MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL JUST RELEASED BY ISUZU AND HONDA. THEY'VE ONLY RECALLED THE "LOWER LINK BRACKET" BUT IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS IT IS THE CONSENSUS THAT THIS IS A FRAME ISSUE, WHICH SHOULD BE RECALLED. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF WAITING TO HEAR FROM HONDA MITIGATION ABOUT THE NEXT STEP AS THEY HAVE DEEMED MY VEHICLE NOT REPAIRABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CRACKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR FRAME HAD RUSTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL 10V436000 (SUSPENSION:REAR) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 89,722. UPDATED 01/03/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT NOTICED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 10V436000 (SUSPENSION:REAR) AND WAS OFFERED A BUY BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE CONTACT DECLINED. THE CONTACT ASKED THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BUT THE MANUFACTURER DID RESPOND, BUT REFUSED BECAUSE OF THE COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE VEHICLES REAR END BEGAN TO FISH TALE. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. HE HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND HE DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING OUT OF PLACE. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED WITH RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
2001 HONDA PASSPORT 4 DR 4WD EXL VIN#[XXX] ORIGINAL OWNER - PURCHASED FROM DANBURY FAIR HONDA, DANBURY, CT ON 1/10/2001 METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED - ALL SERVICE RECORDS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR(EXCL FRAME) EXCELLENT CONDITION CURRENT MILEAGE +/- 100,000 DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT: WHILE DRIVING MY HONDA PASSPORT ON SEPT. 11, 2010 I WAS TURNING ONTO A SIDE ST WHEN WITHOUT WARNING I HEARD A NOISE COME FROM WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO "FLOAT" OR SWAY OUT OF MY CTRL. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MY FIANCE I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO REST ON THE SHOULDER OF THE RD. THE FRAME WAS SO SEVERELY RUSTED OUT THAT IT COULDN'T BE TOWED IN THE TRADITIONAL MANNER AND WAS REMOVED ON A FLATBED. THIS IS A CRITICAL AND SEVERE DEFECT THAT IN OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS AND FATAL. I WAS TOLD BY 3 HIGHLY REGARDED MECHANICS THAT IF IT HAD IT HAPPENED THE DAY BEFORE WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE WE WOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE LIVED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEFECT WOULD LIKELY HAVE CAUSE A ROLLOVER OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED OTHER ACCIDENTS AND/OR FATALITIES. THIS DEFECT IS A SILENT KILLER WAITING TO HAPPEN. ALL THESE CARS APPEAR TO BE IN MINT CONDITION. A REASONABLE PERSON WOULD EXPECT SOME COSMETIC SIGN IN THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR TO REFLECT SUCH A SIGNIFICANT DEGREE OF DETERIORATION IF IT WAS "NORMAL OR EXPECTED" WEAR AND TEAR. IT WAS NOT NORMAL AND THERE ARE NO WARNING SIGNS OF THE IMPENDING DANGER. I TAKE EXCELLENT CAR OF MY VEHICLES AND HAVE ALWAYS GARAGED THEM. I AM SHOCKED AND CONCERNED THAT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE YET STILL NO ONE IS BEING WARNED OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER OR ADVISED TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED. I URGE YOU TO CONSIDER OUR COMPLAINTS AND ISSUE A RECALL. THE LUCKY ONES HAVE A USELESS PASSPORT OR RODEO WITH A FRAME RUSTED BEYOND RECOGNITION AND NO RESALE VALUE. THE OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME HAD ROTTED. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS AND COULD ONLY PERFORM REPAIRS THAT WERE AUTHORIZED BY NHTSA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
