The car failed to start several times, and then it fell out of drive completely while I was driving down the street with my child in the car. Fortunately I was only on side streets where the speed limit was low because the car just stopped working about five times in one city block. I hate to think what would have happened if I was on a highway at higher speeds. We had the car towed to the Honda dealership closest to us. They handled about 7 different recalls on the van and didn’t at first identify any serious problem as it didn’t abruptly stop when they drove it around their block. However, when I stopped in and described the issue, they test drove it again. They couldn’t get it to start and then it stopped abruptly on them when they drove it a bit more. There is a recall that has to do with seizing up and not starting and stopping abruptly but my local folks say that this seems like a transmission issue and not the issue with the same symptoms that are listed in the existing recall. Could they be mistaken or could these two issues be related since this existing recall is so new that they haven’t alerted owners yet? They still have my car and say that it is not drivable.
My power tailgate control unit is fried due to a leak in rear driver side.
This vehicle decelerates or loses power while driving . This has happened 3x. Also vehicle is lag in accelerating from take off, my fear of getting t-boned if it stalls Most recent date below. Has been taken to dealer numerous times
Warning lights started being displayed stating that multiple vehicular functions were not working. (Vsa stability, emissions system, brake system, brake hold system, power steering problem) Upon inspection at the dealership I was told it was a fuel injector problem and it was not covered under the recall. The fuel injector is currently on back order and I have been waiting several weeks for a part. The estimate that was given to me was around $1200. I believe this should be covered by Honda
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact was notified that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contacts wife contacted the dealer to have the recall repaired. However, the dealer asked the contacts wife if the vehicle was having any issues and when the contacts wife stated no, the dealer told her she didn't have to worry about it. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. VIN Tool Confirms Recall Incomplete.
Have been receiving an error about rear sliding door for 2 months. Now the inside of the door is rubbing against outside of van when opened & has made the inside door panel loose.
For over a year, when ever I press on the gas to accelarate the car stalls and this is very dangerous as it could cause an accident. It is not related to being low on gas as it happens even the the tank if full. The most recent issue happened yesterday. I was on a stop sign, and when I pressed the gas to go, the car moved forward a bit and then it stalled, leaving me on the middle of the intersection about to get hit by upcoming traffic. I was able to press the gas a couple of time and get car moving, but I was about to get him. A few weeks ago, again I had a similar situation. I was at a red light, and when I pressed on the gas, my car stall and wouldnt move, causing everyone behind me to honk their horns. I once again then to press the gas a couple of time for car to move. In addition, a few weeks ago, I was yieling to enter a highway, and when I press the gass to speed up and enter it, the car once again stall and was about to get hit by upcoming traffic. The issue is not related to gas tank, as I just recently had that replace after it suddently rip. Not sure how that happen, maybe another think to consider looking into. When I advised the dealership of such, they said stalling is normal due to type of engine. There is nothing normal of putting your life at risk. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Front "camera"/sensor went out, this caused all of the errors to come up and ding repeatedly while driving at a high speed on the interstate. Honda says they won't cover however, this is a safety issue with lots of reports of the same issue in a quick Google search.
