LAP. THE SEATBELT KEPT LOCKING AND TIGHTING ON HIS STOMACH. WE HAD TO CUT THE SEATBELT TO RELEASE HIM.
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON OCTOBER 21, 2017, WE WERE HEADING TO CABELAS AN OUTDOOR SPORTING GOODS STORE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY STOP SIGNS AND DID NOT NOTICE THE CAR COMING FROM THE LEFT OF ME. BY THE TIME I DID NOTICE I SLAMMED MY BREAKS BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE AIRBAGS FOR THIS VAN DID NOT DEPLOY BUT THE LIGHT INDICATOR WAS ON FOR AIRBAGS BEING DEPLOYED. ALSO, THE FRONT SEAT BELTS BECAME LOCKED AFTER THE COLLISION. I WAS LEFT WONDERING WHY MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE MY VAN HOME BUT SHOULD HAVE NOT DONE SO SINCE THE SEATS WERE LOCKED.
I WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION. MODERATE ACCIDENT, GOING APPROX 35 MPH HITTING ANOTHER CAR WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO SPIN THE CAR THAT I HIT. MY FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN OFF THE SCENE. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND HIT THE OTHER CAR WITH THE FRONT OF MY CAR IN HER PASSENGER DOOR. I WAS ON A CITY STREET.
FIVE SEAT-BELTS ARE FRAYING DESPITE NORMAL USE (USED IN SUBURBS). FOR ONE OF THE AFFECTED SEAT-BELTS, FRAYED SECTION RUBBED/SCRAPED AGAINST D-RING AND DEVELOPED A SLIT. HONDA DEALER STORE REMARKED USAGE OF CHILD SEAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS, THEREFORE IT WILL NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. WE USE A CAR SEAT MEETING FEDERAL CHILD RESTRAINT SAFETY STANDARD (AND IN THIS CASE, THE CAR SEAT WAS NOT EVEN RUBBING AGAINST THE SLIT SECTION). HONDA NORTH AMERICA STATES ANY DEFECT ON THE SEAT-MATERIAL IS NOT CONSIDERED PART OF SEAT-BELT FUNCTION, HENCE PRODUCT WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY. THE WARRANTY:"HONDA WILL, AT ITS OPTION, REPAIR OR REPLACE ANY HONDA SEAT BELT COMPONENT THAT FAILS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING NORMAL USE". TERM IS UP TO 15 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH NORMAL USE, MOSTLY DRIVEN IN A SMALL CITY WITH CHILDREN IN BACK SEAT(S). THIS SEAT-BELT ISSUE IS CONCERNING DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A RELATIVELY RECENTLY MANUFACTURED CAR, BUT ALSO, HONDA ODYSSEY IS PERCEIVED AS A SAFE FAMILY CAR. PARENTS SHOULD FEEL ENCOURAGED TO USE STANDARD CAR SEAT WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT SEAT BELT FRAYING/DAMAGED.
DRIVING ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY HEARD A LOUD "POP" THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THERE, WAS NO IMPACT TO VEHICLE, NO ROAD DEBRIS, NO SWERVING OR ROLLOVER. I WAS DRIVING AND THE BAGS SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED.

THE REAR MIDDLE SEAT BELT THAT WAS TETHERED FROM THE CEILING HAD SOMEHOW WRAPPED AROUND THE CHILD'S NECK, CAUSING THE CHILD TO STRANGLE. THE DRIVER HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO REMOVE IT FROM THE CHILD'S NECK. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE BELT COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED BECAUSE IT HAD TO BE UNLOCKED AND THE LOCK WAS IMPEDED BETWEEN THE SEATS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FARTHEST REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT TORE IN HALF WHEN PULLED DOWN TO BE USED. WHEN INSPECTED IT WAS NOTED THAT THE PLASTIC NEAR THE CEILING THAT THE BELT ENTERS AND RETRACTS INTO WAS JAGGED AND SHARP. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS IN THIS VEHICLE AND NO KNOWN DAMAGE TO THAT AREA OF PLASTIC. THE AREA THAT IS JAGGED IS ALSO LOCATED IN A POSITION THAT DAMAGE TO THE AREA WOULD BE HARD TO DO FROM AN EXTERNAL FORCE AND APPEARS TO BE MORE LIKELY FROM THE NORMAL USE OF THE SEAT BELT RUBBING OVER THE PLASTIC. THE PLASTIC AREA AROUND THE JAGGED AREA DOESN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS OF WEAR OR DAMAGE EITHER. *TR