9/11/10 WHILE DRIVING 2001 HONDA PASSPORT, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND SIMULTANEOUSLY I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED ON A FLATBED DUE TO EXTENSIVE FRAME ROT. THE HONDA DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS SO BADLY CORRODED THERE WAS NO PLACE ON THE FRAME THAT THEY COULD ATTACH THE LOWER LINK BRACKET BACK ONTO THE VEHICLE. THE LOUD NOISE WAS THE LOWER LINK BRACKET BREAKING LOOSE FROM THE FRAME BECAUSE THE FRAME ROTTED THROUGH. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ROAD SAFE AND NEEDED A FRAME REPLACEMENT. SINCE AN EA HAD BEEN OPENED HONDA SUGGESTED I GO TO A GARAGE THAT CAN BYPASS THE CORROSION AND RIG SOMETHING UP THAT WOULD ALLOW A TEMPORARY FIX UNTIL A RECALL WAS ISSUED. I DID THE REPAIR AT A COST OF $1,200.00, BUT IT WAS NOT GUARANTEED OR ROAD SAFE FOR ANYTHING BUT SIDE ROADS AROUND TOWN. LATER A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE LOWER LINK BRACKETS. MY LOWER LINK BRACKETS ARE NOT DEFECTIVE THEY ARE FINE AND COMPLETELY INTACT. THE PROBLEM IS MY ENTIRE FRAME IS CORRODED THROUGH ALL LAYERS AND IS RIDDLED WITH HOLES. THE BRACKET CANNOT BE ATTACHED BECAUSE YOU CANNOT WELD A BRACKET ONTO RUST AND HOLES. FROM THE DATE OF THE RECALL BOTH HONDA OF TORRINGTON AND THE INDEPENDENT GARAGE THAT DID THE TEMPORARY REPAIR SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ROAD SAFE , FELL WELL OUTSIDE THE PARAMETERS OF THE WORST STAGE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT MY CASE WOULD BE REFERRED TO HONDA TO NEGOTIATE A SETTLEMENT. AFTER MONTHS OF CALLS TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE STATUS I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE DOWN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WE REQUESTED TO BE PRESENT AND DID NOT AUTHORIZE REPAIRS UNLESS WE WERE. WE CALLED THE DEALER TO ASK WHEN THEY WOULD BE CALLING US DOWN. THEY SAID TO ARRIVE IN ONE HALF HOUR BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN THEY WOULD BE BRING THE VEHICLE IN. WHEN WE ARRIVED 20 MINUTES LATER, WE WERE TOLD A STAGE 2 REPAIR WAS ALREADY DONE PER THE TECH-LINE. WHICH CONSISTED OF SPRAYING WAX OVER AN UNSAFE FRAME. THEY REFUSED TO PUT ON OUR INVOICE THAT IT WAS ROAD SAFE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT ON SEPT 5, 2010 VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO MY STEERING VEERING TO LEFT OF CENTER. I WAS DRIVING 55MPH AND THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE SO I STOPPED GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND INSPECTED TIRES. I HAD NO FLATS. I THEN THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I HAD BELTS IN THE TIRE SEPARATE SO I CONTINUED ON MY ROUTE TO DESTINATION AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 25-35MPH. SAME THING VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO LEFT AND WHEN I MADE RIGHT TURN AND SLOWED DOWN TO GET OFF ROAD I HEARD SOME NOISE LIKE SOMETHING RUBBING AGAINST RIGHT REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. I GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE STABILIZER BAR WAS DETACHED DUE TO CORROSION. I WAS A FEW MILES FROM HOME AND DROVE WITH MY BLINKERS ON AND ON THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER OF ROAD AT 5-10MPH. AFTER RESEARCHING ON INTERNET, I SEE THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM AND THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT IT. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT WITH APPROXIMATELY 125,000 MILES. BODY IS IN GREAT SHAPE BUT WHEN LOOKING UNDERNEATH AT FRAME IT IS SEVERELY RUSTED. *TR
2001 HONDA PASSPORT - RUSTED FRAME. I DETECTED ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF RUST TO THE FRAME OF MY VEHICLE WHEN I WAS GOING TO INSTALL A REESE TRAILER HITCH. SEVERAL HOLES WERE PRESENT IN THE FRAME, COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. MORE HOLES CAN EASILY BE PUSHED THROUGH WITH MY FINGER. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FRAME AND SUBSEQUENTLY LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. INCIDENTALLY, I COULD NOT INSTALL THE HITCH DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST IN THE FRAME. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT 4X4 V6 WITH 73,000 MILES. THE FRAME BROKE RIGHT WHERE THE BRACKET FOR ONE OF THE ARMS IN THE REAR SUSPENSION CONNECTS. THIS CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL. *TR