On multiple occasions when traveling at a low rate of speed when the accelerator is pushed there is no response for up to 2-3 seconds then the car suddenly accelerates forcefully because the gas pedal has been pushed to the floor with no response. It has mostly happened when we are making a left hand turn and have slowed. Due to the seconds of delay we have been almost t boned and are hesitant to make a left hand turn if there is any traffic because we don't know if the car will immediately accelerate or if it will hesitate. We are able to reproduce it to some extent by accelerating the car to about 5-7 mph, letting off the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. We took the car to the dealership and they reproduced it and contacted the Honda techline who told them it is normal. It has been scary for myself and my wife and does not feel normal for the car to have a complete delay in response and then over respond.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer had been notified about the recall but informed the contact that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer had been notified of the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact repeatedly pumped the accelerator pedal before the vehicle surged forward and resumed normal operation. No warning light was illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to a dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and test-driven; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was informed that because there was no warning light illuminated, the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) which was linked to the failure. The dealer was made aware of the issue and the contact was informed parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
Around November 2023 I took my 2019 Honda Odyssey to Glockner Honda in Portsmouth, Ohio about an issue with the engine. I was told by Andy Schmidt and his Honda-certified technicians that the problem is the same as the one that is coming out for a recall in January 2024. I parked my Odyssey until January and took it back to Glockner Honda expecting it to be a part of the recall. I have waited for 6 months for it to be included or for Honda to agree to repair the vehicle. I have been told on multiple occasions by certified technicians and management at Glockner Honda that this is a manufacturing defect and they do not understand why it is not part of the recall. The recall is the same year, made, model, and problem as I am experiencing. I finally got verbal confirmation (Honda refuses to put it in writing) that they will not cover the full cost of the repair. I provided an estimate of the repair to the manufacturing defect to them from Glockner Honda. I demand that they pay for this defect. Also, they refuse to provide any information or explanation as to why my particular 2019 Honda Odyssey is not part of the recall. Please make them pay for this defect in the manufacturing process.
The motor that raises and lowers the rear liftgate failed and has been repaired already at a Honda Dealership. The van is not even 5 years old yet and the motor failing caused the lift gate to droop after opening causing my wife and I to bang our heads on it if we weren't watching for it. The more important safety concern is if the liftgate lowers to a certain point, the motor causes it to bounce up and down slightly and then automatically close. My concern for the safety of my young children made me get it repaired promptly. The honda dealership did confirm that the motor failed and it caused strain on the right strut as well need it to be replaced as well. There were no warning lights on dash. This is a youtube link to someone else with the same van and year with the same problem. This is what my van was doing. My vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes with no warning. The “brake” light for the emergency braking system began flashing at the same time the car began a hard brake. It came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and I had absolutely no control over the vehicle. I was very fortunate that it didn’t cause a collision but it came very close. I don’t see how this is a safety feature, it’s incredibly dangerous. The only way to turn it off is to remember to turn it off every time you start the car. Absurd.
airbag system (SRS) problem
The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its ZF 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an EX-L with the ZF 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.
Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating. We have to continue to drive 45 mph with the car sounding terrible all the way home. Once home the vehicle somehow resets itself and all of the flashing lights turn off.
Transmission has completely died. We were traveling on vacation when this happened. Started with very rough gear shifting. Our safety was at risk because random warnings then came up on the screen such as cruise control not working, brake assist. Car would not drive normal. Check engine light never came on. The car was towed to the local honda dealership who confirmed it needs a new transmission. We just purchased this car 3 months ago. They inspected it before selling and stated everything was fine.
When I start the engine, I switch the gear from parking to drive mode and give it a gas, but the gas doesn't reach the engine the way it should, then after it starts running super fast even if I barely give it a gas, the timing belt is now making a cranking noise. Dealers told me it was an engine problem inside the engine. The dealer mechanic are even very surprised why this happened and after again I took it to other mechanics, and they told me the same thing and also they told me about the recall and after I've seen a recall on Honda Odysseys with different VINs, but my car has the same problem (NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-751). This issue is a manufacturer's issue and my car has 118,000 miles on it. I just bought it six months ago for $37,000 and it's out of warranty. I need help. All the mechanics suggested it has a manufacturing problem including the dealer mechanics, also they advise me to this page to report and get some help.
There has been no incident. And I hope there is not. But the forward camera that assists in the road departure mitigation, forward collision mitigation and lane keeping assist has failed. Also inoperative is the cruise control, auto dimming headlamps and the brake system light is on. I find it hard to believe that after some of the less critical recalls that have been sent out for this vehicle that they don’t address this very important safety system. The camera alone costs $800 and that doesn’t include the cost of installation and calibration. I have a family of six and we use this van extensively. But we cannot afford this repair and are forced to drive with all of these lights on in the instruments. We take extremely good care of our vehicles. It is serviced well and has been in no major accidents. Please help us get action for ourselves and others who are in danger
The Tailgate Control Module failed on three different occasion on my 2019 Honda Odyssey mini van causing the tailgate to fail to be opened by fob or manually. This was caused by water leaking through the roof rail where there was a failure by the manufacturer to properly seal the area between the roof and body.I have two of the failed TCMs in my possession. On 2 different occasions the tailgate flew opened as I was driving at approximately 55 mph.At that time the tailgate could not be closed entirely and caused my battery to run down entirely. The problem has been confirmed by the local Honda dealership and another independent service center.A warning and beeping noice came on as the first sign of the problem.I have photos of the crack and what was done to try to remediate the problem. This problem has been recognized and occurred to many other owners of 2018 - present day Honda Odyssey mini vans.
multiple random times lifting foot from brake at intersection car lunges then completely dies. Car is stuck in street and battery light is on. Battery needs to be jumped to get working, battery and alternator test fine, replaced battery with agm battery three months ago and same thing happened today. Luckily tire store was at the intersection and they were able to jump it to get it going, they tested everything and no issues, they had no idea why it would happen.
When stopped at an intersection, waiting to turn left, vehicle sometimes will not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. If I do a very light acceleration, then let go of the gas, then try to accelerate, it is as if the transmission is in 5 gear or something. After a 3-4 second lag, the vehicle will then seemingly find 1st gear, and will accelerate. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous if making a left turn and cars are speeding towards me. I push the gas pedal, but the car does not move, meanwhile cars are getting closer to me, and cars behind me are honking. I have taken the car to Honda dealer three times for this issue. Each time they do something to "fix" the problem, and each time, the problem persists.
Auto Engine Idle Stop function does not restart engine after stopping engine. This situation happens regularly. This causes a dangerous situation when the car does not restart when driving I n traffic. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership and they are unable to resolve.
Safelite replaced after market windshield in 2020 now I bought new ADS CAMERA. Honda was unable to program/(AIM-recalibrate). Took it to Safelite, they didn’t want to responsible for it.
I have a 2019 Odyssey Elite and the following lights come on: Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC); Auto high-beam problem (A); Road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Some say it is the battery, but I have yet to see a post where changing the battery fixed the problem. When the lights are off, all safety features (mitigation, adaptive cruise control, cruise control) work. I assume auto high beam and brakes system will work also. Forgot to add that when I turn the car off and back on, I have to press enter on the steering wheel a couple of times before the lights go off.
Van had srs code on from when bought by original owner. I bought van recently and tried to fix the issue I had the airbag replaced and the error went on a few days later. While looking into the issue I spoke to a few mechanic's who have both seen this issue with other vans with the same make and model. In those cases also it didnt help with replacing the airbags. There seems to be a real issue here but there isnt yet a recall.
Our 7 year old was sitting in her car seat when the seatbelt lost tension. Turns out the bolt, securing the belt, was never actually bolted in with the proper torque. The lock washer was as good as new, so if it was threaded at all it was certainly not enough to protect a family. As you can see in the picture, the lock washer was never engaged, this should not have been on the road.
Warning light turn on without any cause. No accident involve. Just happen overnight.
The defective part is the fuel pump it cause the vehicle to stall when operating, increasing the chance of a crash. Also the car won’t start. Took the car to the dealer and gave me an estimate.