WE DRIVE A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. AS I WAS COMING HOME WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN, MY CAR STARTING TO WANDER TO ONE SIDE, FORTUNATELY I WAS LESS THAN A HALF MILE FROM HOME. I THEN HEARD A TERRIBLE SOUND LIKE SCRAPING. MY HUSBAND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND REAR DRIVER SIDE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FALLING APART. THE PASSENGER SIDE IS IN THE SAME CONDITION. WE SAW A NEWS REPORT AND IT DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED TO US. I AM APPALLED THAT OUR LIVES WERE IN DANGER HAD I BEEN GOING ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARYLAND. I MOVED TO PA IN 2009. PA INSPECTION WAS CONDUCTED IN 10/09. THE CAR PASSED INSPECTION. VERY FEW MILES DRIVEN DURING 2009/2010. A HONDA DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE STATION IN PA INSPECTED THE CAR'S FRAME TODAY (7/22/10). THEIR REPORT IS: "INSPECTED FRAME. RUST THROUGH ON LT REAR FAME RAIL BOTTOM, METAL SCALING ON BOTH REAR FRAME RAILS. NO VISIBLE HOLE AT RADIUS RODS. CUSTOMER TO MONITOR SITUATION. VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS PA STATE INSPECTION. PROBABLE RUST THROUGH AT RT REAR ARM." WE WILL NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR SINCE IT IS NOT SAFE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIFT GEARS, SHAKE AND VIBRATE FROM ONE SIDE TO ANOTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE INSPECTED. THE REAR FRAME RAIL WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,495.
TOOK HONDA PASSPORT 2001 FOR INSPECTION AND FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED. IT IS BECOMING A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY. GETTING RID OF VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE CHANGING THE BRAKES THE FRAME WAS COVERED WITH AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THE FRAME COULD HAVE BROKEN AND CAUSED A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 174,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE HAD DETERIORATED BEYOND REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE REAR SUSPENSION TRAILING LINK MOUNT BROKE OFF OF THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THEN TOWED TO HIS HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SINCE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THAT TYPE OF FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE SHOULD NOT TOW THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WILL NOT BE REPAIRED. HE THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT SPECIALIZED IN FRAME REPAIRS BUT IT WOULD COST HIM OVER A $1000 TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 92,000.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE REAR BEGAN VEERING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED AND RUSTED. IN ADDITION, THE MAIN BEAM OF THE FRAME HAD COMPLETELY FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO REMOVE CHUNKS OF CORRODED METAL FROM THE FRAME BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,000. 2001 HONDA PASSPORT USED OIL 1 QT. AND HALF EVERY TWO WEEKS, BOUGHT 2001 USED ABOUT 1/2 A QT. BETWEEN OIL CHANGE AT FIRS. AT THIS POINT IT USED MORE DURING THE YEARS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE PULLING OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE FRONT AXLE BEGAN RUBBING AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME HAD RUSTED AND BEGAN CORRODING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE VEHICLES AGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
I WAS DRIVING THIS MORNING WHEN THE LEFT REAR TENSION BAR SNAPPED AWAY FROM THE FRAME OF MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A GARAGE AND INSPECTED BY A TRUSTED FRIEND, HE HAS JUST INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER IN DRIVABLE CONDITION, AS THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME FRACTURED DOWN THE CENTER. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CONSULTED WITH AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE FRAME REPAIR WOULD ONLY LAST FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO YEARS BEFORE THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,554 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,529.
WHILE STEPPING ON BRAKE, VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT CONTROL. BRAKE PEDAL WAS PULSATING. AVOIDED OTHER VEHICLES BY STEERING OFF ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT WHEN IT STARTED JERKING TO ONE SIDE AFTER LETTING OFF THE GAS,BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY,LIKE WIND HAD HIT THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN. THIS WENT ON FOR A COUPLE DAYS,AND WHEN I WAS GOING AROUND A TURN,I HEARD A LOUD NOISE,LIKE SOMETHING BREAKING AND GRINDING,AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHIMMY ALL OVER THE ROAD. WHEN I HAD IT LOOKED AT,I WAS TOLD ITS UNFIXABLE BECAUSE THERE IS FRAME ROT WHERE THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK COMPLETELY ROTTED OFF THE FRAME AND THE A-ARM ALSO COMPLETELY ROTTED OFF. THERE ARE SWISS-CHEESE LIKE HOLES ALL THROUGH THE FRAME. IT IS NOW UNDRIVEABLE. ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND A POSSIBLE RECALL. I VERY STRONGLY AGREE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I WAS VERY LUCK Y THAT WE WERE ONLY GOING ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED,OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS CRASH. I WAS DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT 2-LANE STATE ROUTE. WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTING 4-LANE HIGHWAY, I HEARD A SMALL NOISE IN THE REAR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER CROSSING THE INTERSECTION, I EXPERIENCE ENTIRE LOSS OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I SWERVED FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN AND WAS SURE THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO ROLL OVER ON ITS SIDE. AFTER SLOWING TO A STOP, I WAS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A SMALL TURN-AROUND FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE ANY FURTHER AND CALLED FOR A TOW. THE TOW-DRIVER INDICATED THAT HE SAW THE PROBLEM AND TOOK ME TO THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. HE THEN SHOWED ME THE REAR LINK BAR HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE FRAME. IT APPEARED IT HAD RUSTED AWAY FROM THE FRAME. WE THEN LOOKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO SEE THAT IT WAS ALSO RUSTED VERY BADLY WAS ALSO READY TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE FRAME. WHEN MY LIFE FLASHED BEFORE MY EYES, ALL I COULD DO WAS PRAY AND BE THANKFUL THAT MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME AND THAT MY NEWLY LICENSED 17 YEAR OLD WAS NOT DRIVING AT THE TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V436000- SUSPENSION: REAR) WHICH WOULD ONLY COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRACKETS BUT NOT THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 100,000.

THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE CORROSION AND SENT PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE CORROSION TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER IF ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WOULD BE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER RESPONDED. THE CONTACT REFUSED UNLESS A LETTER WAS PROVIDED STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

THE FRAME OF 2001 HONDA PASSPORT/ISUZU RODEO COMPLETELY RUSTED. VEHICLE IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY 64K MILES. MECHANIC FOUND STRESS POINTS ON TRAILING ARM THAT CONNECTS TO THE REAR AXLE ON DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE REAR AXLE COULD BREAK IF CAR HIT A POT HOLE OR IF THE CAR WAS STOPPED TOO SUDDENLY. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
I OWN A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT . I JUST LEARNED FROM A MECHANIC AND ALSO CONFIRMED WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP ( CENTURY MOTORS HONDA, CINCINNATI, OHIO) THAT THERE IS SEVERE CORROSION ON THE FRAME ON DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE FRAME AND OTHER AREAS ARE SHOWING SIGNS BUT ARE NOT CORRODED THROUGH YET. I WAS TOLD BY THEM THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOOK A PICTURE AND SENT IT TO HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY REFUSE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN OHIO SO IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY SALT WATER ECT... I ALSO DID NOT LEARN UNTIL NOW THAT MY PASSPORT WAS MADE BY ISUZU AND NOT HONDA. I PURCHASED IT NEW FROM A HONDA DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT REPAIR ON THE FRAME IS NOT ADVISABLE, DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES AND THE FACT THERE ARE OTHER AREAS ON THE FRAME THAT MAY RUST COMPLETELY IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT DOWN RT. 51 I HEARD A VERY LOUD ,CRUNCHING NOISE UNDER MY CAR. SUDDENLY I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. TERRIFIED, AND AFTER WEAVING BACK AND FORTH ON THE ROAD AMONG OTHER TRAFFIC, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. IT HAD TO BE TOWED ON A FLATBED TRUCK. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR WAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT AND THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN A CONTROL ARM TOTALLY RUST OFF A CAR. MY CAR HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2001. THE COLLISION CENTER THAT IT WAS TOWED TO TRIED TO WELD THE FRAME, BUT, THERE IS STILL MAJOR RUST DAMAGE UNDER THE CAR. I NOTIFIED MY HONDA DEALER OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE IT WAS AN ISUZU PRODUCT HONDA HELD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE GARAGE DUE TO BRAKE PROBLEMS AND WAS TOLD THAT MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT FRAME IS SO ROTTED OUT THAT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE PASSED THE LAST INSPECTION AND WILL DEFINITELY NOT PASS FURTHER INSPECTIONS AND SHOULD BE GOTTEN RID OF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HE THEN SPECULATED THAT THE HOLES IN THE FRAME WOULD EVENTUALLY CAUSED THE FRAME TO FRACTURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT SINCE THERE WERE NO RECALLS, IT WOULD COST $5000.00 TO REPAIR THE FRAME. THE FRAME CANNOT BE WIELDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 150000.