The trunk lift gate can suddenly fail and slam down quickly, being a safety hazard. When the trunk opens, it will move up and down a few times, then it will beep three times and slam shut. It consistently happens when parked on an incline.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the automatic headlights warning light, the brake warning light, the adaptive cruise control warning light, the lane mitigation warning light, and collision mitigation warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the cause of the failure could be determined. The contact stated that the technician reset the warning lights; however, the failure recurred. The contact concerned that while driving the vehicle a failure might occur regarding the safety of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
Over the last three weeks, there were 3 incidents where the emergency braking system spiked the brakes when there was no reason. There was one incident where the lane departure spiked the brakes for no reason. Over the first 5 years owning the vehicle, this never happened. The first incident was going around a curve on a 2-lane road I travel at least twice a day. It sometimes beeps for cars in the other lane, but has never spiked the brakes until now. The car in the other lane was not over the line. There was a car behind us and they almost hit us due to the rapid braking. Incident 2 was on a straght road when there was a right lane closure with orange cones gradually blocking the lane. I started moving to the left lane well in advance and was most of the way in the lane when the brakes spiked. There was no oncoming traffic, but a car behind me had to brake hard to avoid hitting me. Incident 3 was similar to Incident 2, except there was a box in the road. With a straight road and no oncoming traffic, I was fully in the left lane, avoiding the box, when the brakes spiked. The 4th incident involved spiking the brakes with a lane departure warning. I was going around a curve that I travel at least twice a day. The road was clear and no traffic coming the other way. Going around the left curve in full control, the right lane departure warning sounded and spiked the brakes. The brakes had never applied before in a lane departure scenario. I took the van to the dealer and they made it sound normal, like four improper emergency braking incidents in 3 weeks was a regular occurrence. They tried to duplicate the issue and checked the computer for codes, but found nothing. This does not seem normal to me and is a safety issue that could cause an accident if the car spikes the brakes for no reason like this and someone is following closely, not expecting me to stop.
The front camera is malfunctioning creating the following warnings and preventing safety systems from working properly: 1. Lane Keeping Assist Problem 2. Collision Mitigation System Problem 3. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 4. Auto High-Beam Problem 5. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem In addition, the "Brake Systems" light is on. This issue not only prevents safety features from functioning, but may mask other issues since the "Brake systems" light remains on at all times. The vehicle has recently undergone the recall repair work for the MOST FAKRA Service Cables. No other mechanical issues were detected by the Honda dealership or an independent Honda certified mechanic.
The engine starts to stall. It’s scary. It slows down to 0 and when you step on the gas it doesn’t want to go. We bought this van last year and it’s done it since we bought it. I’ve read that Honda knows it’s a problem but there needs to be a recall before someone dies in an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that a message indicating the power liftgate failure was displayed, and 2-3 days later, the power liftgate failed to open as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that water intrusion in the power liftgate control module had caused the liftgate to fail to operate as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,700.
Over 20 times our van has breaked when it was not needed. This usually happens when going up a hill and turning, or when a car slows but not enough to need to break. In several instances we have almost been rear-ended due to the sudden breaking. We try to turn off the service, but it has to be turned off each time. With the amount of traffic we have in the area, this is very dangerous.
While moving at a very slow speed, 2-3 mph, then pressing the accelerator, the car hesitated to find the proper gar while the engine accelerated. When gear is found, car, suddenly jerks forward to catch up with engine speed. This throws passengers backward, jerking their necks. Local Honda dealers “ are unaware any problem exists.”
rear tailgate seal failure 2019 honda odyssey allowing water intrusion and corrosion of lift gate control module, per ft lauderdale honda dealer. Not a safety issue but a design defect per other honda owners.
The van was parked in the garage. I used the fob to open the sliding door on the drivers side. It stopped, got stuck. I pressed the button to open and close it in the vehicle and it started to move. And then I heard glass crunching. The door fell off the track and broke the window.
Water leaked through the roof causing the tailgate motor to fail. There are separations in the body seams above the tailgate. The vehicle has not been an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that upon depressing the accelerator pedal down to the floorboard, the vehicle lurched forward while shifting into gear. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated that upon depressing the accelerator pedal down to the floorboard, the vehicle lurched forward while shifting into gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where it was determined that the failure was related to the transmission. The vehicle was then taken to a transmission specialist, where a transmission flush was performed; however, the failure persisted. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. An unknown local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving, infotainment screen went black and audio died. Restarting car did not solve the problem. Dealer pulled and reinstalled a fuse which "fixed" the problem but said it was a known problem and could recur. It has been several years since it has happened but I figured I'd report it since some car settings are only available through the infotainment system.
Passenger sliding door automatically closes intermittently while opening has been an ongoing issue at one point closed on my youngest daughters leg smashing between door and door jam. Understanding it opening while closing because something was in its path but not closing during the point operation. This is been reported to the dealership many times also gave them a video of it happening, told if we don’t see it we can’t fix it.
Power lift gate control module has shorted out due to water leak somewhere on my van. Board has visible water damage. Tailgate won’t open or shut at all. Has to be done manually from inside the vehicle through trim opening on rear tailgate.
After getting vehicle serviced twice in the past 6 months for 2 different recalls, the alarm has been randomly going off in the middle of night. Then today when trying to start the vehicle the engine clicked nonstop and all the dashboard lights and headlights flickered uncontrollably. When researching this issue it sounds like its an internal failure within the keyless access/TPMS control unit, which also appears to be a frequent issue with this vehicle. If this is such a frequent issue with so many cards how is this not a recall?
The multipurpose camera in the front windshield has failed, causing the adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and correction, forward collision to fail. Even the non-ACC cruise control is locked out due to the failed camera. Honda will charge ~ $1800 to replace, and I can’t afford that. Problem confirmed by Ian’s of Broken Arrow. They confirmed it was the camera and not the radar unit. The failure of the camera causes a host of persistent dashboard warnings, but none preceded the failure.
My Idle Stop feature on the car has become very unreliable. After the car enters the stop state, waking up the car has the following difficulties: Almost regularly, the start up process causes the car's audio and electrical to glitch and will put a warning on the dashboard that the collision mitigation system has been engaged. A few times now, the car has simply not woken up from the idle stop state, and the console will tell me to put the car in park to restart, but the shifter won't do anything. I've had to open the driver's side door to reset the electronics, close the door, and then hold the brake and push the start/stop button to get the car to restart.
THE DOOR OF MY 2019 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS MALFUNCTIONED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. UPON OPENING THE DOOR, IT IMMEDIATELY CLOSES WHEN ON AN INCLINE OR DECLINE AND WILL NOT STOP EVEN WHEN A CHILD IS IN THE WAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS I OFTEN PICK MY CHILDREN UP FROM SCHOOL OR CAMP ON A SLIGHT HILL AND WHEN THE TEACHER/COUNSELOR PUTS THEM IN THE CAR, THE DOOR CLOSES ON MY CHILD. I ALSO HAVE DIFFICULTY CLOSING THE DOOR WHEN ON ANY TYPE OF HILL. I HAVE SEVERAL VIDEOS OF THE ISSUE. HONDA SAID THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND THAT THE SLIDING DOOR WAS ONLY DESIGNED TO WORK ON FLAT SURFACES, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.
On 7/24/2023, my 2019 Honda Odyssey hesitated on start but did eventually start after a 5- second delay. After 6 miles on road, the car began to hesitate, choked, decelerate on its own even with foot on gas petal, and finally won't move an inch. The following warning lights were triggered: Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Emissions System Problem, Power Steering System Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, and also To Start Engine: Brake + Push. The 2019 Honda Odyssey was towed to the Honda Dealer near me. They kept the car overnight and it stalled and died on them too. The dealer said the fuel pump needs to be replaced. I collected my memory and recall the car has experienced jerky moments at times lately. This strike me as a prematurely dead fuel pump as fuel pumps are designed to last at least 100,000 miles of the life of the car. I found out that there was a fuel pump recall in 2021 but I did not receive any notification. With a prematurely dead fuel pump and my experience, I believe this car should be part of the recall as the defect may be more widespread, affecting more than just what the Honda manufacturer has recalled. Furthermore, this is my third Honda, but this has brought many problems causing me to have called AAA 4-5 times so far and towed twice in the last couple of years.