I HAVE A 2001 HONDA PASSPORT AND THE REAR OF THE FRAME COMPLETELY ROTTED AND THE VEHICLE IS NOW USELESS. I WAS DRIVING TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR MOMENTARILY SO I PULLED OVER. I THOUGHT IT WAS A TIE ROD AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MILES AN HOUR AND DROPPED MY VEHICLE OFF AT THE GARAGE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME ROTTED AN DTHEY WERE SURPRISED MY REAR AXLE WAS STILL ATTACHED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BASICALLY STAYING ATTACHED BECAUSE OF ABOUT 1 INCH OF GOOD STEEL AND MY GAS TANK. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAVE SEEN A LOT O FTHESE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ISUZU RODEOS AND HONDA PASSPORTS. IS ANYTHING GOING TO BE DONE. ONE YEAR LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,339 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,842.

I HAD TAKEN MY 2001 HONDA PASSPORT (ISUZU RODEO) IN TO THE SERVICE STATION FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION STICKER. WHEN THE MECHANIC WAS GETTING READY TO PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT, HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITH THE ROTTED FRAME. THE LEFT REAR SECTION OF FRAME IS ROTTED INVOLVING THE SUSPENSION, TRAIL ARM BRACKET (SUSPENSION LINK), BODY MOUNT BRACKET AND REAR SUSPENSION. HE SAID IT WAS SO BAD THAT HE WOULD NOT EVEN PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT FOR FEAR THE FRAME WOULD BREAK OFF. A 2 - 3 FOOT SECTION OF THE FRAME NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT WE CAN NOT FIND ONE AT ANY SALVAGE YARDS, ALL THE ONES WE HAVE CONTACTED DO HAVE FRAMES FOR THE VEHICLE BUT THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE ONE I HAVE JUST DESCRIBED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED AND I AM STUCK MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE. *TR
2001 HONDA PASSPORT. REAR TRAILING LINKAGE RUSTED AWAY FROM FRAME. RECEIVED RECALL A YEAR LATER FROM HONDA. TRUCK IS NOW AT A WELDER GETTING THE REAR FRAME RAILS PATCHED DUE TO RUSTING. ITS NOT ONLY THE FRAME RAILS THAT ARE RUSTING AWAY. MILEAGE ON VEHICLE IS 125000. I HAVE NOTICED THE ENTIRE FRAME FROM FRONT TO BACK RUSTING. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. CAN AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. MY EXPERIENCE WAS WITH THE REAR TRAILING LINKAGE. WAS DOING 45 MPH DOWN A HIGHWAY, HIT A BUMP, LINKAGE BROKE AWAY FROM THE FRAME.. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THE DEALER TO SEE WHO WILL PAY FOR THE TOWING OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.

THE FRAME COMPLETELY GAVE WAY ON BOTH SIDES ON THE BACK. THERE IS NOTHING HOLDING THE TOP OF THE VEHICLE TOGETHER. WELL CALLED DEALER AND HONDA MOTOR CORP. BOTH SAID THEY OFFERED A WARRANTY, 5 YEARS. I GUESS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT. EVERYBODY I HAVE SPOKE WITH INCLUDING THE DEALER, SAID I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR WHY THIS HAPPENED. MY VEHICLE LOOKS GREAT THOUGH. I JUST CAN'T DRIVE IT. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT CAN BE FIXED THEY SAID TO TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP. I PAID ALMOST 30,000 FOR THIS SUV AND NOW IT HIT THE 7 YEAR MARK AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT BECAUSE THE FRAME ROTTED APART. *TR

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS HESITANT TO TOW THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
